If this is in the wrong section feel free to move.

I was wondering if I could stop certain stuff showing in buy mode and instead have a collection for it? For example I don't want to see the christmas stuff with everything else as it gets less use and is better organised in my Xmas collection folder where I can get it all from the one place.

Yes you can. :D Start by putting all your stuff in collections. Double check, triple check, because once you remove it from the catalogue, you can't access it.

Next, open SimPE. I find for this bit, it's handy to have SimPE on one side of the screen and your Downloads folder on the other half, then you can drag files into SimPE to open them. Open the MESH for whatever item you want to hide. Click on OBJD (Object Data.) Untick the Function boxes BUT make sure there is a tick somewhere in the Room boxes or you won't be able to buy it at all. If there's more than one entry in the OBJD, check all of them. Just one missed tick will keep it in the catalogue. Commit and save. Hey presto, your object is in collections but not in the catalogue.

Oh cool. The dragging tip is great too I didn't know that. I suppose I could do the same for recategorising stuff that is in the wrong place too. Thanks a bunch.

Yup, it works perfectly for recategorising stuff too. No more poseboxes scattered in Hobbies, Electronics and General. ^^ Just be carefully when dragging files over that you only grab one at a time.

Be sure not to modify the game installation files, if you are working with shipped objects.

Oh ok Mootilda. I was planning to. For instance xmas stuff above or the mirrored medicine cabinet w/toothbrushing in decorative objects misc which I would prefer in mirrors. Maybe I shouldn't or is there a safe way to do it?

Oh, I thought it was going to be downloaded stuff. Well for game stuff, you could make a default replacement. Open the objects file that contains the stuff you want to recategorise. Extract the OBJD data and save it somewhere you'll remember. Make a new package and import all that OBJD data. Recategorise and save the file in your Downloads folder. That should do the trick and your original game files will be unedited.

Yes it is mostly for cc but some Maxis stuff annoys me. Like the xmas, kitchen and business stuff in decorative. The bird house and water fountains should really be in the garden centre. There are toys in the decorative section that could go in children's category. The sculpture and wall hanging folders are cluttered making it a task to find what you are looking for. Then with cc it's a real mess to find what I'm looking for.

Recategorising cc is very easy thanks to your method and I've been doing some cleaning. I'm not sure I follow on the maxis stuff. Do you mean make a copy then alter the game files?

Nooo, don't alter the game files. You extract the OBJD data by opening the game files, selecting the objects you want to change and right clicking. Don't rename it or anything. Then make a new file, add all that OBJD data to it and save it in Downloads. You can change the catalogue sorting for things and it will be a default replacement. If you then ever delete that file, the stuff will show up in its original places. It's pretty much the same as making a hider (there's a tutorial here with pictures: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=367162) except you don't remove all the function flags.
