View Full Version : TS4 Walls, Floors, and Terrain Paints

These are the rubrics that MTS staff use in evaluating uploads of walls, floors, and terrain paints for TS4. The corresponding guidelines may be found here: MTS Creator Guidelines: Sims 4 Walls and Floors (http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Sims_4_Walls_and_Floors)

The title above the post text controls the rubric's category, a number indicating its display order in the list, and its title, with no spaces between the word and the dividing | character: Category|Display Order|Title

Titles that begin with ** are rubric items that will not apply to every upload (a neighbourhood deco item does not need to be recolorable for example) and thus can be set to N/A by the moderator when evaluating an upload. Links below the title are provided to the creator along with the rubric reasons and are links to the appropriate section of the guidelines, relevant tutorials, etc.

In the post text, the numbers at the beginning of a line indicate the star rating for a particular rubric item, with a possible 1 to 5. Exactly how these numbers are used will vary based on the type of rubric item... Is it a "was it done right? yes or no?" type evaluation which would have only 1 or 5 as options? Or a matter of quality that will be more of a sliding scale including 1, 2, 3, 4, 5? Or something else?

For certain items, 1 and 2 stars and 4 and 5 stars ("bad" or "good") may be equal, with 1 and 2 being equally "bad" and 4 and 5 being equally "good". See Screenshots: Lighting (http://www.modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=4273693&postcount=6) for an example - having pictures that are too bright (2) or too dark (1) are equally problematic in terms of seeing the item (too dark is not "worse" than too bright even though it has less stars), but they are given separate items so that moderators evaluating the item can be clear about what is wrong and how to fix it.

A dividing | character can be given at the end of any one of the 1-5 star items to give a link that is relevant to that item.

1:The texture is very blurry or crunchy. This may be due to enlarging a source image or the texture file may have been overcompressed at some point.

2: Some elements of the texture are blurry or crunchy. This may be due to enlarging a source image or the texture file may have been overcompressed at some point.

3:The texture is a little blurry or crunchy in a few places. This may be due to enlarging a source image or the texture file may have been overcompressed at some point.

5:Your texture is clear and crisp. Great!

1:The texture(s) uses flat colours or patterns, with no shading to give the impression of a surface (such as wood, stone, etc), or of shadows beneath crowns etc.

2:Your texture(s) has some shading and texture, however some parts are still too flat, and need some more work to give the impression of a surface (such as wood, stone, etc), or of shadows beneath crowns etc.

3:The textures look realistic.

4:Your texture(s) have good shading and details, and look realistic and 3D.

5:Your texture(s) are exceedingly well-drawn - they look realistic, and have fantastic detail and shading!

1:The texture(s) use exceedingly bright or oversaturated colours, which look unrealistic and cannot be used over large areas.
1:The colours of the textures are very dark, and this obscures the detail of the texture.

2:The texture(s) use some colours which are too bright or saturated. Turn the saturation down, and bear in mind that it should be possible to use the texture over a large area without the colours dominating the entire room (or garden).

3:The colours you have chosen are not unrealistic, and your creation looks good over a large area. However, the colours are still quite bright or saturated, and they may drown out the details of your texture.

4:The colours you have chosen are realistic, and look good over a large area. They allow the details of your texture to come through without being drowned out by bright colours.

5:The colours you've chosen work well together, and create an attractive and cohesive palette. Thank you

1:The textures use pure black or pure white. The Sims 4 does not render pure black or white properly, making them look like glitches - either a "black hole effect", or a very bright, blinding white. Use very dark grey for black, and very light grey for white.|Making Black and White Textures (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=266235)

5:You have not used pure black or white on your textures.

1: The wall/floor/terrain paint is not suited to the Sims 4 game. Walls, floors, and terrains should be something useable in-game, and something that your sims might want to decorate their house with. Random patterns and pictures are generally not suitable for walls, floors, and terrain.

4: These will be useful for players with a specific game style. Thank you.

5: These will be useful to many players. Thank you.

1:The texture is very out of scale. It is either far too big, or far too small, to be realistic. Consider how big certain elements, such as the pattern or a tile, would be in comparison to a person in the real world, and then make sure they're the same size in comparison to a sim in game.

2:The texture is not hugely off-scale, but it is still slightly too big or small to be realistic. Try tweaking the scale a little: consider how big certain elements, such as the pattern or a tile, would be in comparison to a person in the real world, and then make sure they're the same size in comparison to a sim in game.

5:The scale of your texture is realistic and looks good. Thank you.

1:This upload would be much more suited as a painting, decal or rug rather than as a wall or floor.

5:Any pictures or paintings used in your creation(s) work well in the context, and look like a real mural/mosaic/other wall or floor art. Great!

1:The wall texture is very badly distorted: it is either stretched or squished, depending on how you look at it. Remember that the game squishes wall textures horizontally, so you may need to stretch parts of your texture in order to have them look right in-game.
1:While the wallpaper looks great on the short wall level, it is stretched to cover the medium and long wall heights. Remember, the wallpaper should be seamless across all 3 wall heights and should not stretch to cover the taller heights.

2:Most of the wall texture is not distorted, however some elements which are obviously supposed to be square or circular have come out rectangular or ovular. Remember that the game squishes wall textures horizontally, so you may need to stretch parts of your texture in order to have them look right in-game.

5:Your texture has no distortion and looks great on all height levels. Fantastic!

1:The file is the wrong file type; you may have uploaded a sims2pack file, which is extra work for you to make and for downloaders to install; or you may have uploaded .bmp or other texture files, which will not work in anyone's game.|How to Make Walls, Floors and Ground Cover (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=1175718#post1175718) Please upload walls/floors/Terrain paints as .package files.

You can edit your post so that your creation only requires base game so that it will be visible to more downloaders but do ensure you mention in the post which EP/SP is required for the matching EA/Maxis floor/wall/terrain paint.

1:The screenshots do not show your creation(s) across enough tiles, panels or heights. Please show multiple tiles so we can see how well your texture(s) repeat and tile. As a rule of thumb, your screenshots should include every wall spread over at least three continuous tiles, and every floor over at least a 2x2 area. All three wall heights should include every wall spread over at least three continuous tiles. For terrain paints, the appropriate size of uninterrupted paint depends on the scale of your terrain paint.

5:Your screenshots show your creation(s) across multiple tiles or panels and includes all three wall heights. Excellent!

1:The screenshots are taken from an angle which makes it difficult to see your creation(s). As far as possible, screenshots should be taken face-on - from directly in front of the wall, or top-down for floors and ground cover.

3:Your screenshots do show your creations, but they could be seen better from a slightly different angle. The best angle is usually face-on from directly in front of the wall, or top-down for floors and ground cover.
