"You wake up in a dark alley, not knowing anything. What has happened anyway? You struggle after the truth and answers. Answer you want to know in the darkness and fear, which makes your heartbeat race like violent blows against your head. Where do "they" come from? What has happened? Are you turning insane? The time is up; you can't stay there reading your senses forever. It's time to head out and find the answers."

So what is this?

Cry of Fear (http://www.cry-of-fear.com/index.php) is a full conversion modification of Half-Life 1, created by Team Psykallar, the same team behind Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut (http://www.moddb.com/mods/afraid-of-monsters-dc) and Resident Evil: Cold Blood (http://www.moddb.com/mods/resident-evil-cold-blood)

Cry of Fear features over 8 chapters running over a story about a young man called Simon, who is plunged into a nightmarish world after finding himself in an alleyway, the main goal over the course of the game to try and return home, which is a long, long way to reach.

So what's different from Half-Life 1?

Alot. It's often joked that Cry of Fear thinks it's a source mod - several new graphical and engine effects have been added in, including blur, water shaders, bump mapping, spec mapping, normals etc. There are also improvements and additions in gameplay, including an Resident evil-like inventory system, ironsights, dodging, a stamina gauge, along with several more changes.

The most major addition is a fully-supported multiplayer, which allows up to four players to fight their way through a campaign which goes alongside the main singleplayer storyline. Along with multiplayer campaign mode, there is also a survival mode, four players fighting against endless waves of enemies until all 4 are dead.

As a note, all the graphical changes and additions were made with the intention of being used only on OpenGL mode.

Is this for me?

Play through the prologue first and then we'll talk. The prologue is normally the point where players either continue or stop playing altogether, scared.

Just wanted to talk about it here, since it's a really great HL1 mod. I'm playing through it right now and it's good.

I haven't played this game, but I've watched a playthrough of it on YouTube by PewDiePie! If you haven't watched his video's you have to they are too funny. The game looked great, real creepy, and a pretty good story!

Thanks for this! I actually have Half Life 1 somewhere in my old desk that was never thrown away. Wonder if it will actually run on Windows XP 64 bit. This is good timing, because I've reached a point in Gothic 1 where it is always freezing. Yeah, Half Life 1 was a very good game even though the physics were strange and the wierd design of balancing on vats and areas accessible only by jumping on pipes.

And for those of you who have Half Life 2:
