As of 18th January 2011 The Random Legacy Challenge - A Late Night Spin Off's new home will be here: http://randomlegacychallenge.blogspot.com/
It has become increasingly obvious to me that one man cannot possibly hope to keep this challenge updated by myself, so mimi250 calisims,CinderEmma and NutsAndDolts have kindly agreed to be co-admin's with me in keeping updates coming in.
This thread will still be the place to post suggestions and your stories (blogspot isn't good for that) although comments are also welcomed on the blog itself.
Re-read the challenge rules, as they have been updated with most of the great suggestions that have been posted here. and make sure that you check out the new "Optional Rules" section underneath the Main Rules.
I would like to thank everyone who has born with me while I have been probably the worst challenge admin in history in terms of updates, and hope to continue to read your great stories and suggestions.
Edit:
Thank you again,
Martin

2 questions about the 5 star celebrity goal.
1) Is it for all the family or only for the heir?
2).. And moreover, after 2 or 3 generations in town, it's difficult (or impossible) to find enough celebrities to reach the highest stars levels (thanks to the awful EA storyprogression options!! ). To avoid people failing the challenge because of this issue, I think you could allow people to introduce celebrities from other neighboroods or from the exchange (for instance) under a limit you'll choose... It will allow the neighborood to keep a limit of celebrities, which are very useful to reach the 5star level (otherwise it's only by opportunities, and it's awfully long)...
I am testing bridgeport since 3 generations and I've introduced new people in town. Not only I have a sufficient number of celebrities now, but my clubs are always full of people. A way to avoid the game being too boring..
Anyway, I think I'll frequently introduce new people in town in this challenge, even if it's not allowed at all.. in bridgeport, my first generation was elder and the whole town too.. so only elders in dance clubs, lounges and bars (and a few young vampires).. very annoying. When they all died, there was almost anybody in town, except of a few awful townies created by the game and who were totally unfitted with my neighborood..
So that is a issue I wanted to discuss.. I've already ruled my new random legacy and I'll have to start with a single parent/ 2 kids/ criminal career (evil)/ LTW and multicultural (to cross with vampires will be fun  ). I'll start as soon as I'll finish to test bands and gigs with my LN family (third generation, YA)

I got: Adoptive couple, 3 children. Primary Income of Law Enforcement (Super Spy) and a secondary income of Author. Gen. Goal: 5 star celeb (is this for all or heir?). more fun: Random, which I don't quite understand either :S

Two things I noticed during rolling:
C1 states roll between 1 and 13 however there are 16 jobs listed;
C2 states roll between 1 and 10 where there are 12 options listed (9 and 10 are numbered twice)
My founding generation (1) rolled:
Adoptive couple with 1 child
Stylist and Author
Fulfilled and Hoarder

Nickey: This challenge is basically the old Random Legacy with a few new rules. A couple of the new rules are for LN, and a couple are just general. So you can play the old challenge, or play this one, and if you roll a LN specific rule (like being a celebrity) reroll until you get something not LN specific.
severedsolo: Yay, I'm glad you posted your new rules. Lately I've been working on tweaking Barnacle Bay, adding some LN venues and apts and such. When I've got that together I'll pick up my legacy again. I'm going to move a clone of my last legacy heir and start fresh. He had rolled Couple, one child, Architect primary, no income secondary, Fulfilled and Random. I'm in the same position as mimi, my PC limitations are making me play with EA story progression, so we are going to need rules to allow for hands on neighborhood management to maintain celebrity populations and whatnot.

I must admit, I only playtested the 5 star celebrity for 1 Generation, thanks for bringing that to my attention Mimi, especially as Twallans SP is freezing celebrity statuses at the moment (last I heard)
Ok, you can introduce Celebrities to your town, if you want, but noone else. I wont put a hard coded limit on the number, as I havent tested it yet. Dont abuse it though use no more than you need.
Its just the heir who needs to obtain 5-Star. Sorry, didn't make that very clear.
is hiring a bartender considered as "A steady flow of drinks" if I ever get the party to remember goal & can a Busker play for tips in the subways?
Yes and Yes, but Bartenders cant be hired if you have "No Strangers"
Originally, I was going to make "Band" its own career, but the Bands seem to be buggy with LN and its hit or miss whether you actually get a gig. Plus, the "Band" self employed career includes Tips anyway.
Two things I noticed during rolling: [snip]
My bad, I did a copy and paste on Tiggers Rules then added my own, must have forgotten to change the numbers. Not quite sure what happened with C2, I think I was tired when I did that.... *doh* Thanks.
Can I play this without late night?
Of course you can. At the moment though, the only change is to Multi Cultural, and the minor clarification changes. Just reroll for anything that is impossible due to EP missing.

I've had the idea to roll the gender of my heir for each generation (roll a dice between 1 (a man) and 2 ( a woman)) and I think it could be a good idea to add it to the new rules as it seems to give more interest to the challenge.. we know that we can influence the gender by eating 10 apples or 10 watermelons... So, a generation with a single father of 5 kids can be really more challenging than one with a single mother of 5 kids (in my opinion, for other people it may be the contrary)..
Calisims, I am happy to know you'll continue your challenge at Barnacle bay  .. I can't wait to read your blog again. I am agree with you about SP (anyway, with LN, I tried Twallan's updated SP and it crashs my game, so I can't use it permanently).. If we want to manage with EA SP, we'll have to introduce new people regularly.. Thank you severesolo for allowing us to do it.. :luff:
About WA, I think I'll add two community lots I've found in the exchange to allow my sims to learn martial arts or nectar making. I've read many times that travels in WA locations causes bugs and gigs in our neighboroods.. It seems to be worst with every new EP. So I don"t want to take the risk to travel any more, unless I have an adventurer sim in the challenge. So, it'll be the only thing I won't follow in the new rules

Funny you should say that. I have been playing with a similar rule myself.
What im doing, is I'm rolling for the number of children, and then rolling between 1 and however many children they are meant to have. (for instance if I roll 3 kids I roll 1-3)
Whatever number comes up is the number child that is my heir. (so if I rolled a 2, the 2nd born would be heir) A caveat of this is that I am not aloud to influence the gender, so whatever gender the child is born as, thats what I get whether I like it or not.
I was considering putting it into my updated rules, but thought that it would be a little restrictive.

I do similar things to add more fun. Like I always randomize traits. I pick mates based on whomever they have the best relationship with and happens to be single whenever I decided I'm ready for a new addition to the household.
Also, I've noticed -- and it may just be a coincidence, but I don't think so cuz it happens EVERY time -- The gender of the baby is always the same gender as the sim selected when I try for baby. I used to make sure I had a male first to be heir, but now I make it so whoever has the wish to woohoo is the one selected.
I guess when I adopt I'll do a roll for gender from now on. I like your idea about picking an heir, I may do that from now on.

I like your heir number roll rule, severed. But I agree some might find that too restrictive. Maybe you could add a set of optional rules people can choose to use if they want, but they don't have to feel like it's required. I love hearing people's suggestions for new ways to randomize the challenge and having more options.
Nickey, I'm sad I had to give up my last legacy, too. The error 12s I was getting made it so I could barely get 10 minutes of play before an error would occur. So, now that I'm playing with EA SP again, I hope I can keep a legacy going. And I'll be continuing from almost where I left off, since I'm moving my last heir to Barnacle Bay to start over. I cloned him as a teen and make him YA when I move him, so there will be some empty time between my last blog update and the start of the new, but it's better than nothing. I hope, lol.
And yay, great deal on LN. I love having night clubs again, I missed those from TS2.

That sounds great. I get very attached to my sims, and often move non-heirs to the bin to play in a different neighborhood when my legacy family is frustrating me and I need a break. I haven't had a chance to play sims much lately with finals coming up.
I've not had any problems with my sims games at all, even after installing updates. I used to. So I did two different things, i'm not sure which one worked or if it was a combination of both. I made and play from an administrative log in account -- not sure quite what that means-- (found the info on how to do that online) and I don't use the launcher to open sims.

This is the farthest I've ever gotten in a legacy. It's so much fun, and thanks to the rolls I don't get unbelievably bored. I'm at Gen 4, who are about to adopt Gen 5.
I did a fun thing for this Gen - I couldn't decide which of the two boys would be heir, they were both so fabulous, that I got them to level three painting skill and made them, on two side by side easels, starting at the same time, paint a small painting. Best painting wins!
So now my eldest, the gen 4 heir, has just hit young adult and moved in with his boyfriend now husband and the loser was booted out to live with his two potential spouses - I made him bi, he had a girlfriend and a boyfriend when he aged up - I wonder how storyprog will set him up.

One thing I'm a little confused about... I rolled:
2) Random Click the random button every time you're asked to pick traits. This applies to the heir in the current generation. For example, when generation 1 has their first child, they roll the rules for generation 2. Random comes up as one of those rules, so for this child and all of their siblings their traits must be randomized. But if that rule doesn't come up for generation 3, the children of the generation 2 heir don't need to be randomized. You may choose LTWs for the sims.
I made my first generation sims, and randomize their traits. was this necessary? Do I have to randomize their kid or no?

If you roll random for your founder generation, then I would think only the founding couple would need to be randomised, not their kids.

Just randomise the founder(s). I had a similar situation come up with "Runs in the Family" when I first started playing and Tigger said to just make the founders have the trait.
Im on Generation 9 of my legacy now, I'm still playing with my cooked up house rules from the old challenge, but once Generation 10 arrive I'll start with the new ones on here.
On another note: I'm opening the field to suggestions for new rolls, specifically Generation Goals and Misc. Fun.
Ooh, and I have added a roll to "Generation Goals" - Death Eater, its number 11 so check it out :)

That's forbidden. Basically anything that's listed as an income source in the possible career rolls is forbidden to those who haven't rolled that career. So, because fishing and writing are both possible careers, only Sims who roll those careers can make money from them.
Outside of your rolled career, the only way to make more money is doing opportunities that come up, and buying venues around town.

So, I started (or restarted, lol) my challenge in Barnacle Bay.
I made a clone of the last heir of my old legacy in SV, Risk McDermott, and I'm using his generation roll to start out. Couple, one child, primary income as architect, no income for the spouse. Generation goal is fulfilled and misc fun is random.
I kept the traits Risk got with each age up (rolled randomly for his re-created character, Computer Whiz, Friendly, Photographer's Eye, Light Sleeper and Family Oriented. His :TW is Visionary (max painting and photography)
His wife Zoe rolled Angler, Good Sense of Humor, Light Sleeper, Shy and Vegetarian. Her LTW is Renaissance Sim (max 3 skills - she's going for Fishing, Repair and Gardening)
I haven't yet got enough to start a blog with, but here are a few quick pics.
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n145/yangthecat/Risk%20Legacy/Screenshot-71.jpg
Risk inherited his mother's nose.
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n145/yangthecat/Risk%20Legacy/Screenshot-51.jpg
Zoe fishing. Barnacle Bay actually sucks for fishing spots, btw. I had to add fish spawners to a pond they categorized as a fishing spot because it had none at all (seriously), and I added a pond to the science facility for robot fishes.
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n145/yangthecat/Risk%20Legacy/Screenshot-49.jpg
This is their teeny cottage. It's built on a 30x40 lot so it can grow with the legacy.

Here's the interior. That's all of it. I think Risk was inspired by sorbet flavors when he chose the colors. :giggler:

In my original legacy, I built a family cemetery community lot and bought it for my family. Because it was an owned community lot, it generated income. The same was true for the park I had to build for the 'living green' requirement, and I bought a junkyard lot for my inventor career Sim to work in.
Is all that forbidden now? TBH, for me the new flipper career isn't very appealing, and I rather not lose my ability to own and keep community lots because of it.

I am happy to read your story again Calisims.. I hope you'll update your blog too..
Here is Emmy Shepard, generation 1 in Bridgeport (I don't know if it's a good idea to play in Bridgeport but as I 've the goal "change of scenery" in generation 3 I'll be able to move if things start to work bad)

Here are her goals
Single parent/ 2 kids/ Criminal (evil) career/ LTW/ multicultural.
For her first day in Bridgeport, she went to the criminal building to be hired.. and she met her boss, who is a vampire. It's nice because it'll be easier to fulfill my wish ( I'd want her to have kids with a vampire )
She lives in a small but comfortable apartment
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-7116.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-7116.php)
I've rolled for the heir (thanks for this good idea severedsolo) and the second child will be my heir. I won't do anything to influence the pregnancy as I want to be surprised by the gender..
See you soon

Just got Late Night in the mail. I'm so excited! Bout to try it out now. Crossing my fingers that it doesn't crash. Backed up. . . I think. I'm not sure if I'm going about it properly. I don't think I'm ready to play this legacy yet, but will continue to spy on those of you who wish to share your experiences. I'm currently doing another legacy challenge that I'm not bored of yet.
Edit: crashed, even though I opened it without the launcher, and it had not been updated since the last update which worked perfectly. I think I'll delete my mods and see if that helps. (Sad) :(
Edit again: I did the edp thing, and it seems to be working. I've only tried bridgeport for a few minutes. I'm scared to go back to my other town just yet. I'm not ready for failage. So, I'll see how long this'll let be play before I decide to get brave.
I didn't even have the grayed out lot problem that I was reading about! I fricken love technology.
Also: EA is effing up and they really need to get it together.

No, I roll each generation in the same time.. So I know in advance if I'll be able to manage the challenge. I don't want to play 4 generations, for instance, to discover later that I'll have to start over because the fifth generation is "a single woman, business woman, 5 kids, perfect kids, no strangers" lol..
In fact, I think I'd have prefer to roll after the birth of the first kid but only if we were allowed to reroll before a "bad" combination. There are a few impossible combinations in this challenge..

Right. I got one and that's why I stopped playing. I had to have a single father adopt 3 kids who had to be all half-siblings. I did not know how I was going to pull that off.
That's not a bad idea. I think I'll try that and save it for when I'm ready to play. But I do like being surprised. . . BUT it might keep me from quitting in boredom or frustration. Yup, gonna do that right now. . . .And put it away in case I change my mind later and decide I want to be surprise. . .

Okay, so I rolled for my ten generations. I even went to a random name generator and got ambiguous names for everyone. I think I'll go ahead and get started. I'll do it in Bridgeport, to give me the opportunity to check out the town.
My first generation is Cameron and Chase Parker and for them I rolled: Couple 4 kids Medical Collector Awesome Hands off.
Kids will be named Sidney,Terry, Bailey, Jordan, in that order. Bailey will be the heir.
My awesome will be collecting all the bugs and gems (heart cut or better). I heard there were some new bugs and gems that come with LN, but since I don't know what they are, I'm not commiting myself to finding them. If I do randomly, great, if not, whatev. I'm excited. It will be challenging finding bugs and gems in Bridgeport I think.

