Qualifications to Host:

Participant in w_sims' Foundations for Families contest (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=469141) and finished fourth place in Phaenoh's Sims 2 Scrapbooking contest (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=475093)

Concept:

There are four families moving to Pleasantview. You will redecorate a home for each family, meeting their needs, within their budget. The budget is for the total lot value, the cost of the lot comes out of the budget.

Rules:

Each round, including the application, you will need to post up to 8 pictures of the house. One must be a front view In a corner of the front picture, you must add a small shot of the lot info so we can make sure you are with in the budget. Doesn't have to be the whole info box, just the lot value. No other combined pictures though. And there must also be a top view of each floor. After those are taken care of it's up to you to decided what best showcases your home.

Example of front view with lot info

This is a Sims 2 only contest.
Only free custom content or store content is allowed.
Pictures should be large and clear. Within the MTS Guidelines (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Screenshot_Basics)
Photoshopping is only allowed to sharpen the image, adjust levels (brightness/contrast) or to crop, no other photoshopping.
Walls may not be added or removed.
Doors and windows may be replaced, but not completely removed or moved to a different spot. If you remove a one-tile window, you must put a different one-tile in it's place, etc.
You may add or remove any fencing. Half walls are also permitted.
You may not add or remove foundation or decking. You may swap decking for regular foundation as long as it maintains it's original shape.
You may add a patio, with floor tiles or terrain paint, and paths or walkways. Just no new decks.
Roof structure may not be changed. You may retexture.
No new stairs. Existing stairs may be swapped out, like doors and windows.
You may build an external greenhouse, as long as it uses the actual greenhouse walls from Seasons and is used solely for a garden. No building a greenhouse for extra living space.

Requirements:

Any skill level is welcome. It's a good chance to work on your decorating skills :)
A basic knowledge of taking good in-game photos.
Judges will be expected to have their scores in within 72 hours.

ouse, I've attached it for download :)
Meet the Families
It's up to you which family you want to use for each round. Choose wisely!

The Gardener Family: Rose loves plants. She is happy and easy going. Not too concerned with material things, she's happy as long as she's surrounded with flowers. Budget: 40,000

The Mason Family: Bill and his 10 year old daughter Elise have been on their own for a year now. They still miss Ann, but have decided it's time to move away from all the painful memories. Bill's never been very good at decorating and wants to make sure the house feels like a home. Elise loves purple and butterflies. Budget: 50,000

The Wilson Family: Sarah and Tom, and little Daniel have out-grown their old home. Now that Daniel is a toddler they just need more space than their one bedroom apartment. Sarah loves country decor. They would love to have a nice yard because the entire family enjoys spending time outside. Budget: 60,000

The Jones Family: Steve is a work-a-holic. But all work and no play make Steve a dull guy. So he needs a place where, when he has the time, he can relax and let loose. He likes a simple, yet tasteful look. Budget 40,000

We are full up! Hope we judges can manage all 20 of you ;)

I'm checking in! Let's get some contestants! (and judges!) :D

I figure it's only fair that I "apply" to be a judge ;)

Is there any chance you might be able to extract/package and upload the properties you want contestants to renovate? I for one no longer have many of the original Pleasantview houses as they've either been renovated or bulldozed. Even if they've not been altered (much) they generally have sims living in them already. It would be useful to be able to place the original lots in my imaginatively named Contest Hood (guess what I use it for!) and renovate them there :-)

I thought that might happen, I certainly can and will do shortly :)

What is the situation on the roofs? Can they be modified entirely, or will they be like walls where you can only change the roof texture?

I had thought about that one, but forgot to put it in the rules. Just the texture. If it were real life, it would cost a lot of money to restructure a roof, so I don't think it would be in the budget, lol.

I hope the following isn't a silly question, I'm a complete contest n00b:

Will I be required to provide lists of custom content I use (prices and such) and/or info on where to find the items for download? If yes, is there an example somewhere of how to format/include that list with my application pics?

Thanks in advance :D

No, that's not necessary. It's not an upload, just pictures.

This looks like fun! I'm sure going to make something tonight.

One question: no walls can be added, but are external greenhouses allowed?

As long as it is with the actual greenhouse walls and has nothing but a garden in it (like no using it for the TV room or something, lol).

While I wish we could change the roofs, I'm still gonna give this a go!

So the application round isn't for one of the four families listed and not considered one of the four rounds, right?

Right. No points, just a warm up. Just a generic couple with one child.

Two questions. Do half walls count as adding walls? And is it okay for a chimney to alter the roof?

justJones
3rd Oct 2012, 5:08 PM
We have 2! HugeLunatic has submitted another beautiful entry! Doesn't hurt anything right now, since it's not scored, but you did go over the budget HL. But it is a beautiful house!

And to joandsarah77 I use half walls as fencing a lot, so I'll allow them. And a chimney is fine because while it does technically alter the roof, it doesn't change the shape of it, just adds a hole :)

Um..budget was 35,000. Original cost of house was 14,222, with a budget of 35,000 for the remodel my total house value can be up to 49,222.

I think I've misunderstood how you're using the term "budget". I was thinking the "budget" was the cost of the remodel and not the whole value of the lot, since we are doing a makeover of an existing lot.

Yeah, I'll clarify it in the rules. I meant budget for total lot value. Since these familys are just moving in, their budget is for house and remodel. This is why the application is just for fun, so we can iron out the kinks :)

Yeah, I'll clarify it in the rules. I meant budget for total lot value. Since these familys are just moving in, their budget is for house and remodel. This is why the application is just for fun, so we can iron out the kinks :)

Oh man, I'm still confused now. So if the initial lot value is $14,222 and we're taking the lot value up to $35,000, the budget for renovations is actually $20,778? We're aiming to bring the total lot value up to $35,000?

Sorry I'm a lame brain over here, just want to be absolutely sure. Cheers :-)

You've got it. The total lot value should be 35,000 or less.

For those of who aren't very good at photoshopping can we put up a separate cropped screen shot of the amount interfacing showing? Hope so as here's my entry.

I started my makeover (this is really fun, by the way!) and I thought of a couple of other questions as I went.

1. As long as we keep the original windows/doors in their original places, are we allowed to place additional windows/doors?

2. Terrain height changing is not allowed, but what about terrain paints? Is terrain painting cool?

Muchos gracias :D

Glad you like it :) And no you can not add doors or windows, you can only swap out whats there. And yes terrain paint is fine.

Yes, and welcome to the contest! What a fun and colorful home :D Very nice. As for the door, if this was for a score you would have been docked, but as the application is just for practice, it's no big deal :D

Only need 7 more contestants! Still need judges too!

Here's my application. I literally just started using FRAPS and GunMod's hack about an hour ago, so I hope I did everything correctly (those tools are unbelievably awesome btw!).

I think the clarity went down a little because I resized the pics (they looked giant but maybe I was wrong, I dunno). I hope the lot value thingy is clear enough, if not I can crop a clearer version.

Also, I just wanted to ask if we'll be penalized if we don't use ceiling tiles? I don't have AL, I've got the downloadable versions but I'm still learning how to use those things. Just wanted to ask :-)

And away we go....

Welcome to the contest GlorianaGlowbee! It's not a big deal, but do you know how to use cameraman mode? Look in Camera Controls (http://modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3978340&postcount=36) It allows you take take picture with out the user interface and pause border. It just makes for better pics :D Also I love your Yoshi blanket

Thanks for the link info. I'll definitely be playing around with the camera stuff between now and the first round, hopefully they will be looking quite spiffy soon.

And just asking again about the ceiling tile thing? Will they be mandatory or just considered a style bonus? Danke schoen!

I'd love to take part in this as a contestant, but it's taking longer and longer (hours!) and many restarts to convince my computer that the correct disc is in the drive :wtf:

SO...I'd like to be a judge instead. I know exactly which room and which house for the pics...but it's currently half 3 in the morning here (I intended to only have a quick look on MTS - always the way) so um, I'll search through the folders for the pics I'm certain I already have of them once I wake back up lol

I was going to ask a question, but can't think what it was now... :faceslap:

This seems like a great contest. I love seeing people redecorate the horrible houses EA makes. It reminds me of the old contest at MATY where contestants tried to fix the worst EA houses. Everybody so far has done an amazing job.

I would like to apply to be a judge. For qualifications, I was a contestant in the Build to Plan house building contest on this site and in the Scrapbooking contest also on this site. Also, I like to build houses.

Here are couple exterior and interior shots of houses I’ve built:
http://i50.tinypic.com/118gcuv.jpg
http://i47.tinypic.com/29z31o2.jpg

And since I misunderstood and thought that I had to redecorate the 1st house to be a judge here is my unfinished attempt at redecorating this house:

The exterior is actually Morley and Bithiah's semi-treehouse that they were living in during the scrapbook contest...and the interior is from a church that I renovated for the Goths.

I'm applying for this contest. :)

I swapped out doors and windows, but the original number, size, and placement are intact. I also added a fireplace, as we were told that chimneys were OK.

I hope the size is acceptable -- my screenshot program won't take them any larger, and I had to crop them just a tiny bit to get rid of the red "pause" lines.

Are you on a Mac or a PC? If you're on a Mac, hold down Command-Shift-3 all at the same time, and a picture will be on your desktop when you quit the game. If you're on a PC, you can press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard, but then you have to paste it somewhere. (Hitting "Print Screen" is like saying "Copy.")

