Stormy, what's the premise of the rounds in this contest?

Will contestants be designing rooms based on specifications given by you? Or...?

11th Aug 2007, 7:21 PM
coldfloral - Yes. Everyone will be designing a specific room for each round. I will tell you at the beginning of the round what type of room you will be designing and what requirements I will be looking for.

11th Aug 2007, 10:04 PM
- Name of designer: Eloise Dean
- Age: 28
- Short bio: I grew up in a family of artists where everyone could paint, draw, or do something or another of that nature. I never really succeeded as a traditional artist that draws or paints but I did appreciate art and design. I was going to be a fashion designer because I loved sewing but I took an optional course on interior design and from then on I was hooked. I've been managing my own decorating firm ever since.
- What you consider your design style to be: My style can range from traditional to contemporary, it can change based on the client. I try to make all my rooms have a warm, cozy feeling though. For example I would never do anything super modern where everything is made of concrete because that just wouldn't be a room I would want to actually live in.
- What makes your design so unique?: I mix styles. I love pairing old antiques with new furniture which makes for rooms with a lot of character. Also since I come from a family of artists, I love using artwork as focal points in rooms. Art really can change the whole face of the room.
- A self-portrait of yourself

Bekpek has entered.

12th Aug 2007, 1:30 PM
Name: Martha Zimmer
Age: 32
Bio: After divorcing my third husband I decided to take classes again. Marriage didnt seem to be my "thing". Somehow, after finishing my edjucation, (arts) I ended up decorating a house for a friend, and got "famous" in that particular neighborhood. I started my own firm on those credits, and here I am...
Design Styles: I tend to go with my clients wishes. Personally I prefer a classic, yet minimalistic and feminine style, but I also have a "darker" side: a complete craze for color!
What makes me unique: I rarely look at design fashion trends, I just rely on my good taste.

My portrait:

Hanna Norene

- Age - 31

- Bio - I've had a pretty lucky life. My parents were well off, and when they got into the pasttime of "house flipping"--buying an old or rundown house, fixing it up, and then selling for profit, I got really good at designing the new layouts of the rooms. At first, I just did wallcoverings and flooring, but then we'd just use our old furniture when we'd show a house. Next thing I knew, I began to buy pieces here and there and the buyers would want to buy the furnished house! The realtors we worked with started recommending me to their own customers as a designer and voila, I had clients! I've been running my own small interior design company for the past five years now.

- Design Style - Open and Flexible

- What makes your design so unique? - It's twofold. First of all, I think that my clients are perfectly able to clutter up their own homes without my help. They pay me for a room that will look good whether they keep it pristine for company OR full to the brim with all their necessities. Also, I understand that someone might want both a clean, modern, and funky living room while preferring a cute, cozy bedroom to relax in.

Some room examples:

Judging will be fun, but not easy ...

13th Aug 2007, 8:09 PM
Oh I definitley want to join! I love designing. I hope not too much Photoshopping is required because honestly, I only have Paint and thats it, LOL

13th Aug 2007, 8:10 PM
Gerbera - definitely not easy. ;)

PinkLily, photoshopping is allowed, but not required. So no worries. :anime:

13th Aug 2007, 8:30 PM
I'm excited about this contest! It's my first design contest and I'm like really afraid it's going to be hard for me but I can't wait to try.

Just to double check, is it true that the 45 degree rotation cheat can't be used if you only have the base game? I really wish I could use it but I think I've heard that it won't work.

13th Aug 2007, 8:32 PM
I'm excited too. I'm sure you'll do just fine. I sure hope I get more applications though. :err:

I think it came with University, but I'm not exactly sure. You can google the sims 2 university cheats and see what pops up. :)

13th Aug 2007, 9:05 PM
RSG - you can download a hacked bamboo plant here: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=102657 that will let you rotate things at 45 degrees even if you only have the base game. I have all the ep's so I don't really know how to use it but I hope it helps you!

14th Aug 2007, 2:30 AM

This looks like a lot of fun. I really enjoy building and have only just started to pick up more on the design aspect of things, but I recently went on an object downloading spree, so I want to put this stuff to good use!

