View Full Version : Fencing with gates no longer working to make NPC doors on ground level?

I have been spending a long time building an apartment complex, and now I would like to place the NPC doors.

I know that in order to do this, you need to have an enclosed room (by walls or fencing), marked public outside of the door you want to mark. I previously (and successfully) created a town-home style complex and marked "outside" doors for npcs by fencing and gating around them, marking the inside of the fenced area as public.

However, in my latest project, for whatever reason, as soon as I place a gate or a door, I can no longer set the apartment door for NPCs. Without a gate or door, I can not enter my complex. I don't understand what has changed? :(

Is this broken now for creating the "vestibule" area before npc doors? Can we only use walls and doors since a patch or something?

Very sad, I already had to modify my design drastically to accommodate the vestibule area, and it is still not working. :help:

This is only happening to apartments on the ground level.

Wow, now that sucks. I tried it myself and nope, no NPC door if fenced.

I did get it to work on the first floor using a wall/door and making the door to the "hall" area the NPC door but the door to the actual apartment would not change so not sure NPCs would use the apartment.

Hopefully someone has seen something about it out there and knows how to make it work.

Have you tried first placing a wall where you wanted a fence, then placing the room markers, and then flagging the door to NPC door, and then REMOVING the additional wall? It could work. :)

cameranutz- thanks for taking the time to check that out. I appreciate knowing that it isn't just me.

Arisuka- I could try that. How would I know if it was correctly flagged? Play test for a few sim weeks?

Tried that too. It wouldn't let me change the actual apartment door to NPC, just the outside door that led to the hall.

Should note that I didn't have a problem making NPC doors on upper floors just the ground floor as yadarya noted in the OP.

Update:

I was able to get NPCs to move in on the ground floor by doing the following:

I marked all the rooms hidden/private as normal.

I marked the upper lvl NPC doors. I then moved the upper level NPC doors to the ground level, where I wanted them to be. I then replaced upper level doors that I removed and marked them for NPC as well.

The window to mark/unmark NPC door will never appear on the ground level this way, but I did have NPCs move in!!! YAY!!! :anime:
