View Full Version : MTS Official Contest: Foundations (Round 1) (Entries Closed!)

15th Jul 2010, 9:01 AM
Welcome to the MTS Foundations Contest! This is intended as a fun contest that anyone can join - even if you don't think you're a great builder/decorator! Challenge yourself, and see what fun stuff others come up with, too!

The Foundations Rules - What You May Build:

You are building a residential lot, on the foundation given. One foundation per round - four foundations total, so you'll be building four houses for this contest, one per week.

While you are welcome to get as creative as you want in structure and style, you may not touch the foundation (besides adding textures to it) - you have to build around it. It's the "footprint" of the lot.

Your house should have, at least:

A living room

A kitchen

A bathroom

Minimum 1 bedroom

You can build more than that if you like and have room for it - if you want to make it a 6 bedroom house with a rec room and study and garage (or whatever you want), go for it - you may not be able to show off everything for the contest though.

You may build as many stories up as you want - it can be a single level house or more, your choice.

You CANNOT add a basement, as this may require modification of the foundation. No, you can't add a WA non-foundation basement either.

You do not have to cover the entire foundation in walls - if you want to leave part as a porch or whatever, you may.

You may use build cheats such as constrainFloorElevation and moveObjects as long as you do not modify the foundation with them. It must stay the same height and shape.

You may not use split levels to extend or modify the footprint of the lot as an alternative to using foundations. Nor can you do floating floor tiles to extend the footprint. The supplied foundation is the footprint you must use - that's why it's the theme of the contest, and not just "build whatever you want on a 30x30". ;)

You may not rotate the foundation on the lot, or put it on a larger lot. It needs to stay on a 30x30, with the front as shown in the images (bottom of the picture is the front of the lot).

You can add a carport, garage, pool, gazebo, etc., as long as it does not modify the foundation, and as long as it doesn't add additional buildable living space - if you add an attached garage, for instance, it needs to just be for the parking space, and you can't build rooms on top of it attached to the main house.

There is no limit on the price of the lot in-game.

Your Pictures:

You'll need to be taking pictures of your lots you've built so we can see what you've made. Please make sure these images are AT LEAST 800x600 pixels so we can see them clearly. You may use larger images if you wish.

Photoshopping: This contest is focusing on your building and decorating skills - not your Photoshopping skills. For this reason, please do not do any significant modifications to your pictures in Photoshop or similar image editors - you may crop, add a little text, borders, etc... but please keep it to an absolute minimum.

Required Pics: For each round, you will be doing several pictures. Please do not collage your pictures together.

You may move sims into the house to make picture taking easier. The sims may appear in the pictures if you want - or not, it's up to you.

The pics you need are:

Street View: One picture of the lot from the outside, from the front, with all the levels showing, from a sim's eye view.

Floor Plans: One picture of each level of the lot, from a high overhead view. If you have multiple levels, you may post these collaged together into a single image, or as separate images - your choice.

Living Room: One picture of the living room, from a sim's eye view.

Kitchen: One picture of the kitchen, from a sim's eye view.

Bedroom: One picture of one of the bedrooms, from a sim's eye view.

Three Bonus Pics: You may post up to three additional photos of whatever part of your lot you want to show off - another one of the bedrooms, a cute bathroom, the garden, whatever. These can also be additional angles of the living room, kitchen, or bedroom. Whatever you want.

Custom Content:

To focus on your skills at building and decorating and not your downloadaholicism, we're giving you a limit: No more than 10 pieces of custom content used on each lot! And there's a scoring bonus for using no CC (see below).

If you DO use CC... you'll need to list what CC you've used, so we can count up for scoring - you don't have to have a link/credit, just indicate that it is CC, i.e. "CC used: Dining chair, dining table, custom pattern on table and chair"

A "piece" of custom content is: One particular item in the catalog. You can use any particular item as many times as you want and it still just counts as one. For example, one custom dining chair, used four times, would be 1 piece. Using its matching custom table would make it 2 pieces. Applying a custom pattern to them would make it 3 pieces. A custom counter and its matching island, and overhead cabinet would be 3 pieces.

EP/SP/Store content: Does NOT count as CC. You may use any items from the base game, World Adventures, Ambitions, High End Loft Stuff, and/or the Store content. As long as it's official stuff, you can use it as much as you like with no scoring penalty. We realize this may give a bit of an advantage to people with more official stuff, but it's just too much of a pain to score otherwise.

Free/Pay: Doesn't matter for this contest. While we always encourage people to use free content and support free sites, if you choose to use CC, you may use pay items for this contest. Of course, if you would like to upload your house to MTS when the contest is over, make sure you use all free stuff!

Scoring Bonuses: For using no CC or low CC, there is a scoring bonus for each round. See the "scoring" section below for details.

Scoring will be as follows. Point values are maximums for each category:

Structure - Interesting architecture, unique interior layout, uses the foundation well, good roofing, etc. - 10 points.

Decor/Furnishings - Well decorated and furnished (furniture, paintings, etc.) inside and out - 10 points.

Landscaping - Trees, bushes, plants, ponds, etc. which add to the look of the lot - 10 points.

Theme - Lot has a cohesive theme or style which works together with the architecture. You may choose any theme or style you want (even if that's just "contemporary"), but try to keep it somewhat consistent through the house - 10 points.

Aesthetic - Attractive, nice colours, good flow, looks pretty - 10 points.

Presentation - Good pictures, good angles, well-presented, interesting text descriptions - 10 points.

Wow Factor - Not just a house but a really GREAT house, over and above anyone's expectations - 10 points.

Custom Content Used - Maximum of 10 pieces. Scoring bonus for using none - 20 points:

No CC: 20 points
1 piece: 10 points
2: 9
3: 8
4: 7
5: 6
6: 5
7: 4
8: 3
9: 2
10: 1

At the end of all of the rounds, we will add up each participant's score for all the rounds (your total score). Whoever has the highest score wins. :)

This is a NO ELIMINATION contest. This means that even if you have the lowest score in a round, you can still continue with the contest. While there will be a winner and runners-up, the main point of this contest is to be a fun challenge to your building and decorating skills.

Judging will be done by MTS staff and will be scored based on various points (detailed above).

Judge comments are optional - judges are not required to make comments, but they may if they wish. PM me after scores are posted for each round if you would like me to PM you your judge comments.

We're offering a few fun little prizes for those who get the top scores:

First Place: A one-time change of custom user title (of your choice), a specially-created unique avatar, and a "Contest Winner!" achievement on your profile.
Second & Third Place: A specially-created unique avatar.

All contest participants will get an achievement for doing so (including those with the highest scores).

If you would like to donate an additional prize to the winners, please PM me. :)

Time Period/Duration:

Round 1 of the contest begins today, as soon as I have it posted up. Each round lasts 1 week from the time of the round being posted. There will be a total of four rounds, with a different foundation to build on each round, so the contest will last 4 weeks (if no extensions are given). Extensions will only be given if more than 20% of participants ask for more time to finish up their entries.

How to Enter

Want to enter this contest? Great!

1. Download and install the lot, attached to the third post in this thread. Double-click the sims3pack, open the Launcher and make sure it's properly installed to your game.

2. Load up the game, and place the lot from the lot bin into your neighborhood, on any 30x30 lot. There's at least a few in Sunset Valley.

3. Build your lot. Remember the rules above - the footprint of the house you build has to stay the same as the foundation - no adding or removing any part of the foundation or changing the footprint by other means. Build it up and finish it like you would any lot - walls, furnishings, lights, plants, beds, paintings, etc., in any theme or style of your choosing.

4. Take the required pictures and up to three bonus pictures (listed above) to the best of your abilities. Don't Photoshop them too severely (if at all).

5. Upload the pictures to any image host - Tinypic (http://www.tinypic.com), Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com), Flickr (http://www.flickr.com), or Modyourpanties (http://www.modyourpanties.com:8080/).

6. Start a new reply post here on this thread - click Go Advanced, and you can just click the little "Insert Image" icon in the toolbar, or just copy-paste the image location into some [img] tags. Make sure you put all your required images.

7. Write a description for your lot. How much you write, what you write, and formatting is entirely up to you - you can write captions for each picture, or a blurb at the beginning, or both, or whatever, as long as there is some text to go along with your lot. Make sure to mention somewhere in the text whether or not you've used CC - and if you have, what items are CC and how many there are. This will make scoring a lot easier for the staff!

8. Submit your post - doing so will submit your entry. If you need to edit or make changes to your post, you may, up until the time limit for the round. After that, no changes may be made to your entry.

Chat Thread

If you won't be able to participate in all four rounds, or don't want to follow the rules exactly, or just want to build but not compete, or just want to chat about the entries, please post in our Chat Thread (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=412324)!

Good luck, and happy simming!

Contest entries are now closed - you can not enter anymore! Very sorry if you missed out - but you can still post your entries in the Chat Thread. Whoever gets the most "agrees" per round (by the time each round is closed - and this won't happen early from now on!) will get a special mention in the contest. :)

Attached is a sims3pack containing Foundation #1, as well as a top-down view of that foundation. It is on a 30x30 lot (as all the foundations for this challenge will be) so it should be easy to place in your existing neighborhood.

Please note that the front of the lot is the bottom of the image shown - see the sidewalk at the bottom of the image? When you place the lot in-game, make sure that side is the front! There will be a scoring penalty if you get the lot the wrong way 'round.

Round 1 has ended!

We had an incredible amount of contestants - way more than expected! Because of the time constraints of judging, we originally limited it to 50 contestants. When that was reached super fast, we extended it just a little to allow anyone who was almost done to participate.

If you didn't get in, we're really sorry! But you can still post your pics in the chat thread so you can participate at least in some way - and we'll be doing another contest again soon, so you'll have another chance to participate in an official contest. :)

I'll join :)

The Former Graham Paulo Institute for the Criminally Insane

Over 20 years ago, to this very day, the Graham Paulo (who himself was ironically committed to the institute after attempting to rob a Police Station) Institute for the Criminally Insane burnt to a crisp leaving only a small portion of the original buildings foundations. It was believed to have burned down due to a grease fire which quickly escalated after throwing a pot of water on it.

Well, that brings you up to speed on the whole situation. 19 years later, the offspring of Mr. Paulo decided that it’d be a great idea to whip up a modern home for themselves. The only snag being they weren’t allowed to extend the main body of the house off of the existing foundations due to the fact that the site had been declared a historical landmark (yet they are able to build a modern house? Hmm, whatever.)

1 Year on, and the house was completed, here’s how the lot appears today:

15th Jul 2010, 3:28 PM
HP this is great! It'll be loads of fun. By rounds do you mean each scoring category?

15th Jul 2010, 3:36 PM
mr.moo799 - Nope. Decks count as foundations. You can use part of the foundation to make a deck type porchy-thing though. :)

Sparklycookie - See my reply on the Site News thread - short answer, yes, but not right this second. ;)

mnbmnb23 - When you're done building and decorating your lot, take the pictures specified in the first post. Then upload them to an image host - tinypic, photobucket, or modyourpanties.com. Then you'll need to make a post here on this thread, which will be your entry. Copy-paste the location of the image and wrap it in [img] tags. Repeat for all the required pics. You'll also need to write a little description for your lot - how you do this is your choice, whether you write a short blurb at the top for the whole lot, or caption each picture, or whatever ya want. Edit: I've laid this out in a step by step kinda guide at the end of the first post now. :)

suzetter - There will be 4 rounds - the contest will last about a month (if there are no extensions given if people need more time) with 1 week per round. So there'll be a total of 4 different foundations, and 4 different houses.

I'll try to put some of the above information in the first post to clarify for people. :)

15th Jul 2010, 4:10 PM
Okay, why am I time-zone stupid? :faceslap: CET is what time-zone code in GMT (eg. I live in Central Time (US&Canada) aka GMT -6)? I'm setting up a clock conversion on my computer so that I can keep track of when I need to have my entries in by. I'm thinking that it's GMT +1?

15th Jul 2010, 4:13 PM
Delphy will be setting up a countdown clock for us - I'm timezone stupid too. ;)

15th Jul 2010, 4:21 PM
Is it sad that I'm at work plotting out something on graph paper? lol

15th Jul 2010, 4:22 PM
YES! Thank you, Delphy! *bows down*

Man, I'd forgotten how LONG Sims 3 takes to load on my computer. And I don't even have much in the way of CC. *stares dully at the tiny sliver of green on the progress bar*

15th Jul 2010, 4:27 PM
Okay, I have a question about the lot. I put it on the 30x30 lot, but it doesn't look like the picture. Well, the foundation does, but the placement of the mailbox and trash can aren't. Is the side with the bay window-like extension the front of the foundation and should therefore be put to the side with street?

15th Jul 2010, 4:39 PM
I haven't done a contest in a long time. I think I will go ahead and try this. Im in!

I my - I must cave in to the temptation of this! :D That foundation has SOO much potential, it's crazy time for me O_O
(curses that he only has BG + Ambitions ;) )
EDIT: I'ma starting this today and will probably finish it in a 2 or 3 days :D

15th Jul 2010, 4:46 PM
Okay, I have a question about the lot. I put it on the 30x30 lot, but it doesn't look like the picture. Well, the foundation does, but the placement of the mailbox and trash can aren't. Is the side with the bay window-like extension the front of the foundation and should therefore be put to the side with street?

Happened to me too. 'Course, I'm such a newb at anything Sims 3 I could've screwed something up (literally, this is the first time I've loaded the game since winter). (...) Yeah, I totally put it on a 40x40 lot and not a 30x30 lot. I'm not used to having to check how big a lot is before I place it...

15th Jul 2010, 4:56 PM
You say we can add a garage and we can use CFE, but can we add an attached garage if we don't alter the foundation or add living space, just put in parking space(s)?

Yeah, it's been a while since I've played the game. I've had so many computer problems that I keep having to uninstall everything. Luckily, this means that I have no CC to be tempted with.

15th Jul 2010, 7:08 PM
I might've missed this but can we 'paint' the foundation or is it to be completely untouched? Also, should the photos be taken in build/buy mode or can we move in a family?

Im soooo in!!!!!

If you CAST a pattern, does that make it CC? It shows as a custom pattern in the patterns after you do, but I don't like the default colors for some of the patterns.

15th Jul 2010, 8:00 PM
I'm in!!! I'll be postponing the project I was working on 'cause this is much more fun! :D

Sign me up! I've never done a compiton before, so this should be intresting.... :Pint:

Oh this is awesome, i can't wait to try this challenge, i love these!! :)

EDIT: I have begun working on it! It is so much fun, i pretty much have the whole exterior done now! :D

16th Jul 2010, 12:37 AM
My make would look lovely on such a list :) Would you mind adding it :D

16th Jul 2010, 12:46 AM
Ghost, CASting is absolutely fine - CASting EA patterns does not count as CC; only if the actual basic pattern you use is CC.

missroxor, painting/CASting the foundation is fine, so long as you don't edit the shape of it. Pics can be taken in build/buy or live mode - but live mode is the better choice since, well, gridlines are ugly.

16th Jul 2010, 1:24 AM
This is so much fun. Thank you for such interesting challenge. Although I'm not a builder/decorator, below is my entry.

Dune Cottage

A summer house on the beach. Freshly redecorated, yet retains it's charm with original wooden panelling, light colours and thoughtful lighting. Three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, kitchen, dining-room and study is included. Exterior features small porch with armchairs, car parking space and modest yard with firepit and etc. Though the house is not the expensive one and room sizes are quite modest, it is enough to enjoy sunny beaches and salty breeze during the summer.
No CC, only EA items from base game and expansions, plus couple of items from the store.

Modern Yet Classic
A mid size loft house, perfect for the newlywed couple or the typical bachelor. 1 bedroom, 2 bath, and 2 car spots make this home cozy, but not too small. The exterior is made to match with traditional neighborhoods, while the inside is extremely modern a vibrant. I have no CC.

I love this contest! I have a quick question though... I wanted to add a fireplace and was wondering if the chimney foundation counts as an extension of the foundation?

16th Jul 2010, 7:40 AM
I want to join, is that still possible? I've never participated in a contest, I'm very excited! :D

16th Jul 2010, 7:47 AM
LifesLover - The bottom of the image shown should be the front of the lot. Not sure why it orients itself differently for some people - you're not the first to say so. Someone else mentioned it doing that in chat. Strangeness.

fragglerocks - I think that'd be okay - it's more about decoration than changing the footprint to add extra buildable space so a fireplace would be fine. :)

Marleen267 - Yes, of course! There's still plenty of room. Just make sure to get your entry in before the deadline for round 1! :)

16th Jul 2010, 7:58 AM
Sorry to post this again, but you must have missed the question. You say we can add a garage and we can use CFE, but can we add an attached garage if we don't alter the foundation or add living space, just put in parking space(s)? Or would this be considered a split level?

16th Jul 2010, 8:25 AM
GiveTheNineARide - As long as it doesn't add liveable/buildable space and is just the one level, I'd say a small garage that is just to house a parking space, or a carport is okay.

16th Jul 2010, 8:56 AM
Can we switch out foundation? Like deleting parts of the brick and replacing it with the wooden?

16th Jul 2010, 9:21 AM
I'll join :D

Rez Delnava
16th Jul 2010, 10:27 AM
Once upon a time in California, there was a architecture movement that involved copying elements from Spanish missions. These elements include high ceilings and low, squat towers. While popular for residential architecture in the early 1920's, this style is definitely not something that a trendy young Cali family would likely own, much less throw a house-party in. We at Delnava Design & Reality have recognized the needs of the new generation of home-owners, and being eco-friendly to boot, and have recycled the crusty shells of old mission-revival style houses and transformed them into high-style modern homes.

This particular entry in our catalog of Mission-Remodel homes is perfectly matched for a small family of 3-4 people with ample space for entertaining. While this lot is no longer on the market (now owned by a family of four: Mom, Dad and two growing kids), we encourage prospective clients to browse the pictures of this completed work as they contemplate purchasing and customizing their own Mission-Remodel home.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-53.jpg Note how we have taken the mission-revival home and given it new street-appeal. No more faded salmon color roof-tiles, and yellowed plaster; now it has a simple, yet elegant, duo color front utilizing the latest in recycled roofing materials and high tech stucco siding. While we removed most of the old yard material (Removed, not destroyed! We here at Delnava Design &Reality always replant any viable specimens.), we felt it necessary to preserve part of the history of the lot. Therefor, we transplanted existing roses from the premise, and placed them elegantly on trellises besides the entry.

Floor Plans:
Ground Level/Yard:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-44.jpg As we have stated before, we at Delnava Design & Reality believe strongly in utilizing existing elements rather than building new; so, we have kept the existing foundation and reused much of the original structure. As to our commitment to satisfaction, we give our clients many options for their landscapes. This family has opted for a modern take on Japanese landscape. The bamboo thicket in the corner of the back yard provides a natural sound and vision barrier to the nearby street while providing a natural backdrop for a small water garden. The main foliage elements of the lot consist of an aspen tree in the front and a Cherry tree in the back. As the clients are parents to two growing kids, Mom wished to encourage her children to have active fun while maintaining their safety. To this end, she purchased a trampoline for her family and we installed a swimming pool. To accommodate her safety concerns, the pool was fenced off to prevent children from accessing it unsupervised, and we placed Ice-plant along the edge of the trampoline. Because of it's thick, fast growing, and squishy nature, ice-plant makes a perfect ground cover to cushion falls. Dad wanted a place to securely house his classic car, so to the side of the lot, we built a small garage complete with a high grade shatter proof glass door so that he may also showcase his beautiful ride.

Main Floor:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-45.jpg This floor is the main living space of the house: front entry, living room, dinning room, and bathroom.

Kitchen Level:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-46.jpg While not a separate room from the dining area, the kitchen is on a raised floor giving Dad a clear view of the dining area from his favorite spot in the house, where he enjoys preparing healthy meals for the family and guests.

Master Bedroom Level:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-48.jpg This floor is all about Mom and Dad; master bedroom, master bath, and stair-platform. The platform outside their bedroom door gives a view of the entire house and is also the access to the bedrooms on the upper floor. Mom won't have to worry about losing people in the house; one glance around from her door and an attentive ear can tell her when people are upstairs, in the living room, or in the kitchen.

Tower Bedrooms
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-49.jpg This tower once house a faux-bell and a small storage space, but our renovation team converted it to a fully livable space with two bedrooms, a small shower room, and a separate toilet.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-50.jpg Featuring state-of the art recycled roofing and world-class insulation, these roofs will shed anything the weather can throw at them. Also, the black color roof provides an excellent heat source for the Sol-thermal brand in-roof water-heater.

Living Room:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-39.jpg As these homes are modern design, we love to feature homes like this that exemplify modern decor. As was shown on the outside, the interior also utilizes the white/black modern color scheme. The owners opted for cool greys for the wall color and complimented it with black stained wood and brushed aluminum door trim. The soft elements add a splash of color with the gentile blue cushions and the bright red lamp shades add a focal point to the room. The desk in the room is visually warming in an otherwise cool room, and acts as a transition with the contrasting warmth of the kitchen colors. The carpet is a plush Berber trimmed into a rectangular pattern to give a comforting repetition to the room that combines well with the square shapes of the furniture.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-43.jpg We wanted to give the kitchen and dinette area a separate feel without actually separating the rooms. To do this, we utilized the high ceilings of the mission-revival style; the raised platform kitchen gives a separated feel but allows one standing in the kitchen to view the whole area. To get the raised area, we used existing stone stacked along the exposed edges in addition to modern structural materials. The floor of the raised area is a compressed fiber board backed with steel mesh and topped with a lightweight linoleum. The floor of the dining area is bleached pine recovered during the renovation. The overall aesthetic of the room once again follows the white/black color scheme with the dining floor and stacked stone being contrasted with the dark synthetic counter-tops and black furniture cushions; but it contrasts with the cool and relaxing tone of the living room with warm brown walls and faux-rosewood cabinets. This is then accented with brushed aluminum appliances and chairs to match the door trim. The mirrors finish the room by expanding the space visually and spreading light which would otherwise be dim because of the high ceilings.