Hopefully I'll learn a lot, the competition is already looking pretty stiff.

14th Aug 2007, 3:12 AM
I'm sure you'll do great! That's good you downloaded a lot of objects. That'll help a lot in this competition. :)

14th Aug 2007, 3:14 AM
I didn't download to many stuff, lol ever since I deleted every CC in my game cause it stopped working, I paid very very great attention to what I downloaded.

14th Aug 2007, 3:21 AM

Steph White
Age: 25
Short Bio: I tried my hand at modelling and that fell flat on its face, so I decided to go into decorating. I get a lot of satisfaction knowing I did a good job of designing and decorating rooms.
What you consider your design style to be: I consider it to be a little modern with a touch of class.
What makes your design so unique?: I think that everyone has their own sense of uniqueness. I believe my uniqueness is making a house a home.

14th Aug 2007, 5:22 PM
Whoa your sims is gorgeous, mumof5ferals! Your designs are beautiful. Thanks for applying! :D

- Name of designer: K.C. Stevens
- Age: 29
- Short bio: I was born and raised in Glens Falls, New York, and graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in architecture. I now live and work in New York City.
- What you consider your design style to be: I have no single overall style. I try to follow the concept that form follows function ruthlessly.
- What makes your design so unique?: I make my designs unique. All designers are individuals, so unless they deliberately copy others, their creations will be unique.

14th Aug 2007, 9:56 PM
Awesome designs, redwing! I see this competition is going to be pretty interesting. Thank you for applying!! :)

NAME: Henry Graham.
AGE: Twenty-Nine.
SHORT BIO: I am one of the only male interior designer's in my hometown of Godric's Hollow. I get a lot of flack for it but I honestly wouldn't have my life any other way. I am married and have a four-year-old daughter that is the center of my world. I discovered my interest in interior design after watching design shows on television with my mother when I was younger.
DESIGN STYLE: Clean and practical.
WHAT MAKES YOUR DESIGN SO UNIQUE? My designs are usually simple and straight to the point. You want an aquatic themed bathroom? You'll get an aquatic themed bathroom. I don't throw in any surprises. I try to keep clutter at a minimum and instead focus on the larger pieces of furniture in the room.

(My daughter's bedroom.)

14th Aug 2007, 10:31 PM
Yay my first male contestant! :D Great job on your application! Thanks for applying!

15th Aug 2007, 12:27 AM
Name: Cherry Roberts
Age: 20
Short-ish Bio: I grew up in a large city with my family, my mother a painter and my father a photographer so I’ve always been interested in the arts and designing. I’m currently working as an assistant for my Cousin who’s an interior designer, picking up tips here and there and watching a pro at work. I’ve even been given full responsibility of some of her client’s rooms; they’ve been really impressed with my work. Interior design is definitely the direction I want to follow in.
Design Style: I think my style is very unique to other peoples. I like things that are colourful and beautiful, something you could actually see someone living in. I’m not really into minimalist design, or keeping things neat and perfect. For me it’s all about the details – colour, patterns and texture. Adding little trinkets here and there; the things that really make a room come alive.
What makes my design so unique? I treat my design rooms like they’re a piece of art; I love combining different styles together or even creating a theme for a room. I take a lot of time and pride into choosing the right furnishings to go together, to create the perfect room that’s unique to my style.
This is me:

As you can see I love colour, and I know that these shots don’t really show the room as a whole, but that’s because they were taken before this contest. If you accept me into this contest you’ll definitely see wider scale rooms.

Just For show if anyone’s interested :D

Recently I’ve taken a large interest into exterior design; here are some of my best:

15th Aug 2007, 9:58 PM
Name - Olive O'brien
Age - 26
Short bio - I was born in Egypt and raised in Ireland. I moved to Peru at the age of 13 and lived there for seven years. At 20 I moved to London which is where I live. At Age 20 I took a course in interior design, but since the age of 14 I had helped my Dad design rooms, as his job was an interior designer.
What you consider your design style to be - I do tend to be a bit too minimalistic, but it's something I've been working on. I haven't got any pictures of my recent work, but as you can tell by my pictures I like keeping things very modern and organized.
What makes your design so unique?
I can change vairly easily. I'm not too stuck on one style. I think although my designing is a bit common, I can make thinks out of the ordinary.

