Broken hearts lie all around me,
And I don't see an easy way to get out of this..."

Why I'm pushing pushing
When you know damn well
What you do
What you do to a woman
I get so inspired..."

Round I
"After School is Over"

SimCity High School is hosting an annual, city-wide talent show.
The band bus (the same one that snatched you from the street) dumps you and your band mates off in the parking lot, giving you two options:
1) I Ran, like a Flock of Seagulls
2) Take a chance, swallow your pride and Rock You Like a Hurricane as Scorpins once did.

Rules for Round I:
-The backround must be like a stage at a school.
-No costumes are needed, this is just day two.
2 pictures of the full band playing at the talent show.
1 picture of the lead singer playing at the show.
1 picture of another band member.

'Storyline' must be at least 8 sentences about the event.

9th Mar 2009, 3:22 AM
Sorry! Can I be an EJ?

9th Mar 2009, 3:25 AM
daisii, Yes you can :)

Ashilieee, I put you down for Judge #2 (thinking Cheese is still wanting to be Judge)

9th Mar 2009, 3:26 AM
Oops, sorry Beeps. I totally forgot about that and yah PuX, I would love to be judge.

9th Mar 2009, 3:59 AM
Oooh, Pux! I'm torn! This is my kinda style... but will I have enough time? I will get back to you, just have to go brainstorm. Also, I don't have photoshop (and I don't plan on spending $600 or more on it to soon) do you know of a similar free program? Or does anyone else? I want to do this, but I don't know if I can edit the photos or not. I will go make the band members now!

9th Mar 2009, 4:10 AM
x-tashi-x, You could use GIMP. That's what I use.

9th Mar 2009, 4:37 AM
craziidaisii: Ah, thank you!
OK, and another question. When you say "bass" can we just use a maxis electric guitar with a recolour? Because the maxis "bass" is strange to me, it's not what I am familiar with. I mean the one that's basically an electric guitar but low, with four strings and a long neck.

PuX- 80's
9th Mar 2009, 4:47 AM
x-tashi-x, You are giving up your judging spot? :P
To answer your questions, GIMP or Paint.net will work great.
Bass is SimLand is only another guitar, but different color.

9th Mar 2009, 6:21 AM
Pux: Doesn't matter, I just used the maxis one :)

Now, I explained the reason I haven't got my flyer/songlist right now in a PM. I hope you don't mind! Oh, and the band name. I tried to be creative, but I get the feeling there is a band in RL called it. :(

Lead Singer: Cassie Beckett
Band Name: Famous Last Words
3 Band members names: Ashton Saporta: Drums. Kellie Lautner: Bass. Ryder McCoy: Guitar.
Genre: Alternative/Punk Rock.

I want to join this, however I'm having trouble with what a venue flyer is, or what you put on it. Also, do you need to make that along with a list of songs?

I'm sorry if it's a stupid question :)

PuX- 80's
9th Mar 2009, 11:22 PM
A venue flyer is....a flyer that says when, where, during what time, what event is taking place all on one piece of paper.
The songlist will be on the flyer.

Google Image Search (http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&aq=t&rlz=1T4GGLJ_en___US316&q=Band+Flyer)

thanks... Ok, well If I am able to make this thing them I'll post an entry.

10th Mar 2009, 12:53 AM
This is right up my alley, too.
But, Pux, a song list is usually taped to the stage floor wherever the band members start out standing -- not on the flyer. That would only mention the biggest hit of late if any song.

Look at the band SOS (in the Google link I provided) flyer.

10th Mar 2009, 3:30 AM
One question before I go take another cold pill and load my game, since I might as well do it all while I'm in there, does Round 1 only require the one pic of them playing at a school? No other pics or storyline to go with it?

'nother ? in your ap and rules it says " (young) adult. Do you mean we use YA adults or an adult fresh out of CAS will do, either or? I have a feeling my YA's will promptly turn into regular adults the minute I plop them into the neighborhood, as they always do.

10th Mar 2009, 11:48 PM

Sorry, School work as been...annoying.

Deatherella, RI needs 4-6 pictures.
I will edit RI's post to include:
2 pictures of the full band playing at the talent show.
1 picture of the lead singer playing at the show.
1 picture of another band member.

'Storyline' must be at least 8 sentences about the event.
(i.e. "Our performance at SimCity High School was one of my best musical experiences ever. I liked when we asked, during a song, for the crowd to respond, and they did..."etc.)

Also to anwser the other question, You can use Young Adults and/or Adults.

12th Mar 2009, 8:24 PM
Thanks for letting me know. Now I can finish up my band, they're just saved sims in bodyshop at the moment and get them on board.

13th Mar 2009, 5:45 AM
Are you on applications or round one ? Can you still enter ? Thanks

13th Mar 2009, 6:27 AM
I believe they are both running at the same time with different closing dates. Look above for the ending date for the first round, ap's close on the 17th.

13th Mar 2009, 11:07 AM
I have mine part done so I'll edit as I go.

Cam Moore - Vocalist, Back-up Guitar
Benji Moore - Percussion
Wade Marx - Bassist
Rafe "Hey Blondie" Boone - Lead Guitar

Genre: Death Metal

"Hello, (shakes your hand), I'm Cam Moore. I'm the front man for Deathbringer. I can thrash with the best of them, as well. Our band makes the kind of music that makes your daddy curse and your momma have nightmares. Guess that means you're gonna love us to death.

Most bands start out in a garage. Not us. We have a carriage house. Hmmmm, would that make us the "house band"?

Deathbringer. Yeah.

I'll see you there with green beer in hand.

