*Answer: Why would you be the best designer for this job?
I feel I would be the best designer for this job because I am fun and fresh faced, I have lots of great ideas and I can cater to people’s needs.

*One photo of a room you've decorated to show us your abilities.

*Answer: What is your favourite thing about this room?

I like the way I have arranged it. I think it’s got a mix between new and older, funky and retro. I think blue is a great colour that you can do a lot with. That’s why I have chosen it as an all round colour so that if the owner wanted to add a colour it could easily fit in.

p.s. I've never entered a house contest before so I hope I did everything right :)

Why would you be the best designer for this job? Designing of houses from interior to exterior is my life. I have a passion for little things that make a house a home. And I will not stop until I know my client is satisfied and happy with their home.

What is your favorite thing about this room? This is one of my favourite rooms I have designed and the reason why is because I made a little working space into something roomy and comfortable to relax in. Colour coordination and style is what makes a room beautiful.

13th Jul 2007, 5:27 PM

Why would you be the best designer for this job? I would be the best designer for this job because I graduated from the top design school with honors and I’ve been designing for 11 years, so I have experience. I specialize in family residential and family community lots, so I’m a family’s dream. :)

What is your favorite thing about this room? My favorite thing about this room is the feel. It feels very professional and relaxed at the same time, perfect for working parents. They have a place to sleep and a place to work with a stereo if they want to relax and goof off.

13th Jul 2007, 10:58 PM
I was going to enter, but some of the entries are good and I am scared I can't match up.

14th Jul 2007, 12:49 AM
You should still enter! Definitally! :)

Why would you be the best designer for this job? I myself have a family, and I know what a house needs to make a family feel comfortable. I've graduating from design school, and have proven to be able to successfully design homes of all kinds of themes. My favorite designing jobs, however, are those for a cozy family home.

What is your favorite thing about this room? The light colors seem to give the room a slightly "happy" feel, its inviting like a family space and yet still gives off the feeling of professionalism.

lol I dont know if that even a word but whatever>.<

14th Jul 2007, 7:20 AM
Tinkle, it's totally fine :)

14th Jul 2007, 8:02 AM
How long will each round last?

14th Jul 2007, 6:54 PM
so, i have a question. how wealthy is this family? can they afford anything or should designers keep a budget in mind?

14th Jul 2007, 7:30 PM
Each round should last around a week. The first round will be shorter to make up for time spent on applications. The family is fairly wealthy, but that shouldn't come into play until the next round.

14th Jul 2007, 9:42 PM
Can i use a sim currently in another contest, Im in the two house contests currently running and I'd like to use the same designers - is this ok since the contests are mostly about houses and not sims?

14th Jul 2007, 9:53 PM
Yes that is totally fine :)

Why would you be the best designer for this job?
I believe I'm the best designer for this job because I take the families wants and needs into consideration. I love designing houses for families because it is so rewarding knowing that I'm building a house for them to make memories in. I know I won't let this family down.

What is your favorite thing about this room?
I really love the open feel of this bathroom. I love the dual sinks. Those are so great for the mornings when you have a bunch of kids trying to get ready for school!

14th Jul 2007, 11:55 PM
Thank you for your entries!! I still really need judges!!!

15th Jul 2007, 1:38 AM
If you get desperate, I could judge instead of being a contestant.

15th Jul 2007, 1:56 AM
no no! More contestants is better than having more judges!

*Answer: Why would you be the best designer for this job?

I’m very much a private, regular person who happens to have a keen eye for design. My aesthetic comes from my being, my vision and not from the way I look. I wish to be judged solely on the merits of my work, not on the irrelevance of personal appearance. With that said, I understand space and function exceptionally well. I take pride in situating all my clients in individualized works of art that consider their needs, desires & lifestyles.

*One photo of a room you've decorated to show us your abilities.

*Answer: What is your favorite thing about this room?

I can be a fierce minimalist when I want to & this room is the perfect example of how we should strive to keep our homes 24/7. Clean, Simple and well preserved.

