Note to Mods: I checked under Sims 2, Sims 3, Media and other topics, I guess this is the best place for my topic. Please move as you wish.
I saw it today. Announcement coming soon, The Sims Social. The logos and advertisements link it to Sims 3 game; however, look closer and the graphis are Sims 1 quality - 2.5 D, one or two views, similar chibi characters. That's one reason I think this game is a huge step backwards. Who wants to go back to the visual appearance of Sims 1 in 2011 ? Granted it's still improved from 2000, but the graphics aren't even 3D!
My second rant is about the nature of Facebook gaming, which by design infects the Sims Social. Turn off secure browsing. Read messages where people offer you free credits for clicking on an unknown link. Get a virus. Do you want neighbors and friends in your game? You need to interest your Facebook friends in playing, or add hundreds of strangers. You won't have any neighbors without it. How about creating some people for your neighborhood? You can't do that, or can you? Monetization - Sims community complained that EA was milking us for money with expansions and disks every three months. With facebook credits, they can ask you for money ___ every time you log in to the game ___ and when you go to the store to shop, there is a rack of Facebook credits on cards.
Custom content, media sharing, fan videos and stores. gone. gone gone. Yes, we'll see little pictures of Sims Social on facebook. That's not making me happy. I'm spammed enough. Also, this game isn't a sit down and play for two hours game. Yes, my butt got fat in the last decade, but I created something! Facebook games hold our interest for about 15 minutes. The last time I played games that short, I put a quarter in the slot and played Asteroids.
I don't know if the disc style of gaming will come back. I see Facebook is the best place to sell and play games now. I currently play zero games - yes zero. I think Sims Social is another sign that in the years ahead, I and the Sims community will bid a pleasant farewell to each other. As long as the custom content and creativy last, I'll be here. When the world of sims exists only on Facebook, I'll go back to my chess board and neighbors.
