This contest belongs in [- Houses -].

Welcome to the third installment of Around The Couch. Last cycle was hosted by Photo, but we decided [A while ago, actually], that it was my turn again. So, here I am. I hope you are all ready! :P
[[As a side note.. I promise I am going to be faar more organized this time around.. -blush-]]

So, in case anyone has forgotten the main premise, or is simply new to the whole thing all together...
Around The Couch is a home building/decorating contest. The twist? Your rooms must tie into a certain piece of custom content, given to you by myself, either in color, theme, texture.. You decide, but it has to look like it belongs. Up for the challenge?

1 - Just one entry per person, please.
2 - Anyone may enter, whether you have been here 3 hours or 3 years.
3 - You are -required- to use the CC provided. It is the point of the contest, and if you don't, you will be immeadiately disqualified.
4 - There is no budget, go crazy.
5 - All forum rules apply. Always.
6 - If you have some sort of issue or are hesitant about downloading any CC, please om me, instead of complaining about it here.
7 - Be polite and nice to people, please. If you don't, I shall kick you out [to put it bluntly].
8 - Your furnishings must -look- functional, but it does not matter if a sim can /actually/ maneuver its way throughout the house. Doesn't matter.
9 - No asking "Where'd you get that?!" See rule 5.
10 - Have fun... ;)

If you would like to judge, please read the following:

- Please PM me, as opposed to posting here, in thread.
- Make sure you will be online at least every other day. I do not want to wait forever for your scores.
- Make sure you have the ability to make criticsm sound polite and helpful, not harsh.

For the application round, just like both times before, you are expected to build the house you will be furnishing. You may make your house however large and elaborate you wish, but make sure it has all of the following, AT LEAST.

- 2 bedrooms (Master, Child)
- 3 bathrooms (One being the master bath, one the child's, and one a general bathroom.)
- A kitchen
- A dining room/area
- A living room
- Some sort of office

Any of those rooms can be in the same 'room'. Heck, if you wanted, you could just have one giant room. Yet.. That's gross.
The most common is most likely going to be kitchen/dining combined. :)

Go as crazy as you wish with the outside, lighting, landscaping, and furniture. You -will- be scored on this, so try and actually do.. Something.
There is no limit on lot size. Have fun. :P

Can we use house plans for creating our houses? Yeah, thats fine. :D
Considering the contest is based more on the furnishings than your ability to build a crazy weird original amazing "woah" house.

Okay, thank you!

20th Jun 2007, 3:28 AM

breena, don't worry about me being in this contest, I am not a very tough competition :P
Great entries so far everyone! :)

I decided to use a rather small house, this is easier to handle for my poor old laptop ;)
The house itself is quite modern and simple, just how I like it. As you can see, the garden is quite simple as well ... ^^

Photo: Huzzaaahhh! :D:D I cannot wait to see it. I still remember that one with the roof... Damn. :P

Cari: Uhmm.. Id prefer there to be no furnishings on the inside of the house, simply for your convenience. Ask anyone who has been in this before, the CC has a way of being very.. Bright. :D

Dangit. Ill finish later. The laptop battery is about to die (reasons not o bring it out here with only 25% battery in the first place, Greenie.)
I have all my judges, an ej would be lovely... Uhmm, excellent work you guys, ill post more.. Personalized comments in a bit. Have to charge the computer, yah know.

mumof5ferals: I seriously adore brick houses. Awesome job. And is biiiig. YAY bignesssss! :P
It took me a moment to find your cc.. xD But I did, so it's all good. Lovely landscaping, and the fishie in the pool? Wiiickeeedd.

breena: Im happy you decided to enter! Don't worry, Im sure yo'll do an awesome job. But, it -is- odd to be in a contest when you usually judge, Ill tell you that. :P

iampinkstar: Hahaha. Silly goose. Yeah dear, remember the CC. Afterall, it -is- the point of the contest. :D
I like your house though. More brick. Woot! I have faith in you. :jig:

bekpek: Hohmigosh. I love the front view. Like really love it. Its so.. Pristine. Reminds me of a house I almost lived in too... :D
Nice floorplan though as well. It flows. Its always nice when it flows.

Gerbera: You always make really nice houses. So.. crisp. Its really nice, and I am happy to see you back again. -wavewave-

Alright. Awesome entries so far you guys. It makes me happy to see them. :P

The APPLICATION round will end at 6:00 PM PST (-8 GST) on June 24, 2007.

Just so everyone knows.
And I dont know why I put the year.. Haha. You dont have an entire year to do your application, sorry. No '08 for you!

20th Jun 2007, 7:59 PM
Green~ I guess I'll ej since I wasn't added to the judges list :)

20th Jun 2007, 8:33 PM

20th Jun 2007, 8:36 PM
Hey! This contest sounds awesome! And I'm glad to be judging.
Kiki - if you really want to be a judge I can be an EJ and you can be a main judge. It's your call. I'm not all that bothered. lol

20th Jun 2007, 8:46 PM

20th Jun 2007, 9:23 PM
Alrighty. Kiki and daltonism, Ill leave it up to you two to decide what you wanna do. :)

IceAngel: Yay! I cannot wait to see your entry. ^_^ I like houses. They make me happy. :P

Alrighty. Im off for now.. Get tired of the lawn you know. Ill probably check in later tonight, and then Ill be back tomorrow.

I tried to go for a Mediterrainian feel, dunno if it worked to well, but I like it. The CC is on the balcony if you can't find it... on the walls and the fence. I dunno if I worked my theme around it well enough. Enjoy the new graphics card if you will

Hey Green, I was just wondering how many pics can be used? Cause I was going to do 2 shots for my back view so it doesn't look so diiiiiisstaaaant. If you know what I mean.

