I'll throw this out there, since it's been three days with no entries...

I would love to enter, but I mainly play and build in Sims 2. I have lots that I could enter on that side of the game, but I don't have anything for Sims 3. Perhaps if you expanded the contest to include both games, you could get some entries. I'm not seeing anything in the contest itself at the moment that would exclude TS2 players.

ETA: I see the part about building to the Sims' traits. I still don't see a reason why TS2 couldn't participate, knowing the traits to keep in mind.

Sorry, apparently I'm a keener. :)

When you say "designed yourself", are you meaning floor plan and all?

I would love to enter this competition but I am on holiday from 30 June to 14 July, without access to my computer. Is it worth me submitting an application entry? I am a sims 2 builder.

Thanks

Actually, it is both. Lovelydia as graciously accepted that both games can be used to enter. The rules are set in such a way that neither game should have advantage over the other. Even with the traits system, you're not actually putting a sim in the house, you will just need to be mindful of whether they are athletic, love the outdoors, etc, etc and imagination goes a long way in creation.

So, both The Sims 2 and The Sim 3 players, come on down!!!

Don't "quick reply" but "go advanced". There you need to copy paste the link that a picture hosting website has given you.

Why I would like to enter:

I can build, no problem. I have extensive knowledge of all the tools, how to exploit them, how they work, and more. However, by the time I finish on the house itself, I leave it to sit idle for months at a time because I -hate- furnishing with a passion. Hopefully a little bit of competition can change that!

I'm sorry if this question is silly, I reread a few times to make sure but I couldn't tell. When you mean CC's are aloud do you mean only use your own CC's or are using other CC's from this site okay. And if they are aloud from other people on the site do we have to point out what and who's stuff was used?

Edit: Sorry Realized I had another question after I posted, Anyway would we use the world editor or the main game for this?

Shhh
25th Jun 2012, 11:32 PM
@ Auradria, Using other people's custom content is allowed. I think you might have to point out whose stuff was used if the creator wants that. They usually say whether you can use it as you wish or if they want credit.

Hi,

I want to join because I have been doing floor plans and house design since TS2. I just LOOOOVE watching a floor plan come to life. The house that I choose is a TS2 design that I modified for TS3. It is an open floor plan with 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, pool and play area for the kids outside.

Why I want to join:
Creativity flourishes within bounds.
Like many builders, I will start a lot then leave it for dead in my "Lot Nursery", because the lot serves no purpose.
I hope to change that by competing.
My style is quirky-compact, often resulting in apartments, town homes, and duplexes (as pictured above),
Thus I have something different to bring to this compotition.

You ARE allowed to have more than 10 contestants you know.
You do not need 20 contestants for a successful contest. Many people close down their contest because there are only a few contestants who enter during the Application Round. As long as you have at least 10 contestants, you still have a good competition.(emphasis mine)

Hi there! I'd like to enter the contest. I haven't done one of these contests before, but I really enjoy building. It would be even more fun to show off what I've made, and I'm really interested to get feedback and suggestions from others.

Here is a house I made for a rich musician named Brad. He likes to garden in his spare time.

And this is his bedroom. Directly behind the camera is the little balcony where he can go out and stargaze through his telescope.

Why I want to join:

This is the first competition I've joined and like to take this opportunity to get to know the community a little more. Designing houses is actually the main reason I play the Sims 3, as there is such a variety of options. The other reason why I'd like to join is because it will provide inspiration for both myself and others. :bunny: I think I may have attached my photos twice... Sorry for that. :duck:

Here is my entry to the competition. I'm a Sims 2 builder :)

Reason for entering:
I love building and creating all types of lots for Sims from residential to community. I love seeing how the home that I build comes from nothing to something that sims would like to live in. I like my homes to be reasonably realistic too.

Note: I am on holiday from 30 June to 15 July and won't have access to my game, so if I'm lucky enough to be picked can I have an extension please?

So here is the outside of Luton House and and the Master Bedroom Suite (it has a seating nook in the corner, which you can't see, there is a door off to the left which, leads to the bathroom and dressing room).

I think I'll go for this one~ I haven't taken part in a competition here yet
This monstrosity is a recent victorian mansion I built, 'twas for a friend's rather large household... Not sure if you wanted us to build a NEW house or just showcase one we already had, but I really like this one (victorian style is fun!) so I thought it'd be nice to show off.

