View Full Version : Is this a normals issue? (Nevermind)

Hey,

So, I'm making this accessory that is a headpiece, so to speak. But I'm getting these weird shadows going all over the place. Is it a normals problem?

In Milkshape:

In CAS:

I've used align normals, with no help and regroup bits separately and tried then, nada.
Any help would be great :)

Are all of the faces on the mesh facing the same direction? The shape of the holes look like faces facing the wrong way.
When you are in Milkshape, right-click the 3D view and check to see if backfaces are being shown. If they are, turn it off to see if any holes appear.

Ah, that seems to be a problem. Is there any easy way to fix this or must I manually move every face?

Thank you for answering :)

yes, you must if you want to do it correct.
If this is for personal use you could duplicate the whole mesh and reverse its faces
Then regroup it with the original.
This does give some shadow/lightning issues in CAS but not ingame.
If you want to fix those also you have to give the duplicate its own textures

Not sure if you created the mesh yourself but if you did then keep in mind that if you create a face(by picking 3 vertices) you work clockwise on all faces

I thought it was possible in Milkshape to select the affected faces and select 'Face > Reverse Vertex Order'. It may be time consuming but it would ensure there was only the one original mesh.

The method does work, although I have yet to try Menaceman44's which I shall in a moment.
Now however, after finishing the LODs and such CTU won't show any difference in the 3D view once I press commit and crashes my game when I go to the package's category. -.-
Back to the drawing board, I think.

Thank you for your help :)

you can not update the meshes in custom packages with CTU, create a new package or update the GEOM with either s3PE or Postal.
It is wat you prolly did, it will make the package lose the links to the meshes

Even when it's a brand new package with a different custom mesh I still see no change in CTU. T'is very odd.

Wat do you mean, you still see no change?
You wont see any changes when importing a mesh untill you saved your package and reopen it.

Yes you're right. Sorry was just missing a step in the procedure. Thanks for your help :)