21st Jun 2007, 2:21 AM
Well, here is my entry. I might change the 2nd floor because I'm not too happy with it. I didn't realize that when I had to add the extra room (music room) because of roof problems, that I deleted the walkway to the kids room so the only entrance would be through the music room. I might not though, because its not too big of a deal. I'm not sure about my backyard either.

Oh yeah, sorry about the crappy graphics.

Front of house:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/IceAngel12891/snapshot_00000022_3385b5ae.jpg I'm not too good at the whole decorating the outside thing, lol. I usually stick to the inside.

I don't know if I like the patio. I usually use floor tiles, but I downloaded this and thought it was cute, but I don't know if I like how its not too even

I decided to take a dive into modern houses, I loved this house as soon as a set foot in it. I hope it is enough for the contest. The flower pots are hanging off the second story balcony for anyone having difficulty finding them. :)
Good luck everyone, I love all the entries.

Kiki24: Okay. You are now own as EJ. Thank you again. ^_^

emodawg: Awesomeee. I like the green color. Ive always wanted a green house. I have to settle for bright blue.. Anyway. I like the big rooms too. Spacious houses are nice. :)

Photo: Huzzah! Its nice. ^_^ I -really- like the tall trees in the front.. Hedges..? I dunno. But I like them.

mumof5ferals: Well lets see.. One birds-eye shot per floor.. Uhmm.. Lea say your MAXIMUM is 7 pictures total. 5 or 6 would be prefferred. :)

IceAngel: The pond is cool. Totally awesome. You did a good job on the outside, so hush. Its nice.. Not -too- busy. -nodnod-

ChickFlick: Holy shitake... Thats stunning. I adore it. Can i live there??? -whines- Now I cannot wait to see what you do with the inside..

Gerbera: No.. Like Photo said, I don't like eliminating people Application round.. Its kinda evil. :P

boolPropped: Woah. I didn't expect you to join. xDDDDDD Awesome house. Its small... I like small. Cozy, yah know? And it still fits the pool trend. :P

I lovve coming home to all these awesome entries you guys. I envy your talent.. -nodnod-
Still, keep em comingggg! ;)

21st Jun 2007, 11:13 PM
I might decide to enter but if i dont i will be watching. Great entries everyone.

22nd Jun 2007, 1:34 AM
We have to the June 24 to enter, right???

(We can use any CC we want + the required CC)

22nd Jun 2007, 3:06 AM
Thanks Green, I liked the pond myself! And bp, I <3 all of your houses. They are all so cute!

22nd Jun 2007, 3:15 AM
Uh-oh, BP just entered....We now have definitely a serious contest. Now I am nervous.

22nd Jun 2007, 3:29 AM
I know, right? Thats usually why I don't enter is because I don't think I am as good as some of you guys. I'm kinda nervous becuase I made the rooms kinda big, and I'm better at decorating smaller rooms. Silly me.

22nd Jun 2007, 3:36 AM
Chelsea - You are only as good as the next person. So there is really nothing to be nervous about *I should take my own advice*. As you can see, I too have made a biggish type house. Cause I like room. And I cannot make a little cozy house if my life depended on it, and the only little houses I have ever decorated is ones from contests that require you to download a little house. And as you can see I still don't have a star. Came close, but meh, not close enough.

22nd Jun 2007, 3:41 AM
Uh-oh, BP just entered....We now have definitely a serious contest. Now I am nervous.
Better bring yall game faces!

I really only know how to make small houses. Anything big intimidates me because I cant seem to get the proportions right when making a huge-esque house. But fear not, this contest is for fun and everyone has just as fair a chance to win ;)

22nd Jun 2007, 3:44 AM
Better bring yall game faces!

Just unpacking mine now......Got it!

There are some beautiful houses here. *just thought I would mention that* :)

I really only know how to make small houses. Anything big intimidates me because I cant seem to get the proportions right when making a huge-esque house. But fear not, this contest is for fun and everyone has just as fair a chance to win ;)

whatever... we're screwed

22nd Jun 2007, 6:46 AM
Now I know why I never enter these; then I can't benefit from the inspiration I will inevitably get from these. So . . . pretty . . . seriously, I'm going to save all these pictures into my computer and save them and print them out and Photoshop them and print them out and say, "Look what I drew!"

Haha . . . no, not really. Everyone, nice job. *dances around* Everyone deserves a :duck:, especially the big houses, because I can't figure out how to make the roofs pretty and the exterior un-boring. And especially the small houses for building in a compact design which ensures no Sim gets lost when you do plumbbobtoggle off. ^^

Cheers, everyone! More apps! More apps! More pretty pictures!

22nd Jun 2007, 11:21 AM
Ehehe, everyone's "Oh noes competition!!?!?11!!!" comments are amusing me. Guys, you'll all do fine, righty? Nice houses btw, everyone. I seriously cannot wait to start judging. :D

Oh, i'm bringin' mah judge face fo shizzle, yo. *puts serious face on*

Okay, enough w/ the spam. Can't wait to see if anyone else enters, loving everyone who has entered's entries, and good luck! :D

22nd Jun 2007, 2:41 PM
Okay I'll post a house but only once my brother gets off the computer. My stupid Alienware doesn't let me play Sims.

22nd Jun 2007, 3:37 PM
Wow Bp entered now this will be very interesting to watch and judge! :)

22nd Jun 2007, 6:00 PM
I'm working on a house; my entry should be up today.

22nd Jun 2007, 6:04 PM

22nd Jun 2007, 6:08 PM

:howdy: Yay! Room for me too?

