Qualifications to Host:
I have been a contestant in numerous contests including:

Community Spirit (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=592998)
Calendar Contest 2017 (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=585087)

I have hosted one contest, the 2018 Calendar Contest (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=602917)

Ever feel the need to travel to a unique place? Would you like to create your very own vacation spot? Well here's your chance! There will be 4 rounds.

Just say you want a spot :) Put Wanderlust in a sentence in your post. First come, first serve. Since this is open to all skill levels, I realize not everyone has proof of qualifications. This is a beginner's contest, so just say you want to join. Don't forget the codeword ;)

Rules and Requirements:
This is for Sims 2 only, Base game on up. Custom content is allowed. Each round will last 2 weeks. No eliminations. A limit of 12 applicants. First come, first serve. If for some reason, I miss one, I will allow a special add on. The following is a description of what lots are going to be built, and in what style, and what order. Just a note: While this contest is based on Bon Voyage, it isn't limited to Bon Voyage players. There is no bonus for custom content free, so if other players from base game onward want to play, they aren't penalized for having to get custom content to make any of the following lot types which is a description of what lots are going to be built, in what style, and what order. Also players of all skill levels welcome :)

1. A food lot/restaurant style lot.
2. An entertainment style lot. This could be a bar, a dance club, or a theater or anything else you can dream up.
3. A vacation home. A hotel could be built instead, if you have Bon Voyage and is an allowed substitute.
4. A location that represents that particular cultural/geographical location well. It should be unique to the theme.(for instance a beach would be a good choice for tropical, a shrine would be another good example).

Along with the lot types, you also have to use 1 of the 4 following themes. 1 per lot type.
1. Tropical
2. Eastern
3. Mountain/Country
4. Desert

You may use any of the themes with any of the lot types ONCE. You cannot have two restaurants, and two tropical locations for instance. If you do tropical when we do restaurants, you will have to use one of the others for your entertainment style lot.
The lots, in the order they are to be done, are as follows:

1. Restaurant/food lot (not necessarily a restaurant that is an example) 80,000 2x3 or 3x2
2.Entertainment lot/bar (example) 100,000 and 3x4 or 4x3
3.Vacation home/hotel 3x3 lot 150,000
4. :new: Unique, activities style lot unique to that culture/geographical location. Can be any size, any budget, any type, as long as it matches the theme you have left to use, and is unique to that location. :new:
The size and budget for each of the others will be given at the beginning of each round.

The build is judged on decor(both inside and outside), playability, uniqueness, build quality, how well it matches the theme, and budget.

Decor: Inside and outside together are 5 points.
Playability: 5 points
Uniqueness: 5 points
Build Quality: 5 points
Theme Correlation: 5 points
Budget: 5 points

For a total of 30 points for each round per judge.

Judges: There will be 3 judges. Kukamuukaanmuka will be the emergency judge if we need one. The judges are:
Judge 1 joandsarah77 (http://www.modthesims.info/m/1433933)
Judge 2 Red Sonja (http://www.modthesims.info/member.php?u=7530775)
Judge 3Gummilutt (http://modthesims.info/m/5516233)
We now have a second emergency judge :) yavannatw
Picture Rules:
All images must meet MTS screenshot guidelines.
All but the first image must be placed under [ SPOILER ] tags.
You may edit your pictures up until the deadline.
Each round requires:
1 shot showing the front.
1 shot showing the back
1 shot showing the price. (If you have the needed EP simply show the price on the lot.)
1 shot of each floor plan as close as you can. That not only means each floor, but each building on the lot as well.

You are allowed another 10 extra photos to show off your lot to its best advantage. So 14 shots total. If your house has a second story that is a second floor plan shot making 15 pictures. You don't have to do this many but you can if you want to.
New Photo Rules for last round (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=5377988#post5377988)

Floorplans: An overhead picture of each floor.
Front view: A picture of the front of your lot with all levels showing, from a low enough angle that it shows the structure well.
Floorplans: An overhead picture of each floor.
Keep the following in mind for your screenshots, especially the required ones:

Size: 600 pixels or more on the smallest side is a good size to aim for. Your images can be up to 2560x1440 pixels, and 800 kb, so you have lots of space to work with!
Lighting: For most things, it's best to take pictures in an interior room with good lighting. For lots, pictures should be taken during a nice sunny day, for floorplans, take the pictures with the lights ON.
Clarity: Neither blurry, nor pixellated/crunchy. Do not size up small pictures to make a large one as this will blur them, and make sure not to use too much compression/too low quality when saving your images.
Distance: Take your pictures so that your creation fills the screen without anything cut off at top or bottom - neither zoomed in too close, nor zoomed out too far.
Distortion: If you resize your images, retain the aspect ratio so they don't get stretched or squashed. Take care when zooming in and out with the camera that you do not create a fisheye effect on your pictures.
Photoshopping: Do not apply filters like sharpen, contrast, etc. to the required pictures, as downloaders want to see what your creation will look like in their game, not your skills at using Photoshop.

Custom sized beach lots (http://www.modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=1839440&postcount=1384) These are in Research and Development, and have been there a LONG time. From what I have read, the 2 plus sizes are ok to use, but I have never used them so try at own risk.

If anyone wants to be a judge please apply below, as I have two slots remaining :) Please submit one build, or link to one, if you have one uploaded somewhere, and I will consider your application :)

Judges all filled :)

:!: Clarification on themes :!:
Some of the judges and contestants wanted clarification :) I wanted to point out, for instance, while I originally thought Oriental Iike Bon Voyage, there really is no reason Middle Eastern/Moroccan for example couldn't fit in either Eastern or Desert. Desert doesn't mean just Southwestern U.S. either it could be the Sahara for that matter. Tropical just means literally any kind of tropical from island paradises to jungles. Same with Country. It doesn't have to be American country, it just means a rural setting. I included mountain, as that is what Bon Voyage calls it. So rural or mountainous works fine :)

Countdown Timer (https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/vacation?p0=1440&iso=20180507T03&year=2018&month=5&day=7&hour=3&min=0&sec=0&msg=Wanderlust%20Judging%20Time&csz=1)

:new: Please when you submit, list in the title area what theme you are going with, and what your take is on it ? Such as English Country, or Saharan Desert, whatever, if it is generic desert, say, you can say that as well. This just makes it easier for the judges. :new:

Ok Officially checked in :)

2nd Feb 2018, 11:03 PM
Application to judge so it's official. A few pictures of an apartment that I am currently building.

2nd Feb 2018, 11:37 PM
<deep breath> Can I be allowed to be a contestant (if staff not allowed, no problem)?

2nd Feb 2018, 11:38 PM
yes you are! :) I was in Jo's.

3rd Feb 2018, 12:06 AM
Contest post has been edited to add a new application rule.

3rd Feb 2018, 12:08 AM
OK. I want to do this. I have the Wanderlust. My Twikkii needs a nightclub, so why not? I have a question though, when is round 1 due? Is the 60,000 Simoleon/ 2x3 lot size the requirement and is the 2x3 count either orientation of that size?

3rd Feb 2018, 12:10 AM
Yes either way will work (2x3 or 3x2) and 60,000 is the upper limit :) I will list you :) as far as when it is due, I will officially start the countdown when we have our participants, or in a week, whichever comes first.

3rd Feb 2018, 12:11 AM
So hopefully I won't have Wanderlust then. And can I have a spot?

3rd Feb 2018, 12:13 AM
Yep! you are in :) I will add you!

3rd Feb 2018, 1:10 AM
I'm in. Already getting round 1 cc sorted. Am I safe to assume a Mexican restaurant would be fine for the desert theme?

Edit: Has anyone else seen the movie, Wanderlust? It was pretty amusing.

3rd Feb 2018, 1:24 AM
Yes as long as you have obvious desert landscaping, it shouldn't be a problem. :) don't forget your code word. :P

3rd Feb 2018, 2:41 AM
Ah yes, have edited my previous post...

3rd Feb 2018, 2:48 AM
Have added you to the board :)

3rd Feb 2018, 3:01 AM
I love to go a wandering, along a mountain range and as I go, I love to sing with wanderlust on my brain.

3rd Feb 2018, 3:33 AM
Adding you in @celebkiriedhel and already did @justJones

3rd Feb 2018, 4:00 AM
Wanderlust is in my heart, I want to hit the road :)

3rd Feb 2018, 4:25 AM
added you @Justpetro

3rd Feb 2018, 4:26 AM
I'd very much like a spot in the Wanderlust contest!

3rd Feb 2018, 4:48 AM
There you go @Sparkysays :)

3rd Feb 2018, 6:55 AM
This time I swear I'm gonna stick til the very end. I have a Wanderlust!

I recently started a BACC on a small island and I wanted it to look as if it is a vacation hood. All my playables are the locals, and all the townies will be the tourists.
Anyways I just finished the Mayor's house this morning. The rest of the island is empty and this is going to be the perfect opportunity to get my head cracking at a tight schedule!

P.S.**I was gonna upload the lot on MTS for download but my gazebo roof is pay content. Is pay content from booty allowed in the contest?**

3rd Feb 2018, 7:29 AM
//I need to enter so badly this time//

Edit: I have no idea what Wanderlust actually means

I wanderlusted lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

The rest of the poem is here:

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

William Wordsworth

You can find it here (https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45521/i-wandered-lonely-as-a-cloud) and listen to it as well if you want to:

3rd Feb 2018, 9:20 AM
All the Wanderlust here as well. It's been a while since I've taken part in a contest! How exciting :-D

3rd Feb 2018, 11:20 AM
Ahh.........Wanderlust by Wordsworth, always liked that one. This sounds like what I need at this very moment!! Something to let my imagination run wild!!

3rd Feb 2018, 1:26 PM
I have been asked to create a play along board so just mention if you just want to play along instead, and I will create a play along board later today :)

Also if anyone would like to be a judge , or is willing to volunteer, please let me know :)

3rd Feb 2018, 3:38 PM
gdayars, stick me in the play along. I'm currently living bedside with my bff in the hospital, and have been for the last month. I'd love a distraction like a build contest to work on while I'm here, but I can't commit to being on time because of all the stuff happening here with no notice. And simming on my laptop rather than my regular machine will make it extra fun (so not, and no CC! sad!). Btw, wanderlust is such a weird word.