15th Aug 2007, 10:09 PM
Meeh. I'm a perfectionist. ;)
I would have preferred to have used some more recent pictures. They're quite old. From before I downloaded all the OMSPs.

15th Aug 2007, 10:14 PM
Well it's just the application round. No one will be eliminated. I just wanted to see what you could do and check out your design style. ;)

15th Aug 2007, 10:22 PM
What the hell are OMSPs and WCIF? Next time you're not talking for a second, please let me know, dalton. Thanks.

15th Aug 2007, 10:32 PM
 I didn't know these things at first too, lol.

OMSP = One more slot package (Allows you to put more that one more item on top of coffee tables/tables/counters. But ones have been created to put items on stairs, pianos, bookshelfs and fireplaces etc)

WCIF = Where can I find (One of the subforums on here where you can ask where to find things)

15th Aug 2007, 10:35 PM
I'm glad I asked, dalton. Can you tell me/us where to find OSMPs...or what to enter in a search engine? Thanks very much.

15th Aug 2007, 10:49 PM
I'm glad I asked, dalton. Can you tell me/us where to find OSMPs...or what to enter in a search engine? Thanks very much.

Check on MTS2(modthesims2.com) and search "OSMP" or look at the Sims 2 Wiki and search "Clutter".

Guys, try and cut the chatter out - applications and questions only please. If you need to know where to find something, use the PM system, search to try and find it yourself or ask in the WCIF Forum.

Everyone has less than 48 hours to get their applications in or to finish their application! I will start round 1 tomorrow at 8pm Pacific Eastern Time. :anime:

16th Aug 2007, 7:34 PM
Name: Devon Gilheed

Age: 29

Short Bio: To put it bluntly, I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth so I've never had to work. I've recently got a passion for decorating, however, and this is now my full time job. I've always liked style but never have fully decorated a room to tailor to someones needs or my own but I love it!

What you consider your design style to be: My design style can range but it always stays on the modern side. I like green a lot and try to keep a primary colour in my room but mixing colours isn't so bad!

What makes your design so unique?: Because of my different styles mixed in but always keeping it modern, I think that is my unique aspect. I can take earthy and make it modern, instead of dingy and grungy.

Examples of work.

The second picture is my CAS, hence the gap by the rugs. :p On the last picture.. the weird circle things are steps. Just incase you wondered..

What you consider your design style to be?
She has an eclectic style of designing, mixing and matching various standard styles to create a visually pleasing space.

What makes your design so unique?

Everyone has less than 48 hours to submit their applications! There will be no eliminations for the application round even if I receive more than 20 applicants. Once again, the deadline time to submit your application is at 8pm Pacific Eastern Time. However, I will most likely post Round 1 before the deadline is over. So you will still be able to submit your application after I've posted Round 1 as long as it's before 8pm.

Thanks again for joining! I promise I will make this as fun as possible for you all! :anime:

17th Aug 2007, 1:50 PM

17th Aug 2007, 2:04 PM
Jonesi, I believe it's 8.

17th Aug 2007, 4:48 PM
Yeah I'm not exactly sure, but I think it is 8 hours.

I apologize, I had said there was less than 24 hours when I meant 48 hours. I was so tired when I posted that last night! :err: Anyway, everyone has until tomorrow 8pm P.E.T. until Round 1 is posted. :anime:

17th Aug 2007, 5:13 PM

17th Aug 2007, 5:21 PM

What makes your design so unique? My designs are different based upon the client, but I always try to add that extra touch that will make the client feel at ease about getting what they wanted plus some added value.

One question, should it be the same living room [Size, doors and windows at the same place...] done in two styles ?? Or two different livings would be fine ?

19th Aug 2007, 5:45 PM
It can be either the same living room or another one, but try not to make it such a big size difference. Like the second living room can be a little bigger than the first one, but not too much bigger.

