This tutorial is outdated - Updated version is HERE (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=277555)
---This Tutorial is Written for the cereal Only---
It is a basic Tutorial to start you off with learning how to
Create/Recolour the cereal, it will not work on other foods!
-------------------------------------------------------------
Open SimPe - click the "plugins tab"
then click "object workshop" .. Wait for it to load...
When it finaly loads ....
make sure you click "clone" NOT colour options
then click "object listings" .. wait till it loads ..Yada Yada
Type in Cereal then remove the Asterisk * where the little blue arrow is then uncheck "remove useless files" & check "load parent data" exactly as shown in pic
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/2ceb45b9.jpg
Click start:
at this point you should see a new pic appear
In "ModelName' type In a new name like shown
always put in a - (Hyphen) right after your name (Example) fireflies-tutorial
leaving no spaces
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/6ac650a2.jpg
click ok
Then give your .package a new name in the next window
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/265e360f.jpg
Click save:
In the next window click on “Texture Image” & extract all the pics you will re-colour by right clicking on the pic and choosing "export'
For Cereal it is usually the first and third line, the arrows show them.
"do not change the name when exporting" that way you can find them easier.
use whatever paint editor you are used to and then save in "PNG format Non interlaced"
then right click on the pic in SimPe and choose "import' Right Click again on the pic & choose “update all sizes"
then click Commit. do this with every pic you will change.
When done click File & Save
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/7f7affd4.jpg
Next go to "Text Lists" click on instance 0x00000088 and change foodprepcereal_food
to this ##0x1C050000!fireflies-count_chocula04-03-05__foodprepcereal_food
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/b6ce5d02.jpg
"Click change in all" then click "Enable all languages"
then click commit and save.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/03f0f88e.jpg
Now while still in "text lists" click instance line 0x0000012E and change the text
that says "Cereal" to "Count Chocula" no quotes, or however you want the name to look?
click "Change in all" then click enable all languages
Repeat for each and every line that says Cereal, i marked them off for you
When done click Commit and Save.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/49c65633.jpg
Next go to "Shape' click on ObjectGraphNode and click on each instance
until you find the text line with
fireflies-count_chocula040305__foodtraycereal_root_rot_shpe
now on the very bottom you will see a blank text box called "Filename'
add this line to it ##0x1c050000!fireflies-count_chocula040305__foodtraycereal
Click Commit and save.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/e09a0ee5.jpg
Now on to "Catalog Description' change the name "Cereal" to "Count"Chocula" no Quotes, or however you want the name to look in the Fridge Options?
Click “Change in all” then click “Enable all Languages”
And finaly Click Commit and Save.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/8f396e46.jpg
Now onto "Object Data" click the first instance line then Change the text for only "Cereal" to Count Chocula so it looks like Food - Count Chocula - Menu then get your Unique Guid then click Commit ...
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/4ee46932.jpg
Once done Copy-n-Paste your unique guid down in notepad/wordpad because we are going to use it again.
Now click the second Instance line (because we need two unique guid's)
then Change the text for only "Cereal" again so it looks like
Food - Count Chocula
get your second guid "click Commit and Save
now write down your second guid in your notepad/wordpad.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/8d964605.jpg
Now go to "Behavior Function" click Instance 0x00001000 it will open up a long box pointing to a red X Click the Box, this will open the OpCodes now where it says "Operands" SEE the first four numbers? Reverse Your Guid and put your first Guid in it! "like so"
Your Guid --> EL 99 LL 67
Make it Reversed ---> 67 LL 99 EL
DO NOT TOUCH ANY OF THE OTHER NUMBERS OR YOUR PACKAGE IS TOAST! Only the first four Boxes I HAVE CIRCLED THEM FOR YOU!
"Click Commit'
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/003df0ac.jpg
Now do the same thing on Instance 0x00001004 using your second Guid
“this is an EXAMPLE” Guid EL 99 LL 68
Make it Reversed ---> 68 LL 99 EL
Now comes the fun part... open up the sims2 and lests see if it works?
If it doesn’t seem to work and your sim is just standing at the fridge then Reverse
67 and 68 in the instance codes
Do not try this same reference on another food since Each Food item is Different it most likely will not work!!
I am not responsible for anyone who tries this and messes up their game blows up their machine or pulls out all their hair trying this Tutorial...
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y130/fireflies1230/0b66d2ca.jpg
Please Thank Exor674 for all she has done and accomplished
Without her none of the foods created today would be possible.
Please dont ask me how to do other foods
More tutorials will follow soon!