Here's the front, please ignore the lines on the roof, it's a technical glitch, I'd written a mod that fixed it but I haven't updated it yet so I don't want to use it and take any chances with 1.33... (last time I did that I lost all my saves D: )

Warning: she asked for the house to be built in reds, whites, and pinks, so if you're not manly enough for it, shield your eyes now!

http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/2379/screenshotfyi.jpg

And here's my favorite room, I love to cook, so I bring you the kitchen! Excuse schoolgirl sim, she won't leave the chair for some reason D: So I just took the screenshot with her. (BTW the stove and fridge are there but not pictured...I liked it better at this angle but then I couldn't feature them, they're colored just like the rest of the kitchen and there's cabinets over them)

http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/9418/screenshot4go.jpg

Why I want to enter:
I love building, and I build all my friends' houses for them, but I'm a horrible interior decorator! It's really hard not to put everything in a straight line, my friends say it's just a personality trait of mine but it's really annoying! I thought maybe a competition like this one would help me improve!

I hope you like~

The contestants list is up and soon i'll post round 1. I'm sorry for the people who didn't get in it's my first time and I kinda want to make sure I don't muck anything up so have only 10 contestants would help me with that. Round 1 will have traits wich is a sims 3 feature but is easy to understand but if any of the sims 2 contestants don't really get it I'll be happy to help or give a sims 2 list.

Ohooh, too bad I missed this and am too late to participate. Would have been fun.
I have an idea for the people that noticed too late also or did not make it to the first round. Bút I want to ask first here. I don't want to step on any toes.
I would like to participate 'on the side' and for everyone that wants to do that outside of the contest.
It means we follow the requirements that are given here for the round. (See round 1 that is already up)
But just for fun without the house being judged by a jury ánd we post in a different topic, certainly not here.
There will be no special day to deliver/post your house in the to be started topic. You can do from when the topic starts until round 2 is coming up. Then go on with that. But if you only want to do one round, that is oké too. No obligation to do all rounds.
If that is oké with the contest starter and contestants I open that topic so everyone, who wants, will have fun with it.

I haven't entered a building competition in a little while, I'm a little bored! LOL Besides, I love designing, building, decorating, even though it takes me a lot longer than most.

Below is my latest house, the one I built specifically for my self-Sim as a showcase of what she can build for her clients.

For purposes of displaying the house's line, this is the un-landscaped view. I assure you, there are trees and plants now!

Since we technically weren't supposed to judge the app round, I'll send you my feedback personally so you can improve on it as you build Round . I would also like to note that there are only NINE contestants listed on the first post.

Before I post my entry...is there a limit to how many pictures we can post? I know there's base requirements but it doesn't say any limit because I'd like to post anywhere from 10-15.

Edit: I'm leaving tomorrow morning for vacation until the 16th so I'm just going to post all of it.

The house I built for Claire and Danny is an impressive 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bathroom home built on the top of a cliff. It's very modern and futuristic with neat/clean lines but cozy at the same time. Every room in the house has open space to hold a large amount of people at parties. Once you enter the front door, there is a large 2-story dining area with an office area & computer. There is a door to the large deck with recliners for sunbathing and a hot tub. Back inside, The kitchen takes up a large portion of the house with state-of-the-art appliances and an island to accommodate their love of cooking. There is a half bathroom for guests to use at parties. Behind the kitchen is the living area including a mirrored fireplace with a flatscreen over it, couches, bookcases, a radio, and art pieces. Up the stairs is a two story hallway leading to the two bedrooms and a full bathroom with laundry and a walk-in shower. The master is simple with a clean appearance and minimal furniture. It has access to two balconies, one in the front and one in back. The second bedroom is a great place for guests to stay over or it can be changed to a nursery if Claire & Danny decide to start a family. The garage has a parking space and the art studio. There's cabinets for storage and countertop space, as well as an easel and a sculpting station.

instead of taking up the ass-paining task of writing seperate PMs to all of you. "Sigh" I compiled all of my scores/comments in a google docs file and am posting the link below. Find you name and the scores and comments should be written below. I understand this means you will have a chance to see what I told your competition, and to be quite honest, that will make this competition very interesting. :P

Like Riptide651 pointed out is post 57 there are only 9 contestants listed. So I take it we are working with only these 9 since adding the 10th person will involve extending the time of submission for him or her.