There are also screenshot programs out there, but someone else will have to give you info on those...

Good luck!

You could use a program like Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/). It's a very simple image viewer that has a lot of neat functions - including screen capture. Somewhere in the thread someone has mentioned FRAPS, which also captures screens.

But you mentioned you have Windows 7... So I found this, it seems W7 has something that helps you doing that: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/products/features/snipping-tool

Do we have to stick to the traditional suburban style of Pleasantview? For example, if we changed the theme of Pleasantview to - say - a tropical neighbourhood, and all of the houses we entered for the contest in each the rounds stuck to that theme, would that be allowed?

I use FRAPS, It's free and the shots go straight into their own folder so easy to find. The free version only takes bmps though and MTS needs them changed to jpegs. I do that in GIMP (also free) It would be a shame not to enter after you have all ready.

What happened when you used print screen?

Go ahead and post your application without it. You can keep playing around and see if you can figure it out. If you can't you can still enter, we'll just have to take your word. If you don't have the pic and we think you may have gone over budget (like if you have a big fancy pool, a flat screen in every room and 6 cars, lol) you may be docked points on the budget section, but hopefully you can figure out how to get the pic :D

And w_sims, you can do it in whatever style you want, assuming it doesn't conflict with the family (first round and on).

You wont get docked for the pause lines, if they are just in that one pic, since it's giving you so much trouble. It doesn't matter what order they are in, you can post up to 8.

You need to choose just 8 pics, the one with the lot value and the one from the top where you can see the rooms are the required ones, other than that it's up to you. The 4th, 5th, 9th and 10th ones aren't really needed or don't show it as nicely, so I would suggest removing those. Plus you need to put them in-line as well. Click to edit your post, and then click the attachments tab, click the link for each screenshot individually to open in a new tab, copy the address, and then back at your message, there is a little button at the top with a "photo" on it, click it and it will ask you for the link, paste the address from your pic here and then it will show up in your post :D Hope that was fairly well explained, lol. That's better, but try to get them in-line :) Also, instead of posting several new posts in row (or "double-posting" which is a forum no no) just keep editing your last post, unless someone has commented after you, in which case a new post is fine. Also your pics are really small, do you think you could get them bigger?

I figure it's only fair that I "apply" to be a judge ;)

I downloaded this beautiful house and I could not be happier! Great house!

Thank you very much :D And no it will be a different house for each round, I'll announce it at the beginning of each round, and then you have to choose which of the families you think the home will work best for. And yes you get to compete

Also  for the link in your siggy :D

Thanks a bunch, Selly! I plan on eventually doing 2 more cycles with the other two basegame hoods, too. Maybe by then you'll be back in contest mode, lol.

Will it be alright to crop the red pause border out? No other photo editing, just cropping.

I've searched FRAPS and GunMod's hack, and as far as I can tell there's no way to get the red borders off with just those. I found another additional hack/mod for removing the red pause border, but I'm really not sure if I want to put it in at this point. I'm a little hack-shy, haha.

Contest is in my sig and I'm rearing to go for round one! :)

You can crop all you want. If you use cameraman mode, there shouldn't be pause lines, but cropping is fine too :) And thank for adding the link in your siggy! I'm excited to get going too, still need 4 more contestants by Saturday! I think we can do it! Especially with everyone adding it to their signatures ;)

No you do not have to have an individual pic of each room. That's why the top down pic is required, that way we can at least see the basics of every room in one shot. Just pic whichever rooms you think showcase the house best :) Just no more than 8 pics.

jones are we meant to use the insert image button? I was looking at your post to Lucia940, and I see that in your instructions. As I said in a previous post I'm not very photoshop savvy, I only know how to resize and change to jpgs because of the MTS tutorial I used when I first uploaded a lot here. I resize mine as close to 250kb as possible in Gimp, upload them to photobucket then paste the img line into my post. Is the other way better or is just a matter of preference?

I don't know about anyone else, but I think Veronaville would be a great place to hold the next contest. They have homes that are not like any of the others in the other towns. I have hardly :) played with Veronaville but I think it would be a nice challenge and of course probably a sticky wicket! lol

It looks like I'm double or triple posting and I don't want to get in trouble, so could someone delete the extra posts please? They were in answer to other posts but I didn;t know you had to do your answers in one post. I thought you could answer those addressing you. I tried to delete them but can't, so if a mod would be so kind, I would appreciate it.

For "Jones" I Face Booked and Tweeted the contest.

What you did is fine. I was just trying to make it the simplest explanation possible, as she had already figured out how to attach them. Was just giving instructions for making attachments in-line as well :) That way is sometimes better, because if they are as attachments as well, they will always be here. But the way you did it is fine.