Wow, great tutorial, but just a couple of things.
First, on the first screenshot, the "Load Parent Data" isn't on my version of SimPE (I'm using the latest build, so it's likely been changed.) In it's place is "create a stand alone object" is this the same function?
I was able to follow your tutorial for the most part, but I can't seem to get the cereal to show up in the bowl as they are filling it/pouring the milk. It does show up when the tray dissappears however, and they eat it normally. Not sure what I missed!
I'd like to get this fixed so I can upload my creation, Quisp cereal!
Thanks. :D

Sorry have not been around for a while, real life called on me!..
First - "create a stand alone object" is fine to use since the change it affects are no different to "Load Parent Data" as far as i can tell.
Second - did you make sure everything was changed needing this number ##0x1c050000!
or that the same number was applied to this?
##0x1c050000!srgilbert-Quisp_cereal__foodtraycereal
it has been a while since i really got into moding the game so i need to refresh myself and maybe this tut but i am sure if you go back and look a few times you may find the answer.

Where it says
In the next window click on “Texture Image” & extract all the pics you will re-colour by right clicking on the pic and choosing "export'
For Cereal it is usually the first and third line, the arrows show them.
"do not change the name when exporting" that way you can find them easier.
What is color=purple and color=blue and where are they? also can you just open the pics in a program and paste a picture on top of the ones allready there? :!!: :!!: :!!: :!!: :!!:

Hello everyone,
I've been trying my hand at this cereal tutorial for the past week with disappointing results. Sadly, each time I come up with the same problem -- the fridge changes colours when I click on it to choose my breakfast cereal and my Sim simply stands at the fridge. The version of SimPE I am using is the current one with the 4.0 version of CEP. I'm wondering if my errors have anything to do with the subtle differences between the old SimPE used in the tutorial and the current version?
For example I noticed that the importing is a bit different(different options are available and I'm not sure which ones to 'tick' on or off) and the appearance of the names are also different.
In the tutorial this line is shown as this:
__foodprepcereal_food
but in the new SimPE the line is shown with a hyphen at the beginning like this:
-foodprepcereal_food
The step where we go to "Text Lists" click on instance 0x00000088 to input the ##0x1C050000! string - well that seems to already be done for us. Another thing is that the “Change in all” and “Enable all Languages” features are not readily available. Does this also affect my cereal recolour not appearing correctly? Ever since reading this tutorial and seeing all of the food meshes/recolours available for download; a yearning desire to create my own food creations to share have stirred within me. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone would lend me a guiding hand.

I'm not sure about the other things you asked, but the last part about enabling languages, that is only for the catalog description text, it doesn't affect the functionality of the object. With newer SimPE, just make sure that the "default lang only" option is selected (if it's already selected, it's not clickable anymore, and if it's clickable, click it once to select). That will make the same description for all language versions of the game.
Pirotessa Naria
16th Mar 2006, 11:57 PM
Thank you for replying IgnorantBliss I really appreciate your help. I'm glad that the enabling languages doesn't affect the object itself. One less worry to think about when I am recolouring the cereal. I'll make sure that the 'default lang only' option is selected and then left alone in my next attempt.
My main confusion lies with both the underscore/hyphen difference(whether or not this actually affects the recolour) and also why the fridge would change colour as if I had gone into "Design Mode" and clicked on another colour to change it when I had only selected for my Sim to go to the fridge and make the breakfast cereal?

Thank you sooooooooooooo much! But one mistake:
Now on to "Catalog Description' change the name "Cereal" to "Count"Chocula" no Quotes, or however you want the name to look in the Fridge Options?
The catalog description thing is the name of the object when you pick it up. If you havbe NL of OFB it will show up in your inventory and you will have to make a description, too.

You have to get a new guid for the Object Data (OBJD) and then Reverse the numbers for the Behaiour Functions (BHAV) in the first four boxes
once you change them (Reverse them) it allows the file to run as it would if it were a maxis creation

I have been trying to make a cake with this tutorial...instead of cereal and everything goes great until its time for the cake to come out of the oven....the sim just leaves the cake to burn :( I am assuming I need to edit another bhav...but well..im clueless as to which one.
Also just in case a really smart person replies to this lol...i know that in order to change the plate so that it is custom for that food only, i need to assign a guid....but since there are only 2 instances in object data for the cake...Im not sure where to get the guid from or where to assign it to for that matter....any help would be greatly appreciated :)

If you're going to make a custom plate for your new food make sure to assign that new plate mesh a new guid altogether to tie it to your custom food. With that new plate guid you are going to go back into the new food package to the BHAVs again but to find "CT Factory Dish". In the behavior editor where it says 0:[prim] create new object instance -- that's where you reverse the custom plate guid and put in the reversed numbers just like Fireflies tutorial mentions:
Example: 0x0022ADBB - new guid
In the bhav editor: BB AD 22 00
Commit file changes and save.
******
When you're importing new textures to your new food? I recommend using the Build DXT tools. It will keep your textures in the highest quality.
Right-click on the texture, choose Build DXT, swap in your picture and where it says 'sharpen' put 'none' in the dropdown menu box. Then click 'build' and when its done don't forget to commit file changes and then save.

I've downloaded a number of custom foods that don't have the "Call to Meal" option available (the menu option that was introduced with OFB). This drives me crazy as I find it's so much easier not to have to summon each individual Sim to a meal. Is there a way to enable the "Call to Meal" option, and if so, how? I would appreciate any advice you can give.

Nesta: Can you send me your cereal package? I'll take a look at it and see if I can help you out with it.
Karenh3: The reason why the "Call to Meal" option isn't available on those custom foods is mostly likely because the creator made them base game compatible. The only way that I know of is to re-clone the custom food by not making it base game compatible. It would be best though to simply ask the creator to make a second version available with the OFB functions.
Simkiller14: This tutorial was written for an old version of SimPE but the method is similar and can be applied to the newer SimPE's available.

By the way, considering this tutorial is a bit out of date I am more than happy to create one that applies to the new SimPE. Would anyone be interested in that and how would I go about posting one here?

RoeyTwins, how texture is applied to mesh is stored in the mesh, it's not that SimPE is copying textures wherever it wants to :)
To change it, you have to alter the mesh - more particularly, its UVW Map. Check tutorials about UVW Mapping in Object Meshing&Recoloring Tutorials (http://www.modthesims2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=248).

hello! can i just add my request to the others, on the subject of an updated or 'general food' tutorial?
i'm also at a loss for how to start this tut, seeing as i can't use the windowed object workshop. i have no idea where to look for the food files, so without a bit of gentle direction i'm pretty much stuck at square one.
[UPDATE]
being impatient, i decided to try cloning or recolouring another person's custom food (i chose a soupbowl type), but i'm experiencing a rather odd problem.
upon either cloning or recolouring the object, the workshop simply says 'object created', but doesn't open it up... i can't seem to locate it to edit. it's never done this to me before, so i'm assuming i've made some kind of booboo. any idea what it is? lol

There's a newer tutorial by pacotaplayer, it this one looks too old for you. Windowed workshop is obsolete, you should use tabbed one - there's no significant difference in their appearance. Food is under Unknown.
It's totally useless to choose Recolor for food files - you must use Clone option, even if you just want to recolor a food.
If you chose Clone, resources should've been extracted. If they are not - which food you were cloned, which addons you have and which are checked in SimPE Preferences?

