View Full Version : What do you do with your children?

What do you do with your children when they grow up? Do you let them stay in your house and have babies or do you give them their own house and let them go from there?
What do you do?

That's up to you completly how you play, if you don't have any mod that allow more then 8 sims in household, sooner or later some one must move out.

Because it drives me up the wall if there are too many Sims in a household, I keep one at home with the parents and move the other ones out when they become young adults.

RIght now in my current challenge, I move the kids at some point beetween teen and adulthood. Then I abandon the parents and play the kids. In the "nothing is free" challenge, my attitude is .. who cares about the parents once they earn their building?

In my legacies I will select one of the children to take the focus of my game. He may continue to live with the 'rents for awhile, but unless the 'rents pass on soonish, he will have to move to his own place. Sometimes he and a brother will move out together; I don't enjoy playing a household with only one sim.

I age up to child in most legacies, throw them into boarding school then play them as teens,

I hate kids. I loathe the little buggers in real life, and I try REALLY hard not to play them in TS3. But....I DO make sure they at least hit some of the milestones before I age them up. The only time I just go straight to YA is when I intend for the sim to be a social misfit of some sort. The only kids that escape Chocklit's Plague are the children of the TWO legacy families in my city.

I usually get sick of them and ship them off, or get them taken away. Little bastards.

I actually haven't put any kids in boarding school yet cause most of the kids I have in my game are part of a legacy so I get pretty attached by the time they're toddlers. But usually all I do is get them friends and work on their skills (I usually have their whole career and life mapped out before they're even born. It's a bit sad how far I plan) and collect/fish and make some money for the family. At least be some use until they age up and can actually do things.

Nothing, I fucking hate kids.

I enjoy playing big families, so I usually have many kids around. I don't put them into boarding school because I like playing with my sims. I tend to have the kids play with many of the items that came with GEN, only occassionally building skills.

I sell them to the gypsies.
Wait, did you mean my SIM kids?
1st May 2012, 05:39 AM
What? I don't even play with kids.
1st May 2012, 01:47 PM
I let twallan's SP do it's thing which usually means they move out on their own and get on with their life.
I don't micromanage my families. They do as they please when they please with whomever they please...just like RL.
Since my legacy family is really the only one I play I switch households frequently to see what everyone is up to.

I kick out the ones I don't want to play, and move out with the one that I do. Unless I'm playing in a big family estate, then everyone sticks around for a bit longer because there's room enough for everyone.
My current family is raising twins in a studio apartment. I might just make them all stay there after growing up, out of sadism.

When it comes to sims, I'm pretty ruthless. So the prettiest/best-traited one stays and the others move out, usually together unless I've let them have significant others. This of course is the continuation of the favoritism and heir/spares-idea that they grew up in, as the heir always got his/her wants and wishes, and spares...well, they are either in private school or they have after-school activities for every possible day. Due to this all my children grow up with fair amount of skills though, because my idea is that if the heir dies the spares have to pick up the mantle.

The one I have the best "idea" for I usually keep in the house and marry in a spouse if there is room. Sometimes also just have a baby and then the parents watch the baby while that sim is at work. If there's not room then I just move it out as a single sim, or houseshare with one of the siblings :) Then I usually don't play the other sibling much.
The others I marry off and move elsewhere. Never kill them off unless I want it as a story.

When they grow up, I send them packing. No way are they mooching off their parents. Plus, I don't really like having more than two Sims in an active household. I'll tolerate a child if he/she isn't too annoying, though.
1st May 2012, 08:30 PM
I don't know why, but I like playing some families with children more than others. Some children I ignore entirely, which I guess is probably the case for everyone who has tons of families to manage. But some kids really appeal to me for whatever reason. The adopted daughter of my gay couple I played through childhood and her teen years -- a real first. Now that she's a young adult, though, I like her less.

What do I do with my children? Well, let's see... after their daddy goes to work, I lock them all in the basement while I watch .....Oh! Wrong thread. Sorry.
2nd May 2012, 12:00 PM
Uuuugh kids, well to quote from another thread, I either, if I have a male sim get one of the townies preggers and get them to raise the child in their family until it's a child, then I marry the mother and ship the child off to boarding school til it's a YA. I only ever have one sim kid at a time, because I don't like my genes getting spread around the town without me managing them and since I have Twallan's SP mod, all the sims are inbred anyway, so I might end up with all the good-looking sims being my sim's cousin etc. Other times I just use the time machine to get grown up kid, or I put the baby in the Butler's room and let them take care of it.

Ah? My kids?? Uh, er, well..better not talk about them. I forgot where did I sent them to.. Bye..
2nd May 2012, 11:48 PM
Put them in an arena and see who comes out alive.
Only one survives.
My name is President Snow.

Cheezy Crackers you guys are cold-hearted child haters!
I don't mind the kids so much; I'm a baby hater, myself. :^) Can't wait to age up the little thumb-sucking curtain climbing buggers.
4th May 2012, 06:45 PM
Because someone has to post it.
4th May 2012, 06:58 PM
 Wow so many of you are children haters. In real life AND in the game...
I like playing families, I also like making my real family (I have two kids.) The child stage is nice since it gives you more freedom than with a toddler, but they can have more relaxing time than a teen (if you give them a job) it's a great time to work on some skills.
4th May 2012, 10:22 PM
I loooove Toddlers soo much! :lovestruc and kids just generally! They are so cute and seeing a new life ready for all the adventures of sims 3 makes me just happy. :luff: If I could I'd want lots of kids in reality but I can't. Not to mention I bet it would be tough since it's already tough in sims :p
and I also love that baby grill
5th May 2012, 09:52 AM
I was joking, to calm the worried Simmers. I don't really like children and babies (I find them annoying), though I would never actually harm them :P
5th May 2012, 10:20 AM
This was one of the big perks of TS2 PlantSims for me. You skip the pointless baby stage, get a few days with a cute little toddler, and move right along to the adult stage. Child and teen stages annoy me to no end.