But if some one will be willing to come in and feel they can still meet the deadline of the 14th that would be awesome. Its up to lovelydia101 to decide on that. For those who submitted at the commencing state that feels okay with it as per meeting the deadline, you can PM lovelydia101 if you feel you are up to it and she can decide on either adding an extra one of you or going with the 9 names already chosen.

(the pictures are in spoilers because all the pictures on the thread makes it slow for my PC and I didn't want to add to that)

It's a moderately small house, as I figured they are art student and wouldn't be able to afford a huge modern mansion. But despite it's size it's still good for entertaining people, and it still provides the muse needed to create their art work. There is a cabin located further away from the house which serves as the second bedroom and as the art studio because sometimes you just need to get away from it all to find your inspiration. (the canvas is located in the studio. The computer is located in the upstairs hallway. the spa is located in the bathroom)

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/4/7/9/1/9/9/8/MTS_EmmaBananana-1307224-1.jpg

Front of the house. As you can see it's a modern design, the dining are is seen to the left, it's an outside/patio dining area that includes a bar.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/4/7/9/1/9/9/8/MTS_EmmaBananana-1307227-4.jpg

the living room. The animal print, and lion head just scream 'party animal'. :giggler: There are also some freshly baked cupcakes on the coffee table, showing that they're natural cooks. Furthermore, the living room is tight and clutter free showing how neat they are.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/4/7/9/1/9/9/8/MTS_EmmaBananana-1307226-3.jpg

The bedroom includes a lot of purples, while still sticking to the brown, black and grey palette. The champagne and sushi shows that they're natural cooks, and also that they're rebels, because how bad-ass is it to eat sushi of each others naked bodies. :heyhey:

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/4/7/9/1/9/9/8/MTS_EmmaBananana-1307225-2.jpg

This is the view from the Jacuzzi/spa in the master bathroom. Which again is clutter free to show how neat they are. I also guess it shows they're rebels as not many people dare to go skinny dipping with the curtains open

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/4/7/9/1/9/9/8/MTS_EmmaBananana-1307228-5.jpg

lastly we have the cabin/art studio that provides inspiration for them. :bunny:

Round One: Danny and Claire

I went at this with the understanding that Claire comes from money, and had also just recently received a rather large inheritance from a dear deceased great aunt. What luck (minus the dead relative)! She decided that with this grand windfall at her disposal, it was time to set her life plans in motion. She proposed to Danny and off they went to Starlight Shores to revel, rebel, and live their party lifestyles - and attend art college, of course!

While looking around for a plot of land in sunny Starlight Shores, they noticed how most of the residential architecture had sort of a renovated Spanish Colonial look. So, being the young rebellious couple they are, once they settled on the perfect lot they immediately started building an urban, moody artspace to show off their artistry and individuality.

Checklist:
Canvas: They're everywhere! Haha, there's literally 5 in the dining room, 4 in the master bedroom, 3 in the guest bedroom, 2 in each bathroom, 2 in the office, etc etc.
Spa: Outside in the backyard, down the steps. The hot tub has it's own little protruding patio peninsula.
Computer: At the top of the stairs in the loft office space.

Colors: Brown, Black, Gray: I used these quite extensively throughout the house, with most of the furniture and building materials in these colors. I did add lots of pops of bright color for both design interest and because of their artistic nature, namely purples oranges and teals.