(Stupid photoshop shrunk my flyer to half size when I saved it as a png before going back to picture it to add the text and borders, I cannot get it back to the original size without it looking crusty, but if you want to see a slightly blurred up bigger one where you can read the songs in the borders better, try this pic: DeathbringeR flyer (http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii217/deb666/Sims%202%20Dream%20of%2010%20Nights%20Contest/biggrDeathbringer-Ap4.jpg)

Round 1

4 Singin' Gurlz

Meghan Stuart - Lead Singer
Kaitee Langsten - Guitar
Kylie Granger - Drums
Stephanie Clifton - Bass Guitar

Full Band

Meghan - We had a heck of a great time at the talent audition at the high school. Kinda aqward for four college kids to show up at a highschool audition, but, with all the crazed band junkies there, I don't think that anyone noticed; though, we weren't the only "older" crowd there. Speaking for my entire band, I think that we were all quite nervous, however the nausa ended rather quickly, we just had to get into our "groove". I think that we did rather good, and one of the judges even couldn't keep his eyes off of me. ;) All in all, I do think that we might get a real shot at something big . . . I smell success!

Kaitee - As Meghan already stated, we did a really good job. I was super freaked at first, but, once I got started, I just couldn't stop! I was seriously into it, and, almost started to go off into my own land, but, then I remembered . . . pop. I'm in a "pop" band. Although I left my head banging days behind me, I still can't help but to occassionally pump up the volume; and of course, this talent show, unfortunately, was no acception. On the plus side, I don't think it hurt us any :)

Did I get it wrong in the rules when I thought it read that you must be the lead singer and play and an instrument?
I got my "me" a guitar and a mic. He can alternate.

PuX- 80's
15th Mar 2009, 7:55 PM
In a band a microphone is an instrument.

15th Mar 2009, 8:05 PM
Well, around here, mic's are so common we don't think of them as instruments. Just what you stick in front of your face to howl. I guess that means I can get rid of one guitar, eh?

PuX- 80's
15th Mar 2009, 9:49 PM
You don't have to, it adds appeal ;)

15th Mar 2009, 9:51 PM
Ok, I won't. None of our bands have a lead singer that doesn't play guitar as well, so that's what I'm accustomed to.
Now, I'm offline to finish up my flyer.

16th Mar 2009, 4:30 AM

BIGGER (http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j96/emodawg/practive.jpg)

We aren't really a garage band. All the houses where we live are too close together for us to practice without some whiny neighbour complaining about the noise. So we practice in this old abandoned warehouse at the edge of town. The killer acoustics make up for the cold, the strange smells and the occasional deranged hobos.

Bigger (http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j96/emodawg/futile.jpg)

Us making a swift exit when one of said deranged hobos turned up...

(Gahh my pics are awful quality! Also are flyers required? because it isn't specified for but a few people have done them)

22nd Mar 2009, 6:35 PM
thanks for joining you guys. now we only need two more.

pux, maybe you could get permission to run the contest with only 8 contestants and we could do it for the fun of it and whatever prizes there are for the winner.

When it says I need to have 5 posts does it mean in the whole of Sims 2 Community or does it mean the contests category?

Yes, I am alive still.

Now we need two more contestants and a judge.

22nd Mar 2009, 11:56 PM
The school had EPIC lighting, man. Like, I couldn’t have dreamed of anything better. We DID bring our own lightcaps, but the school provided for the rest. I thought it gave our performance a flavor it wouldn’t have had otherwise. If it wasn’t for the obnoxious high-pitched teenage screaming, I would have almost felt like I was doing a real gig. Almost.

The platform wasn’t very big, but we made do. Sampson and Skelter seriously wouldn’t shut up about being so close to each other. I ignored them and then halfway through the show their cords got tangled up. Mass chaos erupted. There are no images of this because everyone was frigging embarrassed beyond belief. We were such losers for about five seconds. Sampson had to fix the wiring on his amp.

Once more, Ulrich was famazing and never messed up, not once. Props to Ulrich, because he was pretty nervous. Being dead apparently is a big enough buzzkill though that he didn’t wet himself. He said he would. We made bets. I lost twenty bucks.

This one chick kept trying to climb up on the stage. It was hard to see her with the lighting until she was already halfway up. Somebody had spiked the punch, that’s my bet. The SRO finally was like, “ENOUGH!” and marched her out. Her friends looked pretty put out. You can see her in about 80% of our pics because she was THAT psychotic and/or drunk.

Teenagers. I wash my hands of them. Wash, I say!

After getting his amped all twisted up like that, Sampson was pretty chill for the rest of the gig. I think he was upset. Probably he and Skelter... "fought" later. I'm not jealous, it's just kind of awkward. I thought Sampson was already dating? Maybe all that exposure to cleaning agents in my childhood has boggled my memory.

The colors! So beautiful! I love light caps! I love them!

And I say that all with the manliest enthusiasm. Really.

Oh, by the way: We lost to a juggling freshman. The only reason this was impressive was because she didn't have any use of her arms. Whatever. Showoff...

We did get special recongition for being the best of three - count 'em, THREE - bands. I guess that's worth something, right? That something being twenty dollars, with which we bought pizza. We are hardcore rockers, my man.

23rd Mar 2009, 9:20 AM
CatNip LIVE at Sim City High School Talent Show!!

So here we are up on stage, singing "The Thirteenth Day", it went well I think. You have to love the high school decor... (I hope they do better for decorations at Prom time) Oh well we had a ton of fun.

The best part about this was just getting to preform in front of people. We are always so amazed when the audience hops up and begins to dance. It just lets us know we doing something people enjoy and giving them a good time.

Here I am singing away, and Twist is off in the back stealing the show (and my spotlight). I let him get away with it cause he is the only guy in CatNip.

Here is Meeka, our guitarist, during her solo in "Too Much Nip" The light was working wonders with her hair.

So there you have it CatNip went, played, and conquered that talent show!

24th Mar 2009, 7:33 PM
Hey, Pux!
Is this contest still a "go"? Haven't seen you in here for a few. And . . . wasn't Round 2 supposed to go up yesterday?

