There are lots of threads here about the did you like best about Sims 1 so I was wondering how many people still play the game?

If you do still play it why?

As I've not played it I am wondering :)

Yes, I still play it from time to time! I find the gameplay a lot more challenging than Sims 3 and Sims 2- it's tough just to keep your sim's needs in the green.

If you have all of the expansion packs then there is a lot to do- it takes a long time to make your sim a superstar or learn magic, so it's a good job they don't age. And there is a lot of collecting to do- charms, ingredients, souvenirs, awards... gardening is a lot of work and everyday ojects can be enchanted with hilarious effect.

There is still a lot of Sims 1 CC out there too, so now is the time to get downloading, before it all disappears!

Yes, I still play it from time to time. I'm not sure why it pulls at me, but it does. Sometimes I miss the objects, like the canning station, or the fact that I can create a household idea around canning fruit to make money, sometimes I miss the old Goth home, or Bob and Betty, or the family that I recreate all the time. I don't play it for as long as I did before, but I keep coming back.

Yep! Its on my laptop, so when I'm bored I play it once in a while. I can't play it for too long though, it makes me want to play Sims 2 xD (not a bad thing, its just if I play anything sims related, i would rather be playing my main hood in TS2) But when I play it, i see interactions I've forgotten since I started playing in 2000.

I still play it! Though I need to replace my disks, since I'm missing some.

I find it amusing to play when you're frustrated with TS2, or TS3. It's a huge change from them.

I reinstalled it last summer and still play it from time to time. It makes a nice change from TS2/TS3 as I think all three games have such a different gameplay/style; it depends what I want from my sims game as to which one I play, although I do probably play TS1 the least out of the three. It's also quite nostalgic, playing it again. There are certain aspects to the game that TS2/TS3 don't have which I still enjoy, particularly the way magic was done in TS1. Not to mention the super quick loading times the game has these days, even with all the custom content I have installed for it. I remember when I first started playing and it would take forever just to get to the neighborhood screen!

I reinstalled it on my old computer a few months ago. I got a new computer like two months ago and havent really been interested in it since. I still have all my games ... those will never leave me, even if I may or may not play them again.

I don't even own it anymore. I had the complete box set and sold it to cash generator a few months ago. I have a Mac now anyway so it wasn't compatible. I know if I played it now the primitive graphics and gameplay would piss me off.

As I've not played it I am wondering :)

I've always had TS1 on my main computer, and whenever I reinstall the OS on a new hard drive, TS1 is always in the first batch of games to get installed.

Saying that though, I don't really play it. Would love to, but the bigger my monitor gets the worse it looks, and although I love to see all those old objects etc it saddens me how much the game is aging with each technological improvement :(
I've kept all my downloads and all my programs for it, I even have my old TS1 website still intact in a folder somewhere.
There is a lot I miss about it though, and so many downloads I never got round to testing in the game, that I may be encouraged to start it up if only to see those items in game. In the same way we all moved onto TS2 because it was so entirely different, I guess it's also a good enough reason to go back to TS1, because it's so different.

I think that nothing in the future can give a better "Simfeeling" than The Sims, the original! Therefore I play it now and then.

I must tell that Andrew Arcade have just started a Let's Play series with Sims first He is a former well known for his LP's with Sims 3 under the name HeadbuttArcade. All of his videos was removed from the Internet by some reasons but he have put them up again now, very enjoyable for sure.

I play it every day. Why? Mainly because of the fantastic content. There's so much to do and everything is so pretty and looks great. I've been making a bunch of houses as well, (which are in my live journal link in my sig for download.)

I also love that it's fast, and all the interactions. Unleashed is also far better than Pets, it's sad how much they didn't add into the second game. :(

When I was a kid I only had 1 or 2 expansions, so now that I have a bit more money I brought them all (never know when they'll become obsolete). It is such an awesome game with all the expansions.

I have just bought all the ep's for Sims 1 for the first time after hearing people talk about the charm of the game. I want to experience it for myself. I am an avid Sims 2 player (Sims 3 just isn't for me) but I think Sims 1 will be a great alternative for when I need a little break. I'm also a cc addict so I'll definitely be going on a download spree this weekend! :)

I did not enter the world of the Sims until one day while walking around in the store Best Buy I then discover Sims 2 when I over- heard two people talking about it.