Traits:
Artistic: The whole house shows their quirky artistry, but something I think is really neat and makes it a lot more personal is that I used all artwork (both paintings and sculptures) actually created by the sims I made as my own Danny and Claire.
Natural Cook: The kitchen is one of the largest rooms in the home, with lots of appliances and lots of prep space. There's even a full kitchen out on the back deck for warm summer afternoons or larger dinner parties. Also, there's vanilla wafer bars on the dining room sieboard. There's always something delicious lying around at Danny and Claire's!
Party Animal: The backyard is built for parties, a big kitchen and fully-stocked professional bar on the back deck, large dining table and stereo + room for dancing on the patio. And the hot tub! And there's drinks on the lower sideboard in the living room and on the dining table outside. Plus the whole house is sophisticated but still has lots of fun funky colors and furniture, something I think a young partying couple would hold in very high regard.
Rebellious: The whole concept of their home in the uppity rich Spanish neighborhood of Starlight Shores is a little rebellious all on its own, but again, I think the bright colors against the smooth modern aesthetic can be quite rebellious, in a fresh chic kind of way.
Neat: This was the hardest for me, as you can probably see I do love clutter ha. But I wanted to be realistic and make it look lived-in as well, so taking into account that I didn't put very much storage space into the house, I chose things that I thought were absolutely necessary but could still maintain that modern line. So yes, in the bathroom all that stuff is out on the counter, but there's no storage space under the sink so they have to put towels SOMEWHERE.... I think to live in the storage-less tight space of this house and still have this much organization shows the marks of a very neat person.

The master bedroom has a heightened ceiling, creating an interesting effect you'll see later.

The home itself actually isn't all that large, but it does have some excellent architectural features, such as the glass three-story atrium in the back of the house with a beautiful view of the ocean, containing the sunken living room on the first floor.

Another interesting feature is the art studio, a necessity for the clients. It's a modern take on a traditional stone castle turret, built with basalt rock and classy modern windows with a unique sloping roof.

Keep in mind that all artwork was created by the clients (I made "Danny and Claire" sims and had them painting like madmen for several days while I built the house around them. Ah it's a rough life for those starving artist sims... Except they live in this house so it's not too rough I guess... ha).

Shall we go inside?

@ Emma: Thanks!! Although I gotta say, everyone's entries look great so far, I can't wait to see all of them. It's going to be a tough competition.
Those paintings were just painted by my Danny and Claire sims that I moved into the house. I will say I scrapped and sold a lot of paintings they made, kind of weeded through the stupid ones to get the ones that matched the color scheme and design. Most of the paintings were done by Danny (although Claire got an opportunity to help an old famous artist with a fresco or something so her paintings were always worth more, they just never seemed to fit), and all the sculptures were done by Claire.

Here is my entry. The house in unassuming from the street, with just a simple facade, but the main facade is on the garden side. I suppose it's fairly swanky for a pair of art students, but I suppose they have a lot of money from somewhere. It's an upside down house, with an open plan living space upstairs with a big balcony, suitable for lots of parties and for big dinner parties.

Downstairs there is two bedrooms, and a workspace for our aspiring artists plus a comfortable living space.

I think I've included all the check-list items! I tried to keep it 'messy clutter' free, since they're so neat, and I've put in lots of black, grey and brown. I gave them a motor-cycle, because they're such rebels!

I'd just like to bring something to everyone's attention, especially the judges (Adonispluto particularly). I know for a fact that the fellow contestants and myself joined this competition to have fun, and not to have our creative work negatively criticized. That's not what MTS is about, this community is build on a foundation of respect and understanding for each other's work, even if it's not to your liking. we're supposed to help people improve their work, and bring the best out of them and ourselves. I therefor wanted to let the judges know that even though you may not like something, at least give us positive criticism and constructive feedback, instead of being so harsh. But if you are unable to say something nice about someone's creation, then discuss it between each other but don't message negative things to the contestants. :duck: And this is the end of my rant.

Thanks very much for the point you raised. But really I do not see anything wrong in the message I sent to you. I knew the reason for this competition/contest is just for fun and at the same time while the fun part of it is great it indirectly aims at the same time to help us become better in what we do after all no body is just perfect. I felt it nice to let you know what I thought were off with what you did and I did give an advice on a way you could improve on it.That is to say for such a situation a next time you should be able to recollect/remember the point that was raised and not be able to do the same thing a next time.

First, the round isn't over yet so why is feedback and/or scores being given? That should not be done until the round is over and closed. Also, WHEN scores and feedback are given, it needs to go through the host, not be posted individually by each judge. Lovelydia, and judges, please see Story Contest Scoring (http://modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3904959&postcount=142) for an example. Each judge is listed on the main page but their scores and comments are kept anonymous. Lovelydia, it is also your responsibility to check over comments to make sure they follow the forum rules:

As a judge, you are to ONLY provide CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Judges who are found to have provided mean or hurtful comments will be given a warning and may not be able to judge future contests. If you, the contest holder, are sent a PM from a judge and find something you think may not be constructive criticism, its your responsibility to forward the PM to heaven.
If I get more information that comments are not following said rules, I will remove the judges.

