Please tell us how to make the wallpaper? I make three sizes (256 x1024, 256x768 and 256x512), save as DDS, and what's next? (Excuse my bad english :llama: )

I've got one small question, or I think it's small.. ;)
I've got no experience using XMl files, but I do understand most of the example in the pdf file.
My only question is how to connect the DDS files to the XML file. Do I need to copy paste only the name of my DDS files into the XML file or the whole "C:/ *** " url. Or do I have to place the DDS files in the same folder as the XML file and the programm will do the rest?

Hope someone can explain. :)

OR is it al lot more difficult? ;)

The easiest way is to have the 3 .dds files in the same folder as the xml file and just the bare name of the dds files pasted into the xml.

Thank you for answering, I'm going to find out if I can make it work. Never done anything like this before but I like learning new things. :) :up:

@granthes do you happen to know how the game decides which textures to apply on corners? Poking at the game files this weekend, I couldn't find anything =/

(If you look at siding for instance, there is an obvious differnce between wood siding with thite trim, and wood/brick siding with white trim -- try applying that to a 1xN room if you don't know what I mean)

It worked! :bunny:

First time trying I got an error while making the package, I think it's because I used ")" and "?" in the code or because I forgot to put ".dds" behind the texture names.
So I tried it again and ended in game with this:
http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac247/BakieProductions/The%20Sims%204/MTS%20problems/Concretewalltest_zps7a496d36.png

It's far from perfect, but it works! Now I have to get rid of the lines. Maybe use clone stamp or something.
Thanks for this awesome tool! And if somebody has any tips or tricks, please let me know. :up:

I'm not sure about other image software, but in Photo Shop, it's fairly easy to get rid of the lines (seams).

First, load your image, then go to Filter-Other-Offset
Leave vertical at 0, and make horizontal half of your image's width (128 for walls).

What this does is 'wrap' you image around the edges, so you can see what it will look like when tiled.
You should see your seam running right down the middle of your texture.

Then use whatever kind of tools you want to get rid of the seam (i.e. smoothing, eraser, etc).

Then go back to Filter-Other-Offset and this time set the horizontal to the negative of your image's width (-128 for walls).
This will reset the wrapping back to its original state.

Now when the walls are placed next to each other, the seams should be gone.

That sounds simple indeed!
I just made the canvas 1x as width and was using the clone stamp to make the seams go away, but it still doesn't work and it's a lot of work with the different layers and copy pasting the left and right cloned side of the wall.

I'm going to use offset as you said. I let you know if it worked! :up:
Thanks for your help!

After I create this can I just open the package in S4PE and replace the swatches there with the custom swatch images I've created?

I think this program will only be made for wall coverings, floor and terrain paints.
But there are definitely going to be programs for that such things too. You can also made Clothing recolors already. You can use a program like ColorMagic (http://sims4.the-prof.net/?page_id=404) in combination with S4PE (https://github.com/Sims4Group/Sims4Tools/releases) for that for example.

Unfortunately, no, I don't think this will work. As the swatches are simply defined by the color codes, there is no actual image to replace. I'm not even sure if catalog stuff can have custom swatch images, but if they can, I would have no idea which part of which file refers to them. Maybe someone smarter than me will figure it out.

That's what I thought someone was going to say. I opened it up in S4PE but nothing looked like the thumbs in other files. I'll take what I can get for now though!

Yeah... I think Grant went with the solid swatches because that is ALL EA uses for walls and floors.

There may be a way to get image swatches to work; if somebody figures it out I'm sure he can update WallEz to support it :)

Paste your XML file in your post, and we'll try to figure it out.

Also, let us know what error WallEz gives you... you can take a screenshot of the DOS window before you close it :)

You're very first line is missing the < character at the beginning, although that could just be a copy/paste mistake.

Also, your filenames don't have their extensions, should be a.dds, b.dds, c.dds

Is it just me or does the Swatch thing not work like it supposed to do.
I'm making a new wallpaper with 3 color-swatches. But all my colors in the middle:
<Swatch Top="#a4f0ed" Middle="#a4f0ed" Bottom="#87b728"/> are ending up at the bottom of the swatch and bottom colors in the middle. (First color is the same as the second)

http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac247/BakieProductions/The%20Sims%204/MTS%20problems/Swatchwrong_zps4fd1a206.png

EDIT:
I see it's a known issue on the WallEz forum. Have to switch them myself untill the next update. :up:
:alarm: So for everybody who wants to have 3 colored swatches: Put the bottom color at the middle and visa versa

