View Full Version : What do you do when you're getting bored of the game?

I'm getting seriously bored of The Sims 3. I went through a phase like this with The Sims 2 but luckily that was 4 months before the release of Sims 3. God knows when/if Sims 4 will be released.

I miss playing the game for hours at a time without being bored.

What do you guys do once it starts getting boring?

Well, I usually start going through a serious building phase. I grab a favorite world and start bulldozing and constructing new houses. I just started doing that following a Victorian theme and I am changing every house. Then when I get tire of building I go back to my saved game as normal.

I usually play through adventures, or level my collecting skill. I really love exploring the neighborhoods and vacation worlds and finding what kind of neat things I can pick up. It works hand in hand with fishing and gardening too.

I pick something off my todo list and update one of my mods.

Though I will admit that is not something most users can do on a whim. :)

I mostly just make worlds, so if I get bored with that I fish for compliments on my worlds on the sims forums to inspire me to do more.

Sometimes I play the actual game too, but not much xD

I build until I'm tired of that. Find a world with just empty lots and go for city planning or organize my cc collection.

Since I am really bad at building I usually just start a new family in a world that I haven't ever played or haven't played in a long time, and like mentioned already I send my sim exploring to see what new things I can find. I also get my sim to learn new skills I've never bothered with before. I actually just had my sim master the mixology skill and learned I really like it. I enjoy my sim being able to learn how to make all the drinks the clubs and lounges offer.

I check out the CC on this site and on others to get inspired by a lot or world or mod or clothing. That usually gets me imaginative with sims and making stories for them to play out. If my boredom is extreme, I return to TS2 or play GTA IV.

I usually make a new family, give almost everyone the jobs from Ambitions, make a teen the most flirtatious and commitment-phobic teen around, give them parents with interesting traits and an uncle with traits opposite of their parents, and then add on 4+ babies and toddlers to make their lives stressful.

Haha, I once had a couple have like...10-12 kids. I nearly went mad. It was in a condo in Bridgeport and I ened up having to put one of the dressers out on the deck to make room for the cribs. Now I literally fear my sims having children. :faceslap:

I should try that sometime. I've managed to create homes with enough room for eight with NICE bedrooms on a 10x10 lot... and that was before bunk beds. I'm sure that I could make 12 kids workable on a teeny tiny lot. *rubs hands together and cackles evilly*

Funny, this same problem just happened to me today after my third crash on a new user profile. I literally started thinking of the old music from TS2 and installed all the games again. Played and then sadly saw the reason I switched...
I love TS2 but the open world in TS3 is so much more interesting....
So yes, switching does it good for me...because then you want to play the other one.
But they both have their headaches....boredom included...

I am bored with the game, too. Pets held my interest for about a month. Showtime, about a week. I suspect the supernatural stuff will keep me interested for about a day.

So, I have been playing another game.

Maybe, someday, EA will get around to making interesting supplements with enough play value to hold my interest until the next supplement comes out. But that does not appear to be in the cards.

I discover something to fix in the game like today. It was so bad I made screen shots and a story.

Mods help the game stay interesting. These days a new mod is more effective than a new EP in extending my interest in Simming. Virtual Artisan's Downtown Roles mod started a teen mom stripper storyline that I played out for weeks.

Also Story Progression sometimes sets up really interesting game scenarios that keep me interested. Like I have a lot of teens in my game now due to a baby boom so there is a lot of teen drama going on. I have one couple that SP keeps breaking up and then putting back together and normally I wouldn't have cared about that but now I want to play out their volatile romance. I have another that SP put together as romantic interests but they are sort of cousins (his stepfather is her uncle but they share the same last name) so that could be interesting as well.

In between my regular gameplay, I also switch to Lucky Palms which I am setting up as a travel destination. I got bored with the Singing career after a day of playing as it was very repetitive and unimaginative so I just used Master Controller to move my Sim from Level 6 to Level 10 and set up steady gigs for her at big venue. I have a lounge singer and a Derren Brown-like magician, playing at the casino, a Sim who I gave top DJing skills who hangs around Diamondbacks and turned the abandoned motel into a base camp. I'm currently looking for glitzy apartment to download that I can turn into a "hotel" with a rooftop bar and swimming pool.

It depends on how bored I am of the game. If I'm really bored of it (normally like right before a new EP comes out and I'm so excited for it that the game now doesn't do enough for me) then I just stop playing and do other things. But if I'm only a little bored, then I make a new game with a new household based on characters from things I like, like Lara Croft. Then I play the household as true to the characters as possible (like in my Lara Croft game, I had her almost constantly adventuring and tomb raiding and all those things). Or I make a family and test out all the things I haven't really had a chance to do (like I had a family that focused on raising horses and training and breeding them, since normally I don't have horses in my games).

