One thing to mention: apartments don't seem to get the discount that houses do. In my game, I could have my young adults rent an apartment, but with a deposit of ~$3k for my smallest apartments they could move in to a small but decent house for approximately the same amount of money.

I believe that for apartments to function correctly, they need to actually be built in the University subhood, although I could be wrong about that.

Why not just build dorm "rooms" that look like apartments, i.e. several bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, etc...? The good thing is that your sims won't need to pay any rent, since dorms are for free.

I thought about doing that but it just doesn't feel realistic to me unless they're paying for it. But I guess I could just use the 'donate' option from Monique's computer to 'pay' the bills.

I think I'd rather just have them live in dorms - they're pretty much like apartments, I think, and you can build ones with large, sparsely-furnished rooms if you want. *shrug*

Pretty much this. I've built some amazingly lavish dorms before that looked and functioned just like luxury serviced apartments with their own kitchens, living spaces and such. You just need to put a Myne Door as the front door, have your Sim claim it and you're all set.

Yep. And I recommend Pescado's apt hack anyway. It fixes a number of annoying and potentially game breaking problems.

It's apthack.package :http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,7.0.html

That's wrong. ALFixes is a good idea. AptHack just fundamentally changes the way that apartments work, but doesn't fix any of the bugs.

Do we need ALFixes even if we patch the game? Because some of the fixes are already covered in AL patch.

Will I have to build my own apartment after installing the alfix mod for it to work so i can have apartments in the campusesNo, not necessarily. However, apartment lots aren't available to place from the uni lot bin. What you'd have to do is either build an apartment as a residential lot, or change an apartment lot to a residential lot, and then save a copy in the lot bin. Those can be placed in the uni NH and then using the "changelotzoning" cheat can be changed to apartments.