19th Aug 2007, 5:47 PM

Name of designer: Allison James
Age: 23
Short bio: I'm from a small town located in northern Michigan. I grew up on a farm where I was told that my fate was to run the family farm since I was an only child. Instead I proved to my family that there was a different destiny for me and I went to school for interior decorating. I graduated top of my class and with honors.
What you consider your design style to be: Traditional/Modern
What makes your design so unique?: I like to use a lot of colors and patterns to bring out existing quality's that a room already possesses.

Hubba hubba people, ya'll house are just COOL  ! I could tell that its day and its night, and ya'll's room is just purely decorated :anime: !

I'm gonna faint, everyone's room and the furniture is just wow

20th Aug 2007, 2:19 AM
I have finished mine here (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=990626&postcount=145)

20th Aug 2007, 4:10 AM
Night Room

Rather than using black I decided to use a warm brown so it gave it still a welcoming feeling rather than a harsh one.
So since the wallpaper is a brown I decided to basically keep it brown and I set up the room to make the bar area more the focus of the room.

Day Room

Keep it light, keep it bright, keep it gay! That was my motto for this room, I surely kept it bright with a fantastic yellow and light wood furniture.
I wanted to give the "Day Room" a beach house kind of feeling so I kept with light wood furniture and aquarium filled with tropical fish.

20th Aug 2007, 4:59 AM
When a famous set of twin actresses bought identical townhouses next door to each other, I was given the difficult task of decorating their houses to suit their very different tastes.

The first sister loves the busy city at night, the thrill of the clubs, seeing cult movies at midnight, and sipping colorful drinks at a high-rise bar. She doesn't love having to deal with the traffic and the throngs of people. So I decorated her living room with all the bright lights, sheer glass, and dark chic of downtown, so she could have it at home.

Aerial shot.

Home theater.

Bar and pool table.

This sister wanted a bright, cheerful room to welcome all her guests in, as well as have quiet time to herself. I used a sunny summer day as my inspiration, with light sky blues and sandy yellows for my colors, waves and suns as deco, and plants for the vivid green life of summertime.

Aerial shot.

Entertainment area.

Reading nook.

Great designs you guys! :thumb:

Just a quick reminder to some of you: Please don't forget to finish your entry before the round is over! :)

For the day I created a very bright space, with very fun furniture.

Another shot (http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/2235/tnd1mg5.jpg)

For the day I created a darker, more abstract space that explores darker colors, but still has a slight fin element.

Thanks bekpek! It looks great! :)

First off, this was a most excellent exercise! To develop the feel and mood for the two rooms, I used an inspiration painting for each room as a springboard for color and texture. Please feel free to click on each picture to access a larger, detailed picture of the room.

The Night Room

Overhead view of the living room

I used Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night Over the Rhone as the inspiration and focal point for this room. This is a large, living space for a couple in their mid-thirties who desired a sleek and chic room where they could relax and entertain in style.

I used Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers as the inspiration for this room. This is a large, airy living space for a young couple who wanted a warm, funky space which took advantage of the stunning view of the bay.

21st Aug 2007, 5:54 AM
CisteCaise - Wonderful entry! You really portrayed the night and day rooms very well! :)

Jonesi - Yes, I just updated your entry. Thanks! :D

magnoliae - Yes it is. Just remember to follow the picture forum rules. You can post 4 pictures, but any more after that have to be links. Depending on how many people have done thier entries, I'm not sure how many I'll eliminate. If I don't get any drop outs (which I probably will eventually), I will probably eliminate up to 4 contestants for each round. Don't worry, you'll do fine! :)

Unfortunately the following people had the lowest scores, therefore will be eliminated:

Mia Roberts
Overall Creativity - 46.5/80pts
Overall Practicality - 14.75/20pts
Overall Execution - 16/20pts
Overall Well use of color - 23.5/40pts
Overall Score - 101.5

These rooms were okay, I felt like there could have been a lot more done with them- something to make them more unique. I also noticed there didn't seem to be any lights in either room.

The rooms you used have a nice shape. However, I think both are too dark, maybe you should pay more attention to lighting next time. Also, the rooms are quite "empty", a few pictures on the walls and some plants can do wonders!