But I have heard some very nice things about Sims 1 it's just that I never knew about it until I started playing Sims 2, I am sure if I knew during that time that Sims 1 was out there I may have play Sims 1.

Why do people always focus on graphics as though it's the only thing in the world that matters? I mean c'mon - Bonehilda! Who gives a toss about the Goth's picture postcard house?

Bonehilda is awesome!! :jest: I have to agree, why do people pay for better for graphics and mayde not a good game just for the graphics. I play old games like sims 1 beacuase it is fun and who really cares adout the graphics if you are enjoying the game?

You can not compare The Sims and Sims 3, it's two completely different games. With The Sims 3 the graphics quality very important, I think, but in The Sims there are so many fun details that do not exist now, and an unmatched sense of humor.
But there are also many other games that are played by many and that is very funny, as Mind Craft, Terarria, Tetris, and others which also has crappy graphic but also very much appreciated. The graphics are not essential for these games.
I sometimes play Frenzy on a Sinclair Spectrum, a computer and a game that is about 25 years old, but still very amusing!
And what about the classical PacMan

You can visit the Goth house in Sims 3? I didn't know the Goths were even in Sims 3. But, anyway, what kind of fun things can you do in that house? It's not as fun as Sims 1 with Bonehilda and all!

It's not so much the graphics but the gameplay. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the game growing up but gaming has moved on since then. I just know I wouldn't be able to stick my child sim staying a child forever.

Seems a bit odd - why didn't you say that then rather than post comparison pictures?

I have to say, the first picture you posted screams "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!" to me whereas the second says "this is a nice house." I'm not a fan of TS3 gameplay anyway, I'll freely admit, but even so I can't get excited about that TS3 picture - it doesn't say anything other than 'this looks pretty'.

I was trying to find a better Sims 3 picture on google but couldn't :')

If there was a mod to allow sims in The Sims 1 to grow and die I probably would re-play it.

Edit: A mod changing the font to anything but Comic Sans wouldn't be a bad thing either.

I think I've played it a total of three or four times since 2004. I found it fun for a little while (a couple of hours), but then it got really repetitive and old.
I loved it when I was a young'un, don't get me wrong! Especially the Sims Superstar EP. I always thought it was interesting in the Sims Vacations EP that people could "Play" in the tents... didn't understand it until my sister explained it to me (I was in the fourth grade, sheesh!). They did rate it T for Teen.

No I don't play it anymore but its not by choice.

Back when the sims 2 came out the computer i had ts1 on at the time was old and i couldnt transfer the files to the newer computer i had. Then a fire wiped out both computers. I would have reinstalled ts1 but most of the sites that i used to go to for downloads closed its doors after the release of ts2 and i had a lot of cc and quite a few custom families. :( theres still quite a few things i miss about the sims 1 and if it werent for misfortune i would still be playing it on occasion with my sims 2.

And also I agree with Lisen, you cant really judge a games replay value on graphics. There's a plethora old games that SUCK in terms of todays graphics but they still retain their fun value years after their release.

Wow! A Sims 1 forum. Awesome!! And ...Yes, I do play it still. I have it installed on two computers. My old one can't play the Sims 2 or 3, so the game I have on there is quite old.
On my main computer,I devised a little game for myself where I recreated the original neighborhood from the Sims 1 and put the characters and houses on the Sims 2 and 3. I'm playing all three in rotation to see how the stories turn out after starting the same way. I have to say that the Sims 1 is the most challenging to play. Relationships are very hard to keep high. An 'Apocalypse' style challenge would be impossible on the Sims 1. ( I know they don't age, but for even Gen 1)
The humor on the Sims 1 is probably the best part. That's what keeps me coming back. I play Sims 2 the most, but Sims 1 is a strong second!!

I have re-installed it, but it doesn't work well with my PC. Too advanced, maybe. :( Even when I did manage to play for a bit without the game crashing, I still didn't get as involved as I used to. It's kind of sad.
For now, I'll stick with TS2. Maybe someday I'll also find some new inspiration for a TS1 neighborhood.