If I am only a little bored, I go and create new Sims to play, or I revamp my town and build a bunch of lots and houses. Like right now, I am working on building a campground to put in my town. It will essentially function like a park, except that Sims can sleep there. :)
If I ever get really bored, I just play Neverwinter Nights 2 for a while. Or I'll take a break from games altogether and find something more productive to do. Lord knows it's easy to leave my to-do list unchecked once I've started playing TS3!
Tho I have to agree that adding mods to your game will help quite a bit in eliminating the boredom. Ever since I discovered Twallan's Story Progression and Woohooer mods, I don't tend to have that problem anymore. They certainly keep the game interesting!! :heyhey:

After returning to the game, when I get bored I just allow the game to run on its own (wolfing run), wait for the next generation to grow into teens, and choose one to play. I should add that my sims have relatively short lives and I use Twallan's Story Progression to keep things running smoothly and track children.

Try to weed out unused custom content through the launcher. I especially look forward to the part of switching the .dbc files in out out of the DCCache folder, as the launcher won't display all the damned content I've packed away (I'm back up to 33 files, plus 3 .ebc files of store crap; I really am ill). A few hours of that, and the most predictable, boring game seems like a joyous new discovery.

When I get tired of playing Sims, I get inspiration by looking at the Let's Plays on Youtube. It makes me usually a very inspired and gives me new ideas. I can also be messing with my own object creations for the game and/or looking onwhat other creators have done.
I can also play other games like Spore, Grand Ages Rome or Tropico 4

I never got bored with The Sims and Sims 2, but I'm very bored of S3. I've been playing Skyrim a lot, but I'm bored of that now. Every time I go into S3 to play, tho', I set up a household, build the house, make sims and once I move them in, I get so aggravated with what dull creatures they are, I just quit. I'm hoping something will come along to pique my interest in S3, but I think it's the dull and boring interactions between the sims that I can't stand. Because everything else is beautiful but there's nothing unexpected or fun that ever happens with the pixel dollies.

Hey yeah, I totally use the MtS forums as foreplay when I'm in a sims 3 rut or just to hype myself up before game time. Did the same thing with sims 2. Works every time! In fact... I think I'm ready right now. Sims boner's a go!

I went on a 60x60 plot, and built a terraced palace, filled with hot tubs and a massive swimming pool and fountains.

Created a 50x50 base, then had short stairs go all round, then added a 40 x 40 floor, and then had stairs go all round that. Then created a 30 x 30 floor and had stairs go up that floor and then finally a 20 x 20 floor at the top. I then linked all floors with an internal lift.

On the front I placed a transparent pool on the second floor, so you could see them swimming. The Third floor was a bedroom filled with beds. The top floor was the Master bedroom. I then filled the second floor with essentials, Kitchen, toilets, and guest lounge. The first floor I added catacombs, to get to the computer room, fitness room and hobby rooms.

Total cost $700,000+

Looked spectacular, but was not really much fun to play in.

I have to say, kudos to the modding community-- and occasionally even EA, they make it very challenging for me to stay bored for too long.

Vector + Waltzing Mod (still beta) + edible deli foods + college majors + Wedding Event Planner career = well-to-do doctor on third wife (event planner who likes to throw parties) with two college age children and a teen girl (give me time to arrange her wedding). I might find a use for EA's chocolate thingie after all.

When I'm feeling bored with the game, I can usually come up with an idea easily of what I can do next.

If I still feel like playing the game, I tend to think first of features I haven't used yet. Maybe something I haven't been keen on, like having my sim become a doctor. I like new activites that create a lot of wishes and moodlets, I think moodlet icons look pretty for some reason. I try to come
up with more ideas from expansion packs because I don't like to waste money on something I'm not going to use. Hmm... I might dip my finger into a bit of potography... (See?)

My next decision would be to roam the Sims 3 store for free goodies. If the store isn't your thing, (I know it isn't a lot of people's thing ;) ) then you could always surf MTS for new downloads. Maybe you could try researching new custom contet websites too. I use to love PeggySims.

As some other people said, you could try playing in a new gamemode, maybe building, developing a new custom world, or maybe actually playing in live mode. (If that's new to you, of course.)

If nothing above sparks my interest, then I slowly hop into a new game or one of my old favourites.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I'm bored I add custom music to my game, so when I'm playing I'm listening to music too. The only thing that irritates me though is when a sim changes the "station" from custom music and I have to switch back to my music. I also take challenges, like having a lot of babies. That keeps me occupied for at least an hour and while I'm bored waiting for them to hit next life cycle, I adopt more kids to focus on.

I create a totally gross character and have him 'befriend' a local family. He visits EVERY day, ALL day and cooks non stop in their kitchen filling it with waffles, autumn salad and gloopy carbonara .. ooh and hot beverage trays, microwave meals, hot dogs, tofu dogs ... Soon the kitchen overflows and he has to drop plates of food on the dining room floor, table and where ever he can find a space. He is never asked to leave, they get cross at him (he takes sponge baths in their kitchen sinks) *when* he feels like it, but mostly he stinks and cooks ... endlessly .. They never seem to throw him out, except for like when its about 3am .. but by 6am he's ready to go back to cook for his friends!
