You need to describe the situation fully. Did you have to reinstall your entire system? If not, did you have to reinstall anything else besides the game? If you just reinstalled the game, why did you do this? Was there a problem with the game originally? Did you change any parts of your computer? If so, what did you change? What OS are you running? Is the game legit? What exactly does it say in that dialogue box?
Please give as much info as you are able, so your problem can be addressed.

I reinstalled just the game, because it was running slowly, probablly caused by my habit of downloading hacks. No i didn't change any parts of my computer, I'm running Windows 98, and i don't know what legit means.

i don't know what legit means. I was just asking if the game was a dubbed copy, or store bought. Still need to know what exactly is in the dialogue box though.

Try reinstalling your graphic adapter, also make sure that you have direct9X installed. Legit means legal. Is it a copied version or did you buy it from the store.

When you uninstalled the game, did you uninstall anything else or did you just drag it to the trash can?

Ok, you said it ran but slow. What kind of adapter do you have. IF you have the CD to your graphic adapter reinstall it. That should do the trick and also the DirectX 9.0 . OH and sometimes you just need to remove spyware and cookies from your pc, also Scandisc and refrag. often. :)

How many Graphic adapters do you have on the one pc
You might have to go and enable it.

Right Click on My computer then properties, then device manager, look under display adapters and see if the adapter is listed. If it is and there is a yellow mark on it ,Or a red X it has a problem. You need to click on it and then go to properties and enable it .

Few quick questions
1. what graphics adapter do you have.
2 How fast is you computer.
3 How much mem.
Pyroclasm
26th Apr 2005, 11:57 PM
Also, if you reinstalled the graphics adapter before uninstalling it, then you will have two (or more) copies, which will cause problems. In Win98 you have to boot to safe mode, remove your graphics adapters, reboot, then reinstall.

After you have right click on it and go to properties, you will see disable in this hardware profile and you will also see exists in all hardware profiles. check the exist in all hardware profiles. Now I have Windows ME so yours might be set up differently.

there 3 different thns there, do you just want the first one, it says
"HP D5258A Pvillion m50 Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400"
BlueMint
27th Apr 2005, 12:12 AM
Okay I see the problem, your graphics card is a nVidia GeForce2 MX 400, and that means you have a bad graphics card, it doesn't support shading which can cause trouble with The Sims 2. Try buying a new graphics card... ask your dad.

i think then that the DDR is 14.2 GB

BlueMint
27th Apr 2005, 12:16 AM
Here's what I want you to do, press "Start", select "Settings", select "Control Panel", and select "System". Now tell me everything it says, except where it says "Registered To:".

If you have right clicked on my computer, properties, divice manager then display adapters, it will tell you what adapters you have. You will need one of these to run the SIms 2, You said that you where already running it so that means you must have a playable adapter. Just make sure you have inabled it also, you would have to had uninstalled it and then reinstalled it to make it work right, Did you uninstall the sims2 form the add and remove or did you just delete it. Makes a differece.

...and unless you are in safe mode, it will NOT display all the adapters on the comp. It is very important that only one be listed in safe mode. If your dad is more saavy with computers, you might have him look at this thread.

Good, you didn't post the numbers, those were private. ;) Your computer seems fine, have you updated your computer lately? Go to www.windowsupdate.com.

From those specs, it looks as though your machine is well below the minimum requirements for running the Sims 2. It is probably the reason it was slow in the first place.

ok, you need to remove the extras (only if in safe mod) and then reboot. Then you can reinstall the proper adapter.

It worked, but you said it was slow. That's what would happen if it's under spec. Good luck in fixing the problem.