Glad to see the applications filling up - nearly there now :D

I want to get my game running and have a lil play along myself hehe... I've now realised that I actually know this property very well - the first sim I made was my self-sim and when she moved in with her husband, this was their first house!! The first 3 kids were born there! The original version of this in my game is therefore very much changed, I'd added a bit of an upstairs to it! The Burbs are living here in my Uberhood version...

Could I maybe suggest that Lucia, and anyone else entering who is new to contests or taking photos in game, spend a little time before the first round just playing around with the the cameraman mode (tab key) to get more confident and comfortable with it :)
Jones included a link in the first post that will help with the camera controls: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Screenshot_Basics
And there's a couple of helpful pointers in this tutorial: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=337362
Don't forget to have the walls up when taking pics too!

I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with for this, have fun with it! :)

I'm taking up to 15 contestants, we just need 10 to keep going. So there are still 6 spots left :) I just only put the first 10 in the table since that was the minimum. If I get an over whelming response by Saturday, might even consider up to 20...

A build competition? I can't pass those up! Ok, so it's not actually building, cuz we can't change any structure, but I love the budget twist you've thrown in instead. LOVE doing budget houses! lipe2k, wcif the tablecloth and your patio set?

The tablecloth was made by Nengi65, who closed his/her blog. But I found an archive with his/her stuff in here, with some recolors as well: http://untidyfan.livejournal.com/9655.html There are more recolors in here: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=379605 . I've aleady looked for more recolors, but unfortunately I couldn't find any...

The patio set was designed by Honeywell, here at MTS and it's reeeeeeally good :) http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=470191

I just put on a ton of Nengi65 stuff yesterday. After seeing your table clothes I realized I didn't have any and suddenly needed some! So I went and Googled table clothes and it's the same set.

The low sideboard is part of this add on set. http://www.blackpearlsims.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=5917

Hello contest buddies!!

First of all, jones this is a great contest concept. Secondly, I'm glad that I enter. If it wasn't for that guy who posted about the contest in the "News" section, I would have missed it. I rarely visit the contest forums.

The application house is done, and I'm in budget. I haven't used any CC this time, but I'm going to consider about using. It seems I'm the only one who used that silly empty squares at the middle of the house, for something that is not a fireplace.

We've got some serious applicants...

All entries are looking great! This is going to be a tough competition, which is very good =D I'm loving to see how many different results we can get from the same lot! This is different from the Foundations for Families contest, because we can't make structural changes and the placement of walls, windows and doors must remain unchanged so that's what I'm noticing the most.

Oh, thanks, Phae :D

I managed to find everything :)
The orange polka dot bedding - mesh is propably one of these: http://sims2artists.com/index.php?topic=1106.0
or these: http://www.blackpearlsims.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=681 [all are slaved to Jonesi's bed blanket]
They are very similliar, so it's hard to tell which one exactly it is.
Reclor: http://www.blackpearlsims.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=4412
The blanket - http://an-nas.livejournal.com/22814.html#cutid1
Pillows - bed pillows? I think they are from here: http://sims2artists.com/index.php?topic=1939.0 [also slaved to Jonesi's bed blanket]
Curtains - http://sims2artists.com/index.php?topic=1124.0 [slaved to holy simoly's curtains]
Outdoor bench - https://sites.google.com/site/shoukeir/objects4
Dining set - http://buggybooz.blogspot.com/2010/01/emma-dining.html

@up: in fact I took part in similiar competition on another forum and that's why I decided to particpiate in this one :) I really like renovating sims' houses :D Even more than building from scratch, which is very time-consuming.

Glad, I'm not the only one, lol.

Welcome, MAB-2000!

All contestants I have a question for you (that's a switch, lol). I have gotten contest feedback two different ways in the past, in a PM and as a "spoiler" with the scores post. I don't mind either way, but if any of you would rather keep the feedback private let me know. Otherwise, I'll do it as a spoiler.

Alright, I've decided to give this a try. I'm not the best at decorating, but I hope to improve! So that's why I'm entering. I downloaded the house and put it in my CaVoi Canyon because I have Pleasantview on a flash drive with the other maxis hoods. I was going to spend more time on this little application house, but I decided to go ahead and post it because Thursdays and Fridays are ruthless to me and free time. So, erm, yeah here goes. I'll download fraps for the actual contest thingy. My picture taking is kinda shoddy, and I don't have photoshop to crop so I used paint.

There is so much pretty CC that I've never seen before in some of these houses too!
Lucia940, wcif the black sofa in your living room?

I believe it came from 4 Ever Simfantasy (http://www.4eversimfantasy.net/) I only download free content and my daughter-in-law makes a lot of my items. So, if you can't find it at the link I gave, it more than likely is one of my daughter-in-law's pieces.

*crosses fingers* Hopefully there's enough room for a Sims 2 newbie like me! :3
Here's my house! I know it's just for the application, but I've named the house, 'Quinquaginta inferias umbrae Puteulanus'.

