So I'm trying to find a laptop to replace my Macbook Pro because it can't play the Sims 3 even though I thought it would. Learning from my mistakes, I am MAKING SURE I get a computer that will do what I want by asking for help from you guys.

I don't want to spend more than $800 because my boyfriend is buying it for me and he doesn't have much cash to spare. I will keep trying to get him to fork over more cash if needed though.

Anyways, I've been searching all day and I came across this Toshiba notebook. I heard that Toshibas are nice but if not let me know. I tried my best to see if what the site said would support Sims 3 but I'm still not sure about stuff like the motherboard or processor. This has a 2.4GHz processor and one of the threads said if I wanted Pets eventually I'd need at least a 2.5? And then I don't know whether the graphics card is supported. The thread I looked at didn't seem to have anything in the 500s but it's from 2009 so I thought they could've come out with newer better stuff.

I'm interested in the processors that are bigger because my major requires a lot of editing. But then my school has plenty of computer labs. I'm willing to sacrifice being able to do my schoolwork on my laptop for being able to play Sims 3. I can't handle not having it anymore.

Here's the link to the computer.

If not that then maybe this ASUS laptop?

The thread with suggested laptops for Sims 3 had a lot of ASUS ones listed??

I found two others that might work as well...maybe?

The last three links are broken.

The first laptop isn't a great buy. The CPU is fine, the RAM is a bit on the low side but would be workable, however the 525M is on the wrong side of "maybe" - it would play TS3, but probably not for long; you'd have to replace the laptop very quickly (a couple of years or less) if you wanted to keep up-to-date with patches and EPs, and you certainly couldn't play Pets.

$800 is a tight budget for a gaming laptop. You'll need to be looking at sales and special offers, and I'd also suggest contributing some of your own money so you can move into a better range performance-wise. Alternatively, since you already have a MacBook that you can presumably use for work/school, you might want to look into buying a desktop for sims, as you get far more bang from your buck with desktops and they last longer.

Oh I'm sorry. Hopefully these links work.

ASUS N82 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VWDQI2/sr=1-11/qid=1325281134/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1325281134&sr=1-11&seller=)

ASUS N53 (http://www.amazon.com/N53SV-XV1-15-6-Inch-Versatile-Entertainment-Aluminum/dp/B004L9M4QY/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1325282063&sr=1-7)

I would get a desktop but my boyfriend is taking my Macbook. He just broke his and he plans on paying for my new replacement laptop to compensate.

...anyone?

I'm interested in the processors that are bigger because my major requires a lot of editing.Editing what, exactly? Just documents, spreadsheets? High-resolution RAW images? Re-encode videos? Modelling in 3D applications? Would it need more than 8GB RAM?

Doesn't a Macbook cost more than $800? ;)
With the handy-dandy sliders to specify your criterias, narrowing your selection is so simple nowadays. But the same selection process apply no matter what websites you shop at.

Like whiterider said, with $800, your choices are pretty limited and you should check any high expectations at the door. If you noticed all of the GPUs listed on the NewEgg page that fit this budget do not perform well at all or has a "Maybe" for Pets. So, Caveat Emptor, huh?

Am I just late to the party or has those 2 Asus models been out of stock for a while?

Yeah. They're out of stock because I bought it. Heh. I went with my best hunch. This computer matches just about all the things mentioned in the sticky.