So I'm on Gen 5 - my heir, Heather, is a single mother with three children, who must all be half siblings. Sigh. I picked the gene donors when she was a teen, so while I got one down the second one is being annoying. And how weird are Sims 3 genetics - her biological daughter has her adopted father's dyed green hair. I mean, passing down dyed hair, fine. But she's adopted! That's not possible! What the hell, Sims 3?

Ugh, EA story progression is making me crazy. Every time I have my Sim read the paper, I get a notification that one of the town toddlers or babies has died of starvation. And EA keeps moving more vanilla pudding families in.
I'm not really sentimental about sim babies, but I am interested in keeping my town alive and keeping some facial feature diversity by having the original town inhabitants breed with each other. They may not all be pretty, but at least they have unique features. I'm not interested in having my town's original bloodlines die out and have the town taken over by the identical vanilla puddings that move in.
So, I've reinstalled Twallan's story progression. I'm going to make the settings as limited as possible so it's focused mainly on keeping my town breeding (and not killing off the babies). I'll see how it goes. And when it comes to the point of throwing too many error 12s at me, I'll pack it up and move to another town, even if I haven't rolled that option.
Anyway, just voicing my frustration. My next door neighbors just lost their 2nd child and I was just about ready to turn it off and never play again I was so frustrated. :faceslap:
NickeyElysse
10th Dec 2010, 08:06 PM
That's so odd Cali. I've never had an error 12. I don't even know what it is. I don't know about the dying babies thing cuz I don't read the newspaper. I use Twallan's too, which is great. Mostly cuz I just like to know what's going on in town for snooping purposes. As for no pudding, Awesome Mod is said to take care of that. It makes sure the NCP and move ins (I think) have randomized features and voices. I just installed it before bed and am about to test it out now. I, of course, had to make sure the story progression was off so it wouldn't interfere with Twallan's.
I am sorry if you already know all this and chose otherwise.
Edit: Just tested it out, and I'm thinking my game hates awesomeness. :(
It wouldn't load. It would get to the loading screen and just sit there. No filling bar, no scrolling messages. Just lameyness. So after trouble shooting the only thing that worked was getting rid of awesome. again :(
Maybe I had it set up in some contradictory way. But whatev. It's too much of a pain in the butt. I bet there's some slider program out there that has nothing to do with awesome that'll help with the ncp and immigrant faces.
calisims
10th Dec 2010, 09:45 PM
Yeah, I knew that about awesomemod. I used to use it, but it's a huge mod and not all the features are tunable or even documented, so I ultimately decided there was more about it I didn't like than stuff I did, so I stopped using it.
Twallan's master controller lets you change NPC's faces, so I can edit any that do move in. But I like my town to have a sense of history so I'd prefer the people that live there already to create new generations, rather than having them die childless only to be replaced by generic Sims that I have to make faces for.
Error 12s happen if your PC doesn't have enough memory to save a large town. So, with my specs after a neighborhood gets into around the 5th generation or so, its file is too big to save. Using Twallan's story progression helps cause this problem because having the town be active adds to the data that needs to be saved. So I was trying EA's story progression to see if my town could go further with less activity.
From what I've read, when story progression makes a Sim starve to death it's to control the population. But on the same day that it's starving some born in game baby to death, it's moving in a family of vanilla puddings. I'm guessing the process is they randomly make a family to move in, find that the town already has plenty of people and doesn't need a new family, so they kill off some current residents to make room. :faceslap:
Well, I'm not sure that's how it works, I just know I'd rather go back to using Twallan's story progression where I can turn immigration pressure to 0.

hello, I just rolled for gen 2 rules and I got random for the "Miscellaneous Fun", however gen 1 had runs in the family , so do I give the heir that trait and randomize the others or should I just re-roll?
+ I have a suggestion .. for the "Change of Scenery" how about adding a sub-roll to pick one of the 4 options you listed and adding a 5th one for moving into the high-rise apartment thingy ^^

Sorry havent checked in guys, been busy with the real world, havem't been able to Sim at all.
@flanah "Runs in the Family" only effects the founders if rolled for Gen 1. For Gen 2 just use "Random"
Re: Change of Scenery that was actually my original idea, but I decided to leave it open as not everyone wants their sims to be forced to move to a new town. I will consider making it optional though (got a few optional rules im working on atm)
@Cali Yeah im not too happy about "Flipper" either, to be honest. Originally it was just a "makedo" fix for Tiggers messing up the career rolls (14 was both Standard and Non standard careers) Ill see about replacing it with something better. I hadnt considered family graveyards and such, thats a good point.
The main reason I'm not happy with Flipper is I think it goes against the "spirit" of the challenge. I have no idea what Tigger had in mind when she created this, but my personal "vision" if you will, is of a challenge that doesn't really feel like your playing a challenge. Obviously you have to have goals and such, but mainly you should be able to play as you normally would.
On a Side Note: Im considering doing away with Tiggers "Laundry must be enabled" rule. I honestly don't see the point of it, just throwing it out there, any objections? speak now or forever hold your peace.

I've been thinking about the flipper career a bit. To me 'flipper' is focused on buying a lot, improving it and selling it again for a profit. I'd be more interested in 'investor', where you buy a community lot and live off its profits (improving it to make higher profits if you want). Of course, people could still choose to flip rather than retain the investment. This could include becoming partners with the rabbit hole businesses, too. And we'd have to decide if all properties must be sold when that generation dies (or before).
And we could just write an exception for allowed types of community lots for outside the rolled career, like the family graveyard, the park for the living green requirement, and an allowance for owning a community lot as the 'something awesome' misc fun thing.
As for laundry, I like it so I'd have it enabled anyway even without the rule. I guess the point was to have more chores for the Sims to do, and a bit of extra expense in buying the machines or using a laundromat. I don't care if that rule gets removed one way or the other.
ETA: I just thought of another exception for allowing ownership of comm. lots outside the 'flipper' type career (if we decide to keep such a career, lol). There is a LTW for mixology that requires owning a bar as well as maxing the skill, so obviously anyone trying for that LTW would have to be able to own a bar. You could also make that exception for anyone who rolls the mixology career, too, allowing them to own a bar if they choose.

Very good beginning Calisims
After two appointments in Bridgeport's clubs, it was not hard for Emmy to have her boss in her bed. She was in love with Wogan Hemlock, and this love led to the births of two sons: Matt and Andy.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-845.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-845.php)
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-883.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-883.php)
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-9112.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-9112.php)
The household has not a lot of money. Emmy has not worked hard since the beginning as she was occupied with her love and her pregnancies. She is only at the level 2 of her career, although she's almost an adult.
The two boys are both vampires. Matt look like his father, who is awfully ugly (sighs) but it seems that Andy will look like his mother. I hope it will be the case, because I've rolled for my heir.. And Andy will be my heir.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-1074.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-1074.php)
Matt
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-1185.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-1185.php)
Andy
Despite all her efforts, Emmy discovered that Wogan was not ready to leave his wife (Morrigan) and their 3 kids to live with her. Wogan is a vampire and Morrigan and their kids too, so he's sure it'll be too hard to live with a human, a woman with basic needs and who will be elder and will die quickly.. Moreover, Morrigan is Emmy's partner in the criminal career and Wogan doesn't want to work in an atmosphere of fights, cries and arguments.
Questions about the rules:
1) Is it possible to turn our active sims into vampires, or momies? I think it could be better to find rules for that.
2) I think it's a pity there is no rules for couples or kids. I mean that the section A or B are so unchanged.. Why not introduce divorced couple or divorced and re-married couples, or 1 kid and 2 adopted kids if we have rolled for 3 childs for instance..
3) "flipper" career is not a problem for me, but I think it may be boring after a few times. If the only thing we have to do is buy properties, it'll not be very challenging for this generation..

Emmy is very pretty, mimi. Hopefully her heir will inherit her looks.
The Bridgeport vampires aren't a good looking bunch, at least not the males. I like Wogan's wife Morrigan, though she has a wide head.
lytefoot made a list of alternative family structure rules, I just dug the list out of the original thread:
A. Marital Structure (roll 1-20)
1-5) Single Parent - You must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. If your heir is female, you aren't allowed to move in the father of any children they may have. If your heir is male, the mother may be moved in for the pregnancy but must leave the lot within 24 sim hours of giving birth. Do not roll for section D.
6) Adoptive Single Parent You must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. In addition, you must obtain all of your children via adoption. Do not roll for section D.
7) Mixed Single Parent - You must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. In addition, you must produce at least one biological child and obtain one child via adoption. You may exceed the number of children rolled in section B in order to accomplish this (though to the minimum necessary). Do not roll for section D.
8-16) Couple You must obtain a spouse or unmarried partner.
17) Adoptive Couple You must obtain a spouse or unmarried partner. In addition, you must obtain all of your children via adoption.
18) Mixed Couple - You must obtain a spouse or unmarried partner. In addition, you must produce at least one biological child and obtain one child via adoption. You may exceed the number of children rolled in section B in order to accomplish this (though to the minimum necessary).
19) Step Children - You must obtain a spouse or unmarried partner who already has one or more children who are not your sim's biological children. You are allowed to exceed the number of children rolled in section B when moving in the spouse, and may produce children with the new spouse (by any means--biological or adopted) in order to reach the total you rolled. However, your heir must be one of the step children.
20) Childless - You may obtain a spouse or unmarried partner, but must not produce any children. Do not roll for section B, and reroll any result in section E or F related to children or child-rearing. You must obtain an heir by other means. For example, you might move in a friend, or the child of a relative. Your heir must not be moved in via cheats (rather by the "ask to move in" interaction), must be a Teen or Young Adult when moved in, and must not be created directly by you in CAS.
I forgot about them until you mentioned it just now.
I agree with you that the flipper career would be kind of boring, especially if you roll no income for secondary (or have no spouse at all). Having Sims with nothing to do all day gets kind of dull.

Is it possible to turn our active sims into vampires, or momies? I think it could be better to find rules for that.
As it stands at the moment Vampire turning is fine. Ghosts are currently restricted to only being for "Multi Cultural" purposes when resurrecting. This may change later on, see below. Likewise Mummies are fine. Bear in mind though, in an unmodded game Mummies can't reproduce.
On the subject of the family structure, I definitely agree that needs work, its actually right up there at the top of my list of things to change. Unfortunately the "things to look" at section is getting a bit bigger than the "things i've changed" section. I will try to redress the balance. Unfortunately I have alot of other commitments at the moment. Between work, (I work at a hotel, so its a nightmare over christmas) and making sure I spend enough time with my fiancee, things are a bit hectic. I promise there is something on the way though.
Flipper is gone. Primary Income is now 1-19 not 1-20 (I decided not to upset the balance between standard and Ambitions Careers, so I just moved everything down 1 number)

From now on this post will be used for rules which are "In Testing"
Basically this will be used for Rules which seem like a good idea, but may or may not work. The idea is that if you want to play rules which are known to work in terms of gameplay, you use the rules from Page 1. If you want to help out with my testing then you can use the extended rules here as well as those on Page 1 (the numbers will be a continuation of page 1's numbers where applicable). This will also be the platform for the "Optional" Rules, so some of the rules posted here will never make it onto Page 1.
Im making this now, as its still fairly findable on Page 2. I should have really reserved an extra post at the beginning but didn't think about it at the time.
First Draft of new "Family Structure" Rules (replaces Section "A")
A. Marital Structure
1-3) Single Parent - You must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. If your heir is female, you aren't allowed
to move in the father of any children they may have. If your heir is male, the mother may be moved in for the
pregnancy but must leave the lot within 24 sim hours of giving birth. Do not roll for section D.
4) Adoptive Single Parent You must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. In addition, you must obtain all of
your children via adoption. Do not roll for section D.
5) Single Parent: "Long Lost Heir" - You must not retain a spouse or partner on the lot. All children must be raised OUTSIDE your Active Household. When the chosen heir becomes a YA they must be moved in using the "Ask To Move In" interaction (NOT using Edit Town or any Mods/Cheats) If your heir is male, you aren't allowed to move the mother in under any circumstances. If your heir is female then you may use Edit Town or a Mod/cheat which allows you to move babies (who can't normally be moved) into the fathers household as soon as the baby is born. Children born outside the active household still count towards the child limit. (If using EA's story progression I highly recommend making the "adoptee" household playable at least once to stop them emigrating) Do Not Roll for Section D
to move in the mother of any children you may have.
6-10) Couple You must obtain a spouse or unmarried partner.
11) Adoptive Couple You must obtain a spouse or unmarried couple. In addition, you must obtain all of your
children via adoption.
12) Couple: "Long Lost Heir"- You must obtain a spouse or unmarried couple. All children must be raised OUTSIDE your Active Household. When the chosen heir becomes a YA they must be moved in using the "Ask To Move In" interaction (NOT using Edit Town or any Mods/Cheats) When the children are born they must be "adopted" by another family and raised by them. In this circumstance you may use Edit Town or a Mod/cheat which allows you to move babies (who can't normally be moved) into the "surrogate" household as soon as the baby is born. Children born outside the active household still count towards the child limit. (If using EA's story progression I highly recommend making the "adoptee" household playable at least once to stop them emigrating)
The Famous "Heir" Rule
Once you know how many children your Sims need to have, Roll a random number between 1 and <Number of Children>. The number rolled will be the number child born (in chronological order) who must be heir.
If playing this rule, you are not allowed under any circumstances to influence any of your children's gender.
Example: Section B rolls 4 Children. You then roll between 1 and 4, and produce a 3. This means the 3rd Child born will be the heir.

As Cali said, it would be difficult to implement with the biological rolls.
Also you can guarantee that someone will kick off at the idea of having to force their Sims to be gay. Its not really an issue I want to force. Personally I just make my Adoptive Sims gay, and my biological ones straight.

Backyard. There is still tons of empty space on the right side of the house, so if I ever roll expansionist there is still room to expand the house or add a pool.
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n145/yangthecat/Risk%20Legacy/Screenshot-87.jpg
First floor. Right now there's 3 cribs kind of shoved anywhere. When the boys get older I'll figure out how to divide up the two 1st floor bedroom between them.
Since we are hoarders, the cribs will go into the basement beneath the garage later.

Second floor. The pink wall bedroom is Risk & Zoe's, the blue wall bedroom is Cameron & Lionel's.

No, they don't...I would have never played with vampires in this case...babies, toddlers, children and teens age normally. They feed normally too (the only difference with normal kids is that children and teens can drink plasma juices)... the vampire features appear only when they become YA.

hi everyone.
i'm finally ready to play this legacy challange. i've lurked around since the first random legacy challange (rules orginally set up by tigger) and have followed all of y'all's (yes i say y'all) stories and am truely fascinated.(actually inspired me to buy "the sims3"). i'm actually a bit intimidated to try this because i'm no where NEAR as creative and i have so much fun following the lives of the sims created by y'all. i just had a couple of quick questions...
1) do you have to stay on the lot you start with? i do not know how to build a house other than in a square.. and i've downloaded tons of houses, and i'm interested in using one of those houses as my legacy home. so i guess my question is.. once my sims have earned enough money.. can i move them to a different home or place the custom home on my orginally purchased lot.
2) at this time i do not have world adventures..once i get world adventures, do i add those roll options for the next generation? or do i just play for 10 generations without using world adventures?
i would like to thank everyone in advance for taking the time out to answer my questions.

