Hey there everyone, so I started a thread in the building forum on the site, but it started to strive away from building a bit and became locked. I was told to post it onto here, and this is my progress on the ship so far.

I'm not looking to advertise my work, just open for feedback, and if anyone wants to help this project with creating cc thats always great too!

As you may know, I've been working on the RMS Titanic ship. And I've done alot of remodeling and now it's alot closer to the real thing. Some of the rooms are as accurate as can be. And this is how far I've gotten. The ship is so far 4 (64x64) lots. It might be pushing 5 though :/ I havent remodeled the front of the ship yet.
The outside of the ship,

And just a reminder that everything is still "a work in progress".
More updates soon!

Wow this is amazing!!! It just needs the funnels! Is there anyway you could make them look connected? If not its not a big deal, it would still look wonderful

Yeah they will look connected, I just didn't add the wall columns that BloomsBase created to the lots yet! :)

Seriously, you're doing a fantastic job on this! :D What about the smoke stacks though? Or are you currently working on them?

Gabrymato

It's beyond amazing.
Trust me, I tried to re-create the Titanic a few years ago (http://www.thesimsresource.com/members/sbrizolone/downloads/details/category/sims3-lots-residential/title/rms-titanic/id/937761/), on a 64x64 lot first horizontally and then diagonally in order to gain a little more length :) And it has been such a pain, it took me so much time.
Again, great job, I'm waiting to see the funnels and maybe a sneak peek of the 3rd class apartments and the ship's engines? :D

I really love it so far! The colours you've chosen are beautiful. I added a link to this thread from your old thread, zelda101.

Can we see some plan view shots to give an idea of the layout?

Amazing work, I have some good walls for Titanic and I'm wiling to share them but they are in Sims 2 format. If any won can manage to put them in Sims 3 I'll be happy! :gjob:

I will definitely post plan shots of the ship, but right now I'm working on the 1st class cabins, then I'm going to work on the 1st class dining room. The only problem with this is that it's going to be on the C-level (2nd floor) because I can't have a level lower than that.
This is the progress so far.

Stunning! Isn't the first picture the place where (in the movie) Mr. Andrews fixes the clock's hands while the ships is inclined and all the china falls on the ground but he remains still impassibly and sadly? It kinda looks like it!

No, that's the smoking room, that was the last image from my first post, which has to be re-done.

The first picture you're talking about is the sitting room just like Rose's suite, but on the other side of the ship. :)

Can anyone tell me how to have all the lots leveled with each other?? Some lots are a bit off apart from each other.

Yes, Right now I'm working on the bow of the ship.
There is going to be overall 5 lots. 4 (64 x 64) lots and a 25 x 50.. I think it was.
It's going to be choppy in the front of the ship because it's alot longer than it originally was.

Heres a sample of the bow.

No, I wish though!
But you can use the "teleport" action when using cheat mode to travel to the other lots instantly... Its what I do. Sure beats walking!

I'm working on another version of the ship, this ones ALOT bigger, only because I'm going as close to blueprints as much as possible.
It's bare on the exterior, but looks great on the outside, it lights up well too. If anyone wants them I can share them.

I'm still working on the other interior ship though, it's just very time consuming.

Hey guys,
Lately I've been busy with school, and now I'm starting to make a come back for the game!
I've also realized a few errors in the previous ship, so I think I might end up rebuilding it exactly as I did before,
you can see the problems in these shots, (the new ship is the bottom one) The problem was I didn't plan out where the lots would be connected, but I think I solved it..
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8050/8121260285_faa8ff81f6_b.jpg

The ship I'm working on right now is hollow inside, with white walls behind the windows to create the illusion to make it seem lit up.
The new ship is alot more accurate than the last one, and is going to be alot larger than the last one for accuracy. You can tell the size by looking at the first
image. :)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8328/8121274974_32365b78c3_b.jpg
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8191/8121261941_429f984f73_b.jpg

After I finish creating the exterior, I will erase the hollowed walls and work on the interior. Unless some people just want the outside like these picture. I also decided I might not do the 1st class dinning room. It's too huge of a room, and a LOT of work.