Peni Griffin
3rd Feb 2018, 4:04 PM
That's not how the poem goes, though. It's "I wandered lonely as a cloud." And the title is "Daffodils."

Wanderlust is a noun, not a verb - the desire to wander. Not weird at all, just a good old Germanic combination.

Part of me wants to join this and part of me says, No, you're just now feeling better and getting productive, you don't need to overload your plate. So I guess I better not. Maybe I'll do a play-along.

ETA: Oh, and very sorry to hear you're doing bedside living right now, Phaenoh! Health crap sucks and severe health crap sucks just as much for the caretaker as for the direct sufferer! If it's going to be awhile, get a cot in the room - my back was bad for months from hospital chairs even after the Year from Hell was over.

3rd Feb 2018, 4:28 PM
I'd like to join please gdayars :)

3rd Feb 2018, 4:32 PM
Wanderlust lead me here (thanks for the nudge Jo)
If there's room for one more - I'll join :luff:

Rule clarification... if we use CC (which I'm eternally grateful for being able to use!) How is the budget going to be affected? IE: most CC wallpaper is $1!

3rd Feb 2018, 5:28 PM
I've decided to play along to indulge my wanderlust. We'll see if I can make this laptop go up in smoke like my desktop. Oh well!

3rd Feb 2018, 7:01 PM
I'd like to get in on the Wanderlust if I may. :turtle: I'm not much of a builder, and have never done a build contest before, but practice is how we get better, right?

3rd Feb 2018, 7:57 PM
Can we post our lot whenever or do we have to wait until the entire roster fills up?

3rd Feb 2018, 7:57 PM
@suzanne70 and @kerri191 I will be very happy to add you as soon as you add the special word ;) hint: it starts with a W and ends with a t :)

(read in the application part :) )

3rd Feb 2018, 8:08 PM
Sorry for the doubleposting...

But it doesn't read @ if you edit. I have added the following people to the main board @kanzen @Karen Lorraine @OnayaW @lauratje86 @pannisim @Freelala @CatherineTCJD

I have added @Phaenoh @Peni Griffin and @gazania to the playalong If I misunderstood please let me know! and Phae I am sorry about the in hospital living :/ have been there, done that a few times and it is NEVER pleasant!

Sorry realized Charmful posted while I was!

and that I didn't answer Cat's question either. I didn't get much sleep last night so forgive me if I am foggy brained today. As far as the CC goes, Cat, everyone can have cheap custom content, so with that amount of money, I fully expect awesome creations ;) Also it is a beginners are included contest so it makes it a bit easier for beginners.

Charmful, as soon as kerri and suzanne supply their missing code word it will be full :) I am still looking for another judge, but after they supply their code words, we will start the timer, and everyone can start uploading :)

Red Sonja

This will be amazing and fun.... I am so looking forward ti checking out all of the builds!

3rd Feb 2018, 9:55 PM
So happy to have you here! :)

Meantime, I am going to see if I can get the emergency judge to step up to non emergency :D and if she can't, and no one else volunteers, I will just be the last judge, and we can move onward and upward :)

Well, I guess this would be a good time to join my first contest. I'm by no means an experienced builder in the themes we'll have to build, but I have wanderlust and so I'll give it a try!

3rd Feb 2018, 11:47 PM
@Yvelotic2001 added :)

4th Feb 2018, 12:30 AM
I'd love to join Wanderlust! I guess I wasn't too late after all :D

4th Feb 2018, 12:31 AM
@Sparklypotato actually the other two haven't come back yet, so there is one more slot. if they do I will add them, but if they don't, it is ok. You can have the last slot (except for the two who forgot the code word and I already told they could come back and add it :) )

But the only slots available other than @suzanne70 and @Kerri191 who have to supply the code word, after this, are play along ones

4th Feb 2018, 12:51 AM
Good to see lots of old and new faces. :D

Hi Red Sonja, welcome to the judging box. Can we get one more person to apply as a judge?

4th Feb 2018, 1:50 AM
I would love to join in but I am way to scared to even attempt this lol.. :D so I subscribed to watch and learn..maybe next time around..

4th Feb 2018, 1:53 AM
Come and join the play along. Us judges don't bite.

4th Feb 2018, 1:57 AM
I don't know Jo..it took me forever to get the guts to join in on CherryBlossom Sims contests and challenges lol..

I'm not even sure what to do..??

I have never done something like this before..but what the heck I would like to do the playalong..are these just members that want to do it but not be judged..

Ok I will give it a try..not good at building, decorating, designing things but what the heck right..it's to learn and have fun..so I put Wonderlust in a sentence..right lol.. :Pint: I think I am going to need a drink on this one

4th Feb 2018, 2:10 AM
I still would love to join wanderlust :)

4th Feb 2018, 2:15 AM
@suzanne70 and @broomhilda61 you are in your respective positions ;)

4th Feb 2018, 2:27 AM
((group hugs))

I will try to give some play along comments as well. The main aim is to improve and have fun. So don't think of it as being judged but rather mentored and encouraged. :)

Petro, I think we need the juice bar opening. ;)

4th Feb 2018, 2:40 AM
dont worry, just have fun and you won't notice that you're improving as well :) everyone here learns from each other, we're in this together

4th Feb 2018, 2:41 AM
Gummi has agreed to judge. She has been out and didn't realize the contest had started. She had agreed to before, but things have been interesting. She will be on later to do her official application However if anyone else comes along, we can always have more emergency judges... Nothing like not having to do it myself :P

I posted this twice in one thread, and not at all in another.. I am definitely tired LOL.

4th Feb 2018, 2:43 AM
*waits for the contest to start for real real*

I may or may not have my entry ready to go...I swear I'm not cutthroat competitive, I just want to shaaaare :)

4th Feb 2018, 2:45 AM
Well we will start in the morning as soon as I am awake enough to announce it, and put in the countdown timer ;)

4th Feb 2018, 2:51 AM
lol that's funny kanzen..

Yes, Jo we need a juice bar..I don't drink anymore except when putting on the smilies :Pint:

Thank you everyone..and well the panic mode just started

When does this start?????

4th Feb 2018, 2:54 AM
In the morning, I will put a countdown timer in for 2 weeks, @broomhilda61 and it will officially begin. our last straggler and any play alongs have until the end of that first round to get signed up but after that it is completely closed.

4th Feb 2018, 2:58 AM
Ok thank you gdayars..

Now what do I do???? I'm sorry I am all new to these kind of contests..and of course I still have to find all my items that I want and need..

4th Feb 2018, 3:05 AM
I would like to judge :) I have several lot uploads, some of which sort of fit into the theme of this contest.
- Mitra vacation home (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=581264), based on Saturnfly's The Mitra
- Funtopia water land (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=551588), an entertainment community lot in a tropical style
- Sunnyside mall (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=555947), a mall with a restaurant and entertainment, loosely based on a real mall I used to go to in Sevilla, southern Spain

I love to travel, and Bon Voyage is one of my favorite expansion packs, so I say, bring it Wanderlust! Can't wait to see what you guys all create for this contest :)

4th Feb 2018, 3:17 AM
@gummilutt you are added and @broomhilda61 for the first round you build 1. Restaurant/food lot (not necessarily a restaurant that is an example) 60,000 2x3 it can also be 3x2. You have to pick one theme for each lot type, from the following: tropical, mountain/country, eastern, or desert. Once you choose one for each type of lot, you cannot repeat that theme. Your goal is to build it as closely as possible to theme, and to type, but still show as much uniqueness and build quality as you can. Decor and playability count as well :) Be careful to stay under budget, and look at the picture rules! :)

4th Feb 2018, 3:22 AM
Thank you so much gdayars..

I am starting to really shake here now lol...panic mode..lol..

What is Eastern..??? and does this have to be in the bon voyage neighborhoods..I do have the Ultimate Collection..

Sorry for all the questions..I tend to do this even at CBS lol..

4th Feb 2018, 3:24 AM
For those that are unsure, the first round is 1. A food lot/restaurant style lot. Then pick an area: 1 Tropical, 2. Eastern,3 Mountain/Country, 4. Desert. (you can only pick an area once) Round one must be on a 2 by 3 lot size and you have up to $60,000 to spend.

Eastern/Asian You don't need BV, it can all be cc. I would suggest going with the area that you like the best first, but maybe going with the one you are least sure of might be good to get it out the way. So you pick Eastern go google Asian decorating and Asian restaurant to get some ideas. Look up Asian CC since that might spark more ideas.

4th Feb 2018, 3:29 AM
I would like to do the play-along, please, if that's still available.

4th Feb 2018, 3:29 AM
Eastern is Oriental (I suppose it could be middle Eastern as well since I didn't specify)

it doesn't have to be in a vacation hood, just something you would be apt to see if you went on vacation there :) so think along the lines of an Oriental restaurant. I really was trying to leave it somewhat open for interpretation, as I was hoping for some great creativity to emerge :)

4th Feb 2018, 3:30 AM
Thank you Jo.. :)

Thank you gdayars.. and sorry about that..

4th Feb 2018, 3:31 AM
@Sunbee I added you

4th Feb 2018, 3:36 AM
Is it correct that if you use the 'i' info button that lot size: 20x40 that this = a 3x2/2x3 lot?

4th Feb 2018, 3:42 AM
I think so but Jo is checking for me Charmful :)

Yes it shows one off :) so that would be correct.

4th Feb 2018, 3:44 AM
ah, I just realized that we have a 60,000 budget limit.
I wonder how much my usual lots fetch...dear oh dear

4th Feb 2018, 3:45 AM
I've made over the post to be fancily worded @gdayars :D

4th Feb 2018, 3:45 AM
The road adds 10 tiles to the lot info button, so the game will say 30 by 30 which means the lot is actually 2 by 3.

The easiest Way is hover your mouse over the empty lots in game, it will tell you. :D

4th Feb 2018, 3:47 AM
which means the other size allowed is probably the 40 by 20 or whatever. and ok @kerri191 I am adding you :)

4th Feb 2018, 3:51 AM
40 by 20 sounds like a custom size.