I was really pleased to see this new section of the forum. I hope that with it will come a download section so we can upload skins/objects/mods. I have made a few TS1 skins in the past. It's funny because I learned to create for TS1 after TS3 and TS2. :)

It was such a loong time ago that I played Sims 1 (the base game only) at my parents' house. It was maybe 7 years or so.

I remember when the sims woke up before their energy bar was full and they did a kind of "stompy dance". I used to hate it and love it at the same time! They were so damn hillarious. There was a unique charm to the game even though it comparatively lacked the superficially appealing factors like graphics and 3D. The sims were very lively and funny, sometimes annoying too. But lovely nonetheless.

I think I used only one mod/hacked object, a kind of chair which raised all the motives. In TS2 I find it quite easy to keep the motives up and never ever have needed to use any hack/cheat related to motives, but it was really hard in TS1 for me.

 The sims are somehow more fun in Sims 1!

Also, I like the shrug thing they do when they routefail. I always got sims stuck quite a lot due to my poor lot designs- my original Sim Sample character was the one who always tested out the vacation resorts I made, so he would die in many unforseen ways. Usually between a buffet table and a chair in the restaurant, or between a wall and a pot plant in the bathroom.

Do you mean a potted plant or do you really mean a 'pot' plant? The reason I ask is because one of my downloads for the Sims 1 was a 'pot' plant! I used it for my druggie family! LOL!

I mean, hullo, beds? They have so much more detail and look so comfy, the plant life looks so pretty, hell, I even like how the walls & floors look.
But then, I grew up with Pac Man and Super Mario and Playstation 1, so everything to me looks pretty much awesome, lol.
But of course, being the format that it is, games were able to take for granted the level of detail without messing up the game-play in low-end comps. Can you imagine what SC4 would be like if you could play it like the sims 2? I think my computer would start smoking. It can only just manage to play SC4 on high detail.

Also, if you have Makin' Magic, it's actually pretty easy to make a sim child grow up to an adult.

I love the sims 1. I've installed it on both windows vista (in compatibility mode for XP) , and now on my new computer on windows 7 (did not have to use compatibility mode or anything). Sims 2 is the best of the 3 , in my opinion. I just don't like sims 3, though I have spent Way too much on it.

Sims 1 is just so Fun, so simple, and so back to basics. I WISH they would make a new sims, perhaps with some of the more advanced graphics, but more like sims 1. I want to play multiple families easily in the same neighborhood, and I want a simple family photo album. The sims 1 has all that. Also there's quite a bit of custom furniture, floors and walls out there which I've been downloading. It's just a shame the official sims 1 website, with it's exchange is gone.

I think it's great that you have a sims 1 forum on here. I have the original sims 1 base game and all EP's. But I wanted to check out the complete collection on 4 discs. So I bought it used on amazon.com. Works great, and I love the (new at the time but crude now) sims creator where you can easily add custom patterns and textures.

Edit: I still Love the original intro and have enjoyed the youtube links! Unfortunately the sims complete collection did away with that intro. I see a passing silver screen instead.

I tried playing it yesterday and just couldn't get into it. I think it had been about a year since I did. I think I have all the expansion packs for it.

I never played TS2 and TS1 was all I had before buying TSM and then TS3..so I thought it'd be nice to fire it up because almost all of my current Sims are updated versions of my TS1 Sims and with some of them I had forgotten how they got their beginnings. I remember some of them came from large households but I only picked one or two from those households and created them on the newer versions.

I still play it- when I don't create for it , which I do mostly...

I do have Sims 2 also and have been trying to get into the gameplay but ... it is just not the same as Sims for me. Building is fun though and I ahve tried making walls and floors and a few female clothes.

I am hooked on creating for Sims 1. Skins ( clothing ...) this summer but also maxis matching objects.

Personally I wouldn't play with out any of the enhancments from some sites.
Simlogical's Bathroom doors is a must. Locks behind a sim and stops those weird gatherings in the bathrooms.
C&c Enterprises A la carte fridge. Guyiko Cherry Blossom Sims all wonderful different food trays . No more boring food !
Woobshas Better living objects that enhance the game play but not maxing out anything so it is still fun to play. There is alot more and off course Custom content to every theme you can imagine! :p

Yes, some Sims 1 sites has died. Some is still online . Some has been hosted by the Saving the Sims theme . Some is hosted at CTO. Some new sites has popped up the past 4 years that are awsome. Some forums still exists. Simblesse Oblige is a great place to check out for info on Sims 1 gameplay and creating.

