View Full Version : Hot tubs are disappointing...opinions?

Is it just me, or have they given us a lot of new hot tub options (3 with Late Night, as well as several with OLS and the Sims 3 store) without really giving variety?

What I mean is, all the hot tubs are set up with a massive framework underneath, which means that you have to plan ahead for where you want to place the hot tub, since the framework goes into the floor below it. Is this really necessary? the in-ground hot tub in The Sims 2 worked just as well without any awkward structuring underneath. So why did they feel the need to make it so much harder to set up this time around?

Furthermore, I found that when trying to recreate old homes, such as Don's condo (or the Caliente's) from the Sims 2, you can't even set up a hot tub because the condos in The Sims 2 featured above ground hot tubs. Come to think of it, didn't the original Sims exclusively feature above ground tubs? Why are we missing these?

I was looking forward to setting up new hot tubs in the Sunset Valley condos I just meticulously recreated, yet apparently EA thought it wise to give us only in-ground tubs with awkward ugliness underneath to get in the way of placement.

If I knew how to make new CC hot tubs I would do it myself, but I sadly lack the knowledge, and based on what little I understand about designing new CC, it seems like it would be rather complicated. Maybe somebody else will step up at a future point down the road.

Does this bug anybody else? I hope I am not the only one who is bothered by this.

But you weren't able to place an in-ground hot-tub on an upper floor in TS2 either... Considering that's the way it is in real life I think it makes sense and it would kinda stupid to have people sitting in a hot-tub on the 3rd floor with no trace of it on the 2nd. If it annoys you then you can always use move objects on to place them where you want and then delete the bottom part.

:faceslap: Wow I feel ignorant now. I have never thought of trying to remove the framework. I will have to try that and see how it works. Thanks for the tip!

However, I still wish they had above ground tubs though...I miss having the heart-shaped one from The Sims: Hot Date.

I do to, it's pretty rare to find an in-ground hot-tub....

The Hottub is quite boring. EA even put in the cover as one of the main feature of LN. I thought it would be great, but it's just not very different from the TS2 one, with little improvement where it can now accommodate 6 sims and sims can now bring his drink. It's kind of boring too watching your sims in the hottub for hours, nothing fun or great to be happened, no new interaction as well.

I miss the taller version of the hottub (non-deep-in-the-floor) in TS2 too. Btw, EA will not invest to create one of those. They already made the hottub, the project is closed.......unless this thread attract a lot of people attention and get tons of reply and support......like those bigger breast request in thesims3.com forum. :D

Like a TARDIS-tub.. where have their legs and asses gone..? They're below the floor on this level but I can't see their legs and asses in the ceiling below..

Did deleting the bottom of the hot tub make the hot tubing experience better for you, mariomaster101?

One came with the Futureshock Living set (I think EA took down the hot tub though...weird) and there's also one that came with the new tiki set which came out this month. Unfortunately you have to buy the entire sets to get them, they're not available individually.

I believe EA could have done alot more with the hot tubs. They have always been the centre of attention when it came water works in the sims.
But has anyone had this problem: My sims will get in the tub and get out at random times for no absolute reason. When I try to have a couple romance, one will get out at random and spoil the whole evening... Although it doesn't happen all the time...
It's really starting to annoy me...

What other things could they have done to "improve" the hot tub?

Not sure if this was mentioned or complained before, but I cannot woohoo in hot tub anymore. Is it because of my "Woohooer" mod or it is also broken with TS3 base game? That I don't know and somewhat not willing to find out as woohoo in hot tub is not all that important to me.

But since the question is asked, I would say instead of giving us hot tub as "an object", it is better to give us hot tub in the swimming pool format so that we can create hot tub with the sizes we want. Swimming pool is very deep, sims have to swim. Fountain is shallow but sims can't get in. So hot tub would be a shallow swimming pool with knee deep, or waist deep water only, that sims can walk around instead of swim around.

I think this idea pops out when I think of Asian bath houses. Until this point, the only way to make bath house is via CFE method to raise the swimming pool's floor higher and maybe put a bench in there. Sims can sit on bench chatting or watching TV, but they still have to swim around floating on air and there is an odd air walking animation getting in and out of the fake "bathing pool".