4th Feb 2018, 3:52 AM
I will go in and test really quick as I have a cc free testing hood :)

CLARIFICATION: the game adds 10 to the second number. so 2x3 is 20 by 40 and 3x2 is 30 by 30. EITHER of these is acceptable for the first round :)

4th Feb 2018, 3:57 AM
40x20 would be right if the short side is the front. 30x30 would be for long side front

...or maybe visa versa but still should be right for one of the allowed versions...I think...but now I've confused myself, lol

4th Feb 2018, 3:57 AM
This is what I mean about mouse hover and lot size.

4th Feb 2018, 3:59 AM
CLARIFICATION: the game adds 10 to the second number. so 2x3 is 20 by 40 and 3x2 is 30 by 30. EITHER of these is acceptable for the first round Repeating here in case no one saw my old post :P

4th Feb 2018, 4:11 AM
Thank you all for confirming. I did use the hood mouse-over version to set down my lot but that was yesterday and today when I was looking at the info, that's where I got confused by the number difference/change. BUT KNOW I KNOW! THANKS!!

4th Feb 2018, 4:14 AM
Yes it is well clarified :D

Meantime I went ahead and started the Countdown Timer, set to UTC and set for a few hours ahead so it will match up as if we started early in my morning, so I can get some sleep :) It is at the bottom of the post.

Good night and have fun everybody! :)

4th Feb 2018, 4:26 AM
Peni, yeah. I've gotten cots in 2 of the 6 rooms we've been in, but honestly the recliners are often more comfortable. I've been with her since the 11th, and they still don't have a diagnosis. They thought they had one two weeks ago, but she didn't respond to the treatment and has just continued to slowly get worse. The heartbreaking part is that what started all this was that she developed pre-eclampsia and they had to emergency c-section deliver her baby a month and a half premature, so now she's been separated from her firstborn tiny baby boy, and no one can seem to figure out why she is slowly getting worse and worse. She's afraid of dying and never seeing him grow up, or becoming entirely helpless and trapped in her useless body.
gdayars, usually play alongs aren't scored, was that just a copy/paste oversight when you added the second table, or is that a feature of this contest? I'd honestly rather not be scored, judging is such time consuming work and I don't want to make more work for them when I'm not a fully committed contestant.

4th Feb 2018, 4:37 AM
Oh sorry @Phaenoh there won't be scores in the play alongs that is just a place to put smiley faces I have not had a chance to clean it up as there will be no totals or actual points I just copied and pasted over til I had time.

4th Feb 2018, 4:40 AM
Oh Yeah!!! *clinks with Jo* - Thanks Petro for keeping us hydrated - again :D
Let's get this party started :luff:

ETA: Woah - my page hadn't updated properly - I was still on page no. 1!
Let me redo: Let's keep this party rollin' (cuz it's already started - obviously!)

4th Feb 2018, 5:26 AM

4th Feb 2018, 5:53 AM
Thank you all for your help..and

OMGosh..I had to scroll really fast with that first entry..I don't like looking at entries until I have mine in..this way I am not influenced in any way shape or form..

4th Feb 2018, 7:32 AM
I think the lot size in the bin is correct - it is when you use the Lot adjuster to change the size that it may not look right (guess who lost points due to that in a previous contest ;) ).

The Fermented Fruit Juice bar will open shortly. You drank so much last time that I need to restock first. Welcome to the new contestants; I trust that you will all have a lot of fun (and learn a lot as well) :)

4th Feb 2018, 12:15 PM
I may or may not have my entry ready to go...I swear I'm not cutthroat competitive, I just want to shaaaare :)
I am totally cutthroat competitive - I'm going to have to rein myself in.

OK now we're started, questions:

Can we use hood deco as part of the presentation? I mean things like the skydomes and Voeille's water mod. And trees obviously and anything else (I have an extensive collection)

For the shots, can sims be present in the pictures? I'm thinking of pictures taken on a test lot

Is use of the magic wand permissible or does price have to be straight out of the catalogue? This is problematic since it can make quite a difference but the other thing is I've altered so much of my CC (because it was ridiculously priced) including most wallpapers I download - in my case, if they come at $1, I alter them upwards.

Can I use a beach lot for tropical and what size would I use?

4th Feb 2018, 12:33 PM
No magic wand. I mean the contest at it's heart is already pretty cheat.Isnt that a bit over the top? It isn't decor. It doesn't make things prettier. It is just cheaty.

CC is allowed. That means sky domes. They are a form of decor. While in practice, I realize this won't be totally true, in theory the build itself should be the only consideration. I realize tho that a tropical location would probably be heightened by the proper looking sky. As far as water mods, most will probably already have those, and again CC is allowed. Basically same thing as sky domes. I will encourage judges to pretend those things aren't present.

"Watches stampede to download said items"

Just realized the question about tropical lots... There will be one time you can use a beach lot, the last one. I had to keep it base game friendly and base game doesn't have beach lots. The last one is lot size free. The rest have specific sizes.

Edited to add, it isn't beach lots that are bad, I just needed sizes that were possible for base game people. 2x3 and 3x2 are same size turned differently so I allowed either one. The custom beach lots down below have sizes that fit in, and are allowable.

4th Feb 2018, 12:43 PM
Oh - shame about the beach lot. Not sure I want to change what I was planning. I'll give it some thought and let you know.

4th Feb 2018, 1:21 PM
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=1839440#post1839440 I knew these existed, Jo found them for me :) Custom sized beach lots.

4th Feb 2018, 1:25 PM
Oh OK - you seemed to be saying only the last round could use a beach lot but what you meant was that the in-game versions are too big. I'll have a look at those.

4th Feb 2018, 2:09 PM
Charmful man, damn. Now I lost my courage if I even had one. I realize I need to go with another type of eating place than the one I wanted to do cause all the old type furniture is expensive as hell, So I won't be able to do a Kro (It's basically a pub but bigger and it fills a whole house instead of a corner...)
IDK what to even do since I have to replan the whole thing and do something else -n-/ But hey, I have what? a week or two right?

4th Feb 2018, 2:37 PM
When is the deadline?

4th Feb 2018, 2:41 PM
When is the deadline?
Couple of weeks yet - did you register to take part?

4th Feb 2018, 3:45 PM
Happy contest and o everyone.

4th Feb 2018, 3:46 PM
Happy contest To everyone.

4th Feb 2018, 4:25 PM
I can still add people to the play along :) but the main contest is now filled :)

Be warned. Play alongs get smiley faces, that is why I left them a score, but no total. I removed the total column after @Phaenoh reminded me I had left it in, in my haste to add a play along table.

There is a countdown timer at the bottom of the first post. It is a link that you can click to bring up how long we have til the judges take over :)

@franfeliano I am fixing to add you to the playalong. @RickandMorty if you want to participate, the time to join is now, but it can only be as a play along. Contests are a first come, first serve business and you have to hop on quick these days! I will go ahead and add you to it, but if you don't want to be on it, just let me know.

4th Feb 2018, 4:38 PM
Well, now I realize I was incredibly, foolishly hasty. What's the policy on amending entries? @gdayars

4th Feb 2018, 4:42 PM
you may edit them @kerri191 up until the last second of the timer :)

4th Feb 2018, 4:47 PM
Is the first round a food lot? I wanna be sure

4th Feb 2018, 4:52 PM
Yes it is :)

4th Feb 2018, 5:54 PM
Charmful man, damn. Now I lost my courage if I even had one. I realize I need to go with another type of eating place than the one I wanted to do cause all the old type furniture is expensive as hell, So I won't be able to do a Kro (It's basically a pub but bigger and it fills a whole house instead of a corner...)
IDK what to even do since I have to replan the whole thing and do something else -n-/ But hey, I have what? a week or two right?

Ahh, sorry I kind of jumped in all gung-ho but please do not get discouraged! And while I'm a stickler on myself for presentation, the fact is, my 'technical building' is pretty mediocre. I just make up for it with landscaping and interior decorating. I hope you can find a place to build, and maybe if the furniture is too expensive, you could search for any alternates that were cheaper and invoked the same kind of feel? And if not, you do have like 2 weeks to be inspired and build another kind of place :)

4th Feb 2018, 6:23 PM
@Charmful don't worry, I think I have something but it feels so mediocre anyway even though I did it cheaper than last. I of cause forgot to open fraps ._______.

4th Feb 2018, 6:30 PM
I am building something that is vaguely oriental here :)

The Fermented Fruit Juice Bar is now open! Drinks on the house for everyone tonight (Cat, I even made sure there are no orange ones :))

4th Feb 2018, 7:39 PM
The Fermented Fruit Juice Bar is now open!

I'll just grab myself something strong while I make something new that isn't so...so as what I did.

4th Feb 2018, 7:40 PM
Well, seeing people post their builds on the first day motivated me to go and build my own. I wasn't planning on building it this early on, but I figured I could get it out of the way while I'm free and now I have 2 weeks to improve it. Yay! I'm going for a tropical restaurant. I'm quite pleased with the interior, but I don't know if the exterior looks too modern for the theme. I'll figure it out in until the deadline.
Great entries so far! Eastern is the theme that "scares" me the most, and after seeing that lot, Charmful, I'm even more scared lol!

Is it worth it posting pictures already or should I wait a little longer?

4th Feb 2018, 7:46 PM
I would wait... personally, until you have what you consider a finished product. but that is me, and others may differ :) and I wouldn't worry about modern as opposed to not modern. Look up modern tropical restaurants and see if you can get an idea from those.

4th Feb 2018, 8:07 PM
I'm just going to leave my entry as is. But I do intend to redo at a later time with something else. I like my theme, I just realized that my structure was too ambitious for the budget, and it didn't have to be that way. Which I realized halfway through, and then kept going anyway. Who knows why.

4th Feb 2018, 8:40 PM
Everyone's entries look really good so far! I love the tea house, it's gorgeous.

4th Feb 2018, 9:11 PM
UPDATE... After talking to a few people that said if they did want to do CC free, it would be a bit low, I am upping it to 80,000

4th Feb 2018, 9:25 PM
UPDATE... I am upping it to 80,000 WOAH! Good to know :luff: Thanks!

4th Feb 2018, 9:28 PM
Time to add lots of useless items for decorative purposes!