The light pours in, making a seamless transition from exterior to interior, and the loft-like ceilings and windows provide ample space above, meaning that less square footage is required to achieve the same open environment. I love how the fireplace (electric) is only visible through a window; this provides a perfect focal point without being too intrusive. Finally, the outside patio-garden combines form & function perfectly: providing a terrific view, privacy from neighboring homes, and a great outdoor patio for cool summer evenings. And check out that vintage tapestry!

Why would you be the best designer for this job?
I grew up as part of a large family so I understands the logistic needs, especially with a teenage girl in the family!

This is a living room I designed for an actress, although she had plenty of money she wanted it furnished with secondhand furniture to give it a more bohemian look.

What is your favorite thing about this room?
I really love the retro radio in the corner, I remember my mum and dad having one like that when I was a child.

Shot two (http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x10/divaxxmatti/img3.jpg)

What is your favorite thing about this room?
Purple is quite a hard color to create a room around, but the couple I was designing for insisted. And I think it turned out very well, and I loved the way it ended up looking. I also love the rug on the floor. It was a basement flat so I created a wall of light which looked very good.

If there is any problem with me using two pictures for the room. It was too big to include in one picture. Sorry. :anime:

Why would you be the best designer for this job?
I would be the best designer for this job because I have a good sense of style when it comes to decorating houses and I'm very good at making sure the clients are happy with my work.

What is your favorite thing about this room?
My favorite thing about this room is the beachy feel you get when you look at it. The colors are very complementary and mesh well together and the room has an overall clean feeling.

Meet Petunia Pendragon. She is 26 and lives in New York City. Petunia is employed by NV Design, located in Harrington Heights, NY. She is a gifted designer with many mega-celebrity clients to her name. Petunia loves a challenge, though, and on her off time likes to enter designing contests.

*One photo of a room you've decorated to show us your abilities.
*Answer: What is your favorite thing about this room?

Petunia says, "Here is a room I designed for the great Wilhelmina Harrington. There was a lot of competition for this job, but I won it because I took the time to research Mrs. Harrington's style and taste. My favorite thing about the room was the interplay of blue and orange."

Here's my app! Sorry for the cruddy pics, I had quality set to low and now must rush off to work. I will upgrade the pics later, but for now they'll have to do!!

EDIT: Ok, retook the pics on a higher setting -- so much better!

I'm away from my gaming PC, so I'm unable to create a new Sim or decorate a new room for the app, so I hope it's ok that I use an existing Sim & room I previously used in another contest...

Stella La Rue, 29, Atlanta

Why would you be the best designer for this job?
Having worked in this industry for 10 successful years, I know I have what it takes for this job! I create unique and beautiful spaces for my clients which offer them relaxation and happiness. What more could you want?!

This is the dining area of a larger kitchen. I love this nook in particular because of the textures and harmonious color tones. It's a very relaxing space, and makes me want to sit down with a glass of wine, and enjoy the company of good friends.

*Why would you be the best designer for this job? Because I can bring a fresh new look to any room, or transform a bare room into a light, breezey space you won't want to leave.

*What is your favorite thing about this room? The BLUE! My favorite color to use while decorating. This is a boy's room, and while it's fairly neat for two boys, it still has the tell-tale skateboard and books under the bed ;)

Congrats everyone! Round one will be posted later today!

:anime: ROUND ONE!!

For round one your task is to create the floorplan of the house. Basically you will be putting up the walls and designing the exterior of the house. The family would like their house to be one story if possible, and on a lot no bigger than 3X4. In otherwords, they would like a small house. They will need, a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and five bedrooms. Anything else is optional. As for landscaping, keep the plants and flowers to a minimum. You will need to take four pictures. One of the exterior and one areial view that is labled [photoshop or a photo editing program will be useful] to show which rooms are which. The last two pictures can be other views of the outside. Please don't paint the inside or put down flooring yet. :)
This round will end on Saturday! You may use any custom content you want. I'm just going to ask that you don't use any content from the pets expansion because the the final contestants will be asked to send me their homes for the final judging and I dont have my pets expansion installed. :) Thanks loves. Have fun!

16th Jul 2007, 8:17 PM
oohhh fun i will get started soonish

16th Jul 2007, 9:30 PM
I'll start tomorrow!