To make multiple swatches, duplicate the whole <Wall> tag like:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Package Creator="marisita" Filename="dottedwall">
<Wall Price="2" Name="dots" Description="wallpaper">
<Tag Type="Color" Value="Pink"/>
<Tag Type="Style" Value="Wallpaper"/>
<Swatch Top="#ffc0cb" Middle="#ffc0cb" Bottom="#ffc0cb"/>

<TextureShort Filename="shortdot.dds"/>
<TextureMedium Filename="mediumdot.dds"/>
<TextureTall Filename="talldot.dds"/>
</Wall>
<Wall Price="2" Name="IMPORTANT!DifferentNameHere" Description="wallpaper">
<Tag Type="Color" Value="Pink"/>
<Tag Type="Style" Value="Wallpaper"/>
<Swatch Top="#ffc0cb" Middle="#ffc0cb" Bottom="#ffc0cb"/>

<TextureShort Filename="shortdot.dds"/>
<TextureMedium Filename="mediumdot.dds"/>
<TextureTall Filename="talldot.dds"/>
</Wall>
</Package>

Just don't use same name for both Wall tags

Thank you very much!!!! Do i have to change the numbers of the swatch i mean this:

<Swatch Top="#ffc0cb" Middle="#ffc0cb" Bottom="#ffc0cb"/>

Those numbers are color-codes.
So if you want a one color swatch, all those numbers have to be the same.
For two colors, you could make the Middle and Bottom the same.
For three colors, all numbers have to be different.

You can find this code in your image editor, for example Photoshop or on a website like this: CLICK (http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp)

*At the moment there is a small problem that switches the middle and bottom color in The Sims 4. So if you want a specific order in color, then use Top as first color, bottom as second, and middle as third*

If you make a shortcut to the WallEz program and your packages end up going into the WallEz folder, you need to edit the shortcut and make sure that the Start in: field is blank.

This will make it put the package in the same folder as the xml file.

You need to provide the full file address for the .dds files, not just the name even if they are in the same folder. For example mine looks like this:
<TextureShort Filename="C:\Users\teagan\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods\Working Files\red1.dds"/>

Where did you get that idea? If you read it somewhere, then whatever you read needs to be corrected- because you don't have to have all of that. Just the "red1.dds" is all that's needed. The documentation that comes with WallEz even shows you that. :)

Here's my XML for reference:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Package Creator="Shenice93" Filename="Ombre Wallpaper">
<Wall Price="5" Name="White to Red" Description="This effect is modern and offer bold pops of color in any interior decorating scheme">
<Tag Type="Color" Value="Red"/>
<Tag Type="Style" Value="Wallpaper"/>
<Swatch Top="#ff0000" Middle="#c00000" Bottom="#c00000"/>

<TextureShort Filename="Ombre Red1.dds"/>
<TextureMedium Filename="Ombre Red2.dds"/>
<TextureTall Filename="Ombre Red3.dds"/>
</Wall>
</Package>

Basically, I can't find anything wrong with this, yet for some reason my medium height wall comes out like this:

The other two heights are fine.

If you just want to attach a picture to your post, scroll down a little when posting and you will see Manage Attachments - Image Upload.

If you want to submit your creation to the site, at the top of the screen select Create - Upload Items

Google Translate:

In other words .. what Snaitf said, only in actual German =P. (But thanks for playing, Google! :rofl: )

Hey guys, I have a problem too.
I did what the pdf file said, multiple times, with different wallpapers, but wallEz keeps crashing. (Have the same issue with SP4) :|

Well, I'm no expert, but that looks to me like an Administrator Access problem. Try this: Right-click on WallEz.exe, select Properties, select Compatibility, check "Run this program as an Administrator", click OK, and then try again.

I've already tried it. It doesn't work, same error. :cry:

Hmm, well that stinks. Maybe try running from a command line?

Start - Run - CMD
cd c:\Users\indigoskycaller\Desktop\WallEz-0.1.1\
WallEz.exe OwlsWallpaper.xml

Well, tbh, I really don't know what else to try. Sorry :(

However, if you still can't get this to work, a new version of S4Studio was just released that does walls. Maybe try that.

I managed to solve the problem.

For those who have my same issue, make sure you've updated your .NET Framework and Right-click on WallEz.exe, select Properties, select Compatibility, check "Run this program as an Administrator", click OK, and then try again.

did you create a plain white alpha on ur dds files ? might be why they blank perhaps?

I think you were right, I managed to get hold of a copy of CS6 through work and resaved the DDSs with no Alpha and the walls work now, only problem I have now is that the thumbnails still have the big question mark on them.

Now that you've fixed the textures, try deleting your \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\localthumbcache.package, and see if the game generates them correctly now (if the game had previously tried using bad textures to create the thumbs, it would have stored a bad cache that needs to be cleared so it can generate a good one, maybe)