4th Feb 2018, 9:42 PM
You guys are spoiled! :D

4th Feb 2018, 9:46 PM
That is really awesome - I don't want to add a bunch of cc just because it is cheap :) Thank you, gdayars!

4th Feb 2018, 9:55 PM
OK 3x2 $80000 now

4th Feb 2018, 10:13 PM
yes 80,000 3x2 or 2x3 either one would work :)

and sorry to confuse you!

next round will be more on par I hope :)

4th Feb 2018, 10:45 PM
The first round of a contest is always a bit fidgety ;) Even if it's your millionth time hosting, lol.

4th Feb 2018, 11:38 PM
Now I have two houses to choose from

5th Feb 2018, 12:10 AM
Shoot! It's started?

I have to put the finishing touches on another lot I'll be uploading shortly. It's vaguely connected with the Pets theme. Kind of. It may not count. Then it's off to this contest.

I'd better get a move on, since I'll be losing a day or two! Good thing I'm a playalong! Because of everything with my surgery and recovery, my lots may be more rushed than I'd like, but them's the breaks.

So .... 2x3 or 3x2. 80 Simoleons. One Part 1 item, one Part 2. That's it?

I suppose my prep game for my other uploads will do for building as much as any, but I would have to get a shopping district with beach lots for future rounds. No problem!

5th Feb 2018, 12:43 AM
One Part 1 item, one Part 2. That's it? It has to be a restaurant.

5th Feb 2018, 12:58 AM
yes @gazania we are doing the TYPE of lot in order, but you are free to choose which theme it is :)

5th Feb 2018, 12:59 AM
Entries: can you all make sure your pictures blow up nice and large since at least one judge is as blind as a bat...

@Charmful if the floorplan at least can be attached so I can blow it up. Also one of each building.

Everyone: If you have more than one building on your lot, each building also requires its own floor plan.

Another tip, we can only judge what we can see well. If your specially decorated area can't be seen it won't matter how long you spent on it. So make sure to showcase those areas. :)

5th Feb 2018, 1:28 AM
Is there a way to attach images to posts after they have been posted? I never seen an option when I go into edit (I only see it on creating a post) but have added floor plans of both buildings at a closer view.

Edit: Thanks Gdayars. I know how to always add inline tags for images but didn't realize there was a tab for attachments on edited posts. Thanks!

5th Feb 2018, 1:38 AM
Yes you can upload to modyourpanties then hit the img button and add the url :) and it will show in your edited post.

You can also go over to attachments, and then go down to the bottom of the post, and there is a way to upload images and files there :)

5th Feb 2018, 2:14 AM
I didn't read past the first entry and I didn't see a comment about it so am asking as well..but kanzen had asked on the first page if Booty items can be used..can they..if not that is ok..

I just seen a post..do we build our buildings or use in game or cc buildings????

5th Feb 2018, 2:15 AM
OK. Restaurant. 3x2 or 2x3 lot. 80,000 Simoleons.

Debating whether I want to tackle the hardest item on the two lists for me and get that one done (Eastern ... I would like to be respectful to the culture, but feel woefully inadequate making a proper lot) or work on an easier one.

Question: Do you need waiters, or can this be based around the food stand and/or something of that ilk? Or can the food stand be part of the grounds with other stuff on it, such as a garden or add-on establishment (For instance, karaoke?)

5th Feb 2018, 2:42 AM
You build them and I forgot about the booty items. I think don't ask don't tell policy is best....

And it can be a food stand. Up to you.

5th Feb 2018, 2:44 AM
I can't say for certain since I'm not the hostess, but my understanding is it just has to be a food lot. So I think a food stand as a base would be fine.

Edit: I see gdayars was posting as I typed, lol

5th Feb 2018, 2:46 AM
@broomhilda61 You build your own buildings. Don't worry if you are not good at building. I suggest looking up some floor plans online for help. Also, you are not being judged hon, you are playing along and I will give you some feedback, okay?

Booty is allowed but we prefer not to know, so don't tell us, k.

To those who think they can't build here is a build tutorial. http://modthesims.info/t/191530 so if all you do is a box and add a few boxes to it, great!

5th Feb 2018, 2:49 AM
Thank you gdayars and Jo..lol.. :)

Sorry for asking :D

5th Feb 2018, 2:54 AM
@broomhilda61 I added a link to a basic building tutorial. You got this. :)

5th Feb 2018, 2:56 AM
Where is the link Jo..??? I think I need to clean my glasses..lol

Found it.. :D

5th Feb 2018, 3:29 AM
Good morning everyone! I started building last night til 4am and stopped at around 49k....
after that I had a nightmare that I went overbudget.

BUT WHOA 80k budget limit now? am I still asleep?!

*pinches self* WELL HELLO PLANTS.

That's so funny kanzen..I really needed that daily smiles and giggles..

Didn't get those today at CBS.. poppy wasn't on.. :(

I'm still looking and downloading things..it's been a nightmare..with links no longer working..and Sims2 creators leaving..

I do have someone that has been helping me out looking and trying to find the no longer working links..she has been a huge help.. :lovestruc

5th Feb 2018, 4:19 AM
you can try posting all of the stuff you're looking for at the WCIF forum. The community is here to help uvu

5th Feb 2018, 4:30 AM
Thank you so much kanzen.. :) but I think I have almost everything except maybe the kitchen things..and the things that oh brain fart..oh the people that stand at the door..and show the guests to their seats..and things like that..Japanese and Chinese..what I am going for..that is what I was able to find the most of..

5th Feb 2018, 4:51 AM
Remember it doesn't have to be Asian to be Eastern. Middle Eastern/Moroccan is also Eastern.

5th Feb 2018, 5:03 AM
I know Jo..but the Japanese and Chinese cc has been coming up more..for me..
Right now am talking to the girl that has been helping me out..she knows how to use that Wayback Machine..I don't and still having problems with downloading things from there..she is working on that..I found a lot of accessories but nothing for the main restaurant part..
I don't know maybe I am just over my head at attempting this..out of my comfort zone..and on panic mode lol...I know take a deep breath..breath in and breath out..relax..and then say OMGOSH ARE YOU CRAZY GIRL.. :Pint:

5th Feb 2018, 6:59 AM
psstt @broomhilda61, jo is right, everything is up to open creative interpretation
I used South East Asian (Filipino) Country-style (which looks like Spain in the Tropics) for a round that needed Country Style a few years back. Usually people would go for farm-style, western, shabby chic, or barn look. And I did confuse some judges. But overall they liked the new take on country style. Don't be afraid to go outside the box =)

5th Feb 2018, 7:11 AM
If you are searching for 'sims 2 Eastern' then yes it will. If you wanted eg Morrocan you would need to search for 'sims 2 Morrocan'. Although the game itself comes with quite a bit already in a collection folder. :)

Morrocan/middle eastern

5th Feb 2018, 1:35 PM
yes 80,000 3x2 or 2x3 either one would work :)

and sorry to confuse you!

next round will be more on par I hope :)
Not confused - don't worry.
Entries: can you all make sure your pictures blow up nice and large since at least one judge is as blind as a bat...
*hands Jo pair of glasses... and a magnifying glass*

OK - another quick question. Can I do a barbecue and still qualify as a food lot - the main point of the lot will be for sims to go for a barbecue (and maybe other things)

5th Feb 2018, 3:04 PM
As long as food is the PRIMARY point yes. There may be other things present but the emphasis needs to be on the food and it has to be clearly a part of the theme. (Whatever theme you are going for)

It would be really help if people titled theirs something like Oriental restaurant or country steakhouse or whatever, so we know which theme it belongs to.

5th Feb 2018, 4:13 PM
Thank you all so much... :lovestruc

I on my way of getting things..found a bathroom here on MTS well not me but a friend..just a bit ago..it's beautiful and will work perfectly..have errands this afternoon..and if all goes well I will have all my items needed to start this build by next weekend
I'm starting to get excited now that the hunt is just about over lol.. I have a somewhat idea how I want this to go..let's see if I can pull this off  :D

5th Feb 2018, 6:31 PM
Concept: A fresh food market right beside a pier and a lighthouse. Sims can haul in their catch of the day to sell in the market's fish stand, or they can grill it OR ask the chef to cook it for them.
**tho the closest thing I can make that possible in game is using the fish anywhere object and grill it there q u q I can't really ask an NPC to cook a fish from my inventory...right???
There's a fish stall, a produce stall, a bakery, a juice bar, and a shop that sells tropical plants. Above all that is the main restaurant. I wonder if this is alright?

I'm not final on the name yet: Lighthouse Market, Portview Market, The Wiggling Tuna, erm ermm. And there are some things I might change.

5th Feb 2018, 7:05 PM
*groan* It looks great, Kanzen... :wtf: your gonna beat me again, I just know it! :giggler:

Ah, well...

I was loading up my game - and it BSODded on me. NOW what!!?!
I hate computers... *sigh* OK, cross your fingers, I'll try it again.

BTW - Kanzen - that looks really nice. As do the other early entries :luff: Great jobs all y'all!

5th Feb 2018, 8:56 PM
Basically same thing as sky domes. I will encourage judges to pretend those things aren't present.

This judge promises to do her best, but my heart still thinks maxis water is the prettiest

UPDATE... After talking to a few people that said if they did want to do CC free, it would be a bit low, I am upping it to 80,000

Hooray :lovestruc I expect we'll see a lot of cc-using lots, which makes sense given maxis choices are limited, but I can't wait to see what kind of creative stuff all you non cc builders create and the extra 20k should be helpful for the atmosphere :)

I think we're a fairly well rounded judging panel. Jo loves CC and all things shiny, I like cc free and maxis-esque, so at the very least us two should balance each other out a bit. Not familiar enough with Red Sonja to know what she likes in lots, but hopefully something that will make us even more well rounded :)

Entries: can you all make sure your pictures blow up nice and large since at least one judge is as blind as a bat...

Good suggestion. Would be great if everyone adds their pictures as attachments, makes it a lot easier for us to look at them. You can right click and select "view picture" to make it larger, but have to go back for each picture which is a bit of a hassle :) And quality suffers from that treatment, and I'm sure you all want your pictures to be as pretty as can be.

