View Full Version : Objects missing in CAW

Hello,
It is a question about some objects made by sims in game: paintings, fhotos, gems etc. After placing lots in CAW they disappear or turn to empty canvases.
Sculptures, relics and inventions stay still on but all the information about them is lost (price and creators name).
I have found this thread (http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=4237.0) with same problem (reply #18) but there is no decision for fixing it.
Is it possible to put the lot in CAW with all these objects? It's very important for me because every second lot is decorated by custom (sims) made paintings and photos.

The information for the paintings and photos is sim-specific and so is only stored in the save game, not in the world file. Therefore those items will revert to blank canvases when placed in a world file as there is no sim to claim ownership.
This is also true for the inventions- although the invention itself remains, the ownership/ creator detail cannot be saved in the world file since the owner does not exist.
Gems and harvestables are removed also; I found this out when trying to have a meteor-damaged lot in my world. The meteors and gems spawned on the lot just vanish when placed in a world.
It's seemingly not possible to have any of these items in a world; if you want these items in your world then you need to make a savegame with the sims who 'owned' the objects present.

I did figure out a method which allowed me to keep my gems in my museum. You have to make it a residential lot, place the gems by using the family on the lot, them evict them and make it a community lot. Or at least that's how I remember it. I did it a while ago, try it out and see.

I tried the metor shower save and had the same result...paintings too.
If you put spawners on a lot they add one of each every time you place that house on an empty lot, it seems. I just dug a hole and removed 10 fish spawners on one lot. Then again, it could have been rotating the lot during placement that caused it.

Yes, I have already done it. And it's easy to replace this lot in game (just delete and put from the bin again) if you have 1 or 2, but there is too many lots for replacing in my world that's why I post this question about them.

As far as I know such items (gems collections, meteors, paintings etc.) don't disapper by exporting lot only. That's why I have saved each lot as sims3pack.

Well I'm assuming there is no other way, so I guess in your case its best to replace them all as you described above :)

I'd be interested to see if you can find a way to get it to work; please let us know how it goes!
My 'holy grail' is to find a way to rename rabbitholes and have it save in a world file, so that when users play your world the rabbitholes are renamed how you want them. However, the only way currently is to have a custom rabbithole (clone and rename it) as debug renaming is stored in the save file and not in the world.

Do you mean rename the rabbithole shels or the lot itself?

The rabbithole shells, so that a custom name shows on the maptag. You can rename them in-game with a debug enabler mod, or by having a sim buy the lot. However, if you place a lot with renamed rabbithole in CAW, it loses the custom name since this information is stored in the savegame, not the lot file.
