Project Domination 2.0

You open up an envelope that simply had PD 2.0 in big red letters on the front of it. Curious, you open it up to see what's inside. It reads the following:

If you are reading this now, this means that you are interested in participating in Project Domination 2.0 (or we've screwed up and mailed the wrong person). After the success of Project Domination 1.0, the collaboration of the SSEO (Sim Space Exploration Organization) and SASC (Sim Agricultural Science Corporation) have decided to create another Project Domination. We hope to have another successful program like last time.

For those who are unfamiliar with this project, Project Domination is an expensive and very controversial project that was once a well-kept secret but is now talked about in every sim’s home. A selected amount of people are chosen to create their own planet and race, with the supplies and tools all provided by us, the SSEO and SASC. They may have had to sell their house or give away their child’s college fund, but this is an once-in-a-lifetime chance that not everyone is able to have. Unlike Project Domination 1.0, no one will be eliminated this time. The winner will just have full access to their planet and regular civilians will be able to travel to the winning planet (if habitable by humans). The “losing” planets will be freeze-dried and used for our future experiments. So, will you join Project Domination 2.0?

• No one will be eliminated. I want everyone to have a chance to do each round and have a fair chance of winning.
• This contest will require a lot of story-telling. Don’t be discouraged though! This could be a great contest to practice your skills.
• Please only enter if you can spare some of your time to this contest. I’m not asking you to make this contest your life but don’t enter if you know you won’t be able to commit.
• Please PM me if you’re going to drop out. If you lost interest, real life gets in the way, or a certain round is too challenging for you, just tell me and I’ll understand. It’s much better to tell me than to have me waiting for an entry that’ll never come.
• Photoshop is not required but is allowed and encouraged to broaden your creativity.
• Remember, the S2C and Picture-Taking rules apply!
• Be nice to everyone! This is all in fun. I don’t want anyone to feel bad or less accepted for any reason.
• Creativity is a MUST and have fun!

(Please provide a sim picture if possible to make the contest more relaxed)

If you want to be a judge, you must have had at least judged/judging two contests. Also, please try to be on regularly. There’s nothing worse than waiting for one last judge who never comes back online, so if you’re not going to be on for a while, you come on occasionally, or you know work/school will get in your way, being a judge will not work for you. You must also be able to send in scores within 24 hours after a round is over plus you will need to add comments with your scores.

Also, only kind and constructive criticism will be allowed from the judges. There will be no mean or hurtful comments sent to the contestants, me, or the judges themselves.

-Application Template-

Why do you want to participate in Project Domination 2.0?
We at the SSEO and SASC are not concerned about your beauty, but your ability to produce a quality planet. :)

20th Aug 2007, 3:05 AM
I have a couple of questions. 1. How many pictures would we generally need to take, and 2. Photoshop needed?

20th Aug 2007, 3:07 AM
Hmmm, might have a go. Need some sleep first, but if there's still space in the morning, and if I get a chance to open the Sims, I'll join.

Where it says 'Country of Origin', doe it mean a real place or a made-up Sim place?

20th Aug 2007, 3:12 AM
Twilight: It really depends on each round. The minimum is aroudn 6-10 pics. I know it may seem like a lot but once you see the rounds, you'll understand why there's so many. :)

From the rules:

-Photoshop is not required but is allowed and encouraged to broaden your creativity.

Silent: Country of Origin can be real or made up.

20th Aug 2007, 3:22 AM
I would join, but I just dunno if I have the time. I'll think about it, maybe cut down on some other habits. (God knows I need to anyways.) If I don't join you can count on one useless lurker.

20th Aug 2007, 3:25 AM
LOL Gotta love the lurkers. ;)

20th Aug 2007, 2:06 PM
All I need is 1 more judge and 2 more EJs.

Come one people, enter! :howdy:

20th Aug 2007, 8:02 PM
Eh, what the heck, I can give it a shot. If I fail, well, too bad. I don't even have to make a new sim,

Why do you want to participate in Project Domination 2.0? Because I know how to control the public, without using force, and I know how to use that power in a way that they do not acknowladge. Plus, I rock at managing stuff. Where did I get all these skills? I work for the media.

20th Aug 2007, 8:12 PM
Olive is sending subliminal messages to everyone who is thinking of joining. X3

20th Aug 2007, 8:17 PM
LOL Dalton, things are probably just moving slow since some people just went back to school. Great entry Twilight! :)

20th Aug 2007, 8:20 PM
Give me a couple of days and I will definately join. I need to get my workload out the way first though, but the deadline's the 22nd for my assignments, so I'll be free after that.

21st Aug 2007, 12:06 AM
Yay! Yay! It's starting again! I had so much fun last time, I'll definently join.
Well, here goes nothing. Just complain if you want me to change something;)

Why do you want to participate in Project Domination 2.0? I've always wanted to create my own civilization and government, but the chance of me being able to do that in real life is probably less that 0,00001%, why not create an imaginary one?

21st Aug 2007, 12:13 AM
Yay Sizza, I was hoping you would. Can't wait to see your lovely entry! :)

EDIT: She's cute Sizza. Glad to have ya on board! :)

why do you want to participate in project domination 2.0?
I've never been able to show my intelligence that I possess in an important task before, because of my personal life. But this is something I would like to dedicate myself to. I'm an active spokesperson against destroying the environment but I also work as a model for a brand of clothing; for "alternative" lifestyles.

I am not smoking, I used to, but I stopped. This is a health-cigarette, it clears your air-ways with herbs.

Why do you want to participate in Project Domination 2.0?: I've gotten well concerned with environmental whatnots, being that my country's been really, really industrial ever since that big war two hundred years ago. So I wanna make something that's both an enormous nature reserve and something... I got no words for. I lost my job at the Environmental Dome 'cause apparently it wanted knocking down, so I got nowt to lose.

Plants die outdoors here, and only live well indoors if you got proper stuff for it. Let's say I nicked a few things when the Dome got knocked down...

Hope that's alright, if there's any issues let me know and I'll fix it :)

21st Aug 2007, 1:48 PM
Spudjuice: He's cute! Nice pics. :)

I've updated the list.

Why do you want to participate in Project Domination 2.0?: Well, to be honest because it's a challenge. I've been getting a little bored lately, this is just what I need to take up my time now that I've graduated from University. Plus I've been told I'm too... different for this world, from my now thankfully ex-housemate, so what the hell I might as well make a new one.;)

23rd Aug 2007, 11:16 PM
Great entry Silent!

I don't know if I'm going to be able to continue this contest since there's only 5 entries and we need 10 entries to continue this contest. Judging by the lack of popularity this contest has, it's probably not going to happen. Plus, I completely forgot that I was going on vacation from Friday till Sunday, so I'm going to have to close this round tomorrow.

I hate doing this since I always hated when people enter contests and drop out because they're going on vacation, but it completely slipped my mind. I'll just tell bP to close this contest by tomorrow if we don't get 5 more people. Thanks for the enthusiam that you guys put into this contest, but I just don't think we're going to be able to run a contest with just 5 contestants. Sorry guys. :(

24th Aug 2007, 12:02 AM
Aw man~ I've even been working on an alien skintone I hoped to use later. Oh well, if there's a lack of interest there's a lack of interest. Hope you feel up to trying it again at some other point though, I guess this is a pretty busy time of year for everyone so don't worry :)

24th Aug 2007, 12:20 AM
Aww. :( Why don't keep the Application open during Round 1? That way we can start working on our Round 1 while you're on holiday, which will attract more attention so more people might get interested.

24th Aug 2007, 1:29 AM
I could do that but I always disliked contests who did that since that held up upcoming contests. I think I'll do that anyways and close it when I get back.

24th Aug 2007, 1:36 AM
Come on and join, all you lurkers!

24th Aug 2007, 1:37 AM
Man, I really hope we got enough applications to continue. It would suck if it couldn't continue. I don't get why so few seem interested:cry:

24th Aug 2007, 1:38 AM
I really do hope we get more people too. I mean, who doesn't like a good alien storytelling contest? LOL

24th Aug 2007, 1:40 AM
happy, I'd join if my schedule allowed..these apps are so creative, I'd love to see this continue

(I added to my sig)

24th Aug 2007, 1:47 AM
I'd join, but the mere thought of joining this scares the hell out of me. I'll just watch. :D

24th Aug 2007, 1:55 AM
I'll add this to my siggy as well! I hope more people join.

24th Aug 2007, 6:53 AM
I'm very disappointed this contest may have to be aborted. It's a very unusual contest for S2C...I wish more of us were interested in giving it a go. It sounds like so much fun. I can highly recommend HCL as a very conscientious and reliable host. C'mon, guys and gals, give it a shot. Please.

24th Aug 2007, 9:46 AM
Ohh, I also hope more will join :D I've put the link my siggy a few day ago already.
HCL, you've forgot to upload my picture to the first post ;)

24th Aug 2007, 12:03 PM
Added your pic Gerbera. ;)

Thanks guys for the support you all are showing for this contest, I really do appreciate it. :) Hopefully, when I get back on the 26th, there'll be more entries.

24th Aug 2007, 12:07 PM
Aw, I wish more people would join!! :(
Olive will give free kisses to those who join.

24th Aug 2007, 5:22 PM
Oh really? Count me in then!! Oh wait....I am already. Right.

Anyways. You loserfaces hanging on the sidelines should join! There's at least one person you can beat...me! So stop lurking and join already.

24th Aug 2007, 9:47 PM
Oh I wish I could join now, but I'm already involved in so much already. :hmm: I'll tell people about it.

25th Aug 2007, 12:19 AM
Aw, Stormy, you sure? It's really fun!

25th Aug 2007, 4:34 PM
In case we don't get 10 people, am I the only one who doesn't mind continuing with five? It will be all nice and cosy, and if I remember the minimum is 4 anyway. As long as it goes ahead, I'll be happy. Anyone else agree?

EDIT: Wait, nevermind. Just reread the rules.

25th Aug 2007, 4:39 PM
hmm I might join... I haven't done a contest before though :anime: I don't want to embarrass myself! I guess there's no harm in trying, so I'll be back with my entry by tonight

25th Aug 2007, 4:44 PM

25th Aug 2007, 6:33 PM

25th Aug 2007, 10:59 PM
The more the better, Toffee! Trust me, contests look difficult at first, but you learn so much. Everyone's been there, so no one is going to be mean.:)

So that means we're up to 8. Two more to go! Although we might be able to get by on this, but it's all up to happycowlover

Well here in Valactia, there is so little to do. We tend to harvest “Placema Orbans” which are little gooey substance which are found in the place of Un-harvested “Mantle Skin” we won’t go there, and I felt it was time to break out of the cast and create a new one

Lovely entry Danny!

Applications are now closed! There's no eliminations (obviously!) and no judging for the apps, since I realized you can't really show that much creativity in your apps. I'll post Round 1 in a min.

Round 1-Geographical Features

Welcome to Project Domination 2.0. We hope you have a great time participating in this wonderful project. Okay, on to Round 1.

This round is about the geographical part of your planet. This is probably the most important and longest part of planning for your planet. Without it, your created race would not have any place to live.

