Hi there
After reading and commenting on this topic -
laptop under $1,000 (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=443480)
I decided that I would not be able to get one that cheap in Australia anyway. Here is the one I eventually bought. I have been playing the Sims 3 (base game) and have not encountered graphical problems at all. It doesn't seem to get really hot either.
I would be great if other players could post their experiences and specs of the laptops playing the Sims 3 so others might get some idea what laptop might suit them. I am not recommending any but just letting you know what works for me. Nowadays a lot of people are using laptops instead of PCs so it make sense to get some more information out there. In my non techy humble opinion you don't need to spend a fortune to play sims 3 on a laptop built specially for gaming. ;)

Hi, remember you from the other thread so I thought I would post my aging laptop specs here...lol

Toshiba A660-11M Windows 7 64-bit
GT330M Nvidia Card 1GB Dedicated (up to 2.5GB Shared)
Intel Core i7-720QM 1.60/2.80 in Turbo Mode
4GB RAM
500GB Hard Drive (in the windows score system this is the only thing that lets it down)
The scores I get on Windows 7 is around 5.9. I play Sims 3 & the expansions just fine on medium-high settings...I don't really notice any lag and the graphics are better then the super-duper desktop I had so go figure! On the plus side I can take my sims on holiday or sit downstairs and play rather then play alone in my room like an anti-social reject!

I do use a Belkin Lap Tray which has a powerful fan built into it, I use this whether the laptop is on my lap or on a desk/table. It does keep the temperatures down well and I higly recommend a good cooling system when using a laptop for gaming...the Alienware I looked into at the same time I purchased this only scored 5.1 on the Windows 7 scale thing and the graphics looked jerky, this could be because it was a display model but considering it was over £200 more than the Toshiba (and I have had Toshiba before) I went for the Toshiba...nuff said!