Which is totally butchered Latin for '50 Shades of Blue' :jest:

Anyways, here's the house!

Do you mean critique of the rooms we submit?

This is only the second contest of this type that I've joined, the other being on Boolprop not here. I really liked what was done there. Each judge took the time to write up what they liked and didn't like -in a helpful way about each person’s entry and the whole thing was put up as a thread. Not sure if anyone minded seeing each person’s critique, but I found it quite helpful for the most part. Even though the judges did collaborate together it was kind of obvious after awhile that certain judges liked particular things. One judge liked clutter and another didn't! So if this is what you mean to be put under a spoiler I certainly don't mind.

So much beautiful color and creativity! Love some of that CC in the lots. I reallllyyy need a tutorial on color schemes. I like how different everyone's style is with the same exact house. :D

As for the critique, It would probably be best here because I have a habit of NOT looking at the PM/Message box thing in the corner, but either way is fine. :D

kpkeila, the flat screen is ShanOw's (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=314237&c=0&ht=0&page=2&pp=25).
lipe2k, the kid's bedding is HL's (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=312445) and I can not, for the life of me, figure out where the master bedding is from. Poorly labeled package names don't turn up in searches. :(

@Phaenoh, I know for sure the master bedroom end-tables come from the "IKEA inspired bedroom" at BPS, next time I load up my game I'll happily check on the other items for ya. And on a fangirl note, I feel honored to be in a contest with you because I use so much of your stuff so often! (You can see I love your white trim roof defaults). I've looked twice now (even registered) and I still can't find it. Usually I'd give up at this point, but we have those in our actual bedroom so I totally need the sim version. And I'm just glad you like my work! :)

hogwartsjedi, wcif the kids room wall scribbles?
trin250, wcif your couches and that sweet bathroom sink?

jones, I'm sorry that I'm derailing your contest thread with all these wcifs; I don't lurk on any other sims sites than MTS. I'll knock it off if it bothers you. That depends on the nature of the feedback. If it's "Dear Lord, what made you think that was a good idea?! You stink!" then I'd prefer it in a PM. If it's "The rooms are nice, but the huge swaths of sky are really distracting -- have you considered ceiling tiles?" then I'm okay with having it in a spoiler for other nosy people like me to see. :p I sometimes learn from other people's feedback too.

I know! I was the first to post asking a question and the 17th contestant, shocking! :-D Anyway, I'm really looking forward to participating in this contest and I'm loving seeing everyone's entries. I have a feeling that this contest will drastically increase the size of my downloads folder - not because I need to download more stuff to participate but because everyone's using such nice stuff and making me want it! :-) It was much harder than I expected to stick to the budget - normally my sims have really cheap houses so I thought it'd be easy but it's tricky if you actually want the home to look nice....

It is difficult to stick to a budget, but fun to try and see how well you can do! One thing I like a lot about 3, is the interior design profession :) Same principal, redecorate on a budget.

*RANDOMNESS EDIT* I just clicked over to the countdown clock, and it was 2 days 15 hours, EXACTLY! No minutes or seconds...weird. Bet I couldn't do that again if I tried, lol.

*NOT SO RANDOM EDIT* I've been rethinking the roof thing...I think maybe I will allow it, but if you choose to modify the roof (other than texture) you must knock 500 out of your budget. Still cheap for roof work ;) Just because IRL, you couldn't just slap a new roof on for free. Opinions?

I don't mind it, but it makes me wonder;
Would going from a sloped to flat roof be allowed and if so, if it costs less than 500 do you still count it as 500 out of your budget? :call: 411

justJones

Good question! If you are removing a "traditional roof" and replacing it with a flat one, you would not have to adjust the budget, as you the floor tiles would cost you.

Good question! If you are removing a "traditional roof" and replacing it with a flat one, you would not have to adjust the budget, as you the floor tiles would cost you. So demo is free? I think I liked it better with either not editing the roof at all, or $500 minimum. If we change how the gables look that will cost us in paint at least, and then that starts getting into your 'no changing the structure' rule. Though, a lot of maxis roofs really are terrible.

HugeLunatic
11th Oct 2012, 3:54 PM
I think the rule regarding the roof should stay. As it falls in line with no changing any other structural item (walls/foundation).

justJones

Ok, we'll stick with not changing the roof other than texture.

RowenaLupin
11th Oct 2012, 4:53 PM
I'm used to making really plain houses and filling them up over time. Maybe instead of changing the actual roof we could use the angle tool to either take it up or down a notch? Some of the Maxis houses have roofs that are extremely high, and they make no sense to me.

I put my Pleasantview back in last night, and decided to use the house I decorated for the Brokes. I always hated their trailer.

