could anyone explain to me how to create a cliff side house built on a foundation, then utilizing multi-story pillars to support the house. Porkypine gave a bit of an example in a thread I found, but am unable to figure out what he was talking about. I have an idea for a house and would like to build it this way. I understand that the foundation equals one level, but can't seem to figure out how to carry the floor off the foundation to a two story pillar. Thanks for any help.

Well you could make the pillars out of foundation. If you first make the foundation stretch under the whole house (from the highest ground downwards), you can then knock out the sections of foundation you don't want, leaving two or more single-tile squares of it.

Thanks, but I'm wanting to go beyond that. It will give the house the look I want, if I can use the columns.

Can you link to the thread so I can see exactly what you mean?

Well I think you just edit the mountainside after you decide where the pillar is going, so that it reaches the underside of the house. You'll probably still have to start off by building a foundation under the whole house, then get rid of it under most of the house. When you remake the small bits of foundation at the bottom of the cliff, they won't be as high as they were when they were part of the main foundation.

I believe I've tried that. I could get the ground to the right height for the two story column to be at the correct level for the flooring that is on the foundation built at the top of the hill, but the game see's the floor as top of first story and the top of the two story column as the second story so it won't let you match the two up. I know it can be done but their is a trick to it that I just cannot figure out.

I'm not clear on exactly what you've tried, so -
Are you trying to add the columns before or after you've added the floors? I think that what you need to do is use walls in place of the columns until you have the structural parts of the building done, and then replace them with columns after you're done and have turned CFE off.