16th Jul 2007, 10:03 PM
Great! I'm excited to see what you do :)

16th Jul 2007, 10:54 PM
So we have to do the floor plan of the house...right?

And we also have to decorate the outside...do they just want flowers or can we add patio furniture?

16th Jul 2007, 11:04 PM
You get decorate with whatever you want outside. The family would like the flowers and such to be minimal however.

16th Jul 2007, 11:47 PM
Okay. Thanks. :)

17th Jul 2007, 6:14 AM
Would it be okay to have en suite bathrooms?

17th Jul 2007, 6:40 AM
Aaack! Eliminated in the application round! :( Oh well, good luck everyone!!!

17th Jul 2007, 6:42 AM
The layout can be however you want :)

17th Jul 2007, 8:34 AM
it's ok to use build cheats, right?

17th Jul 2007, 5:33 PM
I'm having real issues building a bungalow, so can I please please please have a two storey house?

My bungalows end up like funny shaped 1 leveled houses with massive roofs.
Sorry. :(

17th Jul 2007, 5:44 PM
question: can we add pools and decked areas and stuff like that

17th Jul 2007, 6:38 PM
Yes, cheats.
Yes, Pools and all that jazz
Yes you may build a two story house but in the end it may hurt you.

17th Jul 2007, 6:56 PM
May hurt me?
Oh, gawsh..
I'd get eliminated in this round if I built a one storey house, but I may have a chance with a two storey one.

So, if I have the main bedroom and the nursrey on the bottom floor, then the kids would be fine. Then I can have the other three upstairs. Would it still hurt me?

17th Jul 2007, 7:31 PM

i don't know, i'm getting the feeling that they may deduct points if it's not 1 storey. personally, i had the perfect 2 floor house already built, but have had to scrap it entirely and start from scratch.

it's taking forever, so you're not alone.

17th Jul 2007, 7:54 PM
I'm building a two storey house anyway, and if I get eliminated, such is life.

17th Jul 2007, 10:12 PM
I dont mean you'll get eliminated right away, but if you make it to the final so many contestants and its between your house and someone who built a one floor house then the person who built the one story may end up passing you. But go ahead and build a two story house. It's just about in the long run.

17th Jul 2007, 11:36 PM
Oh um...when does the round finish?

18th Jul 2007, 1:12 AM
Read the round info. It should be there. It probably says Saturday. Which would be morning because I'm leaving town for the day.

18th Jul 2007, 3:00 AM
hmmm.. looks like I'm the first one! :howdy:
ok let's see here..

First we have the Ariel View:

View from the road

View of the rear

View of whole house

extra notes: This one-story, 5-bedroom 4-bath house features a private sun-deck and garden area, medium sized pool and large patio. The floor plan is mixed open-closed. the living, dining and kitchen areas are open and great for entertaining. The private areas of the home feature closed floor plans to give the bedrooms and bathrooms a more secluded and private feel. This house has a 1-car garage that is not attached to the home. The house also features an in-home office that is perfect for everyday work and it is a great place for the kids to do homework. Outside, the landscaping is designed for low-key upkeep with a classic, homey feel. There is a small garden that requires watering just a few times a week. Also, there are two shrubs in front of the two windows in the front of the house that will require trimming. Other than that, the bamboo and trees don't require any watering or trimming. I hope you like what I have designed for you :]

18th Jul 2007, 3:34 AM
I thought we weren't suppose to add the wallpaper on the front of the house. Can you please specifiy.

18th Jul 2007, 3:43 AM
i think she just said don't paint the inside.

at least i hope so..

18th Jul 2007, 5:02 AM
Yep don't paint the inside. Anything outside is perfectly fine

18th Jul 2007, 5:27 AM

finally! after days of tweaking & rearranging i'm ready to show my floorplan. i decided that for this family a lot of open space was required to provide the kids with plenty of places to spend together, and also apart. i blended two very unique architectural styles as harmoniously as i could: ancient roman and japanese.

the basic plan is roman, with the open air atrium in the center (mine is covered with a glass roof) and the rooms clustering to the right or left of it. the japanese influences open the house up to even more light with big screens and sliding doors. japanese architecture also inspired the various zen gardens, the rock-lined pond and the garden courtyard.

a covered hallway links the master bed with the nursery for easy access. enjoy!

