1. You are allowed to change the interior floorplan of the house.

2. Budget is unlimited, so go crazy.

3. For a challenge, the only CC allowed for the house are:

Maxis recolors (both for buy and build mode)
Maxis Match items (and their recolors),

Pre-Order items
Lost and Found stuff,

Other CC is not allowed.

4. You may have up to 2 designers, but they must work on the same house (in other words, a team). They may be adults or elders.

5. You should retain at least 75%-80% the actual exterior structure (which means, you may change the structure of the walls a little bit, but the general structure of the original house must be retained)

However you may change the wall covering, roof color and shape, the doors, the windows, and things like fences, columns, etc.

6. Contest deadlines are shown in GMT +8 time. To benefit everybody, especially those further west GMT time, I have provided a clock to guide you and scheduled 6 days per round.

Ok, I'm in. Let's get those apps rolling.

30th Mar 2008, 5:04 AM
This looks like a cute contest, but I have a couple of questions.

First of all, what can we change about the outside of the house? You mention the interior floorplan but not how much of the exterior structure and landscaping must be intact. Also, do we need only headshots (not freeshots or anything else) of the designers for the app round in addition to the house images?

30th Mar 2008, 5:06 AM

ALL ROUNDS AT 11:59 PM MY TIME (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fullscreen.html?n=145)

Application Round: A Lothario's Haven (March 29-April 4)
Round 1: Home Makeover Desperation (April 4-April 9)
Round 2: Dream On (April 11-April 16)
Round 3: Pleasantly Love (April 17-April 22)
Final Round: Complete Overhaul (April 23-April 28)

Judging will be on a rank-based system based on the following criteria:

Aesthetics and Originality: How does it stand out against the rest of the entries? Does the house look good inside and out, with appropriate clutter on the right places?

Physics and Functionality of Rooms: Are the rooms functional? Will the sim be able to use an object without throwing a tantrum? Are the essentials there (fridge, phone, fire alarm, etc.)?

Compliance with Rules: Self-explanatory. The judges and I will be especially strict with the CC rules. Also, don't forget to put the name of the designer and the round. I will likely remind you if you forget.

Effort: How much work did you put into it? It will be obvious with the overall look of the house.

You can go crazy with landscaping, but the exterior of the house must be at least 75%-80% intact (I mean, you may change the wall covering, the doors and windows, but not the actual walls.

You will only need the headshots of the designers for the application round, but I'll add some bonus tasks to show off your designers a little bit.

ETA: There will be two rounds in which drastically changing the exterior will be allowed.

As soon as I saw this I knew I wanted to enter! I just deleted my Pleasantview neighbourhood this week so I guess I'm going to go and dig it out again :D.

As well as Life Stories objects can we use objects from other Stories, eg Castaway? Also can we use Bonus Pre-Order stuff?

Yes, you may. Pre-Order stuff and other Sims Stories is also allowed (since they are also technically Maxis-Made)

Actually, It was your Maxis Homes Exhibition contest before that inspired me to apply the CC rules to the contest, since even with restrictions, the contestants all made good rooms. :D

Is it OK to change the direction/shape of the stairs?

Game Shark
30th Mar 2008, 9:29 PM
I was going to make an attempt at this, but I have two quick questions. At the end of what custom content is allowed, you have walls and floors. I am just making sure that we can use custom walls and floors.

Also, can we use custom roof colors. For future rounds. I have several roofs which I downloaded. They are exactly the same as the regular roofs, except they have a white trim. Am I allowed to use those?

I apologize if my questions sounded confusing

30th Mar 2008, 10:44 PM
So no exterior walls can be changed? That means even with a makeover it would look kinda the same.....kinda limits the creativity... (no conservatory)

30th Mar 2008, 10:46 PM
Well, I think duderocks said you can change some of the exterior walls. Just as long as 75%-80% stay intact.

30th Mar 2008, 11:12 PM
I mean, you may change the wall covering, the doors and windows, but not the actual walls. So that's that.

You may use custom walls, floors and roof colors.

CiaoAlora, you may change the shape, type and direction of the stairs, as long as it is not CC stairs.

What I was thinking of what to do with the exteriors is something like these houses: http://laverwinklesims.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=4e914adaa703c2c665582b59b874e357&board=65.0

The structure is more or less intact, but the wall coverings, doors and other exterior items are changed (of course, you can change the structure of some walls on the house. However, there will be 2 rounds in which you will be allowed to change the exterior walls drastically (one is a complete house overhaul and the other requires expansion)

Sorry if the house exterior rules are a little confusing. I already revised that rule as not to confuse everybody. Again, I apologize. :(

As for the apps, you have until Friday to get you apps in. If we don't get 10 apps after that, applications will extend up to Round 1, so if you want to join, start cranking your apps and submit them on this thread (as always). :D

Don Lothario's home makeover:

The exterior was updated to a dark easily maintained stone and the decking was replaced infavor of easy care composite decking material, as it won't fade in the sun and never needs refinishing.

On the main floor, my goal was to increase the size of the entertaining zone, therefor reducing the dimentions of the kitchen was a must.

I kept the layout of the upper floor, it was working for the overall design.

Bedroom (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/Lothariobedrm.jpg)
For the bedroom, the use of warm masculine colors make the room feel sexy and reflect Don's taste.
Kitchen (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/LotharioKitchen.jpg)
In the kitchen, I wanted to have modernized appliances so it is easier for Don to prepare meals for himself, also a small dinette is included in the space for when he has his lady friends over. Romantic dinner for two anyone?
Living Room (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/LotharioLiving.jpg)
The living room is finished in red and black, the first impresion when you enter a home needs to set the tone for the whole home. Dark, mysterious, and sexy seems to be Don's style.

31st Mar 2008, 3:19 PM
Our first applicant! :D Great job, CiaoAlora.

EDIT: For the succeeding rounds [Round 1 onwards], you will need to briefly describe how you went about on designing that particular house (If you check out other house contests, you'll see what I mean).

EDIT AGAIN: Judging criteria added on Round Info post.

The Lothario House

The outside of the property has been totally paved over to give it a minimalist look (and cut down on gardening!). We kept the same style of windows but changed the doors and railing on the terraces. We also added a high wall for privacy when Don is entertaining in the garden.

Ground Floor

We kept the layout open plan as the square footage is quite small, and moved the bathroom under the stairs to maximise the use of space available.

First Floor

The bedroom is uncluttered to give it an airy feel and outside we have given him a nice entertaining space. We kept his telescope so he can continue to spy on his neighbours, oops, we mean maintain his neighbourhood watch scheme!

Second Floor

On the top floor we have given him a trainset, because he's really a closet anorak! At his request we put a gate at the bottom of the stairs to stop any of his nosy neighbours wandering up and finding out his secret.

The living area is decorated in masculine colours with sturdy furniture. At the rear there is a study area, but he only uses the computer for... well, we'll leave you to work that one out for yourself!

We gave him a trendy kitchen to impress the ladies (but the only thing he uses is the toaster oven).

sooo how do i reinstall it again??
-do i drag the data from the original sims 2 disk? if so, which one??

help would be much appreciated!

2nd Apr 2008, 5:09 AM
If you haven't messed up the Pleasantview in your program files, get them here (if you use the default directory)

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods

Pleasantview is N001.

2nd Apr 2008, 5:16 AM
ahh no i havent. only in my docs.

ok, going to overwrite the old one and get going with the application.

thanks for the help.

2nd Apr 2008, 5:30 AM
I just wanted to let everyone know that the limit on images per post (4) is only applied to the Sims Pictures Forums. So those of you who wish to image-tag all of your images in your entries (as opposed to linking them) may feel free to do so.

Picture Limit Per Post: You may not post more than four (4) images per post. Please do not double post to get around this limit. This limit (unlike the others) applies only to the Sim Pictures area of the site - you may post more images elsewhere (so there is no image limit per post for stories, contests, etc.).

2nd Apr 2008, 5:31 AM
Thanks for the heads up, bP. I'll update my rules.

Name: Bunny von Baden-Blitzkrieg aka Dutch Kitch Design
Age: 63.
Specialty: Bathrooms, Bedrooms and Landscaping. (I'm really just saying something here.. it so depends on the house, but I always enjoy doing these.)
EPs and SPs you have: Everything.

The Lothario house:

Don came to me after his sweet little grandmother Mrs. Motherlode had died. She had left him a small fortune and Don wanted to use this money to change his house into the bachelor's heaven he had always dreamed of.

Don is a man with a keen interest in nature, sports, fitness, art, health and women. I tried to show his personality in the design, and give the house a clean, modern and masculine interior in which a women would feel at home too. With a touch of phallic symbolism to hint at his deeper desires in life.

Exterior shots:

Don told me he liked the nature, but he hated gardening. So I designed his garden in a geometrical style that is nice on the eye and fitted the house. The trees and hedges combined with straight flower borders are easy to maintain by a gardener. There is a small pool, which allows Don to keep up his fitness and I added an orange-tree so that Don can surprise his special lady friend of the moment with a fresh pressed cup of juice for breakfast.

Ground Floor:
I enlarged the living room a bit so that the shape matches the first floor deck.

1st floor:
The large bedroom is the heart of the house.

2nd floor and landscaping:

Interior shots:

Don loves Art but doesn't like to have too many frames on his wall. That's why I used a kitch retro wallpaper with a few select big photographs. Matching black and white furniture with colour accents finish the room.

A quiet little corner where you can make a private phonecall, read a book or relax and daydream with your head in the clouds. (retro 60ies wallpaper.)

Food becomes happiness in a sunny yellow/grey/black/white kitchen.

Elegant colours in the bathroom.

Don's bedroom is his pride and joy. An Asiatic style to show his deeper mysterious and spiritual side (or give the impression that he has one.)

Roof Terrace:
There is no better place to relax than a bubble bath or hammock on your rooftop with a view over the whole neighbourhood.

LOZOTRON, can you retake your pics? I will ask the judges to critique each design. It might be hard for them to see.

Your pictures must be at least 500x450 (although the large in-game camera size is fine) and at most 700x700. Just updated the rules now.

I'm sure your updated ones will be much better. :)

2nd Apr 2008, 9:33 AM
yeah, no problem. i'm on the case already. hehe. it's the first contest i've entered you see, so i'm just learning the ropes.

i had my camera setting on the highest resolution / size.. but still the pics where small. then when i uploaded them on a post, it stated "inline pictures are too big" etc.
i know what to do now though - print screen.

but what the heck, the more the merrier i guess.

I hope it's okay for newbies to join in too. I think this contest will be very enjoyable. Obviously, this is my first time entering a contest here on S2C, so if I do anything wrong, please tell me so. Also, English is not my native language, so I make a lot of grammar mistakes and my vocabulary isn't as extended as most of yours are. Again, if I make any errors, please tell me so.
My application:

Lukas: I was very surprised when Don asked me to makeover his home. The way he goes around Pleasantview and has all those pretty ladies eating out of his hands... A man can dream about it. Anyway, I saw a lot of possibilities in this one, but decided there is only one way for a ladies' man like Don. Without further ado, I present you: A Lothario's Haven!

Lukas: There have only been some minor changes on the outside structure. Don wanted to remove the entire third floor terrace, since it reminded him too much of his long lost love...

First floor overview:

Second floor overview:

The living room:

A large couch for cuddling/reading/watching TV is a must for a man like Don.

Study nook:

Don has told me -in confidence- that he really needed a new computer because he loves certain ..uhm.. adult sites.

The kitchen:

Every man should have a decent kitchen, if not to cook himself, then to impress the ladies.

The bedroom:

This is where all the magic happens...

The bathroom:

The bathroom is rather small, so it's hard to get a decent pic of it. It fits very well with the rest of the house though.

Some outside pics:

And what did Don think of it?