I thought your rooms were a little dull in color in the 'day' picture and quite bare. I think there could've been more furniture and other accessories in there. It looked as if it was just thrown together real quickly. It was a good try though! :hmm:

The primary issue is that the rooms you chose are on the smaller side and somewhat oddly shaped, which didn’t seem to leave you much room to create.

Henry Graham
Overall Creativity - 58/80pts
Overall Practicality - 15.75/20pts
Overall Execution - 17.5/20pts
Overall Well use of color - 28.25/40pts
Overall Score - 119.5

Your colors and decorations went along very nicely with the themes, however both rooms somehow still felt a little empty.

Your day room looks really nice, another “beachy” room here. But you used too much black for the night room, I think. Also, both rooms are a too empty. Try to use more decorations next time, or make the room smaller.

Your 'day' colors were good, but I thought the room could've used more furnishings and accessories. I thought the 'night' picture was too dark. Too much black was being used instead of having more warm tones in there.

Your in-room shots are fantastic, but your aerials reveal both rooms are a bit under-furnished.

We are very sorry to see you both go! :(

:gjob: The Top 3 Winners :gjob:

:3rd Olivia Ford- 147.75

:2nd Aida-Lynn Thomas - 151.5

:1st Cherry Roberts - 153

Congrats to you all! :D

Eloise Dean
Overall Creativity - 68/80
Overall Practicality - 18/20
Overall Execution - 17.75/20
Overall Well use of color - 32/40
Overall Score - 135.75

I really like how the rooms are spacious and open, the colors blend together wonderfully and I thought the little plant area in the day room help set that relaxing mood. Good job

I like the colors and furniture you used for the day room a lot, it looks very relaxed that way. I found the nightroom a little too cluttered and mixed, but that's just my taste, I guess. All in all a good job, but maybe you could choose a smaller room next time, that makes it easier ...

The 'day' room felt real nice and airy. I thought the colors looked good together, although I felt it looked a bit bare. The 'night' seemed more filled than the 'day' room. I do not like the wall color of the 'night' room though. It didn't really look like a living room to me.

Your night room is smashing, great choice of wall color and the overall atmosphere is great.

Manji Mah
Overall Creativity - 63/80
Overall Practicality - 17/20
Overall Execution - 18/20
Overall Well use of color - 26.5/40
Overall Score - 124.5

Nice job on both tasks.

Because of the big windows the night room does not really look like a night room. Also, there's too much brown in it, maybe a few accents in any bright color would have looked better. The yellow in your day room is very cheerful, and this one is also nice because of the furniture. I love the aquarium!

The color walls were nice, although the rooms were a little too empty. I thought more could've been put into it.

The yellow in your day room is very cheerful, and this one is also nice because of the furniture. I love the aquarium!

While I really like how you chose to use colors that weren't the typical norm, it seemed as though both rooms were a little too much of one color. I also thought the focal point being the bar area in the night room was a very nice change opposed to the seating area. Nice job!

Juliette Hunt
Overall Creativity - 73/80
Overall Practicality - 18/20
Overall Execution - 19/20
Overall Well use of color - 33.5/40
Overall Score - 143.5

I can honestly picture myself living in these rooms! They have such a nice modern and "airy" quality to them and I really liked how you managed to make both rooms look very chic yet hold a bit of unique personality to it. Great work! :D

I love the airy feel of your day room! Also, you used clutter in a good way here. Same goes for the night room, I love the decoration you picked here. Great job!

I thought the 'day' pic was too white, but the 'night' pic looks great! :)

You have a great eclectic style that’s very eye-catching.

24th Aug 2007, 5:11 PM

I thought there was a little too much wood in your 'night' picture and in your 'day' picture I felt that there needed to be more color.

Very creative selections!

The night room is very unusual, extra creativity points from me! I like the different style you mixed here. But please try to post a bigger aerial next time The day room is really nice with the white, but you could have used a little more green to spice it up. Also, this room is quite big, not too practical for our Simmies.

