View Full Version : Fire chief lost alarm, solutions?

Having a lot of issues in my current game it seems :) This time it's the fire chief, who had earned his home fire alarm, and I spent an evening building a two-level underground parking garage for his fire truck.
Trouble is that after that, I was doing some additional remodeling upstairs, and... accidentally deleted his fire alarm while ripping out walls.
By the time I realized what had happened, I had achieved too much in my gameplay to want to roll back to a save pre-alarm deletion. I figured the alarm would be in BuyDebug with the truck, but noooo... at least, I can't find it there. I googled and found a bunch of folks with the same problem, but nobody with a solution. Anybody here have one? :)
I guess the last resort would be to change the flags on the community lot fire alarm so it could be used on a residential lot... not sure it would function properly if I did that though :p

I just did some testing, and I *think* I found a way to get another fire alarm. There's probably an easier method, but this is how I did it. :) If you have him quit his job, rejoin the career, and then level him up to fire captain again either using MasterController or testing cheats enabled (manually dragging the bar over to fill his job performance), I believe he should be granted another alarm. Or, if you don't want to lose his progress, you could always have another Sim in his household cheat their way to the top of the career, obtain a fire alarm, and then quit their job and go back to whatever they were doing before.
I did find, however, that if you use twallan's MasterController to have your Sim join the firefighting career for whatever reason they won't receive an alarm or firetruck when they reach the top. Not sure if that's a glitch specific to my game or not, but I'd recommend joining the normal way, through the fire station. Good luck! :)

The fire alarm is in build mode. You have to be on a community lot, however. In community build mode, click on the community objects and then the misc. tab and the fire alarms should be in there. If you want it on your home lot...maybe move your sim to the clip board, turn the house into a community lot, place the alarm, the turn it back into a residential lot? That's all I can suggest. I couldn't find the alarms...ever...when building my own dept. and so it was not functional...but then found it in community build mode.
Hope I helped.

If you have debug enabler, then you could just go to a community lot, place the alarm, and use debug enabler to move it to family inventory, right?

What about using Buzzler's Build/Buy Restriction Choker? With that mod you can access community lot specific objects on a residential lot and vice versa. That way you can get fire alarm without jumping through hoops.

Ah good idea ViolettaVie, I'd forgotten about that (sorry Buzz!) Gonna try that first. Hopefully it works... there's some chance I guess that it's a different object from the one the fire chief gets and won't work the same way in the scripts, but we'll see :)

I'm pretty sure the alarm is definitely in buydebug, you just have to dig for it a bit. There's a lot of cruft in there.

Isnt it one of those rewards that you have to tab or hit m to scroll through like the axe then tab (I cant remember the key) and you get the better one? Like the tomb rewards and other stuff. I know you click on the axe but then I dont remember what advances it to the next one.

Hmm. Well, I spent a lot of time looking in BuyDebug, but I could not find it, and I turned up a bunch of posts in different places from other people who also couldn't find it. The TRUCK is in there for sure, though. Maybe the alarm comes and goes in that sort with different patch versions *shrug*.
However, the Buzzler mod solution worked great... installed that, placed the alarm from the community sort, and it now functions exactly as it should in the home :D

I had thought that the axe advances to the alarm and then the firehat or something. The chinese vase from world travel will do the same thing. If you have earned them they do show but the reward is the lowest level one and there is a key to change the axe into the next reward. I will email around to find it.

This sounds interesting, never heard of it :) And don't know what WA vase you're talking about either! Though I do have a vague memory that you can use the WA tomb object menus to cycle among relics in a relic set... maybe that's what you're thinking of... I'll take a look at that.
Edit: yeah, you can use the ctrl-shift-click in buy mode thing to change states of a few WA objects... doesn't work on fireman career rewards though.
And it occurred to me belatedly to use the EP filter on BuyDebug to filter for Ambitions objects only... alarm DEFINITELY not there :p