Once I start downloading I can't stop! I've been at it for weeks. I keep going back to the custom content /mods thread. One site leads to another, especially if you look at each sites Links. It goes on into infinity :lovestruc . I still wish I could get to some sites that just aren't around anymore though, and the official site and exchange I really miss. But there are still quite a few good custom content sites out there.

I always loved TS1 thought I never more played it. But I have it installed in an old computer and sometimes I fire it to remember how the original characters were. I changed TS2 completely to be an improved version of TS1, that's why no one understands when I talk about TS2. I modded for TS1 and just recycled my knowledgements to mod TS2 backwards.
TS1 was a very popular game and we bought TS2 because we loved TS1. When we saw that it was a different game where the sims looked like bad copies of The Simpsons, it was a big struggle to correct their disgusting look and that took years of waste time. TS1 had 7 units, base game plus 6 EPs. TS2 has 16 units and it is a pain to reinstall when required. Normally the base game of any The Sims costs around Kr 600 (about 80 to 100 dollars), every EP costs around Kr 450 and every SP around Kr 200. It is a very expensive game. Yesterday I checked the shop prices for TS3 and it is exactly the same. I checked also all what is available in the market in terms of game for PC and they are either qualified for small children or have high degree of violence. None of them are possible to customize.
TS1 and TS2 were so popular that special PC magazines dedicated pages for the game. Most of the custom contents I got for TS1 and early TS2 were taken from such magazines. If you look for old issues from PC magazines you still can recover much custom contents. I had subscriptions and tons of magazines. I disposed them after I became a sufficient modder.
I agree, TS1 was simple and perfect for people that want just to have fun without any kind of stress. Unfortunately it is extremely obsolete.
No hope for a good new version of TS1. The company EA has another agenda and is trying to create a new kind of audience, one that swallows without chewing.

Yeah , I finally gave in and joined some yahoo sim groups , "SIMCredible" finally got the best of me. What I don't like is you can't even see the photos until you join the group. And I don't want to join tons of yahoo groups if I can't even see What they have there first. But it's true when you start searching you can find all kinds of things. Sometimes it's the prolonged search that is Fun!

Wow, games must be much more expensive in Europe and other countries. Fortunately in the U.S. games are Much cheaper, especially the old games once the new ones have come out. You can get sims 1 and 2 for almost nothing. As for installing so many "units", or EP's and SP's, I'm sure the sims 2 came out with a "complete collection" including all EP's , SP's and probably even some extras. I haven't actually looked into that . But for sims 1 I am SO glad I got the complete collection on 4 discs! It was worth looking for it used.

That's so funny I have never heard of the sims 2 called "Simpsons" ! I'm partial to sims 2 (the Best!). Of course my sims 2 sims had Loads of custom content for their looks! I would spend Hours creating a sims 2 sim and tweaking their facial features. I can't stand how the sims 3 sims look. Maybe I just don't have the talent to create them? I have seen some that look O.K.

Of course I do! It's awesome in every single way - the music, the humour, the simplicity! It may be not so elaborate like TS2/3 and it can get boring after some time, but I always come back.
Btw, it's great to have this new forum :D Have you guys seen the list of CC sites (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=480970) here? It's really amazing.

I have not too long ago. I lost all my game discs (except for one...but it's so badly scratched.) I want to buy the complete collection again because I miss it. It brings back good memories of how I figured out about the sims and all that jazz plus there are things in it I miss (minus the tragic clown...he scared the crap out of me back then...XD)

I have not played it in a few years, but I have thought about getting back into it after I do an intense search for CC. I do miss its charm, and I like how it's perfectly playable on a netbook.

As for those of you who can't get over the eternal-child thing, there used to be a mod/tool that allowed one to manually grow children into teens. I forget what it was called, but I loved it. Basically, they used children's heads with ultra-skinny, adult bodies. Unfortunately, the dad in my test family was able to perform romantic interactions with his daughter. So, you'll just have to avoid that if you can.