-1 or 2 pictures of the planet as a whole ie like the Globe of Earth.
-1 or 2 pictures of each continent/major section on your planet
-1 or 2 pictures of a major geographical feature ie a desert, ocean, mountains, ect.
-1 freeshot in any of these sections (optional)

You must have descriptions for each picture. You will also need to answer these questions:

What is the name of your planet?
What type of climate does it have?
What is the overall land like on the planet (rocky, forest-like, aqautic)?
Are humans able to live on the planet?
Any other questions you may feel you need to answer.

-Photoshop is allowed and encouraged

-Your species should not appear in any of the pictures

-The minimum pictures for this round depend on how many continents are on your planet. There is no minimum for continents but I’d prefer no more than 8 continents so there won’t be so much to judge.

-No text on the pictures please

-Your descriptions on for each picture do not have to resemble a novel but there should be no one-liners. The descriptions should be meaningful and descriptive. Remember, quality over quantity!

-Feel free to ask me, the judges, or any of the other contestants questions about the round or WCIF content for the round

This round ends on August 31 at 8:00 PM EST. I hope you all enjoy your first round. Go wild with creativity; the sky’s the limit! Good luck and have fun!

27th Aug 2007, 2:44 AM
Yay! HUZZAH! The contest will go on. :jig:
Anyway, I decided (just for fun), to make some avarts. Beware, they're pretty crappy though, none in the same size or anything(as you can see)
I did try my best though...

Sizza these avatars are amazing! Thank you so much I know I will use it. :cdance:

27th Aug 2007, 2:47 AM
Thanks a bunch Sizza! They look great to me. :)

I hope you guys enjoy Round 1. Can't wait to see your entries!

27th Aug 2007, 2:52 AM
They look great, Sizza! But I'm just going to stick to my avi. Kurt Cobain is hot. :P

happycowlover, I'm a bit confused as to how to do these pictures, so I'm going to wait til a couple of contestants submit theirs first to see what I have to do.

27th Aug 2007, 2:57 AM
What are you confused by Stormy? Maybe I can help.

27th Aug 2007, 3:08 AM
Uhm...Well I'm not really sure how I would show the planet, a geographical feature, and the continents of the planet. I'm kinda new to photoshop so I don't know how to go about doing all that. :err:

27th Aug 2007, 3:09 AM
Sizza: Many thanks for the super avatar.

HCL: Round 1 sounds fantastic. I look forward to jumping into doing it.

27th Aug 2007, 3:18 AM
I'm very glad you like them:)
Too bad they deleted the old contests. They would've been great as a reference

27th Aug 2007, 3:19 AM
That's what I was looking for, but I noticed they had deleted them. :hmm:

27th Aug 2007, 3:26 AM
I know I'm no help, but in last cycle I built all the landscape in-game(with crap-load of CC, of course)

27th Aug 2007, 3:33 AM
I wished they did keep the old contests too. :(

For the whole planet, you could use an existing planet (like Mars or Neptune) and edited it maybe. For the rest of the stuff, you could just build it in game like last cycle.

27th Aug 2007, 3:45 AM
Yeah the only thing I was really worried about what making the actual planet and continents. Do I just find pictures off of Google or something and do something with it? How would I edit them?

27th Aug 2007, 3:57 AM
I'm guessing you mean for the globe. Maybe you could use Paint and create a cartoonish version of the planet.

27th Aug 2007, 3:59 AM
Ohh! I'm such an idiot! Thanks happycowlover! :)

27th Aug 2007, 4:01 AM
LOL You're not an idoit. Just a person who asks lots of questions. :anime: Just kidding!

27th Aug 2007, 4:04 AM
 Yeah I know. :P

27th Aug 2007, 5:05 AM
Hmm... do both pictures of the planet as a whole have to be globes or can one be a world map of some sort? :)

Man, I wish I could find the CC I want. The only thing similar to what I'm after is way too cartoony and... it appears to be reflective, which is just silly for any kind of plant! D: I could try to make it myself but meshing powers are not one of my skills - I've never completed a mesh. I guess I'll just have to do that part of it in miniature, since I have the CC for a mini version. Shame, I wanted it to be a major geographical feature... because (though I'm not telling you what it is) my character is a total dork and so would be very, very tempted to do this to his planet XD

27th Aug 2007, 5:21 AM
I never thought about maps. That's definately a good idea!

27th Aug 2007, 5:31 AM
In which case would we be allowed to use text, like your typical compass-in-the-corner and labelling of certain geographic features (exclusively on the map, of course, for authenticity more than description), or should we just leave it off and focus on the shapes and stuff? Or use gibberish/simlish for the labels XD

The Planet

From a Long Distance

Caption: Drearsheen is as old as the oldest planets but was not discovered by Earth people until yours truly got lucky one night. More, perhaps, about that later. From a great distance it appears to be translucent and looks very much like many other planets.

Through the Highest-Powered Telescope

Caption: But when one comes nearer, one sees that it is not like other planets, in appearance anyway. Drearsheen is completely surrounded by a giant scrim of sorts. A scrim that reveals what lies beneath it only when what is beneath it so desires. The vision on the scrim may undergo subtle changes but always depicts a dichotomy.

The Continents

Caption: Alesia, one of Drearsheen’s two continents, lies near its apex. As pictured here, one can see it looks more like an island than a continent, but it is 2663 miles across and 2336 miles from its northernmost point to its southern tip.

Caption: This is a map of Pfingol, which spreads around the center of Drearsheen and exactly divides it into northern and southern hemispheres. Color key: Blue…Menedrawer. Red…Pall’s Vestries. Lilac…Hyckhoven. Yellow…Pfin.

Geographical Features

The Three Sisters

Caption: The Three Sisters are located in Alesia. There are many stories exploring their significance, but a single definitive explanation is lacking.

Granlite Bay

Caption: One of Drearsheen’s most beautiful spots is Granlite Bay, on the western coast of Pfingol. As the natives sing, with much gratitude to Edward Madden and Percy Weinrich, “We were sailing along on Granlite Bay. We could hear the voices ringing, They seemed to say, ‘You have stolen her heart, Now don't go 'way.’ As we sang love's old sweet song on Granlite Bay.”

Free Shot: Flickette Pond

Caption: One of Drearsheen’s most sacred memorials is embraced by Flickette Pond, located in Hyckhoven. The Pond’s keepers never leave their post.

What is the name of your planet?: Drearsheen

What type of climate does it have?: Drearsheen has much the same climatic zones as Earth, and temperatures and precipitation include all that is found on Earth. And then some.

What is the overall land like on the planet?: Again, a visitor will see very little in the way of land features that will seem unusual. There are mountains, forests, jungles, seas, lakes, deserts….

Are humans able to live on the planet?: If they are equipped to handle the various atmospheres, humans can not only live but thrive.

27th Aug 2007, 7:22 AM
For all of you who do not have the money to afford photoshop and need a good but simple free graphics program, I really like GIMP. It is downloadable for free, and I use it all the time. It's not too difficult to handle and there are lots of great tutorials and brushes for it at deviantart.
If you need any more information about it, just PM me :)

27th Aug 2007, 8:26 AM
HCL: I wasn't in the first Domination contest and so have very little idea what's coming. A couple questions:

Please see post #93: Is that picture appropriate as a Continent picture, assuming it is representative of that entire major section? Or can it be used only as a geographical feature?

In later rounds will we be asked to show our planet's species in the "sets" we are creating in this round?

Thanks for your help.

27th Aug 2007, 2:03 PM
Spud: Since I never thought about using maps, I said no text but I guess you can use it on maps only.

redwing: For the whole contenient, maybe a bird's eye view or a human's eye view (though the bird's eye view would be better IMO) would better represent the contenient as a whole. Your picture is great though it would probably be more of a geographical feature than a representation of the contenient.

If you mean by continent, then I was questioning that. Think about it, wouldn't that be alot of pictures? I don't think you guys would want to show each different species on each contenient, so I'd advise you guys to only have like 1 or 2 species to save on the many pictures. You guys will understand why when Round 2 is up. I hope that all makes sense. :) God I wish they had saved the old contests!

27th Aug 2007, 7:38 PM
I dunno if this has been asked before...and it's a rather noob-like (to use my brothers favorite word) one, but must they be entirely sim content in our pictures?

27th Aug 2007, 9:36 PM
Of course not, Photoshop is allowed. :)

SimsArtThat just PM'ed me some fabulous planet lamps! Here's the link:

27th Aug 2007, 9:45 PM
hint on those lights: cheat them up on OMSP's with magistray's. Place them in night mode so they're lit. You can actually get a great angle including a sim's night sky, stars and all.

I'm so happy this contest is continuing! :D

27th Aug 2007, 10:03 PM
My pics are a meld of Photoshop, Sims, and another game. Hope their okay since I used another games pieces as well.

Before I write up my descriptions, lemme know if I'm cheating. Holy crap their huge....oops. Lemme fix that.

27th Aug 2007, 10:11 PM
Hmm, I don't know about using other games. I think to be fair, just use Photoshop and TS2. I hope you understand. :)

27th Aug 2007, 10:13 PM
'Tis cool.

28th Aug 2007, 12:34 AM
*sound of metal being hit*
Is this thing working again? The green light came back on finally.
Well, anyway, if it is then that's great, if not than it's not.

This is Anji Kazuku, reporting from this planet I found out in the middle of an empty solar system. Aside from a sun, three moons and this place I have found nothing else.
I just got back here and have been working extensively to repair my ship for the last week or so on my own. At least by my own clock and counting the sun rises and settings. There were others with me, but none survived the crash.
But, anyway, I guess if this is working I'd best tell this tale in case this fixer-upper doesn't get fixed.

From what I've seen and heard here, which I'll explain later, trust me, this place is called Juturna*.
I was able to snap a few bird's-eye shots on the way here and thankfully my camera was spared so I was able to get pictures once here as well.
One side of the planet has three continents while the opposite has only islands.
From what I've seen this planet has a temperate climate where I am, though a few hours south it expands into a rainforest and to the north are mountains. There is a south pole of sorts, though it's a much smaller island than our own.
I landed right where those islands are in the third picture.

Humans are, obviously, able to survive here, unless I've died and am a ghost or something.
*sound of slapping*
I feel real enough. And that hurt...
So, I guess I'm not dead.

From what I've seen the planet has a terrain much like Earth. Grass - though here it's gray -, dirt, trees, flowers, everything.
There are oceans, but no lakes. All the land masses, whether continent or island, seem to alternate between fields, forests and mountains.

I've only been on part of this continent, but all the others look the same from space save for the pole - which appears to be just a frozen desert. Which reminds, they don't have those either.

Maybe it's just better if I show you.

I would have better pictures, but the crash corrupted some files and some pictures I just couldn't take before everything happened.
This is the trench you can see on the bird's eye shot. It's most likely the deepest one on the planet from the colouring and what I saw as we went over it.

Once I landed I went walking. The first thing I came across was a mountain range. I think this may be at least as tall as Everest.

I turned around then and found a forest.
And a shot from above, just before we crashed.

What is the name of your planet?
What type of climate does it have?
What is the overall land like on the planet (rocky, forest-like, aqautic)?
Are humans able to live on the planet?

* Jue-turn-ah

((Sizza: I love the avatar! If I hadn't just made the one I'm using right now I would use the one you made in a heartbeat.