Don: I absolutely love it! I don't have to be ashamed anymore to bring home my special friends, ladies are impressed when they see how stylish my home is decorated and adding a pool was an awesome idea! The Don is pleased.

2nd Apr 2008, 12:00 PM
Great apps, everyone. If we get 10 tomorrow, I might start Round 1 early.

jessica, newbies are definitely welcome to join. Your English is quite good, actually (I'm not a native English speaker either).

A Lothario's Haven

Front View:
After chipping away at the old stucco a beautiful old brick exterior was revealed. As Don admitted that he rarely ventured up to the third level we decided to do do away with it and add a roof instead to create a more individual structure.

Ground Floor:
Due to the small size of the property I decided to keep the area as open plan as possible to give the appearance of space and to add light.

First Floor:
As Don freely admits to being a womanizer and an "animal in the bedroom" (his words, not mine) I designed his bedroom to reflect this, using animal print fabrics, luxurious textures and sensual colours. A walk-in shower was also added for convenience.

Join, you cannot get better if you do not try. I myself expect to fail miserablely, but I think in the end I will improve.

2nd Apr 2008, 8:37 PM
Yes, do join!

I mean, I got a star already, but it's the first housebuilding contest I am entering.. so this is even new for me too.

2nd Apr 2008, 8:38 PM
I'd like to join, but I'm wondering wth is meant with maxis match content, because my favourite site: sims2play has been written off as maxis match, but Im fairly sure it's cc...

2nd Apr 2008, 8:44 PM
Actually, I am not really sure 'bout that one too....

I'm just using the stuff that I know is maxis for sure, custom walls and floors and maxis recolours...

2nd Apr 2008, 8:46 PM
There are several sites that have Maxis Match content, if anyone wants any links feel free to PM me :).

O.K., I have finished building and am uploading the pictures. Just a note, if anything looks similar, I apologize. I have tried to keep my head away from here to avoid accidentally copying someone else's idea.

I have completely changed the downstairs completely and I think that it is an improvement to my earlier submission. Again, I have tried not to look at any replies since last night and if I did do something almost exactly similar, it was done unconsciously.

Same goes for me, sorry if something looks familiar. It was unintentional.

I am updating my pics, but will prob'ly finish tomorrow, it's getting late here.

We still need contestants, not?

Favourite room to decorate?: I've got to say the living area/study,
a house cannot function without a good work and relaxation vibe.
Though I must admitt I love kitchens as well, but that's just because
that's where all the food's at, and I sure do love food

Eps: University, Night life, Open for business, Pets, Seasons, Bon voyage.

Outside shot:
I gave don's balcony a half closed look, so that he can hide from some of his neightbours. I also arranged a car for him, to drive his dates around in style

After discussing it with don, I changed the floorplan of the bottom floor. The kitchen has become smaller, because he's more likely to take out his dates. The bathroom is also not that large, but he told me he preferred the hottub anyways. And he now has a good living room, with ample room for him and his beau's

I took out the hottub and put it up on the next level, to create a bit of a dancing area for any parties Don might want to throw. The telescope's also still there. It's not so subtle aimed at the Goth house, so he can keep tabs on his "fiancee".
Besides the hottub, I also bought Don a massaging table. Now he can woo the ladies in more ways he ever thought possible.

Don's a trying to make a career in medicine, and thus does not have the time to clean up his home every day. Therefore I've decided to give him a not too cluttered living space, with lot's of light colours. If he makes a mess of it, the maid can see it very clearly and clean it up asap. I also equiped him with a big LCD screen television, with surround sound, to occupy his time when he's not wooing the ladies or studying for his career

Don needs to have a space where he can dedicate himself to his career. He also thought it would give him a studious air the ladies in pleasantview love so much. It's also a good place for him to call his next beau and invite her into his...
Dining area
Don's dining area is now able to fit four people. Note the wine rack. I put it there so that he might come across as a true casa nova to his lady lovers. Or to get them drunk when all else fails.

The kitchen has been reduced in size, but is still fully functional. The microwave is mostly there for looks, because Don prefers take-out.
This is where all the action happens. I tried to keep it light an simple with Don's favourite colours, pale green and beige. I added some purple to spruce things up. The big mirror is there for some extra effect and the excorsize machine is there to get that take-away fat of his sexy limbs. Or so he says they are

For the first floor I took down all the walls as it just wasn't contributing to the openness of Don's lifestyle... The rooms are in the same basic places down here, its just a bit more free.

For Don's bedroom I've done the same basic scheme of things but I've moved the bathroom upstairs for easy access to the shower after a long day in the hot tub. The side part of the deck has become Don's bathroom.

Since Don indicated that the deck area's would be getting the most use, I move all of his entertaining things out to the top of the building so as to take in the beautiful view of Pleasentview and beyond. He has a bar, hottub and telescope.

I've also bought him a grill and table for the lower portion of the deck so that he can make hamburgers and shish kebob's for all his friends.

Here's the front of Don's new house with his brand new Hunka in the driveway. I was jealous too!

Being the man-about-town he is, I wanted to give Don a chic, urban design. This means the main living area is open plan, and the same color-scheme is carried throughout the entire house.

I thought this brick exterior would be perfect for Don; the sexy color just beckons people to stop by and see who lives inside.

The entrance doubles as a spacious area perfect for dancing, and features a large mirror for last-minute hair adjustments before running out the door.

To the immediate right of the entrance is the lounge-inspired living area. A half wall separates this area from the dining/kitchen area.

The dining area is situated close to kitchen to encourage conversation between the cook (Don) and his guests.

The kitchen is modern, and incorporates the ever-important "kitchen triangle" between the fridge, sink & oven. Guests can sit and have a drink at the bar while Don tends to the meal.

The bathroom is tiled floor-to-ceiling, and features a bathtub and separate shower. The toilet is behind the far half-wall. A large mirror keeps this small room from feeling open and spacious.

I kept the fact that Don's bedroom is a flow-through to the deck in mind when I placed the furniture.

The main deck area features speakers to get people dancing in the sun, as well as a BBQ area complete with weather-resistant mini-fridge!

The uppermost deck is a straight-forward with it's sunken hot-tub.

Overall, I kept the landscaping minimal and not fussy, since Don has better things to do than tend to plants and shrubs ;)

A couple of questions:
Can we expand all/any rooms?
Is there a limit to the amount we can spend?

4th Apr 2008, 9:55 AM
romy, you can expand the rooms, since it's one of the requirements for the round, and as stated in the rules, budget is unlimited.

4th Apr 2008, 9:56 AM
Thank you!

4th Apr 2008, 10:23 AM
To all contestants: I already PMed the judges for the application comments. I will post them as soon as I receive them.

Before anyone asks, there will be eliminations after each round. Two people for the first three rounds, one for the final round and the remaining ones will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

4th Apr 2008, 12:14 PM
Cool, round 1 is up already.

Can't wait to see the judges comments... everybody has made such different houses for Don. (Except that we all have used the same ingredients for his hot lovin' lifestyle.. hihi.)

I'll get to work for Brandi right away... my Pleasantview finally gets used for something useful. (I revived it for the contest.)

4th Apr 2008, 12:44 PM
A question about round 1: Do you still have to be able to 'see' where the original structure was? Or is really everything allowed?

4th Apr 2008, 12:58 PM
yipee round one is up, i'm going to go make a start now :D

4th Apr 2008, 1:13 PM
heh sorry guys... thought since the Burbs didn't come with a house they wouldn't be used... I'll have a new designer up this afternoon... around 4 or 5 Central time. :D

also I had a question that I forgot to mention in my post: I have bedding replacements, is that ok?

4th Apr 2008, 1:28 PM
That counts as Maxis recolors, so it's okay.

A question about round 1: Do you still have to be able to 'see' where the original structure was? Or is really everything allowed?

For this round, anything goes. Brandi would really like to see something other than a box. ;)

The next two rounds will have the same rules applied to the Application round.

I just realized I left out the aerial shot of the ground floor; is it too late to add it?

4th Apr 2008, 10:43 PM

on first inspection of brandys home i frowned upon the garish colour scheme, especially in the kitchen. to be frank, the WHOLE house was a designers nightmare. bad layout, bad decor, bad colours, bad everything.
fortunately for brandy (or unfortunately) her husband died (death by pool ladder) and she inherited a large sum of simoleons from sim city insurerers. apparently these 'freak pool ladder accidents' happpen a lot (:trix:)
anyhoo this allowed me to spruce up her whole home! knock down walls, add another level and bedrooms. when i proposed this idea to brandy she was chuffed, all she desired was a family home to raise her 3 children in.
and thats what i'm giving her ~ first job on the list: get rid of the pool.

1st floor: http://img185.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1stfloorpd6.jpg
all the walls where knocked down apart from the exterior ones. i had a specific layout plan and the existing walls DID NOT fit in. as a second floor has been added the 2 bedrooms are no more, allowing a bigger living space for the family. a crowded environment is never good.
colour pallette ~ warmth, earthy, cosy colours. brandy and the boys need to feel comfortable and at ease in their home. i can imagine it to not be the same since the demise of mr broke.

2nd floor: http://img185.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2ndfloorft0.jpg
all new bedrooms and bathrooms (plus sun deck)
i decided that brandy need a treat, she's bringing up 2 children and one on the way as a single mother. her life must be pretty hectic. SOOOO, WITH THE BOUDIOUR BEING MY SPECIALITY! i decided to make brandy's extra special. bay windows looking over veronaville, and a washroom. a lot better than the tacky room she had previously. it may of been suitable for don lothario, but not a pregnant houswife.
- beds/cots can be moved around when the newest baby is on its way.

so with all that explained, lets get on to the finished product...

living room.

dustin/kiddies room.

brandy's room.

upper patio and bay windows detail.

happy clients!
the broke household are happy and settling down (apart from dustin, but will her ever) and brandy's particularly happy with her new pond. its not too deep and most importantly no ladders. she's going to stock the pond with carp and pikes :umm:

but nevermind that, my job is done.

4th Apr 2008, 11:10 PM
WOWzers LOZOTRON now that's a make-over. Brandi will have to change her name from Brandi Broke to Whiskey Wealthy now :-D

Hi y'all! Nice to see you all back so soon. This time I got a desperate call from Brandi Broke. See, her husband passed away not so long ago, and she just received the cheque from his life insurance. Now, I'm too discrete to tell you how much they paid out, but holy motherlode, 100.000§ is a lot of cash!
You can't keep on living in a trailer like white trash with a wallet that size. Oh no. So, knowing that I am the best at what I do, Brandi asked me to design her the traditional, suburban family home she's always been dreaming of. And that's exactly what I did.

Windows are part of Marylou's Indepent Expressions Set, fence and stairs are recolors.

I literally knocked down the entire place and build it up again from the ground up.

First floor overview, consists a large familyroom, a large kitchen/dining and a powder room:

Second floor overview, consists a master bedroom and ensuite bathroom, the children's room and their own private bathroom:

Now, on with the juicy stuff. Since Brandi likes to wait for Dustin to come home, and also sit on the lookout for future husband material, I decided to give her a porch just to do that.

The family room is actually divided into three area's. This one is the TV area, obviously. Brandi likes to watch her soap opera's and who am I to deny her that?

The couch and curtains (all through the house) are recolors, the sofa is Maxis Match from N99.

Secondly, an area just for Beau, so he can play and still be in Brandy's eyevision all the time.

And lastly, what a family's room is all about. Doing familythings together. I can just picture them playing a game of don't wake the llama.

Brandi loves to cook, and as a pregnant mother, all three (or is it four?) of them should have healthy meals every day. This kitchen is designed especially for that purpose. Also, while Brandi cooks, she can make sure Dustin makes his homework at the dining table.

The flowers are a recolor of the craftable daisies from OFB by Macarossi.

