View Full Version : OFB toys easy?

I am soon going to experiment with making a sims 2 daycare, and I want to use the OFB toys (made with the crafting station) in it. HOWEVER....I do not want to wait for the toys! It takes a long time for one sim to get enough badge skill to make all the toys, especially when she has to take care of many babies and toddlers at the same time! So is there a store in the game where these are sold? Can she go to my other sim's home business where they sell all the toys (as I have taken the time there to get a servo up to gold badge)?

IMG, Jason Larson married a Bluewater Village townie with a gold badge in toymaking. BWV townies tend to have badges of varying levels, so making them playable means free access to the benefits. So you can try that.
Also drinking certain juices from Seasons gives badge points.

StrangeTownChick , you can also use the "Boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" and shift/click on your sim ; then choose the 'badge juicer'...then your sim can have a gold badge in toy making , as well as other badges.
Hope that helped. :)

Townies are assigned with random badges, so there's chance that other townies the same Sim marries will have different badges. Juice only gives very few points for badge, so it's rather useless.
If you want to use cheats, I suggest entering "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true", shift-clicking your Sim, and then choose "Spawn..." "Badge Juicer". Then click on a little boat and choose whatever badge you want to be gold. After that, turn off the cheat by changing the "true" to "false".

Thank you for clarifying; nikel.

Excuse me if there's a basic flaw in my reasoning here. I haven't played OFB features much yet.
Have your playables invite the daycare owner over, open the business, and try to sell them the toys?
Your playables can go to the businesses of other playables; why not have one of your toymakers set up a small owned community lot? There's no reason you have to go in for a lot of infrastructure if they're cash-strapped; just buy the smallest available lot and install the minimum amount of stuff needed to sell the toys. If you enjoy it you can then use the money gained to upgrade the lot; if you don't, you can resell the lot and recoup the investment.

thanks guys, I think I will use the badge juicer but I do like Peni's idea, I'll have to have her set that up sometime!

One of the EPs allowed giving gifts. I don't know if servos have inventories, but if they do and you can give gifts to other sims, you can invite your sim to the servos' house and transfer the toys to her that way, too.

I believe you can also use the SimBlender to award badges; I know you can use it to give skill points.

Yes, I was just doing this yesterday on the blender as I wanted a water wiggler. It's kind of hard to find, under 'more'. I just set Dora Ottomus to gold badge and made a few on speed three with max motives.

Thanks guys and one more question: I think having a gold badge will make them make toys faster, but I am not quite sure. Will it? Because I haven't played the family with the gold-badge servo in awhile, and I never really watched her when I did. But I've been watching a bronze-badge toymaker in the same neighborhood, and he seems to go sooo slooow with his firetruck-making. So does the gold badge make toys pop out faster?

You may also be able to find a mod which makes the OFB toys buyable. I believe that there's one on MTS. However, I don't believe that it works with all EPs.
No, I do not believe that the gold badge makes toymaking faster. That would require another mod. I believe that there's already a WCIF thread for a mod like this.
[Update:]
Here's one of the buyable OFB craft mods:

You'll have to read the comments to determine whether it works for other EPs. An alternative is to use the AnyGameStarter to create an AnyGame which has the appropriate EPs, create the lot, add the toys that you want, then package that lot and add it to your existing neighborhood.
Here's the WCIF thread:

I believe there's a buyable water wiggler here, that is usable by more ages (includes toddlers, I think).
Found it: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=284093 .

Higher talent badges actually make toys requiring lower badges to be made faster. Sims with gold toymaking badge should make sir bricks a lot much faster than the ones with no badges.

What I don't think has been addressed in this thread is that making things at the craft benches is affected by the maker's skills. I don't remember them all, but I do know that flower-making goes faster when the maker has high Creativity, for instance.
There's bound to be a chart with this info somewhere.
Found this on Yahoo answers, so take it for what it's worth. Supposedly taken from the Prima Guide.
Talent Badge - Badge-Accelerating Skill - Skill-Accelerating Skill
Cosmetology - Cleaning - Neat
Flower Arranging - Creativity - Playful
Register - Logic - Serious
Restocking - Body - Active
Robotery - Mechanical - None
Sales - Charisma - Outgoing
Toy Building - Mechanical - None