Lastly, please put your pictures in spoilers, especially for those sharing a lot. It takes A LONG time to scroll through the page right now. If you reply to my thread, just can see how I formatted the spoiler and infobutton.

I wasn't told about this either I gave a message to all the judges to send the scores they have done to me so I could check them over and then post it on the day when the first assignment is over. I'll have to ask the judge about what he was doing because I made it clear of what I wanted to happen.

I'm so sorry I had no idea they weren't allowed to do that I was supposed to check the results and add them together. As for the negative criticism that's what I was upset about you can give your results nicely. I wanted this to be fun not for anyone to get hurt. I'll ask what happened. For the results you received ignore them because they don't count there not your real scores.

Comment- Really great the design was real nice but too large I don't think art students could afford it. The interior design was great you really could see the artistic side and the rebbelious but a bit too much. You did the traits really well but there neat side wasn't really shown and neither was there party animal side cause of the lack of it shown in the backyard.

Comment- Lovely house but my sister is right now drooling over it so there you go. The outside was good but needed a bit more landscaping or just a smaller lot cause the empty space was a bit of a off put. The interior was done nicely but sometimes was a bit bland. You did show the traits well so that's a pat on the back good job.

P.S You all did fantastic if you feel bad about your score remember this is the first round and it was good to show you all how it worked. Loved all of your houses it was really hard to judge for all of us. :gjob:

Entries need to be posted in this main thread, not PMed to the host and judged as all the other rounds were, with the same judges and with scores posted openly out of fairness for all contestants.

Contestants who still need to get entries in, please do so in the next 5 hours. That is 10:30PM PST. Lovelydia will be using a timer for the rest of the entries so we should not have a similar mix up again.

Sorry I've been late...Real life has gotten in the way majorly, and not in a good way. :( And I've been having some major gaming and photoshop problems, so this round's entry kinda sucks. Hope I've made it in in time.

Seems like I'm the first one...

Well anyway, I build Alice a cottage in Hidden springs. I wanted to create a euphoria kind of feel so I build a river with a waterfall, and surrounded it with plants and trees to indicate she's surrounded by the glories of nature. The house is quite small, as she's only 19 and I doubt she has a sugar daddy who pays for stuff, so the bedroom is above the kitchen and it's open enabling her to look down upon the living area. There is a large storage area under the stair case as I tried to use the space as much as possible.

Colours: I tried to stick to a colourful palette with lime greens and pastel pinks. Here is a scheme I created including the hex codes for the colours I used the most
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7ncc0Re3a1rbjr0eo1_1280.jpg

Traits (click the spoiler for the explanation, I wrote quite a lot):
ecofriendly - The house's exterior is completely ecofriendly, the walls are built from rock and the roof is thatch. There is a solar panel located near the rear of the house, and also a wind mill, so the whole house runs on solar and wind energy (which also reduced the cost of bills). Most of the fabrics in the house are Hemp, which also doesn't damage the environment. The house has almost no electrical devices, so no TV, stereo (there is a vintage record player, which I assume takes up less energy) and no computer (instead she has a typewriter)The stove runs on gas, which is greener than an electrical stove. I also included recycle bins in the kitchen. Lastly, there are no car spaces because I assume Alice wanted a bicycle, which is parked nicely out front. there also is no laundry room, because it's more efficient to get your shit cleaned at a laundromat.

Animal lover - Seeing as Alice is probably too busy with her ballerina stuff, I saw it unfitting to include actual pet objects as she doesn't have time for a pet. The only pet I think she would get is a gold fish, so I put a fishbowl under the stairs area. I incorporated most of the animal stuff in the art. every single painting in the house has an animal as the subject, eg. Kittens and birds. The cat on the chair is the dining room is a fake cat, I put it there because she's all alone in the wilderness and I thought she might needed a companion, without the hassle of a real one. lastly, there are 2 teddy bear/animal things, one on her bed and one on the couch, I thought they symbolized her youth and I also thought that when I have a house in the middle of the freaking woods I would want something cute to keep my mind of creepy things (at least there is an elaborate alarm system). Her garden outside also includes a little bird bath and feeder thing, for when she wants to pretend she's snow white. The topiary infront of the house also show she’s an animal lover as it’s in the form of a panda and penguin.

Bookworm - well this is an obvious one, I put a lot of books in the house. and bookcases. There are books in EVERY part of the house, the kitchen, bedroom, living room and dining (there's even a magazine rack next to the toilet...Don't judge. We've all read something while doing a number 2. Even the back of shampoo bottles) I also, like mentioned before put a type writer in her bedroom, in case her ballerina career flops and she wants to write books. The bench outside is supposed to be a place where she can relax and read, but if it rains she can sit in her dining area which at the same time is also a mini library

Friendly - The light colours used in the house created a welcoming atmosphere, and 'yellow' is scientifically proven to make you feel happier (that's why monkeys like bananas so much, and I guess that’s why I like bananas so much too...) there is also a lot of natural light, as I wanted to create a fresh and aired-out house.

Green thumb - There are many plants in the house, her garden also includes fresh fruits and vegetables that she cultivates herself, this is also eco-friendly because everything she eats is organic, and healthy so she can keep up that ballerina booty.

Notes: In order to give the house more personality, I included family photos, ballerina trophies and I even stuck her name above her desk. almost all the furniture in the house is vintage, for example the living room couch and chair, record player and floral wall paper, the art work is also very vintage.

Requirements:
There are two bookcases in the house, one in the dining area and one in her bedroom
The bathtub is located in the bathroom.

Ok, here's my entry. (: I hope I'm not too late, there was a thunderstorm last night so I had to wait until this morning to post so that I wouldn't fry my computer or anything. Since today should be the 29th over there, I figured I would still be good...I hope so!

I decided this morning to move the whole lot to a custom world too to give it a more scenic look. :3 The whole house is inspired both by a really old house down the road from my neighborhood and a painting I used to have as my desktop background... there is one bedroom, one bathroom, and two floors.

Front of house / bird's eye views:
http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/1007/screenshot23cm.jpg
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/6004/screenshot26rqh.jpg
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/3839/screenshot27mk.jpg
A lot of the plants outside are actually garden plants, scattered about to make a huge vegetable and flower garden for our green thumb! Also there's the eco-friendly clothes line!
A lot of plants disappear during bird's eye view though. O.o I can't figure out how to screenshot the top of the house like that and keep them from vanishing.
+Edit: Oh! I forgot to mention, there's also a bunch of bird and butterfly spawners all over the yard, just a bit of info there. That way there's always twittering noises and stuff in the game.

And my three favorite rooms!
Kitchen:

http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/9531/screenshot29v.jpg
The majority of the kitchen is made up of a cottage CC set I got a while ago, can't remember where it was from and I compress my CC so I can't see from a .package file or anything... it's such a cute set though! It's probably hard to see from there but there's a cat dish underneath one of the side cabinets, because the sim has the animal lover trait. Tried to make it look warm and welcoming for the friendly trait.

Living area:

http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/9696/screenshot30jt.jpg
I tried to go for a greeny theme here, also cozy and welcoming like the kitchen. What I had in mind was a forested, fairytale approach, almost like you can hear a bunch of little Disney dwarves singing songs in the room over. P:

Bedroom:

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/5761/screenshot32v.jpg
Since this was a smaller area, I tried to make the best of it with a quaint yellow color and lots of lamps and wall art. That way it could be both cute and navigable.

I forgot my game disc at my other house, which is 45 minutes away. I'm going to go back soon to get it, but my entry may be up late late tonight/early tomorrow morning, I just haven't taken pictures yet.

Edit: Round 2

For round 2 I built a newer cottage on a large lot with a barn & greenhouse for all of Alice's prized plants and animals. Inside the house is one large bedroom with a dance studio off of it, and a large bathroom. The home is surrounded with probably the most landscaping I've ever done for one house.

Hey guys, I know I'm past the due date, so if it's too late I understand. I'm so sorry to everyone for being late, I had an out-of-town emergency over the past week so I haven't been around my computer. My entry was almost finished before I had to leave, I just had to CASt some stuff and fill in bushes and trees this morning.