Picture for planet as whole - Uranus (because it's blue) obtained here. (http://pds.jpl.nasa.gov/planets/images/full/uranus/uranus.jpg)

28th Aug 2007, 10:57 AM
Hi, it's Silva! Well, I've been working really hard on creating my new planet, and here are some of the photos I've taken while I was working. I also did a map of it, but I seem to have misplaced it, so I'll send it to you later.

Oh wait...Here it is!

This is Pern. Yes, I know that name is familiar, I'm a fan of the Dragonriders books. It's a fairly small planet, and I've made it possible for humans to be able to live here. It's split up into three different areas - the continents Amarnia and Daeria, and the small Dragon Isle. Overall, this planet is mainly forest-like, but there are exceptions.

The eastern continent, Daeria, is the largest of the three. So large, I couldn't even fit it into one photo!

The climate here varies from place to place. North Daeria, where you can see Daeri Mountain, is quite cold and snows quite often. The further south you go, after you get to Lake Mahoe, it starts to warm up. The climate for this area is quite temperate.

This is Amarnia, the western continent. Its most distinguishing features are the Great Desert in the south and the Amar Marsh, also known as the Great Marsh, in the north. Around the Desert, the climate is very dry and there is little vegetation. Pretty much like a desert here. However, the Marsh is completely different. It's very humid and contains a variety of vegetation. It sort of seems to be a marsh/jungle hybrid sometimes, because of the the way the plants I brought from Earth have thrived.

And this is the smallest and my personal favourite, Dragon Isle. It's named after both Pern's legacy and the series of spires around the western and northern sides of the island which are called the Dragon's Teeth. I like this area the best because the climate is very similar to that of my home country, Great Britain. The weather varies from snow to brilliant sunshine, and changes often without warning. When it's sunny though, it is absolutely beautiful, and one of the best places to watch the sunrise is the cliffs that cover the southern and eastern area.

Here's a picture of part of the Dragon's Teeth. The full length of the Teeth is too big to fit in one photo.

And here's the cliffs I usually sit on to watch the sun rise over the bay. It's absolutely beautiful!

28th Aug 2007, 3:10 PM
Great entries Axel and Silent! I'll add your entries to the lists.

28th Aug 2007, 5:16 PM

Heheheh, happycow, I just noticed that not only is my Sim's name STILL spelt wrong, but the link to Sizza's Round 1 is actually a link to mine.;)

28th Aug 2007, 6:56 PM
LOL So sorry about that :doh Fixed it.

28th Aug 2007, 7:05 PM
Hey, are we allowed to draw the map or does it have to be a screenshot? Just a bit curious, 'cause I couldn't think how to do a globe as a screenshot XD

28th Aug 2007, 7:10 PM
Yep, you're able to draw it.

28th Aug 2007, 7:29 PM
Great entries SilentPsycho and AlexValentine

28th Aug 2007, 8:28 PM
Oh my gosh! I am way WAY to amateur for this kind of thing! I really don't know how I'm gonna do it, but I'll do my best... when does this round end?

28th Aug 2007, 8:31 PM
Hey don't worry fizzwhizz, it just looks harder than it actually is. You could make the continents the way I did - by covering a rectangle in a lot with water and raising the earth where I wanted my continents to be. After that it was just colouring the terrain with the terrain tool and making up the descriptions.

28th Aug 2007, 8:48 PM
Yeah.. maybe I was a bit over-reactive  Sorry about that!

I do have one question though... for the whole planet shot, if I found one on google, do I need to give a link because it's not my own? Or does it not matter?

(I know kinda stupid question)

28th Aug 2007, 8:52 PM
No problem. I have to admit, my first thought after I read the task was 'Oh bloody hell, what have I let myself in for!' ;)

28th Aug 2007, 8:53 PM
That's what I'm beginning to think...:err:

28th Aug 2007, 10:58 PM
Yep, you need to give a link to it.

It's not that hard guys! :) It's really a lot of fun once you get used to it.

29th Aug 2007, 1:17 AM
If I were to use wallpaper(mural), should I credit the creator?

29th Aug 2007, 2:45 AM
Oh no Sizza. You don't have to credit every single creator that you used.

29th Aug 2007, 3:56 AM
SilentPsycho do you mind if I use your idea of making the continents on a rectangle lot and using water to make a map of my planet?

29th Aug 2007, 5:56 AM
HCL: My Round 1 entry is complete barring later inspiration. Please see post #93.

29th Aug 2007, 2:45 PM
I think your entry is great redwing! I don't see anything bad about it.

29th Aug 2007, 4:56 PM
SilentPsycho do you mind if I use your idea of making the continents on a rectangle lot and using water to make a map of my planet?

Not at all! Go ahead.:D

29th Aug 2007, 9:14 PM
Yeah me too? it's a good idea, I was messing with it last night.. it was quite cool the shapes you can make...

29th Aug 2007, 9:20 PM
Yep, it's free to all! I'm not the kind of person to withhold information to look good. It goes against my future job as a librarian. ;)

And it is cool. Lake Mahoe didn't exist until I noticed that little bit on the side. Reminds me of the map screens from most Final Fantasy games.

30th Aug 2007, 1:09 AM
Yay, two pictures!
*laughs and blushes*
Sorry I'm being so lazy. I should have the others tomorrow.

30th Aug 2007, 1:15 AM
Can I draw the picture of the whole planet(world map) in paint?

30th Aug 2007, 5:39 AM
This contest is definantley challenging, but fun at the same time.

Just want to say everone's entries look great so far!

30th Aug 2007, 12:29 PM
Yep, you can draw the whole map in Paint.

Remember guys, this round ends tomorrow at 10:00 PM EST!

30th Aug 2007, 9:07 PM
Any idea what EST is in relation to GMT? I'm on GMT, myself, and I'm hopeless with timezones D:

30th Aug 2007, 9:10 PM
I think it's 6:00 PM though I'm not sure.

30th Aug 2007, 9:13 PM
Great entries, judging is goint to be fun :D

Spudjuice, EST is GMT+5 as far as I know.

30th Aug 2007, 10:10 PM
Spud, 10pm EST is about 3am the next day for us GMTers.:)

30th Aug 2007, 10:38 PM
I'm sorry happycowlover, but I won't have time to turn in my application. I have too much stuff to do in real life along with finishing up my story update on here. Maybe you'll see me in the next cycle. :) Sorry. :hmm:

30th Aug 2007, 11:47 PM
Well, that sucks. RL does come first. :) See ya next time!

31st Aug 2007, 1:15 AM
Thanks! You'll definitely be seeing me! Although I may stick to judging next time. :err: :D

31st Aug 2007, 1:30 AM
Well, I tried to find out for myself, but EST is used for three seperate timezones, apparently. Are we talking Australian EST, Brazilian EST or North America EST? If it's North America I can relax a bit and know I won't have to rush - I really want to be working on my entry some more, but I just got hit with one hell of a headache and I can't really be doing with staring at the computer screen much longer today :(

31st Aug 2007, 4:19 PM
When does my round 1 have to be in then? I'm er. only half way through... I was hoping to finish it tonight, if I get it done by 8 is that okay? All these timezones are confusing me!

31st Aug 2007, 4:36 PM
Fizzwhizz, it's 3am tomorrow morning for us UK members.

31st Aug 2007, 5:01 PM
Well I live in the US Eastern Timezone and I just want to make sure that is the EST Time we are talking about.

31st Aug 2007, 5:02 PM
As happycow's from the USA, it most likely is.

31st Aug 2007, 5:23 PM
Sorry guys for the timezone confusion. I hate timezones!

Anyways, Round 1 ends in 10 hours at 10:00PM EST. Sizza PM'ed me a timezone thingy, so I'll post it soon.

31st Aug 2007, 5:42 PM
Fizzwhizz, it's 3am tomorrow morning for us UK members.

Thanks Silent... now I can watch Big Brother whilst finishing it then! Final tonight!!

31st Aug 2007, 6:29 PM
Someone asked for an extension and I thought is was needed since we only have like 4 entries, so Round 1 is extended to tomorrow at 10:00 AM EST!

31st Aug 2007, 6:46 PM

This is the planet "Mirthia" seen through a telescope. As you can see the planet is surrounded of one moon and one metorite that circles Mirthia endlessly.

Mirthia is a perfect place for the human race, but can also be behabited by other similar species. The air is based on oxygen which is highly concentrated.

Mirthia has only two continents. "Cyclodonia" is the big one on the right, and "Ikkalia" is the long one on the left. Mirthia is like one big rainforest, without the rain and the heat. It only rains once a year and the other time it's always a pleasant temperature, never too hot and never too cold.
The forest has mutated so it has the capability to survive without water for long periods at a time, like cactuses.

Cyclodonia is the continent that inhabit the wildlife; even though the animal population is high they are very shy so they are not seen if you don't really look for them. Cyclodonia is the perfect spot for farming because of the good earth as the forest should not be disturbed with buildings and roads.

Ikkalia almost doesn't have any forest like nature at all; the continent consists almost of open plains only. There are several underground lakes and is a very good spot to build buildings ans such.

A picture of the rainforest
This picture was taken at night on Cyclodonia. It is a spot just be a small vulcano that has just erupted and the lava is going into the lake. The strange thing is that the fish and animals in the water doesn't seem to be bothered. The lava is not like the lava we have on earth, it does no harm. The lava is just a sign that the planet is alive and well. This lake I shall call "The fountain of life".

31st Aug 2007, 7:13 PM
I finshed my entry.

Sorry it's a book.

1st Sep 2007, 1:50 AM
Hey again, this is Shawn, here with pictures of my planet.

This is the planet Asahi, meaning ‘Morning Sun’ in Japanese. It’s about the size of Venus in our galaxy and its conditions are quite like Earth but with a slightly lower temperature and slightly higher concentrations of CO2.

Planet Asahi is split up into 4 main continents, each named by yours truly…

The first continent is called Lammasu Isles…Legend has it that when Asahi was created by the almighty Shawnius (New name I made for myself, cool huh!), a mythical creature gave his sign of approval by stamping and leaving his footprint for ever more. This mythical creature was a sphinx, a creature with the body of a lion the wings of a giant eagle and the face of a human, quite a cool guy to meet… he could fly, roar AND play football with me!

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, this continent has 3 smaller countries, which I named, Big Toe, Middle and Pinky. Very imaginative I know.

Next up is the continent Ares, which was named after the Greek God of war. Coincidentally the sea eroded this area into a sword type shape, the sword is the symbol of power, virtue, and courage. This is where the leaders of my planet will live and rule, and a huge statue of me will be placed for all to see! And um, worship!

And finally these sets of islands make up the continent named Happiness, the islands represent Love, Luck and Money… the 3 things that I could really do with in my life right now. If I can’t have them, then at least my people can!

This is one of my favourite places, named after the coolest guy on this planet, okay maybe the ONLY guy. I've called it Mount Shawnmore... The volcano is currently dormant but not inactive. This isn't the only volcano on Asahi, there are a couple situated under the sea.

EDIT: It is habitable by humans and thanks for the heads up about the sphinx HCL!