Brandi's bedroom, with a crib for Beau. When the new baby arrives, he'll be grown out of it, so there won't be a problem with space. Brandi wanted something to reflect her personality, and I decided to go with her soft, feminine side.

Since she has her own ensuite bathroom, the colors and materials are pretty much the same as the bedroom. Warm, soft and lady-like.

The bathtub is a recolor.

Now, onto Dustin's bedroom. There's also a place ready for Beau when he grows up as you can see. Dustin wanted a place where he could hangout with his friends, without being embarassed, and I don't think anyone will laugh at him with a room like this.

Lastly, the garden. Brandi really likes the outdoors, but because of her husband's unfortunate accident, she never went to the backyard again. So, I removed the pool and fixed the place up so she could enjoy her garden again. There's also a basketball ring for Dustin, since that's about the only exercise he's willing to do.

The pond is one of the career rewards that came with the FT expansion pack, (some of) the shrubs are recolors.

And what does the Broke family think of it?

Brandi: I am utterly pleased! The other housewives will be green with envy when they see my gorgeous new house. No, it's not a house, it's a home again! Now I just hope all the pink in my bedroom won't scare away any future husband material.
Dustin: Like ... whatever ... I hope I can finally allow my girlfriend to come in now.
Beau: Pwetty fishies!

Lukas: My work here is done I see. I'm just going to enjoy this pond for a little moment now and then I'll be waiting home for my next job. If anyone still hires me that is...

Well, I've got all the walls and floors down. All I need to do is decorate. The house actually looks nicer than I thought.

5th Apr 2008, 11:25 AM
Do we need to include a picture of the Brokes in their new house?

5th Apr 2008, 11:36 AM
It's optional. :)

5th Apr 2008, 11:46 AM
Front View

First of all we added another storey to the Brokes home to give them more room without taking away any outside space. We then clad the outside of their renovated home in stone to get away from the trailer look, and added plenty of windows to flood it with natural light. The outside requires minimal upkeep.
(Windows and doors from MaryLou's Independent Expressions expansion set, Numenor's recolourable wooden stairs)

There is space for the boys to run around and practice their sport, and we've added a deck from where Brandi can supervise them. There is space for a barbecue and table and chairs if she wishes. We given Dustin an old car to do up, we feel it will give him a sense of purpose and help him in finding a more suitable job!
(Maxis match flowers in barrel by SimplySims2, white fence recolour, swing LS Objects)

Ground Floor

The ground floor has remained largely unchanged. All we did was knock down the walls round the boys bedroom to give more living space.

First Floor

Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom for the boys. At the top of the stiars there is space for a little work area for Brandi.

Being a mother of two with another on the way we've given Brandi an easy to use kitchen with added conveniences of a microwave oven and a dishwasher.
(Maxis Match wall cabinets from WDS)

Another View (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/broke20.jpg)

We gave them a proper dining area where they can sit down as a family and have a meal together, even if it is just pizza.
(Dresser from SimAddict99's Country Match Set, table either Simaddict99 or Sirona Sims, chair recolour Piggi Sims))

The main part of the living area is centred around the fireplace, and the large windows mean Brandi has a great view of her neighbours, if she's the nosy type.
(Sofa recolour N99?)

There is also a large sofa and TV where they can enjoy their favourites show together.

TV Area (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/broke11.jpg)

Brandi's Room

We wanted to give Brandi a relaxing haven away from the boys so we chose a soft blue with floral and stripes which we feel works very well. There is also a crib for when her baby arrives.
(Crib recolour Piggi Sims, vanity table and wall mirror Sims2Code)

Another View (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/broke8.jpg)

Ground Floor Bathroom

We put the changing table in here where the extractor fan can deal with the smell! We kept it quite feminine as it's Brandi's main bathroom.

Here (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/broke7.jpg)

Dustin's Room

We went for a very grown-up, masculine room for Dustin, now that he has taken over the role as the main breadwinner. But we've also made it a place he can relax away from his brother, and have given him a computer so he can keep up with his schoolwork.
(various poster recolours by me, bP and Aikea Guinea, furniture recolours Piggi Sims, square end table LS Objects)

Another View (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/broke3.jpg)

Beau's Room

Brandi's has had a scan and knows her new baby will be a boy too, so we have made this room a twin in preparation for that. We've made it a fun room because that's all small children should have to worry about!
(poster recolours MTS2)

Another View (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/broke5.jpg)

First Floor Bathroom

The upstairs bathroom is kid-friendly with 2 showers for when they are in a rush in the morning.
(mirror recolour)

Here (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/broke1.jpg)

Brandi's Work Area

We have provided Brandi with a sewing machine and worktable so she can earn a little bit of extra money without leaving the home.

As Brandi leads a hectic life with two children to look after and another one on the way, the main living and eating area's were decorated in soothing pastel colours to create a calming mood.

An open floor plan was created so Brandi could keep an eye on the children while cooking thier meals or watching TV. Top of the range appliances were fitted in the new raised level kitchen to cut the time it takes to carry out domestic duties in half.

Dining Area:

A conservatory was added as a place where Brandi could go to sit quietly and relax whenever the children take over the main living area to play computer games or watch MTV. This is also a great place for Brandi to sit while keeping an eye on the children as they play outside. The patio area was created as an ideal place to hold children's birthday parties and for adult entertaining once the kiddies are safely tucked up in bed.

As Brandi did not want to know the gender of her unborn baby before it was born the new nursery was decorated in neutral colours and was made large enough to accommodate extra beds for sleep overs once the baby gets older

Whilst digging around I discovered that Brandi's favourite colour is purple so I used this colour as the basis to create a relaxing, sensuous haven where Brandi can wind down after a long day. This room is strictly off limits to the children.

Master Bedroom:

Again, I apologize if the quality of the pictures are bad (especially the lighting). I am honestly expecting to get eliminated. Everyone else has wonderful submissions. They dwarf mine in comparison.

NOTE: In some pictures, the lights have been removed so that I could get a better view of the room.

Living Room

Well, for the living room we decided to use neautral colors. We really think this room looks nice, and I (Kathleen) absolutely adore these couches. We decided to use a grayish rug between the couches. Originally we had it going toward the fireplace but you know....... fire hazard.

On the fire place's sides, we put paintings of Brandi's kids. I think it adds a nice touch to the room. Its a bit like a moment in time, where she could look back at the pictures years from now and remember........

Also, Reiner and I wanted to make sure the family had plenty to do. Pianos are not only nice things to play, but they add a certain something to the room in my opinion...... A televsion was placed over the fire place so that everyone does not have to run up to Dustin's room to watch their favorite show.

A final note on this room is the pictures. Originally we were only going to have one picture there, but Brandi brought out two more to put on the wall. I find it interesting that she wanted a picture of Bella on the wall. Everyone here seems to have an obsession with the woman. Weird.

Shot of the Kitchen Area (http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/7502/buissness4ou4.jpg)

When making this room, we wanted to do two things 1.) Give Brandi as much cooking space as possible 2.) Have a nice place for the family to eat. Our first attempts..... were less than what we had expected. At first, we tried dividing this area in half and having each room with its own floor. Unfortunately, it just didn't look right. On the second try we used a half wall instead, but to the same effect. This trial and error process went on abut eight times until we decided that a nook would be best.
The walls and floor look really nice together in my opinion and it is going to be more pleasant dining at the table now that there is a rug there. The table is set for four, with a high chair for a child. Right now that means Beau, but by the time baby X is born, Beau will be a child and the high chair will be for it.
The doorway and windows may seem odd but there are two reasons for it. 1.) It lets more sunlight into the room and 2.) It shortens Brandi's walk when she is trying to put freshly picked produce into the refrigerator. I have a door in a similar location in my house, not sure about Reiner's home though..... no on ever goes in there.

1/2 Bathroom

Not much to say about this bathroom. Originally, it was where the small office was but after a judge told us that bathrooms should not be next to kitchen/dining room/nook we moved it. It can now be accessed through the living room. It took us ages to figure out where to put it, this was teh best place we could come up with.
Reiner picked the floral tiles. I think he said something about Brandi liking flowers because...... I don't remember. GAH!

Small Office (http://http//img183.imageshack.us/img183/7600/1480zj4.jpg)

It seems oddly place, I know. We had to replace the bathroom with something and this was the only thing that came to mind. Its got one of those modern bookcases against the wall by the door and a small blue computer that matches the floor and wallpaper.

Second Floor
Nursery/Beau's Room

Another Shot of the Nursery (http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/3224/1480sc6.jpg)

Here we have the nursery, Reiner did this room almost completely by himself. I swear though, this kid is going to have gender confusion when he gets older. Anywways, I believe that Reiner chose that shade of yellow because he said it was a calming color. Toys are stacked on a shelf in the corner so that they can be neatly organized and easily given to Beau/Baby X (you have no idea how long it took us to get that jack-in-the-box).
The cribs have two differant beddings so that they can be easily told apart from each other. A kite hangs on the back wall for someone to play with. The ktie actually, is fully usable and I must say so myself that the kite is awesome.

Full (Family) Bathroom

Another Shot of Family Bathroom (http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/2364/contest2iv7.jpg)

A blue color was chosen as the predominant color in this room. The color is suppose to remind the family of water and the ocean according to Reiner, again.

I had the idea of using the half wall to hid the shower. I think it will really be helpful. Once, when I was a toddler, I wanted to suprise my mother. I walked into the bathroom just as she opened the curtain. That day I was not only mentally scarred for life, but my mother discoered there is no nonchalant way to step out of a bathtub with someone staring at you. Hopefully, this wall will serve as a censor bar for Brandi's kids.

Brandi's Room

Another Shot of Brandi's Room (http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4969/apocolypse3hc2.jpg)

Well, here is Brandi's room. One of the first things you will probably notice is the slight pinkish tint to the the room. I was the one who made that decision. After seeing all of Brandi's old pink appliances I came to the realization she liked pink.
We set up a canvas and desk area for Brandi so she can have some fun without her entire family watching. I am sure Brandi will paint some excellant things. She has always looked like a painter to me..... wither that or a cook.

Reiner thought we should put this one plant next to her bed. I think its called a crack dragon. What a stupid name. Anyways, Reiner says its suppose to have a nice efect on the body or something weird like that.

Brandi's Bathroom

Again, nothing much to say here. We chose a darker shade of pink for the whole room and put some flowers in it. Brandi is going to love her bathroom, I just know it!

Dustin's Room

Sitting Area (http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/6347/contest4hf0.jpg)

Center of Room (http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/7035/contest3qt2.jpg)

Bed Area (http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/5111/contest6ug5.jpg)

Well, Dustin's room presented a few problems, one of the larges being its size. The room is directly over the garage and since it didn't look nice when we tried to add another room, long. So long in fact that it left too much unused space at first. We countered this by putting a sitting area and computer in there. It took up space and now Dustin had room to have friends in the room.
Over by the bed and on the desk, we stuck pictures of Angela because it does not take a genius to realize Dustin loves her. The rest of the room really speaks for itself. We added a dresser so Dustin could change his clothing, a mirror to check himself o- I mean get ready in the morning and two end tables so Dustin could put his alarm clock on one of them.

Recolors used
All recolors that I know of came from http://www.piggis-sims.net/. Just look under downloads and then Maxis recolors and you will find what I used. The rugs are recolors of the Oriental Rug.

My scores for the application round have been sent! I'm loving the round 1 entries so far. Let's keep the flow going!

6th Apr 2008, 2:34 AM
WARNING: This is a long post. Scores to be posted soon as I haven't received the scores from 1 judge (got the comments).

Judy Cameron

I wasn't too crazy about the stone on the outside. It was too much of it. The interior was very nice and masculine. The living room was a little bare. It could've used more pictures or something. All in all, it was pretty good.