Lucia940
11th Oct 2012, 6:35 PM
I think we should go forward with the rules as they were first laid out. No changing anything that was not allowed in the beginning. Just my opinion, but I think it will cut down on confusion, at least with me.

Welcome, karen laorraine! If you could put your pics in-line as well that would be great :) Stairs....wasn't addressed, so fine for your application, but for future rounds I'm ruling: no added stairs. Existing stairs may be swapped out like the doors and windows, but no new ones. But very creative thinking since I hadn't ruled either way ;)

Official Roof Decision Keeping it the way it was originally. No structural changes, just texture.

thanx but how to post the images here

At the very top of page 4 on this thread, you will find a great tut that Jones wrote to help me. Click on page 4 and try and see if that helps you. It did help me and I'm so new at this the paint's still wet! lol

Edit: jones7659, I was posting this at the same time you were. lol I am so glad you added all the links to help them out. They sure helped me. :gjob: I can't thank you enough.

You did a fantastic job! I understand Paint Shop Pro and Blade Pro and so on, but not how to do Sims 2 pictures and MTS threads and pics and so on. Your tut really helped me and I hope it helps everyone else too! I am certain it will as it is user friendly and so easy to understand.

Thanks :) Felt a bit cheeky but there was no mention of stairs not being allowed :)

The glass stairs are EAmaxis ones. The wall stickers are by Jope http://www.simplystyling.de/homesims2.html

I'm also cool with feedback being public, and I'm glad the roof rule stays in place. Makes it more challenging! :)

@Phaenoh

I could have sworn I got the IKEA stuff at BPS, but when I checked it out I found that I goofed. I got it here:

http://ohbehave007.blogspot.com/2012/05/ikea-inspired-bedroom.html

The corner table came from MTS2, there's also a cabinet version that's awesome too. Both links:

http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=78916

http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=78920

The clock is proving harder to locate. It's definitely made by Cassandre at BPS, her name is on it but that's all the info I've got from the file/tooltips. I had a look through all the sets and recolors under her name at BPS but couldn't locate the darn thing. I'll keep an eye out, I'd like to know where it came from because it's torturing me now, haha.

EDIT: Dude, I totally forgot to check my collection folders in game. I think it might be in one, which would get me closer. Next time I go into my game I'm totally going Sherlock Holmes on this clock.

Wow 20 contestants! Awesome turn out. There are a lot of great houses here—this will be a fun group to judge.

So, jones, just to clarify, contestants can add walkways, as long as they don’t change the patio shape, correct?

I'm a little concerned because the judges for this contest were all contestants in my last contest! Please don't hate on me! :P
Lol, Phaenoh. Now that you’ve said this, I kind of want to give you your points in the form of a scrapbook page. ;) (Of course you have nothing to worry about.)

The tablecloth was made by Nengi65, who closed his/her blog. But I found an archive with his/her stuff in here, with some recolors as well: http://untidyfan.livejournal.com/9655.html There are more recolors in here: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=379605 . I've aleady looked for more recolors, but unfortunately I couldn't find any
It’s funny, I was just looking for Nengi’s stuff the other day and realized that she’s (or he's) no long active.

72 hours for judging is long enough for me too. I’m glad we’re going to have the extra time though. 20 contestant is a lot.

MAB, stairs must stay in the same position, like doors and windows, but may be swapped out for a different style.

So sorry, LadyGreenEyes, when I closed the application round I took out the line about maximum contestants, because I had closed it up. You must have been looking as I was editing things because I also changed the countdown to the end of this round.

godspeed, I'm not sure what you are asking. Do you mean who wins? We still have four rounds that will be judged (the application was just for practice) and the scores will be posted a few days after the end of each round. If you are asking which house to do for round 1, I updated the first post with that info and a download of that house. And you just choose one of the four families to decorate the house for.

Well, when I posted, AFTER the entry, the deadline was still open, according to the post, and there wasn't anything about maximum people. Guess I am not in the right clique.....

There has been a maximum limit of 20 participants for several days, it started as 15 and actually got increased. You were the 21st person to post an application, you missed out this time, it's unfortunate and we're sorry - but no rules have been broken on the host's part. It has nothing to do with 'cliques' or anything like that. You missed out, it sucks, but the limit WAS there. And if you read back through the thread you will probably find mention of the 15 then 20 participant limit in some of Jones's posts.
The deadline was only cut short by a day because the participant limit was reached and therefore not much point waiting another day.

LadyGreenEyes this post was 9 up from your entry. It clearly states that all spots had been filled. Sorry you feel it was unfair, but I believe it was pretty clear. The deadline was 20 contestants OR Saturday night if 20 was not reached first.