EDIT 2: the link for the planet is here (http://vpl.ipac.caltech.edu/epo/gallery/images/simplanet.jpg)

1st Sep 2007, 2:16 AM

This is the planet Deldarios as a whole, as you may notice there two islands, one large island with a mountain in the center and another small grouping of islands. These are the only two land masses located on the planet, the whole rest of the planet is water. Although there isn't alot of landmass, human life is sustainable anywhere on the planet, except underwater of course.

These islands are know as Zonderia to the people of Deldarios. Zonderia is a small cluster of islands with a sub-tropical climate. Filled with dense jungles, Zonderia is home to some interesting wildlife not seen on Earth.

This is Vacian Isle as it is called by all Delarians. Its climate varies depending on the region you are in. The forest regions have a temperate, cool climate. The Desert surrounding the outskirts of the forests has a very hot climate. The mountainous reigon of Deldarious has a dry, cool climate, not much percipitation happens here.

This is a photo of Mt. Vacio, but only from close up can you notice that it is actually a volcano. Volcanoes on Deldarios are much like Earth volcanoes. But this one hasn't erupted in a long time, Earth Scientists would consider it dormant.

The Desert surrounding Mt. Vacio is a scorcher, Deserts on Deldarios are much like those of Earth deserts but there are a few distinct differences.

There is more rainfall in these Deserts which allows for water to be easily found, which is why these Deserts are able to sustain plant and human-like lifeforms.

(I hope I did everything ok tell me if anything needs to be changed. :smash:)

1st Sep 2007, 2:43 AM
All of you have really out done yourselves!

fizz: Your entry is great though you need to tell us if Asahi is habitable by humans. And FYI, the creature you were talking abot was really a Sphnix if you didn't know that. ;)

Toffee: You did everything correctly. :)

I forgot to tell you guys but FurryPanda had to resign from her judging status because of Mother Nature's hatred towards technology. LOL So I guess I can fill in for her place.

1st Sep 2007, 3:25 AM
Lol I know what thats like. For 2 nights in a row we were without power because the birds would fly into power wires right by our house!

1st Sep 2007, 6:00 AM
Planet Green

Here's the first map I drew for my planet - I never ever claimed I were an artist. I named most the places after shades of green or cyan, but I just had to call the question-mark shaped place What. Green's fine for humans and any other sort of animal you got, my planet's meant to be lived on by all the stuff I like, and I really should off myself right now if I didn't like me.

Now, for the continents...

The big bugger is Chartreuse. I made it so big, there's all kinds of different climates so's lots of different stuff can live there. It's got moorlands, forests, plains, pretty much anything you can think of. There's also a massive, massive desert to the south, because some stuff really can only live in harsh places. There's cold snowy islands up at the North, too.

One of the biggest features of Chartreuse is that it's got a great. Big. Desert. It's called Olive. There's like three sandseas in the thing, and the dunes are huge! There are little oasis-thingies dotted around, mostly for easy travel. If you're designing your own planet you may as well make it so's you can enjoy the sights without dying. This is one of 'em. Up at the top you can see the two moons, Moon and Noom, which you can always see even at daytime.

This is the long one, Celadon. Again, it covers a lot of different kinds of climate, but I mostly like Celadon for the forests, though the tropical bits in the middle are absolutely brilliant. It don't go North or South enough to get too cold, mind, so I'd imagine any humans or whatever coming here would like Celadon better.

And this... that'd be a giant ring of mushrooms. What's inside the ring gets all healthy and colourful and weird. They're all over the place. This'n's a small one in Celadon's Northern forests, but there's massive rings of mushrooms everywhere. ...it's for the fairies.

And lastly, this is a giant ring o' rings o' mushrooms, or at least a part of it. This giant collection of mushrooms is on the moorlands, on the Isle of What, part of Chartreuse. There's no reason behind the arrangement. I just thought it were cute.

I hope haven't screwed it up - writing it while suffering a headcold in the middle of the effects of a bad sleep pattern may have affected my comprehension somewhat. Here's hoping I'm up before the contest ends so I get a chance to fix any problems. Does it need to be divided into the given sections and properly organised instead of jumbled up like I did it? *worryworryworry*

I wish I'd found giant mushrooms :( I wanted to do a mushroom forest.

Spud your entry is amazing!

I think the mushrooms look great the way they are.

Subject:Flight craft failure report

I’ve finally gotten mailing contact after the flight crash. Unfortunately, I can’t start the flight craft so you’ll have to pick me up.
Anyway, since it won’t be anytime soon that I get out of here, I think I’ll have a look around this planet. Fortunately, the camera is okay so I can send pictures of what I see.
Speaking of pictures, I managed to take 2 pictures of this planet, that I’ve named Vazma.
Cr*p, the attchment thingie is not working. I'll send them next time.

To:[email protected]
Cc:[email protected]

For the past ...days, I think, I’ve been walking around planet Vazma and I’d like to tell you what I’ve seen. But first, since you asked, I’ll tell you about the surrounding planets and stuff.

Click (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Keppni/Planet-space.jpg)

Well, as you can see on the space-photo of the planet, there’s a moon around it, much like ours, and a sun-like planet. But what you don’t see is the 3rd planet, it’s kind of a small, hot planet, not a sun though. I think it’s what you call “a white dwarf”.
About the planet itself, it’s a cold one, that’s for sure. Lots of snow and cold wind. But us humans should be able to live there but it takes time to get used to for those from the southern parts.

Click (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Keppni/Planet-map.jpg)

There are 3 continents as you can see.

Click (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Keppni/Kalevala.jpg)

Kalevala is the biggest one, it’s also the most inhabitable one, lots of trees and water. It’s funny though, the leafs on the trees seem to be yellow all the time, must be from the cold.

Click (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Keppni/Thelonetrees.jpg)

I came across the strangest thing that’s on Lake Saimaa (the biggest one). In one place on the lake, there was skerry with a bunch of trees. There’re a lot of skerrys on the lake but this is the only one to have trees on it. I call them “The lone trees” for obvious reason.

Click (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Keppni/Migarur.jpg)

Next I went to Miðgarður (I can travel across the see because it’s covered with ice for the most part). I think it must’ve been a fire there or something, because it was nothing but bare rocks and dead trees there.

Click (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Keppni/Gahpaga.jpg)

Final stop, Gahpaga. It seems to be snowier than the other two continents, but maybe I caught some snow-less days. I don’t know.

What’s special about this continent is that there are a lot very steep peaks there. One of them is definitely biggest (and scariest) of them all. It’s a circle of peaks, surrounded by some kind of pine trees, and in the middle is a tiny lake. I couldn’t think of a better name for that …thing than Death’s Hall.

Click (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Keppni/Thegiantwhatevers.jpg)

I haven’t seen any life form (other than fishes, trees and such) but I have a feeling that I’m not alone.

Sizza your planet is so cool! :D

2nd Sep 2007, 1:44 AM
Thanks, so is yours, and actually everyone elses.
I've got a thing for cold, snowy places...
 Two of us got the idea of a spacecraft crashing

2nd Sep 2007, 2:29 AM
Thanks. Lol. I think 3 months of cold is enough for me. But usually with the crazy weather in Michigan it snows in like April.

Round two is going to be interesting though, a species on our planets, I don't know where to begin!

2nd Sep 2007, 3:19 PM
Sizza I love your Miðgarður (copied and pasted ) area, it must have taken you age!

I love yours too Toffee!

2nd Sep 2007, 3:32 PM
I will accept your entry this time Sizza but don't be late next time! LOL

Sorry about the judging guys, it was raining all day yesterday and on top of that, I had a stomachache so bad that I could hardly move without feeling any pain. I'll send out the judging format and Round 2 now.

Round 2-Civilization As We Know It

I think you all will really enjoy this round. This round is all about the people that bring your planet to life: your civilization. What are the people that live on your planet like: violent and ferocious or peaceful and serene? How do they look? What is their language? You will answer all of these questions in this round.

-1-2 pictures of the masculine beings on your planet and what role they play on the planet. They don’t have to be men or even adults.
-1-2 pictures of the feminine beings on your planet and what role they play on the planet. They don’t have to be females or even adults.
-1-2 pictures of younger beings on your planet and what role they play on the planet. They don’t have to be children.
-1-2 pictures of your species’ living arrangements.
-1-2 pictures of your species ruler(s) and what they do
2 freeshots in any section (optional) Some recommendations: Headshot of your species, the elderly beings

You must have descriptions for each picture. You will also need to answer these questions:

What is the name of your species?
Are there more than one species on your planet?
What is their personality?
Do they have contact with other beings/planets?

-The minimum for this round is 5 pictures. The maximum is 12 (though I seriously doubt you’ll use that many pictures!)

-Photoshop is allowed and encouraged

-No text on the pictures please

-Your descriptions on for each picture do not have to resemble a novel but there should be no one-liners. The descriptions should be meaningful and descriptive. Remember, quality over quantity!

-Feel free to ask me, the judges, or any of the other contestants questions about the round or WCIF content for the round

Any other questions you may feel you need to answer. This round ends September 6 at 10:00 PM EST. Good luck guys and creativity is the key!

2nd Sep 2007, 4:08 PM
Aww, poor happycow. I know what it's like to have something important to do, yet you're too sick to even sit up.

You're right, I am looking forward to this round. Going to be a lot of work, but going to be fun.

2nd Sep 2007, 7:08 PM
Round two looks fun, but like work.

I was planning on having a variation of the species, like the ones who live in the forest and the ones who live in the mountains, would that be alright?

2nd Sep 2007, 7:09 PM
(Warning - This is a bit of a book;))

Hi, it's me again! I've been having a really great time this week, looking at all the different races on Pern. While it's possible that cross-breeding in the future may add new races, currently there are only three main races on Pern. They are the Amars, the Daerians, and the Draconai.

One thing that all three groups have in common is that they are humanoids, and each race contains females and males, but apart from that each society is completely and utterly different!

This section is dedicated to the Draconai. They are the smallest in number of the three races, and live on Dragon Isle. I've always enjoyed visiting this island because the Draconai are both friendly and unusual! They enjoy learning things from me, both the practical, such as clothing worn in the past on Earth, and the enjoyable, such as myths and legends.

The Draconai are grey-skinned, with an intricate silver design on their faces. When creating them, I based them slightly upon mythical beings such as elves and other magical creatures, and this has lead to a number of distinguishing features, the most noticeable being their pointed ears, their large and varied-coloured eyes, and their horns. They are the most human-like of the three races.

One of the most interesting differences though is the fact that same-gender couples can have genetic offspring. The details are currently unclear, but male Draconai have the ability to get pregnant, while the female Draconai can, if needed, impregnate another female Draconai. This has lead to some interesting effects on gender roles amongst the Draconai.

Here's a group of male Draconai, a young couple and their son relaxing on a hot summer's day. Males that would be seen as taking on a 'female' profession here on Earth are not unusual amongst the Draconai, so while you do get those in 'masculine' jobs such as soldiers, you will find that there are male home keepers, carers, and other 'feminine' jobs.

Plus the males are so cute when they're waddling around.

Here's a group of female Draconai, a pair of mothers and their two children. Similar to the males, females are considered an equal part of society, with no specific roles that they must adhere to. An example of this is Reivani, the female sitting down on the left side of the picture. Her position is known as a Guardian of the Dragon - basically the soldiers and protectors of the Draconai.