Hi, orkhid, nice to meet you.
The original rule does have you staying on the same lot for the entire legacy. Now there is new rule where you roll a generation goal that allows you move off the lot.
If you add WA, you can roll for WA related rules as soon as you add it.

My generation 1 is almost over. Emmy will be elder in 3 days.
Andy (my heir) has found a very particular new girlfriend. Her name is Rosa Getaway.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-1642.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-1642.php)
My first household in Bridgeport was friend with Tom Wordy. He died of starvation during a party I was doing in my house. I liked this sim so much that I decided to keep his urn in my sim's inventory and I brought it to the scientist center as soon as I received the ghost's opportunity. But the experience turned wrong and Tom Wordy was brought back to life as a vampire and a ghost.
So after that, I removed him from my house and let him live his new life in the neighborood. But Twallan's storyprogression is very good to manage NPC and Tom met a girl I had previously installed in the neighborood: a vampire, Georgia Getaway, and they have had a girl: Rosa
The funny thing is that the goal for my generation 2 is "multicultural" (again). So I think Rosa is the best option. I 've never played with ghost until now and I hope she'll be able to be pregnant or to age normally. At present, she's a teenager.
The only difficulty is that the game doesn't seem to like ghosts, and Rosa cannot be called by phone. She doesn't appear in my household relationships panels.. and the only thing I can do is invite her at a party or go to visit her at her home. She's at school, like normal teens, but sometimes she's not at school at all. It's a bit annoying..
Emmy is at level 9 of her career. I've only to fulfill her LTW (level 10 in the evil career) and my generation 1 will be over. But now, she has earned enough money to decorate her apartment and create individual rooms for her sons..

Are sims that I've created that live in my hood allowed to marry into the legacy? And if not, are any children they've had autonomously with ea sims allowed to join the legacy?
I've yet to add any sims to the hood other than my legacy family and a few other ea families they were acquainted with in Sunset Valley(Frio/Keaton/Goth/Elfman) BUT if they are allowed I'd like to add some pretty sims into the Bridgeport gene pool, especially since I've turned off immigration/emigration for the hood.

She became elder one day after this promotion. She has plenty of time now to enjoy her life.
Emmy wanted to start over her relationship with Wogan hemlock but after one attempt to make love in an elevator, it was clear for Emmy that Wogan didn't love her anymore and that he found now more interest in young girls. It's a big disadvantage to fall in love with a vampire, because Emmy is elder now and Wogan is an adult yet. So, this simple fact was sufficient to break their relationship.

I'm just starting this challenge, since stumbling across your blog. It's been really fun to read!
QUESTION: for this challenge s it best to have story progression on, or off? I assumed I needed children in the town for the future heirs to breed with, so I turned it on for the first time in ages when I started this challenge, and overnight all the old people in Riverview became vampires. =(

Hi, NutsandDolts,
In general it is best to have some kind of story progression on for this challenge. But EA story progression is kind of lame, and it does turn a lot of into vampires and celebrities (I'm not sure which is worse, lol).
There are story progression mods out there like Twallan's (the one I use) which make story progression better and prevents having all your neighbors vamped & celebrified.
http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=65eca0b44da41f5319b6d0fad83528ca&topic=4689.0
Or, if you don't want a complete overhaul to story progression, you can check out Shimrod's mod that stops all the vampire & celebrity turnings:
http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=424796
If you don't want to use story progression at all, you may find you have to add new neighbors into the neighborhood to keep the town alive.

Thanks calisims. ^.^
I'm going to look into those mods. I like the families EA worked on and placed in the towns, so story progression always broke my heart because it sort of aggressively mutilated them.

Calisims, I like the way you manage your household :gjob: .. Your twins are really cute..Misty is pretty and I am sure she will be a suitable wife for Shadow.
I will certainly wait a bit before having children in this generation. Andy and Rosa have 103 days as YA! which means they will live a long long time :anime: . I'll start this generation by creating something awesome ( it's the goal of this generation.). I would want them to buy a museum and to collect all kinds of gems and stones in the game. All these cut gems will be exposed in the museum.
If you don't want to use story progression at all, you may find you have to add new neighbors into the neighborhood to keep the town alive.
Even by adding families, the EA storyprogression is very frustrating because these families don't progress in anything.. when they are YA, the game let them unemployed. When they become adult, the game gives them a job, but they stay at the level 1, and when they become elder, most of them are sent to retirments. Most people in town stay alone, they never marry, they have no childs...so Twallan is the best option, and it provides more fun than this boring EA storyprogression..

I placed Twallan's in my game and I'll just see what happens. ;)
You should add the boys' rooms to your blog, calisims. It's almost like their grandfather influenced them. 0=)
So far my sims have focused on just getting by. Their home isn't as pretty as I'd like. It's been a challenge... I'd like to expand their house, but don't have the funds yet. One aged to adult already, so it was time for them to create the heir. =( They ended up with twins and... wow... I've always cheated before, so I didn't realize they'd drive their parents bonkers. =P

I really like the improved story progression... except it seems to keep moving people out of town, even when I turn moving to false. O.o Oh well, I'll deal with it. There's probably even some setting I am overlooking.
My generation 1 has finally met their parameters, and I'm working on generation 2 by having the heir work on her skills. I even started blogging about it because I've been pretty bored (the other game I usually play is suffering from server issues). My boyfriend commented, "your blog isn't as witty as that other person's." Haha. =)
I've started to experience random game freezes, just today. I guess it could be because of the mod, but knowing this game it could be any old thing. =( I've dealt with it so far by saving my game more often.

so far, Gianna turned into elder and I moved her out.. and my heir is young adult, I had him to eat his ambrosia as soon as he aged cuz he is a vampire and his spin is already too long .. he adopted a baby girl and named her Alba (Again random name generator) she is not the heir since I used the new rules and the heir should be the second child..
the rules I got for the 3rd gen :
Couple
2 kids
income 1: Business
income 2: None
Fulfilled
Runs in the Family...

So gen 6 - fun fun fun - a couple with 5 kids, multicultural - but the only EP I have is ambitions so 5 ghost babies for me! Basically, I have to move his wife in, kill her, and get the "restore" option before she gets too old. They're also dirt poor - she's a part-timer and he's in criminal, which pays next to nothing in the first five levels - but they need room for 5 babies and an expansion for the gen goal. And my previous gen? Was also expansionist, so all that money went to the first addition. Not too mention babysitter expenses - (no room left for gen 5 to help out). Sigh. At least it's never boring.

I didn't see it happen the last time I played, but it happened the time before that. x.x Maybe it's magically fixed itself?
Since this is my first time ever with aging on, I'm annoyed at the sim life cycle more than anything. My great-grandparents played a huge role in my own life, but with the aging set to "normal" as this challenge asks, the grandparents probably never ever get to see their grandchildren grow up. Talk about depressing! I'm not sure what mod I could use to change this and still keep with the spirit of the challenge. It's a challenge, after all.

NutsAndDolts - I use the SLAM aging mod w/ RealLife- it puts most of your days in adult, so grandparents and great grandparents are still around, but is still challenging because your children become young adults in around 28 days, and you have to finish the previous gen goal before the new gen hits young adult, so you get that wonderful time crunch. And you have about 10 different choices for length, one of which is equivalent to the "normal" lifespan.

For my part, I can't use the Twallan SP anymore. It crashs my game.. I don't know the reason and Twallan cannot help me as there is no informations about this issue. At first, it crashs after an hour, now I play only 2 or 3 minutes and it crashs.. My game works well without the mod (with only the Overwatch and the Mastercontroller).. I try to manage by installing new families, then I use the mod a few minutes, which permit the new neigbhours to find a job.. then I remove the mod. It's not exciting but it's the only way I've found to take benefit of my game. EA storyprogression is too boring. :(
Andy married Rosa in their small apartment. Only their family (Matt and Kelsey), Wogan and a few friends were invited. Kelsey was pregnant at this time. I'd have been glad to play with her, as I find she has a very interesting and pretty face..

The wedding
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-2260.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-2260.php)
Kelsey and Matt Striker-Shepard (Matt is on the back)
The generation 3 is born in my game: a boy whose name is Anthony. Anthony will be my heir (I've rolled for the firstborn).. He's the son of a ghost and a vampire.. but he's only a vampire.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-2441.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-2441.php)
Anthony, heir of the generation 3 (I'd have prefer to raise a heiress, but I've only boys since the beginning)
The first grand child of Emmy was Kelsey and Matt's daughter. Her name is Jamille, and she's a vampire too.. all my town will turn into vampires lol
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-2418.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-2418.php)
Jamille Striker-Shepard (Anthony's cusin)
Andy works in the military career. I'm happy of that because it's a career I had never fully tested. He has reached the level 5 yet.
His wife has less chances. It's very difficult to progress in the business career, because it doesn't depend on skills or mood but mainly on relationships with coworkers and boss.. and I need more than a afternoon to increase these relationships. So she's only at the level 2..
A second child must follow but I'll wait a bit because the apartment is really too small for 2 adults, 1 elder, and 2 babies..Maybe Emmy will be called soon by the Grim reaper, so I'll have more place to decorate the nursery
Last thing: I wanted to buy a property (a museum) for my sim to create something awesome. To complete this goal I bought an empty lot, thinking it won't be expensive and that I'll be able to build a beautiful art gallery on it.. But when I tried to buy it with the computer, I was really stunned to read that the price of the property is 82.000 simoleons.. What's the problem in this game? It has non-sense, the empty lot is more expensive than a family house. So no possibility for the moment to buy an art gallery, they are not really rich...

Couple
3 Kids
Military Career & Architect
Change of scenery
And runs in family (Light Sleeper)
Just to clarify: Primary income is one of the adults "jobs" and secondary income is the other, but, if you have one adult and you roll, lets say, medicine career as your primary income and business as your secondary income, how would you do this? Or would you just not roll for secondary income if youhad one adult???? :L

mimi, I'm sorry to hear about your crashes. I agree with you, EA sp is really dull and stupid. I'm glad you've got a way to work around it, though it is too bad about the crashing.
NutsAndDolts, about the death flower, there was someone in the original thread who asked about that because she'd forgotten that one of her elders had fished one up and had it in their inventory when the Reaper showed up. I don't think Tigger ever responded to that question so there is no official rule about it.
I personally have had deathflowers in the inventories of all the YAs and adults in the house in this legacy and the previous. As one generation becomes elder they pass them on to the heirs. But, they've never been needed as no one has ever met Grim early or unexpectedly, they all die of old age. I really only have the deathflowers because they get fished up or grown from an unidentified special seed.
I've got chapter 7 of my blog up:

30th Dec 2010, 01:12 AM
Thanks, mimi. I actually chose Misty's formal outfit; the game's choice was a very mismatched pantsuit. :faceslap:
So, the dress I picked is a *little* shorter than a traditional wedding gown, but I thought it suited Shadow & Misty's wedding.
I didn't change the other guests' formal wear though, even though her brother had on ripped jeans and a sweater, lol.
For Misty & Shadow's children, I was using lytefoot's variation on the marital rolls and got mixed couple, 2 kids. So they will have one biological child and one adopted. I'm hoping they have an interesting child together. They are definitely a fun couple to play.
LOL, someday, I'll roll for 5 kids, but so far in this challenge, including my previous legacy, I never got more than 3.

That's how I got my death flowers, too. I'm letting the male founder hold onto them for now, because I'm a blind cheater and I feel he earned them with all that gardening. His wife already died...
She was moving laundry to the dryer when she died, so she left a huge pile of wet clothes on the floor. After taking her soul, the Grim Reaper put the clothes in the dryer, then appeared to criticize the sobbing widower for having a dirty house.
So, is it normal for a sim to age up to elder and still keep their job as a criminal henchman? I recall reading that elders could only have part time jobs, and while it would make sense if elders could keep existing jobs, I'm paranoid it may be some mod at work without my knowledge, since I've never had elders before. x.x I let the female founder continue with her job until the heir turned YA, then I told her to "retire" at City Hall. I'm wondering if retirement is also a mod's doing, because it has work hours and stuff. It's weird.
ALSO my heir has been on maternity leave for 5 days. The job tab says she'll return to work in x days and x hours, then the next morning I check again and the time has increased rather than decreased. >=( This is good for her kid, who has to be perfect and all, but if it's a glitch I want to take care of it. I assume I'd have her quit her job and then use the mailbox to return to her old position (or just have her quit and start at level 1 again for the lulz).

One time I had an elder die while potty training a toddler, and Grim emptied the potty chair afterwards. Grim tends to be Neat, I think.
Elders can keep regular jobs until they die, they don't have to retire or take a part time job.
The maternity days in this game are ridiculous. I'm using a mod that stops all maternity leave, so my pregnant Sims and new moms still have to go to work, so I don't remember what maternity days were like. (awesomemod has a similar no maternity leave feature, and tigger approved awesome mod for this challenge, so I assume mods that do things included in am are allowed.)
ETA: If you do find you have to quit a job and restart, you can use master controller to go back to your previous job level.

Nice update, Calisims  .. Who's your heir? allyson, Roslyn or the future adopted baby?
I've a question about the rules: Do the goals of each generation have to be completed BEFORE the following generation becomes YA?
Here's my update
Andy has no real difficulties to progress in his career. He has even been visited by his boss: general Von Watson (a real good name for a military lol).. They have a good relationship. Andy is now at level 6 of his career.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-2531.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-2531.php)
Anthony, my heir, became toddler. Despite the small size of their apartment, I found enough place to create for him a wonderful nursery.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-2570.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-2570.php)
After 3 failed attempts, Rosa fell pregnant a second (and last) time..It was annoying to try so much times, because each time they make love together, they both lose their friends (because of paparazzi spreading the noise that they make love with creatures). This feature of the game is very annoying because in my case Rosa has lost all her relationships with her own family (mother, brothers and sisters).. And I've to rebuild relationships between Andy and his mother each time he makes love with his own wife. Stupid game! :faceslap: As I was tired of boys, I made her eat 10 watermelons during a pregnancy, thinking there was a chance it didn't work on a vampire/ghost female. But 3 days after, she gave birth to a cute little girl: Kelly (a vampire too of course).. Kelly is friendly and genius.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-2830.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-2830.php)
Emmy is 85 years old. She has found a boyfriend, much younger than her, but real love doesn't take care of age. And she's happy and quiet now.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-2700.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-2700.php)
As I've troubles with Twall's storyprogression, I use mastercontroller to manage the neighbours. But it's not really the same thing  . I am suspecting that the problem is Bridgeport and not really my game (the SP mod worked well before LN). As the generation 3's goal is "change of scenery" I think I'll test and move them to another town, with less bugs and glitches
calisims
2nd Jan 2011, 10:24 PM
mimi, there is a mod by HP that takes away the disgrace that comes making love to occult Sims.
http://www.modthesims.info/d/424239
That mod comes in different flavors to make becoming a celebrity more difficult, if you want that too, but there is also a flavor that leaves celebrity difficulty at EA default and just changes the disgrace thing.
EA really messed that one up.
And I do hope moving from Bridgeport helps with your crashing issues. I played Bridgeport for only a short time, without Twallan's mod, myself. I like the urban atmosphere, but got very tired of Sims wasting all their time waiting for elevators, lol.
Allyson is the heir for this generation. I rolled for firstborn, and she was first.
ETA: The goals only have to be completed before the Sim dies, so you can still work on the old goals while the next generation takes over.

