Hello,

I am a computer science student and I stumbled upon a really cool article (http://www.qrg.northwestern.edu/papers/Files/Programming_Objects_in_The_Sims.pdf) about the engine that the original sims used. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a copy of Edith so I can poke around inside the sims. Its not really important, I am just really curious about how the game is built.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, Edith was never made available outside of Maxis and a few select universities who were affilliated at the time. You'd have a very, very hard time finding a copy these days.

That said, there are still some other TS1 modding tools which are still around, if you're actually looking to create new content?

Not so much looking to create content, just general curiosity. I have been playing the sims games for years and now that I have been developing software I would like to "look under the hood" and see how it actually works.

Thanks anyways!

Edith was leaked as a DLL in the final version of EA-Land (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims_Online) and was just cracked last month: http://www.reddit.com/r/thesimscc/comments/15axbm/edith/

Here's the full announcement: http://niotso.org/2012/12/23/edith-cracked/

With that said, this version of Edith will only work with EA-Land, and we're not sure if SimAntics has changed at all between TS1 and TSO/EAL. So even if you're able to obtain a copy, the objects you produce with it may or may not work with TS1.
