View Full Version : Cannot change elevation of graveyard lot, says there's something in the way

SO, on Sims 2 (obviously) I decided to create a sort of haunted house type lot.. So basically I made a family of 8 sims and put them all on the lot and used various ways and objects to kill them all. Once they were all dead, I did the exact same thing again with a new family of 8. During the process I also managed to kill the social worker, via the boolprop testingcheatsenabled true cheat and the tombstone of death. After the lot no longer had any living sims, I got the message from the grim reaper and whatnot, and it went pretty much into build mode. At this point, I deleted all of my "death" rooms and objects, with the exception of Rodney's tombstone of death (That's the one surrounded by water), and moved all of the graves and urns to the back of the lot. Here's what it would then look like:

Okay, so no big deal right? Just a normal lot with a bunch of tombstones. (Ignore the snow, I made it winter to freeze some sims to death) So then I saved it and went back to the neighborhood, cause I know trying to build on a dead lot can cause some issues. Then I went back in to it in lots & houses mode, and had a quick glitch where a few ghosts turned up as a family in live mode (I think about 3 or 4 of them,) but this went away in a few seconds. So now I was ready to build my "haunted house". I started out as usual, getting the height of the basement measured and ready. (If you already know how this would look, don't bother checking out these pictures):

Once that was done, I started flattening out the basement ground so that I could put the foundation in. This was where I began to encounter some issues. Photo:

I found that there were two 1x1 squares on the grid that still had 'something' occupying them. (This is the most important image):

The 2 Squares (http://www.flickr.com/photos/60080542@N08/7178215708/in/photostream)

When I tried to flatten the terrain, those two spots wouldn't go down. (And this is probably the second most important.. Sorry for all the links, I'm clueless about attaching photos):

Now, I know I can use the boolprop constrainfloorelevation cheat to override this, but that would cause issues placing floors and walls later. Anyways, so I switched my viewing modes to see if there were some ashes or something in the way, but there wasn't!! There's nothing on the 2 squares.. And I proved this by successfully placing furniture on them. No cheats used to place this chair on it:

However, when I try to build foundation or walls on them, it says that I can't level the terrain, or that it is occupied:

Walls (http://www.flickr.com/photos/60080542@N08/7178170666/in/photostream)

I have no clue why it's doing this. Only those 2 spots. I thought maybe it was because someone had died there or something, but people had literally died allllllll over the lot, and as you can see, the rest of the lot's fine:

Does anyone know how I'm able to get rid of this glitch, or a cheat I can use to place foundation and walls over them? I really don't want to have to go through the effort of killing everyone again.. Any ideas?? Thanks! ~Nadia

Probably stuck tombstone tokens. Not uncommon at all. Solution: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,1609.0.html

Your bigger issue is that you used cheats to kill the Social Worker and have thus corrupted the neighborhood. :(

Place the foundation from the top down and it won't try to level the ground. I don't think it's possible to place foundations on a slope without cfe enabled though.

I would be much more worried about my game turning into a fire ball from killing the SW then basement troubles. The SW is one of the NPC’s you do not touch.
The object remover only works in live mode. Boiling Oils mod 'No Sim Loaded' might fry the tokens in build mode, although that too may need live mode.

Oops, good point. I think the batbox can remove the tokens but needs live mode as well.

Well I've killed NPCs before with Rodney's tombstone of death or whatever, with no issues.. And thanks!!! I used that stuck object remover thing, ( http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,1609.0.html ) and it's all fixed now!! Yeah I know you have to be in live mode, I just moved a new sim in then killed them off.. But now I'm worried about killing the social worker... What will that do to my game?

These things frustratingly always need a sim to be able to click on them which is why I thought of no sim loaded since it's automatic, but it may not even fry tombstone tokens. Is the SW a universal? If so basements should be the least of OP's worries. Somehow I wish the game came with neon lights saying :alarm: 'Don't mess with these NPC's!'

From second post:
There are certain NPC's such as Crumplebottom, Grim and others, maybe the SW who are not real sims but objects and if you make them selectable or kill them you are altering something in your installation files. It can not only mess up a hood but the entire game. Just because something doesn't go kaboom right away doesn't mean it isn't brewing. Like an old wine but not nearly so good.

Okay now I'm frightened.. Really? I've killed the social worker numerous times, and currently have a family that has the grim reaper as part of it.. What should I do?

If you go over and read the thread (rather long thread-sorry) About what NPC's are safe to make selectable/kill, you will see that Mootilda explains how Grim is an object and that it makes changes to the object.pacage. Each EP and SP has one under C drive (Or whatever drive you installed on) programme files/EA Games/Each EP and Stuff pack/TS Data/Res/Object folder. If the date has changed to something fairly recent that is from what you did in game. I believe if M&G is the only one that that got changed you can copy it from the disk and swap it out with the damaged one because M&G was never patched. You don't want to do that with patched object.packages files. After that you will want to make sure those files are read-only. Although I knew not to touch those NPC's I only just recently learned why myself. So I try and share that wherever I can to hopefully save someone from blowing their game up.

The thread is here:http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=349317

Okay, but my folders say none of them have been recently modifed. .

I would ask Mootilda about that. I don't think you should be able to make selectable/kill off if those files are already read-only.

Okay, thanks for the help!!

The social worker is not a universal NPC. However, she has incomplete character data and cannot be played successfully. My guess is that it's OK to kill her, although that's just a guess based on other ghosts with incomplete character data, such as many of the ancestors.

Cool, so she won't cause any issues with my game?? The lot's still kind of buggy, but it's playable

That's good she isn't a universal, but Grim is.