Master Bedroom:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/543053/Sims3%20Mods/Screenshot-41.jpg Overall, the master bedroom has a very different feel to it from the rest of the house. This is because it drops the duo-tonality found in the rest of the house in favor of more personalized style, while still maintaining the bold lines of modern design. Blue lights found in the bed and in the ceiling sconces fill the room with refreshing, cold-water ambiance. These lighting and water elements are continued even during the bright daylight due to the fact that the main bedroom window overlooks the swimming pool and the distant water garden, bathing the room in a reflected blue shimmer. The dresser and nightstands use the same materials as the kitchen cabinets and are accented by brushed aluminum to match the door frames.

Here is my entry to the challenge. I called it Modern breeze :)

The house is very modern looking, calm shades of blue with black and white. Landscaping follows the modern line. Big flowerbeds give it warmth and more color. Low white fences keep everything nice and clean.

The back of the house has a patio with bbq, resting and a pool. The clean lines are followed on this side too, keeping the look united.

I tried to keep the floorplan very open. There is a small kitchen corner...

...Cosy livingroom...

... A bedroom for 2...

... and a bathroom... (no picture of that one, sorry :P)

I used absolutely no CC or store content. The house is base game compatible and I might upload it little later on. Build time little under 2 hours :P

I am not really any story teller, so I hope you got enough info in this little post.

I changed the collage picture to that other picture of the bedroom, cause of the no collage pictures rule posted (clarified) later on this thread.

16th Jul 2010, 1:32 PM
I must say I really enjoyed this. It's definitely different having to completely come up with a floor plan cause I generally follow house plans when I build.

Here's my entry.

Opted to just do a one level so it's a nice cozy little 2 bedroom house. I followed the same general color scheme throughout. Nice bright happy colors.
The kitchen and living room are open to each other so it's small but doesn't seem as cramped. We have a master bathroom open off the master bedroom. A small laundry room.
And there's one other bathroom as well. Along with a study at the front of the foundation that is separate from the house. A little home office so to speak.

And out back we have a pool with a little flower bed right against the house.
No CC was used. It was all base game and expansion items along with the Ultra Lounge kitchen items from the store. So all official.

This is my entry:

The Lynahan Manor is a small 19th century manor built in the slopes of Sunset Valley's hills.

It's built in masonry, stone and wood. Although the exterior is antique, the interior is modern furnished.

It has two floors with one kitchen, one living room, two bathrooms and three bedrooms: 1 double and two singles.

It has NO custom content.

I hope you like it ^^

These houses all look great. <3 Good job everyone.
Is there any chance of something like this happening for those of us still in medieval times (read: those of us who are playing TS2)? :P The ten CC maximum might hurt me, but I'd still be willing to give a shot.

16th Jul 2010, 3:59 PM
@ DM: HP said it may come to light after this is over, pending a staff member who still runs Sims 2 being willing to host - she put the full notice/explanation in the Site News thread for the contest.

I'm still working on mine - first time I've even TOUCHED the Build/Buy mode in Sims 3 (and I've only delved into Live Mode a half-dozen times, so I'm pretty basic on the game), and those finicky little UCP controls for the camera are driving me NUTS (plus I'm not a huge fan of CASt), so it's slow-going. I'm going to try and work on it after my shift finishes tonight and then hopefully be done for pic uploading tomorrow!

16th Jul 2010, 5:36 PM
I'll see what I can do. ;3

EDIT: Err... seeing some of these houses... I'm no match for them! I'll still try even though I'm pretty basic still on houses

After a bit of experimentation in my game, I discovered that where you place the lot seems to affect the orientation of it. If it's adjacent to an east/west street it seems to spin. I don't know about North/South streets, because I'm using Build Town from Bog Sims to build in and it's full of corners. The lot doesn't fit on the lots that are only adjacent to North/south streets.

Entries added up until this point - please let me know if I missed someone!

missroxor - Yes, you may use buydebug items.

Anyone else who has already posted an entry: - Please make sure you indicate whether or not you used CC, and if so, how much/which items, please. I think a couple of the initial entries left out that info.

And now, I'm going to bed! So excited about the entries thus far and can't wait to see what'll be waiting for me to look at when I get up! You guys rule. :)

Your house looks fantastic, but is that the front? It doesn't look the way the front should for the foundation or maybe I'm just blind and the dark doesn't help.

16th Jul 2010, 11:47 PM
does it have to be sims 3 cuz it sucks.

16th Jul 2010, 11:56 PM
I have a suggestion for a round. Could we have a boat "foundation". That could be fun, but yeah, its only a suggestion :D

Eh? What's wrong with it being a TS3 competition? I understand that the TS2 payers also want to participate in a competition but still..

Well, I'm not the best builder in the world but I can make it look decent lol decorating is more my style. I will try hard HP though! Because this is my first contest!!! Good luck everyone!

17th Jul 2010, 12:23 AM
I don't think there's a set number of 'spots', just as long as you get your entry in on time.

17th Jul 2010, 12:52 AM
Oh no, fairycake89! I had a peek at your deleted post, and the lot was gorgeous. Good luck reworking it!

There are still 41 places going, and five days to get your entry in - no need to panic... yet. ;)

17th Jul 2010, 1:27 AM
I don't mean to keep pestering you with questions but can you clarify the rules on taking pics for me please as some of the unofficial contests on here can be really strict about following the guidelines exactly? I'd rather lose points for producing a rubbish entry than for not understanding the rules ;)

1. In the initial thread you mention 5 specific shots that you want and 3 bonus pics of our choice. Is there a points penalty for deviating from this and can we submit more than the specified pics if we want?

2. If we have to stick to just the 8 images can we make each one of the bonus pics a collage of several photos like we can with the floor plans pic?

Thanks :D

Totally agree. I only discovered contests with the last one and got excited about doing another....only to have to wait forever for it come around

Lesley and Solange Baumont have always wanted a house to live with their little family. However, Lesley wanted a real victorian gothic style house when Solange dreamt of an art deco palace.
With all their bickering, three years after the first plan was made...
It kind of ended like this: flat roof, too many windows and lot of useless balconies.

I tried to stick with mostly black and white for the house. No CC used. (The only "extras" I have are from the EA store.)

Hi! I decided to enter this contest, even though I don't consider myself to be a very good house maker ^o^'

First of all, this house is small, but perfect for one Sim (possibly two). There's one parking space, and one bike rack, but room for more. The rooftop is flat, so a second floor is possible. Also, not featured in the pics below aside from the overhead view, there is a very tiny library next to the bedroom. :3 The interior might look bare to some people, but for very neat or perfectionist (or lazy...) Sims, it's a great place for them. There's less to clean. xD

There is NO CC on this lot.

Kitty Terula, you've got the foundation the wrong way round. :/

Winterhart, depending on the orientation of the lot you choose to use, you may have to rotate the foundation or you may not - there's a short discussion on this a few pages ago. You do have to use the foundation in the orientation given in the first (or second?) post.

missroxor, there's no specific scoring attached to number of pics; although using all the bonus pics will of course allow you to show your lot off better. No - you can't add more than the required pics and the maximum three bonus pics. As for collages, I dunno. I'll refer that one to HP. :)

Okay, well, after - what, two days? - I managed to complete my very first house in Sims 3! Can we have a moment of silence in honour of this? *moment passes*

So, this is 365 Oak Grove Road in Sunset Valley - also known the Sunshine and Daisies house. It's currently priced at roughly 80,000$, and features two bedrooms, two and a half baths, a back porch and study.

It is called the 'Sunshine and Daisies' house because I tried to keep the decoration scheme inside the yellow-orange-brown colour spectrum. No custom content was used in the building of this house.

Ground Floor: Consists of entry hall, living room, kitchen, dining room, master bedroom and bath, another half-bath.

Second Floor: Consists of study, second full bath and second bedroom.

The kitchen - I like this best because it seems like the brightest, sunniest part of the house. I feel happy looking at that kitchen, just like sunshine and daisies should!

The master bedroom - this took on more of a dark, rich brown colour scheme, as opposed to the brighter yellows and orange that permeate the rest of the house. (Yes, I know, you can see the roof. :( I kept looking for my ceiling toggle and then discovered it wasn't there, 'cause I was in Sims 3, not 2. Realized after my computer shut down my game in screaming protest that I probably could've put floor tiles above it... Oh well, live and learn for Foundation 2!)

The living room. Not much else to say on that one.

Now that I"m finished with this entry, I'm going to let my computer cry for a little while and then boot up Sims 2 to convert the plan for a little bit of fun building later! I have to de-stress from the learning curve and subsequent howls of "WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS CAMERA?!?!?!?!"

17th Jul 2010, 3:56 AM
I didn't see any mention of a limit of 1 entry. Of course that doesn't mean it isn't there. I had hoped to do 3. The first 1 that is almost done has no EP or SP content. I plan on doing another with only WA content and then a third one with WA and Ambitions.

Thank you for your time. :lovestruc

I'm pretty sure HP said in one post, either on this thread or the thread for Site News, that we're only allowed one entry per person. So, I'd stick to just one.

Quick question. I assume I all ready know the answer.

Do you count expansion pack items as custom content?

Allready started on the lot and tried to play with base game items. So much fun, bringing back some of my "original" ideas and memories when I first got the game.

You upload your photos to an imaging website, such as photobucket. Then, you take the address for the picture, slap some img tags around it when you post your finished product, and you're done.

17th Jul 2010, 6:30 AM
shoot! accidently put the thing on backwards -_-' oh well. with a bit of minor modifications, I think I can flip it around. Just when I thought I was finished too!

17th Jul 2010, 6:35 AM
I have used almost every 30x30 lot in Sunset Valley trying to get this thing just right, Not to mention the houses I build with the foundation backwards. Almost done I think, hopefully it will be up sometime tomorrow.

Here's my entry in the contest. I had fun building this house, I needed inspiration to build a lot for a wealthy elderly couple, that want to move away from the original home. Too many grandbabies. (That's the way I see it.)

In Riverview, a family named the Bateman have made a name in town of being very well off and raising four kids. The oldest son has married and the wife constantly ending up expecting another grandchild, now making the extension of the oldest son to three children. The other three children have grown up and flew the coop, leaving the matriarch and patriarch to desiring moving out and live out their final days going on world adventures and having time to enjoy fishing and gardening.

While out taking a drive, they came upon a rundown home and saw lots of potential in a nice home with space enough just for the two of them. So they took a bit of the family funds and remodeled the home, checking everyday for the progress. Oh yes, they love the grandchildren and don't mind their company, but the daughter-in-law is expecting again. Now they are waiting for the completion of the new home to give their son space (and save their sanity).

Room For Two-Lovely Country Home

I am using Custom Content, the roof by tammytrauma @ MTS, siding by Nengi65 @ SimsCrossing, Dodge Charger by FreshPrince @ MTS, some free EA store items.

Thank you for allowing me to make my entry.

Edited for resizing pictures and credits.