20th Jul 2007, 1:53 PM
I'm having real trouble building a bungalow for such a big family in such a small place. :(
And I'm not going to build a two story house if it's going to make me less likely to win.

So I'm going to have to drop out.

20th Jul 2007, 5:49 PM
Then you will be replaced with someone who would have liked to compete but was already eliminated because it isn't fair to them.

20th Jul 2007, 6:45 PM
okay, that's best.
Good luck to whoever takes my place. ;)

20th Jul 2007, 8:43 PM
Here is the house I designed for you. It's on a 3x2 lot so you won't need to worry about spending alot of time maintaining the garden.

At the side there is a pool and sun patio, and a trampolene and swing to keep the younger children happy (and tire them out!). From the back door there is a deck with a barbecue and outdoor dining furniture.

The back and the other side of house have been laid with matting and gravel to keep weeds at bay and is surrounded by a high wall for privacy.

Here is the floorplan of the house.

20th Jul 2007, 10:34 PM
Has five bedrooms, three bathrooms. There isnt quite too many plants, and most of them require no treatment. Theres a pool out back and a covered patio, as well as a swing for the kids.

Yes that explanation sucks. My brain is fried and Im tired..lol.

I'm having major issues with my gaming PC; it won't load past the blue windows xp splash screen. I'm trying to fix it as I type this, and hopefully I won't have to reinstall xp. That would be disastrous.

I unfortunately have to drop out. I have no way of getting my gaming pc up-and-running before this round's deadline.

21st Jul 2007, 5:51 PM
Hi all. So because I'm stupid round one will be non elimination and will continue alongside round two. This means in addition to the round two requirements people may edit their round one entries and put in late entries. For round two you will be decorating the living room, kitchen, and one bathroom. Your guidelines are as follows:
Kitchen: The family would like a cozy homey feel to their kitchen. Like a family would actually cook in it and not a group of top chefs or a robot.
Living Room: A modern look would be fun for Ridley, but if combined with the kitchen then go for more of a matching cozy feel. But really, just get creative and do whatever you feel!
Bathroom: A clean and un cluttered room. Light pastel colors or bright rich colors would be nice.

Be creative with your rounds and just go with it! Don't ask too many guiding questions, or none at all, because I'll be out of town for the weekend. It would hurt you to be creative. It will help you. This round will go til Saturday. I'd like judges to score the current entries for round one over all with a possible 10 points. Also, send me comments for each contestant. Thanks :)

This means in addition to the round two requirements people may edit their round one entries and put in late entries.

Soo.....does this mean I can change my round one entry, make a different house? I built that one when I was sick and Im not happy with it, Im feeling better now so I wanna try again..

22nd Jul 2007, 1:32 PM
So this means I can put both of them together because they are both due on the same day?

22nd Jul 2007, 1:39 PM

Ok....Ive changed my first round entry, like I said I wanted too a few posts up. From what I understand we're allowed to (right.....?), so if Im wrong I can just switch it back to the other house. I was just really sick when building the first one soo....I ended up not really liking it.

24th Jul 2007, 8:46 AM
I didn't know how many pictures to put up of each room so I have opted for 2.

I kept it uncluttered and decided to go with the light pastel idea. I think it works.

Well you wnted a cozy kitchen and brown is a very cosy color right now. I also made it very spacy because it makes it easier to move around cosidering the amount of people in the family.

notes: I kept the kitchen up-to-date but yet cozy. There is room for family and the space is cozy enough to feel relaxed in. Bonus: Brick Pizza Oven! fun!

Living Area

notes: The living space in this house was crunched, so I moved it to the "hall" Features a flat, wall mounted plasma screen TV, bean bag, dvd storage and book case.

Master Bath

notes: The white frame with the blue in it is a mirror. (I can't have reflections on in my game or things get screwy) I wanted the bathroom to feel elegant and modern. Vintage New Yorker magazine framed on wall.

i don't know what happened with the picture quality.. If I have time I might put different pictures up. Just letting you know :]

two rounds in a row without any comments from the judges was a bit too much. i can't even keep any of the entries straight anymore.