LostWitness

Is it on a seperate world or is it in Riverview?

zelda101
30th Oct 2012, 7:35 AM
I'm about halfway done the ship, In case you guys didn't know I'm working on a bigger version and a more accurate ship. This means I'm redoing the exterior, amd my first interior I've worked on so far is the smoking room, it's not finalized and I'm just sampling different lighting fixtures atm. And the ship's exterior is 4/5 done!
So together the ship will have 5 (64x64) lots.. IT'S HUGE, But playable. I'm just have to work on the stern of the ship next, then I will go back to working on the interior.

Just a reminder, this is NOT the actual ship, I just added the funnel, edited the posts, and the black ropes.

And I'm wondering if anyone can refer me to some CC that could help me out, I'm looking for a thick circular column/post/mast about 1x1, a culumn or sculpture similar to the white post I edited on photoshop, and I doubt this exists online.. but a funnel object for the ship.

If anyone can help out with this it would be greatly appreciated. And if there's no such files online, well I'm willing to help someone create these. I can't create any cc because I'm on a mac, and I'm not skilled enough for that.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist in case you guys didn't know...

I've been thinking about your funnels (a weird sentence but, it's true). Cyclonesue at T$R has recently made her castle tower columns free and they are cas-able- i've experimented and i think they do the job rather well.. what do you think? http://www.thesimsresource.com/artists/Cyclonesue/downloads/from-the-vault/id/936007/ If you look at the fourth picture you'll see the set includes two thick round columns, the biggest and thickest ive found. I'm trying to find any objects on the net like the chandeliers, no luck :/
if anyone knows what I mean it's this lighting fixture..
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8231/8363814577_8dff3399b6_b.jpg

And I was trying to attempt meshing the fence/railings for the grand staircase, which turned out to be a fail.
http://marconigraph.com/titanic/cameron/hw12.jpg

And I was also looking for a piece of the front of the ship with matching railing, still no luck. :S
http://titanic-model.com/forum_archives/models/images/1082.jpg

And maybe the wooden columns, but this could be optional.
http://www.3ddigitalgraphics.com/xsi/grand_staircase/Titanics_grand_staircase_color.jpg

so it's just these really that I can think of at the moment..
is it asking for too much? :S I can help out anyone with texturing.

:call: I download the section of the ship to the Sims 3 and it looks great. There are a few things I would like to point out that will help this model be more accurate. The floor tiles in the grand staircase should be spaced out with 3 white tiles.

zelda101
9th Jan 2013, 10:51 PM
Well you can imagine it would be harder to do, since I used CAP which needs the edges to match each other, and making it further spread out is something that I imagine could be time-consuming. It's as closest to the real thing that I can make it at the moment.

brendanm999

Heya zelda, I couldnt reply to your message because your inbox is full. I can make the light fixture but only the .obj, after that it will need someone who knows what to do with the file for game use. I wont be able to start on it for a minimum of a week now, work is doing inventory now and I wont be doing much but sleep, eat, work, lol. I imagine I can have it completed within 2 days though. So I can maybe have it within the month.

Hello Zelda ! It's really starts to look great :) the last pics of the reception room are perfection !!! As you maybe know I'm also doing the Titanic, http://simsalamalin.blogspot.se/
Your exterior is so much better than mine !

Btw I found a column for the staircase, it's almost the right one, http://www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/details/category/sims3-objects-buildmode-columns/title/simperial-build-column/id/1179625/..but it was a bit to small :/

Johnny_Bravo
10th Jan 2013, 7:39 PM
Missflirty, that collumn sadly isn't allowed to be used if Zelda's about to upload it because it's not free :|
Your version looks very nice, too :) Just the pipes appear really huge.

zelda101
10th Jan 2013, 9:25 PM
missflirty, Nice work! I seen it, but I think the outside isn't accurate all that much, I followed my lot extensively using pictures and blueprints, it's good though! And those columns are great! But it's a shame it's not free, like buying a $50 game isn't enough :/

BourgeoisBanana, yeah it'll do, but for accuracy's sake I wanted it to be as close to the real thing as I can make it. And the grand staircase I feel is the main attraction to the project, as I made a bold decision to limit what I furnish now. It's too much cc for people to download, and it's already confusing to list what I used so far. And that's the reason why I remade the ship several times. I'll post a picture of the floor plans after I load the game.

brendanm999, Well once I did upload a test lot of the second part a few posts ago. And that's near done, and right now, I'm working on the third part to furnish the third lot with the 1st class lounge the same way as before (I posted pics of it a while back) and I don't know if I should do the dinning room because it's just too much cc and really time consuming. That room is HUGE. And I'm going to furnish a few staterooms, and the hallways. And when I'm done that I'll work on the 4th which includes the smoking room and possibly the verandah court.

