Uh huh. You really aren't supposed to call people retarded, it's very offensive. Nice use of commas, by the way. You should be an editor.

Are they new and just don't know how to use the website? Still if they can figue out how to open a thread, they should be able to read.

"Retarded" is a pretty offensive term. Perhaps you'd like to edit your post to remove your offensive and insensitive language.

And that caused a breakdown?? You may want to get off the internet now then because it's only downhill from there.

I never go to the official forums because of that. You get one thread asking one thing, you post your 2 simoleons in that thread go back to the main forum and 5 other people are asking the same blasted question - worded differently of course thinking they can catch someone - usually a SimGuru to respond to them. I don't know what the disconnect is over there and I seriously doubt EA reads their forums... or any forum at all. Maybe posters get extra perks/goodies if they reach 5K posts, 10K, 15K etc., ad infinitum... who knows... if that's the case, I'll go spam silly ridiculous stuff over there. They're all into the social media thing now remember? All their live chats if you notice, they don't ask people to post in the forums to ask questions, they say, come to Facebook or Twitter and we'll answer your questions. They don't want to search thru the "garbage" in their official forums. I think this is what they base the "we listen to our customers" phrase they use - chatting on FB and Twitter. Don't know if you even call it chatting to be honest. Oh well.. that's my theory at any rate.

I've never even posted on the official Sims forum! The only time I've gone there is by accident through google :| MTS is my home.
I remember the TS2 official forum wasn't much better - does anyone remember benes and how everyone begged for them? Drove me nuts.

At first i've answered same questions several times which they were kept repeating but enough is enough, why do they have to open a new thread for every personal complain, maybe people don't care so much about who's hating this EP or if someone wants seasons instead of this EP and so on. It's so much chaos over there I wonder even if they have a mod  And I think the reason why they're calling people on facebook and twitter on live chats is for advertising, for getting as much people as they can watching that chat ...

If you only found 3 topics about the same thing on the first page of any forum, then you've caught it on a good day.
Most of the members of that forum are avid EA fans. They play vanilla games, with EA content and have little to discuss outside of "what would you do", "how do you like this". Not to say there aren't members that are active around the community because there are. Nor should it be said that there aren't members that contribute in ways not already posted 15 times in the last 15 minutes because there are. But, the majority of those that participate camp in EAs back yard and post for the sake of posting, even if they have nothing new to add.
It should also be noted that the forum moderation/maintenance is non existent. If they empowered their Moderators to do anything other than answer questions and organize the place a little better ya might not see multiple posts on the same topic over and over and over again.
I never used to go there but at some point I found myself pushed to respond to some of the posts only because my opinion differed so much from the norm. And once in a while I see a tech question that hasn't been answered 5000 times already this week and can be of help.
And, believe it or not, the EA Devs (Gurus) do respond to forum questions and complaints. Not nearly as much as they do on Twitter, but they are present. If ya don't frequent the place often most likely you won't even notice they're there.

Well they are mainly kids, and what adult there are tend to be of the gullible variety.
You can see the way they're catered to, or the behavior is endorsed by the way the first SN chat was conducted. Repeatedly answering the same question, identifying the questioner by name, reading little Sue says "I'm so excited for this EP" comments.
Sorry, little bitter, I posted a question there yesterday.

Any meaningful questions or other posts are probably drowned out by "how do I install mods" or please help (with the various misspellings I can't make myself use. I know I don't have perfect grammar but I try to make my posts readable). I have tried to use the search button a few times, and the results weren't even close to want I wanted, so if anyone did use the search button they wouldn't get very far.

EA's audience = catloveplayer or w.e. his name is..
That's all that has to be said, every single thing EA does he says it's perfect!

I kind of think of them as the Eloi...the people the time traveler meets in the book by H. G. Wells: The Time Machine.
Edit: The stove timer went off right when I was posting. To continue the thought, like the Eloi, they are innocent and kind of endearing in their own way, but you really have to dig to find the deeper discussions on that site. Plus the search really does suck. I often use Google to search the site instead.