24th Mar 2009, 10:29 PM
I was so nervous sitting there waiting to go on stage. Then I hear the announcer say up next is 4 Days Till Dawn. I could feel my heart in my throat. We were about to go on and if all turns out right my band could make it to the big time. We got out there and I was so nervous that I forgot part of the second verse! But Cara smiled and started to play a little guitar solo to cover my mistake.

After she was done will her solo everything started to get better. I became more confident and even started to sing better.

Band Playing
I was really getting into it, I even started to move my hands with the music.

At the very end of the song was my incredibly long high note that I hit right on tune.

Band Playing 2
Over all this experience was great no matter what happens I will be greatful that I got the chance to sing at SimCity High School and be in the SimCity Annual Talent Show!

happyasabunny... Nice photos! That Hello Kitty Fender is my favorite. I have always wanted one in real life but don't have one so my Sims get one :) I give them everything I want and don't have.

Hey, Pux!
Is this contest still a "go"? Haven't seen you in here for a few. And . . . wasn't Round 2 supposed to go up yesterday?
I can't edit the first post which is the brains of every/most contests.
We can possibly continue, but that would need heavy traffic here by every single contestant.

RII can't go up unless those that didn't submit RI want to be out already, which I find unfair.

25th Mar 2009, 2:42 AM
this is great! id have to say my favorite so far would be... i cant be a chooser. everyone looks really good! oh, and can i be a judge, PuX- 80's?

Yes you can :D
I think I will have beeps update the title once more, but other than that all updates will be in the third post.

Round 1

Lead Vocals: Nikki Legend
Guitar: Vic Legend
Drums: Trey Burton
Keyboard/Synth/Back-up Vocals: Luke Smallwood

Nikki: So we decided to enter SimCity High's talent show this year. It's open to anyone in SimCity under the age of 21, so we jumped at the opportunity to expose our music to people who wouldn't normally go to one of our shows.

Vic: We were the only bands who got an encore. It was so down. For our first song we played a cover of Scorpion's "Rock You Like A Hurricane". It was really bad-ass. Luke programmed the synth to play the bassline, but like electronica status, since we don't have a bassist. God, that guy is smart!

From this picture, you can't really tell that I'm playing guitar, but Nik thought it would be a great pic because it really shows how much I love playing. It's like a spiritual experience for me.

Nikki: For the encore we played an original song [lyrics by Trey & me, music by Vic & Luke] called Destiny. Yeah, I know there are alot of songs out there with that name, but writing it with Trey... The name just... Felt right.

25th Mar 2009, 4:15 AM
Just a quick question; How long will you be accepting apps/round ones?

25th Mar 2009, 4:58 AM
HP found the issue on the first post so now I'm moving my updated info (post 3) to the first.
Then every thing should run like normal.

allie, 25th.

25th Mar 2009, 5:09 AM
OMGnoWAY... Your lead singer's wardrobe is great, I like your band's name too :)

25th Mar 2009, 5:12 AM
Aww thanks beatnikbunny

Your whole cat motif is awesome. It's so original! :]

25th Mar 2009, 3:37 PM
Thanks beatnikbunny...how ironic that we both have bunny in our names!! I love the skins/fur of your sims I thought it was different but could really make you stand out in this competition. ^_^ GOOD LUCK!! ^_^

26th Mar 2009, 12:13 PM
when are we doing the judgy-judgy thing? (AKA when is round one over, since I'm assuming no eliminations in app round.)

Oh, and how is the scoring system going to go? i read the rules and the scoring and everything, but im sooo confused..... :hat:

26th Mar 2009, 7:33 PM
Pux, I think you're getting heavy traffic from all of us. We're all wondering what's up with the contest, though.

26th Mar 2009, 9:46 PM
when are we doing the judgy-judgy thing? (AKA when is round one over, since I'm assuming no eliminations in app round.)

Oh, and how is the scoring system going to go? i read the rules and the scoring and everything, but im sooo confused..... :hat:

Jewaukeela- Round 1 was supposed to be over yesterday. I don't know if Pux- has been on yet to check in, but he'll probably PM us asking for scores. Here is the way the scores are broken down:
Followed Rules: 10/10
-Read Rules section of first post-
Creativity: 5/5
-You took time, and worked hard on your pictures taken.
Story: 5/5
-4+ sentences on your day at the given venue
For judging, you'll be taking his criterea and rating the contestants. For example, if you thought a contestants pictures could have been better, you might give them a 3/5 in creativity.

Hope I helped :)

Deatherella, I'm kind of wondering the same thing. He's yet to check in, it's starting to worry me a little :/

PuX- never dies :D
Our internet connection here poofed. So we had to wait for the company to fix it.

Round 1 has ended now.
I'm sorry for those that submitted late (26th and on) and those that didn't at all. This contest does has eliminations.

Round II
"Take Me Back To My Boat on The River"

Life on the road is complicated. Always being split in half with home-life and your career. This round will show how you are struggling with home life and a small show held at Cahnon's Bar.

-2 band shots at Cahnon's Bar.
-2 pictures showing how you are struggling with home-life.
-Two creative sentences per picture.

27th Mar 2009, 11:54 PM
Um, what specifically do you mean by struggling with home life? Do you mean like how we live on ramen noodles and use candles cuz we can't afford to pay the elec bill? The hangers-on drank all my booze and I'm pissed about it?

I just want to do it right.

And what is Cahnon's Bar? A crappy dirt bar, crusty club, or someplace you'd take your mom to?

PuX- 80's
28th Mar 2009, 12:30 AM
-How ever you want. The more interesting, the more points.
-Cahnon's Bar is a rich family ran bar, but their bar resembles a hole in the wall bar.

28th Mar 2009, 1:45 AM
so should we start doing round 2 of should be wait until the judges had told who has been eliminated

PuX- 80's
28th Mar 2009, 2:00 AM
You can start RII in hopes that you aren't dumped, but if you are dumped then..you wasted your time, but at least you're covered.

