View Full Version : Is there any way to make a sim act like a roommate?

In Sims 2 I loved searching for Roommates. They would screw up the house and live there autonomously and it was great. I was powerless to control them in any way.

Is there any way to do that in Sims 3? I want a sim who doesnt appear in the panel, functions autonomously, but still lives in the house and contributes to the funds.

Yeah that was an awesome feature! This would be great for sims3; any tips would be helpful!

I think there is a cheat in the game "ageuptoNPC" that will make a toddler a nonplayable NPC that lives in the house. I have no idea why anyone would want to do that, but the option is there. I've never used it, so it may just be a false rumor. Anyway, I guess using some cheats, you could find a character you wanted in the house and make him a toddler, then use the cheat and artificially age him back up.

Yes, it works that you can't control a sim that is used with the ageuptonpc, however with my personal experience with it, he would not do anything to satisfy his needs, and having his portrait background red. Idk if it my story progression or my pc, can't handle to control the specific sim to eat, sleep and etc.

Sort of a round-about approach to doing that I guess.

Personally, I would suggest simply using [MasterController Cheats]' "Advanced \ Selectability" to change the flag on the sim.

But will the unselectable sim go to work/advance in their career/raise skills/autonomously go off the lot to do stuff?

Or do I have to do Supreme Commander, THEN make them unselectable?

Rabbithole careers ? Yes, that is EA Standard. Self employed careers ? No, they will completely ignore those unless you have a progression system installed that handles such.

Inactives raise skills the same way active do, by using objects. If you have mods that push those interactions, or tune them to be autonomous, they will level-up in the same way.

Going off lot ? Again, depends on the mods you have installed. [StoryProgression] allows for such, I do not know about others.

Supreme Commander is a good choice if you want to keep them busy, however if you intend to use that system, why bother making them unselectable at all : Doing so will make no difference to [Awesome], since that macroing system works the same for actives and inactives alike.

Selectability is just too tempting to take control when things go awry.
