Can I ground kids and teens manually, or is it only automatic?

I want to torture my SimChildren by keeping them constantly grounded, but in order to ground them, I have to keep making them get caught pulling pranks or staying out. Which is a pain in the booty. Does having a low relationship bring up some sort of "ground for x days?"