When I read the initial post, after 2AM this morning, it stated a deadline of midnight (minute before, technically) tonight, and the only mention of numbers of people was that at least ten were hoped for. That post was still there after I added mine. It changed later, after I read through the rest of the posts. I didn't look at all of the comments before posting mine; didn't figure I would have to, since the rules seemed clear in the initial one. I would not have posted had the first post stated it was already closed. But whatever. I just spent all night decorating a house for nothing, lost sleep, no big deal. Damn right it sucks, in more ways than one. Doesn't matter, though. I won't bother again.

The rules were clear enough, yes? So that's why you changed the walls of the property?

We don't want to fight with you, but in all honesty, if you were able to miss the important rule of not changing the walls, then perhaps you missed the bit about 20 participants?

I thought you all might like a post with feedback on your applications. No score, just feedback :) I'm not requiring it of the other judges, but if you'd like to do so, feel free to PM me some. Obviously if you don't they'll know it's from me, unlike in the other rounds where we'll just be numbers :p Although my over abundant use of smileys may give me away anyway, lol.

Also, if everyone could take the "join now" part out of their siggys that would be great. You can leave a link like I did if you want to say something like "view my entry" and link it to your application.

Good Morning to all my lovely new friends!

So, we have a new house and the first round has begun!!! So exciting!!! I would like to wish all of you a lovely time in the decorating and less frustrating time in keeping in budget. I have re-done this house about 70 times in the year I have been playing and to be honest, I have no clue as to what to do. lol May your home and family bring you happiness. My first simmie in this house was my very first sim ever, Her name was Wynter Angelis. Strange to be placing in someone different. I look forward to having a blast with all of you!!! Thanks a bunch for posting the pics for Phae, HL! And yes you can do anything you want with fences. You can completely remove them if you like. Taking down a fence or adding one isn't really a structural change ;) I think of fences as more of a decorative thing (often with a practical purpose I know, lol)

I hope to see some lovely remakes of this house, as I despise this little "set" of houses! lol! I think they are odd and don't really fit in Pleasantview, style-wise. Why would there be a group of modern, "beach house-ish, but not really, I don't know what the heck they are" houses in this little suburban feeling hood? I just have to really shake my head at EAxis for these ones ;)

I think I tried to use this property for one of my first sim families too...but gave up and moved them back out ;) didn't work or suit them ultimately!
What REALLY bugs me about this one is that long corridor upstairs...there's no purpose to it and the tiles would've been better included in the room on the right...

I have a quick question about the "choose your family wisely." Will the houses that we're given have a minimum of 2 rooms, or will we be getting some 1 bedroom houses? If you can't answer that's fine, it's just that I'm still trying to decide who I want to live in 30 (can't remember the name of the street lol).

Thanks :)

I'm already working on my entry :giggler: I really love those lots from Pleasantview. I've remade all of them in my custom neighborhood, added new floors and lots of things that would be against the rules here, and they are looking really good nowadays.

Can I make a silly question? This came to me as I started working on this lot: can we move or remove the original trees from the lot? I got a feeling that that palm tree, in that place, won't look good in my main picture :heyhey:

justJones

This is my favorite part of the whole house: a nice place for Rose to tend to her flowers and read something during a break from her work.

Living room with dining area back there. You can easily notice I was in a colourful mood :)

The kitchen and the stairs. The EAxian who placed those right there must have had some sort of stairs-trauma as a child!

Rose makes a living by doing flower arrangements, so this is her office, with a strategically placed snapdragon flower.

Just type [ spoiler ] without the blank spaces before the pictures and close it with [ /spoiler ] after the pictures, without the spaces too :D

Thank you lipe2k so much for the information! I will try it. :-) Also, you have some fantastic CC! Just beautiful!!

I have an idea that won't change the contest too much or even at all, but I was thinking..... Do you think it may be easier for the judges to judge each entry if we take a photo of the house as it is before we do anything and then post our photo's? The reason I am wondering this is that they would have a clear view of the way the integrity of the house is and will not have to leave the house they are judging to check. I thought this may be easier for them. Just a thought. :call:

Edit: This was only an idea to make things easier. I'm glad it wasn't needed. I am just trying I suppose to be helpful. I have decorated this house we are doing in round 1 several times, but it was when I first began the game. I am waiting for my muse to kick me in the shins and send me reeling in pain to Pleasantview so I can get it done.... again.

I think I tried to use this property for one of my first sim families too...but gave up and moved them back out ;) didn't work or suit them ultimately!
What REALLY bugs me about this one is that long corridor upstairs...there's no purpose to it and the tiles would've been better included in the room on the right...

I remember my first family in that place. That lovely long one tile corridor-'The corridor of foot stomping' Which is why I've always moved the stairs or walls!

Also good morning to you to Lucia-well it's morning over here anyway and I see pictures have been put up while I was asleep. I can see I will have to get my roller skates on.