5th Feb 2018, 9:31 PM
I enjoy keeping a happy medium when I do CC-lots. My Naftali lot had a slightly longer list than I'd like, and the last contest entry for Community Spirit (whistles) ... let's just say it could never be an upload unless you like long laundry lists of CC (and I really TRIED to control myself!) but generally, I have two mini-challenges when I upload lots that allow for CC, and I like to do this in contests:

1. Variation 1 ... no more than 6 CC items, including recolors and specific mods to make the lot work properly or
2. Variation 2 ... no more than 12. Often, I'll try for 1 and wind up with 2! Way too often!

I am really hitting a dry spell trying to think of an Asian restaurant that leans heavily toward Asian, doesn't look like the ones in the game or CC ones, and doesn't get TOO tropey. The problem is that you can't be all that specific with menu items in a Maxis restaurant (one thing that bugs me ... unless it's an owned restaurant, I believe, though I haven't played one in years), so that leaves the food stand. I intend to use any of my entries in my game ... so they need full playability ... as is, or with a wee item switch or two. (Another challenge!) Good thing I'm a playalong ... I imagine I'd come in last place this time! Personal time constraints are still another challenge, because it appears that not only am I scheduled for surgery, but my mother as well! But I don't mind a good challenge or two or three!

I do have an idea based on something my daughter and I used to visit, but it may tweak the rules. However, being a play-along ... :) I've been researching alternatives. I found a house plan for inspiration. It's going to look like I don't know how to roof ... again. Really, I DO make many buildings that don't have flat roofs! I have a building in the queue that has a genuine non-flat roof ... really! Nope. No go.

My challenge for this lot will be no more than 12 items CC. Maybe I'll allow for recolors without counting them in the 12. :) I admit to not being that angelic recently.

5th Feb 2018, 9:33 PM
Is this contest full? I'd like to be a Wanderlust contestant or a playalong. Do playalong also show their lots?

5th Feb 2018, 9:41 PM
Porky ((hugs)) Come join the play along.

Gummi, Idoes love CC :D except when I build for upload, most of my lots are CC free.

5th Feb 2018, 10:27 PM
I'm really feeling these Bali pictures google is bringing up. Now I want to go to Bali. But I can't, so I'll have to live through my sims by making something for them.

5th Feb 2018, 10:31 PM
Ok, I'll playalong so I don't use a contestant slot. :)

5th Feb 2018, 10:39 PM
......... I'm not final on the name yet: Lighthouse Market, Portview Market, The Wiggling Tuna, erm ermm. And there are some things I might change.

You can call it, "What takes the bait?"....."Get Hooked." ...... "The worm's fear." .... "Cretaceous Swimmers." ... "The Fish Trap" .... "The Crab Cage" ... "Fresh Net"...

Why is it that the thing I have the most inspiration for to build and most interest in making at the moment is ALWAYS THE LAST ROUND!?!

So, by 'food lot', does that include grocery stores, or does it have to be a restaurant where your sim can eat?

6th Feb 2018, 3:20 AM
I understand always best for last!

It can be anything FOOD plus THEME related. Combine as you like :)

Dine on the Pond (Tropical/Restaurant)

Dine on the Pond

Jonny Palm is branching out in the restaurant business with a new restaurant: Dine on the Pond. Where others saw a beautiful pond and garden, Jonny saw the opportunity to give tourists to Sim Tropez a unique dining experience. Jonny contacted the best contractor he knew (well, the only contractor he knew) in order to build his restaurant over the pond. He brought in the island's best landscaper. He called in the best chef straight from Bali. No expense was spared in allowing customers to "dine on the pond." The bar is fully stocked and guests can listen to music while they eat and drink. After dinner, guests can walk out onto the overlook to enjoy the beauty of the garden, or have a nice dance with their loved one as the sun sets over Sim Tropez. Jonny (and his builder) sincerely hopes that his customers, and the Wanderlust committee, appreciate the beauty of Dine on the Pond.

So, after a lot of searching and going back and forth with theme and what sort of food lot to build, I stumbled onto this photo (https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/09/b3/86/1b/photo2jpg.jpg) on google image search. There were other inspiration photos, but no matter what I looked at the open-to-the-outside eating areas and the ceiling beams kept turning up. Open dining was always a priority. So, I started with that, and worked from there.

*A note about my photos - certain overhead photos have palms missing. These were taken out for photos. They were replaced.

As for what CC was used in creating this lot (kept this list short just so it would be short when I wrote it):

spectacular work @kerri191, it looks totally different from your first attempt. I suggest you play-test a clone so you can spot problems and fix them early.

meanwhile, I'm testing my lot for any routing problems or general glitchiness. While it's a good idea to provide doors for your employees, (I intend to use this lot as a business in the future) it's kinda annoying when played as a regular community lot.
I should probably delete those doors.

6th Feb 2018, 8:33 AM
This lot is quick and dirty (and cheap) as I will be going away on holiday shortly. This restaurant doesn't pretend to be fancy and plants don't grow well, hence the cheapness.

@kanzen That is a very good tip. The lot went toward my redo of Twikkii Island. I don't think I'll be trying to upload this. At least, not anytime soon.

All of my lots are built in blank mirror hoods and placed in their proper spots in hoods that I use for play. So, it has been play-tested. Especially the routing as I didn't want a fishable pond. And I've used never columns in the interior of a structure. Turned out better than I thought it would honestly.

Cheslin Gieke wished to open a restaurant that was a bit different. His wife, Emily, suggested minimalism, minimal but grand! The Green Bamboo with its Zen interior is a great place for a business lunch, a family dinner or a first date. The emphasis is on dining, although a wall speaker allows for some dancing. You can sit at a table or at the bar and enjoy the nature inside or just admire the pretty lights while catching up with old and making new friends.

Welcome to The Green Bamboo!

Wow... great stuff there guys :luff:

I am amazed at how fast ya'll are! I'm still futzing with the foundation - trying to get decks and stairs to flow together with the slope of the land I chose. Why can't I build from the ground DOWN to a deck level *grrrrr* [email protected]#Maxis :(

Can anyone explain to me how HL's Simple Passage Stairs (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=3165556#post3165556) work? (If you're going to DL it and try it out, get the one from post #6) And, if ya'll don't know/don't wanna discuss it here (It IS a contest thread after all) then I'll go post elsewhere (maybe) - I'm just curious if it might solve my above problem if I knew how to use it. In my game, it just looks like regular stairs :wtf: 'course I'm not in 'live' mode, maybe it changes?

:turtle: Lemme see if my game will load today...

Those are designed for inverted levels using grid adjuster. I think regular modular stairs would work for what you want, but a picture would help us help you. :p

Ooooh! Thank you - especially for the pet-enabled ones! I think I've worked my way around them for now on this build - but, I really want to learn how to use them. I'll keep fiddling. Like I said, I have yet to go "live" with them - that will probably clear up all my confusion ;)

Well, I finished up my place - got it all decked out - tree'd the bejeebers out of it; then remembered to check the price. $112k. Oops! Those Douglas Firs are darned expensive! ...so are the planter boxes. *sigh* I'll go back in and weed it out later.

Now I'm gonna go visit Petro (make sure she's got the place nicely restocked and all) :Pint:

I have a pretty good idea what is going into my Asian-inspired restaurant. That's the good news. I have a good idea what I want on the main floor, and what I'd want on a second floor, if I add one. I have a rough layout pictured in my mind.

I have NO idea what exterior to use .... that's the bad news. I have some real-life restaurant interiors to work with, but these restaurants are mostly in strip malls, and really, I'd like to do something that shows I actually know how to do a roof! My three uploads here all have flat roofs. I know how to roof a little ... really!. And I am still trying to keep CC below 12 items, though at the rate I'm going, it might be 12 MESHES or basic items. It's just way, way too easy to accrue a long list!

Truly, I am drawing a blank here. And with my surgery scheduled for the 14th (it's now official) and the need to prepare for that (For instance, I'll need to shop for clothes I can wear after surgery ... loose and button-fronted), and my mother going into surgery on Friday, I'm kind of scatterbrained right now! :)

Again, good thing I'm a playalong. I can see my scores now ....

Don't make yourself crazy on the exterior walls! Remember simple is good. There's nothing wrong with a plain solid-color exterior, in any culture.

6th Feb 2018, 11:35 PM
I would go with simple and plain. Plants can be used for eye pop outside and you have more options inside.

You guys are so fast, entries already! Looks good. I can see you won't be making it easy on us. :D

6th Feb 2018, 11:43 PM
@CatherineTCJD I can feel that you're going to make another super fun lot! I'm excited to see it xD
I still remember your church build and to be honest it looks really fun to explore and run around in with so many passages and different levels.
You have your own strengths than I can never have so belieeeeeveeee <3

Actually, I found three plans in mind. Both are far from traditional Asian houses (not all Asian houses are traditional!), and all three intrigue me.

One is making me wonder if I could do such a design at all, and you people are probably going to question my design taste and/or taste in general. Remember ... this is the person who likes shipping container dorms. :) This one has flat roofs, but would require a little skill to pull it off. Just a little. Detail-wise. I'm not a Red Sonja or kanzen-level! :) :) :) (And no ... I don't have to worry about buttering up a judge.) Just ... colors! Pretty! IF it's even possible to do a variation in the game. That remains to be seen. Either I'm thoroughly not up to the job, or it really can't be done. I'd give the ratio a 30/70. It requires a sunken foundation (1-click), and not one, not two, not three, but four or more fake roofs on top of each other. Sinking it was easy-peasy. The first fake roof is easy, and I have the tiles on top of the wall lined up precisely for the second roof before I turn on the cheat ... I've been tabbing and squinting away to make sure! But the game keeps wanting to mess up the first fake roof, no matter what I try. And I KNOW the wall and tiles are lined up right for that second fake roof. While I did manage to get a second fake roof once, it wound up being too high and elevating the fake floor below a couple of tiles. Not the desired result!

So it's onto one of the next two:

The other is a KISS design. Use Tiggy windows and I could pull some of the elements off. I couldn't do it exactly, but it could work, and I have floor plans.

One is basic. I can fall back on it in a pinch. But surprisingly ... it's another flat-roof Well ... kind of. I have the floor plans to that, so it wouldn't be hard.