I thought the barn idea was really creative and out of the ordinary. While some of the 'night' colors seemed a bit bright to me, the 'day' colors blended very evenly. Also your top view of the night room was a bit small and I couldn't see the details as clearly. Lovely work!

The 'night' room is too dark and doesn't look like a living room. It looks more like a night club to me.

I really like how you added a bit of background info to the rooms, it added to the personality. I thought the night room was a little much while the colors of the day room blended beautifully together. Very nice entry overall.

Your rooms are interesting! However, the night room does not look like a living room to me, more like a nightclub. I like the colors you chose for the day room, they make it look "beachy". However, I think you could have made better use of space here.

Your night room is super-fun and eye-catching. The day room could have used a little more of that same drama and visual interest.

Your rooms were really good! They both portray 'day' and 'night' very well!

Fantastic selections overall...very funky, stylish and liveable.

Your rooms are great, you made a good use of colors (even when black and white are no colors :P I also like the furniture you selected. However, I think you could have "filled" the rooms better, maybe you choose a smaller room next time?!

I really like the tones you set for each room and the colors you chose to offset contrasted nicely. :)

Both rooms are gorgeous! I loved the tall windows and earthy and light tones that you used! Excellent job! :)

Very luxurious rooms! Your night one has to be my favorite of the two, and the mood is portrayed wonderfully. :)

Your rooms are very classical and elegant, looks great! Also, you made a quite good use of space. However, I think the rooms are a little too monochromatic, maybe you could use some accent colors next time.

A super-chic, high-drama entry, very memorable rooms.

What a great entry; super-fun and totally fearless.

Wow! The high night room is fabulous! The day room looks great as well, cozy and funky. Great job!

What I liked most about both your rooms was that they gave off a very artistic and unusual vibe. Your colors complemented each other nicely. However your night seemed to be a bit more of an art studio than a living room. Great job nonetheless!

Your 'night' picture has way too much black in it and your 'day' picture looks a bit too busy with all those colors in there, but it definitely portrays night and day well! :anime:

How you were able to find so many colors to blend that well just astounds me. There's so much more to both these rooms than just the decorations and there was loads of unique character present throughout earning you a perfect score from me. :D Great job!

I really like your furniture and the decorations you used. But I have the feel that the night room has too much black in it, and the day room too much yellow. Again, this is probably just my personal opinion. Also, I don’t think it would be wise to place candles directly on a wooden floor. ;)

Personal, realistic, funky....fabulous rooms.

This is a really engaging entry....funky and intriguing, and a little creepy, which makes it memorable. Love the night room.

Your 'night' picture was a little too dark and I felt that the colors didn't really compliment each other. Your 'day' picture was bright and fun though! :)

I love the furniture and colors you used for the day room. However, the walls could have used a lighter color, all in all the room is too dark for a day room. The night room is nice, but your pictures were a little too dark, so I could not see the details.

While the furniture for the day room was brightly colored, I felt it was a bit overwhelmed by the dark red wall color as well as a couple pieces of dark furniture. I could easily picture a young person with modern taste living in the night room, and i thought that theme was kept consistent. One thing that did kind of bother me though, were the dog signs inside :P Good job though!

Very nicely done! I especially like the colors you chose for the night room. Both rooms share a mellow ambiance and the decor is consistent. :)

Your colors worked well together and both pictures represents 'night' and 'day' very well.

Wow, what a gigantic day room. I like the furniture you used here, but in general the room is a bit too empty and not very inviting. You did a wonderful job on the night room though, it’s cozy and simply wonderful.

This is a really solid entry and you made some great choices.

I loved the pictures you had in both living rooms to help portray both themes. The colors work well with each other beautifully.

You chose a huge space and did wonders with it, you have a fabulous eye for color.

I love the artwork you have chosen for the night room. But the room itself is a bit depressive because of the dark blue and the black. I like the bright oranges you used for the day room though, it looks really nice! However, both of your rooms need more objects to be full, or just use smaller rooms next time.

I thought the use of the paintings was a really creative idea and the whole of both rooms show it! Very nicely done all the way around!

