View Full Version : Organizing Custom Hair?

Hello All,

For a while now I've been renaming/correctly color binning/etc custom hair so that I can be rid of a lot of original textures and only keep retextures and recolors. All hair is organized in specific folders of the creator, Example:

...EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads/Hair/Newsea... or peggy, or sky sims, etc.

My problem is, though I rename the hair such as "Newsea Jennifer dynamite"
And all the other Jennifer hairs follow it in alphabetical order in the folder- when running the game/Bodyshop they do not show up in that order. There will be other hairs between the Jennifer hairs etc.

I was wondering since renaming the hair file doesn't seem to have the affect I want it to, will renaming the hair mesh make them better organize in order?

Hope I didn't confuse anyone. It's just very hard for me to work on video projects when I'm constantly searching through thousands of hairs to find a single recolor. Any help would be appreciated. This also applies for other CC too, such as Accessories. Is there anything I can do to change this?

NOT: I'm not very Simpe smart (hopefully I don't need to use it) but I do use Wardrobe Wrangler to bin the hair, not sure if it has a function for ordering.

EDIT: I thought I'd add that my Hair Meshes are located in my:

...EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads/Hair Mesh/ Folder. They have this far been untouched.

I've seen questions like this asked before, but I don't recall ever seeing an answer. I have vague recollections of once reading that the catalog order has something to do with a number assigned by the creator or automatically generated at the time the package was first created—basically, it seemed like it wasn't something easily changed after the fact. I could be *totally* wrong about this though. I've also wondered and have some items I'd love to be able to sort properly as well.

Hope someone who knows better (or at all) can chime in.

Good to know another organized Simmer. :) It's been a while since I've checked this post but I'd thought I'd mention that I've figured out a possible work around. I'm the same with my hairs as I am with my Accessories. It's very annoying to search through all of the pages to find one specific item so I've took the time to organize each accessory in a specific folder. Example:

...EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads/Accessories/Teeth... or eyes, Jewlery, hats, etc.

Doing this organized them folder-wise, but not bodyshop-wise. So I added numbers infront of the folders. So now it's more of a:

...EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads/Accessories/1. Teeth... or 2. Eyes, 3. Jewelry, 4. Hats, etc.

This actually organizes the Accessories by the contents in the folder in the number order. For some reason it does opposite numbering so what I marked as folder number 1 in reality will show up last in my accessories catalog. This way you will know that your hats are behind your eyes lashes, or what have you.

Not sure if this topic has been discussed but I'll look more into it. Thinking if I number my hair folders I will see similar results. I'll check back in to share more. Pretty excited!