Or I find something else. I was really elated about that first building, though. Bummer.

I'm doing research now to help me out. I almost always research buildings before building them. I envy those of you who can freehand it!

7th Feb 2018, 1:24 AM
I started on a structure based on a picture on Google Images I liked, but I can't get the roof right!! I hate roofing in TS2.

7th Feb 2018, 2:58 AM
I started on a structure based on a picture on Google Images I liked, but I can't get the roof right!! I hate roofing in TS2.

Grumbling as well. Darn, that building would have been interesting if I could have managed the roofing and fake floors!

I know my brain is scrambled, though, when I Googled for Asian house PLANTS instead of plans. Not exactly the desired result! But they're really nice-looking plants.

I keep telling myself if I get what I consider the hardest build out of the way first, I can have fun with the others! :)

Lighthouse Market
Produce Market & Restaurant | Tropical
Dear Katrina,
Hope this postcard reaches you before you finally decide to visit. Markets aren't the usual subjects for postcards but I'm particularly fond of this one. You can go to the pier and the lighthouse from it. Isn't that cool? And since it's connected, there's always fresh fish and traded produce in the stalls. It's always good to eat fresh, I'd say! There's a good fishing spot too, but my arm isn't the casting type. (Yours is, so get over here!) Anyways, my employer was so pleased that we finished construction early that we all got a bonus. I would visit you but it will will take time to develop the island and well...I really need this job.

So come visit me, okay? You can bring your boyfriend! I miss you that much!

The best sister in the world,
P.S. The signal's no good here so snail mail me back, ok?

At least they fit into the style I'm looking for and may give me an idea! My restaurant won't be upscale, but I certainly don't want a strip mall box! Most of the places I'm Googling are either hoity-toity (for a Maxis food stand? :) ) or streetside cheapie places (much more suitable, but I'd rather put a least a LITTLE bit of building style in it!), or those strip malls.

Thank you! Perhaps some inspiration will come!

Grrr..... Tried to run Sims 2 last night and it decided not to read the cd... AGAIN... It's a securom issue because the CD is seen fine on any computer that doesn't have sims2 installed. The cd/dvd on my computer is a burner cd and it's not worked for Sims 2 since I installed Sims 2. It works for any other cd. Very annnoying. Their 'securom copy protection' is preventing me from playing the game. I used to have it on a non burning, portable cd player but my hubby 'borrowed' it kind of permanently and now does not remember that he took it or where he put it.

So, I took my software to work today and made an ISO virtual image of the Mansions and Gardens game disc and will see if I can get my computer to look at that instead of the cd when it loads. If not, I'll have to quit before I start. :/

My M&G disc gave up the ghost recently too...think in my case it was just because it's old and very well loved. Ended up making the big switch onto Ultimate Collection.

In terms of my entry, I gave up on the one I was building and ended up starting again. Yay!

I should probably delete those doors.

The thing that saved my sanity was Pescado's employee controller thingie. It looks like a burglar alarm. Let me try finding it ... it's in a good chunk of my community lots that have restaurants, and I can at least pull out the name ....

Time to play the lottery. No one was actually on the gaming computer right now! It's called Fishman Weapons Systems ... "Authorized Personnel Only":

While I might have had an unauthorized Sim sneak in there until I activate the alarm, there are far, far fewer Sims sneaking in there! And it can be hidden nicely behind a cabinet or closet with move_objects.

To be honest, I haven't used it for anything else OTHER than to keep Sims out of a kitchen, so I can't vouch for all features. I was getting pretty darn annoyed when I had Sims strip naked and give themselves a bath in a hotel's kitchen's sink, even though there were perfectly usable bathrooms for them throughout the hotel. I am no expert, but that hardly sounds sanitary! :)

As for my lot ... I thought I was moving along nicely. Not quite.

I want this lot to be able to connect to other lots, with no spaces. Since so, so many noodle stands/informal Asian establishments seem to be simple storefronts, I wanted to incorporate that and put it in a strip-mall setting. I realize that it was pretty darn silly of me to fight it .... rarely do I NOT see this, either here or abroad. This is not a high-end place.

I've done strip malls before. This is going on an end so I can incorporate SOME sort of fancy flower and plant stuff and doodads and pretty things up somewhat, since a plain strip mall store in a contest seems pretty ... well ... understated.

Some problems with Lot Adjuster because of items so close to the cutoff line. Fixed those. Put in the dummy level to accommodate the top of the food stand; otherwise, it can stick out, even with Michele's stands (which make things much easier). Done. Put in a top facade. Done. I know you have to do all this BEFORE you shrink; otherwise, you won't be able to do the tiles that are right against the edge of the lot.

Now I can't shrink the lot. I think it doesn't like either the dummy roof, the facade, or both. Back to the drawing board to see how I can work this! I will probably have to build a dummy store nearby for a background in pictures, too.

My lot is near its final stage, I'm satisfied with how it looks now. I'll probably post my entry during the weekend. Entries so far have been great, I'm afraid that mine won't be up to par with them! :)

Tropical Cocktails are ready!

I'll take them both! :Pint:

Tropical Cocktails are ready!
Mmmmm! I'll take the orange one (it's mango. right?) LOL!

I was hoping to get mine posted today but...

On our morning walk darling daughter MAY have broken her foot - unless it turns purple, there is no way I'm taking her in (she's a special kiddo and is convinced they will amputate if we have to go to the hospital) The pain is right above the big toe ball-joint on the top/instep side of her foot - so, even if it is a slight fracture, I don't think there's much they can do about it except tell her to stay off it/elevate it/ice it/and ibuprofen the pain away... Which we are doing.

Then later, while picking up a 25 lb bag of kitty litter at the grocer's something gave way in my lower back. *sigh* DD and I are both on ibuprofen now. :wtf:

Anyway - the lot is done, pictures are took, I just need creative mojo to hit me so I can write up the presentation. Petro, I'll have another. Thanks! :luff:

thank you! I definitely do not want naked sims in my restaurant kitchens or behind the counters or anywhere at all!!!

owww CatherineTCJD that sounds horrible, have you tried Salompas healing pads? Its good quick relief for the back at least.

You are all so early with your entries and mine is still in the very early stages!

I had to do mine quickly because I'm away. I hope to spend far more time on the next entry!

8th Feb 2018, 11:16 PM
Forgive me if I'm intruding, but is it still possible to jump in as a play-along? I'm looking to flex my building muscles and diversify some of the buildings in my hood, and these things are so inspiring.

8th Feb 2018, 11:57 PM
Yes I will add you after supper :)

You are all so early with your entries and mine is still in the very early stages!

I've got a lot of assignments due for school in the next few weeks, so I wanted to make sure I definitely got it in before the deadline. At the moment, I have an exam to study for, a lesson plan to prepare about a maths lesson, and a paper to write on children's literature. I'm swamped, and I added this because I am apparently a masochistic monster. *shakes head at self before grabbing a drink from the juice bar and cracking the books*

9th Feb 2018, 2:46 AM
*raises hand* my mom's going to a friend's wedding so I'll be managing our business while she's gone.
gotta curb my "sorry guys something came up I have to go in the middle of the contest" issue. turning it in early should do it ^^ anyways I can always edit the entry until the deadline in case I forgot or wanted something.

9th Feb 2018, 10:51 PM
Ok here is mine..and don't be to kind I want the honest truth lol..This is a playalong..

I messed up on the picture size so now having to redo them..

It's a Japanese Restaurant..in the hills of "Takemizu Village" 2 story..first floor has 2 seating for tea..2 bathrooms and a seating area to watch the fish/seahorses in a large aquarium..second story is a restaurant..one large table and 4 seats at a bar, also has open concept kitchen and an Impresso Express-o-Matic Bar..I tried to get more tables but the tables I used wasn't working..so with the money I had left to spend had to put just one large table.. since I have way to many pictures 27 to be exact lol..I am going to use the ones with my sim in it..

Upload your pics, get the url of each one and attach them using the img tag. All but the first pic should be between the spoiler tags [ spoiler ] .... [ /spoiler ] (without spaces in between the square brackets).

Several years ago my alter-sim-ego, Cat, thought maybe she should try camping. So she went to Three Lakes and dutifully set up her tent ...in the heat of Summer, with all the mosquitoes, high humidity, heat, buzzy bugs, no air-conditioning, swarms of other campers ...and nothing to do but sweat. Well, long story short - she built a dock/diving platform for the campground's inaccessible lake - and ended up really loving the area! In fact, she loves it so much, she spends most every free weekend up there, and has talked several of her friends into buying places in the area.

When she saw the Wanderlust Contest advert in Sim-Builders Quarterly, she knew exactly what she must do. She called her long time pal David, a closet gourmet, and told him of "Trails End" - a derelict 70's dive that stands, oddly enough, at the trailhead of the Simpelation Trail (in Three Lakes.) They pooled their resources and bought it immediately. The Grand Opening is this weekend - Come join us!

After they cleared away most of the detritus, the first thing they did was add on the back decks. David claims he wants people to come for the view - and stay for the food  Cat keeps telling him he's the best chef she's ever met; maybe after opening night, David will gain some confidence! Anywho... as they were finishing up the lower deck the Fire Marshall dropped by. I'll spare you the details, but suffice it to say - the interview did NOT go well. Apparently said Marshall closed the last business here because the then owner refused to put in adequate bathroom facilities. (Something about there being lots of trees in the woods)
Well, while Cat was searching for an appropriate place to add such facilities, she found a hidden panel under the staircase that lead to a basement area - perfect for a few bathrooms. And, what do you think they discovered down there? Nine cases of Ol' Jimmie's Rot Gut Cider - at least that is what's scribbled on the side of the crates. The bottles are unmarked, the liquid is a clear amber color, and they're sealed with heavy wax. The first bottle will be opened at the Grand Opening - $100 a shot - come celebrate with us!

Well that spoiler didn't work..it showed everything including the Img at each end..

[sp oiler] Type your words here [/sp oiler]
Cut-n-paste that ^^^
Take out the space in "spoiler", and add your words in the middle.