26th Jul 2007, 2:49 AM
Hey everyone, I'm back! :) I love all the entries that have been posted. You have until Saturday to turn in the first two rounds. I was hoping to have comments for the first round for you but none of the judges check this thread obviously because they have not sent me any scores. I'm sorry that they haven't done it yet. Make sure your pictures are following forum rules!

Also, yes you can change your house until this round is over.

I do have some scores! These are out of 10 from one judge. For round one!

1.Laura Osbourne – 6
I like the overall layout of the home because the livingroom, diningroom and kitchen, although awkward to furnish, are together and there is a flow established for day to day living.

I think the house could have been situation a few tiles closer to the street so that there would be more room out back. While I like a wider hallway, I do feel that these are rather large and space could have been better allocated to bedrooms and perhaps outdoors. I also like the front of the home but what’s up with the roof? I didn’t grade the roof for this one because no one else submitted a picture of theirs.

2. Hope Landers- 7
I do not like the fact that upon entering the home, you walk past all the bedrooms to get to the main living areas unless they are straight ahead. The living areas seem to be relegated to one corner and then all separated by walls.

The size of the bedrooms is very nice and I think the outside is beautifully done.

3. Summer Adams – 10
Very nice layout but and nice yard space..

4. Louelle Meyers - 10
Very nice layout and nice yard space.

5. Alexa Daniels - 10
Nice layout and nice yard space.

6. Vache - 10
Nice layout and nice yard space.

7. Chris Cusiter - 7

The size of the bedrooms is very nice and I think the outside is beautifully done.

8. Ellie Garnet – 8
I like the layout in general but feel that perhaps a couple of the bedrooms could have been a bit bigger and the nursery a bit smaller in comparison.

Nice space outside.

9. Yasmine Kindle – 8
I like the layout but I don’t see an exit for the backyard without going through someone’s bedroom. Nice space outdoors.
Some aren't very specific, and some just say the same thing but they are scores.

Ooops! I noticed that when I went in to decorate it and updated my floorplan.

I don't see Emma's scores...:)

26th Jul 2007, 10:31 PM
right i have finished judging and i have sent my scores for round 1 .. so sorry guys i thought we were judging one and two together but i have sent my scors and comments in!

26th Jul 2007, 11:19 PM
Actually, don't worry about Emma's scores. I must drop out. The neighborhood, where Emma and the house are, is acting very wierd. It's that one neighborhood that won't load properly and I'm having a lot of trouble with it. I'm so sorry because I was having fun in my first house competition, but that's life, right?

27th Jul 2007, 3:53 AM
Emma's round one wasn't posted in time for the scores. She'd get the score with her round two score :)

28th Jul 2007, 3:42 AM
When exactly tomorrow is this round due? I have my rooms done, and I also have the pictures taken, I just have to upload and post them, which I cant do tonight because Im stuck away from the computer that has the pictures saved on it until sometime tomorrow.

28th Jul 2007, 8:16 AM
I'll give you until Ten AM my time [pacific] Saturday.

oh, i thought it would be later than this. i was planning on having a few extra hours, but i can hurry and have my rooms but they may be a few minutes later than ten.

after unforeseen problems that forced me to purge some of my cc, i've finished more or less on time.

my master bath uses dark, rich colors to sooth and relax. i wanted the theme to be passion, so i used deep reds and intricate, inspiring artwork. the shower and tub are raised, and a tinted window overlooks the outdoors.

the livingroom opens out directly onto the atrium, and it was important for me to incorporate the house's themes in one of its most important rooms. i used airy colors where i could, and tried to keep it as minimal as possible. having open floorspace in the middle of the room was central to the design: i wanted a place where the kids could relax and play on the floor, bathed in the light from the atrium.

the kitchen is smaller than the other rooms to maximize space elsewhere. i used warm, inviting yellows and oranges to brighten it up as much as possible. i knocked down the wall to the breakfast space to make the rooms seem as large as possible. the breakfast table is perfect for enjoying company or a snack at times when the formal dining room seems, well, too formal.

28th Jul 2007, 6:30 PM
Rounds are now closed!

Judges, please send me your scores. Same as usual.