Children amongst the Draconai are few, but well-cherished. It usually falls to the elder ones, like Inaria on the right, to look after the younger ones when the adults are busy. One of the roles they do have, when they are not playing, consists of foraging for food, helping with the animals, and helping the priests at the temple. Inaria often helps out her grandfather, the High-Priest, while Ichiro (on the left) does his best to help out the Guardians. He's confided to me that when he grows up he wants to become a Guardian, just like his birth-father! So sweet!

This is Andinal of the Draconai, High-Priest of the Dragon-God. He's the ruler of the Draconai, and it is his role to sit in judgement whenever it is needed. The Draconai look upon me as a God, despite what I've told them, and they refer to me as The Silver Dragon. They are religious, but luckily they're not the fundamentalist-converting type. I wouldn't be able to stand it here if they were.

He's also the one of the wisest Draconai, and in times of war (usually with the Daerians) the Guardians value his advice greatly.

Here's part of the sprawling house where all the Draconai live. Each member and their family has their own area, but all residences are connected by corridors, making it very confusing to find your way. I must have got lost more times than I can count in there!

The walls are all covered in a mystical holy symbol of the Draconai which is said to bring good luck and protection. I really shouldn't mention to them that the shape of my brother's tattoo was made up one night after more than a few beers...

I've also decided to sneak this in. It's a close-up of the pattern traced out on the foreheads of the Draconai, and you can see how unusual their eyes are. Haldarian here didn't mind it, and even smiled when he looked at the picture when I was done and saw his mate looking at him. Someone's going to have an energetic night tonight!

The other two races, the Amars and the Daerians on the planet are a bit more complicated, especially in their social structure.

The Amars live in the Amar Marsh, although they have holdings in the Great Desert if they're attacked. They are a slender, snake-like people with fangs, scales, and very small noses which are only used for air, as like snakes they smell through taste. They are very quick and agile, but the characteristic I love the most is their laid-back nature. They do respect and like me but, unlike the Draconai, I don't have to worry about them bowing wherever I go and calling me 'Your Holiness'!

However, I really can't say the same for the Daerians - I absolutely despise them! In their culture, strength and the males are all that matters, and they unfortunately have an extremely high fertility rate. Women are treated like less than dirt, to the point where if I want to take pictures or to observe them, I have to wear a holographic invisibility cloak. Otherwise, I may end up dead, or worse...

Physically, the Daerians are a hairy, red-skinned race that have built up layers of fat in order to survive the way they do in the snow-covered North Daeria. Due to their obsession with strength and despisement of anything to do with what they term 'weakness', they refuse to head south to the warmer climate of South Daeria, or even to learn how to make proper clothes! The large horns on their head and their brute strength dictate the way they fight.

Here's a contrasting picture of the males in each race. The Daerians on the left are two of the Warlord's sons. As you can see, they're currently conducting their national past time of violence. The male's roles amongst the Daerians consist of fighting, eating, drinking, passing wind, and abusing the women, both sexually and physically. I hate them!

On the other hand, you have Haldiss and Hskris of the Amar Queen's harem, and you couldn't think of a pair of nicer guys. After living with the Housemate from Hell for a year, it's nice to meet guys who respect women. While the males here are of a lesser status than the females, it's no where near as bad as with the Daerian females. While the roles of males amongst the Amar are mainly labour-type jobs, such as builders or servants, there are a few in more powerful jobs, and the Queen does listen to the advice given by members of her harem, who due to their status, are often ignored by the other Amar and so see and hear more than someone of a higher status would.

You could not get a larger difference in social status and life styles than that which is between the females of these two races.

The Amars have a low percentage of females, and as they are the only ones who can give birth amongst the Amar, the females are highly prized and cherished. As the Amar have a matriarchal society, the females have a higher rank than the men, and most, if not all, areas of power rest in their hands. The woman in this picture is the personal advisor to Queen Issa, while the child is none other than Crown-Princess Ismiria.

And then you have the Daerian females...

In Daerian society, females are lower than cattle or dogs. As you can see in the picture on the right, the abuse and training received from the males of the tribe has made her too scared to even look at me after I deactivated the invisibility cloak. Her entire life consists of doing whatever the males want her to and serving every single need of the males. So basically, the only roles these poor beings have is to be sex-toys, slaves, and give birth. They have no control or power over their lives, and if they die then all the male does is chuck her body outside for the animals, and grabs a new female.

The children of each race also lead different lives.

Amongst the Amar, the children can often be found foraging or fishing for food. Even those of a higher status, such as Prince Kavaris on the left, are not excused from gathering resources. Like the Draconai though, the Amar have a low fertility rate, so each child is cherished.

However, life for the children of the Daerians is full of cruelty. With their high fertility rate, the Daerians have many offspring, but few survive to adulthood due to the abuse given to them. The boys are trained to fight and be aggressive since they take their first steps, and the girls are pretty much slaves to do the chores. When the females have their first period though, they are considered fair game by the males. It's not uncommon to find eleven- and twelve-year-olds pregnant amongst the Daerians.

Meet Warlord Churnazh of the Daerians and Queen Issa of the Amars. Two completely different people, with different ideologies, cultures, personalities, and with only one thing in common...

...An absolute contempt and hatred of the other.

Churnazh is, to be blunt, a perfect example of a male of his race - crude, violent, stupid, abusive, arrogant, and cruel, with no sense of decency or compassion. He leads the Daerians to war against the other two races, despite his lack of anything resembling intelligence leading his troops to defeat every time. In his world, the only power and way to rule is by strength and oppression.

On the other hand, you have Issa of the Amar. Although she has her own harem of male Amars, she treats them and the rest of her subjects with respect and kindness. Calm, collected, and wise, Queen Issa rules the Amars with a just and fair hand. Don't let her calm nature fool you though, when the Daerians attack she leads at the front of her people and is an amazing fighter.

Here's the two separate homes for the Daerians and the Amars.

The Daerians live in crude one-room wooden huts with no windows. Even without them, the rooms are bitterly cold. Only the males have wooden fires in their huts, the women and children have to go without. I really didn't want to go inside them any more than necessary, so I took these photos from nearby ledge. The valley they live in is an abrupt square strangely cut out of Daeri Mountain. The Daerians believe that a Great Ice Giant came along, and with his axe carved out a space for his beloved Chosen, the Daerians.

...Actually, the real reason it's there is that after a few beers celebrating the completion of the planet's geographical features, I accidentally hit the laser beam button on my ship. Whoops!

The Amar's home are so much more comfortable, and complex! I have to use a rope ladder to visit, but the agile Amars can either use that or climb up the intricate carved pillars as easy as if it was a set of stairs! Built amongst the tree tops, the rooms are light and airy, and the views are amazing! There are wooden walkways between the different rooms, and the roof is made of a yellow slate found in the marshes. I love these homes, and as it's easy to see where the walkways lead to, I don't get lost!

Interestingly, the relationship between the Amars and the Draconai is nothing at all like that of the Daerians with either of the other two species. Trade between the two races are good, and Andinal and Issa often can be in contact each other, leading to a calm and peaceful alliance between the Amars and the Draconai. In this picture, I was invited to a conference between the two groups, with the Draconai delegation of Andinal and his two children, Darenial and Arenia, on one side, and Issa with her Chief Advisor Shadisa and First Courtesan Haldiss on the other. I'm really glad the two species I like the most on this planet get along so well, especially considering that aside from myself, and the Daerians, there has been no outside contact between them and any other beings or planets.

Just a quick question. Where is says 'Living arrangements', what exactly does that mean? A shot of a room? The whole house from the outside?

2nd Sep 2007, 9:22 PM
Scores/comments have been submitted :) And this next round looks fantastic

2nd Sep 2007, 9:38 PM
I have submitted my scores as well, you all have done a wonderful job :D I can't wait to see what you come up with this round :)
Yours looks already great, SilentPsycho, you're quick as usual ;)

2nd Sep 2007, 9:46 PM
Thanks Gerbera.:D

Only a third done though. Methinks I'll be using the maximum amount of pictures for this one...If I squish the Amars and the Daerians into one side-by-side photo, despite that they're pretty much complete opposites.;)

I'm compelled to say something. Happycow, that picture in the round details freaks the hell out of me! *Hides under the bed*

2nd Sep 2007, 10:11 PM
SilentPsycho, you're not the only one freaked out by that picture XD

Now, do I finish this skin? I made the big, big mistake of painting the textures, and even worse it's a furry skin... as such it's been taking forever and I'm really strongly inclined to ditch it! I just can't seem to focus on it anymore :( I guess I'll just do the clothes or something... I can probably still use the faces I've done.

2nd Sep 2007, 10:14 PM
I will accept your entry this time Sizza but don't be late next time! LOL

Thank you! :valentine
Round 2 looks hard

2nd Sep 2007, 11:35 PM
Spud, I'd suggest putting it aside for a day or two then continuing. That's seems to help me when I'm writing assignments.;)

Amars have been created, just got to create the Daerians and their respective homes...*sighs* I hate building. I'm good at decorating, but not house-building.

I really like this entry! I like how your planet is mainly icy; it’s different than the other entries. Your writing is very creative too; I love how the first transmission messed up! Great job!

I like your entry but something about your writing seems processed. Plus, something about your pictures seem all over the place for me. Either way, I think you tried hard and that’s what really matters.

I really like this entry. Your pics are sharp and fresh and your personality shows through your writing and makes you seem very likable. Very Nice!

Your writing seems kinda uninteresting, like there’s no personality. Your pictures seem similar. Maybe you should have added some different colors to make them more unique. Great effort though.

I love Asahi, even if I can’t pronounce it! I love how each section is named or shaped after things especially the continent Happiness with Love, Luck and Money. Your writing is great too, love how you named almost everything after yourself!

I like the idea about you being trapped on your planet since you participated in the last Project Domination. What I don’t really like is your pictures. It seems that you used the planet Neptune and put some drawings on it. I’d much rather you draw it with a photoshopping program. Your pictures confuse me since the ground is cement and you never explain why. Pic 3 and 4 confuses me the most since it’s supposed to be a river but it’s surrounded by cement with a phone pole and trash can. Everything else is great for me though.

Writing: 6

I would have liked to see your planet like a globe but I do understand why you didn’t do that because there is only two land masses. In the picture though, I see a green spot in the corner and that confuses me since there’s only supposed to be two land masses. Your other pics are okay.

The shots of your planet as a whole are very nice though the rest of your pics leave something to be desired. They’re pretty comme ci, comme ca: not bad, but not amazing. One last note is that your planet seems very primitive, like it’s in its early stages of development. Good job though.

Great variety of pictures and the captions were well done, if a little brief. You were descriptive enough to portray the overall planet Drearsheen but also hinted about the planet’s history and inhabitants, which made it intriguing. Your “dichotomy scrim” concept is super-creative, and the details shots of the Three Sisters and Flickette Pond are eerie and otherwordly and make me want to know much more.

Your pictures are well-done and consistent, and the narration is descriptive. Pern looks like a very serene and peaceful planet, and your photos seem very realistic. In the next round, I’d like to get more of a sense of your characters reaction and feelings.

Excellent narration with a sense of personality and great descriptions. The work you did on the Juturna itself is wonderful, but would have earned higher points if you had cropped out or painted out the street and surrounding lots. I do like your detail shots very much as well, great entry.