28th Mar 2009, 2:07 AM
when will we find out the results for round one?

28th Mar 2009, 5:02 AM
I just sent in my scores for round 1, so hopefully soon :)

28th Mar 2009, 6:24 AM
'nother ?
Since Round 2 was originally slated to run from the 25th to the 30th, but never got posted until the 27th, is there a new timeline or do we really only have over the weekend to finish it up?
Just asking cuz after I got offline earlier today, our guests started showing up and we've had ourselves a fun little house party all evening so I haven't even fired up my Sims game yet -- and it's after midnight where I live so . . . .

28th Mar 2009, 3:33 PM
i just sent all my scores in, so we should be seeing the results soon.

28th Mar 2009, 5:59 PM
I sent my scores in last night, so hopefully they'll be posted today.

29th Mar 2009, 3:52 AM
Deatherella, I couldn't help the internet failure I had, so I want planing on adjusting the timeline. Some contests only give 2 days per round.

happyasabunny, When all the judges send in their score cards.

I have all judges scores, but one needs to be fixed.

1st-Sta_r_obin- 57.5
2nd-clw8- 53.5
2nd-OMGnoWAY- 53.5
2nd-happyasabunny- 53.5
4th-Deatherella- 48.5

-I think you could've edited the pictures a little more refined to make them a more appealing. Great job on making it nice and detailed (refering to your 'Story')

-The zoom could be better, and so could the background, but otherwise this is fine. Clear story background; interesting characters, interesting plot. Good length, too!

-I think you could have polished up your pictures a little more. The pictures didn't show the band off all that well, so maybe take them at a different angle. I like how you took the time to write and it was really quite interesting.

-While the background and props were good, the poses weren't as. Next time, I'd try really using that zoom button - get close up, get personal. The length was pretty good; you get an A for that! The only story part I could complain about would be the fact that the pictures don't really tell the story. I mean, just looking at the photos don't explain most of the text. But all in all, good job.

-The pictures were taken pretty well and looked quite elegant. Though the story was interesting as is, I think you could've written a little more.

-I didnt take off much because you did hit the right amount of sentences, but next time put a little more meat on the bones, okay? You could have better zoom techniques, but they are good enough for now. The sets are great. Dont find the background very interesting, but at least you have one. The rest of your story is really good. Keep up the great work!

-It was quite elegant and great job on the pictures. It wasn't all that detailed and so maybe next round you could write some more.

-Great, great zooms and pretty good sets. Just half a point off! The background story could use a little work, but the wording is great! Keep up the good work.

-The set of the show looked quite nice! It wasn't all that detailed, so maybe next time you can write a little more.

-The photos are well spaced vertically, and there's a good mix of zoom in your photos. I especially like the creativity you had in making your characters cats! The only bad thing about your Round I entries was the length. Try to get a few more sentences in on each photo, and maybe next time you'll get a perfect score!

-I think you could've made them look a little more individual. I It was not all that detailed, so I think for next time you should write some more.

-So close! I only counted seven sentences, and what there were were very short. Come on, I know you can do better than this! I took off very little for this in light of your score for "Rules", but next time try to put some variety in; regards to zoom. Mix n' match. Your fluidity is good, and so is your sentence structure. But one problem - I understand that this is only a contest, but you also need to put some story, some background into your characters. Aside from a little bit in the App, you haven't really done this.
I'm sorry, Deatherella.
Your band arrived at Cahnon's Bar, but was -boo'ed- off stage.

29th Mar 2009, 6:05 AM
Yes I was thinking the same thing about my entry, I just got in a hurry I think but I have already been working on my 2nd entry so I should have some kind of improvement :)

Thank you for the complement about the cat idea, I normally get strange looks for my cat "obsession".

29th Mar 2009, 6:22 AM
Oh wow...Looks like I need to do my entry for this contest now.... Just finished up a 3 hour entry for another contest; if it wasn't 1 in the morning right now, I'd probably get back onto the game and do the entry now.... However, I'm tired, so, will do it when I get up, :)

Thanks for the comments. You judges commented on things I actually noticed myself. I found it really hard to include my intire band in my pictures, thus, they weren't all that creative. I guess I'll have to really work on that ;)
I know that there isn't many contestants, so I feel really stupid for saying that this is the first contest that I've been second in. :\

29th Mar 2009, 2:35 PM
Thanks for the ideas I'm going to work on that. That has always been the hardest part for me, but hopefully I can fix it.

29th Mar 2009, 4:15 PM
Round 2
"Take Me Back To My Boat On The River"

The band started off a little slow and rocky, and our moods where less then pumped. Because of this, it took the crowd a bit to warm up to our music, but, once they finally did, it started to get really fun!

We played our hearts out all evening, playing every song of ours, and any requests from the folks at the bar. By the time the bar was empty, boy were we totally exhausted, but proud of ourselves for finishing the show.

Upon my checkup at the doctor today, I was told that I not pregnant, and never was. The news hit me like a train, killing my mood, and causing my band to go three whole practices without a singer.

Tensions among everyone are rising, and causing stupid, useless arguements. I guess the stress over up coming gigs is really putting a strain on everyone, causing sleepless nights (because of practice), and exhausted bodies.

29th Mar 2009, 4:50 PM
wow clw8, great entry! nice use of the zoom button, too. you really took the comments to heart and used them. good job, really.

29th Mar 2009, 5:33 PM
Sometimes, I just sit in a corner; to get away from all the tension that you can feel between everyone in the band. There are times when I wish it could just all stop.

I don't want to choose, but I almost feel like we have no other choice. We need money and until we get bigger and get more gigs, we won't have that.

On stage is my only sanctuary, it's the only place where I feel sane. I feel like I can spread my wings and fly, it helps me get away from everything that is going on at home.