Very nice entry. Although I couldn't help but notice in the day room the fireplace, walls and rug looked to be the same color and texture, making me feel as if Im looking at the same thing. I felt your night room held a very classy elegance to it.

Awesome! Your rooms look classy, yet comfortable. You made a great use of color and space, nothing is over the top, everything’s well balanced. Great job!

The colors in the night picture were too matchy. The day picture was cute, but a little plain.

Nice job, both rooms need a little more interest and focal points.

First of all, please try to avoid visible “pause” screens next time. Your night room is nice, but too grey in my eyes. Splashes of color would look wonderful here. I like the stuff you selected for the day room, but I feel that you mixed too mayn different stayles here.

I really loved the 'light' feeling your day room gave off, however your night room felt a little overwhelmed by mostly one color.

Your day room has a very crisp and clean feeling to it and your night room gave of an overall feeling of relaxation. Well done!

The day room looks very inviting with its turquoise walls. However, maybe you should have reflected that color more in the furniture you used. I love the lighting of the night room, also the furniture and colors are great here. The only thing that is not that good here is the bright red disc player.

A solid entry, your night room is chic. Both very practical spaces, nice selections.

Well-done rooms that need a little bit of editing.

I like the furniture you selected for the day room, but there are too many dark colors in here. The night room was nice, but maybe you should make the pictures a bit lighter next time.

And thank you for posting explanations !

What is a den ? Is it like a bedroom ?

And thank you for posting explanations !

A den is like a family room. There's usually a den downstairs, which is seperate than a living room. You'll see a ten den in most newer homes in California. Teen dens are usually upstairs right when you first walk upstairs. I'll try to find a picture of one for you.

EDIT: Ok well, I couldn't find a picture, but a teen den is basically a room for teens where they can hang out and have fun. Usually you'll see the following in a teen den: a computer desk, a pool table, bookshelves, entertainment area with a tv, video games, couches, chairs, movie and/or music posters, etc. Just try to make it teen friendly.

A boudoir for teen ?

should it have a bed ? Or a day bed ??

24th Aug 2007, 6:40 PM
Here's a floorplan. And I found some pictures. Maybe this'll help? http://www.poohcornervilla.com/layout.jpg

I'll go in game and creat one so that everyone can get a general idea of what its suppose to look like.

EDIT: There's no beds in this room. Nobody sleeps in there.

24th Aug 2007, 6:42 PM
So is it like a gaming room?

24th Aug 2007, 7:00 PM
Games can be in the room along with other things that entertain teens.

EDIT: Ok, here's an example of what a teen den looks like. It's not my best, but it's just enough to show you. Of course, I would like to see more things in your den than mine.

What was your inspiration for this design?
My inspiration for this design was the modern day teenage boy who is mature and desires respect from his parents and even his peers such as the basket ball team or even the chess team.

Why do you think parents and teens would want this design in their home? I think parents and teens would want this design in their home because no matter what age the teen boy is whether 12 or 18 they could enjoy this room doing homework in, browsing the web, or playing xbox 360. Plus I think it would be very easy for the parents to transform this room into a place of their own when all the kids are gone.

I decided to match the green walls with a green couch and then I decided to put in 2 white chairs. I also threw in a decent size flat screen tv on the wall and a Xbox 360.

I decided to put a couple pieces of comic art of Sin City that I believe really goes well with the room.
I put a in-wall aquarium because I think it just makes the room more mature looking for that teenage boy who screams respect.

Congratulations! :D Now I know to never add up the scores before having my morning coffee!! :anime: Go check out your scores to see if yours has changed!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and one thing I forgot to mention when I posted round 2...Please post the full entry in one post! If you submit some of your entry and then come back later with the rest of it, please do not post it in a seperate post! Thank you! :)

What was your inspiration for this design?:
I almost never know where my inspiration comes from. I was asked to create a teen den. I sat down at my drawing board and out flowed what you see here.

Why do you think parents and teens would want this design in their home?:
This room has just about everything a teen could want in a playroom plus the beauty and style that parents will enjoy sharing with their friends. I think it’s colorful, functional, and classy. It deliberately does not contain a desk and computer, because it is a recreation room. In my opinion, desks and computers belong elsewhere. However, there is plenty of space to add a small desk should that be desired.