After marrying the woman of his dreams, Jack promised himself that he would do anything he could to make her happy. When he discovered Audrey's adoration of Eastlake Manor and her childhood dream to live there one day, he took out a loan and surprised her with the keys and deed to their new home. Her love of Victorian era design had them frequenting yard sales and antique shops, looking for just the right pieces to fill their new home. Jack only had one stipulation; Audrey had to allow him to update the appliances so he could practice his craft at home. A year later, their house is beautifully decorated, Audrey spends most of her time outside in the sun and garden, and they are expecting their first child.

Front View
Built in the Queen Anne style, this home is the epitome of the Victorian era. Identifying features of such homes include an asymmetrical facade, dark color scheme with textured exterior walls, intricate and delicate details in the railings and columns, and elaborate roofing. As a girl, Audrey called the home a grown up dollhouse and even had her grandfather build her a miniature replica. She and Jack now privately refer to their home as "The Dollhouse".

Back View
The backyard is a botanical paradise with beautiful trees, flowers, a pond, and even garden gnomes to keep the outdoor lovers company. Most days, Audrey finds inspiration in the beauty of nature and she now has an easel outside so that she may work among her muse.

First Floor
Complete with a conservatory, the first floor has a spacious, open floor design. Also, the coat closet has been transformed into a half bath for guests.

Second Floor
The second level includes a gender neutral nursery, a walk in closet converted to an office, and another small bedroom that Audrey and Jack use as their den, plus 2 full bathrooms.

Living Room
Audrey has declared the living room to be the formal "sitting room". With a fireplace that is perfect for cold days, the room has been decorated in a timeless style that is elegant and inviting.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/21376_100717150045Living Room 02.jpg
Jack's kitchen has modern appliances but still holds the graceful style of the rest of the house. Breakfast bar, cabinets a plenty, and granite counter tops make this room fit for a 5 star chef.

Dining Room
Blending the antique style of the sitting room with the sleek design of the kitchen, the dining room harmoniously unites the first floor. Perfect for special occasions such as holidays and anniversaries, this room is sure to be the heart of the family, where laughter and momentous events are shared by all.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/21381_100717152223Dining Room 01.jpg
In other words, an enclosed porch that has such panache it must be called something more fitting. Brick makes up the walls, perfect for appealing to the sun's warmth, and open windows create a room that anyone would be happy to spend a day in. The conservatory has the perfect ambience for reading a book, taking a nap, or playing games with friends and family.

Master Bedroom
The bedroom has been designed to embody the meaning of comfort and instill serenity. Without the technological distractions of televisions or phones, this room is the perfect place to start and end every day.

Would Custom Patterns created with the official CAP count as CC?

I would assume so, no different then using patterns from third party sites. The patterns would not of been made by EA.

Woo! So many more entries! Contestant list updated. Please let me know if I've missed you!

missroxor - Up to 8 total pics. Please don't collage them for this contest so it will make it easier to see that you have indeed taken the required pics plus 3 bonus pics. The limit on pics is meant as a bit of a challenge - you may not be able to show everything you want to, so you have to choose what things to highlight with your pics, and what things to leave out.

Winterhart - I don't know why the lot doesn't want to be placed without rotating, but if you look at the screenshot for it that I posted along with the attachment, you can see the sidewalk along the bottom edge - that's the front. One entry per person - with four rounds and four houses to build, I think it'd be pretty tough to make eight or twelve houses, even for a prolific builder. However... well, see the end of this post... :)

jbk88 - Expansion pack, stuff pack, or Store content is not counted as custom content.

jessy503 - Custom patterns created with Create a Pattern would be considered CC, yes.

I can't remember who asked this... - And CTRL-F for "wood" is bringing up too much stuff... The question was "Can we replace the brick foundation with the wood one?" Yes, as long as the shape of the foundation remains exactly the same. It's basically just a different texture and doesn't change the limitations of having to build within that footprint, so as long as you replace it exactly, that's fine.

Please do NOT post "reserving spot for entry!" type posts! Please post your entry at the end of the thread!

It's really difficult to scroll through and try to figure out whose entry is new and which I've already seen, with so many - you can't reserve a spot just by posting. Ya gotta actually post your entry to get on the contestant list... And it makes it waaaay easier to do the contestant list if you post at the end of the thread - I know I've added entries up to a certain point and any after that are new, I don't have to scroll through the entire thread every time I add contestants. Thanks!

Chatter Thread:

I'm going to (in just a minute here) post up a chatter thread for this contest. So if you just want to talk about stuff, or if you really want to build a lot on the foundation but you don't really want to -compete-, or you won't be able to do all 4 rounds but still want to build for a couple of them, or want to do more than 1 entry... I'll link it up in just a sec. :)

Edit: Here ya go! CHAT THREAD! WOO! (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=412324)

17th Jul 2010, 8:39 AM
This seems interesting, if I can get TS3 working again (Patches ruin mods, enough said) within the limit I'll give this a shot, but I do have questions.

I do understand that the contest is about home designing and that is the focus, but what about having Sims present or living in the lot (such as for showing practicality as an in-game house or to go along with stories told) so long as the Sims themselves are not the focus of the screenshots? Would that be allowed in the contest, or not?

Please don't shoot me for asking such a dumb/idiotic question, but I wanted to know if such was allowed.

EDIT made to clarify post's purpose.

17th Jul 2010, 8:53 AM
Linen - You are welcome to have sims on the lot and include them in any way you see fit. It's not disallowed and if that works for you - whether you just want them there to make pics easier or if they're taking us on a guided tour, or whatever, that's your choice and you're welcome to do so. :)

17th Jul 2010, 9:13 AM

17th Jul 2010, 9:17 AM
saku-baka - Don't suppose you, um, read my last post, or the bit about only posting to join when you've actually got your entry ready...? :)

17th Jul 2010, 11:57 AM
Are you allowed to have outbuildings on the lot? For a nectary or hay, etc.?

17th Jul 2010, 1:27 PM
Coming from a line of French royals, Pierre is used to living in a huge, spacious home. However, when the palace is attacked by a mystery assailant - he is forced to leave and seek refuge in a town over the seas. Here in sunset valley, he has spent months building and decorating his house - with only a little help from the locals.

This is what he achieved:

Hope this is alright

17th Jul 2010, 3:05 PM
Beefysim1 - Yes, you can do a small shed or carport, or garage or whatever, as long as the required rooms are all in the main house.

17th Jul 2010, 3:20 PM
I'm in!
(Although I'll never beat Flabiliki xD )

17th Jul 2010, 3:38 PM
I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I just wanted to make sure. Are we allowed to paint the exterior of the foundation, so long as we don't alter its placement?

17th Jul 2010, 3:42 PM
Yes you can

painting/CASting the foundation is fine, so long as you don't edit the shape of it.

17th Jul 2010, 3:44 PM
LifesLover - Yes, of course! You can paint it however you like - or if you want to replace it with the wood lattice foundation, you can remove it and replace it with the wood one as long as it stays the exact same size and shape.

17th Jul 2010, 3:50 PM
Would default replacements that change object size count towards the CC limit? I have a few that make some of the deco clutter slightly larger or smaller but the original objects are still EA. Just thought I'd ask in case I want to use them.

17th Jul 2010, 3:53 PM
Awesome, thanks to you both! I was pretty sure, but I just couldn't remember.

17th Jul 2010, 4:16 PM
I usually don't join contests, but this time I just couldn't stop myself! So here goes, I hope you like it:

Greetings, it will be my pleasure to show you your future home.

Ah I see you have found a place to park your car already! Welcome to Summer's Breeze, a small yet luxurious abode with a great view of the landscape. Don't mind the croc, he is quite harmless. As you can see this place has a small terras to enjoy watching all those people that will pass by the house time and time again wishing they could have afforded it instead of you! Remember to give them a gentle smile when they walk by, so please keep the muhahaha's silent. It is a nice and friendly neighbourhood after all.

Do you enjoy a swim on a hot day, watch the stars at night or do you prefer to just sit back and enjoy the view? This place has it all! Once a month we will send people over to clean the pool and watch the plants. I know it costs you a penny extra, but trust me, you are worth it!

The Layout of the house is set up for ease of use. As you can see you won't get lost trying to find your bathroom in those moments of urgency!

Ahh, you are the sit back and relax type of person I see. Well you can enjoy that here for sure. Also you don't have to worry about any peeking toms since the bedroom is safely located at the back of the house!

A luxurious living room to sit back and enjoy a good movie or book. The windows allow for a summer ambience even in wintertime, just remember to keep the blinds up partly so you won't miss the looks of envy from those passing by...

The place to...ehm....well.. okay we go on to the next room! *blushes*

Don't let the size of the bathroom fool you, it feels much bigger when you are sitting in the tub!

The kitchen is a natural cook's dream come true! Enough room to cook a meal fit for a king. Hmm? Not a natural cook? Well, it is perfect to enjoy a warm pizza as well, the delivery service is remarkable in this neighbourhood!

*looks at his watch*

This ends the tour for today, I hope you have enjoyed it. So... *gets some papers from his briefcase*...will you be signing these now or shall we pretend you aren't dying to live here and wait a few days first?

When Verity inherited this seafront home from her Grandfather she didn't realise the history that came with it. Her great grandfather was George Longbeard the infamous Sunset Valley pirate and this had been the home where he had entertained his pirate friends, traded with acquaintances and held off enemy pirate attacks. Verity overhauled the house keeping the colonial structure but changing the colours from a dirty wood throughout to clean blues and whites but even though it barely looks like the same house she swears that on breezy summer evening you can still hear pirate voices on the wind as if they are still playing cards on the verandah.

OOps - forgot to mention it has no CC and as others have given the homes titles I shall go with 'Longbeard's Legacy'

Here we have a beautiful modern beach front home. The house was built by Taylor Hammer. She was brought up in Sunset Valley where she would spend her days playing on the beach with her friends, but her father was sent to Germany to work when she was still a young child, so the whole family up sticks and left with him. Taylor had always dreamed that one day she would be able to return to Sunset Valley. She worked hard at school and uni and finally passed her studies. She drew up the plans for her home, and got the best builders around to make her, her new home. Somewhere she could settle down, find a husband and make a family of her own.

The Pearl

Built in June of 1862, by the affluent couple, Baron Marcus and Rodmilla Simrood, The Pearl had stood as an testament to the era. Nary a day did pass that the Simrood's didn't host an opulent party within the grand halls. Laughter and music rang across the walls and slippered feet danced across the floor in merriment. For over two years, the Simrood's reigned in their lavish estate. But then, in a rather cruel twist of fate, the Baron, a heavy gambler, bet the Pearl and all of its surrounding land during a game of cards. Needless to say, the Baron was not the greatest player.

Having to say goodbye, the Simrood's left in shame, vanishing from all records after that time. The new owner reveled in owning the home, but it was not long before he began to fall upon hard times. In a desperate bid to stay, he sold the surrounding land, piece by piece. But even then, it was not enough, and the new owner was also forced to leave the Pearl. For over 60 years, it came to pass that each successive owner would also fall upon hard times within a few years of purchasing the dwindled estate, and be forced to leave. The Pearl came to be known as bad luck and no one dared to enter. For the next 80 years, the home deteriorated, the walls and foundation crumbling and rotting until what was left was merely a small amount of what it had once been. Not a Sim could pass by without a shiver racing up their spine.

