I know there is a whole help thing on all of this but i cant for the life of me figure it out. I played sims 2, was easy enough using the "file maid" and starting the game no problem.
I Downloaded a rar/zip file extractor different from the ones listed, but it seems to work. From what i understood I put package files into "games/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/packages"? I noticed,

that it comes with 3 types of files, one being just an image file but the other 2 are .package, and .BAK what do i do with the other file, the .BAK?
I tried to just wing it and shove it all in the packages folder and well, obviously didnt work.
But from what im reading its a chore to download lol. I'd appreciate the help, ive spent like 2 hrs reading all the help files before i came here and. What i got from it was extract, extract to correct folder (which is not specific enough for me it seems) then it should work. Also when extracting do the actual zip/rar/ect folders NEED to be saved, or can i just hit open then extract?