Silva Amardae
Comment:I would like to see a global picture of the planet, but the map is a nice idea! And I like the way it looks too, very nice! I really like the dragons teeth island!

Anji Kazuku
Comment:Nice planet! The planet overview is cool, if a little cartoony. I like the islands you made as well. Just a few things that you should think about for next time - in the forest it might've been more.. dusty and muddy rather than concrete looking. And the other thing is, you need to crop the roads out because they look a bit silly in the pictures.

Dittania Notinski
Comment:Wow! Lovely planet pictures and islands! I'm also in love with the little rainforest shot! Gorgeous! But the writing could have been maybe a little more descriptive and content-full.

Benjamin Brunel
Comment: I love this planet! Lovely idea and lovely pictures! The only other thing I think I would have liked to see is a from space picture. Otherwise, a really good entry! I like the island what!!

Sizza Snowkitty
Comment:I really like the kind of way that it's an email! Very creative. And the pictures are nice too! I really like death's hall, it looks very amazing, and I'm also liking the lake in the middle. It's cute!

Shawn Taylor
Comment: Haha! Very funny writing and cool pictures! I like the sphinx idea! And the island names, very funny!

Anji Kazuku
Comment: Very nice planet! Not much land though! I really would like to a 'from space' picture of the planet, but ah well. Nice volcano and little islands.

Yay! Results, so now I know which areas I need to concentrate on.:D

Thanks for replying happycow, and luckily for me it's the answer I was wanting. I spent way too long on the places to do the inside, so I should be able to get it all done soon.

5th Sep 2007, 1:40 AM
 I got the highest overall score? That has never happened to me before  Thank you for the comments!:D

5th Sep 2007, 2:17 AM
Oh dear I forgot to fix those little green spots! :doh

Oh well I just know to take my time this round. :frog:

5th Sep 2007, 2:25 AM
Oops. I forgot about the roads and stuff. While I was taking the pictures I kept saying "I'll just crop that out'.
Sorry I didn't.

I am in shock that I don't have the lowest score though. I've never been anything but last!

5th Sep 2007, 4:26 AM
HCL: Please clean out your PM box...it's full. Thanks.

5th Sep 2007, 11:05 AM
Oops. I forgot about the roads and stuff. While I was taking the pictures I kept saying "I'll just crop that out'.
Sorry I didn't.

You could do what I did. Either place a huge bunch of trees and bushes in front of the road, or do that and add a wall coloured to whatever background you want for it, i.e. in my snow-lot, I used the marble wall behind a wall of pine trees to look like more snow.

Nearly finished my entry, just got one picture left. Although, I may have to get the poking stick out if the other's entries don't start coming in. :stick:

6th Sep 2007, 1:02 AM
I am so angry!!! My mum confiscated my laptop and I haven't been able to go on it! It's so not fair, the deadline is today isn't it! I didn't even do anything wrong!

I know this is going to sound really bad... but I come home from college at 11:30 tomorrow would there be any chance of me doing my entry then? I mean mum is at work so I could do it and put my laptop back by the time she gets back.

I know this must be really annoying for you HappyCowLover but I didn't think my mum would be that mean! If there is any way I could have some extra time I would appreciate it so much! If there isn't, I'll understand, I don't want to be a pain or anything.

fizz xx

ps. thanks for the scores woooo! I've just read them, *fingers crossed I can finish round 2*

6th Sep 2007, 1:10 AM
Yay, scores!

I hate to do this but I need to ask for an extension :( I've had a bit of a personal crisis recently and it's really knocked me out something awful - no motivation to do anything whatsoever. I'm feeling a bit better now, but unless I rush like all bleeding hell there's no way my entry will be done on-time...

6th Sep 2007, 1:47 AM
HCL you truly must empty your pm box. Anyway I am back. If I can still judge I'd be delighted to. If not I am sending you major negative vibes and a slightly burnt cake. Happy early holidays!

6th Sep 2007, 12:26 PM
Just finished my entry, and I even went through and removed all the spelling mistakes for you.;)

I hope it's okay.

6th Sep 2007, 4:38 PM
Ack! D: I'm sorry, really really sorry, but I don't think even an extension can save me now! Everything's going to hell over here, all sense of motivation to do anything has crashed and I am in the most miserable mood I have ever been in for a really long time. I'm too busy moping to have the attention span for anything productive.

I'm going to drop out :( But I hope there'll be another cycle in future, I had fun.

6th Sep 2007, 10:03 PM
HCL: Your PM box is still full. I'm dropping out. When I can send you a PM, I'll let you know why.

6th Sep 2007, 10:05 PM
GAH. If Redwing's dropping out too, I feel horribly guilty. I'm gonna rush an entry - it'll be substandard like whoa but it'll be something at least, right?

6th Sep 2007, 10:12 PM
Yep, and don't forget that there are no eliminations. And Yay!

*huggles Spudjuice*

It's a pity you can't carry on Redwing, your entry was good.

6th Sep 2007, 10:38 PM
Okay guys, I've emptied out my PM box. Sorry about that! Been real busy lately.

Guys, don't drop out! I thought we were having fun? LOL PLus, this round ends in 5 hours, so I hope you guys get an entry in.

6th Sep 2007, 11:03 PM
There is no extension then?!?

7th Sep 2007, 1:16 AM
I was wondering the same thing, will there be an extension for this round?

7th Sep 2007, 1:35 AM
5 HOUR! Sh*t! I though I had another day! Luckily, I should be able to finsih within an hour.
*Runs to my PD2 folder*

7th Sep 2007, 1:37 AM
I was wondering the same thing, will there be an extension for this round?

Ditto, especially with the fact that as S2C was down earlier, all those who don't live in EST time would not have been able to post their entries before they had to go to bed or go to work.

Maybe happycow could push it back a bit, but give us the instructions for Round 2 now so that those who have finished there could get started on that round.

7th Sep 2007, 2:19 AM
I will extend the round till 6:30 AM EST tomorrow since we only have 1 entry. And FurryPanda is back as a judge too.

7th Sep 2007, 2:27 AM
Yay! I panicked when I realized I only had half an hour until the first deadline.
Mine will be up tonight, I swear!

7th Sep 2007, 2:29 AM
If there'll be any extension, I might change the text, but now I've to get to bed.

Subject: The life and times of the Morkyas

Hi there. Long time, no write. Sorry for the long wait but the day after I sent you the mail, the computer broke down. Luckily, the inhabitants of Vazma were able to help me repair it.
About the inhabitatants, they’re a race of sims, similar to cats in apperance, and ever since I’ve come to live with them. I’ve had to really try not to pet them.
They call themselves Morkyas, in their language it means “The superior creature that has a beautiful fur and is cute”. So much more charming than Homo sapiens sapiens, the wise wise man.
The day after my last e-mail, a group of Morkyas cam to my space-ship. They had of course noticed that giant clump of iron and the “weird looking, Morkyas-like, naked ape” as they called me at first. After some time of trying to understand each other, and getting them to stop pointing their axes at me because I really did mean no harm, they decided to take me to live with them.
Their way of living is somewhat similar to ours. They live in town-like, uh, towns, like this one:
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/houses2.jpg (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/houses.jpg)

The small houses surrounding the big one are where the Morkyas live and the big one is where the old, sick live, kind of like a rest home and hospital. In this big house is also a kindergarten, a school and where they keep all extra food and wood, for when they run out of their supplies (apparently, that happens quite often).
Unlike here on Earth (or at least in the western world), the old folks play a special role. Instead of sitting around in their rooms, rotting away, they take care of the little ones in the kindergarten
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Nursery2.jpg (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Nursery.jpg)

and teach the kids the very important task of weather-forecasting, because one minute there can be a blazing storm and the next a clear sky with little wind.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Weatherwatching2.jpg (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Weatherwatching.jpg)

I just took this one 'cause I thought it was funny
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Kidtease2.jpg (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Kidtease.jpg)

The males and females play different roles, but they’re not too strict though. What men usually do, women do too. Just not as often.
For example, the men cut down trees and gather wood
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/male2.jpg (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/male.jpg)

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Malegatherwood2.jpg (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Malegatherwood.jpg)

While the women are very busy fishing, with pole, their hands or whatever is the most convenient at the moment.

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Womanfishing2.jpg (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Womanfishing.jpg)

Hmm, I hadn’t realized. It’s not just the fur, nose and ear they’ve in common with our cats, they LOVE fish. Unfortunately, I do not. Please bring some meat with you when you come to pick me up, will you?
Last but not least, here’s their leader:
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Leager2.jpg (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q155/Sizzan/Leager.jpg)

Don’t ask me why he’s sitting in a chair on a peak, no one knows. He’s a megalomania biggot so we don’t ask any questions.
Oh, and you might wonder how I can know all this. Well, appears that their language is similar to German. How very fortunate.
Bye with a kiss, I’d like a meat on my dish.

7th Sep 2007, 2:55 AM
Just so you know in advanced HCL. I don't wake up for school 'till around 6:30 Am all my pics are taken, but I might be 5 or 10 mins late sending it in because I still need to write up a description. Just thought I'd run it by you.

Off to bed all, g'night.

7th Sep 2007, 4:57 AM
Well, now I suppose it's time to tell you all the actual story.

Shortly after I crashed here I went to take pictures of the surrounding land. When I came back there was someone at the crash sight. He looked surprised to see me, but I almost fainted myself!

The strange, alien-man tried to talk to me, but I had no idea what kind of language he was speaking. I shrugged and he stopped, seemingly confused.
Then he pointed at himself and said what sounded like "High-L".
I figured that was his name. So I pointed to myself and said, "Anji".

He smiled and motioned for me to follow him.

That's when I met the frest dwellers here on Juturna - the Feurs. Say it fee-urs, very quickly. I'm only making up a spelling for most of the names though

Their clothes? Exactly like ours except no logo or 'message tees'. Everything is plain but very well made. They're very advanced for not having cars either. Running water and everything.

But the people. The children seem to have the jobs of goofing off, just like on good ole Earth.
Here's two friends, or siblings I don't know, playing tag.

The women make clothing, care for children and take care of lighter jobs, as well as the teens pitching in on any extra work.
These ladies were on break and didn't notice me snapping away at them.

Here's Haele (High-L), my guide and new 'friend'. He's one of the few adult men in the village.

And, here's the head town elder. There are others, but everyone knows this guy, everyone comes to him for advice and stuff. I'm guessing he's like the clan leader and whatnot.

The housing is simple, just barely big enough to hold the essentials, and most are only three rooms large - main space, bedroom and bathroom.

One night though, about a week ago I'd guess, I noticed Haele sneaking out.
I followed and halfway there he noticed me. He smiled gently, made a shushing motion and let me follow.
That's when I met the mountain people - the Shiars. Say that one Shire, like in Lord of the Rings.

The brunette man we met in the woods didn't look to happy to see me, but he cracked a smile when Haele hugged him, even kissed the paler guy's cheek!
Then he was introduced to me as Zayrel. And he led us to the village.
The children here study hard I noticed quickly. None were out on the street that day but I could see one lone teenager reading inside.

The only other child I saw was being led to another building by a woman. It was a day or so later - Haele left me there for a while to get to know them all - that I noticed that was all the woman did. Chaperone the kids.
They might have other jobs, but they're all indoors or out on the mountians because I hardly ever see a female walking around town.