For the rooms that I'm not using, I blacked them out the same way EA does with the apartment buildings.

missflirty
10th Jan 2013, 11:24 PM
No, I know that :) got tired after making 40 boats, so I just quit trying... I'm more for the interior, and want that to be as good as it can be.. Like the Rose suite, can't come any closer than that :) And yes, the pipes are to big, but i just wanted something there, to get a feeling that it was titanic..
I know, but i found two webbsites that you can get some of the stuff for free... I hate that you have to pay for really good things :/

But anyway, I'm working on the grand staircase floor tiles now, because mine is not very good, and the one that you used is to small, and because of that it was a little to much.. So I'm making my own :)
I downloaded your "testversion" and it was stunning ! Good work :D

I ended up doing the dinning room after all, it's still not done, and I also redid another pattern for the tiles. The room is so expensive, the lot will cost over 1 million by the time I'm done this part.

Someone just released a Titanic lamp set (http://www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/details/category/sims3-sets-objects-adultbedroom/title/1912-lamp-set/id/1185215/) at TSR that would be perfect for this project. :)

What i understand per the rules is that you can have TSR content in your uploads BUT only if the artist is not an FA (gold badge status) and doesn't contain subscriber-only content ;)

Titanic is looking beautiful, just like the original :lovestruc

i think they're are several well known ways to acquire TSR stuff for free, so as long as where to get them is alluded to, people will be able to find them? Amazing work - Bloomsbase is a hero, as are you Zelda. I was already amazed by those doors - but tranparent glass would be very very very cool to see!. I love checking in on this project - it's so inspiring and cool to see things improve little by little, and fun to see what the most creative members of the sims community can do when they get together. dangmal

That was suggested and responded to by a sims guru who said "i don't think the Titanic would fit on a 64x64 lot" suggesting - or just outright saying - that that would be the largest size possible. So i'm pretty sure that wouldn't work. Also have you seen the houseboats? they look like trash - they're just square bases, no hull, nothing to make it look like a boat. It just looks like a square building, pootling along on the water. And, the bases will be set sizes so you won't even be able to have long thin barges. I find this decision baffling to say the least... Hope everything is still going well with this project though

according to EAs new EULA, all the contents on TSR and other sites that offer sims 3 stuff, belong to no one but EA themselves. therefore, it's legal to download donation stuff on so called "pirate sites" for free, and it's also peachy, if you put subscriber CC into your projects, and offer them for download on mts or anywhere else. ;) 'cause, of course, selfmade subscriber content still belongs to EA, not to the creator (because the base meshes are sims 3 format and property). I mean, you can't take a da vinci, change it a bit, and then sell it as your own work, can you? that'd be ridiculous. XD that said, you can put into your projects anything you want, and no one can blame you or sue you for that. :D

awesome work, btw XD can't wait, 'till you finish it. *.*

As long as the work is not recognizable at all you can claim it as your own. Let's say you use a ball as base mesh, but build a car over it.. it's yours, because the ball is obviously gone. Creator made meshes can be claimed as own work, recolors on the other hand.. or just slight adjustments for that sake, shouldn't be. Adding some freckles to someone elses skin doesn't make it yours.

BloomsBase

you never ever can claim a EA's sims3pack or package as yours, simple as that.
unless you only upload the mesh and texture and let people build there own sims3pack or package.

yep, that's exactly my point. :) as long, as the format of the content is sims3pack or package, it's property of EA. and since you can only use this formats for the game, well... guess the rest. ;) as soon, as a creator saves his work in the EA format, it automatically belongs to EA, and no longer to the creator. therefore I can use any content made by fans (no matter if donation or not) in my lots or whatsoever, and no one can blame me for that, 'cause according to the EA Eula I've done nothing wrong or illegal.

in this sense, cheers!