Actually, I remember him saying her didn't like the logo for Diesel stuff - one of the two rare times I've seen him dislike something from EA. I was sent to the hospital as I almost died of shock.
But in all seriousness, yes, they do come across as childish and naive. I'll assume that's where most EA's product research comes from, and it sort of shows. Most of the people that play the game are adults, and we should be treated as such.

The members of EA's official boards NEED to have their own threads. If you even suggest that they use the search to find a similar thread or to post in a thread that's already been made AND already on the first page, they get really offended and snippy, especially in the Ideas & Feedback section. The I&F section is the place that I post in and lurk in the most. They can't seem to realize that "Oh the reason that my ideas aren't being heard at all is because they're just a drop in the sea of idea threads! Maybe I should post in a well-known thread!"
That's the whole reason why I opened up a thread that collected up some of the best ideas from the forum... and EA LISTENED. The reason that I'm so very, very excited about Supernatural is because they used 80% of the ideas that were collected up for the "Occult Expansion" section... and that's only what's been revealed so far about that EP. They could very well use more of the ideas but we just don't know about it yet. I also opened up a thread that was a collection of hair and clothing ideas. EA LISTENED and a lot of the hair and clothing was included in Generations, Showtime, and scattered around in some store sets.
The people on that particular section of the forums don't know how to be heard.
EA also needs a way to merge threads and to constantly monitor the situation. The I&F section is out of control.

Hey! I frequent the forums and I don't think I am gullible. :P
There are mostly children on that site, lots of them seeking attention. Some really want the Simgurus to personally answer them and think if the Simgurus are in one particular thread, then they will also come to their thread and post if they create the same topic thread. There is lots of childish behavior and attention whoring on those boards, not all are made by children.
I really tend to ignore the multitude of similar topics after one have been established and seem more credible. If you want to seek more information, check out the one started by Pill, his has the Simguru answers or ask the Simgurus in the title. Can't get on the forums now, I think it is down or I would link to it. That thread stays on the front page, and I am sure the Simgurus will post there after the weekend. They are off on those days.

Occasionally Google takes me to a thread from the official forums and I've always noticed that people will "bump" their topic anywhere from six to seven times before someone else responds. And it's usually all in a few hours' time. It really irritates me because I'm normally just looking for help on how to do something in the game and before I can actually get to the solution I have to sift through "Bump," "Bump," "Bump :P," "Bump!" "Bump!!!" "Bump!!!!!" "Bump!!!!!!!!" for like ten pages.

25th Jun 2012, 02:52 PM
And the repetitive threads doesn't limit themselves to silly questions, either. Suggestions, ideas, threads often have the same thing going on. There would be, like, 5 people having pointless threads saying, "Hey, why don't EA make a Final Fantasy EP (or SP), which have kewl Cloud Strife-style hair and clothing" or something like that. No matter how many times the more sensible users suggest them to just look up for CCs which such themes, rather than whining for EA to make it, screw up with it and then charging money for stuffs they could have for free, those threads keep coming.

Before I started to use CC, everytime I tried to navigate that sea of confusion that passes for that forum, by the time I found a thread that only remotely was connected to the info I was looking for, I would be so frustrated that I just gave up half the time. For all those people who somehow manage to find informative threads there, and link them here, I salute you. I don't know how you do it.

Isn't catloverplayer from the official forum the same user as sharkloverplayer from here? I remember sharkloverplayer having a similar posting style, and the naming style is similar. If so, then I guess he got the hint that we work differently at this site because I no longer see him post here. He fits in the official forum perfectly.
I, too, agree about the official forum. I sometimes browse through the threads there, but if I ever post, it's usually only in the CAW section in support of a world I actually like. After all, Ouerbacker has his Reyes thread there. Plus, sometimes, certain members only post their stuff there, so if I want to communicate with them, that is the only way. But yeah, I roll my eyes at some of the posts. Though, I applaud some of the members who dare to challenge the norm there.
I remember reading an anti-catloverplayer thread that got all sorts of attention. Obviously, the majority of people came to his rescue, but it was somewhat amusing to read.

I do not post on the official forum. I used to lurk but as soon as I discovered this forum I've not bothered going there at all. In fact I only go to the official website to register my games and collect whatever registration reward they release.
I prefer this website for many of the reasons already posted.

