One thing that bugs me is how easy childbirth is. I think it would be awesome if somebody could make a mod so that comfort and energy needs plummet during childbirth. I also figure that could lead to death by childbirth if other motives were already low, which seems realistic.

There used to be a glitch were a pregnant sim would suddenly drop dead after giving birth, but it got fixed with the University patch.

No it wasn't after giving birth. If a pregnant sim ever visited another lot as a non-controllable (walking by another residential lot or visiting a commercial lot), the game would give her a death token and she would die the next time you played her lot.

Wait what? My pregnant sims needs DO go down faster then a non-pregnant sim. Unless its a side effect of inteen. Also inteen makes it so they have miscarriages (if you want) if their needs go down too low if thats something you want to add to the game.

The needs of a pregnant Sim already go down faster than normal. I can't tell you how many times the stupid pregnant Sim is yellow in hunger and sleep and is playing computer games instead of eating and sleeping.

My pregnant sims needs go down especially energy, bladder, hunger, and when she blows chunks her comfort level goes down now in my opinion when she has twins her needs go lower faster and if you don't watch her needs she'll die.

You could always roll a die (virtual or real) and pick a number that if rolled, means the sim will die during childbirth. It's an interesting way to add drama to a family. I like virtual 20 sided dice for deciding random deaths, that way it happens, but it doesn't happen super often.
As for if you want your pregnant sim to remain uncomfortable for a little while after the birth, you can try boolprop testingcheatsenabled true and manually drag their energy and comfort bars down to your liking. I'd drag down their hygiene too (as a woman who recently gave birth for the first time, I can say that would definitely help make it more "real").

I had an elder who mysteriously got pregnant and then all of a sudden just dropped dead after the birth . . . after throwing up for a while. Weird. But I've never had *that* happen. The die roll is something I do too - that and for abortion/adoption/keep . . . and other stuff like how many kids, etc. And if you want some real "fun" set up an orphanage and when they're all teens just have somebody pick up a hacked gun and kill 'em all.
. . . I swear I am not a sadist.

During pregnancy. The OP was talking about childbirth. Actually popping out the baby doesn't have any dramatic affect on motives, unlike real life.

Perhaps sims have hefty doses of painkillers for the birth and float around on endorphins afterwards. But yeah, hygiene should take a hit. Painkillers kept my motives up in childbirth, but you can be damn sure the first thing I did afterwards was take a bath!

I dunno, seems to me my Sim ladies take a bit of an energy hit when giving birth.

I agree on the hygiene side of things, giving birth is one messy act. It's always puzzled me that the baby itself doesn't come out with it's hygiene in the red. Just seems wrong to me so all newborns in my game get a bath right before they are then fed regardless of their actual needs.

Ah but in the sim world, babies just appear out of thin air rather than sliding down the birth canal so wouldn't be dirty. At least sims don't pull them out of their butts like they do with brooms, rakes and pruning shears.