Edit: I've tested my game in Barnacle Bay and played 2 full days with a couple of sims. Everything worked fine...I've to test much more but as I cannot play more than 1 or 2 minutes in bridgeport with Twallan's SP, I can say now that Bridgeport IS the problem. It's a pity that every new neighborood made-by-EA has troubles in them.. So, if someone wants to play this challenge, Bridgeport is not the right place to start it because of all these glitchs and also because life in apartment is boring after a few times (country life is much more interesting and exciting in the game ):luff:

Yeah, if you really want to wait for the heir to be a YA before having all your required children, you could do that. If you rolled Perfect Children as a goal you would still have to meet all the perfect parameters with the later child to succeed. Having the parents die before the younger children become YA and move out would probably be considered failure, so you'd want to time that late birth carefully.
I did once ask Tigger about moving out the previous generation once the heir took over and she said it was okay as long as the previous had met all parameters, so that would kind of imply that it would be possible that the heir's generation had begun before the previous parameters were met.
This challenge is weird that way, some of the rolls, like Random Traits, are in effect the moment the heir is born, but others aren't until the heir is YA.

mimi250

multicultural means that you'll have to find a partner from a different origin, either an occult (vampire, ghost..) or a foreigner (chinese, egyptian or french). So, you cannot create the couple in the CAS..
good luck for your challenge... you've rolled very interesting goals for the first generation
calisims
3rd Jan 2011, 08:20 PM
You mean the house my legacy family lives in? I did build that.
For your first generation, you can create your couple in CAS. But since you rolled multicultural, the children your first generation has will have to be from at least one parent who either comes from a WA vacation world, or is a ghost or vampire. I don't know if you can create a vampire in CAS. You definitely can't create a ghost or foreign Sim in CAS.
So, rolling that in first generation is a challenge, you either need to make one single Sim and have him/her find a multicultural mate, or create a couple in CAS and have one turn into a vampire or ghost. Or I guess, create a couple and have some extramarital affair with a foreign sim or supernatural.
NutsAndDolts
3rd Jan 2011, 08:39 PM
Multi-cultural children are achieved because the parents are from two different "cultures" (France, Egypt, China, Vampire, or Ghost). So as I understand it, you could have a vampire breed with a Chinaman, but two vampires as parents wouldn't be multicultural.
Technically you CAN create the couple in CAS. You'd just have to immediately engineer the death of one or the other... which isn't as easy as it sounds, without cheating. Or you could have one of them befriend a vampire and be turned, before having the children? I'm not sure if the vampire counts if it wasn't a vampire at birth or before it met its spouse, though. Even though I'm thinking it would count for ghosts because ghost sims act radically different from normal sims. x.x They definitely went through something and were changed on a personal level, while vampire sims can choose to act pretty much like normal sims who faint in the sun.

There are tutorials for building in the Help section. You could also look at real house plans for inspiration.
The house I built for my legacy was based on a plan for a very small cottage, which I've expanded as the family has grown. You can expand your house even if you haven't rolled expansionist. You aren't restricted from doing things that goals you haven't rolled (like you can raise perfect children any time, if you want, lol) you just can't have more (or less) children than you rolled for, or have income outside your rolled job.
Here is a link to the site I got my cottage floor plans from. They are the easiest houses to build, and are easily expanded on later.

Well... I already failed. I may keep playing since it's just for fun anyway. I'm already on generation 3.
I've had my criminal sim sell items she invented, and my military sim sell items found in China. I was planning on selling some of the double paintings my unemployed sim created, a few generations after his death. Also he kept discovering stars and making money off that, despite being unemployed, and I didn't discourage his use of the telescope. My criminal sim hacked on the computer, and menaced the town's public properties with the miner she invented, which produced some gems I sold and others I kept. One of my teens had a part-time job, though I didn't roll perfect children. One of my kids caught a moth and I sold it. So I've been breaking rules all over the place. =D

You did break a lot of rules, but one exception I forgot to mention is the telescope. If you make money finding stars, that's okay, too.
I'm not sure about having teens get part time jobs, though. Technically they don't roll for a career, so that might be okay, too. No one ever brought that up, I don't think.
But the rest is definitely forbidden.

I guess I just find my sims boring if I don't give them extra hobbies. Also a bit strange if they end up with inventories clogged with nonsense I can't get rid of..... then again that might not be a problem if I don't allow them to do anything other than what I rolled.
I digress. Back to the drawing board. ^.^

i too already failed! hahaha. i forgot to set the aging to normal. and i sold my fish. and i just had one other question. since i rolled green-living. when you first start, you dont have any plants or produce. so i feel that it's ok to eat the quick meals, just no cooked meals, since any cooked meals have to come from the garden with the exception of meats and eggs and cheese. am i correct calisims?
and calisims thanks for that website. it helped me to at least get an IDEA! haha and i'm gonna TRY to make something similiar. i'm starting ALL over. i have a plan on how to make this living green, multi-cultural generation work.

@ NutsAndDolts, I agree, it is a pain to have all that stuff you can't sell cluttering your inventories. What I've been doing is sticking extra paintings, fish, gems etc in the inventories of my spares so they take it with them when they move out.
@orkhid, There isn't anything in the living green rules against eating quick meals, so that should be okay. Also, your fridge comes pre-stocked with a few items, I think it would be okay to cook with that as well, since it will be a few days before you can harvest anything.

so i was playing my game today.. and all of a sudden i got paid 105,000? should i remove it from my family funds? i did not use any money cheats. i'm still puzzled where it came from. and just a quick update, i've been playing for a sim week and spent all my money (before i mysteriously got paid 105,000) traveling to and from france, befriending a particular local to try for a baby, and kenda (my female sim) is still not pregnant. i've invited him to town, sooo here's hoping to a pregnancy by way of touring the movie theater

Orkihd, it's a well-known bug from the game. Sometimes, you've a lot of money from an unknown source.. I have had the same thing in my game. What I've done is buy some furniture for the same amount and let them in the family inventory. 105.000 simflouzes is a lot of money but if you want to keep this challenge's spirit, you'll have to remove it..

i see. thaks mimi! i have to be honest. i dont even know half of the bugs that are reportedly apart of the sims world. i only recently started playing sims..august of this year..sims 2 and quickly bought everything..became addicted. and after reading the orginal posting of the "random legacy challage" and reading everyone's blogs i ran out and bought sims 3. i am definitly learning something EVERYDAY. and its fine about the whole money thing. i'm starting the whole challange over, re-rolling and everything. i've tried for 3 sim weeks and my sim isnt getting pregnant. and she's an adult and needs to have 4 children. which sucks cause i liked her look. i'mma delete and start over.

Are you using the "try for baby" option, rather than "woohoo"? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I have never had that much trouble getting a pregnancy. O.O I think my record for most tries without getting a baby is three. You just have them "try for baby" until you hear the little rock-a-by tune play.
My latest bug lately, if it can be called that, is the game freezing upon zoom-ins and outs. I rolled a gem collector and it's making it impossible for him to do his job (decided to just keep playing as I have been). Time to snoop around the help section... D=

NutsandDolts, it's my latest bug too. I had the same troubles with the gem collector a few hours ago. I sent my sims to China to collect gems, but no stones anywhere, even with the collector. I think it's a bug of Late Night, because I've never had this issue before and my sims had never travelled since I installed LN.. I've no problems with the gem collector in Bridgeport

Nuts and Dolts! hola.. i've never had a prolem getting a sim preggers, and since i added the mod that allows for oopsie baby, in my other families i've gotten unexpected pregnancies simply from woohooing. everytime she woohoos i actually click on "try for baby". it's actually gotten to the point where i've "tried for baby" with her husband just to see if he could get her pregnant and nope nada. (no i'm not spanish but for some reason i love to say "hi" in spanish, and i say "nothing" in spanish, and when talking to people face to face i say "thanks" in italian.. i'm crazy i know) ok back to the challange.. so i honestly do not know why i cannot get her pregnant. i'm playing in twinbrook. first time really playing in this neighborhood. i prefer sunset valley. and i just found out there was a neighborhood called riverview. got that one downloaded, and just started playing randomly there last night. so far havent tried for a baby, and oopsie baby hasnt gotten her pregnant yet either. so who knows whats up.
another question about multi-cultural.. couldn't it work if she had a baby by her husband, and then the other 3 (since i rolled 4 children) by a frenchman, chinaman, egyptman? because technically that's still 4 different cultures. if not i'm going to find a way to turn her husband vampire, and then they can have a baby.
and last another question..(i hope not to have to ask another question, i apologize for inundating yall with question after question) how do u introduce vampires to the neighborhood? i'm playing with tawallin (geez i hope i spelt that correctly) story progression, and i currently do not have any vampires, that i'm aware of, in my neighborhood.
calisims
5th Jan 2011, 09:39 PM
My understanding of the multicultural is that all the children can have the same parents, it's just that one parent must be from another culture, or supernatural.
To get vampires into your town, you can copy some of the Bridgeport vampires into the bin and move them to your town.
You probably can turn some of your neighbors into vampires with master controller. I haven't checked for that, so I'm not sure of that.
Or there are probably some vampires for download if you want custom vamps.
NutsAndDolts
5th Jan 2011, 09:53 PM
Yep, you can change anyone into a vampire with MasterController. Just look around until you find "occult," and it allows you to select what lifeform the sim is.
My boyfriend had me test this on a very dark-skinned sim, because some vampires get REALLY pale. x.x
I'm not having trouble finding the gems or insects, it's just that the game freezes if I zoom in close to the ground, then zoom out to see basically the edit town view, then zoom in again. Not sure what's up. Maybe my graphics card can't take it... but... it hasn't given me a problem until now.
mimi250

My game freezes too, when I zoom too much, particularly in France when my heir is at the moment.. I haven't got the same troubles in France than in China.. All gems and stones show on the map, and the locals wear local clothes (in China, they wear normal clothes)..
For my awesome goal, I wanted to create a collection of gems (with all cuts available). But with a so small apartment (and also because some gems are particulary difficult to find) I've decided to create a collection of skull cuts gems.. I need at least 5 different cuts of the same gem to have a skull.. it's the reason why I send my heir to travel in different foreign places.. But I've noticed, after each travel, that the size of my save file has increased a lot (from 83 to 93 Mb when I went to China and 105 to 131Mb with Fance). The errors 12 are not so far now (even if LN has been made LAA by EA) and I think that adding local neighboroods can quickly make the game unplayables..
I've 2 another questions about the rules:
-1) If I move my family in a new neighborood, can I use mastercontroller to give them the same level careers than the ones they had previously?
-2) Are we allowed to use antivampire potion with vampires? I'm tired to see them drinking only plasma and I'd want to let down vampires at generation 4..
calisims
6th Jan 2011, 12:45 PM
Since there are no rules about either of those questions, I guess it's up to us to figure that out.
In my opinion, yes to both. The error 12 thing is a major fault of the game, and if we have to move to fix it, we should be able to pick up where we left off in our careers.
Also, we should be able cure our vampires after the multi-cultural generation is over.
ETA: I just remembered, when I tested out Bridgeport, I moved the Calientes from Barnacle Bay there, and they still had their jobs. If you put a copy of your family in the bin, they keep their jobs and relationships with each other. They also keep things in their inventory, so you can take your gem collection with you.
If you make clones of them for CAS they don't keep anything.

Thanks calisims, but are you talking about a copy of a family with or without the house? I haven't tried yet.. but I'll move my family without the house (too tiny)

By body and face, all the family is "Hemlock". Shepard's part is only the hair color (sighs).
Anthony will become YA in 5 days. His goals are: single parent/ 2 kids/ Criminal career (thief)/ Change of scenery and Hands off. He is evil, athletic, flirty and kleptomaniac.. I've almost never used this last trait. So it's fun to see him coming back from school with so many stolen items. For the moment, I bring them back to their owners.. but I think I'll tend later to keep them to decorate the house.
Emmy died quickly after Kelly became toddler. She was 92 or 93 years old. Generation 1 is now all over.

As I've said above, I'm trying to have all skulls cuts of gems. So my sims went to China first (Andy and his wife), and after in France (Andy alone) in order to find these stones. In Bridgeport I use the minor which helps finding very rare and particular gems. But it's tiring and stressing for my sims, and unfortunately, the martial arts object (the one which produce stones when your sim breaks boards) doesn't work in Bridgeport. In China, like in France, they were followed by paparazzi even in bed, it was even worth than in Bridgeport. Another annoying part of the game..

I can't stand celebrities. I used master controller to get rid of several that spawned in my town (Riverview), and I turn down all opportunities from the mysterious agent.
I didn't actually get rid of the celebrities, I should say... I just used MasterController to set their celebrity level to 0, so they couldn't infect anyone else. Now that I have a story progression mod in, I don't think the neighbors are being randomly celebrified anymore. The first generation batch are dead.
For a while I just had my sims avoid all contact with celebrities, but it became impossible because the game would give them a celebrity for a boss at work. x.x
But what I did might be... well... against the spirit of the rules since this challenge is "a Late Night spin off" and celebrities are a big part of Late Night.