I haven't played the orignal game for several years. I keep thinking of getting to it, since I still have folders marked with the saved game files. I loved the Pets and Superstar expansion, where I'd have George Bush living in the White House, and becoming a superstar in the Hollywood town. Oh good times. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever get back to that, lol.

I have it on my netbook. It has Windows XP and a gig of ram, so playing Sims 2 or 3 wouldn't be a great idea. As it is, the netbook balks at any expansion beyond Unleashed, and I have to play The Sims on the 800 x 600 setting. I used to play it on console back in 2006; I've come back to it from time to time on the PC since 2009. When I'm in an area where I have to wait a while or am just plain bored, I'll put it on. I played it just yesterday while waiting what seemed like forever in a doctor's office. It beat reading the same old tired mags again. I'll play it when I visit my mother as well and I need a quick Sim fix before bedtime. She won't even use a cell phone or get any more than basic cable (and she found herself somewhat forced to do that if she wanted to still watch TV) ... I doubt I could convince her to get a computer or the Internet!

When I played yesterday, I did forget the quirkiness and humor in the game. It is silly, but in a good way. Sims 2 has those characteristics as well, but it's different somehow. Others here have pointed these differences out better than I.

I debate whether to go back and use it for fun. But, to seriously play it like I play Sims 2, no. I like the age progression too much, plus the genetics, and recognized family ties. It would be neat in Sims 4, if the kids refer to their parents as Mom and Dad or siblings as brother or sister etc. Maybe that simple gesture is too technical! :|

For Sims 1, I'd go back to play SS again, but I don't want to go through all the installations. However, never say never! :)

Yes, I still play Sims 1 and I miss the railroad and Simcity set I once had.. and how I had to rely on imagination because Sims 1 provides less info about sims than Sims 2. I notice Sims 1 is about objects. Sims 2 is about the sims. Of course, I had ALL the Sims 1 expansions and hundreds of custom objects.
The only sad thing is adjusting my desires down. What once looked beautiful in Sims 1 now looks simple and homely compared to Sims 2. I had the same problem switching from CGA and EGA to high color.

zorba2357

I agree that sims 1 is about the objects (don't know Why? It just is), and sims 2 is about the Sims themselves (and that's why it's the Best Ever! and probably ever will be, sigh!) . And I will add that sims 3 is about buying junk from the EA store, Lots and lots of junk that adds up to be very expensive , and that's what it's all about. It's Nice junk, but that's about it. That's why I haven't looked at, installed, played, or bought anything for sims 3 anymore and don't intend to.

sim_serenity: nice avatar :)

I've been playing it again, I downloaded the desperate housewives sims from TSR. It's been fun but it's also a bit stressful. Time goes on too fast and sims needs drain even faster. I feel I'm constantly racing and that's exhausting.

I would love to slow the game-play down, either with a mod similar to Twallan's relativity that lets you choose how slow/fast sim time goes past, or maybe a mod that slows their need drop.

I've been experimenting with mood mods but so far I've not found anything that suits me or my gameplay.

Playing TS1 makes me miss playing my main hood in TS3. There are so many things I never did in TS1 so there is much for me to discover, but as somebody already said, TS1 is very much about the objects, not so much relationships. I really miss zooming very close to my Sims and looking at their expressions when they do things. Specially when they socialize. In TS1 the sims somehow stay very distant and I can't get attached to them.

But regardless it's still fun, and nostalgic and I'll probably keep on playing because the reason I installed it was so I could have a casual game I can play on my laptop for a few minutes.

What's also fun is seeing some of the TS1 object make a come-back in TS3. Like http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/aniradeth/Sims%201/VanDeKamp_7_0006.jpg the picnic basket. I always wished it would make a comeback in TS2 but it never did, also the food carts will make an appearance with season which I really like.

That picture is about Orson and Bree having a lunch in the park.

I actually have the computer game "Desperate Housewives" bought years ago but for some reason I never got around to installing it. I still have it sitting on a shelf. I think I only have enough time, energy , and focus for 1 game (sims!). That's true, in sims 1 you can't zoom into their faces. That's one reason sims 2 was a Huge step up from sims 1. And also being able to tweak and create their faces in game , (sims 2 CAS and also bodyshop) and make them unique, not just "heads".