29th Jul 2007, 9:54 AM
i will be submitting my scores tonight as at the moment i am on a dial up connection and i cannot view the pics!!! expect my scores in by 8pm gmt

30th Jul 2007, 3:06 AM
I can't wait any longer for judges scores, so I'm posting the results from the ones I have now. :) There have been drop outs and no shows so I'll just announce the group that is continuing on.
Hope Landers

Louelle Meyers
Lara Osbourne

Summer Adams
Congrats to all who made it to the next round! If you would like to hear your judging comments then please PM me and I will send you the comments I have. Judges that did not turn in scores, please send at least comments to me as soon as possible.
Here is your assignment for the third round.

This round is all about bedrooms.
Please submit the following:
Two pictures of the master bedroom. The family would like it to be uncluttered, but other than that, get creative!
One picture of 16 year old Katie's room. She is into movies and music. Bright colors are wanted in her room. She likes anything to do with modeling and fashion. You do not need to show all of her interests in the room. Those just give you lots of options! :)
One picture of 8 year old Kassie's room. She'd just like to say...no pink! Well, very little. Kassie is very spunky. She enjoys Harry Potter, animals, and European things. Just because she enjoys Harry Potter for instance does not mean she would like a completely themed room. Just try and add something that reflects all her interests. :)
One picture of 2 year old Taylor's room. Taylor's room is requested to be one or all of the following colors: Blue, green, or yellow. Make it fun! And not girly! Taylor is a boy! :)

You may link to additional pictures of the kids rooms if you please! Also, please follow forum picture posting rules and PUT YOUR DESIGNERS NAME SOMEWHERE ON YOUR ENTRY PLEASE!!! :)

This round will be due on Saturday.

the master bedroom is almost exclusively a stark and crisp white; an ample amount of light gives the room a chic, modern appearance. the walk-in closet is visible through a floor-to-celling window behind the bed as well as two glass doors (to the room's right), and is likewise kept clean, minimal and inviting.

Alright I have to close this round for judging. Only three will continue into the finals! Good Luck!

4th Aug 2007, 7:02 PM
Hey guys, because I want to do this as quickly as possible, I'm using my votes and the scores I already have to judge and get this moving again.

The designers moving on are:
Chris! [20]
Hope! [16]
Vache! [14]

We're sad to have to say good by to Lara and Louelle who tied with 10 points each.

Round Four:
Welcome to the finals! This task will be a little bit tricking because it's the last one. If there are empty rooms in your house [which there should be] first begin by decorating them however you see fit. No guidelines. I want to see your creativity :). Take ONE picture of each room and post it. The final thing you'll have to do is package your completed lot. To pick the winner I want to judge on the design and not the pictures. With the complete packaged lot [you do not need to package your designer with the lot] you'll need to upload it to a free file upload like: http://files-upload.com/ or anything else you choose. Post your pictures here like any other round, and PM me the link to your house file. This is slightly complicated but ensures that the winner is chosen out of talent and not graphics cards.

The deadline is Friday because we have to have it done by Saturday!

4th Aug 2007, 9:06 PM
aw bye guys :]
this was fun while it lasted.
good luck Chris Hope and Vache :D

4th Aug 2007, 9:59 PM
everyone was really great this round :) I had to eliminate two people though. PM me for comments from judges.

4th Aug 2007, 10:12 PM
i'm sorry, i've never packaged a lot before, so i'm a little unclear on how it works with our CC. does CC automatically package with the lot, or does that have to be uploaded/listed separately?

4th Aug 2007, 11:51 PM
it will package automatically :) not too hard.

6th Aug 2007, 1:11 AM
recols will, but will their meshes?

6th Aug 2007, 1:20 AM
Yes. Everything used should be packaged.

6th Aug 2007, 7:06 AM
I think this is all the pictures I have to take.

7th Aug 2007, 1:42 AM
With the whole concept of the booty, I really don't think people care much anymore.

8th Aug 2007, 10:44 PM
I just wanted to add that I had to totally rebuild by house after I accidently deleted it. I think everything is there but if there is a bit of clutter missing or something is moved slightly, you know why. I don't know why the bed and table didn't show up, maybe they required Pets.

The final bedroom belongs to Katie's twin brother Kyle.