I think what you did is fine, NutsAndDolts. I'm using the same story progression and all my first generation celebrities have died out as well.
I thought it was totally stupid that my 1st generation unemployed spouse should get celebrity status from doing an opportunity to give some of her vegetables to a minor teenage celebrity.
My town currently has 0 celebrities. My next generation heir has to go into the acting career, so I may use master controller to give some celebrity status to Sims who are already high in the film, music and sports careers.
I'm not looking forward to the return of the paparazzi on my porch all the time though. I had one who must have had the loser trait, she was constantly out on the porch sobbing. It was really annoying when all my family was asleep, all I could hear was that annoying sobbing.

few questions about living green

Calisims, your twins are cute and it seems that except their hair color and eyes, they are identical twins.
I can understand you find the photograph's career dull. For my part, I'm beginning to find the gem collections absolutely boring. It's not really interesting to be always outside, searching for gems, and gems, to find always the same ugly stones.. It's the reason why I think that it'll be better to give a list of things that can be considered "awesome". We had already talked about this in the tigger's topic. But if others are agree, we could try to make a list of "awesome" things.. the whole thing will be less confused in my opinion, and challengers won't have to search too much for something awesome enough
calisims
7th Jan 2011, 11:41 PM
Thanks, mimi. The twins aren't quite identical. It's hard to see in the pics I have, but in profile you can see a difference in their nose shape. Roslyn has a small, upturned nose like Misty's father (I don't have any pics of him to show). Allyson's nose will be larger, possibly like her father's. They also have different eye colors. Roslyn has Shadows blue-gray eyes, and Allyson's are the same green color as Cameron's.
I'm up for coming up with a list of suggestions for the awesome requirement.
Building a community lot is awesome, especially for later generations who have saved up a lot of cash.
I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, I have never rolled that one and always figured I'd do a community lot of some kind if I ever did. But I'll try to think up some more.

I've been sending my collector to Egypt. He finds gems in the tombs to transform (that may be against the rules too? since he didn't roll adventurer x.x), when I get tired of not finding the ones I want on the ground. Also managed to snag two Cleopatra Butterflies, but they're too cool to sell... ...actually I haven't sold anything he's created yet. His generation also rolled "expansionist", so once I finally figured out where the stairs to the basement would go, I gave him a massive study full of display cases. I'm on a collection mission.
Tomb raiding without cheats is a pain in the backside, though. I've actually not seen most of the tombs in France or Egypt, and this is my excuse for getting Egypt out of the way. The visuals in WA are spectacular.
My generation 4 was born today and I didn't roll anything exciting. Maybe I'll get more excited about it by the time that generation takes over.
Edit: Lionel's octopus is awesome.

I'm stoked that Lionel finished the octopus before he died. I knew he could go any time, so I had him tied to that every waking moment until he finished. I wanted it for the collection in the yard.
It's okay to collect whatever you want & go exploring in tombs, you just can't sell anything you find unless that is your rolled career.

I am having a lot of fun with this challenge so far. Its perfect for me because it takes a lot of the decision making out of my hands and just lets me try different things.
My first generation was for a ghost hunter, which was new for me, whose wife had a part time job... but I also rolled for it to be a broken home, so I had them divorce which made the second income kind of irrelevant. They had two kids and thankfully rolled for change of scenery, which was great because I was playing them in Bridgeport. Trying to fit a legacy family in a starter apartment is almost cruel. The kids were forced to sleep in the living room, which sucked because the daughter was technophobic, so no one could watch television while she was at home.
I moved them to Polly Maloney's apartment, which is extremely large for the price. But now, in the second generation, I'm probably going to fail because the apartment is just not great for parties. The living room is too small. I've had two other parties trying to fulfill their goal to have an epic party, and all I've gotten is an epic failure. What usually happens is that the sims crowd in front of the door, but don't come in. I could have celebrities, performers, nectar, birthdays AND deaths happening (both parties had someone die) and it still wouldn't be enough.
That's okay though. I'm okay with failing this generation. I know I should technically start over, but I'm attached now. I'm not quitting yet.
Thanks so much for writing this challenge, and thanks to the other person for updating it. I also tweaked it with some of the other things other posters suggested on the original thread for the random legacy challenge.

. Trying to fit a legacy family in a starter apartment is almost cruel..
I am agree. Even the houses in Bridgeport are small  ..
Calisims, at first I wanted to create a museum. But the price of the empty lot was.. 81.000 simoleons. It's a huge non-sense. So I let his idea down.
My heir (generation 3) became YA. He wants to reach the level 10 of the thief career. He will have to be a single parent of 2 children. I'm a bit tired to play with vampires.. it's not so fun. The only thing really exciting is that they learn skills very quickly (less than 5 real minutes to reach level 10 of any skills). But drinking only plasmas, befriending people to be allowed to drink their blood, and staying inside houses all the day (because they don't stand sun when their bodies are exposed more than 3 hours) is annoying after a moment. And they have a long long life.. Wogan Hemlock lives again in Bridgeport. He's always an adult, and his grand-son is a YA now..
It's the reason why I'll make Anthony drink the antivampire potion. He's in love with a young girl he have met at school. Her name is Snooty Pants. She's a bit older than him, and she is snob, like everyone in her family. She's already engaged with a guy called Vladimir.. So I've an idea of a little story to create, as I would want her to be the mother of Anthony's childrens.

LOL, a girl named Snooty Pants wearing a coconut bra...
Buying community lots is expensive, so that would be awesome for later generations who have a lot of money, but for earlier generations with less cash to spare, we need something awesome that doesn't cost so much. I like Flanah's idea of doing portraits. I haven't ben able to think of much else besides making collections of things, which you already thought of.
Personally, I find some of the goals and misc. fun things to be kind of pointless, like hoarder, because it doesn't add anything to the challenge. With the awesome, it's a great seed of an idea, but it's not fleshed out much and people can pretty much do whatever they want.
mimi250
8th Jan 2011, 02:50 PM
Calisims, I was thinking a few minutes ago that I will let down a few things in the goals.. I know it's not really conventional, but I am agree with you when you say that there are things that don't add anything to the challenge. "Hoarder", "partier", or "Hands" off for instance.. not only they add anything to the challenge, but they contribute to make it more boring and stressing.. I don't play a game to be stressed, just to have fun .. And I like my families, so I don't want to let them down only because I'd forgot that I'm not allowed to sell a sofa, or to do a party at the end of the week..(I don"t really like parties in the game, particulary with the apartments which are too small for that). In fact, we can consider that I've failed the challenge, because I forgot that "hands off" means I was not allowed to make them cleaning the house and I sent Anthony doing the laundry :wtf: .. It'd be a bit stupid I think.
Moreover, with hands off, I had to reorganize things in the house because I moved Snooty in my family's apartment.. It was very hard to replace things and furniture without opening the family inventories. My head was burning to find a suitable place for a simple endtable:faceslap:
It'd be nice if severedsolo and the other challengers could give their opinion about these goals.. maybe they could be changed or cancelled, if everyone is agree.
Moreover, I had suspected that a few stones had disappeared in my game. I don't know if it's a late night glitch or not, but the fact is that I have gems and stone disappearing from the house, I don"t know why.. I had created the citrine skull cut and exposed it on the dining table.. A few minutes later, no more gem anywhere.. the same thing had happened previously with various other gems. So I consider now that I've completed the "Awesome" skull cuts goal, even if I haven't got all the skull cuts available. I had taken a lot of time to collect these rare gems and I have all types of them in the inventories. It's now sufficient for me..
PS: what does "snooty pants" mean in english?
calisims
8th Jan 2011, 04:08 PM
A snooty pants is a snobby person.
With the Hands Off, you can direct the Sims to clean up, you just can pick things up yourself with your mouse hand.
I'm also dropping some of the goals and restrictions when I roll, like hoarder, which is totally pointless. It would be great if we could all come up with some new ones, too. I'll try to think of some.
severedsolo hasn't been around since the holidays, I'm sure he's busy. But we've all been adjusting the rules since the beginning and playing with alternate rules. I like lytefoot's family rules so I use those even though they aren't official, so I think it would be fine for us to abandon some of the old goals and misc. fun and try to make new ones.
I agree with you about your gem collection being sufficently awesome. That's a lot of work to collect what you did, and really sad the game made them disappear. I've never even seen a skull cut, lol.

when Gwyneth got her house in a descent-enough shape all she wanted to do was to throw a party and she invited everyone she ever met , she was new in town and hated not knowing anyone and wasn't planing to stay an outsider, one of the girls she invited came with this red-haired guy and left without him
http://en.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-937.jpg (http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-937.php)
Gwyneth didn't remember anything next morning when she woke up next to him , he thanked her for the party and left and she never saw him again.. as her two babies (yea random twins :'( ) was forming inside her all she could think about their father was "Connon.. Connor.. ?!"

few months later *cough*three sim-days* , Alwyn a disciplined athletic baby boy and his light-sleeper artistic sister Briallen was born both are toddlers now ^^

I've finally caught up and patched up and installed up. So I'm ready to tackle the new rules!
I really like the rolling for the heir idea. I usually just pick one kid with the most interesting attributes. Like Gen 6 I had a kid with purple eyes. Had to come from daddy's side because my whole legacy (and the spares) has had nothing but black hair and gray eyes. Unfortantly he's the first born so I have two spares to get rid of.
I've had "awesome" a few times, and it was hard at first to think of something "awesome," so I think a list would have helped me a lot. Both times I did something that I don't usually do or had never done.
The first being to max out and complete all the challenges associated with a given skill (I only did one skill, but you could always do more if you felt inclined). Usually I just max the skill and forget about the challenges. The second time I bulldozed and rebuilt my house from scratch without money cheats. Which I'm pretty sure I've never done in my entire Sims history.

Flanah, congratulations for your twins :mod: , it's very hard to have
twins of different genders. It happened to me only one time (in my previous random legacy challenge).
Whitewater, I like your idea to max all challenges of any skill. I'll keep this idea for the next time. But build and rebuild the family house is already in the goals (change of scenery)
I've had an idea to replace the "hoarder" or "hands off" miscellanous goals;
- 9) Replace all your old furniture by the most expensive objects (same kind but the higher price in the buy mode). You'll have to save much money for that, but money is not a problem for you, is it?
And instead of having a "Flipper" career which didn't sound interesting at all, we could have this one (to replace the awesome goal for example or to add to the list of goals in the E section)
-10) Start a powerful business center and buy parts in each rabbit holes in town. You don't have to be the owner, only a partner.
My generation 4 is born in my game. I had moved Snooty in the apartment. Anthony and her had had sex in a elevator, and at this time she was pregnant. As I didn't want Anthony to search again for a suitable second mother for his second child, I gave him the fertility treatment.. I thought I would have had twins, because I had given this treatment to only one parent.. but in fact Snooty gave birth to triplets
Here are Penny, Polly and Phoebe
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-407.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-407.php)
Polly is my heir (I had rolled the second child). She's brave and neurotic.
Phoebe is evil and I don"t remember the second trait
Penny (the first born) is friendly and couch potato
Generation 4 goals are: Adoptive single parent/ 2 kids/ Medical career/ Awesome (again)/ No strangers
Snooty has had an happy pregnancy. So I was able to choose the traits of all the babies. But I had let down the "hands off" goal and replaced it by "random traits". So, their traits haven't been chosen by me.
I don't want to think about the nightmare it will be to raise these 3 little girl lol.. Fortunately, I haven't got the perfect kid goal
I had replaced Snooty's hair and clothes to make her more attractive. She's engaged with another boy in town. It's a good thing she has to leave because the house is definitely too small, and Anthony's change of scenery goal will occur soon.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-3980.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-3980.php)
Snooty is a very snob woman. Her LTW is "Gold digger". She's always talking (and even dreaming during her sleep) about money and diamonds. She was fascinated when Anthony talked to her about his family's gems collection. But when she moved at the Shepard's apartment, she realized there was nothing to be really impressed.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-4001.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-4001.php)
Except for a pink diamond skull cut, all other gems were just a few shiny stones without any important value. Moreover, she had to live in a tiny place (I was not even able to put a double bed for the couple in the flat, so I put 2 individual beds in Anthony's bedroom). Having her reputation decreased by living with vampires (not rich at all) and 3 babies to raise now is a bit too much for her.. and the fact that Anthony has (finally) drunk the antipotion vampire won't change anything to her.

mimi, I love Snooty Pants' new hair and clothes, it totally suits her.
My Misty also dreams of diamonds and money piles all the time (she's a snob, too), but she is more satisfied with her situation, she achieved her LTW of living in the lap of luxury, so her snobbiness is satisfied.
I like your idea of replacing all the furniture, I would just make it so you have a choice of the highest quality furnishings, not necessarily the very top one, since it might not suit your (or your Sims) style. So, you could choose one of the top 3 sofas rather than be stuck with one choice.
I like the other suggestion as well, to be partners in all the rabbit holes, and whitewater's suggestion of completing all the challenges in a skill.
And thank you fort posting a pic of the skull cut, I had never seen one before.
mimi250

Ypu're welcome, calisims... to have the skull cuts, you've to use at least 5 cuts of the same gem (I've read that in MTS gameply guide). But I always used more than 5 cuts
And you're right. The highest quality furnishing is a better idea ..I will use this goal to replace "hands off" or "hoarder" in miscellanous section. ;)

Wow your twins are adorable, flanah! I didn't realize you could get twins of different genders until just today, when my second generation spare's daughter had them. At first I even thought it was a glitch.

There are my adventures... to a point. Sacha is grown up now, married and with child.
I acknowledge in my first post that I broke a rule, but continued because I felt I still stayed within the spirit of the challenge, and have turned down enough opportunities to atone for the small amount of simoleons I gained from rule breaking. If it's bad form to blog about my "cheating," I won't mention it again. ;)

Question!!
In the case of Couples, does the heir have to be born to the wife of the founder?
I rolled Couple and Multi-Cultural for Gen 1, and they've had two sons. Kid number 4 is the lucky heir, although he doesn't exist yet. The wife is pregnant with another, but my male founder Woohoo'd with a female ghost (descended from a line of playable ghosts), and I'm pretty sure she's preggers. Will the ghost's baby count as the fourth child, and therefore the heir? What if one of them has twins?(!)

If you exceed the number of children you need via accidental twins or triplets, that's fine, because it was out of your control (though trying to influence multiple births is probably against the spirit of the thing).
I don't see anything in the rules against cheating on the partner. In fact, one of the extra challenges commands you to make half-siblings, and if you rolled couple... well... yeah. So I think you could have the kids with whoever, as long as you keep the one spouse or unmarried partner around to help raise the children produced. You may have to move the ghost woman in temporarily so you can take control of your heir.

That's what I was hoping, I just wasn't sure if the illegitimate kids would only apply in the case of Half-Siblings. Thank you! ^_^ My founder, Charles, is a great father, but he tests my patience when I give him max free will. Trying to snack on his clients is common. >.>;

Eight pieces of any smelted metal when placed on the large display case will produce that metal in large form. =)
You can also make giant gems in the same way. 8 Brilliant Cut Diamonds will make a giant one. You can get other interesting results as well... and some annoying ones.
I recommend saving before the activation in case anything goes wrong.

