Hello,

My system specs are I am running a MacBook late 2008 version 5,1 with 8gb of Ram and a 2.4 GhZ Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. Game runs very smoothly and looks good.

Game version - I am patched up to 1.33.

Games - I have every single expansion pack and stuff pack except for no Showtime. My most recent addition is Master Suite Stuff.

All of my custom content and mods work except for hairs. They used to make my Sims bald if I used them (the baldness occurred when the Ambitions expansion pack came out). Then I gave up with the game altogether and did not play for a while (this was around the time Late Night came out). I installed Late Night and played a little bit did not mess with hair. Then I took another break from the game and came back to it recently and installed everything up to Master Suite stuff but not Showtime. Now when I download a custom hair, regardless if it's a package file or a Sims3Pack file, it does not show up at all in the game. I am *only* having problems with hair as all other mods and downloads *seem* to work (I don't have a TON of custom content in my game so there's no way of knowing what all works, but the I've tried the Skip Intro and that works fine as well as several mods I play with, none of which have anything to do with appearance or should affect hair as far as I know). I did try uninstalling all of my mods and running the game with only custom hair and it did not work. The custom hair I have been trying is either from Mod The Sims (featured downloads with good feedback) or from PeggyZone and both are not working.

I know this has been a known issue since years ago when the Sims 3 first came out. I read somewhere that with Patch 1.26 the mac hair problem was fixed, and that with patch 1.29 it was broken again. I never played on Patch 1.26 as far as I know (perhaps with late night, but as previously stated I did not try to download any hair) so I cannot confirm or deny if that is true but I thought it would be worth mentioning that I read it somewhere.

When I google help with Mac custom hairs most of the the posts I find are from 2009, and I hope that maybe something has changed since then and someone can give me the up to date 2012 info about the never ending Mac Custom Hair drama. Thanks in advance any help is appreciated! If you need any more info for me or want me to run any tests I am happy to cooperate!

(I have not included any screenshots because the bald sims are no longer a problem since I can not even get the custom hair to show up. Sims that used to have custom hair now load with a different, random hairstyle so nothing visually appears odd).

It also might be worthwhile to mention that I tested several of these hairs on a friend's PC and they worked fine in his game. So this seems to be a Mac-only issue.

I am a new mac Sims 3 player so I've only ever been patched from 1.33. I am having similar issues. My cc hair does show up in the game and then periodically disappears. I have an early 2008 iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with 4GB Memory, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS and 418GB free disk space. I have the base game plus Ambitions and Late Night installed. This happens with cc hair and other cas part custom meshes, eg Blooms Sexy Feet Replacements, mesh replacement eyeballs, and S-Club's 3D Eyelashes. I have researched and found two fixes for this:

1. Clear all caches - http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Delete_Cache_Files. THIS NEVER WORKED FOR ME.
2. Start new game - http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:GCCTSU3_Start. THIS DID WORK FOR ME A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT DIDN'T THE LAST TIME I TRIED IT.

When researching, I too could only find information about this problem from circa 2009/2010, so I contacted a well-known cc hair creator and they were very helpful. They explained that there was an issue with cc hair made in TSR Workshop which caused it to not show up properly on macs. There was a TSR Workshop fix which solved the problem - I don't have a date, but I do know that I don't have a problem with some cc hair and these were created (according to the upload date on TSR) after December 2010.

I could try avoiding any cc content made prior to December 2010. I could try running the game without any cc which I would be happy to do if the offering from EA wasn't, in my opinion, so nasty. However, my experience running Sims 3 on a Mac has been so poor, I am now in the process of setting up Windows 7 under bootcamp. My game constantly crashes and asks me if I want to debug, I suffer lag, long loading times, and cannot access many of the great EA and third-party tools which make the game so much better, eg CAW and alternative launchers/cc checkers. I understand the logic behind why Sims 3 runs so poorly on Mac (not native, cider, etc), but I wish the support was better. I have spent so long trying to figure this stuff out by myself. I'm still not sorted - maybe bootcamp won't be the answer - who knows?

I wish you luck!

Bootcamp might indeed be the answer to many of your issues. I switched almost a year ago and can tell you the difference is quite significant. I can play saves that had become unplayable on the Mac side, hardly any stuttering, all cc works, free will is suddenly like it's supposed to be and while before I had time jumps of 2-5 second intervals which forced me to use twallan's Relativity to play at all these have almost completely gone.
