Sims 3 package viewer

This post has been edited to prevent confusion. The s3pi (Sims 3 Pakage Interface) library and demo viewer is at

Ooh! Fancy!

Hunter240x 17th May 2009 8:03 PM

Inge, assuming you can sign in (cause I haven't been able to for some reason even though it appears others have) it appears that you can download some objects ect now from the new TS3 website. That way you can see if the package viewer works or not. http://llnw.thesims3.com/exchange/objects

Inge Jones 17th May 2009 8:19 PM

It tries to bring up the login popup but fails with page not found. If someone would like to send me an object that might be easiest

Hunter240x 17th May 2009 8:22 PM

yeah, same here... but you have to sign in to post movies and several people have already posted movies on the site using clips provided by EA. So obviously people can or atleast could've signed in. Some of the objects etc. do have a download count so people have downloaded them. Maybe someone will see this and send them to you.

EDIT 4:45 p.m. - and now the site can't even be accessed to view anything. It asks for a password right away.

Sounds good. Is this program like SimPe?

Ghost sdoj 23rd May 2009 9:41 PM

No. It is going to be a base library of utilities that modders can use to make front-end tools. SimPe loads the tools to recolor, edit sims, edit meshes, and everything else even if all you want to do is change the way an object works. The sims 3 version will let you just download and use what you need and ignore the rest, although you will need the main S3PI files for anything built with them.

Hunter240x 23rd May 2009 11:20 PM

Ghost, I know you probably said that as much in basic terms as possible but I still have no idea what you mean. Do you mean it will all be seperate tools instead of an "all-in-one" tool like SimPE?

Inge Jones 24th May 2009 10:46 AM

Rather than just Quaxi and SimPE this time, there are *several* people making tools. Peter and I are focussing on a library of functions that other toolmakers can use if they choose to. Those functions can be used in all-in-one tools like SimPE or specialised small tools for individual tasks.

Other toolmakers who are not using our library may be making large or smaller tools, I don't know.

Tashiketh 25th May 2009 10:11 AM

I, for one, much prefer smaller tools that do one - or a few - things very very well, and aren't as resource hungry as SimPE became.

J. M. Pescado 25th May 2009 11:22 AM

I don't think the Monolith Tool is going to return in TS3. We seem to be fragmenting into many small tools already, and the structure of the game is such that there are a lot of existing general-purpose tools that do the job better than any tool someone could assemble specifically for TS3.

Karybdis 28th May 2009 7:37 AM

I agree. I imagine there will be minimum of 6 or 7 shortly after release.

ihammad 31st May 2009 12:19 AM

I have the game, Sims 3 I bought overseas. It is really great. I just cant wait to download customs for skin, hair, clothes, and sims.

porkypine 1st Jun 2009 10:29 PM

You got it before the June 2nd release? Where? If so, register it and goto the sims3 site and download one of the objects and take a look at the package, come back to discuss your findings so we can get working on the mod tools.

islandboy502 2nd Jun 2009 12:00 AM

I just hope modders like Warlokk and his wonderful skins can be adapted for sims3. Hate that insimanator went away.

Stillie418 2nd Jun 2009 8:26 PM

File to test from Sims3 site

I just download a few custom items there. If you would like one to test send me an email at [email protected] and I will send it to you

brat1083 3rd Jun 2009 5:49 AM

Insimanator is here http://www.insimenator.org/index.php

Inge Jones 3rd Jun 2009 8:04 AM

If anyone has downloaded the s3pi library and demo viewer, please remember to keep checking for updates at Sims3Tools! Vital fixes are being made all the time. Last release was as recently as yesterday.

I'm probably the only one here thats all for a 'monolith' editor as opposed to several niche tools. But sometimes in the course of setting up a story arc you have to cross many different aspects of the game, and flipping back an forth between tools screams less joy to me than one (albeit vastly complex) interface.

porkypine 4th Jun 2009 1:26 AM

Having worked with SimPE a lot in creating a variety of objects, I think I'd prefer a smaller tool that does the task I need at that time. SimPE is a memory hog.

AdidasSG2 19th Jun 2009 8:14 PM

This looks like a great place to start again with the BHAV's for TS3!! :} Thanx for the heads up on this tool!

Inge Jones 20th Jun 2009 9:43 AM

Lol - there are no BHAVs in TS3, the technology is completely different. Looks like Edith finally retired

ella10004 15th Jan 2010 4:22 PM

This isn't working...The link is broken, I think.

twallan 15th Jan 2010 5:35 PM