I feel safe when I'm on stage, I don't think that I want to give this all up. I would feel lonely without it. So I have decided I am going to stick it out and try to make it through.

29th Mar 2009, 6:02 PM
good job, happyasabunny. im so glad everyone has taken the comments to heart. I'm really enjoying this.

29th Mar 2009, 7:12 PM
Thanks jewaukeela.
The comments really helped a lot :)
Glad you like

29th Mar 2009, 7:19 PM
I'm still laughing my butt off -- I've never been boo-ed off a stage in my life.

Good luck to everyone still trotting along.

29th Mar 2009, 11:17 PM
Thanks jewaukeela I worked really hard on round 2 I really hope it pays off.

30th Mar 2009, 12:55 AM
The biggest drawback to being in CatNip is that it doesn't leave much time for a job. Each of us do have odd little jobs tho such as car washing, lawn care, babysitting, Meeka even volunteers to play guitar at the children hospital on Wednesdays. Due to lack of money Twist and I share a small studio apartment in downtown Lostin. Music being top priority we have little time to clean up the tiny room, making it look very well lived in (even when we are not there much)

Flower lives in her parents basement, while Meeka lives with her grandmother, that being said they prefer to be out on the road and not at home. Don't be fooled, there is one heart brake we four share... having to leave Twist's cat Catnip! This cute little guy is the mascot of our band, however most venues have a no pets policy so he must stay home.

We showed up last night at Cahnon's Bar for our gig, only to find the place was near empty. So much for the idea of getting our music out there to the masses... unless you count 5 people as a "mass". We pushed away our disappointment, set up and let 'em have it!

We popped off 3 old songs, one cover, and a new song that I had been writing for awhile. A few more people wondered inside the bar during our performance (be it for alcohol, pool, or our singing I don't know). All in all it was a good days work, we only got half the money we were supposed to because Flower and Meeka drank away the other half when we finished. I'm just happy they waited till after the show.

30th Mar 2009, 1:37 AM
Nikki: Living in a house with three guys isn't the easiest thing to do. I mean I love them all so much, but at times it's really hard to deal with them. This week has been so dramatic; I felt like I was in high school again!

On Tuesday after rehersal, Vic and Luke went out for a beer, seeing as it was Luke's 21st birthday [okay, okay, so we fudged Vic's age for the talent show by a year... or two...] so I was home alone with Trey.

At first we were just watching ESPN and chatting, but then Trey asked me why I wanted to name our song Destiny so badly, so I told him the truth: I love him, and I've loved him since I was sixteen. Trey looked deep into my eyes, and said "Nikki, I feel the exact same way about you." He pulled me close and kissed me. It was like time stopped, and we were the only two people on the entire planet.

Little did we know that Luke had come home to grab a clean pair of pants [some drunk hussy spilled an appletini on him] and saw us kissing! He snuck upstairs and back down with a pair of pants and neither of us noticed! Mind you, we were a little *ahem* busy. [Nikki blushes crimson]

Luke isn't exactly the best secret-keeper in the world. He told his friend Eric, who told his friend Marie, who told Vic hoping that she'd get a date with him for being so honest. Vic wasn't happy, to say the least.

Vic: I can't believe that jerk was trying to hook up with my sister! I've warned every guy who's ever been interested in her the consequences of breaking her heart. I feel betrayed that Trey, one of my best friends, is interested in her. I thought he still saw her as the skinny little girl with braces who always tried to tag along! If he hurts her, he's a dead man walking. I told him that, too.

Nikki: Anyways, on Friday we had a big gig. It was our first gig that didn't involve teenagers. It's cool to be moving up in the world. It was at the new bar in town called Cahnon's. I thought the decor was a little drab, but not everyone has my awesome taste.

We played from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and MAN was it tiring! Who knew singing some songs and dancing around could be such hard work? No, that was sarcasm, hon. So yeah, we opened with an electronica cover of Bon Jovi's "Livin On A Prayer". The bar patrons really liked it... I think... They might've been super smashed.

By the end of the night we were basically doing requests. The bar patrons had some... interesting... song requests. Among them were "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" by Culture Club, "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc., and "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo. Luckily, the synth has alot of 80s songs pre-programmed.

It would've been a really awesome gig if Trey and Vic hadn't been glaring at eachother most of the night.

Nice Round II, beatnikbunny! :)

EDIT: I loved your round 2, OMG.

30th Mar 2009, 10:10 PM
beatnikbunny, LOVED your round. legnth could have been a bitty longer, but honestly no worries - i liked it.

OMG - all i can say is wow! you really did great on your story. loved the developments; they really put the meat into your story. i wonder what will happen now. will this effect the band's performance? fighting among yourselves?

30th Mar 2009, 11:05 PM
Thanks for the complements :)

OMG... I like the love affair aspect in your bands story!

At least two sentences the more, the better story you can produce. :D

wow thanks guys :] that made my day

beatnikbunny - your story is totally true to the starving artist phase that most bands go through. and Twist's kitty is so darn cute!

clw8 - your pictures are absolutely exquisite!

happyasabunny - your sims are sooo gorgeous!

PuX this is a pretty bad ass contest! I'm so loving it!

Round II
(Story coming soon!)

I probably forgot to mention, since it never really came up – I do have a boyfriend. His name is Muslin. He’s a pretty jaded guy, kind of skittish, but I love him anyway. Sometimes he does little keyboard bits for our songs if we need it, or helps me sing, but he’s not as good at it as Skelter. His voice can go higher. Anyway, I’m rambling.

He’s the one in the picture that you haven’t seen before. With the rainbow hair. You see him? You see him? Isn’t he just gorgeous? He is, isn’t he?

Oh, yeah, probably it’s important to point out, if you didn’t notice, The Orbits are one of the two-dozen or so openly gay bands in the city. I know, I know. Let’s just change subjects right about now. Really, it’s not about the identity of being THE GAY… it’s about not being fake, you know? You probably don’t know. That’s fine.