If you click the "Go advanced" button below, then scroll to the bottom, you'll see there's a place to upload your images - then you don't have to use Imgur - and your images will be available as long as this site lasts (for ever, hopefully!)
Once you've uploaded your images, open each image in a new window (right click the thumbnails) and get the image url from your browser. Copy that (Ctrl - C)
Click the little "insert image" icon at the top of your post editor and paste the image url into the pop-up box. (Ctrl - V)

It's confusing at first, but you'll soon get the hang of it :luff:

*yavannatw..it's cute, and dirty..I love it.. lol.. and being out in the desert well that is how a lot of small tiny places are..lol great job..

Beautiful job everyone..so different and unique :lovestruc

Thanks for your comment, broomhilda. I'm not sure it's a destination any Sim would really want to go to, but if you're in the middle of a desert, some food, drink, entertainment and toilet stop is very welcome.

Agreed. Looking forward to seeing more amazing and different entries.

10th Feb 2018, 4:44 AM
yavannatw..your destination can be a pit stop to the real thing

10th Feb 2018, 7:16 AM
@broomhilda61 thank you, glad you like it ^^ it would smell of grilled fish most of the time though. Good job on your play along too! I'm definitely intrigued with the aquarium in the lobby. Hope to see more of your builds in the future =)

@CatherineTCJD you pulled that off with an aching back? What kind of monster would you be when you're feeling fine =))))

10th Feb 2018, 9:43 AM
Some blue drinks today (very helpful for back pain, I hear, Cat - I hope you feel better soon :)) - for all of the hardworking contestants and play-alongs.

10th Feb 2018, 4:09 PM
Those blue drinks did the trick, Petro! The back is not but a dull roar today - nothing a bit of ibuprofen can't handle. DD's foot is better today too, though she's still hobbling around and demanding aid: Can you go upstairs and get me a soda? No. Can you bring me the wii-mote? No. Can you go get my blanket? *sigh*

Now I gotta finish up my pet-themed hotel...

:deal: Garswn Dining
Psst! You... yes, you! Come here! Let me tell ya a lil' secret. There's a new restaurant in town that is opening this week. And guess what? First 50 meals are on the house! You gonna miss this opportunity? The early bird catches the worm, so be sure to check out Garswn Dining this Friday night, ya know what I'm sayin'? If anyone asks, I didn't tell ya nothin', ok?
Garswn Dining is a fine restaurant with a tropical vibe. It features an open dining area and bar, with glass roofs to let the equatorial sun shine in during the day and to see the beauty of a nocturnal sky during the night. You will never run out of oxygen, as our facilities are filled with photosynthetic life forms. Just a fancy way of saying plants. And algae. If you want a more romantic dining experience, feel free to reserve a table on our back deck, above the water and below the stars. Unfortunately, all the water on our lot is pool water (the landscaping artist said something about the water "not reflecting right", whatever that means), nevertheless we believe you will love the ambience here.

The lot comes in at 77.234 simoleons, about 3k short of the budget and it is on a 3x2 lot.

- "Garswn Dining" was supposed to be called "Garden Dining". However, while I was typing this post, I made a mistake and typed "Garswn" instead of "Garden". I decided to keep it as it I thought it was a more original name.
- The reason for the landscaping artist's refusal to build a lake is because I'm having problems with Voeille's Pond & Sea Water Overhaul. My sea water is just fine in the neighbourhood view, but, as soon as I enter a lot, both the sea and the pond water are black, without reflections. That is also the reason why I took a front picture at such a low angle - I had black sea water in the background.
- It can't be seen from the floor plan, but there are sinks in the kitchen. :)

This is my entry for the first round of this amazing contest. I hope my lot isn't too bad  . Off to the Fermented Juice Bar now!

10th Feb 2018, 4:30 PM
You have to have a block or two of pool hidden somewhere on the lot for the pond water to work right :)

10th Feb 2018, 4:39 PM
Yes, I know. Even when I do that it doesn't work. *has an idea* Let me test it with boolprop useShaders true

EDIT: Nope. Must be something else. Oh well.

10th Feb 2018, 6:04 PM
Yay! Done with my prototype lot! I need to check for missing wallpapers, but I'm Ok with what I see.

Now to do two things:

1. Build another lot and join it to the restaurant. Since this is a strip mall lot, I need to have a store or two next to it; otherwise, it's going to look really strange. A basic facade and some basic OFB thingies inside should do ... the lot isn't going to be as much in focus, and part will be cut off. There just needs to be something next door!

2. Play the restaurant and see if I get stompies.

I seem to forget how to count with the CC. It's more than 12. But I DID try. Really! I admire anyone who can easily match Maxis wallpapers, tables, chairs and floors in a larger building. That proved to be one my undoings.

I also need to get it out tonight or early in the AM Sunday. Life will be far too busy next week. My mother is also in the hospital, by the way, and our surgeries are one day apart. And did I mention we're in different hospitals, about 10 miles away? :) Egads.

2/10 EDIT ... Make that later in the day on Sunday. But for me, the clock runs out then. Monday and Tuesday will be too frantic.

I made the lot next door ... the background lot. I'm keepin' this one for future use ... what a headache to make because of the dummy wall and the facade on top. For some reason, it wasn't easy to link it to the contest lot. I had to make some major alterations to both lots. But is there a way to make that next-door lot look clearer? It looks pretty blurry right now! I set the fade distance and anything else applicable to the highest settings.

I've done strip malls before (a few times), but I think the facade on top is the thing causing the most problems, so I had to reluctantly switch it out to a flatter one. The roofs blended in perfectly ... it was just the facade. It looked really uneven, even though it was the same facade! Still a slight difference, but a lot less noticeable. I also think the dummy roof is not helping, for some reason, even though they're the same clicks high.

10th Feb 2018, 6:15 PM
Yvelotic..I love, love your restaurant and the intro into it..great job..oh and I really love the pictures..of the first room so close to the furniture..makes it look bigger..great job :)

Thank you kanzen.. :)

My though of doing this contest out of my comfort zone was..well I have been doing contests over at CBS for about a year now and I haven't won any of them  every time I thought I might win a newbie would show up and win  all is good I voted for a lot of those newbie's lol..anyway I figured well I have to learn somewhere and it really didn't look to hard once I got past the panic mode..and I needed to get out of my comfort zone..and the more contests I did the better I will become in the future right..even if I never win a contest it's ok with me having fun and learning is just as important.. :bunny:

Cat..I just about crushed my foot several years ago in a haulage line at work..all I can do was walk around the wheel with that big cable and listen to the crunch, crunch of the steal in my shoes thinking omgosh I lost my whole foot..but I broke a few toes and busted blood vessels on the bottom of my toes..and went back to work the next day..I worked in a Brick Factory..moving the cars around to each press so the bricks that were made can go on them and then sent to the kilns..
I know it's not the same thing..she's a kid hehe..but let her know that and maybe the whining will stop for a bit lol..

10th Feb 2018, 8:16 PM
...but let her know that and maybe the whining will stop for a bit lol..
Oh! THAT made me laugh right out loud! Oh man, now I can't stop smiling - or is it smirking? Oh dear... maybe I took one to many ibuprofen? Anyway - I'll tell her.

Hubs (a long time runner) and I have already regaled her with our gruesomest foot injuries from years past... I think she knows she's not really hurt - it's just that she's never suffered an injury before, so this feeling of pain is completely new. ...And she's a "special" kiddo. And an only child. And a 13-yr-old.

Petro! :Pint: Thanks :luff:

BTW Broomhilda, that must've hurt really REALLY bad! Ouch!

10th Feb 2018, 10:47 PM
Hope everything turns out fine with your daughter!

11th Feb 2018, 2:07 AM
Cat well her being 13 and her first injury it might be ok to whine and cry for the first few days..after that I would make her get up and do things on her own..lol..I have had 3 lower back, 2 neck, and a hip surgery..I do have my days of crying when I am by myself..my 16 year old grandson messed up his knee a couple of weeks ago and will have to have surgery in the next month..his first time injury..I think he is worried that he won't play next year in Basketball or track..he will be a Senior..and it worries me as well..I just don't say anything..

Opps sorry everyone..I'm getting off track..

11th Feb 2018, 8:09 AM
This contest is really becoming powerful. I love all the builds I have seen so far. Seriously am speechless.

11th Feb 2018, 7:45 PM
Table is all caught up I believe! If you have posted and you do NOT see yourself there, at the time of this post, please let me know!

And yes! Good job so far everybody! Can't wait to see more :lovestruc

Play Along Entry: Tumbleweed Diner

Been tearing down the highway under the heat of the desert sun? Did you already drain that gallon of water down your gullet? Are you crossing your legs and curling your toes, searching the canyons for some place to stop and pee? Well boy howdy, do we have a desert oasis for the weary. Located at the most remote bus stop for thirty miles is Tumbleweed Diner which boasts an air conditioned, recently (the 70's is recent enough if you really think about it) renovated space to serve up all the down-home American style grub anybody could ever want.

Tumbleweed was once a roadside garage where all manner of weary travelers would stop for a tune up, and now, under new ownership, Tumbleweed Diner is offering tune ups of the biological kind! Stop in and park it at the bar for a spell, flick on your favorite tunes at the jukebox or pop a quarter (or ten!) into the arcade system to bask in the cool, cool air and melt the stress of cross-country travel away. They say it's not about the destination, but the journey, and Tumbleweed Diner is a home-style respite as you embark upon that journey. Come on in, what can we get ya?

(EDIT: Forgot to add, this thing is CC Free!)

12th Feb 2018, 12:36 AM
bbostic8 I really love this little diner..I have been in places like it growing up and when I was hitch hiking around the country lol..

Beautiful job.. :bunny:

12th Feb 2018, 10:25 AM
I usually like to write a long story, but really, I don't have the time. Sorry!

Golden Pearl Restaurant

Part of a strip mall and located by the Tigress clothing store in my game, The Golden Pearl is based on real-life informal noodle place establishments with a little upscaling. Not TOO upscale, though! Diners can rent the separate room for very small parties. Sushi, sashimi, tea and coffee are included in the cost if a Sim rents the room.

The main part of the restaurant contains the food stand. Ice cream, coffee and green tea are included in the price. Customers can also enjoy Japanese beverages from the vending machine. These are separate from the price.