You might well be able to use pay CC without scrutiny from EA over where you got it, however upload guidelines on this site require that all content shown is free (and not through pirate sites, we mean free from the point of origin). I just thought it was worth mentioning that in this discussion. ;)

oh, well. if EA says, it's free, then it's free, ain't it? no matter, if some jerks on TSR or elsewhere think, they could make profit with stuff, that was offered by EA for sims fans for free purposes. I was just reffering to that one post by zelda101, where she states her problem with some stuff, which she requested by some creator on TSR. she wants to use this stuff for her project here, but is not sure, if it would be alright to offer it here on MTS, 'cause that one mentioned creator on TSR made it a subscribers only download.

really, if it were me, I wouldn't give a damn about if it's subscribers only or not. but then again, she would have to upload it on another site, I guess, for MTS's rules don't allow that, eh? there are plenty of such sites, though. :)

anyway, whichever option she chooses, I'll just wait patiently for this great project to be finished, so I can get it and enjoy it. :3

When people spend time making something that takes a lot of time and is their own personal work I think it's up to them deciding what to do with it. Taking credit or redistributing other people's work without crediting is not fair. If I download a movie and add an extra scene is still not my work. And also if I make a file in photoshop (psd files) it's not Adobe who owns the right to my work, even though they have untroduced the file type. If people think this way it will end up with people not wanting to create anymore. I do not pay for stuff myself though, but I don't redistribute other people's work. I rather find a free site.

certainly, I agree with you. crediting the work is definitly important, and the creator deserves this.

And also if I make a file in photoshop (psd files) it's not Adobe who owns the right to my work, even though they have untroduced the file type.

well, in that case you have to read the legal requirements (or whatever it's called). I'm not sure what is written in adobe's contract conditions about that. BUT the psd format is their property. JPEG, PNG, GIF (and so on) on the other hand is not. and no one publicates or sells their work as a PSD file, but as JPEG or some of the other common formats. of course, because you can use PSD only with photoshop, and no other software. there we go, it's the same, as with the sims3pack and packages case. :) if you safe your work as a file/format, which no party claims as their property, you can do with that, whatever you please. though I don't think, adobe prohibited photoshop users to operate free with their PSD format.
EA on the other hand did. as far as I know, they say that in their EULA. just read the damn thing, and you will know. XD I'm just a german first year law student, so how do I know? XD

oh, and if you find any mistakes... well, finders keepers. :)

Regardless of thoughts on pay content vs piracy and how EA and others interpret the EULA, MTS has a policy against pay content. You are not allowed to upload something with pay content in it, regardless of if you can pirate it elsewhere. The origin of the creation is all that matters. You may feel otherwise personally, but MTS upholds that policy. Unfortunately, that means that any TSR Featured Artist creations, even if it is free right now, is not permitted in uploads. Anything that is a pay item or comes from a pay artist is off limits here.

Whiterider
5th Mar 2013, 9:04 AM
Someone suggested that the OP ask the creator for permission to include the lamps in their upload here, for free. That would be the best solution. :)

Any further posts should be suggestions and feedback on the (beautiful!) lot, not debates about the rights and wrongs of pay content and its redistribution.

I'm back! And I worked on it today, I've been pretty busy lately.

But I added lights to the front of the ship. This isn't gonna be available for all the lots because of the 6 story limit the game has.
I also shrunk the front of the ship, it was way longer than necessary.

But here's the update.

This is GRAND in every sense of the word! Absolutely stunning. You've really done well with the furnishings and finding the right CC to use (must have spent ages on that alone). And as someone else mentioned way back, the colours are really lovely too.

I thought about those too! The fact is that those towers are ok for castles and mansions but I don't think they'd fit on a boat.
They're rather small (1x1 if I'm not mistaken) so you would need to pile up a few, and they have those peepholes.
They would look too skinny and weird, and piling would be impossible since they said they already reached the 5th floor building limit. :|

You are right! and thanks for the tip, but that is too small for this ship.
I'm not trying to be picky but the funnels have to be huge to match up with the ship.. 1x1 is going to be tiny if you think how big the lots are. They should be the size of the dome basically, around 8x8..

Staking is possible for items though, I can just use those OMSP :)