For me personally, not needed - I'm going to fight with my disc drive shortly to get the game loaded so I can have a lil play along with this - I'll take a pic of the before for my own reference :)

A couple of silly questions.

One is in my post above about swapping to spiral stairs.

Second is the Jones Family just a single male?

Alright, here's mine. I chose the Gardener Family.

The Gardener Family: Rose loves plants. She is happy and easy going. Not too concerned with material things, she's happy as long as she's surrounded with flowers. Budget: 40,000

Note: yes, I do have the inaccessible beds mod. Its all under the spoiler because I'm still learning how to size everything properly.

FYI: The 2 tile windows were replaced with another 2 tile window just in case anyone gets confused the one with the shutters are 2 tiles even though it doesn't look like it.

My favorite part is the backyard. I'm not the best at landscaping, and I'm not an outdoorsy person, but if I had this background I'd sleep there!

That very narrow hallway is annoying, and the steps are in the worst place imaginable. It was certainly challenging getting everything to fit in there properly. I play tested the house just now, and they can get to everything. I decided not to give her a radio/computer/tv since its materialistic like. Where the logs and mini fireplace is I had a piano, but it cost too much, and I needed the extra 3k for the back of the house to look nice. :D

RowenaLupin, you don't have the two top down "floor plan" pics. But a lovely entry.

joandsarah, yes, it's just Steve ;) And I say no to the spirals. It's a different footprint, so a bit more major than a simple swap.

Lucia, nice of you to suggest, but I don't think it's necessary either :)

Also would like to let everyone know, you are allowed to edit your entries clear up until the deadline :)

The rules were clear enough, yes? So that's why you changed the walls of the property?

We don't want to fight with you, but in all honesty, if you were able to miss the important rule of not changing the walls, then perhaps you missed the bit about 20 participants?

I didn't change any of the walls, and added only a half-wall in the bathroom, which it was stated was allowed. The rest is like it came. Not looking to fight, either, just irritated that the post was still showing a deadline for tonight after I posted. I did note that it was stated the deadline would be changed, since an arbitrary number of people had posted (after posting and reading through the pages). In any case, I had time for this one, and not sure if I will later or not. Any idea of a schedule for the rest?

I'm not sure. This one will take a month. So not till at least then. And with the holidays after that, probably won't do the next one till the beginning of next year.

Looking at your profile, you have Sims 3 too? A Sims 3 interior design contest went up yesterday, perhaps you could try that one?

The rest is like it came. When I read Croutonian's comment, I went into the game to look at the original footprint. You've extended the front of the house, something which was clearly not allowed. Perhaps you changed the house before you saw the contest and forgot that you changed it?

If you're not convinced, take another look at the first post in this thread. Compare the front of your house with the original front of the house.

In any case, I had time for this one, and not sure if I will later or not. Any idea of a schedule for the rest?I wonder whether you misunderstand how this works. Once you are accepted for a contest, you have to submit an entry for every single house in the thread. Since you are out of the contest, you can't submit entries for any of the other houses.

I told her earlier that I was planning on 2 more cycles, for Strangetown and Veronaville. I think that's what she meant.

*EDIT* Man that's twice now! Sorry for the double post! I'm a terrible example as a host! :faceslap:

I did the Gardener in hopes of getting my favorite colors of brown and green out of my system! I have this habit of using brown and green a little extensively, and that's why I entered this contest is to improve and expand my colors. :D

Don’t worry Lucia, at the very least, I’m planning to download all the houses and looked at them in game, so I know what you guys are working with. I’ll probably also do a quick redecoration, so I can better understand the challenges of the house.

I thought you all might like a post with feedback on your applications. No score, just feedback I'm not requiring it of the other judges, but if you'd like to do so, feel free to PM me some.

Sounds like a good idea. I’ll start going over the entries. (So, I guess you guys won’t be able to tell who the comments are from :))

My entry is for the Jones family of the single workaholic male. I kind of ran out of cash which is why there are a couple of slightly bare areas. Opposite to a PP I went for darker colours of grey and black to try and get out of my comfort zone of bright colours.
Apart from the red...

Well, it has now :) I mean... Does the previous one (http://imageshack.us/a/img855/5738/lipe2kpmr101.jpg) work as a front-view? It's kind of half-front, half-side in my opinion, that's why I changed.

The spoiler doesn't seem to be working.

I also have a question. Since this is a Pleasantview makeover, are you only pulling houses from Pleasantview, or are you also considering basegame lots that started in the bin? And are you considering houses that start with current residents? Like the Caliente's house or the Dreamers? I not sure I like the idea of evicting someone for a challenge ;)

joandsarah77, I love your version of 30 lakeside drive. Could you please upload it somewhere? I have a couple sims in pleasantview in need of a bachelor pad, and this house is perfect. :)

PS: Good luck with the challenge!