There's too much going, on on the inside. Remember next round to consolidate your themes. Did that modular sofa come with any EP/SP. As I don't have all of the SPs I'm assuming that the rugs came with GLS. I think you could have put a bit more effort on the outside of the house. Seeing that you used one set of walls for the outside, you should have taken more time to change it up a bit with upstairs or downstairs, or a side of the house, too, usually homes with flat roofs should have one side that's connected from top to bottom have a different type of wall. Although I do like the rest of the landscape, overall it was great.

Great job on your application, your designer is really quite lovely. Your remodel of the Lothario home is very nice, I especially liked your attention to detail. You did a very good job in making it easily maintained, and your use of colour was perfect. I loved the bedroom and the picture of the bikini model- you have captured his style immaculately! The only thing I found lacking was the landscaping, but that's just me Anyhow, great work and I can't wait to see what else you come up with!

Kathleen Morgan and Reiner Andrews

I liked the modern look of the exterior part. The front and backyard is very nice. The interior part was just ok for me. To me, there were too many styles. You did really good on the coloring of the walls and floors.

I love how you placed the Fireplace outside, and I love your use of landscaping on the outside. The inside could have been done nicer, considering there is so much going on. Logically, I'd have to say the only thing I don't think will function well, is the bathroom being next to the kitchen. Say if someone supposedly went to the bathroom during dinner, did their business, which was smelly, you wouldn't want to smell it while eating. Bathrooms are really meant to be a space in the back of the house, or in a seperate area, in my opinion. It looks like you put -some- effort into it. Overall it was alright for me. Next time consider the logistics of a home, even if there are constraints to it, think of something you would like done to your house.

Nice work! I like your use of colour in the livingroom, the red added a lot of warmth to the room. The kitchen is probably my favorite room, you managed to make a very masculane, sensual room - perfect for Don. I also loved your shot of the garden at night. The only suggestion I have is to add a little warmth to the bedroom and perhaps make the garden a bit more lush. Thanks again for the great application and design!

David and Maddy Anderson

The outside is very nice. The kitchen was nice but I don't really like the checkered floor. The bedroom was kind of boring for me. I didn't like the striped walls with the striped bedding very much. Everything else was really good.

Great job on the outside! I love the "paved" theme so to speak. I wish you could have worked on the bathroom or kitchen more. I like the use of flooring; however, I'd try and keep the flooring different for those two rooms. The rooms do function all together. It appears that a lot of effort was put into all of this because the rooms look well planned out, along with the exterior.

Great work! I quite like the design that you have presented, especially the livingroom. The interior brick adds a lot of warmth and masculinity to the room. Also, the shade over the patio was a very good idea and it looks quite nice. You have a very good grasp of design. The only thing that was lacking was a garden! I am a big believer in gardens, but I agree with your reasoning. Once again, nice job!

Dutch Kitch Design

I love the outside of the house! It looks like a mini mansion. The interior was very expensive looking and well decorated. Very nice job.

The exterior is just lovely! I simply love how the hedges can grow out of the rooftops. I just hope Don's equipment doesn't get rained on and rust, but it sure does look entertaining. The inside takes on a great color scheme. The painting looks like a piece of CC, which was agaist the rules. Unless that's a maxis recolor, be careful about recolors. All of the rooms look logically placed as well.I think that you put a lot of effort into this project.

Wow! I love the exterior of this house, the brick and the bushes are gorgeous together. I like the bedroom very much, you made it fit his personality perfectly. I also like that you created an entryway, I find they always make the house classier. The only thing that I didn't like was that the wallpapers seemed a little too busy for my taste, but it worked in the room. Anyway, I absolutely loved your entry and I really want to see more!

Sophie Petite

I don't like the stone on the top story and the paint color of the bottom story very much. Nothing had seemed to go together in the interior part; meaning the furniture, bedding, wall color, flooring, etc. I liked your ecletic style though. The interior seems fun but it just needed the right colors.

I love the eclecticness of the inside, but not so much the outside. If Don's place was a bar, maybe the flamingo lamps would work well with it, it also doesn't fit well because you don't have a theme outside. Its all about coordination, even if the style is eclectic. You also could have worked on the floor plan, too. I have to say though, that the kitchen is my favorite room. Sorta reminds me of an office, but still at the same time is a kitchen. The colors work better here and it's coordinated nicely, as well as the living room. Just a little bit more effort into your exteriors would've given you a higher score.

Great work! This was a great application, I especially like the livingroom (great use of foundation for the tv shelf) and the kitchen. I also love the exposed brick and candles- it really captured his personality. The bedroom is also great, with the leopard print and pop-art print. The only thing I found lacking was the garden, it seemed a bit sparse. All in all, I loved it, especially the moose horns

Lukas Jenkins

I liked the house a lot! Both exterior and interior felt very warm and cozy with its warm inviting colors. It had a very romantic feel to it, which I'm sure will lure all the women successfully. The only thing I didn't like is the checkered flooring in the kitchen. Great job!

This was VERY originally done. I never thought so much space could be done for Don's house. I was confused a bit by the floor plan. Took me a bit to get was going on, on the first floor. After I saw what was going on, your use of split levels really added a nice touch to the house. But I hope don doesn't fall out of the bedroom if he rolls too far, erm... whoohooing. I don't know where that wine rack came from though (the wine rack came from Nightlife -dude)... because I don't have all the stuff packs, but I'll let it slide, since it's quite possibly the only CC you've used. Overall you did awesomely! And is that Dina?

I love it! I like that you demolished the third floor, that was a very good design move. I especially like the bedroom (the two story window is fabulous) and the study nook. Your use of warm, rich colours added a lot to the home. The exterior also looks very nice, I like the swimming pool and hammock. The only suggestion is to make the yard a tad more lush. All in all, great job on your entry and I loved the fact that you had the clients opinion at the end. I amazed that this is your first contest!

Franny Proctor

The house is great! I especially love the bedroom with the leopard print. I like how you didn't over use it. Good job!

Please, next time, do not put mixed up red tiles against red brick! Other than that, I love the landscape. The inside really has openness to it. I love the rusticness of the first floor, and the theme of the second. It looks like effort was put into the interior and exterior, too.

Fabulous job! I love the kitchen are the best, the use of exposed brick and accesories (I love the winerack) is great. I also loved your living area and the study (good use of space), it was very cohesive with the rest of the house. I also like that you added a sloping roof, it changes the feeling of the house quite a lot. The bedroom is a bit busy for my taste and I would like some more plants, but other than that I loved it. keep it up!

Gabriel Nightwood

Gridlines! Remember when taking pictures not to have the camera in buy mode! Next time, it'd be a good idea to have pictures taken in live/options mode where the gridlines won't show. The exterior is wonderfully done though, but some of the plants look dead and unkempt, as well as missing plants. The inside color scheme is great, the furniture matches up nicely, too. I, though would have loved a half wall to be placed in the library, but that's just personal preference. The rooms are logically put, I should mention. Overall, I think you did OK, but I would have loved to see more effort into it.

Love it! I am so impressed with your design ability. I especially like the use of dark colour, with the brick on the outside and the purple in the living area. It gave it a very seductive feel. I like your decision to downsize the kitchen and the fact that the living area is very open. My favorite room is probably the study, it really matches his personality and is very functional while still being gorgeous. The only suggestion I would have is to make the yard a bit more lush. All in all, great job!

Lily Grant

The house was just ok for me. I liked the exterior, but the interior was a little bland. I didn't really like the hardwood floors. The furniture was good, but the wall color was perfect.

I really couldn't tell what was going on the inside, however, I like the simplicity of the landscape on the first floor, the tropicalness does it for me. I don't think moving the bathroom upstairs was a good idea, if you were thinking logically; you don't want to go through a bedroom just to get to the bathroom. Bathrooms should be placed in a common area if there's room for only 1 bathroom. I like your use of color scheme on the inside, though. A smidge more effort could have been put into the house, overall, you did abysmally.

Nice work! I like that you made the living are completely open, it added a lot to the room. I like your modern design and the use of bright colors in the rugs and art. The bedroom looked great, I like that you kept it clean with pops of colour from the bedding and artwork. I also think it was a great idea to add a bedroom to the second floor. The exterior is also very nice, I like the wall covering you chose as well as the ferns. Can't wait to see what else you'll design

Stella La Rue

The outside of the house was totally cute. The inside was very nice. I love the bathroom. The kitchen would've been perfect without the blue overhead cupboards. Very nice job!

Wonderfully done, I must say. He's gonna love the flat screen! I love the woodsiness throughout the house. I love the use of blues, too. Good use of color schemes, and the landscape is immaculate. I think the roofdecks could have been much more occupied. However, please forgive me that I do not know what EP/SP the cabinet came from, unless it's maxis match. Overall, I think you put in a lot of effort into your entry, the colors/textures I believe are the most thought out.

Amazing work! I loved that you picked a color scheme and stuck with it throughout the house. I loved the use of dark wood and the fact that you gave it a club like atmosphere. The bedroom and the bathroom also look great! I think you captured his personality very well, and made the decor appeal to both men and women. The only thing I wasn't a fan of were the blue cabinets. All in all, great job!

Some comments from me:

Follow the CC rules. I have all EPs and SPs, including the Holiday packs so I can spot non-rule compliant CC from a mile away.

Gridlines, Gridlines, Gridlines. Use live or options mode to take pictures. If you absolutely must take pictures in buy mode, toggle design mode first.

Use the Print Screen key. I tell you, your pictures will come out much better.

Have fun! :D

Thank you for posting the scores. I want to post something about trying my hardest to improve, but I don't wnat it to seem like a copy and pasted message.

Everyone has excellant Round One submissions so far.

EDIT: The second sentance sounded better in my head, sorry.

6th Apr 2008, 9:53 AM
Thanks for the comments judges, I think I'm going to go and change a few things in my Round 1 after reading them .
duderocks I have alot of Maxis Match content so if you have any queries about anything in my entries let me know :).

6th Apr 2008, 11:05 AM
Thanks for the comments judges... I'm glad you guys/gals liked my house.

The painting looks like a piece of CC, which was agaist the rules. Unless that's a maxis recolor, be careful about recolors.

Yes, they are all Maxis recolours. (Made by me and downloadable on MTS2.)

Not using CC was in the rules, so I do not use CC.
Next time, when in doubt please ask me instead of guessing what it is, I wouldn't like to confuse anyone.

6th Apr 2008, 12:05 PM
Please, next time, do not put mixed up red tiles against red brick!

?? Can the judge explain why please ??

6th Apr 2008, 12:19 PM
I'm not the judge in question, but maybe it's because it wasn't easy on the eye (got a little dizzy after seeing the exterior (sorry).

6th Apr 2008, 4:22 PM
ok, thanks duderocks.

What is the picture limit for this round? Do you want a picture for each room as well as the front view and floor levels?

6th Apr 2008, 4:34 PM
No picture limit but show the overview of each floor, exterior and the rooms.

6th Apr 2008, 5:00 PM
I don't know where that wine rack came from though [I](the wine rack came from Nightlife -dude

The winerack is actually a juice bar that came with Free Time. And yes, Don was wooing Dina in that picture ;)

I'm getting soo addicted to this thread, I can't seem to stay away from it :p
Thanks for all the great comments judges :D

May I ask what was abysmal about it? I did see that you said some good comments as well as the criticism but to say its abysmal means to me that i did nothing right... that it was just too awful for words. not to be rude but I wonder if you maybe meant a different word, or don't understand the meaning of abysmal? As for the bathroom, I placed it upstairs because that seems to be where most of Don's guests would probably be, outside on the deck or up on the top in the hot tub... I know that I wouldn't want to trek down three stories just to go to the bathroom.

Thank you to the other judges (and for the good comments from judge two). I appreciate them!

