Downloading Issues

I recently downloaded a few files and went to extract the files, by accident i clicked open with adobe and they wont go onto the sims 3. I deleted then re-downloaded the file and everytime i download files now they download as an adobe file, i know how to change the program but they still wont work on the sims 3, does anyone know how i can stop the files downloading as an adobe/internet file?
Ive tried everything i could think of.

You want to be prompted at the web browser stage to be "always ask" (need browser name that you use) or remove the file association from Windows (need Windows OS version)?

Are you comfortable in editing Registry yourself or wanna rely on a 3rd-party tool? I cannot vouch for any tool I may suggest, however.
