View Full Version : Why can't EA give us more clothing options?

I'm a simple chick with simple tastes...
All I want is some adult male clothing (could also be male child, teen, and elder) which looks like stuff real guys might wear to work and stuff. You know, long sleeved dress shirts with the sleeves worn down to the wrists and tucked in at the waist. Or a long-sleeved dress shirt with a vest, where the hem of the shirt is tucked IN and the sleeves are rolled down.
Instead, we get all sorts of variations on things like vest with shirt sleeves rolled up or short shirt sleeves, as in this collection of pictures.
Please note: this is not a request thread; though I wouldn't mind if some creator took pity on me and created what I'm looking for... I just wish EA would do it.
Now for the pics:

These are the closest to what I want, but the first is Victorian, not modern; the second is sleeves rolled up:

I just wish there were more clothing options which were more dressy than casual. Is that so wrong?
What would you like to see in clothing styles from EA?

there is a nice shirt and Jacket combo on the store (I forget which set) that has the top button undone. Very casual, great for work, no tie, so it can also be worn out, i'll try and find it.
EDIT: found it it's the The Undone Gentleman (http://store.thesims3.com/productDetail.html?productId=OFB-SIM3:38569&categoryId=&scategoryId=11681&pcategoryId=&ppcategoryId=&gender=female&startAt=15)

There is this issue with our culture, where both men and women (generally speaking) are much more interested in what women look like than what men look like :/
Having said that, you're at Mod the Sims, so why worry about what EA creates? ;) Try the WCIF forum (under Help) for recommendations for downloads for menswear, if you can't find what you're looking for here.
And if you can't find what you want ANYWHERE... time to learn to mod ;) You'll find tutorials in the Create menu!
Good luck!

I wish I could learn to create. It would be awesome. But I have to agree, the selection for male clothes are not as expansive as they are with women and I think it is because more people are focused on women's looks than men. The lack of full body outfits that aren't for jobs or don't look ridiculous for males is a joke. Same goes for teens, even teen females, especially formal clothes and we all know how a lot of teen girls irl are lol

So female sims are more important than male sims? And they should walk about town looking ridiculous? Okay, thanks EA. :|

And BTW, when it somes to clothing conventions, a shirt worn without a jacket is always considered casual. It's a big no-no for every gentleman to leave the house with nothing but a shirt, they might as well then untuck it and roll up their sleeves because nothing can correct this faux-pas.
But I understand what you mean.

I agree that EA have pretty awful taste in clothes. But my main problem is not adult males as much as elder and teen males. Finding different clothes for them is particularly difficult. I have been trying to play a medieval town, and I managed to find a couple of outfits for adult males, one for teens, one for boys, but none whatsoever for elder males. I call this ageist!

Uhm, am I the only one that finds it a bit nitpicky that with 14+ vest/shirt combos in the store alone, not even counting CC, you can't find one that meets your standards?
I mean, EA can't be perfect, and they can't make every freaking combination of vest+shirt in existence. There will be some that don't exist. Oh well. Resort to CC or deal with it.
If you've already got a dude walking around in a vest and shirt, he's already in informal mode, so who cares if his sleeves are rolled up? (also I must be the only one who's never seen some random dude decide to wear a button-down vest as normal wear).
Now personally, I'd like to see some culturally different clothing. I don't mean glorified costumes like we have now with the full kimono and stuff. But even modern casual clothing norms varies from country to country. It feels weird for all my sims -- white, black, asian, whatever -- to all be dressed like Anglo-Saxon Protestants from upstate New York. But right now the only alternative is something costumey like full cowboy regalia. EA does not understand the concept of subtlety, that's for sure.

As far as I'm concerned, all women could wear nothing but burlap sacks as long as the men look hawt.

I'd also like to see some nice punk/goth/emo outfits for guys that don't look so ridiculous with spikes and chains in unnecessary spots, but unfortunately I can't find even CC without that.
And honestly, I don't think I've ever seen a guy wear a button down vest as normal wear either. I've seen celebrities do it, but that's usually when they're going to some event like an awards show where they're dressing either semi formal or something a little more of a between semi formal/casual event, if that makes any sense.

This was a fashion trend in the 80s, and quite a lot of Sim fashion looks as if their designers were teenagers back then and have carried their past over to the 2010s ;)

Personally, I think it's quite true to RL. Don't ya know, men hate clothes and shopping and don't care about that sort of thing at all and are more than happy to wear the same questionable thing over and over? Gosh.

You see, this is why I let my Sim men go shirtless.
Giggity.

A lot of the stuff packs have some decent stuff. Don't get diesel stuff though, the clothing in there was pretty hideous in my opinion. But the store stuff for guys is really disappointing. I find myself using clothing from Late Night/Supernatural and some of the stuff packs for guys.
I took some screenshots of some clothes that kind of match the description of what you want from the game. I didn't find many that were tucked in, but I found several long-sleeved shirts that could pass as professional. These are all from the store, but I'm not sure what they are called:

These two are from the diesel stuff pack, if you're willing to drop 20 bucks for the most hideous clothing and furniture known to man for the sake of two shirts:

And this is exactly it, I'm stunned! Don't they go to the mall, don't they shop? I'm guessing all the male developers at Redwood wear vests but what about the woman, are there no fashionably inclined woman over there? I wish they'd lay off the Wal-Mart/Sears type of styles for men and focus on trendy and modern (slim/fitted). Teenagers are the WORST! Look at all the teen dramas and they're always in (guys and girls) clothes that fit the styles going. So why exclude teens!! Is EAxis living under a rock???

The one on the Top Right is The Undone Gentleman. I like it, it works great with jeans for a casual look.
But one thing people have to remember is, Male fashions tend to change very little season to season. A lapel that changes 1/3 of an inch is considered a major change. It's why women get tons of hair and clothes options, and men get the shaft.

Maybe EA was listening to me instead. My favorite clothing options for men always seem to be the vests/jackets with vests.
But I can understand wanting more. :)

But... the 80's are in fashion again now! Haven't you noticed the fluro clothes, jean jackets, high waisted pants, nike high-tops and scrunchies? So I think the Sims teams is accidentally keeping up with the retro-modern fashion trend (keyword being accidentally).

So why is there no Chess King in my local mall. (Not that I want that back, just asking.)

When I saw the first signs in the UK in 1996/7 I thought that this was actually good news for many people back home who were STILL wearing that stuff. But I guess that's what you mean by "accidentally".
