People don't upload their favorite neighborhoods they have been working on and the sims they have in them. I think it would be fun to play in other simmers neighborhoods. I feel as long as people added a list as to what hacks they use in their game and what eps and stuff packs this would be a great idea. I see that the question of what have you been doing in your sims or how do you keep it interesting keeps popping up and i think this would be a great way to give the game a refreshing new way to play. Also, if we all knew how to merge neighborhoods together that would be fun because then our sims could actually have neighbors and we could all say what we like about playing in someone else town. So it'd be like a big group community project! Just an idea though Let me know what yall think of it!

I'm pretty sure people do this every once in a while. It's just a matter of someone starting it up.
I know someone had posted something similar where they would pass the file around to each other and play the same hood file.

you mean like post up custom neighborhoods with custom sims already in it?
i think its a great idea. i get real bored with the stories maxis gave with the townies and i create my own with much funner stories. I'd like to share my custom townies in a neighborhood with everyone, and i'd like to play with someone else's custom townies.
if thats what you mean by this... :)

I believe that the main reason that people don't share their neighborhoods is because populated neighborhoods are huge. Be forewarned: many of them are also pretty corrupt.

I don't do it because simply my game is packed with CC so all my Sims come with custom skins, hair, etc.

I don't do it because simply my game is packed with CC so all my Sims come with custom skins, hair, etc.Populated neighborhoods can be shared with all of the required CC, but that just makes them even bigger.
Also, if we all knew how to merge neighborhoods together that would be fun because then our sims could actually have neighbors and we could all say what we like about playing in someone else town.We already know how to merge neighborhoods together:
- Turn a neighborhood into a subhood
- Add the new subhood to your neighborhood
- Repeat for all neighborhoods that you want to merge.
That's (more or less) the technique used to make all of the available megahoods and uberhoods:

The sheer amount of CC that would be required for someone to download just so that they could play my hood would be staggering. Considering that many people post that they don't like to play with more than 1GB of CC and I have more than 1GB of just game mods I can't see too many players wanting to go there. Plus I do build my own houses but since I suck at building they are more for function than form.

Yeah, it's all about CC, I've got 800mb, and I don't think that many people would appreciate downloading that much just to see my hood. :)
I'd be pretty interested in the hoods of others, though, but only if their families have stories or some route they want to take that the player has created for them. That's what makes other hoods unique. Otherwise it's like downloading any family with any lot. Although I'd probably still download, just out of curiousity, to see which houses people build, what their families are doing, i.e. to see how other people play the game.

Most of the CC included with populated neighborhoods is unnecessary. I have attempted to play many of the neighborhoods that I linked to, but without the included CC. With a few rare exceptions, there were no major problems. I've tried to document the required and optional CC in the wiki.
I, too, wish that there were more good story-driven populated neighborhoods available.

A: I play Pleasantview, so you already have my neighbourhood. :P
B: I'm too attached to it to fathom the thought of somebody else messing around in it. (I nearly cried when my best friend accidentally placed her CAS family in my strict-no-CAS Pleasantview.)
C: All the other technical stuffs already mentioned. Although a way to get around that, I imagine, is to upload the unpopulated neighbourhood and then the "included" families separately, making sure (if you're like me) to mention what lot is for which family and the background story.

I think uploading the neighborhood themselves and then adding families with their own plot lines separately would be a great idea that way people could pick and choose which families they wanted to keep and suggest which lots you play them in. So this way it'd be all up to the person playing. Also with all the custom content upload a copy of it separately that way people know what you are using so then they can decide whether it is too much cc for them or not.

Unfortunately, sharing a family that way can destroy your game, especially if the lot isn't cleaned properly:

Uhhh if you downloaded one of my neighborhoods, Your computer would explode. Just saying :P But in all seriousness, I assume it's because of the custom content. It would take forever for you to get it all together o:

I find the idea of sharing my personal sims whom I love with other people who could then do absolutely anything with them a little appalling. They might not let Ernest marry Sage Ann! They might not let Kitty and Goz have ridiculous numbers of children! They might raise Pigeon and Sparrow badly so that they grow up actively mean instead of just a little bossy and high-handed! They might make Greg straight!
Nope; it's bad enough finding out what awful things other people did with the handful of premades I'm using.