I've re-worked the rules for category E and F
E. Generation Goal (Roll between 1 and 12)- Add "business center" (12)
1) Perfect Children All sim children must age up perfectly(with the exception of pregnancy, which is a bit random and out of your control). In addition, they must have maxed skills on the toddler and child toys. Specifically, they must have obtained all 3 levels on the peg box toy, xylophone, toy oven and play table, and have read all 9 toddler skill books(jimmy sprocket is not required). Also, as a teen, they must have obtained level 3 in a part time career(though they may quit the career before graduation). Note that it is not required to have all positive traits, but only to have had the option to choose all but the first two.
2) Perfect Careers All careers and jobs for the heir(and the spouse, if applicable) must be raised to the highest level. In addition, all skills related to that career must be level 10. For example, if one sim is in the military career and the other is a sculptor, they must both have level 10 in their careers and the one sim must have maxed sculpting and the other maxed athletics and handiness. If one of your sims is a Job Hopper, they don't have to do anything special. If this doesn't apply to either of your adult sims(ie, one is an adventurer and the other has no career, or they both are job hoppers), then re-roll for this category.
3) Expansionist Put at least one major expansion onto your house during this generation. Examples of expansions include a new nursery with space for all the toddler toys and an attached outdoor playground, a guest apartment for the previous generation elders to live in, or an artist's retreat with room for painters, sculptors and drafters to practice their art.
4) Fulfilled Both your heir and their spouse(if applicable) must obtain their LTW. Changing the LTW via aspiration reward is allowed.
5) AWESOME! - You must accomplish something really awesome, preferably related to your heir's career or traits, though miscellaneous awesome is allowed. Examples of this include creating a sim bot, putting together a complete gallery of all Egyptian relics, finding and displaying all gems, bugs, or metals in the game, etc. Use your imagination I'm sure there's something you can find to do. If you're blogging or otherwise writing a story about your sim family, make sure to mention the awesome you got up to.
6) A Party To Remember - Throw an epic party at your home lot with the following qualities:
* At least five guests
* Live entertainment - A sim performing a song on the guitar, or successful snake charming(if you have world adventures).
* A three-course meal - Appetizer, main course and dessert, all of at least very nice quality, laid out buffet style. You may cook these in advance, just serve them from the fridge. You may use the hand of god in this one instance, even if you're otherwise restricted from doing so
* A steady flow of drinks - You must serve very nice or better nectar if you have world adventures, otherwise serve juice.
* Drama - A breakup, a marriage, a death, a new baby, a birthday...the options are infinite, and only limited by your imagination. If you choose to throw a birthday or wedding party instead of a house party, the wedding or aging up counts for this category.
7) Living Green - Must live eco-consciously. These restrictions take effect when the heir of the generation they're rolled for becomes a young adult, and continues until the next generation's heir reaches young adulthood.
* Must never take taxis. Carpooling to work or using the fire engine is ok, but sims must bike at all other times. If a sim takes a taxi, that's ok, but cancel the action and give them whatever bike they'd lost asap. Sims caught out without a bike must walk or jog until they arrive at a lot where you can give them a bike.
* Must use an eco-friendly laundry system. This consists of the expensive washing machine and a clothesline(no dryer allowed!). You may have multiple washing machines and clotheslines.
* Must grow your own produce and fish your own fish. You may purchase meat, dairy, eggs, etc from the store, but nothing that you can normally grow in your own garden or fish out of water. Cake and baked goods from the toy oven are okay to eat. Your sim doesn't have to eat organic or vegetarian food, normal food is ok, as long as you've grown the produce yourself.
* Must not waste fuel flying around the world. Your sims may only take one vacation per week.
* If your sim invents, you may not purchase scrap. You must salvage it on your own.
* You may not purchase 'new' furniture via the buy mode this generation, with the exception of bikes, bike racks, and your eco-friendly laundry system. You must obtain it 'used' from the junkyard, or steal it from community lots and other homes. The exception is if you are playing generation 1, in which case you may purchase as many beds, cribs and hampers as necessary, all toddler/child toys, one fridge, one oven, two sinks, one toilet, one shower and one counter. There are no restrictions on build mode.
* Your sim must either create a new park/nature-themed lot from scratch, or improve significantly upon an existing lot. In both cases, the sim must fund the project by subtracting the cost of the improvements or entire lot from the family funds.
8)Deadbeat Parents - Opposite of Perfect Children. Do NOT potty train, teach to walk or teach to talk any toddlers. Do NOT read any toddler books to them. You must not be given the choice to choose any traits, apart from those during pregnancy, as they are a bit random and beyond your control.
9) 5 Star Celebrity - Your heir must become a household name and obtain a glittering 5 star celebrity status. (ONLY the heir needs to do this.)
10) Change of Scenery: Your Sim is fed up of the same 4 walls and wants to move. Either:
1. Delete everything in your house which isnt Sim made or from a vacation world. and build a new house from scratch.
2. Place a prebuilt house somewhere in your town and move into it.
3. Move into an existing house in your town.
4. Move your Sims to a new town. If you choose this option, then for neighbourhood continuity reasons your Sims may NOT move into a town your legacy has already lived in.
11) Death Eater: Your Sim yearns to learn the secret of Immortality. At some point in their lives, the Heir (and Spouse if applicable) wants to eat Ambrosia. Each Sim may ONLY eat one portion of Ambrosia.
12) Start a powerful business center and buy parts in each rabbit holes in town. You don't have to be the owner, only at least a partner.
F. Miscellaneous Fun (Roll between 1 and 9)- "Hands-off" modified and "Hoarder" replaced by "Luxury"
1) Hands Off - You may not sell anything directly in the inventories until your heir become YA. If you need to sell items for your career, you may only sell them by the consignment store (the store allows you to sell gadgets, fruits & vegetables, fishes, photographies, nectar, sculpture, books, paintings and gems). This rule applies only on things youre allowed to sell (for example, if your sim is in the criminal career, he wont be able to sell his own paintings or farm products). Reroll if you havent got Ambitions EP
3) Runs in the Family Pick a trait randomly. Every sim born this generation(see the definition in Random above) must have this trait before reaching young adulthood.
4) No Strangers You may not call any service sims to the lot. This includes pizza delivery sims and babysitters; if both of your sims have to work, tough!
5) Partier You must throw at least one party every sim week(sunday am-saturday pm).
6) Homemade - Your sims must only eat cooked dishes(no quick meals), and they can only cook a dish if they have the required ingredients in the refrigerator. In addition, they must harvest all produce and fish all fish on their own(it's allowed to harvest from community lots). You may purchase meat, eggs, etc(and milk, rice, etc if you're using a better ingrediants mod) from the store. You may eat food cooked with the toy oven, but may not eat cake or raw ingredients(if your sim does so autonomously you don't lose, but cancel the action the best you can).
7) Multi-Cultural - All children born to this generation(the children born at the time you roll this will be the parents) must be from another culture, or combination of cultures. Re-roll if you're supposed to adopt. For additional flavor, try to use items from different cultures when choosing outfits for your sims, and for decorating your home this generation. Monsters, (ghosts, vampires etc.) count as a different culture for the purposes of this rule.
8) Half-Siblings - No two pregnancies or individual adoptions this generation may be with the same partner. Re-roll if you only need one child.
9) Luxury- Replace all your old furniture by the highest quality in the catalog . You'll have to save much money for that, but money is not a problem for you, is it?

Stoney Falls looks pretty neat!
The only gnomes my family is missing are the vampire one (I love how incredibly evil she looks, but I prefer my teddies intact), the sculptor one (hopefully I'll have a sculptor in the family at some point to rectify this), and the French one (one generation will get to conquer France; current one is on Egypt). Also missing the celebrity one, but I hate celebrities so forget that.
I think if I roll 5 star celebrity, I'm just going to re-roll. There's a point where "challenge" becomes "absolutely no fun," and for me that's celebrities. =(

ok i seriously need help. i have started and restarted this challange probably 10 times. i typically play on epic, so in other words.. i have plenty of time. playing on normal i'm finding it damn near IMPOSSIBLE to keep my sims in a happy mood, or find any time for free time. if anyone has any tips, please throw them at me. i'm open for EVERY suggestion, point of view. anything. i'm in serious need of help. i even re-rolled, started a new family, and nope..cant keep them happy.
is it best to wait until my YA (founder family i believe is the word for them) to become fully mature (adult) before i start introducing children, so that they spend their YA days making money?
my current roll is adopative family, 4 kids, primary income political science, secondary income is part time job, and AWESOME.
i cant get my sims to advance in careers, and i barely get the children trained let alone read any books before they age to child.
thanks everyone in advance, and i love reading everyone's stories. just wish i had one

In my opinion, you're just rolling too many children on generation 1. My tips are to pick traits that won't hurt your sims' mood, and wait to have children... wait until the parents have advanced in their careers, at least to level 5-7 (though part-timers only get to level 3).
Have all the basics to keep them happy. You need a decent shower, bed, and fridge, so they don't get crappy moodlets associated with the worst of these items. You need a basic toilet and a place to prepare meals. You need their fun levels to stay rather high... a high fun level ("having a blast!") often counters other negative moodlets. If at all possible, make sure your sim's fun level is all the way up before they go to work, and make sure they aren't hungry or tired. Being completely clean just before work also gives a good moodlet that lasts a long time.
Video games on the computer are what I always use to raise fun quickly, but there are probably better ways.
If you go with your most recent role, have the part-timer learn skills such as handiness so they can fix all of the objects that break in the house. Things break and they break often! With enough handiness, you can make them unbreakable... though I usually choose "self-cleaning" because without a "Neat" sim, the grime in the house can quickly spiral out of control and make all the sims angry.
If you need friends at work, check the dropdown box on your sim's action queue for interactions like "hang out with coworkers" instead of "business as usual".
Hope that helps?
I just finished a mammoth blog entry. At least, I felt like it was as I was compiling it. All of my pics were out of order, so I had to put them in order. =(

First off, it amazes me that you can play on epic! I'd proabably wind up killing them off cause they started boring me. lol.
I'm probably the worst person to offer help because I'm not sure if how I play can be considered cheating (I'll explain shortly). For me a legacy gives me something to do with my game, I got bored just playing without a purpose. This gives me a purpose, and usually I can craft some crazy scenario to go with it.
With that being said, I'll offer my ideas.
On the first founding generation, since you are adopting the rules state you should have one YA. Create them. (Here's where I think I might be cheating) Since s/he is in the political science career, I would give him/her traits that help influence the skills you need in politics like Schmoozer, Charismatic and Friendly. Then something to help you raise kids like family orentied or soemthing to help you find a mate like hopeless romantic or good kisser. I would probably choose Leader of the Free World just because it's tied in to your job or Super Popular might help once you get into the Charisma skill. (however your lucky that you didn't roll fulfill the LTW, then that would be a whole nother issue. But since you didn't I would just focus on getting them as high as you can before you start having kids. You don't have to max his/her career unless you want too).
Ok so move from CAS to the world. I think we are lucky that for this challenge, we aren't forced onto any spot of land. I would probably choose a lot either close to town (low transportation time) or something on the ocean (if your in Sun Set Valley-- This one gives you a beautiful vista moodlet). I'd build a SMALL studio house on my land. Something just large enough for a GOOD bed, a kitchen area, and and entertainment area (although at this moment I'd only worry about the bed, a counter/fridge/stove, and a bathroom) If you have the money, close off your bathroom, if not just leave it in the corner... its just you for now anyways.

After getting a house fixed up (and getting your job)... go to the library.. spend one or two days straight learning the skills for the political science career (I think charisma is the biggie). Id also learn a bit of cooking while I was at it.
Stereos also have a nice little moodlet.
So my next thing would be to talk to people. Go to the park and "spouse hunt." Talking to people also helps build your charisma. so just chat. Once you have learned 50 traits of others, you'll start finding out other people traits more often (I usually combine this with the observant reward).
I would probably go ahead and marry right now (once I find someone I like), just for the extra income, and not to mention woohooing seems to be a great way to build fun.
Once you have established yourself in your job, then I would do like you said, start making and raising babies!
I would also just make sure the 3 core skills are learned as toddlers (walking, talking, and potty). The books and stuff are great but not necessary unless you have perfect child (as far as I know).
I dont have much experience with adoptions, but are you required to adopt babies? Can you not just skip to kids? I did when I rolled it, but is that required?
This is purely how I would do it, it may not be the best (or "legal") way to do things. But it's definetly easier oncs you get past that first generation. So good luck, happy simming, and hopefully I'll get to read your story soon.

When you get adoptive children in this challenge, you can choose to adopt any ages of children (unless you rolled perfect children, which you luckily did not). So, you can go ahead and adopt a child or even a teen rather than a toddler, which helps a lot.
With your roll, I would give the secondary income Sim the Handy trait and have them learn handiness skill right away. Not only does having a repair person help, but you will start rolling wishes to upgrade stuff once you get that rolling. Like NutsAndDolts, I usually choose the self-cleaning upgrade. Once you've repaired enough (I think it's 10 or 15) plumbing objects, the next time you repair the object is made unbreakable anyway (check the handiness skill challenges for info on this).
Have the part-timer start a little garden, too (The Loves the Outdoors or Green Thumb traits are good for this.) It save you money on food, improves your food quality once you grow better quality produce, and also gets gardening wishes rolling.
Since you are playing a couple, keep in mind that woohoo fills the fun bar rather quickly for 2 Sims at once. Very efficient, lol.

Orkhid, here is a bug in the last game patch: the sims are not able to keep a good mood because the moodlet 'well-rested" causes troubles. It's the most current trouble linked to the last patch.. It's the reason why I haven't installed it

A few hours after giving birth to these 3 cutes babies, Snooty realized that she was not ready at all to live in this tiny flat with 3 vampires and 3 babies screaming in her head all days. Moreover, she was the target of a new scandal in town, asserting she had given birth to illegitimate childrens. Her whole snob family was devastated, and her mother didn't talk to her anymore.. She was too young to cope with such a burden. Her fiancι Vladimir was in love yet, despite of this "little fault" and she fell in his arms when he went to visit her..

Of course, Anthony was devastated. Particularly because she was at the point to let him alone raise 3 babies. She was a mother now.. how about her babies? But Snooty wasn't ready for that. She left the house the same day.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-4180.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-4180.php)
Anthony miss her a lot. But he has no time to cry on his broken-heart now. He loves his children and spend a lot of time with her, even taking sometimes days off to be sure he won't neglect them for a career.

