Building foundations/walls near the lot border? *YES, with LotAdjuster*
EDIT by Numenor: Read about a workaround (involving the use of the LotExpander) from post #16.
------------------------------------ Hello. I can't get walls or foundations built along a 2 square wide parimeter around any of my properties. My intention was to build townhouses, with one house per lot (instead of several little houses on a large lot), and have them all link together. Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you in advance for your help, TJ |
Welcome to the club -
As far as I know, this limit can't be overridden. If anyone knows how to do that, I'd be very glad to know (mostly because I love micro-lots 1x1, and the 2-tile limit makes very hard to use them). |
Shouldn't this topic be stickied? I'm getting all excited every time someone posts about it, only to discover it's the same old question again ... ?
|
If you confirm that there is no way to do that, I'll stick this thread.
EDIT: Thread stuck & title modified - Plasticbox and all experienced builders: please LET ME KNOW if this 2-tile limit becomes overridable, so that I can change this thread. |

it might not be possible with walls. But i like this method in the screenshot, the greenhouse walls give a good effect. I think

Numenor,
I've been following the "developments" (or rather, non-developments) on this subject for 2 years now -- I've been wanting to build rowhouses since the base game -- and I have never seen anyone saying anything but "not possible". And if *you* don't know of a way to get around that limit, it's pretty much officially impossible I'd say (and if seamless houses ever become an option, you can be sure you'll hear my screams of joy all over the internet =). However, there's two things I know that come close to it: * It's apparently/allegedly possible to put a few lots directly next to each other and then expand each one with the Lot Expander so that they overlap, and then build regular walls 2 tiles into the "next lot" which is actually the same lot; I think Inge mentioned recently that she's done this (if I ever get around to installing this .net thing I'll try it as well -- although this kind of lot would not be redistributable except in a neighbourhood); Edited to add: I've tested this in the meantime and the flickering where the lots overlap is unbearable in-game. Not recommended. On the bright side, there's a much better solution by now: see this post. * there are fake walls that can be used to create an illusion of seamlessly adjacent houses/walls (pixelhate recently posted a link: http://www.pc-sims.com/smb/showthread.php?t=8936 -- I never tried them myself), however as I understand it they're merely decorative and don't create actual rooms -> useless for Seasons, and the light rendering looks very odd. And as mike19 pointed out, the greenhouse walls can be used until 1 tile from the lot border, not 2 like the normal walls -- interestingly, those do create actual rooms .. so at least half of the 2-tile limit can be overcome somehow. |
Thank you for all of your help.

This might be stupid but...
Can we make a custom wall starting of green houses? |
rejected.one
you could a kind of custom wall: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=245950 and some usefull stuff by numenor http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=245246 |
This is a good idea. Row houses are a great idea id be a happy man if someone could make a mod or custom greenhouse.I cant make downloads it looks to hard but i would love if Numenor or anyone else could do that.

The greenhouse fence and the fencearches can be built on the last second row linings.
And as usual, the fencearch can overlap fences and greenhouse fence but not half wall or the walls. They can't even connect to the walls and half-walls. The greenhouse fence has parameters for fenceXML file: isgreenhouse & noshadow & bearsload; half-wall has ishalfwall The parameter noshadow will disable shadow rendering for that object. The parameter bearsload will decide on if the fence support upper floor grids. Fences that support upper floor grids can't be built on the last row linings. The parameter isgreenhouse decide if the fence a greenhousefence. The parameter ishalfwall decides on if the fence a halfwall which then add the half-wall piece and wall properties to half wall fences. |
I have an Idea Why dont you create a bridge between Lots and as long as the walls are fences then they can Connect Minus the neighborhood Horable Lots Image.
|
Edit
ps. I am working on 2 lots like this connected by a bridge inpassable by game limits but good for effect
|
Yeh, indeed, just parallel fences paarallel to the road can also create an illusion of connection,
Alto custom fences can be made as walls or even a housing element, but currently most custom objects still lack of certain components to show up in the neighbourhood. Yet, this has been recently discussed somewhat moe. I'm unsure of the fence case. I'm busy on some other things. BTW, one can click the edit button to revise the post or to add contents. |
Building right up to the edge of a lot has turned out to be unsafe and result in crashes and data corruption, but: it is *indirectly possible* to build up to one tile from the lot edge, and to build perpendicular walls right up to the edge of a lot, by way of building on a larger lot first and then shrinking it with the LotAdjuster.
The LotAdjuster is available here: http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=282409 There are lots of pointers in the first post of the thread. |
Thread title modified Thanks for the efforts you put in bypassing this annoying limit!
|
Numenor, you linked to the wrong server in post #1 (db instead of www)
ETA: A "fake row house tutorial" is available here |
You can actually use a cheat to place certain items out of the grid or along the edge of the map, niol.
|
I just realized that no one has updated this sticky with the current information.
A new tool is now available which allows you to safely build walls which are perpendicular to the edge of the lot. In other words, it expands the buildable area of the lot by 1 tile near each edge. The current version of the LotAdjuster can be found here: http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=282409 plasticbox has a tutorial on how to make "Fake row houses": http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=286909 Please note: There were problems with the test version of the LotExpander with the shrinking feature, mentioned by plasticbox above. This version was never meant to be released to the general public and should not be used. The released LotAdjuster with the shrinking feature is safe. |
Thanks for the reminder, Mootilda! I'll fix my post right away .. this thread completely fell off my radar.
|
Obviously, it fell off of everyone's radar. I just noticed it today, because I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get the "building an apartment" tutorial updated with a link to my fix for the issue with uneven terrain.
|
we could make a full wall fence and a foundation fence like the bush fence in TS3.
|
Is there any way at all to do this on a Mac?
|
First, I know nothing about MACs. That said...
I understand that there is some way to install Windows on a MAC, as a secondary O/S. Alternatively, you could copy your neighborhood and lot packages over to another machine (A Windows machine in your house? A friend's Windows machine?). Run phase 1 of the shrinking process on the Windows machine, then copy the modified files back to your MAC for phase 2. Note that the Windows machine doesn't have to have the game installed. |