Zayrel introduced me to his brother - I'll explain how I know in a minute - Adel.
They're alright guys really. Adel's much more open and talkative though, even if it is in a type of sign-language. He;s the blonde while Zayrel's the brunette.

The Moutain dwellers also have a tribe elder of sorts, only theirs is a woman.
It's the same deal as with the forest guy though. Only he's a lot nicer than this old gal.

The housing here is much different. Everyone lives in a community house. All one giant living space and bedroom and such.
It's not half bad actually. Once you get used to the snoring.

But anyway, I know Adel and Zayrel are brothers because when Haele came back for me I gestured between them. He slid his hands over one another.
My eyebrows drew together and I crossed my fingers.

Haele shook his head vigourously. Then he made an 'H' shape in the air and it clicked. A family tree.

I pointed between him and Adel and he crossed his fingers.
I pointed between him and Zayrel and his face turned almost purple. He made a sideways peace-sign with each hand and intersected them.
Zayrel took the few steps between them and kissed his cheek again, looking at me with posession in his eyes. I understood what the intersected fingers meant right away.

Then, we just went back to the forest.

7th Sep 2007, 11:15 AM
Axel, I bet Haele and Zayrel look cute together, and it's interesting the way you get along without a common spoken lauage.

Sizza, KITTIES! That's all I have to say.;)

Glad to see that my entry is no longer alone.:D

7th Sep 2007, 11:49 AM
Hello again, Veronica Powers checking in. As I noticed a mountain I thought it would be the perfect place for people to live, so I began my trek. But as I got higher the smell of sulfurous gases became more noticeable at which point I knew it was actually a volcano. I heard some voices from nearby and I noticed a palace with tents in the surrounding area. I began to speak with the natives to get to know them. I could somewhat understand them, they spoke a language that sounds like a mix of Italian and Spanish.

I discovered the Rorites, as they call themselves, are a very warlike people, because of this almost every house is in ruins and most citizens live in tents on or near their home's foundation.

Notice I said ALMOST all the homes, this is the palace, it has been rebuilt several times after being destroyed. The general of the army, who rules the Rorites, is a very selfish person. He and his wife spend most of the towns money on importing expensive goods for their home.

The men are the soldiers of the town and mentors to the young boys. Whenever the general declares war, the men are the ones who are fighting the battle. During times of peace, the men are usually mining for precious stones and ores. This is one of the only ways the town collects income other than raiding towns.

The women of the town usually go foraging for berries, volcanic soil is quite good for growing them. The women usually stay home while the men are off at war and oversee the town, but a brave few do join the army.

The Rorite childen spend most of their time learning. Male children learn about the techniques of battle and many war strategies. Most female children usually learn where to find berries and other food from their mothers or another female mentor.

There are other species on Vacian Isle, the ones the Rorites are in contact with and also quite peaceful toward are the Naums. They inhabit small forest areas located at the foot of the mountain. Naums are very peaceful and actually the only species the Rorites haven't declared war against. Because of negotiations, the Naums deliver food, when berries and fruit aren't in season on the mountain, in exhange for protection from other tribes provided by the Rorites.

I have learned quite a bit about the people of Deldarios, but I have so much more I need to discover. For now, Goodbye.
-Veronica Powers

EDIT: My entry is now finished, sorry it took so long. :sadpanda: I did edit it another time, there were a few spelling errors. Spelling has never been a good subject of mine.

7th Sep 2007, 12:02 PM
I could let you guys finish this round when I get back from school. Yeah I think I'm going to do that.

7th Sep 2007, 9:55 PM
Round 2 is officialy closed! I'll PM the judges and post Round 3 in a min.

7th Sep 2007, 11:51 PM
God, I hate other timezones than GMT(the one us Europeans use).
I just had to tell you that.

8th Sep 2007, 12:09 AM
So do I Sizza. I'm not sure what 'a minute' is in HCL's time zone, but I haven't gotten my judging PM yet and its been some two hours, at least as my time zone reckons things. Funny, I thought the length of a minute and hour were universal... you learn something new every day :P.

8th Sep 2007, 1:06 AM
Thank you, Silent!
As soon as I saw this contest was being done again the entire story just seemed to click together and I thought of the Sims I have made but no way to use.

8th Sep 2007, 2:03 PM
:( I've got my laptop back, guess I was too late...

Good Luck to everyone! I'll lurk instead ;)

8th Sep 2007, 9:11 PM
1 minute is now officially over 24 hours...

8th Sep 2007, 9:15 PM
Lmao, mabey it really has only been a minute.

8th Sep 2007, 9:34 PM
I think I've got it, Happycow lives on Sims-time!

Round 3-Cultures, Hobbies, and Holidays

(No pic this time. Blah.)

Everyone loves some form of entertainment. Be it music, sports, fighting, or just lounging around, no one could live without having fun. Everyone also have some type of culture and holiday that they celebrate. In this round, you will go in-depth with you species. For the requirements, you must have the following:

-1-2 pictures of a notable feature(s) that your species has. It can be physical, mental, powers, ect.
-2-3 pictures of activities that your species consider entertainment
-1-2 pictures of showing your species’ religion. If your species does not have a religion, take 2-3 pictures of what keeps your species calm.
-2 freeshots in any section (optional) Some recommendations: the mating ritual, how your species feel about love

You must have descriptions for each picture. They don’t have to be long but it does needs to be meaningful. You will also need to answer these questions:

What are the holidays on your planet?
What do your species do for fun?
Does your species have a religion? Tell me about it.
Any other questions you feel you may need to answer.

-Photoshop is allowed and encouraged

-No text on the pictures please

-Your descriptions on for each picture do not have to resemble a novel but there should be no one-liners. The descriptions should be meaningful and descriptive. Remember, quality over quantity!

This round will end September 13, 2007 at 10:00 PM EST. Good luck guys and as always, be creative!

9th Sep 2007, 12:37 AM
A question about this bit:

"-1-2 pictures of showing your species’ religion. If your species does not have a religion, take 2-3 pictures of what keeps your species calm."

Is it okay to do the 2-3 pictures part if 2 of them are religious-based, while the other is calm based? I'm thinking of doing one photo for each species, but the Amars don't really have a religious aspect in their lives, but the other two do.

Also, with the two holidays part? Is it okay if one species celebrate one, while another celebrates the second? Or do you want it so every species celebrate both holidays?

Plus, it's interesting that you've specified the maximun photos as 14. Even if you try, there's no way someone can keep to each section's maximun and reach 14 photos, even if they do the optional task.:D

Oh well, I'm probably going to come close.;)

I guess you could do it like that.

You can divide it like each species celebrate a different holiday.

LOL I guess I really didn't think that through. There's no limit then, just don't have like 25 pics. LOL

Hey there!

It's been a while since I last wrote, I hope you enjoyed my last report. Recently, I've been looking more closely at the cultures, holidays, and hobbies of the three main species that live on Pern, unfortunately for me in the case of the Daerians! I thought you might like a look at what I've found out, so I've included a bunch of pictures you might like to take a look at.

First up, the Draconai!

The Draconai seem to be the closest of the three races to nature. Some of them have the ability to manipulate plants, whereas others like Haldarian here have bonded with one of the minor species here on Pern. I've called them 'Fire Lizards' because they remind me of the Fire Lizards from Anne McCaffery's books, despite the fact that they are more wyvern-like than dragon-like in apperance - see the two legs and wings! This ability tends to come in handy, especially when Ichiro's sneaked out from his chores to go practice his sword-fighting skills!

I have to admit, the Draconai are pretty much the only religious group on this planet. The Daerians do have myths and superstitions, but no structured religion, and the Amars are too laid back and calm for one, for which I am extremely thankful! For some reason, the Draconai think I am a Dragon-God in human form, and that Earth is some kind of heaven. Although I know there are a few humans back home who THINK they are Gods (*cough*HousemateFromHell*cough*), I've tried to let them know I am no more divine than they are but it doesn't seem to sink in. The communicator I gave them to contact me on my ship if anything happens seemed to only make it worse. At least High Dragon-Priest Andinal is polite, but I wish he'd knock it off with the 'Divine Dragon' greetings.

Occasionally though, Haldarian will take Inchiro to go do one of the Draconai's favourite hobbies - fishing! There's nothing like settling down on an overcast day to find the fish are biting like crazy, especially if you're hiding from having to help Darenial with the crops!

The one major holiday that the three races celebrate is that of Creation Day - the day that I first created this planet. Amongst the Draconai, the festivities start with a sermon from Andinal about their version of Pern's creation, the qualities they believe are needed for a full and happy life, and prayers for blessings on their just-sprouted crops. After that, it's a week-off full of music, laughter, and feasting. I usually turn up at this time, as Andinal's sermon tends to put me to sleep!

The features that set the Daerians apart from the other two races are surprisingly subtle, and mainly have to do with the climate they live in. For starters, the Daerians are the only race to have such an abundance of hair. The Draconai, while having some hair over their bodies like humans, cannot grow beards, and the Amars are hairless apart from that which is on their heads, like snakes. Also, the Daerians have an extra layer of blubber to keep them warm - handy when you consider the amount of clothes they wear.

As the Daerians have no structured religion beyond the concepts of 'fight', 'rape', and 'men rule', the only time that they can be classed as 'calm' is when they've managed to drink themselves unconcious which, fortunately for the females, occurs often.

Physical activities that the Daerians include fighting, fighting, and fighting. When they're not doing that, abusing the females, or getting drunk, they can often be found axe-throwing.

Creation Day is a big holiday for the Daerians. Only the males may enjoy the 'ceremony', and it consists of Warlord Churnazh reciting the myths and legends of the Daerians, such as the creation of their home by the Ice Giant, and eating and drinking around the fire pit that contains one of my little contraptions I misplaced. This is a dangerous combination, as Flames + Alcohol Soaked Clothes = Crispy Fried Daerian, as Harnak, (the one in the bottom-left of the picture), found out to his dismay. This lead to a quick visit to the nearest snow drift for him. I was laughing so hard I was almost discovered!

As I've said before, the Amars are snake-like in appearance. This includes scales and fangs, of which the latter contains a vemon that is deadly to the Daerians, and unless a Draconai is introduced to the venom gradually it can be fatal for them too.

From what I'm able to gather, the only mandate of the Amar 'religion' is 'Be Happy'. They are some of the most laid back beings I have ever come across, at least when not provoked. Like all snakes, they enjoy nothing more than to bask in the sun and watch the butterflies...

...When they're not doing their other favourite entertainment and swimming in the rivers and ponds or relaxing in the hot springs.

The Amars, as well as celebrating Creation Day, celebrate an unusual holiday unique to their culture called the Ecilpse Equinox. Every year, there's a solar eclipse occuring, and on this day males are considered equal to the females. It's to do with the symbolism of the mixture of light and darkness, I believe. It's generally celebrated with dancing, feasting, music...

...And as it coincides with the time that the Amars are the most fertile, a lot of other 'games' are played. Even those who have to wait for their time with the female that runs their household, such as the Queen's harem, get to enjoy themselves as they wait.