I love Sims 1. I love the graphics, the music, the speed, the personalities, the objects, the things to do... But I don't play it. Why? Because of their fast-decaying needs. I can't stand it. They never have time to really do anything besides get their needs up and go to work. Whenever I do play TS1, I always find myself going right back to TS2 because then I don't have such fast-decaying needs to worry about.

That's really my pet-peeve of TS1. I would play it so much if it didn't have that flaw.

I installed TS1 a while ago after not playing for at least 6 or 7 years. I was so incredibly nostalgic, but at the same time, something about it just made it less captivating for me. I originally wanted to say graphics, but thinking it over I think its actually the controls and not really remembering an effective playstyle to enjoy the game with. On the other hand, playing vanilla with no custom skins probably didn't help... I had quite a few custom skins when I used to play to give my sims more variety.

Maybe I'll give Hot Date, Makin Magic and Superstar a try... I never had those as a kid but they came with the complete collection when I grabbed it.

The only problem is if i get too into TS1, I'm probably going to get the urge to play other old games from my childhood I can't find that won't have a snowball's chance of being sold anywhere.

I first knew about the sims 2 through friends at school, how ever I was only allowed the original sims because of how pricey the sims 2 was at the time until Christmas of course.

I had The sims, unleashed and if I remember rightly maybe a few over expansion packs. Sadly I can not play the game even if I wanted too, when I moved to my dads from my mums I ended up leaving the games for my brother just to scratch up and ruin. My dad ended up buying most of the sims 2 games shortly after anyway.

As much as I loved the original sims it was far to hard for me to enjoy, keeping their need's bars in the green was a nightmare and I still find it challenging to do so with the sims 2/3.

I do how ever kind of miss the original sims, it is just a part of my childhood, I don't bother playing sims 2. Even though I personally believe it was better made compared to the sims 3 bugs wise.

I tried to play The Sims 1 last week and it was really challenging. I think 2 and 3 are a cake walk compared to 1. I forgot how fast their needs dropped. Seems I spent the whole game eating, sleeping, using the toilet and showering. Add, rinse, repeat.

I still play TS2 on occasion. I will never get rid of my Sims 2.

Don't get me wrong, I had a blast playing Sims 1, I just forgot how really hard it was.

Though it may be a slight hassle to run it properly on my computer, that tends to happen with those older games, my old laptop would probably play it, but that thing is beyond most use now lol. True. :|

After all of the fuss about Windows 8, I went out and got a new gaming desktop computer that had Windows 7 Professional installed on it (only 6 were left in stock). Not sure if the Sims 1 will work well with that or not, but my laptop that is also used for gaming, has Vista Home Premium on it.

So, we'll see how things go, should I take the plunge again.

I've started playing the Sims 1 again after discovering the Complete Collection in my local computer shop. So I decided to purchase it and start playing again. You know, there was a lot of cool stuff in The Sims 1. I find it odd that with all of the great object creators out there, some of whom have even made objects from the Sims 2 for The Sims 3 and vice versa, that no one has thought to remake all of the cool things from The Sims 1 in The Sims 2 or The Sims 3. I mean c'mon, there's all of these things made for prisons for example, but no one thought to remake the stainless steel sink and toilet from TS1 to go with those TS2/TS3 prisons? There were a lot of cool things exclusive to the console version as well, like the Sonic Shower and the Teppanyaki Table.

I had never tried out The Sims 1 until January. I installed everything and started playing.
I remember how i thought everything was sooo cozy and it looked so nice and loading a househould would take just seconds!
Starting to play i made a sim that i thought was very cute, she got a work as a teacher.

After that things started to go worse, after the second day at work she died in a fire (something went wrong when she cooked or something). So i reloaded, secondly there were cats and dogs all over the place that made a mess in the garden! (I fixed that). I also noticed that she had to go to work EVERY day (oh dear..) and she had no friends, when i tried to interact with people they were like '' Oh hi! Okay, yeah thats great. Uhm.. no.. i don't care.. your weird.. stay of me ''. I sent my sim to an vacation where she had a great time, all the people she interacted with did not like her, maybe Gamma that had a 50+ relationship with her in the end, they later became friends when she arrived home.