A few years ago, the McSimpless' came to town. A family with some bizarre quirks and an interest in the rich local history, they immediately fell in love upon sighting the ruins of the Pearl. Impulsively buying what little remained, they took it upon themselves to gut what could not be salvaged. All that remained was an eclectic foundation, a few walls, and a mossy fountain in what used to be the back courtyard. Deciding not to completely restore the old home, since that would be too boring, the McSimpless' instead built upon the old foundation a home that housed their style. And they decided to fix the fountain while they were at it. After all, how many Sims had a fountain in their backyard? The McSimpless' preened with pride.

While the Sims in town look upon their new home with barely contained disgust, for it's most certainly not the prettiest home, and the decor upon the inside is somewhat strange and hodgepodge like, the McSimpless' are quite happy with how it turned out, up to and including the new turret they impulsively decided to add on half way through the building stage. This is, after all, their home that reflects them. As a side note, so far, the McSimpless' have not fallen upon hard times.

Zanzibar House - No CC used.
Welcome to Zanzibar House, the home of a Victorian Renaissance man Oliver Zanzibar O'Neill; explorer, anatomist and gentleman.
The unenlightened (ie., those pesky Landgraabs) call anatomists 'body snatchers' but it never pays to dwell on that sort of thing ... Oliver inherited Zanzibar quite by chance - he was the 'spare' not the heir. A close encounter with a dodgy serving of Fruit Cobbler saw the early demise of Oliver's elder brother Sebastian - or at least that's the public story - what really happened? Who knows .. However, Oliver does not let himself forget his fortune - he keeps Sebastian's skeleton on display in the study - lest he should forget where his good life came from - and it also displays his anatomist skills to his amazed visitors.

Oliver's home is decorated with the treasures of his exploring - his brother's legacy paid for that too.

Floor Plans for Ground, 1st and 2nd floors

Ground Floor
Entrance hall, Kitchen and study
1st Floor
Dining Room, Sitting Room/Drawing Room, 'Indoor Convieniences' and Log Store for upstairs fires.
Top Floor
Master Bedroom, Servants Quarters, more 'Indoor Convieniences'!

Oliver's Living Room, or as he prefers to call it - Drawing Room.

Oliver's lovelyBedroom, complete with his own tub!

The kitchen - Oliver employs three servants to take care of Zanzibar - they love working for him and often boast to their friends that 'unlike some households in Sunset Valley' they get a 'bed each, every third Sunday off and all the garden fresh onions they can eat' ... Extravagances unheard of in Sunset Valley domestic help quarters, I can tell you ..

Finally my bonus pics...
1 The Dining Room
Oliver entertains in grand style - very often his guests never, ever leave! This has its upsides, as it keeps the local Constabulary very busy indeed ...

2 The Imposing entrance Hall at Zanzibar House
Not much to say about this really, apart from 'Oooooh! Love the wallpaper!'

3 Oliver's Study - Also please note the stuffed and mounted remains of Oliver's pet raven Mr NeverMore .. his only childhood friend .. *sniffle .. * Also on the desk you may notice some 'potions', be assured they are harmless 'invigorating tonics' and nothing more ...

New edit: :alarm: NO CC :alarm:
Gawd I'm bad at titles. This is my R1 Entry: Warm Red Foundation. Basically it's a warm colored themed 2 story house with a few ideas from my actual house, like the outside walls (part brick, part siding thing) A cement porch with out railing, the deck, the outdoor lighting... that's the ideas from my real house (Which looks nothing like this :/ ). BTW, BASE GAME ONLY (I only have the base :/ )

Seeing how I'm scored from a description, I made extremely quick a little story. I wonder how it turns out :wtf:

In the town of Riverview (Well... before that), a small ranch once stood alone on a really empty street. Not long after more homes built up and then Riverview was named... er, Riverview. A terrible storm blew in one day and a tornado suddenly formed. Because this isn't a tornado prone area (and no one near Riverview never seen a real tornado). Riverview was like... uh... Greensburg... Only a few foundations were left (And a few lucky homes farther away from the tornado. The first homes to go up were the ones left with the foundations. Strangely, even though everyone knew this was the first house here, it was 3rd to be rebuilt (And not even tornado safe :wtf:) It was given a terrible name "Warm Red Foundation" and everyone lived happily ever after... The end?

*Nervous cough* ... Here it is...

Ran into problems with taking a good picture in there, so I went to the window for help. Think that a sim is on a ladder plz O_o
Main Bath, ran into problems there too and the windows isnt in a good spot for pictures.

:here: If I need to, I'll redo the pictures. Tell me if their ok plz
:here: I have used the edit thing to change some textures and colors, that's it. Does that count as CC?

cherios, I think you've got a couple of links wrong - your bedroom seems to be a kitchen, and you've got the upper family room twice. :)

54 Gardenia Lane
This is a two story family styled home that features a walk up porch in front as well as a porch in back with sliding glass doors, brick and siding facade. Lovely landscaping throughout the lot including a pool and home garden along with a play area for children.

There is a slight country feel with the wooden counter tops and painted cabinets in the kitchen that carries into the dining room as well as the living room, with creamy yellows and bright greens. Main level laundry as well as a full bathroom downstairs. The upstairs landing offers a quiet reading space, while the master bedroom is spacious offering its own private bathroom. The nursery is cozy but with plenty of space for a still growing child.

Well, I started this with the intention of just messing around, seeing if I could build with rules. I wasn't intending to enter the contest, but it came out better than I thought it would. I figured.. what the heck? Why not give it a try? :)

I've never tried taking screenies of Sims before, so.. I apologize beforehand if they're a little wonky.

On to the house..

A contemporary 2 bedroom, 2 bath home, suitable for a small family. It includes a small home office for those workaholics, separate dining room, upstairs master bed and bath with balcony overlooking the pool and fruit trees, and a small starter garden for those who enjoy getting their hands dirty. The colors are warm browns, creams, and a sprinkling of deep red throughout. The house boosts a fully fenced yard, marble entryway, and ample windows.

Mathias Wilhelm came to Sunset Valley with some pomegranate seedlings and sheer grit, thus Grenadine was built. Subsequent heirs have updated and added on to the original homestead. Due some unfortunate investments and the economy the current owner can no longer keep Grenadine in the family. Grenadine is a lovely little home with mature landscaping, and a producing pomegranate orchard.

you have to build on the foundation that was given, not your own:)

If it is there, I can't see it :p

18th Jul 2010, 4:24 AM
I have to agree. It doesn't look at all like the right foundation, and if it is, then it looks modified.

Also, there are far too many pictures. We're only allowed a certain number.

A house in harmony with nature...
"The Thoreau" is perfect for a bookworm couple who love nature. No tv, no computer, no car - just what one needs to live peacefully (and lots of books). A stocked pond and wrap around porch make one feel closer to the outdoors. Old wood and fresh paint give this home a rustic yet modern feel. Enjoy...

Hi guys this is my first ever competition and upload, just found this randomly and I thought I would give it my best shot. I'm not an amazingly creative builder but I prefer the decorating side of the sims. I only have the base game so I couldn't really avoid the CC and so I used up all my 10 slots i'm afraid.
CC- 2x kitchen cabinets, rose in a vase, white flower in a vase, garden veranda, 2x picture frames, bunch of roses in a vase, dining room table and dining room chair and these are all repeated throughout the property.

So here goes...

Elwell Manor is a fairly modest family home situated on the Riverview Clifftops, the style of the house is classic but with a modern feel to it. The house has an open plan living space on the first floor with a family sized bathroom and conservatory come dining room that opens out onto the garden patio. Upstairs there are 3 good sized Bedrooms, two elegantly decorated double rooms and one larger child/teen room larger enough for two and another family sized bathroom similar to the one downstairs. Outside there is a well kept colourful garden complete with a fairly large swimming pool and outside living space perfect for watching the sun go down in the evening and entertaining guests.

A beautiful, modern glassy house built right on the beach. Surrounded by crystal-clear pools and a sparkling waterfall, the clean edges and silver accents allow this stunning house to shine.
Perfect for sims who love the outdoors, have a green thumb, or are concerned about the environment, Cascade Silver is full of plantlife. In addition to the colorful decorative gardens in the front and back, there's a large vegetable garden in the rear so your sims can be sure they're getting only the finest produce. Also in the rear, there's a large relaxation area complete with lounge chairs and a modern firepit. Cascade Silver features two bedrooms and one and one half bathrooms, making it perfect for two to four sims.

so what do we have to call the uploa when we upload it?

18th Jul 2010, 7:22 AM
Whatever you want. You can call it upload if you want. It's supposed to be whatever you want it to be, so a lot of builders choose to be creative and give names to their homes, as sort of part of the theme, I guess you could say.

18th Jul 2010, 7:28 AM
This beautiful Victorian style home, perfect for a small family features a large master bedroom, small nursery, spacious yard, delightful kitchen, and a living room which includes a sunny breakfast nook.
Built by Mrs. Clara O'Riley after the death of her husband her granddaughter Tabitha O'Riley inherited the home after Clara's death and lives there with her young son Craig. Though the home has plenty of room to move in it isn't too big for the small family to feel overwhelmed, and the love that permeates the walls welcomes everyone who enters.

Street View
The quaint green house looks at you like an old friend, inviting you to stay a while and relax. The small garden outside is full of Sunflowers, a testament to the builder who loved the large yellow flowers.

The bottom floor contains a large living room with breakfast nook, bar, and dancefloor, a half-bath, and a bright kitchen containing everything you could ever need for cooking and eating.
The second floor contains the master bedroom featuring a private terrace for relaxing, a small nursery with adjoining balcony, and a spacious master bath.

Living Room
The large living room is filled with calming colors and is the perfect place to curl up with a good book or just sit back and watch some television.

The brightly colored kitchen is a fine place to spend time, you may start cooking more often just to be there. The design includes an island bar to eat at when in a hurry and top of the line appliances for all of your needs.

Master Bedroom
The large master bedroom features more muted tones to help one relax and settle into sleep. A desk, bookshelf, and easel insure that sleeping isn't the only thing you'll be doing, as does the comfortable double bed ;)

When the stress of the world just becomes too much to deal with you can slip out onto the terrace off the master bedroom. With comfortable seats to relax in and a chess table to take your mind away from more difficult things you may have to fight not to stay in the beautiful sunlight all afternoon.

Dance Floor and Breakfast Nook
The dance floor is the perfect place to party. Complete with breakfast nook, stereo system, and full bar it will be easy to hold fabulous parties or just get down with your bad self whenever you feel the urge.
Go Tabitha go! Now doesn't that look like fun?

This lot contains no CC
This is my first contest entry, in fact it's my first time uploading anything to the site. I am a huge simmer though and I'm overjoyed at the chance to enter a contest.
I apologize if the pictures are not up to par. I'm still getting used to the Sims 3 camera and how to set up my shots.
Hope you enjoy!

