View Full Version : How do You Guys Handle Ugly Generations in Your Sim-families?

I'm not used to this!
My kids are always outstanding looking their entire life, but it seems like someone just hit this family with the ugly stick :wtf:

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u468/Simmer_E/Screenshot-34.jpg

I aged her up with Master Controller, to see if she mellowed with age

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u468/Simmer_E/Screenshot-36.jpg

Looks like she'll still be kind of off when she's an adult :faceslap: haha

Her brother started off as one of the cutest toddlers I've ever had, though :D

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u468/Simmer_E/Screenshot-35.jpg

So I got curious and wanted to see what he'd look like as an adult :anime:

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u468/Simmer_E/Screenshot-37.jpg

He's...not as bad?

The mom is pregnant with the 3rd child, so I hope she/he comes out awesome

So how do you guys deal with ugly generations when you're playing?
And post pictures if you want!

Lol the guy looks lke Wil Wheaton  (and that is not a compliment)

I don't mind ugly. I concentrate on their personality. The most beautiful sim can be super boring, while the most ugly one can be the one that steals your heart. And the girl doesn't look that bad, not hot but not super ugly either.

Wow, you guys are tough critics! But then again, beauty is subjective. Actually, I don't find either toddlers to be particularly cute (the little boy is okay but just a TS3 toddler okay which equals a TS2 toddler ugly) but the adults are good-looking.

I think the woman is beautiful, I like that her mouth is slightly large. Symmetry is for chumps and personally I find the most beautiful people in real life are the ones who have the most asymmetrical faces.

I understand you. I have similar problem with my current family. I made the girl from CAS (with CC skin) and married her to chad luck from SS. Their first child is so-so. I like some of her facial features and dislike some. i think I wont be happy playing her as the heir, with the second child (a girl again, actually they all have daughters no boys), the second was worse looking than the first (my goodness!) I lose hope, so I decided just to make the eldest to be the heir, but then (I'm using twallan's wohooer) they had the third child unexpectedly, and this one, the most fair in-game sim I ever had. so I'm keeping the third as the heir.

The eldest, I kick out the house as soon I managed her to be married. the second child, I'll also kick her out as soon she marries.

I think the second one looks blah -- almost pudding -- and the first one is very attractive. What are you looking for? Pudding face? I'm sorry but the first woman looks like a real person. If that brother and sister combo were in my family, she'd be the pick and he'd be the "too pudding faced" reject.

If you want perfect doll features, then just edit them to look exactly like how you want so they all look Stepford perfect. With twallan's mods, you can even make them all sterile and perfect looking before they are born and age their bodies down to toddler and then just swap out the dangerously natural looking child with the one you made. The traits stay in tact.

I might give one of them plastic surgery
But I don't like changing the genes, so I might just use the girl, because she's starting to look the best after you guys mentioned it XD LOL

@kewpie

I don't really know what I'm looking for o.O
But it might be pudding faces LOL
Here go pis of my other born in-game sims
I didn't change a feature on the faces (only hair/facial), and they all turned out nice looking to me :)

I think that the generations and family "genetic traits" are part of what makes the game interesting. I tend to just let all of my sims breed and populate the neighborhood and see how their looks pan out. Some turn out to be good looking and others not so much. I do take them to the mirror and the dresser to change their clothes and hairstyles if the game gives them something I hate. I find that even the most unattractive sim will look better if given decent clothing, appropriate hairstyles and makeup or facial hair.

IMO, having all the sims in your game look like supermodels gets quite boring. I think all the sims you posted actually look nice.

Sims on the 'normal-ugly' side of the scale don't bother me, and add diversity to my game. But Sims on the 'holy crackers that thing's hideous kill it with fire' side of the scale get edited in CAS and/or purged by a fireball. >>;

Some people aren't ridiculously beautiful, and they face specific challenges. I enjoy thinking about that when I try to play a legacy, it makes the stories much more interesting.

Sorry Simmer, but yeah, your sims kinda all look alike and puddingy. I honestly wonder if gave them all identical hair, makeup and eyebrows if you'd be able to tell them apart. We all have our own playing style and I go to far the other way perhaps. I deliberately take sims like yours out of the breed pool. In fact, I don't allow them in my game at all, except for the cab drivers because nobody interracts with them.

These are the steps I take. I have jillions of sims downloaded from this site and I put them in families. And then I use Twallan's mods to make sure that my families come from the bins and NOT from EA's pudding generator. The immigrants who move in all come from these seed families. Then I take sims either from this site or ones I "captured" with a twallan mod and edit all the townies in my town to retain their traits and favorites, but they look like sims in my bins. I really hate the middle slider doll-like pudding look. I want my sims to look like real people.

When I have an ugly sim in my town, they would give you nightmares. I have had sims that are incapable of smiling because their mouths are deformed into a frown. I just had a sim born with a weird ridge in the middle of her head that looks like trigoncephaly. I had even uglier randomly generated sims with freakshow characteristics like two dimensional noses and ape faces. But I have also had stunningly beautiful sims that would knock most pudding faces out of the water. I have also had sims that people would consider ugly, but resembled real celebrities. I once randomly generated a sim that looked like Donna on that 70s show. (Boy, she was ugly by sims standards, btw. But the sim looked JUST like her) I also had Niles Crane appear in my game.

I am trying hard not to tell you how to play, because we all have our styles and it's none of our business, but I think you could grow to appreciate the sims you call ugly if you just thought of them as more unique looking.

I think the blonde girl is absolutely beautiful! Not as a toddler, but as an adult.... I'd be happy to look like that in real life! Haha... We certainly all have different standards of beauty.