I just bought Pets and University. (I was going to get Free Time and Bon Voyage, but the other was a better deal.) I am posting this just in case the host/judges need to know.

I am seeing if I can improve the house with these expansions. Also, I have to fix the bathroom/dining room. I put the two next to each other again. GAH!

"Judy Cameron

Did that modular sofa come with any EP/SP. As I don't have all of the SPs I'm assuming that the rugs came with GLS."

It is not a modular sofa, it is a sofa from the Life Stories items, which are allowed. If you mean the rug in the living room, then yes it is a recolor of GLS rug, if you are asking about the rug in the bedroom, It is from the Life Stories items also.
Thank you for all the nice coments judges!

6th Apr 2008, 11:59 PM
I think maybe for the next round it would be easier on the judges if we told them which recolours and maxis match items we used... I think for some who don't have all the expansions etc. things would get too confusing otherwise.. ;)

7th Apr 2008, 12:08 AM
Great idea, it should make it easier on the judges.

I've added all my pictures to my Round One (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=1163288&postcount=115) entry, I just need to add the descriptions now, which I'll complete tomorrow.

Also, I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying this contest. It's great to see each of our own takes on the maxis houses. Great work everyone!!!

I don't like the stone on the top story and the paint color of the bottom story very much. Nothing had seemed to go together in the interior part; meaning the furniture, bedding, wall color, flooring, etc. I liked your ecletic style though. The interior seems fun but it just needed the right colors.

was kinda the style i was going for; quirky & colourful. but hey, your the judges - its whether you like it or not :P. just thought it would be more visually interesting to look at, rather than a continuous monotone theme throughout the house. just wanted it too look fun.

I love the eclecticness of the inside, but not so much the outside. If Don's place was a bar, maybe the flamingo lamps would work well with it, it also doesn't fit well because you don't have a theme outside. Its all about coordination, even if the style is eclectic. You also could have worked on the floor plan, too.

i love the flamingo neons!
flamingo's are a sims classic!
i agree though, i was just under the pretence that the floor plan had to stay pretty much the same. so i just left it. even though i know thats not the case now, so wish i would of realised earlier .

I have to say though, that the kitchen is my favorite room. Sorta reminds me of an office, but still at the same time is a kitchen. The colors work better here and it's coordinated nicely, as well as the living room. Just a little bit more effort into your exteriors would've given you a higher score.

thanks, kitchen was my favourite room too.

All in all, I loved it, especially the moose horns

thanks for the critique, a bit of constructive critisism to take on to further rounds. its all been taken into account :) thanks for the praise too.. moose horns are great yes.

Great idea. I'll add that to the rules. While I can easily spot them, not all judges have everything.

Brandi Brake's Dream Home: Brandi's house needed more space for her growing family, so by adding a second story and a few bumpouts, the house size is increased and the home becomes more interesting to look at. Bye-bye trailer! (Maxis match Open Me windows and doors by Windkeeper)

Back Yard View (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/BrandisHouseback.jpg)

Main Level Floor Plan:

Upper Level Floor Plan:

Living Room: The living room is livened up by the new sofa and arm chairs. The upholstery is in a fun fabric that can withstand her boys. Including more seating was a must, since there was only the one chair before. Now guests will be encouraged to linger in the new living room. (Recolors of rug, lamp, painting, entertainment center, and curtain. Maxis match doors, value sofa matching loveseat and chair, not a recolor.)

Another view (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/Branilivingroom.jpg)

Kitchen: The kitchen features natural wood cabinetry with crisp black counters. Updated appliances and an island give the kitchen much needed updates that are practical as well as aesthetically pleasing. (Maxis matching seasons appliances and upper cabinetry, recolor of counters.)

Dining Room: Plenty of seating is provided for Brandi's expanding family. The colors are kept warm and inviting so the family can enjoy spending time aroung the dining table. (Maxis matching seasons arm chair, bench, table, and Maxis match two-tile curtains. Recolors of rug, table flowers, and painting.)

Brandi's Bedroom: Brandi's bedroom needed some elegance. The cream bedding with matching curtains add a richness to the room. Accents of black on the furniture and white window frames contrast nicely with the warmth provided by the textiles and paint color. The overall effect hormonizes well and will give Brandi a nice relaxing retreat. ( Maxis match table lamps and curtains. Recolors include the bed, bedding, rug, painting and maybe the armiore.)
Another View (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/Brandibedrm2.jpg)

And Bathroom: This bathroom is on the main floor with access to Brandi's bedroom. Clean white beadboard pannels are applied to the walls. A large bay window takes advantage of the natural daylight but can be made private by closing the drapery. The fabrics are feminine, and warm up the white walls with their deep red tones. (Maxis match seasons stool. Recolors of curtain, bathtub, towels, and rug.)

Dustin's Bedroom: Dustin's room is fit for a teenage boy on the verge of becoming a man. He has privacy in his own room, with a TV and radio he can enjoy by himself, and a desk to do his school work. (Maxis match curtains with a recolor.)

Nursery: The nursery can grow with the younger boys, with a big boy bed ready and waiting for Beau to use. The crib will be needed again very soon with the arrival of the new baby boy. The little ones have a craft table and a bug box for curious little kiddos to explore in. (Maxis match curtains, recolors of bedding, curtain, freetime nursery recolors, and nightlife rug.)

Brandi strikes me as a country-girl at heart, and that is where the inspiration for my design came from. The main living areas of the house are warm and comfy, and are decorated in pastel, Easter-y colors. With 2 boys and a third on the way, I knew this house couldn't be filled with lots of trinkets and stuffy nick-nacks and furniture, so there's lots of room to run around and rough-house and not worry about breaking anything!

The house is very inviting from the outside, with the bench and cute windows.
Recolors: fence, modular stairs, Maxis-match windows, chimney exterior

Ground floor aerial

Second floor aerial

Living room
Big-screen TV for the boys, lovely colors for Brandi.
Recolors: loveseats, rug, light-wood framed picture, Maxis-match coffee table

A small-but-practical kitchen with lots of room so Brandi can make many meals for her growing boys.
Recolors: counters, Maxis-match cupboards, fridge, stove

Dining area
Again, this space is small-but-practical. Besides, this family strikes me as the type to eat dinner in front of the TV ;)
Recolors: table, chairs

There are 2 desks in this room, for homework and surfing the internet/playing computer games. The well-stocked bookshelves provide many hours of bedtime stories.
Recolors: desk, chairs, rug

Ground floor bathroom
The main floor bathroom sees the most traffic, and is easy-to-clean with it's tiled floor and walls.
Recolors: counters, curtains, rug, shower

Brandi's bedroom
A feminine retreat for the only girl in the house.
Recolors: bedframe, bedding, curtains

Brandi's bathroom
Brandi's bathroom - bonus shot (http://pics.livejournal.com/coldfloral/pic/000whhyt)
A fluffy pink bathroom for Brandi.
Recolors: curtains, rug, vanity, painting

Dustin's bedroom
Video games and music in their room should make any teen happy!
Recolors: rug, dresser, curtain, bedding

Beau & baby's bedroom
A green delight for the youngest Brokes, with lots of room for play.
Recolors: rug, curtains, dresser, bedframe, bedding

Second floor bathroom (http://pics.livejournal.com/coldfloral/pic/000wb3q2)
Recolors: rug, curtains

Second floor bonus area (top of stairs) (http://pics.livejournal.com/coldfloral/pic/000wgt64)
Recolors: chess table, chairs

I wanted to continue the relaxed theme of the interior to the backyard. It's low-maintanance, and kid-friendly, without lots of plants to fuss over. A pool for the big kids, and a sandbox (background) for the little one.
Recolors: modular stairs

Great entries everyone! Judges, BE PREPARED...

Only three more contestants didn't submit their entries yet. You have until tomorrow, 11:59 PM to do so. The rest may change anything they want to change until the said deadline.

Please take note of the new rule: Everyone must indicate any CC used (recolors, Maxis Match items, etc.), except walls and floors.

It's from the base game, actually.

After I had finished my work on Don's house a second member of the Pleasantview community came to ask for my re-building help.

This time it was Brandi Broke, who recently suffered a great loss when her husband died in a suspicious pool-accident. Luckily Skip left her behind with quite an amount of money, because, of course, a single mum with two boys and a little girl on the way cannot live in a trailer when she wants to get everything out of life that she deserves...

Brandi didn't have much requests. Only that she needed better household appliances, wanted to expand the house and needed prettier things to look at. So, I asked Brandi and the boys about their favorite colours and hobbies, bulldozed the trashy trailer and build her a tiptop townhouse.

I used Maxis Match:
- Independent expressions window add-ons by MaryLou.
- Atomic age set add-ons by simaddict99 and/or Ailias.
- Nova Jazz painting recolours by me.
- Storybook nursery add-ons by simaddict99.
- Curtain add-ons by Ignorantbliss (I think.)

Ground floor:

Second floor and landscaping:

Downstairs hallway:
The hallway with two adjacent bathrooms (most used by the boys) gives access to the kitchen, livingroom and second floor.

A large kitchen to spend time baking cookies and share a homemade dinner.

A classic style in neutral blue/ grey and greens to complement the hardwood floors and furniture.

Here the boys can make their homework while Brandi can keep an eye on them. With large worktable, computer, bookcase and a lazy chair to read in at hand, Dustin and Beau will have an A+ in no time.

Upstairs hallway:

Brandi's bedroom:
Brandi wanted a bedroom that was truly her own space. Feminine colours, a vanity table, a private bathroom and balcony make this room just the place where she can relax and come to her senses when the kids have gone to bed.

Brandi's bathroom:

Dustin's bedroom:
Dustin lives for his music and the waves. His bass-guitar is his pride and joy. The surfboard on the wall is ready for that long anticipated Twikki vacation.

Beau's bedroom:
Beau's favorite colour is green, he likes to paint and his favorite game is 'Carcassonne'. He was very explicit about it. Now he can sit between the medieval villages of his choice while drawing knights clad in armour.

An easy to use nursery for the 4th Broke to come.

A glass roofed terrace gives access to the garden. Where the boys can shoot hoops all day long while Brandi tends to her vegetable garden.

Allright hope you all like it. I've seen some great round 1 entries so far. This is gonna be horribly hard on the judges.

It was really hard to pick with a picture limit of only (lol) 15 pictures, so, even more pictures can be found here (http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y212/debworld/sims/maxismakeovercontest/brandybroke/?albumview=grid).
Do have a look.

Home Makeover Desperation: A family in need

My oh my, this family was indeed in need of my help. The trailer just had to go, so I had team of constructers demolish the house and build a new one for the broke family. While all this was happening I arranged for a special suprise for the family, in another addition to their numbers: A little dog called otis.
Front view
Backyard (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_75090c88.jpg)
a little barbeque area, for those summer afternoons. Note the balcony with the telescope, that's for dear little Beau.
Side view
Side view (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_75090c4b.jpg)
And this is Otis's outside home, in the summer's he sleeps there. There's also a swing installed, for some family fun. And a couple of orchard trees, to entertain Brandi on a boring sunday afternoon. If she has any that is.
Ground floor
For the first floor I went with the essential every family needs, but then enlarged. The family had been living in a tiny box for all these years, so they deserved some space. There is also a seperate big kitchen, for brandi, and a cozy dining room for the entire family. The living room is extra large, and has a crib for baby three.
First floor
On the second floor we have all the bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Every member of the family now has a bedroom for him/herself, for if they want some peace and quiet. Brandy now has her own bathroom, since she needs some extra special time for her alone and the bath is an excellent place to sort your thoughts.