18th Jul 2010, 7:34 AM
I am so in. What sucks is, I'm playing on my laptop because my PC overheated  I don't have much CC anymore :(

18th Jul 2010, 7:39 AM
Menaceman44 - "Would default replacements that change object size count towards the CC limit? I have a few that make some of the deco clutter slightly larger or smaller but the original objects are still EA." - Eh, as long as they're the same as the EA objects and the size is just changed a bit, that's fine. Some of the sizes are really wonky by default.

gabrielorie - Erm, that doesn't look like the foundation supplied to build on at all. Please review the contest rules in the first post - you need to build on the foundation supplied, not just build your own. :)

Jace12 - You don't have to upload it unless you want to. Uploading it is completely separate from the contest and fully optional - to participate in the contest, you take pictures of the lot and post them here, as detailed in the first post.

Contestant List Updated!

13 spots left! Woo we're filling up fast! Get your entry in fast if you want to participate! Not many spots left! I have a feeling the spots will fill up long before we hit the deadline. Again, please let me know if I have missed adding you to the contestant list - I'm checking the thread starting where I left off, so any of you who (*coughignoredmecough*) did a "placeholder for entry" post upthread and then edited it, I won't have seen your post.

If all spots fill up before the deadline: We'll begin judging as soon as all the spots are filled up, and announce the scores ASAP. We'll also put up the R2 foundation at that point so you can begin building, but the deadline for R2 will still be the following Thursday (so you may have a bit more than a week to do your R2 foundation).

We won't be extending the amount of spots, though - I'm actually really surprised at how fast they're filling up! But we've got to get at least three different staff members to go through and judge every entry, and score them on a bunch of different criteria, and add optional comments if they want - it's going to take quite a while to do that as it is, and more than 50 I think would drive our poor staff judges batty.

If you miss getting a spot, I'm sure we'll do another contest again soon - both TS2 and TS3 versions, maybe another Foundation one, maybe something focusing on sims. You can also always post your house pics in the Chat Thread (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=412324), if you miss out getting a spot or you want to participate but don't really want to compete.

Round One
CC: None
Furnished: 144,805
Unfurnished: 75,203

This is a nice beach-side home for one Sim, or two. For Sims who want simplicity but also enjoy elegance.

Street View- This scenic home is adorned with flowers for the nature lover in all Sims.

First Floor- The first floor contains a living area with a large screen television, a reading nook, a dining and bar area and a kitchen that leads out onto the deck which leads to the pool.

Second Floor- One master bedroom enough for a couple or a single Sim. A chatting area by the stairs, an easel and a guitar can be found down the way for a more creative Sim. This then leads to the upper-level deck with a bench fit for some reading or cuddling, ;). This then leads to a reading and office area with a full bathroom off to the left and a laundry room right next to it.

Living Area- The living area has a spacious but cozy feel with soothing blues, greens, and whites throughout the room.

Kitchen- Spacious enough for the chef, and equipped for the beginning cook.

Bedroom- Beautiful view of the beach complete with a flat-screen television and two full-sized couches.

Bonus Shot: Dining- Spacious enough for four Sims and quaint enough for two. Complete with a beautiful view and a bar.

Bonus Shot: Pool-side- Sims can relax here by the pool during those summer days and nights.

Bonus Shot: Office/Reading Area- Perfect for studying, reading, gaming ;), or chatting with friends.

Well, this is my first competition and I think I did pretty well. :) I have always loved building beautiful but simple homes for my Sims. :lovestruc

This Foundation Challenge house was made for a Loner, Bookworm Sim who fishes, gardens, and loves the outdoors.

When Wintertwin DragonKin built her beautiful house there was no one else here. As years went by other people settled here and built up the town of Twinbrook all around her. Wintertwin is an extremely shy and private person. When a road was built right outside the back of her house, taking away her beautiful view, she built a tall fence around her small lot to maintain her privacy. In order to further safeguard her privacy WinterTwin asked her sister Winterhart to help her in the creation of Residential Rabbit Holes small enough to fit in 2 tiny rooms in her house.

Outside there is a swimming pool, fishing hole, picnic table and barbecue. There is also the beginning of a small garden of rare Omni Plants and Life Fruit. There is an Apple tree by the front door, and a large Cherry tree at the side of the house. At the back of the house there are strategically placed Aspen trees to further insure privacy.

(What really happened is Winterhart didn't read the rules until too late and had to do some quick thinking in order to salvage her Foundation Challenge house. It makes a good story though)

It's been really challenging for me stay in the limit of 8 pics without put them into a collage as usual, had to take off the sculpting corner, the bathrooms and the martial arts zone, almost getting crazy to let out the night view pics ... I guess this is the hard part of the challenge! I really had a lot of fun building and decorating this house, so thanks for this nice contest.

This is the perfect place for someone who need solitude and peace, with warm and comfortable style. It's designed for a single sim or a couple, and it features
- kitchen, living, studio, porch, bathroom at the ground floor level
- porch, little wardrobe room, artist corner/studio, bedroom and bathroom at the second level
The turret is purely decorative, there's no stairs to reach it, anyway my sims usually teleport so that's the good place for an exclusive stargazing night or meditation.

No CCs
EA Stuff from World Adventures, Ambition, Store sets (zen, tiki and some single free object).

Here's my post for the contest!

The "Halfway There" House

The "Halfway There" House is named that way, because of how it truly is. Its halfway from becoming a traditional suburban house to a modern/contemporary home. In the house you'll see a collaboration of traditional furniture pieces and modern furniture pieces. I also tried to make all the rooms really relaxing looking at the same time. Hopefully, this idea is presented is presented well. Now, on with the pics!

The Specs

One Bedroom, One Bath ( Haha, its a luxurious starter home)
2 Story
Extras: Pool, Workroom, Sun room, Deck, Balcony

Furnished: $135, 077
Unfurnished: $58, 811

CC Used:
Awesims Niche Loveseat
Awesims Cushion Set (1 only)
Holy Simoly Adele Dining Chair
EDIT* Flabaliki porch fence
EDIT* Alder Stairs by Flabaliki

Other furniture pictured is from the Sims 3 Store

The Outside

Now, the house is really traditional suburban looking but with the help of the green slider paint and the modern-ish fence its not only unique but contemporary.

Floor Plans

Floor One: Living Room, Kitchen and Dining Room, Sun Room, Entryway

Floor Two: Bedroom, Bathroom, Workroom

Living Room

This is the cool living room! to me anyway... Now its modern because of the colors used like the black, yellow, and blue. Its more traditional with the white furniture used. This room is really unique and relaxing, so I like it.

This is the kitchen, which I think is the most modern part of the house. The black counters made it kind of dark so I added the blue walls to make it more open. In the picture you can see the very small wine cellar I added since I couldn't make a basement lol.

This the bedroom which is more traditional than any other room in the house. I like the green room because its nice and relaxing.

Extra Pics

Because we get extra, I couldn't resist adding them:

The Sun Room!

I really like sun rooms so I just had to have one in this house. The deck is pictured in the back. I wished I had this room!

The Bathroom

To me the bathroom is pretty contemporary just how the bathtub is sectioned off, and the lighting. The picture is awful though it looks better in the game.

The Balcony

I couldn't figure out what other picture to take, and this one has a nice view.

Enjoy! :) :anime:

Contestant list updated! 8 spots remaining!

18th Jul 2010, 10:07 AM
Hopefully I haven't been too slow and there's a spot free :)..

The Forgotten Lighthouse

The small town of Simpton-On-Sea used to be a thriving little fishing village, the old lighthouse served as both an aid to sailors and a small port authority storage location. Many years have passed since this old lighthouse really served any purpose, with the coming of the highways and bridges no one needed to bring in supplies by boat. It is believed that an old salty seadog tends to the place now and then so it doesn't fall into total disrepair though it is somewhat overgrown. Seagulls cawing overhead and the gentle lap of the sea are the only sounds here now..

2 Bedroom
Kitchen / Dining room

Special Features
Bothersome seagulls
Gentle rolling waves
A pier to fish off, into the "sea"
Salt water fish in a faux sea
Fully accessible Lighthouse style tower
Did I mention the annoying noisy seagulls?

$50,827 - Furnished
$37,414 - Unfurnished

Street View

Floor Plan
Rather than showing mostly the same image twice I chopped out and labeled the upper parts of the Lighthouse tower to save space.

A Bedroom
The other bedroom is a similar but less fun looking bedroom for an adult / parent perhaps.

Bonuse Shots!!

A rear side view of the lot, you can see the faux sea containing saltwater fish and the little pier attached to the back of the warehouse style building.

A better shot of the lighthouse style tower during the day.

You have 3 pictures too many, maybe make a collage of the floorplans?

You have 3 pictures too many, maybe make a collage of the floorplans?

"Floor Plans: One picture of each level of the lot, from a high overhead view. If you have multiple levels, you may post these collaged together into a single image, or as separate images - your choice."

Ah, yeah, sorry, I think that confusion is my fault - you can collage together the floor plans (or not) but not any of the other pics. So that's fine. :)

The Gardens of Marrakesh

After taking that vacation in Morocco, I just HAD to have a home that evokes memories of the gardens of Marrakesh.

This lot has an extensive private garden off the master bath in the back of the house and a small, private, fountain garden off the front.

The home has a light and airy, 2 story living/dining area with the peek-a-boo windows on the upper floor looking down into the living area. In the back of the house there is a large formal fountain, shaded by mature palms and olive trees. Bougainvilla, roses and hydrangea scattered throughout the gardens lend splashes of color in unexpected places.

In such a hot climate, water features are so very restful and inviting. You will find small fountains and ponds in tucked into alcoves, nooks and sideyards throughout the lot.

There is absolutely NO CC in this lot - I don't have any CC which explains the lack of pillows and kitchen clutter and lack of plant varieties. I have all EP's and stuff packs. You will find some 'treasures' from WA from debug/buy on the lot.

I hope my entry isn't too late!! :) I also hope people will enjoyed my presentation. This is my first post; since I just registered yesterday. Huzzah for TS3!! :turtle:

Rusty Chip house

Rusty Chip house was named after the original owner, Mr Rusty Chips. He had lived here with his wife Margaret, son's Louis and Rolph and little Emily. The house itself was built by Rusty's grandfather Josiah, who was a keen clock collector and llama enthusiast. Of course you wouldn't know this by looking at the house. There are barely any clocks and no llama's whatsoever. Rusty's father Buzz hated his father and after Josiah passed away Buzz made sure there were no evidence of his father's existence. This caused him to be plagued by nightmares of being chased by a llama who had swallowed a clock. This eventually led to Buzz hanging himself from the tree by the pond.

Rusty of course inherited the house and did his best to make it a good home for his wife and children but on one lovely Autumn day whilst Margaret was hanging the washing on the line outside little Emily was playing in the garden and toddled into the pond. She was caught up in some weeds and pulled straight under and by the time Margaret noticed it was too late.

This was all too much for Rusty and Margaret's marriage to cope with and Margaret left with the two boys. Rumour is she ran off with an Egyptian shop keeper and is now living in Al Simhara.

Rusty managed on his own until he perished in a kitchen fire whilst cooking mac and cheese.

Here is your chance to own this little luck closet!