I wanted the family to move just after the births. But I've a flood of money since 2 days. The cityhall wants Andy to deliver 10 paintings, and I know by experience that this opportunity is really lucrative. I've started to settle a house in Barnacle, and I need funds to buy it

Nice update, mimi. I love the triplets, they are adorable.
And it's true about the well-rested moodlet since the latest patch. You need a really high quality bed for the moodlet to work properly and not crash your mood. So, if you are patched, you need too get a really good bed ASAP. The cheap bed will make your Sim miserable.

thanks everyone for the tips! i didnt know i could adopt older children. that will help alot. i actually got inspired and about an hour or so after i last posted (because i'm sick at home with a terrible cold, other than walking my newly acquired pup, i have plenty of time to play) i went back and started all over. i kept my CAS created lipstick lesbians. and just started the entire game over.
instead of giving them a baby on day one, i decided from the start i'd le them go two sim weeks before adding in the adoptive kids. and boy am i glad i did. it gave my political sim time to level up her carisma. and she got advanced to level 2 on the first day on the job. by the end of the first sim week she was up to level 3 and midway thru sim week 2 she's up to level 5 almost level 6! yes finally i feel like i have control.
my part time sim has even leveled up to level 2 in her job
and yes when i orginally created them in CAS i did stack the deck in my favor. i gave the political sim these traits: family oriented, friendly, charisma, schmoozer, hmm and one other. and i gave the second sim : handy, family oriented, great cook, neurotic, hopless romantic. she keeps the house running smoothly. neurotic is almost as good as neat b/c she always wants to make the bed, and clean the dishes, and clean the sink etc.
i'm also taking yall tips into the game. i've been taking pics. and someone (i apoligize i forgot who) left instructions on how to put pics up on here. so i'll have pics soon of the house i built, and of the lipstick lesbians (well my idea of what they should look like) and our soon to be adoptive kids.
quick question.. how do you get pics of the children and older sims while they are in CAS?
once again, thanks to everyone for the tips. pics to come soon

I'm going to start this one in a separate neighborhood from my other challenges! Yay! I've already rolled up the whole ten generations... just my way, I like to do it that way. This family is pretty into show biz -- the first three generations have either musicians or actors for their heirs! I'm planning on making the first child in any generation the heir, which should keep it tidy.
Pics up as soon as I have the family created. :)

Hi
The last evening, I moved my family to Barnacle Bay, in a house I've downloaded on a fan site. I love this house, it has a beautiful garden, full of roses and a pool on the back.. I'll have to furnish it, as it came unfurnished..I wanted to delete the LN private fence, but I noticed that it keeps paparazzi far from my sims. Of course they are all celebrities and they can enjoy now their home life without being disturbed by anyone.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-4300.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-4300.php)
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-4320.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-4320.php)
In Bridgeport, the opportunity to sell paintings at the cityhall never worked (because of a well-known LN bug which forbid opportunities to be completed in a few rabbit holes) As they hadn't got enough funds to buy their new house in Barnacle, I was forced to sell their apartment in Bridgeport with all the cut gems inside. I didn't know at all if I was allowed to do that (I haven't got any gems collector in the family), but I supposed that "change of scenery" could permit to sell all available items in the house..
All the family (and me too) was relieved to move in Barnacle. Bridgeport was too boring. The only grief was for Andy who had to leave his brother, Matt Shepard-Striker.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-3040.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-3040.php)
"Don't worry,Andy, I'll write you, every week"..
Raising triplets is not so hard. I have their grand-father, grand-mother, father and aunt to help. So the girls have learned quickly to walk and talk .. only miss potty training.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-4330.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-4330.php)
Kelly became young adult the same day they moved in their new house. Like her parents, she'll stay a vampire. She wants to be a scientist.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-4340.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-4340.php)
I wanted to keep Andy and Rosa a few days again to complete the girls's education and move them not long after their daughter, but they haven't got enough money for that. So, I will have to move Kelly and her parents in the same time. I've installed a starter house, which price is 24,000 simoleons, which means there will stay for Anthony only 4.000 simoleons to live. It's a pity I cannot sell gems or stones, because I think I have got at least 60.000 simoleons in the inventories  .
I have a question about Twallan's mod:
-How can I do to prevent Rosa for being pregnant when she won't be under my control anymore? Vampires have a long life and I don't want her to give a lot of sisters and brothers to Anthony
-Same question for my heir's sister because I would want to allow her only 1 child when she won"t be under my control.
-Calisims, your family lives in Barnacle. have you installed bars, clubs and lounges from the catalog?. I ask you that because I don't want to face the same bugs than in Bridgeport. I suspected that some of the bugs were linked to these clubs, particularly when Twallan's mod began to crash.
Finally, I wanted to correct two things in the rules I put above (for those who want to use them). I'm sorry but I hadn't thought at all that some of them wouldn't be reproducible..
- The luxury goal in section F could be modified in "Replace all furnishings of any room" .. So it will allow challengers to reroll this goal more than one time during the challenge.
-The "business center'" (E section) could be modified in "Buy at least parts of 3 rabbit holes (choose whatever you want) which will allows challengers to reroll this goal more than one time too.

I think for females Twallan's SP mod has a setting where you can keep them from getting pregnant. I don't know about men, though.
To keep the genetics of my neighbors trucking along I've used MasterController's pollinate option a few times, but I always feel bad when I want to match up two of them who barely know each other. I wonder if there's a setting to edit their relationships. I looked for it but failed.
My second generation heir's twin had to move out of the house upon young-adulthood, and I've had fun watching her have her own twins across the street. I don't know how much I'll like it later on down the line, though. There's always ForceKill if it gets too bad. x.x

mimi, you can set any individual household in story progression to not be able to have children. Just click on the house where Rosa lives (after you move her) and set it so no pregnancies are allowed.
I did put clubs and bars in Barnacle Bay. There is a lot already in the neighborhood that has a regular bar in it, I changed that to have the dive bar from LN, I also added wall speakers and put in stairs to the empty 2nd floor and added a stage with instruments and a dance floor, plus some new game things. And I set it to a dive bar.
I also added two premade dance clubs. I think they were preorder bonuses from gamestop. They are regular buildings with just two stories, not high rise shells with elevators. I hate those elevators.
I made room for new lots in Barnacle Bay by merging some of the rabbithole lots, since the way it is they have just one rabbithole occupying a whole 30x30 lot. So, I put the bookstore & theater on one 30x30, and the spa and grocery store on one, etc, and used the merged city hall/police/military and business/bistro buildings from LN. The latest patch fixes the problems with those lots, btw.
I'm glad you were finally able to move from Bridgeport.
NutsAndDolts, you can edit relationships in master controller. Under Sim>Intermediate>Edit relationship by Category allows you to change relationship status (make Sims romantic interest, or married, etc) and Edit Relationship by Value allows you to change how much they like each other. If you do partner Sims using edit by category, it helps to also edit by value and give them a nice high score so they stay together for at least a little while, lol.

LOL, the one vanilla pudding that managed to infiltrate my neighborhood and breed before I could give her features some flavor was Lionel's mother. So, I have vanilla genes in my legacy family. Luckily Lionel only had vanilla nose & mouth from his mother, he got Richie Radan's eyes & evil eyebrows.
Of Cameron & Lionel's children, if I hadn't rolled for an heir I would have chosen Spider for being the least vanilla (he took after Cameron).
But even though he does carry the vanilla in his nose and mouth, I'm glad I got Shadow as heir for his personality. Luckily his kids have bucked the vanilla trend, we seem to have bred it out, yay.

Calisims, I am reluctant to install the last patch (I don't want my sims to be miserables, even if I give them high quality beds  ), so I won't have any benefit of its effects. It's a pity because I think that playing in a neighborood with merged rabbit holes is certainly more interesting to avoid computer's memory issues.

You know, I'm so overzealous about eradicating vanilla that I don't have photos of them.
I did dig up one picture of a Sim who is the daughter of a vanilla and who inherited very vanilla features (though with one my Sim's haircolor)

The Vanilla Sim is basically face one of your CAS templates, with no slider settings. They aren't ugly, just very bland. Find any bartender, consignment store clerk, stylist, etc, they all have identical features, just different hair/eye/skin color, and varying body size.

flanah, your last baby is really cute :gjob: ..
I didn't know at all what was "vanilla pudding" (funny name). The name is suitable for these unchanging round faces, but it seems to me that the NPC bodies and faces have improved since the basegame release.
I took a photo of the tinkerer in my game. She hasn't got pudding face..
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-4450.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-4450.php)
In my opinion, the most "pudding faces" NPC are the housemaids. They have all the same round and smooth face.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-4470.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-4470.php)
In my game, I don't take count of NPC because they grow in age so fast that they haven't got the time to spread their genes in the neighborood.
Sometimes, to prevent the game from choosing its own clerks or stylists I used to install 2 or 3 families when I play in a new neighborood, so the game tends to give them these jobs by default. If the EA npc live in a house, I just move them and replace them. But it's not so frequent, because the game (and even Twallan's mod) often give these jobs to inhabitants. There are always a few unemployed people in the neigborood and they have priority on autonomously created sims.

Yeah, I do that too. You need to be sure the Sim is not wearing a work uniform when you do the change, because if it is wearing a work uniform, the change only applies when they are wearing it. So to make the change permanent and genetic, change them into everyday outfit first.
When you first move into a neighborhood, some of the NPCs won't be vanilla pudding because EA creates some homeless packed into the neighborhoods who take the NPC jobs. But after they die off, all new NPCs spawned will have vanilla pudding face. I mostly don't bother with them either, I have my story progression set so NPCs don't get into romances with the neighborhood Sims. Any vanilla that moves into a house gets changed immediately.
It was only while I was playing without Twallan's story progression that one (a bartender) got in and married Richie Radan and had his kid before I knew about it.

However, it did assign one of my next door neighbors as a paparazzi. o.o

Penny is kleptomaniac (like her father), couch potatoe and friendly. She has the little "beard" of the Hemlock beneath her lips. I don't know exactly what it is, I think it's a sign or something like that, because all the Hemlocks had a sign on the neck.

My heiress, Polly is brave, neurotic and family-oriented
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-487.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-487.php)
Anthony has finally forgotten his love crush with the girls 's mother. He has had a date with the repairwoman he had called for his broken toilets (I put a photo of her above).. She hates children, and 3 toddlers is more than she can stand.. So they prefer to meet outside, in clubs or bars. But she's not really young, and will be elder in a few days.
http://www.zimagez.com/miniature/screenshot-4520.jpg (http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-4520.php)
I've serious problems of money with the family. There is only 590 simoleons on their bank account (after I put all the furnishings in the girls's bedrooms). And I'll not be able soon to pay the bills... Anthony is at level 3 of his criminal career and is paid only 204 simoleons per day.

Tatoo addict -I don't use the tatoo machine in the game since I noticed that my sims were always younger (in age) after they use it. There was the same issue with the dressers..These bugs are corrected but come back in every new EP. And moreover, I'm not fond of tatoo, so I'll let this one
-Stylist: same issue than the tatoo machine, but even if I like the random makeover, I would be a bit disappointed to play with a strange looked sim (particulary if the stylist fails) but I am agree to try it if there is no major bug on the stylist machine

Portraits can get really annoying when a sim is high enough in painting. The artist may decide to randomly stylize the painting into something unrecognizable. If that happens I have them scrap the painting early and start over... but I'm sure you figured that out already, haha.

To post pictures, you first need to upload them to a picture hosting site. I use photobucket, but there are others, too.
The hosting site will provide links you can copy and paste into the body of your forum post.
You can either copy and paste a link with IMG tags directly into the post, or use the 'Insert Image' button above the post box when you are replying. That will give you a popup where you can paste you image link.

Calisims, Allyson really looks like an Hollywood pin-up (ava gardner or maybe also Elizabeth Taylor).. With this face, I don't have any doubt that she'll succeed her actress career..
I choose to give celebrity points to people who have reached the top of their career. I did it for a star news anchor (an elder).. But I think you'll have to activate stories for all the neighborood with the storyprogression.. You'll have a flood of messages giving you news about your neighbours, but you'll be able to know who is at the top level of his career..
Could you help me with something? I haven't found one of your reply on the old topic, when you gave me a tip to get rid of "hyphenated names" (when 2 sims marry and keep their both names)? Could you say me how to do to remove this?
EDIT: here are Polly, Phoebe and Penny as teenagers
Polly (new trait: Friendly, she has only good traits.. fortunately because she's my heir of my generation 4)

Phoebe (new trait : light sleeper). She's my favorite, I like her face, which reminds the one of her grand grand-father, Wogan Hemlock (generation 1 of Bridgeport)

Nice update, calisims. *hugs Lionel*
I thought I'd feel bad kicking my ghosts to a graveyard, but back when the house was tiny my founder's ghost was far more annoying than entertaining (also Sacha kept seeing her grandmother and fainting). Now that I've added a colossal basement, I put new urns down there and the ghosts don't tend to bother me. Both Randy and Leona have died in my game, though that's not yet reflected in my blog.
I added an entry yesterday.
http://r2simslegacy.blogspot.com/
And another this morning. I'm going to limit myself to one entry per day, assuming I have that day's entry ready. Once I get caught up (or busy), the posting rate will slow down.

mimi, in Story Progression, under General Options go to Marriage Name, then select the option you want.
I was thinking of Rita Hayworth when I was choosing Allyson's new look, though Rita was a redhead. But that hairstyle looks like it was modeled after hers. Allyson's favorite color is black, so I was going to make her totally goth, but when I saw that hairstyle on her, I knew I had to go Hollywood glamour, which also fits her career.
I do have the active stories in my neighborhood, I just don't have anyone in the neighborhood who is high up in the celebrity careers. I guess I could make the world renowned surgeons and international super spies into celebrities, or do like EA does and make every production assistant and roadie a star, lol. I guess I need to decide soon. There are a lot of people in part time jobs in my neighborhood, not a lot of full-timers.
I'm glad Penny lost her weird goatee. That was really strange. I love Phoebe's eyes, she's very interesting.
NutsAndDolts, keep updating, five times a day if you have to! Must...See...Sacha spawn....

lol, no problem NutsAndDolts, I'll try to upload the family on the exchange or on Mediafire, if you want..
Calisims, thank you for your help, I'll be able to remove hyphenated names, now.
New question about the challenge:
If we roll for a couple (in generation 3 for instance), does the heir have to get the primary income (section C) or are we allowed to change to give him (or her) the second income (section D) ? Until now I had always considered that the first career must be the heir, and the second for his/her mate.. but maybe I'm wrong.. :help:

I always thought the the primary career had to be the heir's.

Five updates a day? You're such an enabler, calisims!
PS: I love Misty's face in her daughter's age up pic.
I give primary career to the heir. The less you get to decide, the more it's considered a challenge, generally. But I don't think anybody will look down on you if you decide to give the heir secondary. ;)

Hi, I just started a random legacy, here's what I've rolled for my founding generation:
Marital Structure: Adoptive Single Parent
Number of Children: 2
Primary Income: Private Investigator
Generation Goal: Perfect Children
Miscellaneous Fun: Half-Siblings
I'm not quite sure how half-siblings should work with both adoption and being single. Do I just make sure that my sim is in a relationship with different sims when she adopts, even though they're not allowed to live with her? It only said to re-roll if you just have one child, but maybe it's an oversight and I should roll a new misc. fun goal.
Anyway, I have already started playing and will make a more interesting post about how things are going soon. :)

I hope you enjoy the challenge, it's a lot of fun. Look forward to hearing how it's going.