Tour of the house:Ground floor
Hallway2 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_75090d52.jpg)
The hallway is the center of a house, and thus this one connects to most of the parts of the house. A good sturdy staircase is installed as wel as a little area to sit and call.
Dining room
Dining room2 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_95090d20.jpg)
A dining room equipped for four people. With baby three on the way, a high chair was also needed and thus put in. The main theme is blue and beige, a nice soft colour to inspire calm. Let's hope dinners won't be as hectic as they were before
Kitchen2 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_75090d35.jpg)
The kitchen has been enlarged. Now Brandi has ample space to cook good food for her family. No more take-away pizza, gourmet is all the rage. I went with a country feel for this, because it gives the room a home-y feel.
Study 2 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_75090e88.jpg)
Brandi might be an at home mom, this does not mean she does not work. She is actively researching and cross-referencing in the hopes of coming up with a good plot for a novel. Let's hope she succeeds.
Meet Otis
Meet Otis, the family's fifth addition. I thought a dog would be a good influence on Dustin and Beau. Now they can both learn some responsibility and hopefully Dustin will see that being a criminal at such a young age is not a way to start your future.
Living room
The living room is done in green, to give it a nature and calm vibe. A television set has been installed to keep the family busy in the evenings. And to give Brandi's her cooking shows.
Living room 2 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_b5090ea8.jpg)
This is a part of the living room where a nursery is installed. Sometimes it's handy to have one extra. Otherwise the poor little ones end up on the floor, and who knows where that floor has been.
Living room 3 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_95090ec1.jpg)
A fish tank is always a big hit with kids, especially todlers. But even adults might spend hours at a time just watching those exotic fish swimming around. A little play area has been set up, so that the children can play and Brandi can keep an eye on them.

Tour of the house:First floor
Brandi's room
Brandi's room2 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_b5090f05.jpg)
Brandi's room is done in red and orange, because she's a closet romantic. It also gives a rustic feel to the room, in which she now can dream away quitely at night.
Brandi's had a though time, and she does need the added stress of having to wait for her son's to use the bathroom. That's why she has her own, so she can escape into her own little world if she ever needs to.
Beau's room
Beau's room 2 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_75090f57.jpg)
Beau, is a young spirited child. And what young child doesn't love aliens. Ever since Dustin let him borrow his star wars he's been hooked on everything green, and everything space-y.
Dustin's room
Dustin's room 1 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_55090f72.jpg)
Dustin's room2 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_f5090f63.jpg)
Dustin wants to become a criminal mastermind as we all know, but he's only got one master plan once he succeeds: retire and travel. I tried to bring a bit of his dream to him and gave his room a bright beachy look.
Main bathroom
Main Bathroom (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_55090f79.jpg)
This is the main bathroom, done in blues, since the house is mainly inhabited by men. Who knows, it might calm them down a bit.
Nursery1 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_15090f86.jpg)
Baby room 2 (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x258/eruwenfuin/snapshot_2dae7a30_75090f8e.jpg)
Baby three, since the dear doesn't have a name yet, is nearly due. Therefore the small one needs a room. I decorated it with some lovely baby stuff from Disney and Warner brothers, who decided to sponsor this house. I went with a blue and yellow theme, but if the baby turns out to be a girl, we've got some extra wallpaper in the van :D

Note on the recolours:
- Paintings are recolours of Maxis paintings: mainly the big lady in red.
- bedding is from Lasciel at MTS2
- Curtains are two tiled versions of the Victorian drapes that have been linked to the beddings, by ignorantbliss at MTS2
- sofa and little lounge thingie's are from N99forumpaks maxis match collection
- Baby room rugs and paintings are recolours made by me and are downloadable at my MTS2 accoutn (see sig)
- anything else I might have forgotten is either form Piggi-sims, N99, or just recolours from MTS2. Please PM me if your are unsure about something, I have most of it clearly labeled in my downloads folder.

Happy simming!

Are all our entries in? Think 1 is still missing...

I really love all the different styles of houses that have been build so far. I'm getting so many new ideas from this contest.... I am seeing styles and mixes I would have never thought about using before. And all those ugly unused pleasantview houses in my game finally have a purpose.

Can't wait for round 2.. if I am still in.

ditto on that. i've never been much of a fan of custom content, and i think this competition proves that you don't need it for houses to look great. all the makeover's are looking pretty sweet i must say.

I'm starting to agree with you on this. I never knew half of the maxis stuff existed until this contest (i'm a CC junkie) but now I'm going to make a point of using more maxis recolours as there really are some great meshes in the game already.

Yes, I did. :) Sorry I wasn't able to reply to your PM that time.

9th Apr 2008, 5:53 AM
Heh, sorry I'm late(ish)! All cc is listed below each picture in parentheses.

For the Broke's I tried not to overwhelm them too much. Just a small house with a decent backyard was all they really needed so this is what I came up with for them
(Walls and floortiles. Windows and doors from Marylou's Independent Expressions Set)

For the entry (which is part of the livingroom) we went with more simplicity. The computer is right by the front door and we put a coat rack and a chair to put on and off shoes and such.
(Walls & Floors. Door and windows as mentioned above)

The livingroom flows from the front door well with light wood finishes on everything and a big entertainment center for family movie nights. A bookcase provides Dustin with a study source as well as books for Brandi to read to the little ones.
(Walls & Floors)

The kitchen boasts full appliances and a perfect table for family dinners. The counters are green tile with medium wood cabinets and there is a dishwasher AND a trash compactor.
(Walls & Floors, Fridge is from Life Stories, Windows as mentioned)

Dustin's room is simple (and messy!) We went with blue and brown in here with a computer for him to do his homework and a TV and game system to relax with. We also gave him a weight machine so that he can keep his body up for Angela.

(Walls & Floors, Bedding, and Sweeny Todd recolor of "They Call It Football" poster from University)

For Beau & the unknown baby's room we went with a Fosters Home for Imaginary Friend's theme (kinda). Since Beau is still a toddler and the new baby on the way, we left this room simple so that they can add on to it as they grow.
(Walls & Floors, Bedding, Foster's recolors of Parrot poster, recolors of Grilled Cheese poster *on the left wall*)

We tried to bring out Brandi's feminine side with her room. Touches of pink are everywhere along with nice hardwood furniture. Theres a vanity for getting ready for work and a sewing table for earning that little bit extra.

(Walls & Floors, Recolors of Bon Voyage Hotel bed, and recolors of "Sim City by night".

We wanted to make the backyard a place where the whole family could relax. We put a pool in (and cemented the ladders down so there won't be any more "accidents") and put out some lounge chairs. Theres a grill for the summer nights and a swing set for Beau and the new one.

(Walls & Floors, windows as mentioned above, swing set is a pre order item from seasons, and grill is from Life Stories stuff)

1. Stella La Rue (coldfloral) – 100+92+95=287

Comment - Awesome house! Very nicely decorated and i love the layout! The outside of the house has a very nice color! Awesome job!

Amazing work! First of all, the exterior is lovely and I think the yard is perfect. The living room is also very nice, I love the light, airy feel it has. The kitchen and dining area is also gorgeous. I love Brandi's room and bathroom, they look like a very nice retreat. Beau's room is also really cute!

The best house I have ever seen here. I liked the messy clothes you put on the boys’ rooms. Love the airy feel to the house, too

2. David and Maddy Anderson (romyhorse) – 87+95+93=275

Comment - The outside is cute, however I wasn't too crazy about the stone. It makes it a little too busy to me. The inside was very lovely. I love the kitchen! Good job!

Will you never cease to amaze me? The exterior is perfect, I love the brick as well as the double stairway. I also absolutely love the kitchen and dining area, they look very homey and comfortable. Brandi's room is perfect for her, and I love the blue colour scheme. I also like how you did Dustins 'adult' room and the twins room, they look very livable. I am amazed at your work, keep it up.

I loved the kitchen, dining room, and the boys’ rooms (esp. Dustin’s room, very manly). Outside area is great, too.

3. Judy Cameron (CiaoAlora) – 90+92+90=272

Comment - I loved the house! The interior was cute and all the bedrooms were a nice size for each child. Very nice work!

Wow, I love it! Gorgeous exterior, I love the octagonal room and the blue siding. I love the kitchen and dining area, it is homey without being too messy. The color scheme in Brandi's room is quite lovely, as is the attaching bathroom. The nursery is also positively adorable! I loved the use of curtains throughout the house, it made it feel so much more real. It really does seem like Brandy's dream home.

WOW! At the kitchen and Brandi’s bathroom. Dustin’s room is kinda bare for me, however. Overall, good job.

4. Lukas Jenkins ([email protected]) – 88+92+89=269

Comment - I love the exterior of the house! Very country and chique. The interior is very coutry and chique too. Nice job!

Wow! I am amazed! I love the exterior and the pond in the yard. I really like the living area, the shades of brown and green are perfect. I also absolutely love the kitchen! Brandi's room and adjoining bathroom are gorgeous and matche her personality. 92/100

Love the exterior! Kitchen is very nice, too (the best among all of the rooms in your house). Other rooms are nice, too. Good!

5. Gabriel Nightwood (eruwenfuin) – 90+86+87=263

Comment - I didn't really like the blue on the exterior of the house, but the inside was cute. It really had that country feel and all the rooms were nicely decorated.

Amazing work! I love the hallway, it is very realistic for a family and it feels very livable. The kitchen and dining area is also quite lovely, and has a very homey, comfortable feel. I also love Dustin's room, it has a nice airy feel to it.

Good work! I like Beau’s room and the hallway. I’m not really a fan of Brandi’s room. Too dark. It will look better if you add some light colors here and there as accent.

6. Dutch Kitch Design (appelsapgodin) – 85+85+90=260

Comment - The outside was very nice. The inside was very good! Nicely decorated.

Stunning work! I love the exterior landscaping as well as the terrace, it looks like a real yard. On the interior, I liked your use of classic architecture and colours. The kitchen and dining area is very classy. I love Beau's bedroom and the nursery, they are both so comfortable and childlike. Also, Brandi's bathroom is the most beautiful I've ever seen.

The exterior was okay, but inside…WOW! I actually imagined myself living there.

7. Franny Proctor (I.nfectious) – 90+82+87=259

Comment - I wasn't too crazy about the grey on the outside of the house but the structure is very nice. The layout is great and the colors are cute. Very nice job!

Great job! I absolutely love the conservatory and the colour scheme you used throughout the living area. I also love the family bathroom, it is very crisp and clean. The boys room is also very nice, as is the nursery. Brandi's room and bathroom are also gorgeous, I love the rich tones and prints you used. 82/100

I like how this house has a more homey feel to it. Looks warm and cozy. Great job!

8. Lily Grant (photo) – 88+81+85=254

Comment - The house was really cute! The only thing is that the teenager's room didn't seem very functional with the way the furniture was arranged. All in all, you did a great job!

Great job! I love the exterior, it has a very classy and modern feel to it. I love the red interior walls and the use of bright artwork. The kitchen and dining area is quite nice. Brandi's room is adorable and I love the colour scheme.

Loving the color scheme here. Also just noticed that your aerial shot doesn’t have objects on it, though. Other than that, loving the modern feel of the exterior.

I’m sorry to these two people though: They are ELIMINATED!

9. Sophie Petite – 85+70+88=243

Comment - The outside was nice. The interior seemed very functional. Very nice job!

Good job! I love the exterior colour as well as the pond in the yard. I also love the upstairs patio and sitting area. The kitchen is also very nice, I love the wood tones you used. Overall, it feels very homey and livable.

I like the wood tones you used. That sage with light wood wallpaper has always been a favorite of mine. Like your landscaping too.

10. Kathleen Morgan and Reiner Andrews – 85+70+80=230

Comment - I really like the exterior part, although the garage looks like its not fully covered by the roof. The inside is really cute. Good job!

Great job, you really did good! I especially like the dining and cooking area, the rich wood tones you used are perfect. I also think you did a great job on the bathrooms, they look very realistic and you have great commentary. I think that rooms are a bit big, but other than that, great job!