The house is reasonably spacious with 2 double bedrooms and a single which at a push could easily squish another bed or crib in. 2 Bathrooms, one with a bath and one with a shower. The landings are generous so they would make an ideal area for walking to different rooms and opening several doors at once. The house also boasts a spacious newly fitted kitchen and dining area, a dreary living room, a small study and a mature garden which still has the small pond.

As you can see the house needs some modernising, the wiring and plumbing is original and the only renovation done prior to sale was the fitting of the new kitchen. This house is still a bargain at only $64,414 fully furnished although I would recommend changing the sheets and fitting a wire mesh over the pond to avoid any "accidents". Sold as seen. No refunds. Life insurance not included.

Citrine Hyland-Price was a young girl when she was first pulled into the world of superstardom, entering a contest with her older brother and younger sister as a trio - a scout heard her solo in their song and was hooked. She was only about, what, thirteen or so when she made her first album? Said album made Citrine a teen idol. Being the Good Sim she was, she couldn't say no when they asked her to go on tour.

Now in her early twenties with a new persona and stage name - H.P. Lemon - Citrine found her popularity waning and her conscience aching. Maybe all those years she was working for the record companies, but on the other hand, she made little effort to get in touch with the family she left behind. Then Citrine's plumbob lit up - she would get back home and make up for the nine or so years that she ignored her loved ones. In an effort to lay low from the press, the young woman chose to buy one of the regular houses in her hometown of Riverview and get some renovations to her liking instead of building something new.

http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/RainyDaysofSun/GaianProfile/art-roleplayish-stuff/th_Screenshot-2SMALL.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4804658084/)

Overhead Floor Plan: Ground Floor and Second Floor
(I made sure to keep the second floor to the footprint's edges.)

When Citrine had been thinking about color schemes, she chose not to have a definite color scheme throughout the house, but in an effort to keep things together and related, any wooden furniture was stained in a color close of the wood already stained in the house.

There was not as much of a definite style, however. The furniture bought for the three bedrooms - two of which were actually guest rooms - was more edgy and distinct than the rest of the furniture in the house. For her nephew and youngest twin sisters, though, it made a good contrast to that of their more conservative-styled parents.

It's a pain to go through that small hall seen next to the stairs every night due to the plants, but the plants do a good job of hiding the burglar alarm at the end of the hall. Luckily they work at concealing the alarm from the young ones, too.

http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/RainyDaysofSun/GaianProfile/art-roleplayish-stuff/th_Screenshot-6SMALL.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4805730806/)
http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/RainyDaysofSun/GaianProfile/art-roleplayish-stuff/th_Screenshot-7.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4805733040/)

Kitchen/Dining Area

Citrine is creative. Put her near an instrument-only song, she'll have the urge to find a notepad and write some lyrics. Putting her near a bunch of food, though, might not be such a good idea. Especially when you have tons of kitchen equipment that she's never touched... she's got a tendency to ruin food. Her kitchen isn't stocked with all the equipment needed to make Ambrosia, but putting her lack of skills in mind, she'd make the exact opposite of it.

The dividing wall is actually padded - no kid is gonna be losing blood in Citrine's house from hitting that wall while playing a game! - but the padding surface was miscolored from that of the actual wall when it was requested.

http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/RainyDaysofSun/GaianProfile/art-roleplayish-stuff/th_Screenshot-9SMALL.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4804662524/)

Living Room

Citrine loves karaoke, though she rarely uses a lyric screen. She actually has a few of her own karaoke tracks in her collection as well, though those are usually stored in her room rather than the CD rack next to her TV. Occasionally she'll play the game console on the coffee table, even without guests over... those kart racing games grow on you after a while...

(CC used, Microphone)
http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/RainyDaysofSun/GaianProfile/art-roleplayish-stuff/th_Screenshot-8SMALL.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4804031953/)

She's mostly here for RR&R - rest, relaxation and reconnection - but you can't keep a great singer down. We all know how inspiration is - so Citrine's grateful for the notepad that currently sits next to her computer. If Citrine's room was soundproof, she'd try how well she can record her voice in here, but it isn't. It makes a good spare microphone when people are arguing who will sing what first on the machine downstairs, though.

BONUS PICTURES: Extra Bedroom and Foyer

This room is where her youngest siblings - her twin sisters - sleep when they come over. The stuffed animals are clingy toward the floor of this house, even if the sisters aren't. Must be something to do with the static electricity in there.

http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/RainyDaysofSun/GaianProfile/art-roleplayish-stuff/th_Screenshot-11SMALL.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4804663248/)

Here's a good thing about this foyer; if you have to wait a really long time in here - which probably won't happen, as the owner of the house wants to be polite - you can always pick up a book and read to sway away boredom... then again, it doesn't really help that much, but it's better than standing while you wait.

http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/RainyDaysofSun/GaianProfile/art-roleplayish-stuff/th_Screenshot-12SMALL.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4804034135/)

This entry isn't finished yet but I REALLY wanted to have a go so is this enough to secure me a spot or have I missed out? I should be back with the finished product in a couple of hours.

18th Jul 2010, 1:26 PM
50 Spots Filled... However...

Okay. After consulting with the other staff and my sense of guilt, I've decided we can go a little bit over 50 contestants. I would feel really bad if someone worked all day today on a really great house and then couldn't get in because they were just a bit slower than #50. So...

If you are already working on your house and are almost done, get done fast! There's still a little time!

Right now it is 14:19 here. I will close the contest for the last contestant at or just after 21:00 - so you have about 7 hours from the time I post this. This hopefully should give most of you time to finish and post.

Please do not just post to get a spot though - please only post when your entry is complete or very nearly complete. You can edit your entry up until the point voting starts, but no posting just to reserve a spot.

If you have already entered...

Please finish up your edits as soon as possible. Please also make sure you have indicated whether or not you have used custom content, and if so, how many pieces and which they are. You MUST put how much CC you have used! If that info is not on your post we will assume you have used the maximum of 10!

And just to stem any potential drama - if you see someone has used some CC in their post but they haven't noted it/counted it, please point it out before judging starts so the contestant can fix it. If you do not point it out before judging starts, please hold your tongue as we will not be redoing scores.

yeeeah I saw that just after I posted. I figured I'd leave that post there to "edit" it into my actual entry. That way, I don't have to write yet another post in the last 45 minutes. (3 in 45 minutes it a lot to me).

So I will recycle my last post.

BTW, thanks for extending it. I'm not sure if anyone else will thank you, but it does mean a lot. I've been working on this one for days (not days straight), but on and off. I've been quite busy, and have been squeezing in time to finish it. It's done =).

So heres what I built :p I was glad to read that you take more than 50 contestants so my work didn't get wasted.

The Blue Lagoon House
The Blue Lagoon House was built in 2008 and was meant to be a house for the architecht who designed it himself. However this architecht didn't ever get to live in the house as he died in a car accident just a week before the house was finished.

The architecht, Susan Gardo, had a weird taste when it came to the colour of the house overall so none of his relatives wanted to move in her dream home. They put the house in market, but it still wasn't sold due to the colours of the house. The relatives hired a designer, Anita Thár, to redesign the colours so they would look better.

Anita succeeded in her task magnificently. The house sold for 200 000 § just a week after her renovation was finished. Now the owner of the house is more than happy with her new home and has named the house "The Blue Lagoon House" due to the blue theme of the house.

A Brief History:

Way back in the old times, a log home was built on tip of Charter Hill. This home, insulated with only pine needles, had every single aspect of it, made of wood. The furniture, windows, (Before glass was "in style") kitchen appliances, and even clothes; they were all made of wood. The only thing not made of wood was the foundation. It seems like a recipe for disaster, right? Well it sure was. Only 5 short years after the home was built, a destructive wildfire broke out in the Charter Forest, just adjacent to the hill... thus the home. Surprisingly, the home completely burned down with a heep of smoke, leaving the only non-wooded thing behind: The foundation. In many years later, a young architect found Charter Hill, and it's old foundation left of a house in a time before. This young architect decided that it was great place to build a home. Only three years later, this masterpiece took the old log's home place, standing nearly three floors high. The landscaping and vegetation thrives quite well, for the home is surrounded in soil full of ash. The home, this time, is made out of less-flammable materials, such as stone walls and a slate roof. The interior, though, still has the cozy yet functional feel of a modern-day looking cabin.

Some facts about the home:

Home Price:
-Furnished: $181,300 Simloans
-Unfurnished: $128,200 Simloans
-Bedrooms: 3
-Bathrooms: 3.5
-Garage?: Yes, one car, unattached to home
-Levels: Two
-Rooms: 14
-Fireplace(s): Yes, 3
-Other Special Features:

-** NO CC **
-Wine cellar just off of Kitchen!
-Many porches/loggias for your enjoyment!
-Landscaping around whole yard, to the max!
-Upstairs laundry "room", near each bedroom!
-Each bedroom has own full bathroom!
-Master Bedroom has en suite kitchenette!
-The foundation was NOT altered in any way, but "overlooks" in porches and actual house appear to have a foundation. They are not connected to anything below them, but are an architectural element to the home!

Here are some pictures:

This home was a blast to make. It started with a simple idea and blew up into my first Challenge entry. I find it fascinating how different simmers interpret the foundation differently. It's amazing to see the same "base" to a home, but different "make-up". Awesome!

Also, I am planning on posting the home up for download sometime in the near future.

Thanks for the opportunity and happy judging!

This is the Home of Geoffrey, a lecturer in sustainable energies at the Centre for Alternative Technologies.

The house itself is made of a mixture of compacted straw bales and earth and roofed with reclaimed Welsh slate tiles and solar panels.

On the ground floor is the living room, with study area and large kitchen and dinning for four.

The second floor has one bedroom with on suite bathroom.

Geoff will only buy product made of sustainable materials and as such has great pride in his collection of second hand wooden furniture. His most resent find was a old oak kitchen for sale on eBay.

Being vegan Geoff likes to grow all of his own vegetables, to further reduce his carbon footprint. To the rear of the Vegetable garden is a compost heap, rain water collector and shed which house Geoff bikes and recycling bins.

Well, I guess I can't enter which sucks, because I really wanted to. The Game just stops responding.

I'm still gonna try though :p

Just a note to HP: Sims 3 Borkiness has caused me to abstain this round, would it still be possible to participate in further rounds?

18th Jul 2010, 5:32 PM
just a quick question for Gail.wyness, how do you make your staircase like that? Is that a new thing in one of the expansions. Ive always wanted to be able to make my stairs on different levels like that :/

RoiseRuby - the stairs use the CFE cheats. QbuilderZ has a handy tutorial on them here here (http://www.modthesims.info/article.php?t=412263)

99% sure you have to be in from round 1 to participate further.

Welcome to your new beach home. It is a two story house right off of the beach and the old lighthouse. Its warm and cozy and you'll just love it. It was built in 1956 so it's not that old but it does need some yard work and a few touches here and there. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/wilmajjetson/mts/Screenshot-149.jpg

Here are the floor plans for the house. Im sure we can kick out a wall here and there to expand if you'd like.