22nd Jun 2007, 10:57 PM
This house is located on the side of a mountain, so there are lots of trees and very little landscaping except at the entrance.

I didn't bother with an aerial shot of the ground floor because all it contains is the garage.

23rd Jun 2007, 2:32 AM

23rd Jun 2007, 3:08 PM
I'm not really any good at the whole building/decorating deal (especially compared to the competition here), but this sounds like fun and I feel like challenging myself, so here I am.

I'm starting to think the basement might have been a mistake, but what's done is done.

Good luck to everyone.

23rd Jun 2007, 5:21 PM
Great enteries so far guys ! :)

23rd Jun 2007, 6:18 PM

24th Jun 2007, 12:43 AM
well this house was a long time coming. I had a house all laid out and finished except for the outdoors then I decided I didn't like it, it was too big, so I decided to make a smaller one. I worked on a new one for nearly two hours when my game crashed and who was the genius who forgot to save? You guessed it, it was me. So finally after a few more hours I finished and I have to say I like it :)

24th Jun 2007, 7:44 PM
In my opinion you should keep the one you have now, it's simply awesome :D
But I think your smaller house wouldn't look any worse, your houses are always great

24th Jun 2007, 8:07 PM
PorcelainWhisper: You have really nice graphics. And BRICK! -squeeeee!- Its has a certain look to it, and I would tell you what it was if I could remember. Its cool though.. Very.. Elegant looking.

Breena: Its so nice. Modern-y, which is really cool. Modern houses are just really.. Captivating.
For me anyway....

BetteBob: Now thats devotion. High five. Thats the point where i would have said "SCREW IT." and told my game to go die. :P
But all your hard work paid offffff. Awesome house. Its so shiny. :D

cari4003: -blink- Your house is just really.. Cool. Its so.. Interesting. I stared at it for a good 5 minutes, trying to take everything in. I honestly cannot /wait/ to see how you furnish it.

GoldenSimmer: Golly. Heyyyy! <>< I love your housseeee. The dark brown is really pretty. Really. Pretty. And your roof.. Its perfect. I envy you, I do I do.

P$ycho$immer: Woot! Hurry though.. xD I'd be uuber mad if you didn't get it in on time missy.

Recca: The white walls and the dark trim? Awesome dood. I love the outside, the gazebo is so cuuute. :D

contrakat: -raises hand- Oh oh! Me! I want to live there! Awesome job on the outside. Like woah. You have patience and skill my dear.

Queen_Mary_2: Awh! So cute and small. :P Just one question.. Where are the totally awesome [and rather simple to add] flower boxes?

SwiftSign: -squeal- [Told you..] You entered you entered yay! Your comments made me laugh. "Damn radioactivity." Is that safe? :P
Its white! I always wanted a white house... Itd get dirty though.. Ah the beauty of the dirt free sims world...

Mzcynnamon: Yay! Im happy you entered anyway. :) Its a really nice house too. And you need to shush about the landscaping, okay? Its lovely. Simple, which is nice. You know how much people pay for open lawn like that in Montecito? xDDD

Guess what? Stop spamming ;) That goes for everyone.

25th Jun 2007, 2:50 AM
Then maybe you should try -actually talking to me elsewhere.-

Okay, Im done. By the way, if anyone has any suggestions for CC for the livingroom/office, feel free to pm me! :D:D

Edit : bP...? That was really fast.
A new record.
But I promise Ill stop. The lawn does things to my mind, I swear.

25th Jun 2007, 3:24 AM
PST = Pacific Standard Time? Ohh, that's where I am! I think. If so . . . applications have ended!

I waited much too long to comment individually on each house, and I am unclear as to whether a huge collection of inane comments on the pretty houses would be spammy or not, so let me take a moment to commend everyone for their creativity, talent, experimentation, and über designing skillz. ;)

It'll be hard to judge amongst the amazing entries, no doubt, but it'll be fun, too. I mean . . . *drool* I do hope some of these houses will be uploaded? Gah, breaking my resolution to only download medievalish stuff for my RKC . . . well, cheers, everyone!

25th Jun 2007, 4:11 AM
Will there be any eliminations for the apps?

25th Jun 2007, 7:24 AM

It'll be up in a few momentssss.

25th Jun 2007, 9:06 PM
Round One

For round one you will be decorating the living room and the office. Exciting huh?
This is your first round, therefore it is your first real example of the contest.

Unfortunately, since we have 23 contestants, 8 will be eliminated [if no one drops out], leaving the number at 15.

*coughaerialcough* I think. Everyone sympathize with our lovely host for having me as a judge yet? I took forever on the actual judging, and rambled on and on and on about nothing, I think. Poor, poor Greenie.

Anyways, I finished my judging and sent it over, huzzah! Good luck everyone on the new round and I assure I got many headaches trying to judge this. All the entries were intriguing in their own way.

Whew! Two essays a week in summer school. And I have to proofread the one I wrote today. *headdesk* And I need an actual avatar. (/randomthought).

Next cycle, I have to enter this, if only to make ten houses fit only for a miniature :frog:. It looks like a bundle of fun, and I love that Arizona chair. ^^

26th Jun 2007, 6:57 AM

Living Room! (and entry)

just a question... would it be ok if we had people in our shots or should i just stick them in the back bath till we're done

26th Jun 2007, 12:05 PM
Thats a lot of eliminations Greeny! How is it that you need so many people to go? Love the entries so far, can't believe how fast you are!