I like how you integrated the colors, and your exterior. However, the interior seemed plain and dull to me. Liking the bathrooms, though. Overall, it's good, but It could be better.

Sorry, Game Shark and LOZOTRON. Goodbye and good luck in future contests. :D

Game Shark
11th Apr 2008, 2:58 AM
Well, I cannot say I am suprised. It was a pleasure to compete while it lasted. I' am going to keep joining building contests. I want to be able to build nice homes. Good luck to everyone still in the competition! Everything looks wonderful so far and I can tell this is going to be a difficult contest to judge.

Just a note on the roof though, the game would not let me extend the roof all of the way to the other wall. No matter what I tried it would not let me. In the end, I covered the rest with a black tile hoping it would not be noticed.

11th Apr 2008, 3:06 AM
Aww, sad to see you go Game Shark and LOZOTRON. I thought you both did very well :)

ROUND 2: Dream On

Unlike Round 1, you must apply the exterior rules applied to the application round. Which means, we have to "see" the general structure of the house (save for a few adjustments). What you did to the Lothario's house during the apps, you will do it here.

In other words, this rule:

5. You should retain at least 75%-80% the actual exterior structure (which means, you may change the structure of the walls a little bit, but the general structure of the original house must be retained)

However you may change the wall covering, roof color and shape, the doors, the windows, and things like fences, columns, etc.

EDIT: For the art room, it can be inside, or a little art shack outside, as long as it contains Darren's art materials.
Oh, and in the request part, it's supposed to be "An old tree doesn't do her spirit justice,." Not wall.

Deadline for Round 2 entries is on April 16, 11:59 PM, my time. NO EXTENSIONS! Pretty stripped for time.

11th Apr 2008, 10:26 PM
good luck everyone :) i've only just realised i'm out. it's been a lot of fun anyway :elephant:

Dream On

Front View of the house:
For the exterior of the house, I updated the windows, siding and roof, including a change in the roof slope to allow more windows on the second story of the house. The landscaping got a makeover as well with new shrubbery and trees, and greener grass. A swimming pool and basketball court were added to the backyard for entertainment. (Maxis Matching indepentdent expressions windows and doors. Recolored columns.)

Floor Plan:

Upper Floor Plan:

Backyard view:
In the back, a small art studio was built for Darren. There is a little enclosed garden beside it, with a locking gate, that I relocated Darleen's grave to. It offers protection and a beautiful resting place for Darren's late wife.

Living Room:
Another view in the Living Room (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/Dreamerliving.jpg)
The living room reflects the masculine side of the Dreamer household. Now that there are just the two men in the home, I needed to show the rich masculine colors and textures that the men are so fond of. They have plenty of books and a TV to keep them occupied in comfort and style here. (Recolors of loft curtains, rug, sculptural vase and the Freetime sofa and chair, Maxis matching plant on the TV.)

For the kitchen, I completely changed what they previously had by updating the cabinetry in a crisp white and added contrast through color. I thought complimentry colors would set the tone for an artists kitchen, so the red and green color scheme plays well here. (Recolored curtains and cabinetry, Maxis match upper cabinetry.)

Dining Room:
Because the dining room shares a space with the kitchen, I kept the colors simular as well. (Recolors of the loft curtain, nightlife picture and OFB fencing, Maxis match chairs.)

Dirk Dreamer's Bedroom:
Dirk enjoys learning new things, just like his father, so he has a bedroom designed after the things that interest him. He loves to play basketball like a typical teenaged boy, so it is sports themes and electronics; the new computer in his room with the latest games made him very happy. (Recolor of the bedding, and Maxis match loft curtain, extracted books, and Lifestories bed.)

Dirk's Bathroom:
(Recolored sink towels, mirror, curtains, and toilet. Maxis shower stall with the walls removed.)

Darren Dreamer's Bedroom:
Darren wanted a place that reflected his creative side. Purple wallpaper will put him in a creative mood along with the different textures and colors used throughout his room. He also has a nice lounge chair for daydreaming or just taking a nap. (Recolorsof bedding, grass in the vase, curtains and rug. Maxis lost and found painting. Maxis match lounge chair.)

Darren's Bathroom:
For Darren's bathroom, the white and blue color scheme help to create a clean space. A double vanity and shower/tub combo fit the practicle side of Darren. Personalized artwork hanging on the wall give the room warmth. (Recolored curtains, toilet, mirror, cabinetry, and towel. Maxis shower/tub with the walls removed.)

Darren's Art Studio:
The studio was relocated to a new building designed especially for the purpose. Darren has a space where he can paint without worry of making a mess. The mess can stay here and he has a sink for easy cleanup before heading back to the main house. Plenty of supplies and work space is provided, and he can also learn to make pottery with the new potters wheel I've included. (Recolored sink and paint easel.)

15th Apr 2008, 4:50 AM
Round 2 ends tomorrow. And only one has their entry in. :(
Better get those entries by the 16th, everyone. :)

I'll extend the deadline from midnight to 2:30 AM, so you will have more time to finish your entries.

15th Apr 2008, 4:59 AM
I must have scared everyone away by my "awesome" decorating skillz! :D

15th Apr 2008, 7:13 AM
You guys are doing a great job with the Maxis Home Make Overs....I hope you do another one in about 3 months :D......

Overhead view of garden. (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/dd3.jpg)

The garden is nice landscaped but easy to keep, no flowerbeds that need attending to. It's a big garden so there was room for a basketball hoop for Dirk, as well as Darleen's memorial garden.

Ground Floor

As Darren is an artist we thought he wouldn't mind having a more unusual layout to his house so we have switched the rooms around and have put the bedrooms downstairs, along with his artist studio.

First Floor

Onthe first floor there is a small but practical kitchen, a cloakroom and a large living area, perfect for entertaining or just relaxing.

The hallway is a warm, inviting room with a small seating area and staircase to the first floor to the right.

Another view. (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/dd16.jpg)

Maxis match mirror from Sirona Sims

Inner hallway. (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/dd1.jpg)

The inner hallway provides access to the bedrooms and Darren's studio and provides the perfect place to showcase some of his paintings, away from the destructive sunlight.

Darren's Bedroom

The darkwood is quite masculine so we added a nice print over the bed and tropical print lampshades to soften it a bit, just in case he ever has any lady friends visiting.

Tables from Life Stories, painting Maxis recolours, bed Piggi Sims recolour.

Bathroom (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/dd2.jpg)

Both bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom.

Dirk's Bedroom

We have given Dirk a sporty bedroom with space for entertaining his friends. We've also given him a desk so he has a place to study.

Another view. (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/dd14.jpg)

Maxis match glass shelves from Sims2Code.

Darren's Studio

We have given Darren a variety of media to express his art so he can experiment a bit and see what suits his style best. We made sure the studio faces north, as that provides the best light for painting, and there are full-length windows and sliding doors onto the verandah at the back of the house so he can paint outdoors when the weather is nice.

Another view. (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/dd11.jpg)

Maxis match table from N99 forums.

Heading upstairs we come to the kitchen. It is modern and practical, ample for Darren and Dirk. At one end there is a breakfast bar for them to eat at if they don't want to use the dining table.

Another view. (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/dd8.jpg)

Coffee machine Life Stories, clock recolour Ailias at MTS2.

Living Area

Moving through into the living area, Darren wanted someplace to entertain, but he didn't specify whether he was entertaining the ladies or if he wanted somewhere for a boys night in. So we gave him both! There is a small dining nook for romantic candlelit dinners for two...

... and there is a comfortable sofa, perfect for snuggling up on to watch a movie, or for playing video games with the boys.

To relax and unwind we have given him an electric guitar (but we made sure we added extra sound-proofing first!) and there is also a poker table so if his art isn't selling well he can try and earn a bit of money with the cards.

And we also added a balcony so they can enjoy the outdoors even from upstairs. There is a barbecue for the summer and a comfortable bench with a beautiful view of the garden.

And finally, Darleen's memorial garden. We kept it in the same place as we thought it would be too traumatic for Darren and Dirk if we dug her up and moved her! So instead we put a high wall round the garden to given them privacy and made a quiet, tranquil place for them to sit and remember Darleen. There is a small pond with koi carp and we planted some of Darleen's favourite flowers. We used trellis to separate this off from the rest of the garden but still keep it visible.

Duderocks, I am very sorry but I gotta drop out of this contest, 'cos my bloody stupid roommate 'forgot' to pay the internet bill. So, now my desktop comp (on which the sims is) is cut off from the world wide web. I paid the bill today, but the provider said it's going to take at least 3 days until we are reconnected. (And knowing them that might even be longer.)

I could post from my laptop from here (at a friends house), but it's a bit of a hassle to do so (since my laptop is an apple ibook, desktop is windows) and I am rather busy organizing all the other, more important --sorry-- stuff I have to do online for work today and tomorrow.

So now I am going to kill my homie and offer his limbs to the gods of the internet.. and I wish the rest of you guys/gals much, much luck in continuing this contest.

15th Apr 2008, 4:00 PM
Oh dear. Uhm Duderocks, I got some bad news too. I'm currently lying in bed with a fever, and mucus going everywhere. This is the first time I've seen the computer, or rather laptop, since saturday or so.

So I am terribly sorry, but I will not be able to continue the contest, because I'll probably be sick the entire week or so, thus not able to play sims 2.

God I feel like a *** now. Anyways. I wish all of you the best of luck with it all and rock some designer buttocks! :D

15th Apr 2008, 4:03 PM

We Dutchies seem to be having a stroke of bad luck, maybe because it will be full moon in a few days? Hope you get well soon.

15th Apr 2008, 4:18 PM
Aww...sorry to see you two go. Hopefully, no one will drop out later/tomorrow. :(

appelsapgodin, my internet provider sucks too, tech support is always busy...and get well soon, eruwenfuin.

For the rest, no eliminations for this round, and possibly Round 3 if we get more dropouts.

Indeed...d*mn that moon. And I hope so as well. And your roommate...woah I'd slaughter them with something blunt :P. I cannot live without my interenet. And thanks duderocks :D. Well at the very least we did something for the community Appelsap, no eliminations for the rest of the contestants. :P.

And coldfloral, I totally dig that stripey pattern you have going on there :D.

15th Apr 2008, 11:25 PM
I'm going to finish my entry now, So i'll definitely have it up before the deadline.

I hope you feel better soon eruwenfuin

I just have to say I LOVE your decorating style. It strikes the perfect balance between being appeallingly cluttered and playable. And using only Maxis decorations too. Wow.

For the remaining contestants: Indicate in your next round entry if you have objects from the Kitchen and Bath Design Stuff Pack, so the judges will take it into consideration. I just installed the pack, so it will take me some time to familiarize myself with the objects. :)

Yikes! Sorry Duderocks, I didn't realise the round closed at this time, I thought I had a few hours yet. I worked a late one tonight and have just got home, sadly when you're self employed you don't always have a set working pattern, Nevermind, So long as I make it to the next round I'm happy & I promise to get my entry fully completed next time!

17th Apr 2008, 12:37 AM
Whoops! Sorry bout that. I meant to put descriptions in, guess I just forgot... lol guess we know who'll be last this round!

17th Apr 2008, 6:00 AM
I'll post Round 3 later. I'm only waiting for 1 judge. But since there will be no eliminations, you can start with round 3 as soon as I post it. ;)

Round 3: Pleasantly Love

This is one of the most challenging rounds. A large lot plus a lot of requirements for the house.

Round ends on April 22, 11:59 PM GMT +8. Better start as early as you can.

Unless we have dropouts, one person will leave us after this round. Good luck.

17th Apr 2008, 3:24 PM
Do you need to be able to see the original structure? Or can we rebuild?

18th Apr 2008, 12:07 AM
Oh, I forgot to include it in the post. Same rules applied to round 2 for the structure. So, you must retain the overall structure, save for some adjustments.