So anyway, Muslin and I… we’ve been together for a while. Probably, like… six months, or so. Which is a while when you’re as temperamental starving-artist type-y as I am. Most boys expect you to wise up in a timely manner, but this is something I’m just passionate about. Muslin gets it because he’s an artist, too.

So he was with us today, helping us figure out some song lyrics over Coke and perfectly grease-tastic fast food. Since Skelter is indeed a vampire –yeah, we’re awesome like that, zombie and vampire included – we have to work mostly at night. Muslin wasn’t feeling very well, so he went to bed. Skelter wasn’t feeling very well, so he also went to bed.

You know where this is going.

I’ve never been so confused and angry in my life. Like, usually I have a pretty good handle on myself. I’m a chill bean. But this just kind of blew me out of the water. I’m not really sad, I think I need a while to reach that point – I’m not familiar with my emotions to begin with. Writing words about this whole thing makes it just more confusing and makes me want to break something violently enough that it breaks something else.

I know that Skelter’s the kind of guy that fools around with other people’s men. It’s how he is. He got bored with Sampson a couple of days ago and Sampson’s been in a little bit of a rut ever since. I tried not to notice… but now it’s making sense. Anyway, what gets ME is why Muslin would do it. I don't know what I thought, but I thought we had more going on than THIS.

I’ll stop trying to be all analytical about the whole thing, because it’s just really… it doesn’t matter. Muslin didn’t even apologize. I think he was shocked. He just ran for it. Ulrich would have cried, I think, judging from the look on his face, but his tear ducts dried up sometime around the time he died. Skelter vanished, too, before I could rend him a new one… which was pretty wise of him, actually.

He didn’t show up again until tonight.

We have a cute little gig going on at Cahnon’s. Just another frilly gay bar in the dead center of the metro, but I like the place. It’s friendly and actually pretty safe, as far as these places go. A nice old lady runs it and she makes sure nobody gets taken advantage of and that. The place is warm and if you want hot chocolate – whoa, you can get hot chocolate! Try asking for THAT in another greasy bar in the middle of noplace. You’ll get laughed at.

No, really, you will.

I tried.

What’s depressing about the gay community is that your pool of choices steadily decreases if you frequent a place for too long. You get to know people too well to want to play around and you don’t like them enough to make it serious. I recognize most people’s faces in the crowd. They look excited to see me, which is weird. I stand out because I’m furry. I can’t help it! I tried shaving once in third grade… but I digress.

Even though I was familiar with the place and the audience, I was a nervous bug. I didn’t smile much. Skelter played angrily and messed up a lot which ticked me off. Sampson didn’t talk. Ulrich just kind of mumbled a lot. Not that we had much of an opportunity to talk. Half of our band members… er, were “stolen” away for the evening. Ulrich and I chilled around and watched TV. I waited for Muslin to call me but he never did. I didn’t see him at the gig, though I did see his little brother. I tried to corner him but he high-tailed it.

All in all, it was pretty nice. A lot of the guys that were there are involved in the media and things like it. There will probably be mention of it in the local-like papers. Exposure is always good, right?

I should be excited. I should be like, joyful and things. But I’m not. I just feel kind of hollow. Which is awkward. I need more beer.

But really, I think I want hot chocolate.

RII is now Over!

Round III- "My Wayward Son" /"My Higher Power"
What do you do now?
You have 3 days on the road left.
Will you Carry On or will you and your band seek Higher Power?

In RIII you can either:
A) Carry On- The band is over, for good. How is your life now?
B) Higher Power- You and your band want to find sucess on the main-stream.

Both A and B will require you to have a final show.
Franklin Park, a well groomed park in the rich lots of SimCity. Only the greats are allowed to rock out here.

2 pictures of your (A) life after the band or (B) life with the band with sucess.
2 pictures of your show at Franklin park.
Two sentences (or more) per picture.

RII Scores
clw8- 47.5
-Again, the pictures were not the best. Try putting a little more into the backgrounds of your shots, and really work the zoom buttons. Although you just hit the storyline sentence count, you really could have used some more meat. Develop the story better for next time. Cause some problems!

-You only followed the very minimum text requirements for the round. I liked the pictures, however, the text didn't quite intrigue me very much. I would suggest more writing, but not too much. Other than that, great job!

Sta_r_obin- 58
-What can I say? The story was long and developed, and has an interesting plot line. Full of humor and sadness too. I can't wait to see what happens next! I wonder is the band will break up...

-This was a great round for you! The story flowed very well, and the whole cheating scandal sparked my interest. Well done.

beatnik- 53.5
-The story could have been a little more developed, but overall good job! nice work, kitties!

-I didn't feel that this entry really described the poor situation at home, and didn't really spark my interest that much. Very nice entry, though.

happasabunny- 49.5
-The length really should be a bit longer. (come on! I know you can do it!) Otherwise, though, good job. Now that the new round is out, maybe you might go back on your decision not to break up the band.

-Great round. I do feel that your choice for troubles at home could have been more creative, however.

OMGnoWAY- 53
-I liked the use of zoom in your pictures. very nice. the only thing i would recommend would be slightly more interesting backgrounds, especially in the home shots. Coming along nicely, the story is. Good length, nice posing.

-I love your little twist you added to your story. I know from experience that older brothers are very overprotective. Well done!
I'm sorry, clw8. You and your band tried to arrive at Franklin Park, but their travel bus was attacked by a mob.

1st Apr 2009, 1:58 AM
ok.. thanks anyway :)
Oh, and not that it matters now, but, I only wrote 2 sentences per picture b/c I thought that that was all you were suppose to write

1st Apr 2009, 2:05 AM
that's okay... we loved you anyway!

