Hi, I'm new here, so please forgive anything wrote down wrong, my apologies.

I just had my game randomly crash on me again, this makes about the 4th or 5th time this week. Its all at random times, and I'm not using anything different than I have in the past. 4 out of the 5 (I believe) times it seemed to happen was when I placed the game into speed number 2. I have checked my Sims Logs and have found nothing incorrect in them, so I am not sure what is going on; I have checked my system and it all seems to be perfectly fine. I have not had this issue in the past, but just over the last week to week-in-a-half it started up. I did just purchase the new Sims 2: Apartment Life game over the last two weeks, but I saw no problems with that when I installed it. And, truth be told, this had happened twice before I had bought that anyways, but not to this extent.

I do receive an error... But I will be honest, it doesn't say anything other than "This system has crashed. Please restart." or something to that extent. I did see that as one of the FAQ questions that ended up leading me to here, but I couldn't find anything else about it. Sorry if this is a re-post that someone else might have already posted about.

System Specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64x
Processor Type and Speed: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5700 @ 3.00GHz
RAM: 4.0 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT, RAM: 256mb (?), 8.17.12.7533 version
(old graphics card, I know; but money's tight, ya know?)

P.S. Can a moderator please delete my mis-posted post here: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=467459&goto=lastpost
Bwinney43 was kind enough to point me to the right location to post this in... :)

Idk anything about the system specs so I cant help you with that but when my game chrashed I tried to clear of any dust inside the chassis and also check so I had the latest device driver I think.. I'm sorry if I'm not to much help but have you checked so it's not any dust in the chassis (or on the graphics card)?

I normally would not have thought of doing that actually... But see, it's only in my Sims that it does that; I play many other games, and leave them going for hours on end, but they don't crash either. Thanks though, I am going to go check on my drivers and see if there's maybe an update I'm missing or something. Be back with an update.

You should probably try the Game_Help:Game_Problem. It will walk you through the steps to determine whether there's a problem with your CC, your save game, or your installation files.

Well, it appears that updating my graphics drivers from version 8.17.12.7533 to version 8.17.12.8562 'might' have fixed it; I have yet to have it crash on me, but I was only in it for about 1 hour - usually happens after about 3 or 4 hours of sitting there. Might have just gotten it fixed, will post here again if it crashes again (this time with a image of the error).

Thanks a TON guys!
Especially Eowyn24 for thinking of the drivers issue. :)

@Mootilda: Actually, I had ran into that area, it didn't help... Odd, I know, but it didn't. :/ Thanks though! :)

The first step is to see whether it's something about the game, especially since you aren't having problems with other games on the same machine.

Once you've ruled out the game, then the next step is to check your computer. If updating the drivers worked, then that's great. If you find your computer crashing again, you may be over-stressing it and there are things that you can do to reduce the stress on your computer. So, be sure to let us know when you've had a chance to run the game for longer.

OK, ran my Sims 2 for about 6 hours finally; not a single crash! :D
Apparently my drivers were the issue, thanks a ton for the advice. Two thumbs up, 5-Gold Stars and a Squidgy Prize to everyone! Hehe, don't ask... Inside joke, sorry.