26th Jun 2007, 1:53 PM
All right, here's my entry.
I'd never done a study before, but it ended up being surprisingly easy.
Far easier than the living room for sure. That one nearly gave me a headache. Nothing I did wanted to fit together right... I'm still not happy with it, but, oh, well.

Living room:

26th Jun 2007, 7:13 PM
At first I thought it would be horrible because of the blue office chair - I hate blue! But then I saw that it is actually turquoise, which fits perfectly well with the beachy theme of the house :D
I tried to make the living room look beachy as well, not too easy with the rose cushions of that chair!
I hope you like it nevertheless ^^

Will we need to put comments for round? :)

27th Jun 2007, 5:27 PM
Ok here is my entry, I may change the office I haven't quite decided yet

I wanted to create a really romantic space in the living room, with soft colours and lots of candles and comfy seats and yards of fabric.

I decided that a more classy, sophisticated office was the way to go, it meshes better with the romantic living room and is more stylish and a better place to work.

Cheers, everyone. & I actually have a little bit of time to make a few comments to the lovely entries thus far:

GoldenSimmer—lovely job on carrying the floral theme throughout. The living room has a cozy, garden-arbor feeling, and I love the wicker couch. The pink accent colour and the black fireplace was an especially nice touch to the room. I also thought the sleek-looking cabinet in the office nicely complemented the office chair, and the artprints as well. ^^ (In fact, where did you get those wall hangings? I am curious to know; in fact, I'm curious about nearly everything all the pictures have. So pretty. It's a shame I don't have my 160GB compy yet.)

photo_me2004—by the way, your avatar humbles me. I'm still stuck trying to write down the slides for per se, e.g. and i.e., since apparently I have made grossly inaccurate usage of those for years. *sniff* Anywho . . . the earthy modern theme is quite nice; the office prints, curtains, paint, and tables especially seem designed for one another and quite in sync. The entry with the floating stairs and that chair underneath is a spiffy touch, and the low cabinet underneath. The abstractly coloured rugs and window dressings are great for the room style. =) Pretty!

Fallon-Fly—you seem to be going for the lived-in slightly cluttered look in the office, and I love it. Not exactly cluttered, but it looks very much like a working office with all the paraphernalia stacked here and there. A lovely contemporary open-furniture style office. And the living room has some more clutterish type things that make it look more realistic. The overall style reminds me of this pretty Swatch watch, of a modern style, that had the same colour as the wall, nearly, in the living room. The rug and wall colour tie all the various pieces into a cohesive set.

Gerbera—the beachy theme in your office seems to me like a high-flying executive's little windowed office who vacations in the Mediterranean or Hawaii every summer. The window (is that a very sheer window dressing?) seems to accentuate this, and the smoky glass tabletop. Chess . . . every executive must have good logic, after all! Your living room (I waited 'till it uploaded) has a more formal beachy theme with the dark wood; still pretty, though. Love the Venetian blinds, the back-to-back chairs and the little table in between the req'd content. ^^

mumof5ferals—squee! Your monochrome office is very serious and cutting-edge to me, and the chairs in front of the desk on the carpet (yay accent carpets!) is a nice focal point, being the only colour in the place. The shelving is especially nice, and the clutter on the table, including the Mac-esque computer. Gotta love 'em! The living room is nicely delineated subtly into different areas, as well. The piano nook is cute. I play piano, by the way. ;) I love the wall hook with the basket and towelly thing. And—hey, what's that hat on the wall? It looks like the traditional Vietnamese hat, and some people actually do use them as deco in real life. *points to self*

bekpek—love how the wallpaper is echoed in the couch pillows, and used as an accent wall for the fireplace (central to any living room that has it!). The print on the wall near the two req'd chairs seems to tie the various colours in the room all together, and looks like a cozy little nook for two to chat, or read from the pretty bookshelf. Directly across, and contrasting, is a more linear-designed sitting area, v.s. the sort of enclosure mentioned previously. Sort of like the kiddie's window seat. ^^ All the seating is lovely. Office shelf on the wall is nice too . . . simple, stretches out past desk, and the paraphernalia on it makes it look lived-in. And more tie-in pillows and pretty shelving.

mzcynnamon—it's either the paint complementing the picture of the lady's face, or the mirrored floor, because the whole space seems to shine. =D Folders on the wall, light switch, thingie that's realistic I don't know what to call; very impressively realistic. But I love the living room. The dark purple colour scheme (actually, I think I like the term wine-coloured better) presumably to complement the req'd pillows, looks very luxurious. The picture of the moon on the ocean, dim lighting, chocolatey rug, give a nice sort of . . . uhm . . . secluded, cozy atmosphere.

breena—flooring, right? The carpety rug looks soft on the feet and the furniture complements the needed chair. The candles, fruit bowl, and plant make it look like it was designed well, and the magazines and stuff make it look lived-in. Floor length curtains! *squeals* Simple, complementing the chair, sort of elegant. The rug and large couch make the office look exactly like a reception/office room, with the rug. ^^ Deco is cleverly placed, like the tiny shelf near the window and the desk replete with working stuff. Laptop, suitcase, phone, agenda in the back, I think? and the wall-hung TV. Nice atmosphere.

ChickFlick—I admittedly flinched a little at all the negative space in the living room, but your large space seems more like room for the chi to flow (yep, Feng Shui, and the low stone table and stick arrangement reminded me of it) and space for party guests to stand up, nibble on stuff, maybe rest in a corner. Various sculptures and natural touches look nice, and I love Mr. Teddy. ^^ Natural touches seem to echo all over the place, especially with the wicker chair and the matching purpleyness. Office looks so high-tech with the desk stuff, but I can still see a natural theme (yay green building!) in the stone under the desk and green wall.