Here's my entry:

Round Two: Alice

This round was really fun because I'm actually a professional ballet dancer in real life, so it was great to have that in mind when creating the house for this sim. I remember when I first moved away from home at sixteen to go to a better ballet school for my own training. Granted, I didn't move into a cottage and I'm a guy who six years later lives in a modern apartment downtown, so it really isn't very similar to my house, haha.

It's a one bed, one bath older Victorian-style cottage. The pics make it look big but it's really not, only $24k unfurnished, and about $8k of that is the greenhouse and plants.

I also tried to keep things looking a little run-down, more eclectic, like maybe she found most of it at an awesome thrift store somewhere in town, then refinished it herself. Dancers don't make very much money, especially young dancers still in training.

Checklist:
Bathtub: In the bathroom.
Bookshelf: There's a bookshelf at the top of the stairs in the bedroom.

Colors: I kept most of the furniture wood as a worn white paint, pretty shabby chic but still fits in with the elegant vintage look. I kept the fabric colors to pastels, namely pale yellow, pink, and blue, in keeping with the shabby chic look.

Traits: Good choice on these, btw, I know quite a few ballerinas with these traits.
Eco-Friendly: Recycling bins, bicycle out front. When I lived in San Francisco, we rode our bikes to the ballet studio every morning!
Animal Lover: There's a whole kitty corner in the living room, and a cat calendar mixed in among the collage on the stairwell wall. I know it wasn't specifically Cat Lover, but most of my ballet friends with pets have cats.
Bookworm: There's a bookshelf at the top of the stairs, but also books in the built-in shelves under the stairs, lying on the trunk at the foot of the bed, etc.
Friendly: I tried to keep the colors upbeat, I could definitely see a group of ballerinas getting together for coffee (or shots! Us dancers are Party Animals too! ). I also put a lot of framed pictures around, showing that she has lots of friends and does lots of fun things with them.
Green Thumb: The outside is landscaped beautifully, she has a little pond with an arched bridge over it, and a whole Victorian-esque greenhouse, with a functioning garden on one side and then lots of decor plants on the other, to make it look as though she's growing flowers and exotic plants in the greenhouse too. Plus there's some fruit-bearing trees along the path outside the greenhouse, those are plants more natural to the area, thereby not requiring greenhouse nurturing.

Sorry I'm late! Working around a cracked screen is a problem!

With this one I had to construct a little story in my head; I mean, she's a 19 year old student, how could she have a house? Well, luckily for her she has an uncle with a farm, and in the grounds is an old workman's cottage. Sure, noone has lived in it since the 70s and it's somewhat backward and it's tiny, but it's her own place. Mother doesn't approve, though she says to count your blessings that the previous tenants put in a bathroom. But Alice loves it. Well, in theory - sometimes in winter when she's stoking the stove she's not so sure. but all her friends live in boring Ikea boxes, whereas her place is full of cool junk-shop finds (well, apart from the Billy bookcases, but a girl can be weak sometimes!) She presuaded Dad to re-wallpapaer some bits, and she painted others but some of the old decor has had to stay. But she couldn't keep her cat in a normal rented house!

Has a bathtub, bookcases, nice garden for her to work on with a greenhouse. She's got her compost bin, bike and lady-bugs to save the planet, plus think of the food-miles that garden will save (plus her food burner and stove burn wood, carbon neutral naturally!)

My goodness! Not checked into the thread since the 19th and hasn't been on site since the 21st. I do hope that lovelydia is okay!

However, the show must go on or whatever that little saying is. The judges are working on the scores for round 2 now. After Round 2, the contest will be closed. Since it will not end up being a full contest, there will be no winners or losers. Just satisfaction in the participation and, hopefully, some knowledge gained from the feedback you received from the judges and maybe ideas from things you saw others do.

Please, do not submit any more Round 2 entries. The Round is now closed for judging and we'll get the scores back to you as soon as we can. Thanks guys!

I'm sorry everyone...I'm still missing scores from a judge who is not able to do the judging. At this point, I would need to PM the EJ and ask that person to go through and judge and then compile from there and, frankly, I feel as though you have all been waiting way too long. Would anyone be incredibly disappointed or heartbroken to not receive scores? I do apologize for this.