..But I don't think anybody will look down on you if you decide to give the heir secondary. ;)
Thanks, It was what I thought too.. primary income for the heir  . I'll have to produce 5 childrens in generation 5 (I wanted this for calisims, and it falls on me  ) So I was wondering if it will be better to have a girl or a boy as heir in generation 4.. The secondary income will be a farmer, and, in my opinion, it's better to take care of pregnant women when the only thing they have to do is stay at home and take care of their gardens..
Miss Puff, welcome in this challenge. You'll have a lot of fun, for sure :)

LOL, mimi, I hope I do get 5 children at some point just to make you happy. Though I hope I never have to have 5 perfect children, that might make me crazy.
I agree, with that many children to raise in a normal lifsespan, you are better off having the mother be the farmer. Otherwise with the maternity leave, she'll never work at all.
mimi250
15th Jan 2011, 09:00 PM
I think I'll choose a heiress, and install the mod to stop maternity leaves.. It makes sense by the fact that the primary income will be ghost hunter. Independant careers in real life don't stop, even with pregnancies, and don't know maternity days-off  . But I'm far from the adoption... I'll have a lot of time to think again about it

I think section A could use a few more options, but didn't someone already suggest that?
I'd add one for "have a member of the extended family help you raise the kids." Instead of get married, grab a cousin or sibling. =P

On the 2nd page of this thread I posted some alternate rules for section A that lytefoot came up with. I use those, which is how I got partial biological/adopted kids for Shadow's generation. And I like you idea as well, I might add that in to lytefoot's rules.
I do think in general that this challenge could use more variety, as you get too many repeats over 10 generations.
NutsAndDolts
15th Jan 2011, 11:16 PM
I like the idea because it provides an excuse to keep more than one of my kids as an heir, or to drag in one of the cousins I've been keeping up with.
Of course, I'd never get that roll when I'd actually want it. =P
Personally, I like the genetics play aspect too much to ever want a generation with NO biological children, so I may change my personal rules to have mixed adopted and biological where it only says adopted. O.o'

Sorry to repeat this long thread but I post again the full challenge rules, introducing the last ones created by the challengers and the ones Lytefoot created a few months ago. As Severedsolo is not around, we are not able to change the original topic. Maybe she'll agree to modify the previous one when she'll come back
These rules have to be tested, of course..But we'll only knows if they work when we'll have play a bit with them
So, if someone wants to use the last updates, here are they :(flanah, I took the liberty to change the "fighter" rule in one fight per week instead of by day
UPDATE OF 01.13.11
To Begin:
1. Set your aging to normal.
2. Roll the first generation's goals and restrictions, and note them down.
3. Create your starting sims in CAS. If your result for section A is single parent or adoptive parent, roll a single sim. If your result is a couple, you may roll the couple at once if you'd like.
4. Move them onto an empty lot of your choice. You may be playing with this lot for a long time, so choose carefully.
General Rules:
1. This challenge runs for 10 generations, until the children considered to be the 10th generation die of old age. It is not required to roll for the 11th generation, unless you want to continue playing past the end of the challenge.
2. You lose if you fail any of the randomized parameters that you're required to meet for the generation.
3. No cheating! This means maxmotives, motherlode, kaching, fastskill mods, and anything that gives you a clear advantage over other players. In addition to the obvious methods, you should avoid sneaky exploits such as compendium farming or using vacations as free time to train skills off the clock. See rule 7 for more information on skilling while away from home. The robotic hand of god from awesomemod is not considered to be cheating, and even if you don't use the mod you are welcome to perform the actions yourself.
4. No aging sims up early. You must wait for them to age up naturally, or use a cake on the day they would naturally age up(wait until it says 0 days in the age bar).
5. From each generation, choose a sim to become the heir. If a sim is not the chosen heir, they must be moved out(kicked out or moved to a new house) of the household within 24 sim hours of aging up to young adult. The parents of the previous generation may remain in the household.
6. If you have ambitions, you must enable laundry by placing at least one hamper on the lot on day 1.
7. If you have world adventures, you must not use vacation destinations to have free skilling days. You are allowed to freely skill photography, martial arts and nectar making while away from home. Other skills must not be skilled or practiced, unless you use a mod such as awesomemod that allows you to scale the difficulty(set it to at least 3x the normal difficulty). Training that comes as a side effect of anything required for an adventure opportunity is allowed, as is athletics training while pushing things around in tombs or practicing martial arts. But don't abuse this provision.
8. Eating Ambrosia is banned unless you are going for the "Death Eater" Generation Goal. Your Sims can make it, but they cant eat it.
9. The Famous "Heir" Rule : Once you know how many children your Sims need to have, Roll a random number between 1 and <Number of Children>.
Minor Clarifications, Allowed Mods, and Other Miscellaneous Stuffage:
1. You can use any lifetime happiness rewards, unless the rules specifically say you can't. See #5-7 below.
2. Twallan's career mod is ok to use, for the different schools as well as for the part-time careers.
3. You may make money freely using any method that isn't covered as an income type, with the exception that you may not sell klepto'd items unless you're currently in the criminal career track.
4. Resurrecting ghosts is not allowed, unless going for a ghost baby when you have rolled "Multi-Cultural"
5. Servos are allowed. You may invent as many servos as you can, but they all must move out or otherwise be removed from the household by the time the next generation becomes a young adult. All the servos you create may help with chores around the house, or as babysitters, but may not have a career or earn money, just like an unemployed sim.
6. The Moodlet Modifier is not allowed
7. The food replicator thing is allowed, unless you've rolled homemade or living green.
8. Super Commander from awesomemod is rumored to now have the capability to automate some ambitions jobs. Do not use this. Automation of skilling/collecting and other careers is fine.
9. If using a "Risky Woohoo" Mod and a "Teen Woohoo" Mod (I cant see this issue occuring otherwise) then if one of your Sims becomes pregnant or impregnates another Sim (accidentally or not) that Sim is automatically the heir regardless of whom you choose.
10. If you roll "5 Star Celebrity" you may introduce Celebrities to your town if its "Fame Ghosting" (No 5 star celebrities, etc.) You may also up and move your Family to Bridgeport if messing with the Towns gene pool doesn't agree with you (like me)
There is no limit at the moment on how many celebrities you can introduce, but dont abuse it, only introduce what you need. Make sure you are CERTAIN there are no celebrities first, rather than just going out and being "hmm no celebrities, ahh well lets add some"
11. Only the current heir needs to reach "5 Star Celebrity" Status, not the entire family.
B. Number of Children Note that exceeding this number by having accidental twins or triplets is ok, but you must not have any more children after that.
1-2) 1
3-6) 2
7-8) 3
9) 4
10) 5
C. Primary Income (Roll between 1 and 19)
1-10) Standard Career Roll on chart C1 to determine which.
10-13) Non-Standard Career Roll on chart C2 to determine which. If you have ambitions, you may join the jobs offered through the town hall(such as painter, sculptor, writer, etc).
14-18) Ambitions Job Roll on chart C3 to determine which. If you don't have the ambitions expansion, re-roll for this section.
19) Job Hopper - Must play a sequence of careers in order, playing each career until you reach level 5(careers or professions), or for a week in sim-time(part time and non-standard careers). Roll ten times for the different careers, and play them in the order you rolled them.
C1. Standard Career List (Roll between 1 and 16)
1) Business
2) Criminal (Thief)
3) Criminal (Evil)
4) Culinary
5) Journalism
6) Law Enforcement (Forensics)
7) Law Enforcement (Super Spy)
8) Education
9) Military
10) Music (Classical)
11) Music (Rock Star)
12) Political
13) Professional Sports
14) Science
15) Movies (Film Star)
16) Movies (Director)
C2. Non-Standard Career List (Roll between 1 and 12)
1) Collecting Collect objects such as bugs, rocks and gems, and sell them to earn money. Alchemy and smelting/gem cutting is allowed.
2) Farmer Grow and sell your own produce. Nectar Making is considered part of farming, if you have world adventures.
3) Fishersim Sell what you can fish up.
4) Author Write books and live off of royalties.
5) Artist Paint or sculpt(or both!) and sell the finished products.
6) Inventor Sell the fruits of your workbench. Re-roll if you don't have ambitions.
7) Busker Busk with your guitar(or snakecharming basket, if you have world adventures) on community lots to earn money. Alternatively, if you have Late Night, form a Band to earn some extra cash.
8) Freelance Photographer Sell photos you take. Re-roll if you don't have world adventures.
9) Adventurer Hunt for relics in faraway lands to sell. Re-roll if you don't have world adventures.
10) Freelance Scientist - Devoted to logic and reason, but not feeling the 9-5 laboratory grind? Spend your time searching the galaxy, solving problems over the computer, and hacking instead.
11) Mixologist - Moonlight as a mixologist to make money
12) Celebrity - Make money only by obtaining celebrity status and doing the oppurtunities your agent passes to you.
C3. Ambitions Job List (Roll between 1 and 6)
1) Architect
2) Firefighter
3) Ghost Hunting
4) Medical
5) Private Investigator
6) Stylist
D. Secondary Income (Roll between 1 and 20)
1-2) Standard Career Roll on chart C1 to determine which.
3-9) Non-Standard Career Roll on chart C2 to determine which.
10-11) Ambitions Job Roll on chart C3 to determine which. If you don't have the ambitions expansion, re-roll for this section.
12-17) Part Time Job Your choice, as there's not much functional difference.
18-19) None This sim must not work to earn money. This means they may not sell paintings or other art objects(though they may create them), write novels, sell collected items, etc. They are allowed to earn money through opportunities, however.
20) Job Hopper - Must play a sequence of careers in order, playing each career until you reach level 5(careers or professions), or for a week in sim-time(part time and non-standard careers). Roll ten times for the different careers, and play them in the order you rolled them.
E. Generation Goal (Roll between 1 and 12)
1) Perfect Children All sim children must age up perfectly(with the exception of pregnancy, which is a bit random and out of your control).
* At least five guests
12) Start a powerful business center and buy parts of at least 3 rabbit holes in town (whatever you want). You don't have to be the owner, only at least a partner.
F. Miscellaneous Fun (Roll between 1 and 12)
1) Hands Off - You may not sell anything directly in the inventories until your heir become YA.
9) Luxury - Replace the furniture of any room by the highest quality in the catalog. you'll need to save money for that, but money is not a problem for you, is it?
10) Born with it- you can't modify the looks of your sim in anyway , If you got too bored you can get a random make over at the salon just for kicks
11)Tatoo addict -you must have a new tattoo every week
12) Fighter - you must get into a fight or bar brawl every week

Me, too, my favorite thing about legacies is seeing how the genetics play out over generations.
ETA: Thanks, mimi! That's handy to have all the new rules in one place.

Nice job with the new list, Mimi! I like all the new options, they look fun. I agree that I tend to prefer biological children because of the genetics, but that's one of the reasons I like this challenge. I've never adopted a child in the Sims 3 before, and I think only once that I can remember in Sims 2, but now I have to and it will be something new and interesting for me.
I decided to start a blog to post my legacy story, here: http://nestorlegacy.blogspot.com/. Like I said in the post there, this is my first time doing this, so please let me know what you think! I know the first entry is pretty short, but I just wanted to put something up there as an introduction to get started.
Also, I decided to re-roll Half-Siblings and got Runs in the Family, so I'll be playing with that instead.

Great update! I love the Landgraab story, don't feel guilty about including it. ;)
Donnel may have just turned out exactly like his father or grandfather. I've noticed some sim children are simply clones of their parents, even if they have a diverse genetic pool.
The Egypt house-tombs can get insanely annoying if not timed properly, I found out. I was almost to the end of one when, several ceilings above, the house owner grew weary of Jazz's visit and teleported him outside. x.x

I shall add to the double-posting with my own blog update.

I added four entries. Calisims will either be pleased or disappointed by Sacha's children. =P

Nice updates Nuts and Dolts and Calisims, I like Martin's ears and blue hair. They are not so ugly. :gjob:
Nutsanddolts, I wanted to upload my sims for you on the exchange, when I realized that I would have to upload the house too.. As I've a few pay CC in the house, if you prefer I'll upload the neighborood on mediafire.. So you'll be able to move the family and install it in your neighborood
I have a lot of fun playing with the triplets. They are really charming.. The most of the time, I think teenage stage really long and a bit boring but with these girls, I can take fun with teenagers..

The triplets at the Grind
Anthony's career made me crazy. Each time he was at the point to be promoted, he was sent to jail and his performances decreased.. Fortunately, he arrives to reach the level 7 of the thief career..
Anthony continued to go out with his ex-repairwomen: Gwen Peche. She became elder not long after they met. When his girls became teenagers, Anthony decided that they were completely prepared now to see their father living a relationship with an adult female. As he wanted to "go farther" with Gwen, he found that she was not ready at all to have sex with him, fearing that an unwanted baby would come in her life :!:

"Anthony, don't hold it against me, but I hate children, and I don't want to have one by accident.. I want to keep a free life, without any constraints".. .. Of course, are you sure you can have baby again, Gwen? Stupid girl: :faceslap:
They both (in fact rather Gwen) did the choice to keep a platonic love relationship, but Anthony was much frustrated. He hadn't slept with a woman since the birth of his children.
At school, I was in the same case than Calisims with Alyson and Roslyn and met great difficulties to find suitables mates for the triplets. Phoebe, the prestiest of the girls, had met all the available teenage boys at school while her sisters had only met other female students. Phoebe took in charge to introduce them to her two sisters..
Penny fell immediatly in love with Marcus Malifa, one of her sister's fellow. But he had already a strong relationship with Coraline Barbedor. After establishing a friendly relationship with him, Penny managed to seduce him.. Coraline was prettiest than her, but Penny was more famous in Barnacle.. Marcus decided that he would prefer to go out with a 4 stars-celebrity, which will give him more rewards and the respect of everybody in town..It was time for Penny to take Marcus's heart, because he became YA less than 2 hours after they decided to stabilize. Coraline took her consolation with an old man, as soon as she became YA (the same night than her ex-lover)

Phoebe is in love with Roger Rao, the most handsome man in town. Roger's son was her school mate when she was a child and Roger is married to Mia Rao (Anthony's partner in the criminal career). But there is no limit to love. And Phoebe is waiting patiently the day when she'll become YA to push Roger and Mia's marriage to its end... At present, as she'll be YA in 8 days, she just managed to be Roger's best friend..

Sometimes, in the game, random events make things easier.. Anthony and Mia started a love affair. They are close friends, working together almost every days.. Mia has more class than Gwen. She's young, kind and pretty.. they have compatibles zodiac signs and they fell in love with each other, without even realise what was happening.
Of course Mia is not as wild as Gwen, and she's always ready to have sex, particularly in the theater where they have full of hiding places to make love

So Anthony is now in love with Mia, and his daughter Phoebe is in love with Mia's husband.. What will happen next? :D

Nice update, mimi. It's hilarious that Gwen was afraid of getting pregnant.
I'm glad Anthony has found someone, and that his romance will help Phoebe get on in hers, lol. It's also fun for me to see how Barnacle Bay will play differently than mine in your legacy.