What, I'm not done? Are you serious? Another page? My fingers are falling off and I'm teetering on nonsense.

iampinkstar—reminds me most of a purple boudoir (yay purple! one of my favourite colours stars in this round). Candles to set the atmosphere (I like to have three types of lights: overall, reading (focused lighting) and deco lighting (spotlights & candles to set extra mood). I do love the candles on the wall and standing up near the two chairs and matching bookshelf! Ornate pink/purple paneling, floor-length curtains again! And the rug! Nice job, makes it more comfy, while hardwood floors are more efficient. I think for the office, you really made it more vivid with lime green. *starry eyes* The floor design's modern and kooky and fun, like the turquoise+lime green pairing; how'd you do it? Little things like shelves and sculptures and the daisy painting make it great. ^^ Slightly cluttered, but cozily and kookily so.

cari4003—oh, wow, sunken living room? The stone, the foundation around, the dark mirrored wood floors make a sort of mountain aerie lodge style to it. (Emphasis on mountain aerie, it's not cramped and dark.) The wicker fishtank is too cute, and the stone column thingie near the chairs looks quite nice. And the open-air shelves. *coughmountainaeriecough* I especially love the slanted sofa and coffee table. Office is a brighter, less formal/lodge style with the green and the blocky rug. The plants make me think the wood cabinet is bamboo, nice renewable wood source; the desk is modern and curved and lime green! Walls look natural as well; sheer curtains look elegant and not blocking the mountain view I know is out there.

coldfloral—brown wicker theme, with the purple chair a more flowery touch to the serious and straight wood. Apples complement the wicker coffee table, and add to the autumny/natural theme. And the plants! Very nice. I love the abstractly designed brown-themed art on the wall, unframed too, which fits perfectly here, as framed would be too confining. And if this is autumn, the office is a cool and icy winter. (I wax poetic the tireder my fingers get. *giggle* Bad grammar!) Frosted-glass doors to the shelves, fluffy rug . . . cool blue and white touches everywhere. Love the clock!

I'm scared, there's no sign of ending, but I'm afraid to shortchange the later contestants!

BetteBob—I had to smile seeing the brushed metal letters. The towel and the lighthouse/sand tool play sets are perfect, very unique. And the little boat model I nearly missed! You chose a nice neutral sandy theme to set the bright blue and white off, very cool. Ohh, and the bookshelf that looks like a refurbished canoe frame or something! And in the living room, I noticed a default Maxis wooden instrument thing. Never found a use for it, but the intriguing tribal masks and dark brown theme works well with it! :D A photo shelf from Holy Simoly, discreet and in B&W. I love the small touches, like the wood under the fireplace, pillows on the coffee-table thing, and large B&W photo leaning on the wall.

boolPropped—eventually, it's the mod that will get shortchanged. Is there an age limit to coffee? But it's afternoon . . . evening, nah. Oh—a ceiling? Venetian blinds and sheer white fabric thing? Abstract bronze-squiggly art panels on the wall? And the clincher for the living room; the little half-room in the back for the req'd chairs and a little table with that defaultly Maxis thing! Office is cohesive with the theme (oh, and I'm very young and immature, and too lazy to use proper grammar and word usage, sorry!) with the burgundy walls and clean white trim. Ohh, and the long windows on either end and the fabric panels with a subtle design! Bamboo-looking mirrored floors like my house!

Whew. I think I must've done at least half of the expected entries. Cheers, everyone. Sorry for rambling and not saying anything useful. Uhm.

This will be edited periodically to add comments to entries below:

PorcelainWhisper—no nervousness needed! You do a lovely job at this. The slanted rug and distressed floors give it a more comfortable and homey feeling, and the candles, hanging art, and sculpture leaping out (Holy Simoly, how I love thee!) of the wall is lovely. Small and cozy, and looks like a place that looks good but doesn't make you afraid to accidentally track mud in. Eek. The pile of pillows on the floor of the office similarly makes the house seem accessible and fluffy and full of places to stretch out with the next Potter saga! The unframed art canvas adds to that. The flooring in both rooms is an interest to me especially, though. Both have slightly worn but nice looking rugs and are over ash-grey floorboards. For some reason, I have an image of a remodeled rather old house that still retains quaint vestiges of its former self. ^^

Carla—in fact, the living room is probably quite small, but you've done a nice job making it cozy and slightly roomy. It looks like the room of someone who rather likes country-style (wrong term?) furniture, but paints it white to set off all the textiles. Yes, some fabric store owner, probably. ^^ Love the pillows (incidentally a design trend in the Silicon Valley last year and still going strong in places!) everywhere. The wainscoting and white country-style furniture and windows make it rather quaint and cute. Ack, running out of my space quota, but the entry is equally lovely, and the office comfy (the armchair is great there) and a good place to work for someone who doesn't spread out in their desk. The mirrors everywhere are great for making the room spacious. ;)

Recca—I love how part of the desk is diagonal in the study, and the couch tucked discreetly into a small corner. All the clutter (the Da Vinci Code!) makes it more realistic. It's a slightly weird shape for an office, and the little couch area is slightly dark, but it looks more tucked-in and not so noticeable back there, so it works well with being embedded into the wall, practically. The front of the living room with the half-hexagonal is a favourite thing I like to do, and it looks nice here, like the front of the house. And there seems to be a sort of entryway before going into the whole living room at the door. There's a TV area that seems to be more a gathering place, and the chairs make a more intimate place to chat in front of a fire. ^^ Having the rugs the same makes it slightly more unified overall, rather than two separate rooms.