Seems to be that you changed textures and GUIDs (in bhavs as well) only? Or did you altered any GMDC?
If it crashes halfway during preparation, then it's likely some problem with either preparation GMDCs, or animations.
It's a bit confusing that you extracted animations into your package - unless you plan to edit them, it's a bad idea, because they use the global group 0x1C0532FA, so there's higher chance of conflicts. Use Maxis ones - just put their names into STR# with instance 0x86.
I'm not certain whether including animations can harm your food, but I never included them to food and had no crashing problems :-|
If you touched GMDCs, then which programs did you use? foodprepcereal_root_trans_gmdc has morphs, you have to be careful with those.

did i miss a step or something? or is it just me?
2. the regular cereal option has disappeared from my breakfast menu.
TIA for all the help.
I know this is super old, but I just came across it and tried it today. The first time my sims got stuck staring at the fridge. I looked in My Documents>EA Games>TheSims2>Logs at the Error message, but wasn't sure what to make of it. Soo, I tried it all over and this time it works, but I have the same problem as above. The textures only work close up, but not from further away. Any ideas??

The first time my sims got stuck staring at the fridge.First of all, to avoid 'stuck' situations, turn on the TestingCheatsEnabled cheat (boolprop testingcheatsenabled true, you can put it to userstartup.cheat to not type it all the time) - it's a must have when you need to alter bhavs. With it, you'll get Cancel-Reset-Delete message, and Reset or Delete will likely resume the game (it may delete your sim if he is the culprit, so don't test on lots where you actually play).
Then, while it's not certain without error log - if your sims are stuck before taking any food from fridge, then it's likely that you messed up while putting guids to bhavs. Without log, it's hard to tell for sure.

Thanks for replying!!
Well, I scrapped the first one. (I did have the cheat on and would get the Cancel/Reset/Delete message). But with the second one that I tried, the main problem is that when i zoom in really close, it's Cheerios, but when I pull back some, its the original. Something is causing the texture to only work within certain proximity? The only other thing is that it says Have Breakfast>Cereal (I changed all of the TXT to Cheerios but it doesnt show up like that in have breakfast). In Make One or Make Many it does say Cheerios. I don't care about it saying cereal instead, but I don't know if that is a clue about the other part or not.
I can show you my Error Log or try to upload it if that helps (but I'm at work so I'll have to do it when I get home).

Sounds like you forgot to update mipmaps. You can read explanation of what they are in this InfoCenter thread (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=86151).
To update mipmaps, you can either use UpdateAllSizes (not best choice) or install nVidia DDS utilities and build mipmaps via Build DXT - more about installing and using utilities in basic recolor tutorial (http://modthesims2.com/showpost.php?p=839030&postcount=1).
It's not a food-specific problem :)

I came to update you that I found the problem before I knew you replied ;)
I figured out the UpdateAllSizes option, so the zoom in/out thing is fixed. I have it working perfectly now (and I downloaded DDS utilities for the future).
My only other question is about the fridge menu. It took away my original Cereal and replaced it with the Cheerios I made. So, I made a new cereal to see if it would write over the Cheerios. It did. So, I was wondering if it's possible to make "Cereal..." a catagory and then make other cereal names as sub catagories so that I can make any from the list at a particular time?
Thanks again for your help :)

It's possible, of couse - add extra slash for submenu building. For example, HaveDinner string would have to be 'Have Dinner.../Cereal.../Cheerios' ('...' is not required, it's just to look like Maxis menus).
Test Make/MakeMany menus separately, though - AFAIK they are built using string in CTSS, so you should try to change it accordingly, not certain if it will work.

Hmm, I tried that and the menus do look different now. However, the second cereal is still overwriting the first one. I'm ok with just having one kind of cereal, but I'm looking into making different kinds of foods, and I hope this won't be a problem for other choices. I'm sure there is some way to fix this.

the second cereal is still overwriting the first oneYou hadn't forgotten to give yours new guid? Both cereal and its menu must have new guids, and you need to update two bhavs with them.

-------
By the way, considering this tutorial is a bit out of date I am more than happy to create one that applies to the new SimPE. Would anyone be interested in that and how would I go about posting one here? Please do post one, I've been looking for an up to date tutorial for weeks :)