I'm a bit confused as to what you believe is EA's full potential and how would you change the game to reach your expectations? You do remember that this is just a game and all of the drama is added by people that think that they can do better work than hundreds of people doing thousands of hours of production. And telling the rest of us what is best for our game. And then you come here and do the same thing. Please !

How about, a game that works as intended, integrates with other expansions without problems, releasing store items that aren't broken from day one, and actually has customer support that has a clue about how the game works, and not some telemarketer in a foreign country that also takes calls on Viagra and Alegra D?

The forums are a joke, I only frequent the world builders threads. It's a totally different crowd. They're creators so you can get alot of questions answered in regards to CAW. I might check out the regular forums if a new ep is coming out and I need a link to find out information. But as for technical questions, or anything useful...Yeah that's not the place to go.

It was the thread about why you should be able to put a child up for adoption, then adopt it into another family for story telling purposes that made me gawp at my screen in wonder.
Everyone was going on about how 'it's so cruel' and 'adoption is real and painful, you know' and 'your disgusting for wanting to hurt CHILDREN in the game'. I couldn't quite believe what I was reading.
I can only assume that all the people posting on that thread don't watch films- they may have CRUEL things in them, don't read books- something CRUEL might be written about, don't watch TV- something CRUEL might be shown.
Some stories I made on the Sims were quite cruel, but were all resolved happily after some suffering. Also it's quite cathartic to recreate an experience one might have had and then give it an alternate resolution, I think it's a good idea. But, no, these people were having none of it. I can't imagine what they'd think if they came across the cow plant from Sims 2, deary me.

I was over there recently to just look at pictures of Lucky Palms and see if anyone reported any issues with it before I decided if I wanted it or not. But I found it really hard to get past all the horrible grammar and spelling. And there are so many blinky animated sigs over there which really bother me, so I always find myself just blocking them with AdBlock so I don't have to look at them.
They seem to be really happy about Supernatural over there. I was looking at the threads back when it was first announced and if anyone even dared to say anything bad about it or to say they wanted weather instead, everyone would jump on them. I haven't gone back to the SN forum since then, but it's probably for the best since I'm in the camp that wanted Seasons instead. Of course, now that we're getting weather, I guess that argument is pretty pointless now anyway.

I tend to avoid offical forums for any games really. Moderation is always next to nil, grammar is suggestion, not even a preferance, anyhting that can be found on there will ahve been sieved out to another, easier to read board anyhow. The few times I do venture into such places is when I'm the one doing the info hunting. In that case it always feels like I'm panning for gold, shifting through a ton of dross to find a small small nugget of actually interesting info or idea.

The problem with the site and why there are so many repeated questions is the fault of the Search Engine. Try it. You may get 15 posts or replies that have nothing to do with the exact question you need answered. And then again, you may enter a thread where you hope to find your answer...only to find it is just a bunch of people trashing each other and it (the thread) has wandered way OT. Never did answer what it was supposed to answer. And one might not want to read thiry or forty replies by players just to find out the Guru never did answer the original questions. No Gurus don't read the forums, they have said so. Only one visits the I&F when he has time. They will only answer Twitter or FB.

Oh, and you probably shouldn't bother asking about technical issues over the official forums, because it's probably going to be buried in the threads before anyone gets the chance to read it anyway, let alone make any helpful suggestions.

To be fair on the gurus if we don't feel like going through pages and pages of the same thing I can't see them wanting to either.

I never quite understood why some of the people who like weather feel the need to trash every upcoming EP simply because it's not weather. What do you gain anyway? It's not as if EA will go like: "Oh, you wanted weather? I'm sorry. Change of schedule folks!"
If you want to discuss weather than do so in the appropriate section. It's not as if you're the only people who want weather in the game now is it? I'm very excited for both.
I mean how would you feel when EA finally announces weather and you go in the weather section of the forum and find thread after thread of people screaming: "Zomg!11one Y NO MAKE UNI EP??111oneone"
The problem with the TS3 official forum is that nobody cares to moderate it properly. So people run amok doing everything they want. And when people call them out on it they feel they are entitled to act that way just because the forum is moderated poorly. Not to mention all the kiddies that hang out there.
I can't really blame the kids but the way certain adults behave there really made me give up hope on humanity all together.