SwiftSign—the office seems so cool and air-conditioned and quiet, with a small desk in the corner. The diagonal thingies that jut out (the diagonal walls with the windows?) is a great idea that breaks up the monotony, otherwise the room might seem too empty. As it is, it just looks clean and minimal on clutter. The lounge is again simple, and the alternating carpet looks quite nice in subtly dividing the room, although usually I shy away from that kind of thing. The artwork really seems to be the center of the room, though, with a rug in front of it and the req'd chair tilted towards it, and the cleared-out area presumably for people to gather and observe. Nice job with incorporating so much scorned Maxis content into it, and make it look nice. ^^

romyhorse—. . . wow, the living room looks so imposing. The fireplace towers up with a little table thing on either side, and the chandelier hanging down, and the large fluffy rug and the dark grapey-chocolatey theme throughout, and that huge grand piano. . . but the sheer white panel over the door, I think, lightens it up, as does the uncluttered floor around the rug. I like the little side area with the two chairs and the chess table, which seems less serious with the butterfly paintings but still blends with the rest of the room. The study seems to have a faint whisp of a beachy theme with the unframed art hanging around, the wainscoting, the buoy, but it's also sort of not with the contemporary theme. I can't quite wrap my words around it, but it's a very subtle beachiness.

Thanks for the comments Contrived, I'll keep them in mind for the future rounds. :)

Greenie- It seems that the link to my round one on the first post is incorrect.

28th Jun 2007, 4:54 AM
Contrived ~ thanks for the compliments, its always nice to know what people are thinking. oh and by the way, the "coffee-table thing," its a couch ;)and the towel is a rug but no worries, its all good :D

28th Jun 2007, 5:49 AM
I'm glad you liked my little paean to everyone; it makes the typing so worth it!

Anyways, to cut down on spam (unless long posts are spam? eek!) I'll be updating that post periodically as more people sound in with their entries. I wouldn't want to miss a chance to spew pointless stuff at everyone, after all. Must be equal. ^^

And I apologize if I do not properly identify something or don't quite use the right name. Due to my few years and forgetful mind and the nature of Sims furniture as being unique enough that it's hard to tell what it is, I'll make tons of mistakes. I.E. . . . no, wait. *checks Photo's avatar* Uhm, no, e.g., I have this sort of coffee table at home that's covered in white leather, with an open space at the bottom with a area to store stuff, and three flippable leather cushions on top that have little black wood trays underneath. The chair would look a lot like plastic without a very good texture in Sims, but in real life it is clearly a sittable coffee table.

Contrived Thank you! You have made me feel much better about my entry... I was going for a slightly remodeled-in progress house. My confidence is restored.

28th Jun 2007, 1:12 PM
Contrived, thank you for your comments. That stone column thingy is a fireplace but unless you're sim is standing right in front it doesn't show up so well. lol. Thanks again.

Great entries everyone.

~Contrived, thank you, I'm glad you liked my office and livingroom areas. Your comments were very thoughtful and appreciated :) I feel for you judges, there are some awesome entries turning up!

All entries are really great, this will be though for the judges :P
Thanks for the nice comment, contrived, I appreciate that! I can't believe that you found time to go through every entry  But I think that's really helps! (At least it does help me when someone comments).

28th Jun 2007, 9:14 PM
lol Contrived your comment about my avatar made me laugh... and thank you so much for the comments. thats exactly what I was going for!

28th Jun 2007, 10:26 PM
Contrived, you have a hellish amount of patience.

-feels bad she would kill herself before finishing comments like that- :hmm:

That was really nice of you. ^_^

Anyway, awesome entries everyone.. -nodnod-

29th Jun 2007, 6:06 AM
I only have patience enough for one more round. *sigh* Although I'd be really sad if it were only one more. The architecture and interior design shown is stunning, and so many people have run with themes I would never consider. And they make them work, which I can't. I deal exclusively with contemporary or medieval, pretty much. *blush* So it's really eye-opening to be judging this contest and look closer at it than I would if I was just lurking. And of course seeing all the lovely things people contrive.

*/pompous speech*

30th Jun 2007, 7:35 PM
I'm sorry emodawg and contrakat have to drop out. *sniff* You two had lovely house exteriors, and I appreciate your pictures while you were here.

On another note, I updated my longish post back there with my opinions of entries I missed. I noticed some of the earlier entries got short shrift and have less writing for them, so I apologize. But I really am not sure if it is worth adding any comments now, so I suppose I shall try to make it more even next rounds!

*deep breath* Happy birthday to Greenie, happy birthday to Greenie, I'm sorry I'm so busy, and my judging-won't-be-in-until-Monday-probably!

Happy birthday present for you, eh? Sorry, Greenie. You're a great host and I deeply respect you, but my mummy is home for the weekend from her certification course at a nearby university, and I'm going to try to cook elicodali with cream and cheese for her.

So, I tried building a little house spontaneously, inspired by a few nice examples shown here.

I made a teensy house fit for one or a couple, no roof because it made it look messed up, no landscaping because halfway through I realised that it is hardly my forte. Still, I'm rather proud, and I did a few things I never did before: a more unique house shape, flooring versus an auto-roof, and for once I didn't make a blueprint or try to position the house exactly in the middle of the lot, but just built. ^^ I came pretty close to centering it perfectly, though!

I put it here (http://contrived.sitesled.com/001/showingoff). ^^ If any of the amazing builders/interior designers out there would care to critique it, I'd love so.

The second floor is unfurnished because I realized I had no more pretty custom content around that point to use. :smash: Haha, all my Simmies have houses with nothing but a tiny phone and a table because I keep on promising myself to build beautiful CC-filled rooms.