1st Apr 2009, 2:10 AM
Don't worry about it, clw8. You did really well, and I'm sorry about the misunderstanding. :)

Good luck to everyone on Round III.

1st Apr 2009, 3:52 AM
LOL....yeah it was fun while it lasted!!! Again, thanks anyway :)

1st Apr 2009, 4:07 PM
I did the same thing clw8 ... all well better luck next time. ^_^

1st Apr 2009, 6:34 PM
So can we have more than the basic 4 pictures? I'm finding it difficult to tell the story only in four pictures.

PuX- 80's
2nd Apr 2009, 1:22 AM

I could hardly believe we won, CatNip won! We would be the opening act at Franklin Park's "Rock 'n Grass" The biggest annual rock concert in Sim City!! Thanks to 103.4 K-FROG, we would be the opening act; performing in front of everyone, meeting great ledges of music, living it up like a star for the night! It was like our dream had come true...

We spent all day preparing. First we meet with the people from K-FROG, the gave us a run-down on how things would go. Next we were of to wardrobe to find and be fitted for our act. I personally think each of us picked out great costumes, plus we got to keep them! After that we spent 4 hours practicing. So after all that hard work it was defiantly time for a little cat nap.

Dressed, make-uped, and ready for the world... well we were ready for Sim City at the very least. We took our place, a place we felt as a band, that we deserved.
Boston singing: It's the thirteenth day, of the thirteenth month and we are gonna rock. Put your tails down an your ears up cause we are gonna rock. NIP ROCK TONIGHT!!!!
It seemed to all be going well, we did our thing, the crowd was great, we got to watch legends preforming... Then it hit us. This was it. I think somehow with out knowing we all realized at the same time, we could never beat tonight. CatNip could never be this big. Sadly what was the biggest night for CatNip was also it last...

All that was two years ago. After that night the four of us desided to give up playing and struggling to make ends meet. So each in turn picked up the paper and looked for a job. We still get together for old time sake to play a few songs. Twist and I moved out of the hole apartment, into a nice duplex. Meeka and Flower were able to rent the other half so we still keep close to each other. That's good, cause it seems like other wise are lives are so busy there would be any time for each other.

Twist became a DJ at Club Heaven, and is now part owner of it! He loves DJing as much as being a drummer, and this is a good paying job. That we are defiantly going to need, because I am currently not working... we are expecting a set of twin girls next month.
Flower started modeling for a local ad agency, she is on billboards all over Sim City! She recently got engaged to one of the photographers she works with.
Meeka still works with children at the hospital, only now she is a CNA there. Except on Wednesdays when she grabs her guitar to spend some time with the kids.

So even tho we not CatNip, we don't get the millions, and we are best friends with Green Day; we are still happy. Very happy with how our lives have gone.

I did plan on taking more pics (these were from befor I found out we could use more) but my game will not load, I woke up sick, my son woke up sick, and I must go to work in 2 hours... Ewww. So I hope you at least enjoy the story.

I was so happy is was our next show. It felt like we had already gone through so much and it was just the beginning. This was the first "big" venue that we were going to play at. A park isn't really that big but compared to everything else it was a big step up. I was nervous for some reason, which is very uncommon for me. I tried to ignore my nervousness and get ready to sing.
We got on stage and I stared out into the crowd and I forgot the words. I couldn't believe that I choked. I had to unscramble my brain and shake off the mistake or the whole performance would be ruined.
I finally shook off my mistake and started to feel like I normally do- high on adrenaline.
I was having so much fun. I was sure that this was ment to be, that we would make it big and everything was going to be okay.
I started to look around through the crowd to see if everyone was enjoying the show and thats when I was him just standing there. He looked like he was so into the show. Until he say me staring at him, thats when he just stood there and looked at me. He was so hot and gorgous.
After the show was over, I invited him and a girl that would not stop bugging me to a VIP section of a bar where my BFF Marie worked.
Mark and I (thats the guys name) were flirting all night. He said that he wanted to see me again so I gave him my number. I was like a gitty school girl. I had not gone on a date with a cute guy in a long time.
Dana asked me to play pool with her after Mark and Melinda (thats the girls name) had left. She is so good at pool but for once I really had the urge to beat her so I decided to take her up on her offer.
I won against her for the first time ever! She seemed really mad and even got an attitude with me. She started to complain how I was horrible for the band because I always seem to mess up. Her and I got into a screaming match.
I started screaming at her that if I was so bad then why don't I just tell quit the band. She sreamed back, I hope you do, it would make everyone happier. I looked back at my other two sisters and they nodded their heads. That's when I decided...that I was going to quit the band. I yelled at the top of my lungs FINE! After that I stormed off into the night.
I didn't talk to them for 1 year after that. When I finally did call to talk to them again they said that they got a new singer, which happened to be Melinda from that night. They told me that they were doing better than ever.
I told them that I didn't call them to ask about the band. I said that I had something important to tell them. I told them that I was six months pregnant and that I thought they should know.
Thats when they asked me how it happened...
It happened six months after we stopped talking. Him and I had been seeing each other every night ever since that day. He and I were ready to take that next step.
I next told them that I wanted to spare them the scaring from hearing all the details. They were very greatful for that.
Then they asked what has been the best thing that has happened since that night. I told them the day when Mark rubbed my belly and started to talk to the baby.
They had a gig the day I called them, so right after I told them that they had to go and get ready for the show. They were very happy to talk to me and find out how everything was going. I mentioned to them that I didn't regret quiting the band and that it could have been the best thing that I ever did.
We continued to stay in touch and everything was going well for the band, so well that they made it to the big time like they had always hoped.

Six Months Later

Nikki: Alot has happened in the past six months. One night when we were playing at Cahnon's bar, a music producer named Rodney Sharpe came in. He stayed until the end of the night and offered us a record contract on the spot. I thought I was dreaming! He said our sound was exaclty what he was looking for: Fresh, unique and sexy.