Since children can't/ don't dare to say no to adult Sims in this game, i made friends with lots of kids! (That is a bit awkward though).
When she arrived home a bear walked by the house.. did not expect that.

I got tired of her going in and out of that stupid carpool so i tried making her a celebrity. I reached 2 stars (i loved Superstar) but the thing with being a model was a bit hard..
After that i accidently uninstalled the game -_-

Regarding installation of TS1 Complete Collection on W7, I got it to work but it's a little glitchy and crashes every so often. However, the same can be said for a few other games so it's not unique, and the fact it loads within moments makes the crashing less of a problem than say, TS2 (all EPs/SPs and oodles of CC) doing the same.
As for playing itself, I've not reinstalled it since the last time I had to reset my laptop (March this year), so not recently. I'm having too much fun with TS2 in all honesty.

It's a life simulation game, but unlike most games, you don't "lose" or "win," and there is no "right" or "wrong" way to play. Think of it as a virtual dollhouse where you control the lives of the little people within. The game is completely open ended, and you can explore different careers and goals, date, marry and raise a family, etc. I have a friend who almost never plays with the Sims themselves, but spends all his time on the game designing and building houses. As for me, I prefer to play out various life scenarios, be it the playboy or nymph, or the solid loving family, or the dysfunctional freaky family, or the lazy slacker who won't bother finding work, or the homeless nomad who showers at the gym and harvests his daily food.

But at its core, it is a life simulation game. In the PC version, different expansions introduce elements that do change gameplay, such as World Adventures, which brings in a quasi-RPG/strategy feel without removing the life simulation aspect.

I just asked about this. So a sudden crash could possibly be because it's installed on my Windows 7 computer? The only other game that crashes on that pc is Simcity 4 but that is because I have dual core and couldn't fix it as suggested to use only one. It still crashed. If W7 is the cause, I guess I can live with that. Just save often.

I only play TS1 only in short bursts, because while I like the feelings of nostalgia I get when I play it, the gameplay is lacking when compared to TS2/TS3.

I am 62 years old and I just installed my 'The Sims Complete Collection' [purchased back in 2006 from Amazon for the crazy price of $26!] on this Win XP laptop. Makes the 3rd computer I have installed it on.

My adult daughter and I originally purchased The Sims 1 and all expansions and played them for years.I still have them, but this collection is more convenient with only 4 discs to install.Even got my granddaughter addicted to the Sims!

We both bought The Sims 2 hated it,unistalled it and never looked back.I can't stand 3-D games, they make me dizzy/nauseous and I can't navigate them let... alone try to build in them, plus I did not like the marionette puppet looks of those sims, nor the aging or gameplay objectives.

Sims 3 looks much better and I was considering it,but now see that Sims 4 is coming out so will wait. Not sure I will be able to adjust to 3-D,though.

Meanwhile, it is so great to play with simmies who do not age and I am in complete control!

However, I miss so much all the fan made custom content. We used to have thousands of downloads on our computers! Miss the 'Huge' forum that existed then too,the stories were often hilarious!

Oh gosh, I have to say i have ALL of the Sims games. One of the best Sims is the Original. It is so much fun, but like so, it has all changed now. From the graphics, to new interactions, and i have to say I just LOVE Bonehilda, and I am so glad that EA decided to make her appear in the Sims 3 Supernatural! I play the Original Sims on my GameCube everyday! I feel as if the Sims will always have a place in my heart (that sounds kinda odd but whatever) ^^

The last time I played TS1 was probably in 2003-4. Its been a long time.

I try and play now and then for nostalgic purposes, but then I remember that all of my old families are gone and that all I have left of them are picture albums. It's fun to play, but after ten minutes, I get really depressed that my old families are gone. Then I stop playing. To this day though, the build and buy mode songs get stuck in my head. <3

I've put the music from Sims 1 in my Sims 2 game. It is classic and it makes you just feel good. I really liked when one of the expansions of Sims 2 included the Sims 1 shopping music.

I always liked the Oogie oo oo song, which they've put in to TS3 now.
I liked the campfire song as well, wish they still did the campfire singing like TS1.