2nd Jul 2007, 4:35 AM
I thought I changed it to say it ended today.
I suppose not. :hmm:

A few hours late, but Round Closed.

Romy, it's wonderful! I always love your rooms! :valentine

2nd Jul 2007, 4:50 PM
I just sent my scores in! :)

2nd Jul 2007, 6:29 PM
with the drop outs Greenie, how many people are leaving the contest?

2nd Jul 2007, 8:21 PM
With the drop outs, and the fact one person didn't turn in their entry, there will be 5 eliminations. :hmm:

Ill have to get Round Two together a bit later, computer has no battery, and Im tired as hell.
I nearly had to crawl out here.

3rd Jul 2007, 9:36 PM
Okay. I have less than half the scores.

And since there's eliminations, I cannot really tell you to do the round if there is a chance you'd be eliminated. Ya know?

-waits patiently-

3rd Jul 2007, 11:53 PM
Okay :) *waits patiently with Green* :D

4th Jul 2007, 2:47 AM
Oh...I forgot to write this but I sent my scores in yesterday night! :)

Good luck everyone!

4th Jul 2007, 6:13 AM
Can you at least call on some EJs? This is taking forever.

4th Jul 2007, 3:37 PM
We're three days behind...is this contest over? We could go with the scores that you have turned in already, everyone worked hard on their entries and I'm quite sure everyone would like to continue.

4th Jul 2007, 3:39 PM
I think we should go with the scores that are already in.

4th Jul 2007, 3:43 PM
On Saturday, I'm leaving for a week on vacation. With the way you had it laid out before I'd be home for at least 1 day for each round, but if we keep getting behind, I'm not so sure I will be. I leave the 8th and come home the 12th. I guess I'll just have to see how all the rounds go.

4th Jul 2007, 5:07 PM
Ditto, I planned out things as well around the schedule. Really peeves me off when judges volunteer than don't do what they say they will.

4th Jul 2007, 5:41 PM
guys remember, Greenie is working off scetchy internet at the moment.... just be patient sometimes these things take time

4th Jul 2007, 6:45 PM
Its hard running a contest ladies and gentlemen, we should give Greenie her due for running a contest so many of us want to be involved with.
Im patiently waiting and I suggest the rest of you do the same.

4th Jul 2007, 8:07 PM
Patient, patient.....trying to be patient. Sorry to hear about your internet Greenie, and this is a great contest.

4th Jul 2007, 8:09 PM
I agree with Cari, if someone says they will judge they should do it. I wouldnt ever not when I have said I will as it is just rude if not. Anyway Ill be patient and wait for the results :)

4th Jul 2007, 11:08 PM
I agree with Cari, if someone says they will judge they should do it. I wouldnt ever not when I have said I will as it is just rude if not. Anyway Ill be patient and wait for the results :)

I agree. I would never commit to something unless I knew something would stop me from doing so. If something unexpected happens it's fine. This round has ended almost three days ago...

but I do applaud Greenie for being so patient :)

4th Jul 2007, 11:08 PM
~photome and imapinkstar, no one is complaining to or about Greenie, we all know about her internet issue. She stated above that she was waiting for the rest of the judges...that's why I suggested that we could go with the one she already has. I believe we are all being patient, asking a few questions is not being impatient... :)

5th Jul 2007, 4:44 AM
Oh, guys, I'm so, so so sorry about not getting in my results earlier. I know it's no excuse to say that real-life issues came up, but that's what happened, and I deeply apologize. I just sent my results in, however, and you guys all did a lovely job. I'm sorry I couldn't get these in when I should have.

5th Jul 2007, 2:36 PM
~Contrived, don't worry RL does come first, and those of us in the States (US) celebrated Independence Day on yesterday. So, no biggie, really :)

5th Jul 2007, 3:43 PM
I'm sorry to say I'm going to have to drop out of this contest. I reinstalled Sims last night because of glitches. I forgot to back up my house. =/ It was nice being able to be in it though. Good luck to all!

5th Jul 2007, 5:53 PM
Ugh, I totaly agree with everyone here. I'm ver disappointed in myself for not getting the scores in. But I've been having issues with my fmaily and I've been grounded until forever off the computer. But they only let me on for a second to post my round one for miss galaxy. I'm so sorry I wasn't able to contact you, greenstraws.

And I'm going on holiday AGAIN today until monday. :(
I'm so so so so so sorry for delaying you all, and I wish I wasn't grounded by my evil parents. And both holidays that I had to go on and miss judging were very sudden, but real life is a tad more important for me at the moment. And I regret taking the judging position, and I'm sorry to of let you down. I'm normaly very punctual and prompt with sending in scores. I haven't got enough time to do it now because again, I am allowed on for a second to say sorry. :( I will try my best (my ultimatr best) to get on for next round's judging. I have no problem with you making one of the EJs a proper judge because I may not be able to get online properly.

(Well they aren't evil, but they are sometimes, lol)

5th Jul 2007, 10:44 PM
Ok everyone, sit tight. Im talking things over with Greeny, trying to work everything out schedule-wise. Its tough running a contest in general, and working with an unstable internet connection makes it even harder.

Anyways... sit tight everyone. Things will get done and posted one way or another :)

6th Jul 2007, 12:55 AM
*gets on knees and begs*

guys, i am ABSOLUTELY SORRY about not sending scores in. My family decided they wanted to take off on a vacation these school holidays to tasmania, and my sister said i could use her internet while i'm here. unfortunately, we didn't count on the inability to actually USE the internet, so i've only been able to get on here twice [the first being on the pay-by-the-minute crummy computer on the boat here.] if you'd still like to have me, i'll be here.