Lets go to the living room. I see your boyfriend likes to read. He can relax on the lounge chairs out in the back and soak in the sun while reading. I can see he's also gone for a swim already unless he just likes to wear swim trunks around the house

Look at this amazing kitchen you have! You can cook and do the laundry in the same room to save you some extra free time later on.

Here is your bedroom. You'll have a lot of privacy in there with the blinds.

Lets take a step outside. There are some flamingos that wander around the areas so don't be afraid if you see them in your yard. You have a nice backyard with a pool and jacuzzi. Take a dip why don't you.

Here is the upstairs loft where you can paint a masterpeice, play foosball, surf the web and read.

This is the kids bedroom. I just love the sea wallpaper and the animals all around. They will love it!

Thats the end of the tour. If you have any questions just give me a buzz. Have fun, I'm off to lunch :)

The wind is changing for Florence and it brings great opportunities.

A new life.
A new place where to start again.

Florence open the door and enters the house.
She smiles, She's finally at home.

Man, it is amazing what others have come up with for this challenge! Makes what I come up with rather... ordinary. Still, it's already made, so might as well submit it.

I called it the Charming Yellow Villa, because, um, it's yellow. Has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, a spacious living/family room, a large upstairs deck, a small covered porch out back, and even smaller entrance porch in front. Has a detached one-car garage too.

Wow everyone is so good with building. My house is so simple :( Good luck everyone. I can't wait for the results :)

18th Jul 2010, 6:16 PM
I hope it's not too late.

The sims3pack with the foundation opened the launcher, but didn't show up in it so I built the foundation excactly as shown in the picture, I hope that doesn't break the rules.

Some of my Sims wouldn't have lamps and wallpaper if they didn't complain about not having any and now they even have curtains.

There is no CC that I'm aware of, I only have a few patterns that aren't from the store and I don't think I used them, but it's hard to know.

My house... it belongs to a crazy, childish 25 year old inventor whose favorite colors are present in every single room of the house. She lives there with her little brother (who is a genius and likes to read a lot) since her parents died in a car crash...

Little Mansion

Here it is, a 3-story detached house, that has recently been renewed to host up to 4 people. The real peculiarity it's the beautiful back-garden, with a gazebo and a patio for a hot-day BBQ. Here you are the images:

p.p.s. I'm Italian, so forgive my bad English :)
p.p.p.s. I had some troubles with the game, so most of the house is unfurnished. I had completely finished it, but, when I was about to save, I lost everything. I'm sorry
p.p.p.p.s. I don't know why my ceilings appear all black when in Camera mode, any guesses? I'll post my question in the right section later :)

That's it! Thanks! :D

This is my first ever upload, let alone joining a competition, so who knows how this'll turn out... basically, I've made it look like most of my other houses I make, but to fit the template! I'll let the pictures explain, cuz I'm no good at it =]

Right... I realised after I made the entire house and took the screenshots that I had a bay window that I wasn't allowed, but I needed it there so... its worth losing points for!
Obviously no CC used, and as far as I'm aware I didn't even use store stuff just to make sure!

I'll put the link to download up if/when it gets accepted

i want to do it, the only problem is i don't know how to upload things on here, i have tried looking up how to but it doesn't help. is there a fourum i can read to figure out how to? :help:

18th Jul 2010, 7:24 PM
Dancelver, I could be wrong but I think there's only half an hour left so you'd be cutting it really fine to finish on time.

If you just want to upload images you can find tutorials here: http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=581

18th Jul 2010, 7:31 PM
Simlicious, where did you get that cupcake thing sitting on the table from and the moon thing on the wall in the master bedroom? i must have it :)

Dancelver, you upload your pictures to a website and use [img] to have them in your post. Its mentioned on the first page of this thread :) You do not need to actually upload the house but to upload it anyway you go to the toolbar at the top of the page and under "Create" there is a "upload item" button. Follow the instuctions in there :)

18th Jul 2010, 7:32 PM
dietdrpepperfan - I'd just missed it by accident in all the scrolling. You're on the list now.

Contestant list updated!

You have approximately 20 minutes remaining!

Also, regarding when judging will start...

Because I have to do a spreadsheet and stuff for it with neat little links, we won't be starting judging right as soon as everything closes. So if you still want to edit your entry that you've already submitted, you still have some time to do so. Please get any edits done within the next 12 hours-ish. After that, this thread will be locked for judging.

Scores will be posted as soon as I get them back and calculated.

Round 2...

I will post up the foundation for round 2 tomorrow, in a new thread. You'll be able to begin posting round 2 houses immediately - but the deadline for round 2 will be as it was planned before - for Thursday, the 29th. This gives a bit of extra time for everyone to work on their lots - which should be a relaxing change from the rush to get in on Round 1. :)

18th Jul 2010, 7:41 PM
Just in time, yes? I hope so.

This is Sky View House. It is a contemporary home which would be suitable for a loving couple. Due to building restrictions, they would however have to move out if they wished to expand in order to raise a child. Featuring a calming, blue colour pallet throughout the interior any Sim would find it difficult to lose their cool here. There is also a large, spacious garden out to the back of the property featuring a heated swimming pool and paved area suitable for social gatherings.

Well I think I'll need a holiday some place like this after this round of the competition. After two crashes, having to rebuild entirely, having the flu and realising there were millions of people entering... here it is!

A little slice of heaven whether your live in suburbia, by the beach or somewhere exotic. You can be sure your home life will always be fabulous and relaxing! The styles are a little mish-mashed but I think it works. The idea was bringing indoors and outdoors together, so you can enjoy that Carribean resort-style garden from anywhere in the house.

No one will probably notice but this picture is slightly different, I went back to revamp the roof garden to make it more lush, added two small fountains and a place to sit and think, so the time of day was slightly different and I added some different things to the landscape...

Three additional images!
Features Barbecue area, small rock garden and breezy sun shelter/tent thing.
I don't know why the ceiling goes black in free camera mode, it's supposed to be a white ceiling.

I wasn't sure if one of the additional images was allowed to be a collage... I used no CC everything is from base game, WA and Ambitions and some free store content like the environmental planter things and such. Large pictures in bedroom and living room are the digital photo frame from ambitions with photos my simmies took :) most stuff is placed with moveobjects and um... I think that's about it! Like I said, still not sure if the last collage image is allowed but I'll leave it there and hope for the best.

The Quick House!

Named after what I had to be to re-build a house after my computer crashed, to reach the headline :)

1BR 1BA, Living room, Kitchen, Patio, BBQ Area/Garden Retreat, Pond, Parking. No CC used.

This beach house was done up after local investors saw the potential in this run down shack. It is aimed for a older couple without children who want to live life in the slow lane.

The property consists of two buildings, one for living and one for sleeping. The small living room area is cosy with a view of the garden and the beach. It has a TV and cable available. Kitchen is fully fitted with all modern appliances and has a back door that leads out to the trashcan.

:alarm: :alarm: :alarm:

If you didn't manage to get your entry in, I'm sorry! Unfortunately we had a limited number of spaces and extended it as much as possible, without over-extending the judges. We will do another contest again soon when this one is done, so you'll have another chance to participate.

You can still post your pics in the Chat Thread (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=412324) if you weren't able to make the deadline!

Contestants: You may still edit your entries!

You have 12 hours to edit your entries (if desired) before the thread is closed for judging. Polish them up pretty, ya'll!

You have 12 hours to edit your entries (if desired) before the thread is closed for judging. Polish them up pretty, ya'll!

Does that mean edit the entry or edit anything (lots included)?

18th Jul 2010, 8:12 PM
Any changes you want, to any part of your entry. If you suddenly realize those windows would look better in white than black, change 'em - and retake your pics. Or if you want to change the text, or whatever, that's up to you. Because there was such a rush, ya'll should have a little time to fix up things that you might've done differently/better/whatever, if you want.

Oh my, I hope I'm not too late!

My entry mixes a little modern with Asian influences.

The Exterior: A modern home from the 1950s, this home features wood siding with contrasting details and lush landscaping.

Floor One: Living room, formal dining, kitchen, laundry, guest bedroom/study and guest bath. Dark woods and bright fabrics blend nicely with Asian touches. The kitchen is retro-reinvented straight from the 50s.

Guest Bath

Floor Two: Master bedroom, child's bedroom and bath. The master bedroom offers and unparalleled view and features an eclectic mix of mid-century and modern design.

Master Bedroom

Child's Room

Pool Area: Large swimming pool, deck and lawn. Enjoy relaxing by the pool or just enjoy the view.

No CC was used, just base, expansions and store items.

Thanks and sorry for such a late entry.

Okay, hope I'm still in time - though Thursday is still out there, I see this contest is going over extremely well! Good luck everyone!
My pics are at: http://s779.photobucket.com/albums/...%201st%20Round/
I haven't got the foggiest notion how to include them in this post, but would appreciate at least a look-see.http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/yy75/gamine55annie/Contest%201st%20Round/street3.jpg
The accompanying text:
Welcome to the Dryad's Haven! Deep in the swamps of Twinbrook, a dryad's tree was struck by lightning. The devastating hit knocked down the top of the great tree and tore out much of the heartwood. The dryad was thrown clear and after recovering in the local hospital, returned to her homesite to find that the tree was still alive! New growth had started! So she built a new home from the fallen wood. Her home has an eat-in kitchen,[IMG]<a href="http://s779.photobucket.com/albums/yy75/gamine55annie/Contest%201st%20Round/?action=view&current=kitchen.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/yy75/gamine55annie/Contest%201st%20Round/kitchen.jpg" border="0" alt="Kitchen"></a> [IMG]living room,[IMG]<a href="http://s779.photobucket.com/albums/yy75/gamine55annie/Contest%201st%20Round/?action=view&current=living2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/yy75/gamine55annie/Contest%201st%20Round/living2.jpg" border="0" alt="Living"></a> [IMG]bedroom [IMG]<a href="http://s779.photobucket.com/albums/yy75/gamine55annie/Contest%201st%20Round/?action=view&current=bedroom.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/yy75/gamine55annie/Contest%201st%20Round/bedroom.jpg" border="0" alt="Bedroom"></a>[IMG]and 2 baths. The mostly hollow tree trunk houses the stairway. There are two decks, one off the living room and a large one at the side, which accesses the parking area, garden and the delightful Heart Pond in back.[IMG]<a href="http://s779.photobucket.com/albums/yy75/gamine55annie/Contest%201st%20Round/?action=view&current=floorplans.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/yy75/gamine55annie/Contest%201st%20Round/th_floorplans.jpg" border="0" alt="Floor Plans" ></a>[IMG]
CC used: log stairs (1), 1x1 and1x2 windows (2 and 3) roof pattern (4) and I think one of the wood patterns (5). Other wood patterns were taken directly from EA/Store items.
There are several extraneous floor tiles in front of the foundation, used decoratively to represent tree roots, and mostly inaccessible through plantings.
This lot will not be uploaded because it lacks: a realistic bark-tile roof, bark groundcover and cfe trickery to make realistic rootworks, a realistic branch to support one of the new offshoots and (since I used the aspens for their lovely newish greenery) an aspen-barkish wood finish for the trunk.
Hope you at least get a kick out of the idea!
Again, good luck everyone - I'm looking forward to seeing your ideas!
