... or at least try to.
Is there anything I should know?

Lots and Lots. Check the Create forum for help if ya need it. There are also plenty of other forums out there with help info. It isn't an easy thing to do so ya shouldn't expect it will be.

Good Luck to ya!

It's probably going to be very difficult (seeing as how only a handful of people seem to upload custom worlds here). But I'm just going to make a small island which will hopefully be easier to make than a huge mountainous place. Thank you :)

If you are planning to upload a world here you need to take a long hard look at the guidelines found here...http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Sims_3_Worlds

You should also make use of the Creator Feedback forum for input from other members. Getting a world approved for upload isn't easy so that forum can be very useful to make sure you are doing what it takes.

The world was mostly going to be for me, but I guess I could upload it if it ends up meeting expectations!

EDIT: Well this dream has been stopped short by the mere fact that the version of CAW that I downloaded from the EA website itself is "Not Up to Date." How can that be?
It tells me to uninstall it and get the latest version, but there are two problems with that.
First Being: I don't know how
Second Being: Where would I get an up-to-date version? If the Sim's official website doesn't have it, who will??

If the one currently on the website is not up to date, you will have to wait until EA updates it which could be in a few days or a few months based on previous patches. Uninstall is easy. Just go to your start program and find Create a World...then click on the uninstall. Or you can uninstall it from your control panel.

If you like working in CAW, be warned that patches often end up breaking it. Don't patch immediately when a new patch comes out. They do update eventually, but it can take a while. Don't give up your dream entirely; just put it on hold until the updated CAW is out.

Yeah, I figured it out lol. I've had to use Macs for so long, I had forgotten how great, easy, and simple pcs can be sometimes, even though they ARE more prone to viruses. Lame.

Aw, thanks xD
I'll wait and watch patiently for the updated CAW

On the general topic of worlds, does anyone know if someone has ever attempted to create a real-life place using CAW? I think it would be interesting to do something like that.

You should know that the CAW tool was designed specifically to raise my blood pressure to a critically dangerous level.

Octavia, LA, New York, Las Vegas, and San francisco are in beta stages, theres a london, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo already made. The links are here (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=3833584#post3833584)

Google a place name and sims 3, someone somewhere has probably at least tried to make it.

Things you need to know about creating a world
All the tutorials are on this site, or google
You want 200 lots maximum really for your world (any more causes lag on slower PCs), and for maximum gameplay, at least 50 of those lots are community lots (rabbitholes, plus all the lot assignments from each EP)
You want less than 200 sims to prevent lag,(that includes NPCS) and as the game generates sims to fill all the residential lots, say a households of 4 are generated, that means any more than 50 residential lots and you have a problem (this could be avoided by pre-packing sims into your world before you upload, theres a tutorial on MTS)

Terrain painting takes aaagggeeess. Some how Ouerbauer makes it look easy, and he posted a tutorial on his Reyes County WIP if you want to take a look :)

Good Luck

I was planning on making a small (hopefully) lag-free island with as few community lots as possible, so possibly using the combined buildings from Night Life.

As I am taking each and every person's advice, I will gather scented candles, comfortable chairs and blankets, and play comforting zen music. I will also have a massaging thing on the chair, nourishing food, Advil, and a punching bag in case of emergencies put on the side.