No stompies in a real game. I made sure of that.

What is cool is that the sushi table actually works like a game's buffet table with Asian dishes. I did not create it, though, so ... http://lilsisterg.tumblr.com/post/159950351815/this-is-simsconnection-sushi-place-buffet-table. Alas, though, the gong is not functional. But it's a gong. I would only hope that my Sims kids wouldn't try to bang on it too much!

I tried not to go overboard with the content, but shot past my favored amount easily. I had a really hard time finding an Asian wallpaper in the dummy ceiling area that would go with the decor and didn't have the pattern cut off. This wallpaper looks very much like an origami paper design, so I went with that one.

No matter what, I couldn't get the adjoining lot to come out clearer. Perhaps it's because I lot-shrunk it; perhaps not. But at least there is something on one side connecting the stores. The restaurant would be the end lot. I had a big, bold railing on top, but lot shrinking also seems to affect those, too. No matter what, even though there were the same clicks on both dummy roofs and I'm using the same railings on both the restaurant and the other lot, the railings on top mismatched. As you might be able to see in the overhead view, the roofs connect perfectly, so the buildings are the same height. The big, bold railing REALLY looked bad and really mismatched between the two buildings, so I had to go for a much lower one, much to my disappointment. The things you learn in these contests ...

12th Feb 2018, 10:34 AM
gazania oh I really love your diner..I would go there.. :bunny:

Great job :)

12th Feb 2018, 10:51 AM
Thank you! And I actually made a Tigress Clothing store as well, just in case more got into the picture than I thought. (Not much did, fortunately!)

Alas, I had time only for the one store. :)

12th Feb 2018, 2:41 PM
Welcome to Fiesta Mexicana, a restaurant out in the desert somewhere. (Yes, I stole the name from a restaurant here in town, though I'm sure there are tons of Mexican restaurants named that. Very original of me, I know)

I don't have a story for you or much to say about it really. I'll just let the pics do most of the talking.

Yes, the back is boring shrugs

There's a room here that I just realized I didn't take an "extra" pic of, beside the kitchen, to clarify what it is, if it's not obvious (which it's probably not), it's a staff room.

Server's Station

If you've ever been in a contest with me, you know I despise bathroom pics. So this is the best you're getting ;)

And that's it.

12th Feb 2018, 3:27 PM
Pretty and wonderful entries, all of you! You are really causing me to want to dine out - in fact, I am phoning a friend right now to hear if we can go and eat out tomorrow. I just love the splashes of colour, justJones, it is gorgeous.

12th Feb 2018, 4:58 PM
Oh MAN! I was all set for some dim-sim; but now I just gotta have me some chile relleno... mmmm

*ring ring* :call: Sure Petro! I'll meet you there - the first pitcher's on me!

Nice job on that façade, Jones :luff:

12th Feb 2018, 6:10 PM
I suddenly want sushi AND quesadillas...it's the middle of the night and no one is open! What a predicament you two put me in gazania and justJones!
I'll just have to settle for whatever's in the kitchen Q U Q hopefully my lone can of pork and beans are still there!

oh and I just dropped by to edit my entry in it's final form u v u
now I'm truly satisfied

12th Feb 2018, 6:57 PM

OnayaW you better get a move on lol

Justpetro..I will go restaurant crawling with you, Cat and kanzen

Beautiful job everyone.. :bunny:

12th Feb 2018, 9:09 PM
I've got a really tough act to follow with all these awesome entries!! Got to get a wriggle on with decorating the inside of mine!!

12th Feb 2018, 9:24 PM
Sparkly that is why I try and not look at other entries..it wants to make you second guess yourself..and I won't even look at mine now..I will second guess what I have done and go and mess it up royally lol..

12th Feb 2018, 10:09 PM
I builded a restuarant out from a faint memory from the time I was in the US but it's so late now that i rather sleep...

13th Feb 2018, 12:56 AM
I think that as long as you second guess yourself, you can still improve. That way of thinking helps me keep going and going until I don't have any doubts. Once that doubts are gone, then I'm done and satisfied. But that's how I function as a person. Maybe you have a different way broomhilda61. But don't be afraid of the other entries, let them be your strength and be inspired =) It's no wonder how the sims 2 community is still thriving today - I think it's all because we co-inspire one another to keep on growing.

13th Feb 2018, 2:05 AM
Lovely job people!

now I am hungry!

Thank you kanzen for your words of encouragement.. :)

I'm not afraid of the other entries I am afraid of my own..and I tend to second guess myself even in real life..and thinking outside the box scares the tar out of me :alarm: ..I'm 56 and until I started playing Sim2 I never thought outside the box..even when I hitched hiked 43 of the lower 48 states, Canada and Alaska I wasn't afraid..and the more I do and learn the better I get from being afraid..it's just going to take me some time to get over that fear..of second guessing myself..

I'm working on it very slowly

I finally have learned somewhat on recoloring..but that is hard as well because I am color blind  my world is grey..except for the colors red, brown, black and white..also when you see me say your entry or your cc is stunning and gorgeous..it's not the colors I see it's the placement of where things are at and the CC that was used..I even second guessed recoloring as well..finally after several people told me not to worry about if others will like it..do what I love and if others love it to they will use it..it took me a long time to get over that fear..I love Rustic/Country/Medieval all wrapped in one lol.. :D

I can't wait to see what the other entries look like..omgosh it's a nail bitter when entries get close to the dead line when they are posted

Being afraid to do new things is human.
Doing new things while being afraid means putting more effort into those things and deliver a better outcome in the end!

My local library’s internet doesn’t wanna drive this site so I can’t upload my pictures
That kinda sucks

I am assuming you are taking them by USB to the library? Will it let you attach them to an email to yourself and you download to your phone from your email then upload to modyourpanties. You can do that one at a time, if it is too much space at once @OnayaW

I tried to submit before but then it went like...

Anyway, I took inspirtation from my tour to USA in 2012 where we came across death valley and that and felt over a restuarant in the middle of nowhere. They served really good burgers and we got ice cream there melted faster than we could eat them, but hey, that's properly common in the summer season... It just feels awkward to only be 6 people in the restuarant. 4 costumers and 2 workers... I also got to count a train. 111. The train took like 5+ min to pass and suddenly I could see how the "Train" (A short movie we had in school) could be true...

My restuarant!
I should have renamed it before the picture but meh. Also I couldn't get the exact backshot so I went with a second solution.
The lot will spawn 5 NPCs from the get go. Also look my ugly testsim... I quite playing since the last update to UC made my game slow as a snail. I thought the turtle speed it drove before drove me insane. Now snail speed. SLOWER. It cut out like 80% of the animations...

I started playing in my late 40s, so I was a late bloomer as well.

I see the contest this way: It's pretty doubtful I will be on the level of some here. I tend to have a plainer, pretty basic approach to lot building. Gardening is a particular weakness. Most of the times in my RL game, I plop a few plants here and there and that's it! This last lot was probably the most plant-plopping I've done in a while, and even that was pretty simple ... barely any move_objects at all (I used it to place some lights).

So this is my approach: since I seriously doubt I'd get the oohs and aahs that the top people get, I personally challenge myself building the lots. In the Community Spirit contest, I rolled a dice to see which family I'd get. I mess around with sunken foundations, historically-based buildings (preferring post-50s houses, but as in the CS contest or my custom vacation hood, I'll go earlier sometimes!), modular or container building, connected buildings, some basic CFE tricks, buildings for specific needs, etc. etc. This personal challenge for me this round was to make an Asian-based strip mall restaurant (which doesn't go against the BV theme since often, when vacationing, we'll go into a town for a quick bite to eat). Oh ... and incorporate CFE doing it, which I haven't done before this entry. I use house plans and Google images to inspire me and to assure me that any building layout would be structurally sound and/or have some sort of authenticity.

The tropical lot will be another challenge. Depending on the budget, I already have one in mind. And if my health is up to it after surgery, maybe another hotel will be in the future with an entry (I've done at least five hotels so far, NOT including the Infamous Box Motel!*). Hotels can be particularly challenging because one mistake and you can get a frozen housekeeper (in my case, often, and generally not on the first day ... generally, it's the second or third) or no hotel guests.

Doing personal challenges provides me with a little fun, and I get better at stuff, even if I don't officially win or even place in the Top 3. I'm looking forward to the next lot and seeing what I'll attempt or improve on next. (Now that I think of it, maybe one challenge should be to do more extensive and artistic plant-plopping!)

*I was having so much trouble with Freezy the Housekeeper that I built a bunch of box hotel rooms to see where I went wrong, or if a mod was causing trouble. (Under spoiler at http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=5196167#post5196167 if you're curious. I believe that has been probably the ugliest build on MTS to date, but in all fairness, it was a quick test lot. Oh, and to add that special touch, Freezy didn't freeze at all!)

I laughed so much when that Box Motel was built that it will forever have a special place in my heart :)

Oh you are getting that stupid pukebucket picture of your box Motel..gazania

At CBS we have challenges as well..no voting just doing what needs to be done and sometimes I tend to do a bit more lol..

Our next B.A.D. is hard..but I found a lot of things for it right here on MTS..

So irritating! Photo*ucket is a pain in the butt.

Fortunately for me, it's not entirely gone. MystAngel copied it in her Community Spirit post a couple down from me, complete with her noting that I didn't even extend the roof properly on one box! Such fussy tourists. How DARE they want a roof completely over the box?!

Thank you, MystAngel, wherever you are. You have helped keep the Box Motel alive. :)

That's funny gazania..

I love your box Motel..omgosh how cute are those.. :bunny:

I know about the Sims wanting a complete roof..complain because the rain or snow is coming in..or it gets to hot for them lol.. :wtf:

I'm going to need an extension...somehow managed to break my game installation ;_;

So it's gonna take a while to get it back up and running.

VERY HOT. Very dying. Properly why we entered the restuarant (Actually it was my grandma there needed to visit their restroom but then we decided to eat.

I built the restuarant out from my memories and I remember it had this old-ish look. It was clean though and feet didn't stick to the floor so all in all good. I did wonder why the place had a playground but I guess when placed in the middle of nowhere you also exist as like a stop?