25th Aug 2007, 3:13 PM
Wow it looks great, Redwing! :D

25th Aug 2007, 6:40 PM
What was your inspiration for this design?:
If you notice from the aerial view, the room has two sections...each with its own inspiration. For the left side, I found this wonderful rug and I began to think how could I make that 'teen friendly.' And for the other side I found the deep purple chaise that I knew I had to fit in the room in some way.Soo....I thought back to my teen years and remembered what mattered most whether I was by myself or with my friends...and that was a great place to sit around and talk and entertainment.

Why do you think parents and teens would want this design in their home?:
Teens will love this room because it is so 'alive.' I don't think I left a dull space in this room. Teens like to talk...laugh...horseplay....and there's room for all of that....just push back those chairs and sofa....move that separator screen out of the way and you have a great social environment. For the parents, you will not have to worry about those wild kids breaking anything in this room. All of the pieces in this room are "child-proof" :-) ...except the mirror, and most teens stay in the mirror too much to even think about shattering this wonderful piece. Oh, this room is great for girls and guys....no segregation of genders here....plus....where there are guys...there will definetely be girls.

Soo....have a looksie....

25th Aug 2007, 7:11 PM
What was your inspiration for this design?

I inspired myself with this room. I created the room I would have liked to have had as a teenage girl. It is not too pink and fluffy but there are inklings of that in this room. It feels quite an adult room with the use of white as the main colour and bright colours to accent this.

Why do you think parents and teens would want this design in their home?

Parents can understand that teens need their own space and this is a mature and chilled out space for them. It is somewhere that they can chill with friends, get ready for a night out and also do their homework. Teens love it for all those reasons too. The design of the room is not for a little girl at all it is for someone that can appreciate design and I think whoever has this room will have some very jealous friends!

Picture one: TV area where teens can chat and watch the latest shows:

Picture two: Computer area where homework can be done (yeah right!)

Picture three: Getting ready for a night out:

Overview of the room: notice the screen dividing the TV area to make it seem cosy and apart from the rest of the room:

Thanks for looking!

What was your inspiration for this room?
I wanted a room that was funky and fun, like a teenager, but that also could be enjoyed by the entire family. A space like a den should have something for everyone--even though more than likely the parents hope that the teens stay down there and give them some peace and quiet!

Why do you think parents and teens would want this design in their home?

For the teens:
The colors are bold, bright, and contemporary. The vinyl wallpaper gives the whole wall an interesting texture--this isn't the boring paneled den of the past. All of the wallhangings and deco pieces were chosen carefully. There are picture frames and bulletin boards for the kids to make the room their own, and posters and wallhangings straight from popular movies and video games. There are tons of things to do, places for friends to hang out and crash, and a snack bar so you don't even have to leave for food!

For the parents:
The entire den is set off from the rest of the house, but connected to the back patio and garage, so if there's a party or band practice, the kids can come straight to or leave straight from the den. This will keep the noise self-contained, so they can't disturb you! While the furniture is fun and modern, it's also easy to clean and hard to break. There aren't tons of knick-knacks for that reason. All the lighting is secured to the ceiling or the wall, and made of plastic, so it's sturdy. Finally the attractive flooring and walls? Vinyl and laminate, easy to clean up while looking classy.

Aerial shot. You can see that the entertainment center is sectioned off, and the snackbar is tucked underneath the stairs, for maximum floorspace.

I chose the Christmas lights to add a fun, bright glow to the room--besides, it's the decorating choice of college dorm rooms everywhere, teens love them! Since there will be food and drinks down here, I made sure to add plenty of table space.

The futon is tucked further away from the television, so it can be used for seating in a pinch, but is kept cleaner...so if friends want to stay the night, all that needs to be done is fold the mattress down and rearrange some pillows.

I had a lovely large room to work with, so there was room for both a foosball table and a pool table. After all, even the Wii can get old after awhile. I managed to get ahold of a little fountain drink dispenser, and that made the perfect addition to the minibar.