EDIT: For the activity area, the gym may be any spot in the activity area with at least 2 exercise equipments (treadmill, bench press, punching bag, etc.)

18th Apr 2008, 3:40 AM
No eliminations, so all five will move to the third round.

1. David and Maddy Anderson: 89+85+87=261
I really like what you did with the exterior, I love the brick. The interior is also lovely, but I’m not too fond of the layout. I especially like the bedrooms and I love Darleens grave, it seems to do her justice.

The house was cute and perfect for the two of them. The only thing I wasn't too crazy about was all that wood. It kind of made the house a little plain. Other than that, I loved it.

The house was good, but didn’t really make me go “Wow!” Maybe it’s the wood flooring you uses in the entire house. But, you did great.

2. Judy Cameron: 87+85+88=260
I quite like the exterior of your house, you managed to keep the original character while still upgrading it. I particularly like the dining and living areas, your use of colour is very nice. I also like the bedrooms a lot.

This house was great! I loved the exterior of the house. I loved the art studio and Darleen's grave area! Awesome job!

Lovely house. Integration of colors, the art studio, the masculine living room, everything. Great work!

3. Lily Grant: 82+85+85=252
Nice work! I really like the exterior, it feels very homey. I really like the office, living room, and Dirks bedroom. Your use of color was perfect. I also like that you gave them space to expand with the empty room. Nice job.

The house was very nice! I loved the art studio and Darleen's grave area. Good job!

Nice work! This is quite an improvement over your Round 1. Great idea on the empty room.

4. Stella La Rue: 82+85+84=251
I am very impressed with the exterior of the house, it has a nice comfortable feel to it. I really love the living area, especially the kitchen. The bedrooms are also very nice, they have a nice ambience. I also really like the grave site, the pond and stepping stones are very nice.

The rooms were nicely decorated and the art studio was great! Darleen's grave area looked very peaceful. Great job!

Great rooms! It’s comfy, yet masculine at the same time. Good!

5. Franny Proctor: 85+75+80=240
Good work this round. I liked your garden, but wasn't a huge fan of the brick. I loved the interior, especially the living room and kitchen. the art room was also very nice, as was Darleens grave.

It was a very lovely house, however the only thing I did not like was the brick on the exterior of the house. I thought it was too much and it made the house look too dark and uninviting. Besides that, you did a good job.

The interior was great, actually. However, the brick you used was a little too blinding in the eye. Too much contrast. Darleen’s resting place was quite good there. Overall, you did okay.

DON'T FORGET: Round 3 ends on April 22, 11:59 PM.

20th Apr 2008, 12:50 AM
Where is everybody? Hope you're making progress with Round 3. This is a big lot. ;)

I've been watching this contest, its great! Had my game been functioning at the app round I would have been in it!

You have all inspired me to spend some much needed time on the pleasantview houses! I have also decided to follow the design briefs as i never know what to do with the houses!!
Good luck all and nice work!

20th Apr 2008, 1:40 AM
You guys are doing great work! I love all the house makeovers. Good job, everyone!

20th Apr 2008, 4:52 PM
Deadline is tomorrow (it's already midnight here), and still no entries. :(

We don't want this contest to close, so get your entries by tomorrow. Or else, this will be considered as the final round.

i'm working on my entry now so I should have it in tonight. I decided to add a basement and boy have I had trouble with it. I just could not level the ground and then once i'd figured it out and got it levelled it then wouldn't let me put walls or foundations back. But i've sorted it now, my layout is done and i'm just decorating it. phew! I wonder if it's as hard a job building real houses as it is pixel ones? :bricks:

20th Apr 2008, 5:04 PM
I haven't had a chance to start this round yet, what with it being the weekend and all. Hopefully tonight I'll have some time to work on it.

20th Apr 2008, 5:11 PM
Here is a sneak peek of the final round (top 4):

Your designer has earned quite a reputation for designing great houses. However, FOUR more families really need your help. Two have a hard time finding their dream house, one lost all of their possessions in a massive fire, and the last had their condo demolished.

Each designer/team will be assigned one family. You will build a house given the specifications. The family assigned to you will be a surprise, so be prepared.

20th Apr 2008, 9:36 PM
yikes! i'm almost done with the pleasent's house i swear.

Pleasantly Love

Exterior Front:

Exterior Back:
Changes were made to the upper floor, by removing the center bathroom, and enlarging the girls' bedrooms. All new windows and sidingmodernize the home, in addition to revamped landscaping. The family enjoys a wide variety of activities, Lilith has a secret passion for sports, so adding a soccer field to the side yard was a welcome change for her. (Recolors of OFB windows, and lounge chairs; Maxis match cypress tree tops as shrubs; Life stories tiki torch.)

Basement (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/Basement.jpg)

Living Room:
The living room was relocated to the other side of the house and enlarged. Bright yellow walls were used to add cheer to the space. A nice crisp white adds a nice accent to the yellow. (Life stories sofas, maxis match curtains, table plant, recolors of the rug, and desk.)

The kitchen went in for a much more modern, and updated look. The size of the kitchen was increased dramatically to make room for extra counter space and the island bar in the center of the room. (Most objects from the new K&BIDS; Life stories bar stools.)
Dining Room:
The dining room opens up directly off the kitchen. Double doors lead out to a small deck on the side of the house where Daniel can host barbeques. A cozy corner fireplace brings warmth to the room. Warm colors invite the family to stay and eat together. (Recolored painting and plant; Life stories chairs and rug; Maxis match curtains.)

Daniel and Mary-Sue's Bedroom:
Master Bathroom (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/Masterbath.jpg)
High quality modern furnishings give the master bedroom a luxurious feel. (Recolors of bedding and rug; Maxis match plant, curtains, and lamp.)

Mary-Sue's Pottery Room:
This room is a relaxing space that Mary-Sue can come into and let her creativity flow. She has already made a few plates which I promptly displayed on the wall for her. (Maxis match curtains.)

Lilith's Bedroom:
Another View (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/Lilith.jpg)
Lilith wanted to stay with her dark side, but also it reflects her feminine side as well. (Recolors of TSS goth bedroom.)

Lilith's Bathroom:
Lilith wanted her bathroom to be dark and luxurious, so I used modern fixtures and elegant accesories. The rich colors really set the right mood here. (Recolor of curtain.)

Angela's Bedroom:
Another View (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/Angela.jpg)
Angela wanted a more grown up room, so she now has a double bed and bright colors that show her personality off. (Recolors of rug, bedding, and the TSS chair.)
Angela's Bathroom (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/Angelabath.jpg)

Basement Home Gym:
For the home gym, I put in plenty of fitness equipment, and mirrored walls so the family can watch themselves work out.(Great motivater!) It is a simple room, so I kept it clean.

The Dance Studio (http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/CiaoAlora/Designer/MLdance.jpg)

Family Game Room:
This is another room in the basement where the family can spend time together. There is a mini bar and a gaming table.

Round Three: Pleasantly Love

Redecorating this house was great fun for me, not just because I got to run loose in the house of one of the most well known families in Pleasantview but because I got to find out the secrets of the family. And boy do this family have a lot of secrets!

Mary-Sue was very clear on the fact that she wanted rid of the mock Tudor exterior (much to the annoyance of Daniel) but she still wanted to maintain the appearance of a warm and welcoming family home (to keep up the pretence for the neighbours) so I added a sand coloured stucco and planted some ivy (which has grown surprisingly quickly).

Front Exterior:

Mary-Sue wanted a room dedicated to family time, A place where they could all be together to have fun and build on their relationships (Mary-Sue is clearly deluded but what the clients says, goes) A basement was added to accommodate the family room and a half bathroom without using up valuable floor space on the other floors. (No potters wheel as I don't have FreeTime - I've just ordered it though YIPPEE!!!!)

Basement Aerial Shot:

Daniel & Mary-Sue's bedroom was moved upstairs to enable me to create a large, open plan ground floor which maximizes the use of space.

Ground Floor Aerial Shot:

The whole first floor layout was rearranged to enable three good sized bedrooms each with an en-suite bathroom to cut out early morning arguments about who is taking ages to shower

TV Area:

A full length mirror was installed at one end of the room.

Angela's room is still girly but has a more mature feel.

We didn't change much of the exterior as we wanted to concentrate our efforts in the interior.
(Some exterior windows are Independent Expression match from MTS2)

Overhead: First Floor

Overhead: Basement

From here you can see the hot-tub and basketball area.

Living Room

Living room, kitchen and dining room are all open plan to give a modern airy feel.
(Life Stories sofas, vases, curtains, rug Maxis recolours)

Dining Room

We used red in the dining area as it is supposed to aid digestion. I don't know if this is correct, but it looks nice! There are French doors onto the rear terrace.
(Maxis Match flower tub with Maxis Match geraniums inside)

We have given a modern, light kitchen with all the latest appliances.
(Counters, espresso machine Maxis recolours, Wall Cabinets Maxis Match MTS2)

Master Suite

We used modern furniture and some funky wallpaper to give this room a younger but still warm feel. We made the bathroom a quiet, romantic retreat from the children.

Lilith's Room

We let the girls choose their own colours for their bedrooms, as you can see Lilith chose purple and black! It wouldn't have been our first choice but we did our best with it, and I think it turned out okay.
(Curtains Maxis Match recolour)

Another view (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/pl10.jpg)

Angela's Room

Angela chose pink, unsurprisingly, we tried not to make it too girly and make it more suitable for a teenager.
(Bed Sirona Sims, chair, curtains Maxis recolours)

Another view (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/romyhorse/sim%20pics/pl12.jpg)

The gym area is clean and simple. There is a mirrored wall so they can watch themselves sweat and a TV so they don't get bored. we also put in a shower room to the right.

At the other end it's more creative. There is a potters' wheel as requested and an easel.
(chair Piggi Sims recolour)

And there is also a music corner.
(posters recolours)

1. Judy Cameron – 98+91+95=284

Comment - I loved the house! The only room I wasn't really impressed with is Lillith's room. I liked how you made it dark, but the furniture didn't seem like a teenager's bedroom, but more of an adult's room. Besides that, excellent job!

I must say I am very impressed by this entry. The exterior is positively gorgeous and I love the way you made it look like a model home. I quite like your kitchen and dining room, they look very nice and livable. I also love the bedrooms, especially the adult room. All in all, you did a very good job

Awesome work you got there. Not too keen on Lilith’s room, though. I like the color scheme, but it was more of a young adult’s room than a teenager’s. Love the rest of the house, though.

2. Franny Proctor – 90+89+91=270

Comment - The house looks awesome! Every room was very nicely decorated, but I didn't really like Lillith's bedroom. The furniture didn't seem to fit a teenage girl's bedroom, even if it was suppose to be a dark design. Besides that, awesome work!

Very nice job! I like the exterior, especially the ivy on the walls. I like the downstairs decorating, but I'm not a huge fan of the parquet floor. I loved the second floor, though! I especially like the teens bedrooms -- they match their personality, yet are classy. Good job.

I’m impressed. A big improvement over your last round. Your commentary was hilarious . A great house overall, except that Lilith’s room was a little too bare for me. Some clutter on the right places will do the job.

3. David and Maddy Anderson – 87+90+92=269

Comment - This house is really cute! You did a great job decorating it. The only room I wasn't too keen on was the dining room. You used too much red and I felt there should've been more colors or at least one other color involved. All in all, you did a great job!

Great job this round. I especially like the interior decorating -- particularly in the living room and kitchen. It feels very light and modern, while still being homey. I also really like what you did with the basement, it looks like a great place to pursue your passion. Once again, very nice job

Possibly your best round. I love the airy feel you have in the house. I especially loved the red dining room. Lovely!

25th Apr 2008, 3:36 AM
