This is part 1 of my comparison video about Parents & children interactions/animations in Sims 2 vs. Sims 3:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z6nfh6OGtw
Part 1 focuses on scolding interactions and Sims 2 wins, hands down, there's really no comparison lol. The Sims 2 animations are more fluid and detailed and you can feel the connection between parent and child.

Its not just about the interactions, its also about the how they make different gestures when they talk, especially about planes where they imitate their sound in the sims 2. It appears to me that the sims 3 mom is too lazy to kneel down to console her child. Hope the sims 3 mom dies!

Something else annoying about Sims 3 I hadn't noticed before is how big, cartoony, and intrusive the graphic thingys above the sims' head are. In Sims 2, I've never been bothered by them, but those are glaringly awful. I'd have to turn headlines off, if I were playing S3, which is something I've never seriously felt a need to do in S2.

The Sims 3 clip didn't look quite as stiff as others I've seen, but I totally agree with M.M.A.A. about the cheer up interaction. A kneeling, two-handed pat from S2 mom versus a standing one-handed pat from the S3 mom seems minor, but comes across SO much better from the S2 mom.

I agree to a point, but I virtually never saw the 'consolable cry'. I think only once it happened in my game out side of Paul's reaction tester.

I have a mod that's had me rid of any sort of sparkles for ages now, but yeah, I do agree that there needs to be more . . . personal interactions. That and the kids just . . . idek, uncanny valley with the way that they stand. And stare. o_o :|

I didn't use Paul's reaction tester. She really started crying after the lecture or maybe it was because her parents had a fight that day and she witnessed it.

I really can't believe that Sims 3 parents can't console and cheer up their kids like Sims 2, there isn't even an option to kiss them!

The sulky TS3 face is a winner though.

Yes, there's an option for them to sulk on the chair after being grounded. It's funny but it would be funnier if they crossed their arms and did some other sitting animation instead of that normal sitting. ;) I'll do that in Sims 2 with mods so you'll see what I mean.

Sof m9 - are you going to release that as a mod because if so I love you ok?

Wow, that sitting animation is amazing, sof m9!

Release that as a mod? Oh gosh but I made that with Decorgal sitting/talk overlay so that pose is already in game I think. For the crossed arms I used Akihiro's Walk-Poses box: http://www.modthesims.info/d/381163 and the head down is from schizophreniastudios' overlayable poser box: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=422439

I know how to create animations on Milkshape and import them to the game but I don't know how to do Sims-to-objects interactions. I wouldn't know how to make a "sulk" option show up if you clicked on the sofa. I've read some tutorials about it but I guess it's way over my head. ;)
I'm still waiting for "maybesomethingdunno" to help me with custom interactions between parents & kids. One interaction I want to see badly is for parents to carry them like they can carry toddlers.

There's no Sims 3 stuff in either of those.

Not that that's a problem for me. ;)

I'll be adding some clips of Sims 3 in the following videos. There wasn't just anything to compare these sims 2 clips to. Sims 3 Moms can't serve food on the table, family kiss doesn't exist, no limbo bars and the other Castaway items, no diving board. I also never saw a clumsy sims 3 child trip and fall and obviously there isn't any "groom/clean up" interaction between parent & child.

I've never seen a limbo bar; do you have to have Castaway Stories and extract it?

No family kiss, no food serving, no grooming - is there anything Sim3 parents CAN do?

Wait - no diving board? Diving boards have been in the game since base game of Sims1! What a thing to take out!

!

Yes, there is:

Screaming at their children
Shouting at them
Lecture them.

I've only seen the "scold" option and that animation is always the same. What do you mean by screaming and shouting at them?

Oh, that's just to add up to the heartlessness of the parents,

I downloaded the Castaway items for the Sims 2 game.

They can give friendly hug, sit on the bedside to read a bedtime story and when the child falls asleep they lean over to kiss her/him. Those two interactions are really the only loving things that Sims 3 parents can do with kids.

Where does that fall over and brush down animation come from? I want it! If you know please.

While I am a much bigger fan of Sims 2 than of Sims 3 it isn't really fair to compare the games using third party mods that you have added or extracted castaway stuff. It should use things that came with the game.

Fall over is from the bowling animation. ;)
Yes, I guess you're right but sims in Sims 3 can watch Sims 2 on TV playing around with Castaway items.

They must be really jealous. "Mommy, why can't I be a Sims2 character? They get to do all kinds of fun stuff!"