Since then we've been in the studio, and our first album is due to come out next week! On top of that, we just kicked off the "I'm Not As Think As You Drunk I Am" world tour with Hypercrush and Millionaires yesterday at Franklin Park.

I was so excited about playing at Franklin Park, and with my musical IDOLS no less! It was such an adrenaline rush. We played all original songs from our upcoming album. The crowd loved it! Every moment we spent on stage was pure magic. After the show, we went out for drinks with the other bands and three college kids came up to us and asked us for our autographs. Can you believe it? Us! It was surreal. We had a really good time with the other bands as well.

Aside from our career, our home life has been pretty awesome.

Vic has finally accepted the fact that Trey and I are in love. It took around three months, but he finally came around. Although, one incident where Vic came home alot earlier than we predicted did inspire the only song on our album that Vic sings lead vocals on. It's called "Get the F*ck Off My Sister!" It's actually a really good song. Haha.

One reason of Vic accepting Trey and I could be Amie. Amie's our fabulous manager and Vic's girlfriend of four months. I've never seen my brother happier. Except maybe when he's playing guitar. Amie's awesome. She's funny, she's smart, and she's got great style.

So, my suspicions about which way Luke swings were completely right! I'm really happy that Luke finally came out to us. He's been alot happier recently. Although it could have something to do with that cutie he's snuggling up there. That's Aaron. Amie's younger brother. He's such a sweetie, and he makes Luke so very happy.

To wrap all this up, we're going on tour [managers and significant others included], we have an album due out next week, all of us have found love, and we've never been happier.

World, you'd better watch out. You're in for a little Rainbow Power.

After Skelter’s amazing display of complete assholedom, he booked it and never came back. I don’t know where he went, and I don’t particularly care. I’m sure he can take care of himself just fine. I hope he gets stuck in the sunlight and develops a light tan. He deserves the agony.

I think Muslin ran off and joined the circus or something crazy like that. I wouldn’t put it past him. Once I got a bag of peanuts in the mail. Very mysterious. And also a little creepy.

It took me a while to get over it. I mean, it was a painful kind of thing. But I’m a man, and I bounce back all right, I think. I’m a cat, and I land on my feet. The two combined make for superfast recovery of an impressive nature. After holing up for about twenty-four hours, I came back ready to rock. Sampson looked better. I think he and Ulrich figured something out. I don’t know the details, I don’t care. They both seem pretty pleased with themselves, though, sneaky bastards.

So, to prove my all-right-ness, I went back to Cahnon’s. I don’t know what I hoped to find there. The place was familiar. Some familiar guys chatted me up in their familiar fashion and left in their familiar manner. Charon poured something cold and kind of sticky on my lap, but he’s dramatic like that.

I had a few drinks, but nothing particularly heinous. I wasn’t there to drown my sorrows like a good little scorned lover. It was then that I saw him.

His name is Horatio. I remember my first image of him well. He had a headache because some crappy techno music came on and, though I didn’t know it at the time, he is a keyboard CHAMPION. Like, I think he and Beethoven could go head-to-head. Beethoven would win, of course – but by God, it would be a close second! So, he was irritated because the keyboards in the song apparently really sucked. Which they did, but you know, when you’re drunk you’re less picky about your tunes.

Ahh, he was beautiful. His hair was kind of wet because it was raining outside, and his face was scrunched up in pain, and there was a brilliantly white “WASH YOUR HANDS” sign behind him… and it was lovely. I’m not very poetic, but you know. That’s life. You get the point.

So I was like, “Hey there.”

And he was like, “They need pyrotechnics in this joint.”

And I pretty much fell in love with him right there. Like, right at that moment. Guys who dig the fiery explosions as much as I do are absolutely a plus.

So I invited him to dance.

And we were there, at the same place where Skelter played his last guitar solo as an Orbit. And it was nice. It was quiet, too, and it was Sunday, and most of the other homosexuals were nervous about grinding around on the Lord’s day, and all of that. Or most had hangovers from the night before. Or whatever the reason. In any case, it actually smelled less like body odor and lady’s perfume and more like coffee and booze, which is about right for a place like this.

He’s so pretty. He’s smart, too. Like… Muslin was pretty savvy, but he wasn’t SMART. It’s kind of quirky.

So anyway, Horatio was busy being pretty. And I was busy fluorescing. When green light shines on green fur, interesting things happen. So we were being pretty and fluorescent together and I knew this was going to last. I told him about the band. He told me about his keyboard (its name is Enrique… I don’t know, he has this thing for naming objects, I think it’s cute). We hooked up… not, like, physically. But, I gave him my card.

And okay, we did hook up a little.

Just a little.

Then we got a gig at this place. Because guess what - Horatio's aunt is this totally rich whore. Not a literal whore... that would be awkward, since she's like, eighty - but it's not like I'm one to question what gets people all hot and bothered, but wow, really? Let's NOT.

So, anyway, she was like, "I want my little nephew to play for the rich!" and Horatio was like, "Awww, man!" and acted like this was the most agonizing thing ever, because apparently he does this a lot, and Sampson and Ulrich and I were about ready to faint with joy. I'm not even joking. I choked a little bit. And cried. Just a little bit. They were manly tears. I promise. They flexed little tear muscles as they fell. And when they hit the ground, they waged war in a manly fashion. This I swear.

We played hard, well into the night. The old people mostly fell asleep or got drunk, but we're used to our audiences being like that so it was all cool. I enjoyed myself. The air smelled nice, like flowers and baby powder (aka, it smelled like old people), and... freshness. Skelter, because he had to eat stray animals or innocent bystanders to survive, almost always had a smell of blood around him. Now that he's gone, that metallic smell is gone. And I breathe easier.

I have never heard such amazing keyboarding in all of my life. I don't know where we're going from here, but I'm sure it's going to be great.

Cheesy, right? But it's true.