</end extremely sorry rant>

6th Jul 2007, 1:53 AM
*hugs Daltonism and Zixx*

We're all busy and unfortunate, aren't we. Hopefully next round the fates won't jointly conspire, and I can hone my begging skills a bit. ^^ Because I feel guilty to keep the contestants waiting.

6th Jul 2007, 3:29 AM
hehe *returns group hug*

i was just thinking before how ironic it was that all the judges seemed to have a spot of bad luck at the same time. :D

as i said, if you still want me, i'm here!

i was just thinking before how ironic it was that all the judges seemed to have a spot of bad luck at the same time.

Not going to happen again! *bangs hand on table* Oww . . . oh, well, anyway, I'm going to hopefully finish adding a Photoshop filter to some images and get my RKC story finally started. After two failed attempts and a year of staring at pretty downloads. :P And then I'm going to rush to get at least one teensy vignette every week at least, so I'll probably be stuck to the computer writing it. So I won't be able to be separated from the computer, and so I can write longer boring comments about everyone's rooms and (hopefully) get in quicker results! I left off adding comments when I sent in my judging thing, and it went much quicker. So it's probably better I babble on when I don't have a time limit.

(Also, I finished two tests for summer school. No more studying!)

As to the contest, our wonderful host must be busy, but should be coming back ASAP. Oh, now I feel guilty all over again. *sigh* I would offer to make comments on second-round entries, but of course nobody can make their second-round entires yet. So. Sit tight and swap ideas? I had an enormous amount of fun making an overgrown garden yesterday. It looks like someone with no sense of conflicting colours and no artistic sensibility plopped down a bucketful of flowers to amuse herself and to look pretty at a distance. Of course that's what happened. :dunce: I think I should look at some more tactful landscaping, because I really don't know what to do. I usually build small lots, because I don't know what to do with the empty space, but I can see the benefits of a large spacious lot where you have room to make ten little pseudo-Hawaiian huts in the spare room.

Can one of the judges take over as host, or at least get us going on the second round?

7th Jul 2007, 9:08 PM
Ive been in contact with Greeny... Lets all slow down for just a day or two. If she doesnt consider her responsibilities and get the contest rolling within about 24 hours, I will be closing down the contest.

In order for someone to take any contest over, it must have already completed at least one round and this contest is still technically in the application round (as the round 1 scores have not been posted yet). Plus if a contest is to be taken over, Im the one who needs to approve the new host.

Sorry for the inconvenience everyone, but this will be taken care of soon.

I'd hate to see the contest be shut down, I don't know greenie that well but it would break her little green heart!!

Why can't GreenStraws post the scores? All of the judges have posted here saying they sent them in, and GreenStraws has been online. So, why is nothing happening?

Okay. Err.. To start things off, sorry. :hmm:
Ive decided Im rather bad at this whole.. responsibility thing...
i can never seem to pull it off. Ask any pet Ive ever owned.
But only if you can talk to dead things.

Since this is getting completely out of hand, no eliminations, since I still have to deal with scores (because my pm box hates me.. :/).
Ill put up round two in a moment.

-sigh- Sorry againnn. Im amazed you all put up with me.

So I have to type it again.

Yay! It's round 2! I'm so so so so very happy that you were able to get this up Green. I'm really into this contest and I was pretty upset, thinking it would have to be closed way too early. Huzzah! I shall start my entry pretty much immediately since I've been so earnestly awaiting it :egg

I am really glad tat we'll continue with this contest :)
But if it is not too much work it would be nice if you could still let us know our points and / or any comments by the judges.

8th Jul 2007, 12:08 PM
ok, so i really hate to do this but since I have no internet access on my personal computer here for some strange and odd reason, I am going to have to drop out of the contest. I am so sorry everybody but its just too complicated. sorry again!

8th Jul 2007, 1:49 PM
Yey, round 2. Great to see you are finally over your problems greenie, looks great! :)

8th Jul 2007, 4:04 PM
unlike the other contest im in this one is actually going quite smoothly for me! I hope it gets better for everybody else!

This kitchen / diner just kind of fell into place for me!!

8th Jul 2007, 4:47 PM
My kitchen/dining room were a little smaller than they originally seemed, so it ended up being more of a kitchen with a dining corner.

Photo, I'm dreadfully sorry you'll have to drop out; you had lovely entries. ^^ But it'd be annoying to have to transfer pictures from computer to computer, so I understand, especially if access to another computer is not readily available. I'll miss you, though!

I'll probably start commenting on entries tomorrow? I made a goal to cook three whole meals for myself and another family member as part of my practice. Lunch is chopped potatoes thrown in with cheese and onions. :)

I found this round rather difficult since I barely have any purple items in my game (I hate that color actually) and so it was hard to make the things look nice together and still stick to the beach theme of the house ...
Also, I haven't been thinking enough when I built the house so the kitchen was kinda hard to place but I think I managed to add enough counter and storage space ...

So, here we go:

edit: Forgot to mention that all other entries for this round look awesome! And if everyone puts up their entries that fast, the delay of that round will be no problem :P

Well here goes my entry for round 2, hope you like it

As you can see the kitchen also includes a raised breakfast nook area

The dining room is used more for formal gatherings rather than everyday meals

Thanks for looking

Boolpropped, that kitchen is lovely!

9th Jul 2007, 8:43 PM
I have made a little breakfast nook with a view of the pond on one end of the kitchen and a formal dining area with a view of the mountain and fountain on the other side. I lightened pix up, but there was a thunderstorm coming...did add an erie feel to pix tho....lol.