Ahem, to me your "other in-game born sims" look like EA generated ones. And the "ugly one" is still a pretty sim to me. I don't mean this in a negative way, we all have different opinions about what we like in simmies and elsewhere. :)
Like many others, I enjoy having sims that have their unique looks, and EA pudding annoys me so much I got NRaas story progression to get rid of EA's immigration.

But to your original question, what do I do with the uglies? Well, I play them and move them out when they hit YA. I don't alter them, but I always pick the cutest to actually play to the end...

By the way, if you consider those sims ugly, what do you think of my sim's daughter:
http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/gallery/albums/userpics/10133/Screenshot-102.jpg
I swear her parents were relatively pretty. But this is what she looked like when she aged to teen... Yikes!

Some of my "ugliest" Sims have turned out to be my favorites. Something about them not being average beauties makes me root for them and more invested in their "lives" and seeing good things happen to them. I usually try to make sure they live out a great life.

My supermodel Sims usually end up being sluts that ruin households and end up with drinking problems and have to move back home with their parents or are murdered outside some bar by a disgruntled cuckolded husband or bitter former lover. Maybe I'm anti-pretty...

Anyway, I would totally play your Sim, pikku.titiuu, if nothing but to see what she looks like as an adult and what kind of kids she would make. I would probably change her eyebrows though, I don't think they're helping. :P

pikku - I like her looks - except those fuggo eyebrows. Were they burned off in a birthday cake accident and she had to draw them on with magic marker? I have a sim father with almost exact that nose right now with a newborn baby (He was a paparazzi that was given the male version of a female body I downloaded here) . I am wondering if your little girl will have a cousin. I had a coworker that looked a lot like that sim. I felt bad because when I showed my husband pics of her newborn, his first reaction was "OMG what's wrong with that baby? Oh.. nothing.. she just looks like her mom.. sorry."

OP, we must have completely different taste... The first girl looks very attractive to me after growing up. All the other "nice looking" guys/gals you posted later are plain looking at the most. And that "one of the cutest toddlers"... I couldn't help but thinking: Seriously???

In my legacy family, as long as they're not hideous I let them be. In my play game, I do all sorts of changes via Edit in CAS.

I have to say the two original adult pics were kinda pudding to me but, as far as my standards go, completely in acceptable range and not in need of surgery. I only give surgery to fix bad clipping issues and crazy extreme features like i had a daughter with a jaw that came from nowhere and had all jaw sliders at the left. when she crawled in hit the floor.

What is this "pudding" face I keep hearing (but not seeing) about? I have yet to see "pudding" faces.
If you would be nice enough to explain...
Thanx.

On an unmodded game, the sliders go to the middle quite often when generating sims. This gives them a bland, pudgy, look. This is why they are nicknamed pudding-faced.

One thing that I have to credit to Ambitions is that Twinbrook completely changed my view on what a Sim should look like. I love them all and the only things I changed was to give them ears (most of them have none) and change the mouth depth slider for some of the residents, because they looked as if they had been punched into their faces Tom-and-Jerry-style. I even try to give the Bayless family as many opportunities to breed as possible just to see how *those* genes develop.
Bridgeport, on the other hand, is a town full of big-eyed monsters in my opinion.
Another world that taught me a lot about what makes a Sim interesting is Grey Meadow by Quailhogs. Each and every single Sim in there is interesting looking, even the "pretty" ones. I had the pleasure of creating some of the Sims for the homeless pool, but I have to admit they look quite bland compared to the ones Qailhogs and other users came up with.
In fact it is much harder to create an off-looking Sim that doesn't make you gag but if you manage they are the most adorable ones you can have.

Oh, definitely one of the supermodels, I liked her because all of her brothers and sisters looked generally the same (darkest skintone, black hair, similar facial features) and she was the only one who came out drastically different so despite her run-of-the-mill gorgeousness, she was still unique. So she had a good life (if I recall, it's been a while since TS2), no ignominious death for her. :P

That's good to hear, simmer. One thing - if you continue to allow more unique featured sims into the game, you might want to change your default skins. There are many that are more forgiving with the toddler and child faces. All of my toddlers looked like the one you posted until I got a special custom skin that is more forgiving of "slider faced kids" and hides their more unique features until they are old enough to wear them a little better. Now the same toddlers are adorable looking.

The skin I use now is called "Bittersweet" and here is a link to the link. http://sunsetsims.mustbedestroyed.org/index.php/2012/05/25/bittersweet-skin/ I know that I have gone on about natural looking sims and I may sound like a hypocrite for suggesting an alternate skin default to pretty them up -- but most toddlers don't have craggy faces because they have lots of baby fat to soften their looks. So this skin softens the toddlers and smoothes out the craggier features. Also gives the kids a less round fuggo face that I've always hated with the default skin.

It doesn't really bother me, as long as they don't look like the "generic sim" I'm happy. If I'm not very happy with the way they look I just put decent clothes on them and give them a nice hairstyle.

That's actually a great way to concentrate on the facial features. Otherwise, I find it too easy to design the face to complement the hair. While I don't work on them bald, I try to use a short, nondescript hair that covers the least amount of face. They do come out better if you get the face "right", then match a complimentary hair to them. I'm also one of those perfectionist/OCD types and have about 50 extra sliders (well, as many as are out there).

I leave all my Sims to it, to be honest. I feel like I shouldn't judge people (even Sims) for their looks, so I leave them alone and let them produce more ugly children if they wish. I feel bad editing them for my own good for some reason, like you wouldn't in real life produce your little legless larvae and think 'Boy, is that an ugly-ass baby. Plastic surgery time!'

The only thing I do with my 'ugly' sims is change their inevitably horrible clothes, and perhaps eyebrows. There's just one eyebrow I do not like at all, and of course, it pops up all the time! :) Oh yeah, and they all have to have socks with their shoes. :P