(I chose the 2-3 calm option, and my Optional shots are in the Holiday section - The Daerian one - and the Notable Features section)

Just sent in my scores! Luck all!

11th Sep 2007, 2:15 PM

Can't wait to see the other entires.

12th Sep 2007, 7:00 PM
When can we expect to see our scores?
And HCL, would you mind telling us how many hours we've got?

When can we expect to see our scores?
And HCL, would you mind telling us how many hours we've got?

HCL said that this would end at "September 13, 2007 at 10:00 PM EST". As now it is Thursday 00:30am GMT time, this round will end at roughly 3:00am Friday GMT for people in Europe, which is 26 1/2 hours.

Subject: Cultural learning and less fish(YAY!)

Hi, long time, no write.
During my stay, I’ve been able to fully participate in the Morkyas’es culture and life, and I love it!
I arrived, according to their calendar, on 21th of Tyclumas. As you might’ve guessed, I arrived in winter, because, as you will see on the following pictures, there isn’t always snow on Vazma. There’re even pretty warm days here, but maybe I’ve just adjusted well, who knows?

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/2198/festivevr8.th.jpg (http://img292.imageshack.us/my.php?image=festivevr8.jpg)

Anyway, few days after my arrival, specifically on 5th of Yulemax (each month is 25 days), they celebrated a holiday called YumYum. It’s a tiny bit similar to our Christmas but without the “some guy was born 2000 years ago” religion thingy. It’s pretty much just a celebration for the fact that we’re alive and the days are getting longer and warmer (they’ve got a midnight sun and a whole day of night like the northern and southern countries on Earth). There’s no gift-giving involved, if you don’t count the fact that there are giving themselves a very good, tasty, family-fun time.

Family is very important on Vazma. Not just your blood-family, but also your Connum-family, but Connums are the town-house things I showed you picture of in the last post. Each baby gets a warm welcome and even the children-disliking bachelors and spinster wrap their arms around them, cooing at them, or at least until the baby starts to cry and/or soil itself. And likewise, each death is greatly mourned.

More about holidays, the only other holiday celebrated on Vazma is Vysarmune, a summer festival. It’s a lot of fun, Morkyas (and me too) fill a table with lots of good food (yes, food is very important to them and good food is even more important), play games, listen to music, dance and generally have a fabulous time.

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/6436/couplepz0.th.jpg (http://img165.imageshack.us/my.php?image=couplepz0.jpg)

It’s also a popular event for love-hunting. I know that for a fact.

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/2120/hailthesunkx6.th.jpg (http://img292.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hailthesunkx6.jpg)

About their religion, they pray to the god of the sun, Sonne Sólus.
Each one is of course allowed to pray whenever he or she wants to, but it MUST be done outside in nature since Sonne Sólus can’t see what happens in Morkyas constructed environments.

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/9848/sacrificenl7.th.jpg (http://img165.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sacrificenl7.jpg)

Every season, there are 5 of them, the followers of Sonne Sólus (in other words, just about everyone) will join in a sacrifice to Sonne Sólus. Each connum has a joined sacrifice of animals to Sonnus Sólus, but it’s up to each one if he or she wants to make a sacrifice to any of the sub-gods. I haven’t really studied the religion very much so I don’t know a lot about it but I know there are at least 5 sub-gods, each with their own godly area, like you pray to Ulika for fertility and love and Azelmech for, well, I really don’t know but I know he’s the god of death.

http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/9074/storysvf4.th.jpg (http://img170.imageshack.us/my.php?image=storysvf4.jpg)

Of course the Morkyas have fun even though it’s not a holiday. Among the things they seem to enjoy the most is ice-skating, various sports, including some soccer- and handball-like games, reading and storytelling. Of course not everyone likes everything though.

http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/8444/skatecn4.th.jpg (http://img165.imageshack.us/my.php?image=skatecn4.jpg)

A lot of those who like ice-skaters often HATE sports. I’m not part of that group though, since watching the soccer and handball matches and tournaments (yes, these are a competition sports) is a lot more fun than on Earth but ice-skating here is just the same as there. Move in this direction, move in that direction, repeat.
I’m going to finish this letter with a picture of one of the Morykas most notable feature, their ears. I wish I had such cool ears…

I learned a lot between my stays with these two cultures. Such as that they are very different. As in, 'How can two groups like this live so close?' different.

I also found out there is at least one common word between our languages. 'Advent'. I don't know if the meaning is the same or not, but I'm willing to run with it.
'Advent' here I do know is one of their religious-type things. According to Adel and Haelle - Zayrel doesn't like to talk to me much - this only happens once every six or seven years. And, as in every cheesey space movie, I was there in time to witness it.
I was really expecting something special. I mean, some of us climbed on the roof to watch. I say some because Adel practically dragged me.
But I snapped a picture of the waiting crowd below and tried to get one once everything started. Zayrel shoved my camera down though and shook his head. I figured t was like not whistling at the northern lights or something and put the thing down.
A meteo shower. That's what Advent is. The most ones I've ever seen at once and I flew through space!

They have a statue of someone I can only assume is teh god of learning and knowledge in all the main halls here. They have other deities, but this one reigns supreme above them all.

The religious festival for the forest dwellers was over by the time I arrived, but Haelle 'explained it' as a harvest time.
They also have a majour deity and I bet you can't guess who it is!
Yep, a goddess of agriculture. Her picture hangs at the head of the town hall-type building.

Both cultures also have their own entertainment. The Shiars read - both to themselves and the children - and play skill games (chess! Just like on Earth too! Another similarity, hurray!) and that's about it. I still haven't seen many females. They were all here on the night of the Advent, but gone the next morning. I'm really getting curious about this.

The Feurs, on the other hand, enjoy playing games with the children and the women love to gossip. It makes me homesick just thinking about it.

As you may have noticed, both cultures have a similar skintone. I can't come up with the sign language to ask so I don't know why, but I did notice they have facial markings that differ between the two peoples. Make-up is also done different as you age. The more pronounced within the community you are te more heavily pronounced the make-up on the women - as evidenced by the old lady leader - in the Shiar culture. The Feurs keep it a bit more low-key but they do the same thing.
The younger girls take a more simple approach in both cultures while children wear no make-up at all.
Males are allowed to as well and many do, though most use only a light layer.
See the differences in the designs?
Forest/Feur: http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l153/Axel_Val/Project%20Domination/FacialdecalForest.jpg
Mountain/Shiar: http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l153/Axel_Val/Project%20Domination/Facialdecalmountain.jpg

So, on a personal note, I was walking home from a walk one night - couldn't sleep, too excited by everything going on and the progress I'd made on my last visit to the ship - and what did I see?
Zayrel and Haelle, hiding in the trees.
I skirted around and avoided detection thankfully. I think Zayrel may have put one of my eyes out if he saw me gawking in the trees.
But, just as I was getting to Haelle's home I stopped. More movement. 'Couldn't be them,' I thought as I went to look.

Nope, it was Adel. And Haelle's elder sister whom he'd introduced me too that day.

I saw the looks the Feurs-elders gave me when I returned from the mountain. I'm not sure they'd be too happy to know this was happening.
The Shiar elders too didn't like me. I have a feeling there's some bad blood between these peoples. I just hope I can get out before anything bloody starts. If, I should be saying, but I just have a gut feeling...

Alright, I was late, sorry. My game was taking a minute to load everything.

Hurray I can finally get my pics to work!

Turns out my mom had some program that interfered with our firewall and was screweing up our internet. I'm going to work on finish my entry now.

EDIT: Completed, finally.

Hello everyone I'm back! There was an interferance with my transmission, but now things are working smooth. I thought I learned alot last time here, but I have discovered so much more! Put on your thinking caps because there is alot to be learned about the Rorites.

One notable feature in all of the Rorites is the fact that most of them have red eyes, dark hair, and grat skin. The main reason those traits haven't changed is the fact that the Rorites don't breed with other species.

When I said almost all of the Rorites have red eyes, I meant almost. The royal family is the only exception, they have green eyes. No one knows how the green eyes got into the royal bloodline, but it has never changed.

We're talking about generations and such right now, so we might as well find out when a new one is born. Every year a selected few couples from the Rorite community go dee into the forests at the bottom of the mountain and make a camp. They stay there for usually around three days and nine months later children are born.

The Rorite people are violent and warlike, and so is some of their entertainment. Most Rorite men spend their time training, with family, or entertaining themselves with the art of axethrowing. Some of them are very good and others not so much.

The children of the Rorites aren't as hate-filled and war-like as their parents, they love to play tag and games of make believe together. Its actually alot like kids on Earth.

The Rorites may love war, but that doesn't mean they don't celebrate holidays, especially ones commemorating their peace treaty with another nation. Usually on this holiday "Dian re Peze" which translates into "Day of Peace" the Naum leaders come to have a celebratory parade and dine with the Rorite king and queen. The royal families usually discuss plans for the next year and resolve any problems between the two peoples.

One other major holiday celebrated requires quite a bit of traveling. Living on a volcano, the Rorites are always in danger of eruptions and earthquakes. Because of this the people trek deep into the jungle to make offerings to the Lava Shrine to calm the volcano. Ever since their yearly travels they have experienced no problems with their location of living.

The Rorites do have a more religious serious side to them, strange as it seems. The people often visit the statue of "The One" who they worship almost every morning. Before and after battles, great offerings and feasts are made to "The One" which usually consist of fruits, vegetables, and meats.

The people of the island are very much like humans, it almost doesn't feel that much different than Earth here, except for the fact that everyone has grey or green skin. Well I'm off to dig for more information, until next time.

I don't want this contest to end :weep: , its so much fun! But I think it has been neglected lately.

Same here. I've had a great time making my entries for this contest, and I want to complete it.

15th Sep 2007, 9:20 PM
I don't think HCL should have too much trouble doing only one more round.

16th Sep 2007, 4:30 AM
Perhaps he's busy, something might've happened too.

17th Sep 2007, 1:00 AM
Hey guys, just checking in, I was away this weekend. Wow these entries rock! But um, what's going on??

17th Sep 2007, 2:11 AM
We aren't totally sure whats going on.

17th Sep 2007, 2:24 AM
Seems like HCL has gone *poof*

17th Sep 2007, 11:50 AM
I wonder if one of the other judges or someone else is able to take over, as it seems HCL hasn't posted in here since the 9th. I really hope this contest isn't cancelled...:(

20th Sep 2007, 11:21 AM
Me too, this contest was so much fun!

20th Sep 2007, 11:24 AM
Damn. Just checked bP's post at the beginning. This contest was supposed to be over yesturday, so I doubt we'll get the last round. Pity, although at the moment I'd settle for the results of the second round at least.

20th Sep 2007, 4:56 PM
Hmm. If you'd all like feedback for your entries, even if it's not official I'd be more than happy to do that. :anime:

It's just a shame HCL wasn't able to come on and that this contest went wrong. But as I said, just PM me if you'd like feedback and I'll send some over your way.

20th Sep 2007, 10:20 PM
Well all, I'm contemplating just posting the round two scores from me here soon. I'll critique your round three entry if you PM me. Happy simsing and joyous holidays, if applicable.

21st Sep 2007, 2:35 AM
Furry Panda, if you would be so kind as to post the feedback, I know I'd appreciate it. Thanks so much for spending time judging our entries. :)