I think it would be a great idea. However, it would probably take up a lot of memory. Unless, there's a way to delete one of the towns that come with the game?

I would advise AGAINST deleting premade neighbourhoods.

There's no harm in deleting the premade neighborhoods if they're just taking up space and you don't want to use them. They're not linked to other neighborhoods so it's not going to mess anything up to do so. If you ever want to get them back, you can do so pretty easily - there's a FAQ in the help section about restoring them.

A weird question, but did they mean the template or the neighbourhood with all the people? :S

Nu-uh - I deleted them all years ago. I only have one neighbourhood in my game. Well, apart from my building neighbourhood with it's gazillion shopping districts. I take that out every now and again. The more neighbourhoods you have, the slower the load.
I have empty templates too - there's no way those blasted Maxis sims are ever coming back into my game.

i don't see a problem with taking out the hoods you don't want and moving them to a different folder so that then you would have quicker load times also, it was just a suggestion about the sharing of the families. If you just wanted to upload a neighborhood without the sims in them then that could be an option too. I think a explanation of what type of sims you have in it or whatever would give the player a good idea of what you do when you play. I think of it as sharing what you enjoy most when playing would be a cool way for new people to bond on here. Also, I think building a community neighborhood together would be fun. I think it should have a theme! Maybe starting from an old time like Victorian and moving through the times. Which would totally go with one of these challenges I think the prosperity one maybe. Anywho everyone could create a house or a community lot they wanted to see in it and this way the game wouldn't be laggy because people would only have what they want to download. Only requirement would be is to stick to whatever theme it is and to use the same template preferably something everyone has. And there could be a section for families you'd want to see in the hood and a style section to go with it to keep up with the fashion trends in the neighborhood.

WRONG. I've been deleting the premade neighborhoods for years. Perfectly safe. I do not have one premade hood in my game.

That site is similar to what I was thinking of but not exactly what I was thinking of. I would be interested in getting my idea up and running if i knew other people were interested in it and would contribute.

That must be true, no big deal if there's no CC. Although my sims would end up bald, and there would be some ridiculous inconsistencies. For example, I once needed to remove a fire truck from the Downloads, and noticed that my Fire Department's garages suddenly started to house sports cars.

This is why I think that uploading the cc used would be helpful so that if it was too much cc then the player could make thier own choices. Once I finish my town I don't mind uploading it and sharing it
Mootilda

To share the necessary CC, you'd have to get permission from all of the creators, and remove any that you didn't get permission to share. You wouldn't want to become known throughout the community for stealing other people's stuff. Of course, you could provide a "shopping list" for downloads that you didn't have permission to share on your own site.
Also, there's a big difference between missing CC which makes your game crash and missing CC which makes your sim bald. Baldness can be fixed. Crashing can be catastrophic.

I was thinking about sharing my town I've been working on for the past week or so building a bunch of lots and what-not. The thing that is really keeping me from actually doing so is the fact I have 1.31GB in pretty much all mods, some of the mods could be cut out, well, the majority of them really. Though, I might have done something to a lot somewhere that would make it all messed up without them..
I think that it has a good plot line to go with, having a founding family with 10 grown up kids who are going to grow apart as different families, with 2 Vampire, 2 Plant Sim, 2 Werewolf, 2 Witch and 2 Normal families, plus a couple normal families not related to the main one. So there is another thing I'll have to deal with - requiring pretty much all the EPs, which I know a lot of people don't have.

I'm always deleting and restarting premade 'hoods. In fact, I have a folder with regular premade hoods, and another for clean templates, if I want an empty Pleasantview.
